12 Best Italian Restaurants in Tours

Tours may sit in the heart of the Loire Valley, but its culinary soul stretches far beyond the region’s famous châteaux and vineyards. While the city is renowned for its rillettes, goat cheeses, and sweet pastries, a quiet revolution has been simmering in its cobbled medieval quarter. Over the past decade, the demand for authentic, wood-fired pizzas and handmade pasta has transformed this historic university town into a surprisingly competitive destination for Italian cuisine.

The beauty of dining Italian in Tours is the blend of old-world French dining etiquette with the rustic, familial warmth of Italy. Whether you are tucked away in the narrow streets of the Vieux-Tours district or sitting near the bustling Place Plumereau, you will find trattorias that respect the sanctity of slow food. Chefs here often leverage the incredible agricultural bounty of the Touraine region, merging local French produce with imported Italian flour and San Marzano tomatoes.

For the traveler, this means you do not have to sacrifice quality or authenticity when craving a break from heavier French bistro fare. From crispy Neapolitan crusts blistered in roaring ovens to silky plates of fresh tagliatelle, the options are vast and varied. Many of these establishments are run by passionate expatriates or French chefs who trained extensively in Italy, ensuring that what lands on your plate is a faithful representation of the boot-shaped peninsula.

However, navigating the dining scene in a city saturated with tourist traps can be tricky. You want to avoid the generic spots serving frozen gnocchi and overcooked spaghetti drowning in cream. Instead, you should be looking for the hidden gems where the dough is left to ferment for 48 hours and the burrata is flown in weekly from Puglia. Knowing where the locals book their tables is the key to a memorable meal.

We have done the legwork for you, traversing the arrondissements of Tours to sample the marinara, test the tiramisu, and judge the espresso. Our curated selection focuses on restaurants that offer not just a meal, but an experience—places where the service is warm, the wine lists are thoughtful, and the ingredients are treated with reverence.

Whether you are looking for a romantic date night spot, a lively family gathering, or a quick yet high-quality lunch, this guide has you covered. Below, you will find the definitive list of the best Italian tables in the city, ranging from upscale dining rooms to casual, hole-in-the-wall pizzerias.

Food was best part! As an American eating here definitely felt like they didn’t love tourists here. Got the truffle ravioli and it was delicious. The time between when we ordered and got the food was maybe 5 minutes max but it did take a while to place our order.

I had the best entrecote of my life here, and for dessert I had the Banoffee—which was also heavenly.

They serve you well, and can customise a bit if needed… It is a best Italian restaurant…

Food: tasty food! Pizza was very good. We also ordered the chef suggestion dish (fettuccine with ham and burrata - very good). But I particularly liked desserts (mousse very good and also the set of 4 desserts was very good and 2 coffees are included as well) Price: super fair price! Location: amazing location in the city center Staff/service: the lady that runs the place is Italian, super nice and recommended us several good dishes. Dogs allowed (the lady was so nice and brought us water for the dog as well)

I had dinner here with friends and we all loved our dishes. The food was so delicious and authentic, the service was warm and friendly, great atmosphere, definitely worth waiting.

The focaccia was underwhelming. I ordered the Vecchio meal set. They put very little stracciatella so after two bites, the rest of the panino has no cheese. The hibiscus lemonade tasted like medicine and the cannolo was terrible - the crust was so hard, it was hard to eat. The staff was friendly.

The food tasted delicious and the waitresses were friendly, this is why I am not giving 1 star. However, there was mold on our chocolate dessert. They did end up not charging us and giving us a new dessert for free, however we lost our appetite after that. Makes me question their quality standards. We did not get sick despite eating some of the dessert before realizing that there was fuzzy mold present.

This family owned gem was an absolute delight for wine, mozzarella appetizer( for table of 4) and dinner! The spaghetti with tomato sauce and fresh mozzarella was delicious, along with tortellini for my hubby and pasta with olive oil, garlic and basil ) made fresh per her order) for my friend. Please search out this Italian find and treat yourself for a Very Reasonable price! Bon appetite!
Bob Levy★★★★★
A great experience. Very friendly and helpful to deal with language issues. And the food was very tasty. They made me a special dish and it was perfect! Thank you.
Bart Billen★☆☆☆☆
We can't write a real positive review for this location because we've experienced only 50% quality with the dishes. The chicken filet was okay, but the veal cutlet was very chewy, not quite eatable. So we felt half cheated... Also, the accompanying vegetables were sort of cheaply served trinkets: a jar of cold vegetable broth straight from the fridge, some sandy rocket salad hastily put on the plate... The tomato slice, though, was good. It's very difficult to recommend this restaurant. No longer our choice for future visits to this beautiful city!

We visited the restaurant on September 5, 2026, while passing through Tours with my fiancée. And how can I put it… without the slightest exaggeration, it's simply the best pizza I've ever had! Everything is perfect: the dough, the quality of the ingredients, the recipes… Absolutely flawless. The team is incredibly kind, always smiling, energetic, and exceptionally attentive. They truly take the time to describe their products, share their passion, and offer excellent advice to guide our choices. To top it all off, the restaurant's setting is magnificent, modern, and welcoming, perfectly complementing the taste and visual appeal of the dishes. A must-try that I recommend 100%! Thank you to the entire team for this wonderful experience!
Aïda Mosbah★★★★★
An incredible experience at Piccia! The pizzas are simply delicious, truly among the best I've ever had, and the desserts are just as wonderful! But I absolutely loved the burrata: without exaggeration, the best burrata I've ever had. And what can I say about the dish with the burrata, roasted peach, and sun-dried tomatoes… an absolutely incredible combination! Everything was perfectly balanced, indulgent, fresh, and bursting with flavor. A true explosion of taste. The decor is also magnificent, beautifully designed, with an atmosphere that truly makes you want to savor the moment. Thanks again to Yann for his warm welcome, kindness, and attentiveness; it makes all the difference! You can taste the quality of the ingredients and the care taken with every detail. From start to finish, everything was excellent. A place I wholeheartedly recommend and where I will return with great pleasure!
MELINNA BAUDRON★★★★★
Simply delicious… 🍕 After single-handedly renovating this restaurant, the owner is on his second day of business with impeccable service, pizzas that are as beautiful as they are delicious, and a full menu already! Bonus: the indoor terrace is truly amazing. I highly recommend you try it; believe me, it's worth the trip! 😍
Fiona Paladini★★★★★
An exceptional pizza. The crust is light and perfectly risen. I ordered a Marinara with extra mushrooms. The garlic is confit, the tomato base and cherry tomatoes are cooked, the olives are marinated, and the basil leaves are fresh. The service is warm and friendly. Thank you and well done!
Ana PASQUIER★★★★★
Superb homemade cuisine and top-notch Italian wines 👌 The terrace is a complete escape in the heart of old Tours: it's incredible, you feel like you're on vacation!!! Quick and friendly service. A must-try, don't hesitate!! Thank you to the fantastic team 👌 🙏👍😉

Very kind and understanding staff, I ordered the tagliatelle which the staff add parmesan to at the table. I enjoyed my meal here a lot and recommend it to anyone who is passing by or doing a bit of shopping in the surrounding area. Les deserts sont délicieux aussi.
Diego Akel★★☆☆☆
The pizzas are very good. But the service was a little bit bad. We were eight and they refused to put two tables together, even though it was totally possible. They also refused to give butter for the bread, even though it is impossible for a pizzaria to not have butter.
Angus Di Griso★★★★★
Just walked into this place at 7 pm in the shopping centre plaza at Joué and they were still setting some of the tables. But we were quickly attended to and seated by the window facing the setting sun. The 2 female staff who looked after us were cheerful and efficient. We were given breadsticks and tomato tapenade before a large pizza and a milanese risotto which were both surprisingly good. There was grated parmesan on the table which was a another nice touch. I had a lovely craft Italian beer to wash it all down.
Howard Coffin★★★★☆
Honestly, we went on a Wednesday night and it was packed. Only two servers and the manager. But they hustled and worked hard, no slacking. I thought for sure 1.5 hours, but once we placed orders, it all turned around in 25 minutes. The server was from Venezuela with impeccable English and suggested ravioli for me and my wife with risotto. Both were excellent. Turned out great. The only catch was parking in the garage. Will go again when in Loire Valley!
Maddy Laffitte★★★★☆
Good, but a little expensive for some dishes. Waiters nice, but the manager should smile instead of saying to the staff what to do, they do their job well. Globally good place to go.

The atmosphere was amazing, it has a very good decoration, you feel right at home once you enter. The staff is very friendly, we ordered a Nutella pizza, and the taste was amazing, it doesn’t give you a sweet tooth which is great. I highly recommend this place since you’ll have a great time in there. Oh and the little football table was really fun to use as well.

Don't be put off by the basic exterior or location, this place is an absolute gem. Best pizza we've had in ages, friendly service in pleasant atmosphere. Add to this an easy walk from our hotel so could enjoy a drink. Try the local rosé - it's a pleasant change from Côte de Provence. We'll certainly be back when next in the area.

We stopped off in Tours on our way down south and after a failed attempt to eat in our hotel happened upon Il Napoli. The service was friendly and warm, the pizzas crisp, flavoursome and generously topped. Overall a great meal. We’re still full! Would thoroughly recommend!

Good place to have your pizza or pasta, staff is friendly, food no complaints, kids menu is available. Staff was friendly, but it seemed they were disappointed that we didn't order dessert, btw we are not locals and dessert culture is not close to us. One minus, is that all menus are only in french, but frankly technology these days allow you to translate everything.
Tanja Swinkels★★★★☆
Pretty italian restaurant which has both semi-chic vibes and family/kid vibes. There were a few vegetarian options, one vegan option. Portions seem a lot bigger for the pastas than the pizzas, both tasteful 🙂 The homemade tiramisu is okay, we tried the Classico and the Pas Classico and the latter seemed more special.
Mike Walton★★★★★
We were looking for a restaurant after a 580 mile drive from Spain, it was Sunday night and the hotel restaurant was closed. We were accompanied by our two small dogs who were welcomed with a smile. Neither of us speak French but the staff were extremely helpful with translating and recommendations. The pizza was amongst the best I have ever had ( and I’ve had quite a few around the world ), their prawn pasta was excellent and desert was fab. If we’re visiting Tours again next year, we will make a point of revisiting. Highly recommended
Zeyad★★☆☆☆
This place is beautiful, interior design is tastefully done, and the terrace has a nice refreshing atmosphere as well. The staff is friendly kind funny people. The food is where it falls behind, had the calzone, the dough is generic and heavy, and the ingredients are fresh but not that tasty. The appetizers were disappointing as well, feels like you can buy them at the supermarket. The aperol spritz had very mild taste. Real shame because it has good potential.
Michel Paton★★★★★
All fine! The dining room became very busy suddenly getting a bit noisy (Saturday evening crowd) ... but, all together very nice.

Lovely restaurant with indoor and outdoor seating. It's a 10 minute walk from The Campanile Hotel. We were served by a professional & super young man. The service was very quick! The smoked salmon & avocado salad is delicious as was the linguini. Highly recommended.

Exceptional multi-course lunch on a Sunday. We ordered one pasta and one pizza dish, both unique in preparation, along with a half-carafe of Italian red wine, and a shared tiramisu. What luck! The service was very friendly and attentive, speaking English to us. They even helped us catch our ride to get back to the train station at the end of a great weekend away. They have a dining room with Italian ambiance, and also a large covered patio. Don't be fooled by the industrial-looking neighborhood, this is a great find.
Tiziano Cicchitti★☆☆☆☆
The worst italian restaurant ever tried in France. When they asked me how it was, I said it was not good (the mozzarella was cheese, the tomato was not enough, the base dried and not tasty. ) as consequence the waiter got very upset and he told me that the pizza was excellent and that i was a wrong customer 😳😳 Arrogance and unprofessional both very good mixed together. Never again.

Nice outdoor atmosphere however the mozzarella on the pizzas tasted very strong, like goats cheese. The staff also hand you the card machine with a tip window that you have to awkwardly press no on. This is very not France, it's not a tipping culture, the staff are paid fairly, if you do tip it's €1 or so left in cash on the table

You cannot find a better place to eat a pizza. The service is 5 stars, the food delicious, and the place even if it’s a bit small the staff make sure that you’ll be fine. We first went to the biggest Chez Pia but because there’s no place we went to the other side of the street and eat there. We had an amazing pizza, a tiramisu that take you to the moon and a exquisite capucino…..very, very highly recommended 😊

An absolutely perfect place for pizza in Tours. Great selection of different pizzas that were perfectly baked in an Neapolitan pizza oven. It has a great atmosphere, we sat at the so-called pizza balcony so we could watch the pizza baker while preparing the food. The prices are definitely justified considering the condiments they use. We absolutely loved the Parma pizza with the burrata on top. The server was super friendly and she spoke perfect English.

I discovered this shop thanks to my colleague and decided to try it out for lunch today with my son. We got two truffle pinsa to go, along with a tiramisu. As soon as we picked up the boxes, a delicious truffle aroma wafted out… 🤤 And when we tasted them, what a pleasant surprise! The pinsa were generously filled and truly delicious: absolutely divine! The tiramisu was also excellent. 😋 And to top it all off, a warm and friendly welcome. I will definitely be back, both for the pinsa and to explore the shop itself. All these products make you want to travel… This first experience definitely makes me want to try everything else! 🇮🇹❤️

Tips for Choosing the Best Italian Dining Experience in Tours

To truly enjoy the Italian culinary scene in Tours, a little bit of local knowledge goes a long way. The dining culture in France differs slightly from Italy, particularly regarding service hours and reservation etiquette. Understanding these nuances will ensure you secure a table at the hottest spots and enjoy your meal like a true Tourangeau. Here are our top insider tips for navigating the city’s Italian restaurant landscape.

  1. Book Ahead for Vieux-Tours: The historic center is incredibly popular, especially on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights. The best trattorias in the old town are often small, intimate spaces. If you have your heart set on a specific restaurant, call ahead or book online a day or two in advance to avoid a long wait or disappointment.

  2. Embrace the "Formule" at Lunch: If you want to experience high-end Italian cooking without the high-end dinner price tag, visit during midday. Many of the top-tier restaurants offer a "formule déjeuner" (set lunch menu) which includes a starter and main course, or main course and dessert, at a fraction of the evening cost.

  3. Look for "Fait Maison": French law requires restaurants to indicate if dishes are homemade ("fait maison"). When scanning the menu outside an Italian restaurant, look for this label. It is a strong indicator that the pasta is rolled in-house and the sauces are not coming from a jar, ensuring a much higher quality meal.

  4. Don’t Skip the Loire Wines: While your instinct might be to order a Chianti or Barolo, remember you are in the Loire Valley. Many Italian restaurants in Tours have excellent cellars featuring local French wines. Ask the sommelier or server for a local red, such as a Chinon or Bourgueil, which pairs beautifully with wood-fired pizza and tomato-based sauces.

  5. Check the Oven: For pizza lovers, authenticity comes from the oven. Before sitting down, peek inside or ask if they use a wood-fired oven (four à bois). The intense, dry heat of a wood fire creates the leopard-spotted charring on the crust that is impossible to replicate in a standard electric deck oven.

  6. Respect the Service Hours: Unlike in major metropolitan hubs, kitchens in Tours often close between lunch and dinner service. Most restaurants stop serving lunch around 2:00 PM and do not reopen for dinner until 7:00 or 7:30 PM. Plan your sightseeing accordingly so you aren’t left hungry in the mid-afternoon lull.

Exploring the Italian dining scene in Tours offers a delightful contrast to the region’s traditional gastronomy. It is a testament to the city’s evolving palate and its embrace of international flavors while maintaining the French standard for culinary excellence. Whether you are grabbing a quick slice before heading to the Château de Villandry or settling in for a long, multi-course dinner after a day of wine tasting, you are sure to find a spot that feels like home.

Ultimately, the best restaurant is the one that matches your specific mood. Use this guide as a starting point, wander the lantern-lit streets of the old town, and let the aroma of fresh basil and baking dough guide you to your next great meal in Tours.
