12 Best Asian Restaurants in Carcassonne

While the medieval ramparts of Carcassonne are famous for cassoulet and hearty Languedoc cuisine, the city also harbors a vibrant and surprisingly diverse Asian food scene. From the narrow cobblestone streets of the Bastide Saint-Louis to the areas surrounding the train station, local chefs are bringing the flavors of Vietnam, China, Japan, and Thailand to the Occitanie region. Whether you are a resident looking for a break from traditional French fare or a traveler craving the comfort of perfectly steamed rice and fresh herbs, there is an option to satisfy your palate.

Navigating the culinary landscape of a historic tourist town can be tricky, as quality can often vary drastically from street to street. To help you avoid mediocre buffets and find the authentic, high-quality spots, we have focused on venues that prioritize fresh ingredients and distinct cooking techniques. This guide highlights establishments that locals frequent, ensuring you get a genuine taste of Asia without sacrificing the charm of Southern France.

In this curated list, you will find everything from steaming bowls of Pho and rich Japanese ramen to sizzling teppanyaki and delicate sushi rolls. We have considered not only the authenticity of the food but also the atmosphere, service quality, and value for money. These are places where you can enjoy a quiet date night, a quick business lunch, or a celebratory family dinner.

Whether you are a strict vegetarian looking for tofu and vegetable-forward dishes or a meat lover seeking crispy duck and grilled satay, the versatility of these restaurants is impressive. Many of these establishments have adapted their menus to include local French produce while maintaining the essential spices and techniques of their respective home countries. This fusion creates a unique dining experience that you won’t find anywhere else.

The goal of this article is to provide you with a reliable, evergreen resource for the best Asian dining experiences in Carcassonne. We have analyzed menus, customer feedback, and consistency of service to bring you a definitive list. You can trust that these recommendations are based on a deep understanding of both the local hospitality industry and the culinary standards of authentic Asian cuisine.

Before we dive into the specific venues, it is worth noting that many of the top spots in Carcassonne can get busy during the summer tourist season. Booking a table in advance is highly recommended, especially for dinner services on weekends. Without further ado, here are the standout restaurants that are currently defining the Asian food scene in this historic city.

The food is so delicious. We loved everything we ordered. Food was fresh. We went because of the reviews and it was better than we expected. I would definitely recommend. We got some chicken rice, Korean chicken bites and chicken dumplings.
Kendall A.E.★★☆☆☆
Fun looking place but the sushi is pretty bad. The sushi rice was overcooked and mushy which was the worst part. The avocado amount in the salmon avocado boursin roll did not match the photo at all (probably AI generated). The salmon was OK but thin, and despite being on the menu tuna was not available. The soy sauce was a sweet syrup which I later found out is a French thing, but was very strange with sushi. The chicken spring rolls were fine but it's hard to mess up deep fried food. There was no soap in the bathroom either.

People were queuing up for this restaurant to open. The range of dishes was excellent. Really enjoyed what was on offer. Went up several times and my favourite was the steak and prawns cooked freshly on the grill. Desserts were good too. Would recommend.

Excellent range of food, as usual with most of these Asian buffets. Lots of choice of meats, seafood to have grilled or stir fried. Good value if you have a big appetite.

Great range of food, all high quality. Sushi not very exciting, but much of the rest was new to me.

This review is for two visits. Yes, we enjoyed it so much. We decided to go back again… And we had almost the same dish! A first for us in decades of travel. That alone should speak to the quality and flavors of what we were served. This wonderful Vietnamese restaurant was on the corner of the street where we stayed. The first time we walked past and caught a scent of the amazing aroma‘s coming from it. We knew we had to eat there. The places run by a husband and wife team, he runs the front of house and she is the chef. Both of them are amazing at what they do. The place is small, so you may want to book a table as they do get busy. Also, they do take away if you want to eat at home. We were greeted with warmth and kindness, and his broken English fit perfectly with my broken French. Both of our visits were filled with laughter and conversation. It’s so nice to be treated like you were a regular customer who lives in the area. The chef is wonderfully clever, as she takes traditional Vietnamese food and elevates it. Neither of us had eaten Bún Chá before, but when we saw it on the menu, we decided to give it a try. Wow! She’s taking a straightforward street food and layered the flavors in delicately. The first night we had the pork version of it, which includes some beef, but is mainly poor oriented and a little bit spicy. Absolutely amazing! The second night, they had run out of pork and were serving a beef version. So we went with it. Those similar, the flavor experience was different, a little sweeter and a little less spicy. Also really delicious! Of the two, we have to say we preferred the pork but only by a snout lol. Our first night we had samosas appetizers, which were small filled triangles, which you wrapped in lettuce and then dipped in a vinegar sauce. Delicious! The second night we went with the fried potstickers, which they called ravioli. Also absolutely wonderful. We opted for the half carafe of house wine each night and we’re not disappointed at all. The prices are great, with appetizer and two mains with drinks landing right around €44 each night. For what we received in the experience we had it was a total bargain! Do not miss this wonderful hidden gem!

Are you a travelling Asian? Love Vietnamese food? Do you miss a hot Pho? Do yourself and get their Pho. Its good, really good. Just pricey for the small portion.
Rachel★★☆☆☆
Small portions for the price. Food took thirty minutes to come after ordered. Flavour was okay but they didn’t provide the usual condiments, like the herbs and limes.

Wonderful family restaurant run by a lovely French-Vietnamese couple. The food is to die for - freshly prepared for you with authentic mouth-watering ingredients. Better Vietnamese food than we'd even had in Vietnam. Please don't come here if you are in a hurry - this is a high quality experience for people who appreciate food done properly.

The food was either over cooked or under cooked and a lot of it was cold, best part was the desserts, definitely not worth the €27 per head we paid but a lot of people in there so obviously the locals are used to it 🤢

Wow, loved this place, the fix price for the buffet was fair, the food was top. It is quite large and popular, many dishes to chose and as it was a buffet you can try them all! We were very impressed with the freshness or the dishes, btw, it right next to an electric charging station, at this time the only fast charger in Carcassonne

All you can eat Chinese buffet. It has a selection of Chinese food but not a great amount compared to the UK but it does have a fresh fish and meat selection where you can get it cooked to your liking by the chef's there also sushi a selection of desserts and cheese and crackers. The place is very clean and the staff are friendly. Pint of beer €7

Cant give 0 stars. If you’re looking for any resemblance of Chinese from home (Ireland) don’t go here. Very basic limited menu. Starters came out on bed of old crappy lettuce which looked like should be thrown out day or two ago. The mains came. Sauce for all dishes was watery, and lacked any sort of flavour. The chicken rich in the picture was meant to be satay chicken. No flavour watery and chicken pieces were like the chicken bits you thrown out. Manky and not eaten at all. Worst food ever. Use chicken fillet next time and make proper sauces. We all felt unwell after.
Robin Rainton★★★★★
We had a delicious lunch here breaking up a long drive. If we had more time, and didn't have plans for dinner that evening we would have taken the menu which looked great value. Even though we only ordered two main dishes, that was amble for us today and was good value. Staff were friendly and the place was clean and tidy. Would certainly stop by again!

Ordered what was supposed to be a Sichuan style dish What I got was a tragic lunch of prawns with orange segments (with a side of sour ketchup) You are trying to be 'high-end' but guys, you have betrayed your native cuisine in favour of crowd pleasing nonsense. I was so disappointed.

We had a thoroughly enjoyable lunch here this week. The staff were very pleasant and professional. The food was absolutely fresh and delicious. We opted for the sushi platter and miso soup. Both were excellent. We didnt resist the desserts either - a luscious whiskey baba and a tasty tartelette au citron. Mmmmmmmm. The bathroom is spotless. And the price very reasonable. And the parking is free and there is plenty of it. We will definitely go back and soon. A great find!

Food was delicious, and the staff was welcoming. I had the harira and chicken pastilla and beef sambousa. My husband had the chicken. Portions were very good vs price.
Calguiri★★★★★
Absolutely fantastic - especially for the price! My wife and I had a pastilla & salad and chicken burger & fries, with a drink each, for €17 total!!! In 2025!!! Cheap as mcdonalds but far, far, far better quality, much much tastier, and, of course, actually* filling. Literally wouldn’t believe this could exist in this day and age in a western country if I hadn’t been there myself. Fairly new but suspect will become very popular. TL;DR fantastic food for the price - like going back 15 years. ***Thoroughly Recommend***

Terrible place. It looks dirty. My eggs were drowned in oil. Ham and cheese ultra processed- cheese was a portion of “La vache que rie”., juice concentrated. It was all advertised as Morroquien Brunch so I thought I will get something fresh. Very slow service. Coffee was good though.
Susan Stewart★★★★★
We found this lovely Morrocan cafe on a cold rainy night, what a find! Absolutely amazing food all hand made on premises and delicious. The service was good and had everything explained to us. Highly recommend for food lovers. Children might struggle for choice. Prices are really good we paid 9€ each couldn't fault it.

We totally lucked out finding this awesome spot on our way to Carcassonne La Cité from our hotel! 🤩The smell coming from the shop was just too good to pass up, so we had to check it out. We hadn't tried anything before, but everything we ordered was super tasty and really cheap! The girls working there didn’t speak much English, but they were super friendly and even tried chatting with me in Spanish since I can speak the Language, If you're in Carcassonne, you’ve got to give this place a try! ❤️"

I went to get food to take away. The lady who took my order was very friendly. She expected me to leave and come back to pick up my food in 15-20 minutes, but I asked to wait right there. That was fine. While I was waiting, she chatted with me and gave me some recommendations for the rest of my stay in Carcassonne and the Occitanie. The food was done fairly quickly, and absolutely delicious!
Mark Bray★★★★☆
We were in the mood for Asian food and had planned on going to the place right at the corner near our Airbnb. Unfortunately, they had an unexpected closure today. As we were trying to figure out where to eat, a gentleman stepped out of the restaurant, and we told him our dilemma. That we had hoped to eat at his place. He suggested we try his brothers restaurant just up around the corner, of Vietnamese place and so we did. It is a humble Mom And pop run type of place. Everything is relatively clean, but just a little down in the heels. The wife is the server and the husband is the chef. The food was delicious, though a bit basic. We had the spicy beef and the curry chicken and both were good solid choices. Nothing super outstanding or amazing but good food all around 🙂 We also ordered spring rolls, which were very good! Not quite enough lettuce for the wrapping, but we made do. The portions were a bit smaller than we are used to in other places of the same type so be aware if you’re looking for the usual larger portions that you might find elsewhere. Please note in the photos, these oval plates are not large. Our server had laryngitis, unfortunately, so we could barely communicate, but she was very pleasant nonetheless. Our bill came to just under €30 total.
Esteve Castells★★★★☆
Great noodles with spring rolls, with some spicy sauce it makes a great mix. The place is humble and run by locals. You know things are rustic when the total bill cost gets calculated by the owner by hand in a paper.
Thomas Parker★★★★★
Lovely food, great value, and a really kind and welcoming owner. It's worth the short walk outside of the main city to come and eat here.
daniel michalowski★★★☆☆
Excellent service. The lady was beyond sweet. Apparently, there were no spring rolls (the main reason I went.... it could be that they weren't vegetarian) My friend ordered spicy soup to start and loved it. Then fried rice plus shrimp curry something. The fried rice was not good. My Vietnamese salad was fine (I thought it was a garnish plate) and the vermicelli summer rolls were OK (big but not much inside) the dipping sauce was also OK. I ordered a vegetable curry with rice. Hmmm, it was mainly bamboo. It looked more like a ration than a meal. Overall, great service but ok food. (I've been to Vietnam 4 times 🤪)

We were travelling in France and craved some Chinese food, and we stumbled upon this restaurant. The food tasted very authentic, and the owner was really nice. She greeted us in both English and Chinese (Mandarin). I was really happy to have found this restaurant. It was a very restorative meal for us!
Pidor Ham★★★★★
So many choices of food and they taste quite authentic. I had the pork sichaunese sauce and shrimp with mushroom and bamboo shoot…the taste is 😍😍 love it. And you have to try their coffee ice cream ✨ The lady who works there at that time was very helpful and understanding…I had some problem with my card and it got declined, she was kind enough to deal with me nicely. She told me which ATM to go and also told me to reboot my phone (I dropped my phone while i was in that silly card decline moment). Overall, I recommend this restaurant.
Daniel Lee★★★★☆
Food was delicious and the service was good and prompt. However, minus one star for expensive rice bowl which was €2.50 each.
Susie Leventis★☆☆☆☆
Don't bother, she talks too much to customers. She takes ages to serve you. It took over 1 hour and 20 mins to get served. The restaurant has screens, and you cannot even see to get her attention. Fact. The restaurant was not busy. From her perspective she thinks customer's like conversation, that is why she is so busy that night talking. Instead of serving. Most unprofessional . We were very hungry, they are mean with their serving. Six prawn crackers seriously. Although it is free, I think it is not very generous. We actually wanted more rice, she never came to see how we were. My review is based on our experience on the day I dined, nothing to do with our bags. As you can see her long winded answer speaks volumes.

Essential Tips for Choosing Asian Food in Carcassonne

To ensure you have the best possible meal, it helps to know how to navigate the local dining scene. The difference between a standard tourist trap and an excellent restaurant often comes down to a few key details. By following these practical guidelines, you can select a venue that perfectly matches your cravings and expectations for quality.

1. Look Beyond the Medieval Walls

While dining inside the Cité de Carcassonne offers unbeatable views, the best Asian restaurants are generally located in the "Ville Basse" (Lower Town). Head to the Bastide Saint-Louis area for a higher concentration of authentic spots where the focus is on the food rather than the foot traffic. Prices here are also typically more reasonable and reflective of the quality of ingredients.

2. Check for Wok Hei and Fresh Herbs

For Chinese and Thai cuisine, look for menus that mention fresh basil, coriander, and specific cooking methods. If you order noodles, the presence of "wok hei" (that slightly smoky flavor from a screaming hot wok) is a sign of a skilled chef. Avoid places that rely heavily on frozen vegetables or generic sweet and sour sauces that lack texture.

3. Sushi Quality Indicators

If you are craving Japanese food, prioritize restaurants that advertise "riz vinaigré" made in-house and fish sourced daily. A good sushi restaurant in France should be proud of the origin of their salmon and tuna. Don’t be afraid to ask if they use fresh wasabi or high-quality soy sauce; these small details separate a great sushi bar from an average takeaway.

4. Ask About Vegetarian Fish Sauce

For vegetarians and vegans, navigating Asian menus in France can be tricky because many dishes use fish sauce (nuoc mam) or oyster sauce as a base. When visiting Vietnamese or Thai restaurants, always ask if they can prepare a dish with a soy-based or mushroom-based sauce instead. The best restaurants on this list are usually very accommodating to dietary restrictions if you communicate clearly.

5. Consider the "Menu du Midi"

If you are dining on a budget or want to sample a restaurant’s signature style without spending a fortune, visit at lunchtime. Most high-quality Asian restaurants in Carcassonne offer a "Formule" or "Menu du Midi" during the week. This usually includes a starter, main course, and sometimes a drink or coffee, offering exceptional value compared to the à la carte dinner menu.

Carcassonne is a city of history, but its food scene is constantly evolving, and the Asian restaurants featured here are a testament to that dynamic growth. Whether you choose a steaming bowl of noodles on a rainy day or a platter of fresh sashimi on a warm summer evening, these establishments offer a delicious departure from the ordinary.
