As the largest city in Asturias, Gijón offers a refreshing blend of maritime heritage, modern culture, and a distinctively authentic Spanish atmosphere. Unlike the tourist-saturated coasts of the south, this Cantabrian port city pulses with the energy of locals who know how to enjoy life after dark. From the salty air of the old fishing quarter to the trendy corners of revitalized industrial spaces, the city transforms when the sun goes down.
Understanding Gijón’s nightlife requires understanding the local concept of "marcha." It is not about rushing from one VIP booth to another; it is about long, laughter-filled dinners that spill into casual cider houses, followed by a slow migration toward music and dancing. The night often starts late, peaks well past midnight, and ends with the legendary breakfast of chocolate con churros as the sun rises over San Lorenzo beach.
The geography of the night is divided between two distinct souls. To the west, Cimavilla, the old fishermen’s quarter, offers a bohemian and gritty charm with narrow cobblestone streets and hidden plazas. To the east, the area around the marina and Fomento presents a sleeker, more modern aesthetic with stylish cocktail bars and breezy terraces overlooking the yachts.
Navigating this scene can be overwhelming for a first-time visitor. You might find yourself trapped in a tourist trap on the main promenade when the real magic is happening down a side street in a former warehouse. This guide is designed to save you from those pitfalls, offering a curated path through the city’s most electrifying venues.
The beauty of Gijón is its walkability. You rarely need a taxi to experience the best of the night, as the transition from dinner to dancing is a pleasant stroll along the seafront. You will notice that the dress code is generally relaxed but stylish; locals favor a polished casual look that fits the city’s understated confidence.
Whether you are looking for a quiet glass of Asturian cider, a thumping dance floor, or a live jazz session, Gijón has a corner waiting for you. To help you plan your perfect evening, we have compiled the definitive list of venues that define the city’s nocturnal character.

We started with Dinner and continued in the nightclub. The Dinner was very good and sitting in this hidden garden was Great!
Food and Wine was Great, good service and if you want a place where you can continue the Night after Dinner without having to go to another place, this place is Perfect with great bar and cocktails in the garden and dancing inside.

Excellent lunch served in La Buena Vida from 13h00. Three tasty courses plus a drink for €10.50. The dishes are of exceptional quality and the service is superb. Highly recommended for lunch.

I think this is the site with probably the worst service in town, 3 times going for 3 sad and awful experiences... expensive for the experience, somehow dirty, many opportunities to improve. A lovely place with an empty heart.
Jessica Brown★★★★☆
I recommend their hamburgers. I went with family twice and we loved the menu. We also tried out their fajitas and sandwiches, but by far the chicken hamburger was our favourite. This restaurant boasts a lovely beachfront location, outdoor seating, and a cheap menu. Staff are very friendly too.

We were met by a fun polite & kind editor, Marco, for our lunch this week. He agreed to assist us in our practice of Spanish (we’re English) but speaking in English while we responded in Spanish- fantastic! The setting was clean & relaxed. The food was delicious. I had a huge & tasty Sandwich Vegetal. My partner had a local meat delicacy.
Great service. Fun atmosphere. Superb overall. We’ll be back. Thank you Marco xx

A popular spot for a lively atmosphere in Gijón's nightlife. The music is excellent, with well-executed changes, and DJ Adrián keeps us entertained with the latest hits. Vanessa and Ro behind the bar greet us with their warmest smiles and are incredibly attentive. The prices are very reasonable, and the atmosphere is lovely. The clientele is mixed, both men and women. Thank you for your hard work.

The best bar in Gijón, with very attentive staff who are always happy to recommend drinks. They also have great music, with a wide variety of styles to suit all tastes.
Thanks to Adri and Ro for this wonderful place where many of us feel right at home. And of course, thanks to Vane and Marco for their hospitality and kindness.

A waitress rudely threw my change at me, as if I were a beggar, and 4 euros fell right into the drink. They also refused to accept my 2-for-1 drink voucher because they didn't feel like it. A dive.
Karla Menasalvas Moriyón★☆☆☆☆
The website says they close at 6:30, but at 3:00 they turn on the lights and turn off the music. They serve us four rum and cokes at 2:55 without warning us they're closing. A disgrace.

Very friendly waiters with the terrace overlooking the marina.

The drinks are very expensive, but that's typical around here. If you want to hear the same music, there are better places nearby.

Really dope bar with a great vibe. The music was really good all night and made it a fun place to hang out. They have a nice selection of drinks, and I liked that there is no entrance fee. You just pay for your drinks.
It did feel a bit too packed at times. A lot of bars in the area have a similar layout, so it gets crowded fast. If you are okay with that, it is still a great spot for good music and a lively crowd.
A solid place for a night out!

Nice night club with dj and average price for the drinks. Two bars and extra floor for dancing when the club is full. Bar tender could be more friendly.
Pablo Wakonigg★☆☆☆☆
I asked for an extra glass of water and the blonde barmaid refused to serve me saying that I had drunk "too much". I told her that I was still a but drunk and needed to drive back home, so I just wanted the water to sober up, and she still refused, saying that I should have thought about it before. It seems as though she wanted me to drive drunk, because serving a glass of tap water is not that much effort...

A perfect place to start the evening with a great terrace. Amanda, the waitress who served us, was very friendly and hardworking despite having the whole terrace to herself. If you're on vacation and going to a busy place, you'll need to be patient. Highly recommended.

We stayed 2 days in Gijón and came here two times 😆 cocktails are GREAT, there is a nice view of the beach and it’s perfect for people / dog watching, waiters were nice too, great atmosphere and good music 🤍 I wish I could bring you guys in my luggage!

I’m very disappointed by a couple of things. We were sitting outside, and I really don’t understand how it’s possible that in a cocktail bar there are people smoking and noisy families. So we asked if we could move inside. There was a cigarette vending machine, like something from the 1980s, but okay.
Once we were seated at a poorly cleaned table, we noticed that although the style looked vintage and elegant, in reality the place was dirty in every corner and at every table. It’s a real shame, because it could have been a very nice place.
But I have to ask myself, how is it possible to be so far behind in 2026? Sometimes you need to travel and experience other places to understand how things should be done.
drinks were ok but sweet campari??? wth must be bitter, infusiones??? come on...
Chef Menajem Peretz★★★★★
While randomly walking around town and looking for a place to sit, I never imagined getting into a place like this, outside a heritage building and from the inside something that only can be seen to understand. Each drink/cocktail is crafted to perfection. A place not to be missed

Possibly the best bar of Spain.
A fine tender bar crew, on a wonderful place beyond the sea.
An overwhelming overlook of the San Lorenzo's bay in the middle of Gijón.
I truly recommend all the cocktails. Awesome Indeed!!
Jolliver★☆☆☆☆
We waited 30min to order and 20 min for the drinks. My whisky (ballantines 17) smelled ok but tasted like water, they offered me to have another drink for free or my money back but before I made a decision they gave me the money and we left... Also I had diarrhea the next day, not sure if the drink could be the reason though.

Horrible experience. Disgusting, uneducated, uncultured security guard🤮....he was extremely disrespectful to the guests of this establishment...I have no words...what does he think of himself?? he is just an ordinary door guard...his place is only in the zoo!!! This should not interact with normal people. The management of the bar should fix this! We will never visit this place again and do not recommend it to anyone!!

We've owed it since Thursday!!!
I'm speaking on behalf of the five of us who were in Asturias this long weekend.
We already said it was incredible on Thursday.
We wanted to confirm it on Friday, but even so, we went back on Saturday to see if it was real... It's one of those rare places, not just in Asturias, but in all of Spain! The music, but good music, from the 80s, 90s, and 2000s... And the service? We don't want to flatter them because we might not come back (we're not from Asturias).
But it was amazing. The waitress was young (for the style of the bar), attentive at all times. We think she's related to the owners because, honestly... she didn't lose her smile a single day despite everything she had to put up with? Our sincere congratulations. The service was flawless; just one person in a packed bar, and we weren't thirsty for a second... And her memory? Better than ours! Price??... normal or even cheap (we came from near Madrid...).
Impeccable music.
Seriously. Congratulations to that girl who made us feel at home, who created such a good vibe that we wanted to be there with her, dancing and singing even though she was working.
We're leaving this review from 1 user on behalf of the 5 annoying guys from Madrid!!! (She'll read it and recognize us) No pretensions, no expectations, just to highlight the great music and the excellent service at the venue. That's hard to find in nightlife establishments, and this one has it all (it just needs more space).
We'll be back! We don't know your name, but thanks again to the waitress for everything this weekend.

For once we've come to Gijón, we've been lucky enough to come to the bar with the best personal service you can imagine. There may be better ones, maybe, but I don't think the people are as friendly and genuine.

Slow and bad service. We went for a morning snack and we won't be back. They give you some crisps as a tapa and it takes forever... You can see the amount of wine they serve in the photo... We won't be back.

A great place, small but with a fantastic atmosphere and great 80s music (at least last Saturday). Friends from Gijón tell me they also play Britpop and alternative. In short, highly recommended.

Amazing place to enjoy live music and beautiful food. The staff is lovely. You could enjoy live music from Thursday to Sunday. Its my favourite place to enjoy the music and proper American and Mexican food and the prices are normal as other restaurants with loads options to choose.
I love it

Super cool vibes and bartender on a Thursday night. Seems like an American blues bar but you’ll find no Americans here, at least when I was there. The decor would make many American bars jealous lol.
Lucia d'Aubarede★★★★☆
This was a 8/10. This place is perfect for some night drinks while live music is playing, and the decor really takes you back to the 50s. The food was good. I had the Savoy hot dog which was surprisingly good. We also had the Savoy burger and the "el paso" burger which wasn't very popular. Desserts were pretty average, the best one was the Nutella one although it was very scarce for 5€. The price for the burgers and hot dogs was good.

I normally don’t like writing reviews and it was my third time coming here. The service has never been friendly but yesterday the girl working had even more attitude and threw the check at us. Then we ordered margaritas and as you can see on the picture had a bug and spectacles on it. I don’t even think they cleaned the glass. I will say even with all that, the view is gorgeous from there.

I love this place for spending a pleasant time with friends, a partner, or groups. The music is at a level that allows you to talk and listen at the same time. You can find people of all ages because the music is very varied, from the 60s to today, including Spanish music (Hombres G, Ilegales, Luz and Tino Casal, MClan, Alaska...) and international music (Elton John, George Michael, Boy George, Miley Cyrus, Kylie Minogue, Hercules and Love...). The best part is that until 1 p.m. you can enjoy some fantastic cocktails made by the owner with great care for his customers. It has a unique decor; if you're ever in Gijón, stop by and you'll have a great time!
Tips for Enjoying Gijón’s Nightlife
To truly enjoy Gijón after dark, you need to understand the local rhythm and etiquette. The city operates on a schedule that may seem extreme to outsiders, and knowing the rules of engagement will make the difference between a good night and a spectacular one. Here is how to blend in and maximize your experience.
First, adjust your schedule and eat late. Dinner rarely starts before 9:30 PM, and the bars do not get busy until midnight. If you arrive at a club before 1:00 AM, you will likely find it empty. Take a siesta in the afternoon if you must, but do not try to start the party too early, or you will burn out before the headliners arrive.
Second, learn to pour cider like a local. Sidra is the lifeblood of Asturias, and drinking it is a ritual. The pour, known as "escanciar," involves holding the bottle high above your head and the glass low by your knee. Do not be afraid to spill; it aerates the cider. Drink the small amount poured immediately in one gulp, leaving a little in the glass to discard.
Third, embrace the "cortejo" or bar crawl. Gijón is a city of movement. Locals rarely stay in one place all night. It is common to have a drink in Cimavilla, walk down to the marina for a cocktail, and then end up dancing in Fomento. Wear comfortable shoes, as the cobblestones of the old town can be brutal on high heels.
Fourth, keep an eye on your belongings. While Gijón is generally a very safe city, the narrow, crowded streets of Cimavilla during peak hours are prime territory for pickpockets. Keep your phone and wallet in a front pocket or a zipped bag, especially when navigating dense crowds near the popular taverns.
Finally, know the closing time culture. Bars generally close around 3:00 AM, but the party does not stop. The "after-hours" scene or specific late-night clubs keep going until 6:00 or 7:00 AM. If you make it to sunrise, follow the locals to a churrería for a hot chocolate and fried dough before heading home to sleep.
The key to Gijón is spontaneity. While this list provides a roadmap, do not be afraid to wander down a side street because you heard laughter or music. The city rewards the curious, and some of the best nights start with a wrong turn.
As the Atlantic breeze cools the streets and the sound of waves mixes with distant bass lines, you will understand why Gijón holds such a special place in the hearts of northern Spain. It is a city that knows how to work hard, but more importantly, it knows how to live well.
