Nestled along the Alsace Wine Route, Colmar looks like it has been lifted directly from the pages of a medieval fairy tale. With its pastel half-timbered houses, winding cobblestone lanes, and gently flowing canals, this French gem offers a visual feast that attracts travelers from around the globe. Yet, beyond the historic facades and the renowned Unterlinden Museum, a vibrant modern coffee culture has quietly taken root in the city’s ancient heart.
For many visitors, exploring Colmar is as much about the atmosphere as it is about the landmarks. After hours of wandering through the districts of Little Venice or the Tanners’ Quarter, finding a beautifully designed space to rest your feet becomes essential. Fortunately, the city has seen a surge in specialty coffee shops and design-forward patisseries that cater to aesthetic sensibilities as much as they do to taste buds.
The term "aesthetic cafe" goes far beyond just having a pretty wall for a selfie. It encompasses a holistic experience that includes thoughtful interior design, quality of light, texture of materials, and the presentation of the food. In Colmar, this often means a seamless blend of historic Alsatian architecture—think exposed wooden beams and carved staircases—with contemporary minimalist design, lush greenery, or curated vintage decor.
Choosing the right spot can elevate your travel experience, turning a simple coffee break into a core memory of your trip. Whether you are looking for a sun-drenched terrace to enjoy a flat white, a moody interior to escape the winter chill, or a patisserie that plates desserts like art, Colmar has something to satisfy your specific craving. The diversity of the scene means you can find everything from Scandinavian-inspired minimalism to bohemian chic just steps apart.
Because the city is compact, it is entirely possible to visit multiple aesthetic hotspots in a single day. However, with so many options tucked away in hidden courtyards and along the riverbanks, knowing where to go saves valuable time. To help you curate your perfect itinerary, we have compiled a list of the most visually stunning and palate-pleasing establishments in the area.
Below, you will find the definitive guide to the spots that combine high-quality beverages and pastries with unforgettable design. Each location offers a unique take on the Alsatian art de vivre, ensuring that your camera roll and your stomach will be equally satisfied.

Excellent cafe with lovely service and a wonderful, comfy ambiance. We enjoyed our drinks (dirty chai latte, espresso martini, cremant rosé, riesling), chatting, and reading in this warm space. Merci!
Update: we returned 2 days later for a tasty brunch. It was a Sunday and many other places were full or closed. There was a short line waiting to get in, but the friendly host assured us they would soon have room. 5 minutes later we had a cosy table. Despite the busy hour, the staff was always friendly and felt unstressed. Great experience, again! Kudos.

The restaurant is spacious with plenty of seating, and one of the best things about it is the large indoor air-conditioned dining area, which is perfect on hot days. The menu offers a wide variety of dishes, all of which look delicious, so there’s something for everyone. They also provide free Wi-Fi, making it a comfortable place to relax and enjoy a meal.

Very nice restaurant with friendly staff. I had never been to a restaurant that serves only brunch before, so I learned something new as well haha. We ordered Porc Shawarma and Burger poulet au za’atar since it was already lunchtime, and those seemed like the only options that could replace a meal we would normally eat for lunch. The food is tasty, but a bit more seasoned than I expected and I didn’t like the sauce very much. Everything else was nicely and well prepared. The price–quality ratio is okay. All the best. 🙃

Friendly and great shakshuka. Great prices.... The shakshuka brought me back to a time I was in Barcelona ,I went to a corgi cafe and had an unfortunate experience where the corgi mauled me. He bit my face, I was bleeding profusely. It was because I had an empanada in my bag he wanted. Other that the corgi mauling, I give that cafe in Barcelona 5 stars and would go back..
Anyways, I am delirious from the Willy bus, but the shakshuka here is great and I recommend you dine in. 🥚
Başak★★★★☆
We ordered shaksuka and salmon pancake. Shaksuka was delicious. We preferred the spicy one and it was so good. I ordered salmon pancake and it looked and tasted so nice. If I go there again I will again order it. We waited like 25 minutes to get in. There there is a line usually. Ice tea was not that good. I want order it again. The place is small. You sit close to people. Overall it was nice and worth the hype.

Very cozy and welcoming place. The barista is kind, attentive, and clearly knows what he’s doing. Coffees are flavorful and well-balanced, definitely above average. And make sure to try the carrot cake — it’s moist, fresh, and surprisingly good. Perfect spot for a quiet break.

Very cute breakfast spot off the beaten path and away from crowds. Lots of outside seating and comfortable seating inside. You order electronically at the counter. We had iced lattes, yogurt bowl, hummus bread, and a cinnamon roll (not pictured). The yogurt bowl was huge! The hummus bread was a large portions as well- both were very good! The cinnamon roll was not great, would not recommend this but overall would definitely recommend coming here for breakfast!

A solid cafe right near to Mokxa Coffee (and they serve their coffee, I believe) that offered a decent breakfast option for American tourists as there were actually food items with protein!! I got like a yogurt and fruit bowl with a drink for about 14 euros, and there was avocado toast or eggs and such. Simple menu with about 5 options, with coffee drinks, though you could also walk next door and get the coffee. This was a great place to stop in if growing tired of morning bakery pastries!
Sierra Scroggins★★★★★
Absolutely loved this coffee shop and the employees were so nice! They did speak English too which was helpful. Bought cute tote bags to bring home too. Highly recommend!

"Speciality Coffee" is something else! Long wait, very disappointing food and drinks.
Ordered flat white, received the drink on the picture, judge for yourself.
The table had not been wiped down from the previous guests at any point during our visit. Their plates and glasses were only cleared when staff arrived to deliver our own order. Said this multiple times to the staff while ordering, to no effect.
Ordering is done via a touchscreen, where you also pay upfront, which makes any kind of customisation a challenge.
We had to wait more than 20 minutes for flat whites looking nothing like flat whites: the drink was too hot and the milk poorly frothed. The babychino came with cacao despite us clearly ordering without, promptly fixed though.
The avocado toast arrived without a paid add on (egg). We pointed it out and were told it was "coming soon." It never came. We finished eating and drinking, and when I went to ask for a receipt — a hard-boiled egg was given instead of the receipt (3 more minutes of waiting). By that point we had already gotten up and our table had been taken by other customers. As compensation, they offered a carrot cake to go, which was genuinely delicious and a fair gesture.
That said, the avocado toast itself was just ok.
The carrot cake saves a star. The staff is friendly.
TL;DR: Dirty table never wiped, for a specialty coffee, the flat whites were a mess, and an egg add-on simply never arrived. After we finished and got up, they offered a carrot cake to go as compensation: which was lovely. The carrot cake alone keeps it from a 1-star. If you want a good coffee thats the wrong place.

This place is gorgeous and full of love! After a warm welcome and a friendly chat about the different types of cake and cookies, we sat down in a super cozy area upstairs. The love for details makes this place absolutely beautiful. The food was tasty and also prepared with so much love. Thank you for having us!

A dreamlike experience! Everything was absolutely perfect, from the aromatic tea to the delicious, fresh scones. The pastries and coffee were also top-notch. The decor is incredibly beautiful, creating a cozy and unique atmosphere. On top of that, the staff were very friendly and welcoming. It's a must-visit in Colmar if you’re looking for a magical breakfast or teatime!

Very beautiful place! The food was good especially the avocado and bun de printemps. But for me the etagere is not worth for the cost.
Ivana Stanic★★★☆☆
Really aesthetic place with interesting tart flavours. However, we didn’t feel particularly welcomed, and the service was quite slow, we waited over 30 minutes for two cappuccinos and two tarts. Maybe it’s a cultural thing, but just a bit more warmth and friendliness would have greatly improved the overall experience.

A really good place 100% a recommendation. We had here teatime ☕ and it was amazing. It's a very nice and cozy Interieur and the stuff is a very friendly!

Best place to taste a real authentic sweet pies, their lemon tart is so tasty and the four berries fruit as well so fresh and amazing. The service is so good, cafe au lait as well was so nice and the place vibes are so fine for those who love to stay in an old decorative place. Highly recommended while roaming around Colmar beautiful streets.

Cute little cafe!
Very limited food options, BUT IT TASTED REALLY GOOD, especially the Pain au Chocolat, I really enjoyed it so much! Croissant was great too.
Homemade hot chocolate is better than the normal hot chocolate (was wondering what’s the different so we ordered to compare it, homemade one have fragrance of milk/cream 😋

First of all, if you are reading this and trying to understand if the croissants are worth a visit or not...I tell you: NO.
The croissant was the most average and least special croissant I have had in France. Even my hotel served better croissants.
Soft, doughy and not crispy on the outside.
It was simply not good. Tasted like a supermarket croissant.
I was a victim of Chatgpt who told me this place is famous for its croissants.
And more over, when you hear "French people are rude", that image is the spitting image of the female owner of this place.
She was very rude from the moment she looked at us.
We asked for 1 croissant in English.
She said Ferme!!! Which we learned by now that means "Closed".
Another worker (apparently the nice personality hire) who was more cultured understood us and told the owner we only wanted a croissant and not to sit so we were allowed to have one croissant😂.
Croissant was 2€. Too much for what it is.
Also came with an extra flavour of our first rude French experience😂.

Everything was good, but they didn't bring us the second eclair, although they did add it to the bill later.
Joanna Drab (herwanderspirit)★★★★★
If you want to stop for a coffee and experience something completely different, make sure to go in. They don’t have a professional coffee machine; it’s a traditional setup. The interior feels like it’s straight out of a movie, and the atmosphere is quite surprising. However, if you don’t have patience, this place might not be for you. But I recommend it to anyone who enjoys observing and experiencing something new while sightseeing. The staff is quite elderly, which adds to the unique atmosphere. I stopped there with a friend for coffee. The coffee was good, and we had traditional macarons, which were tasty. Of course, I didn’t get the one I ordered, but that just added to the whole interesting visit. I highly recommend it, but again, if you’re not patient, don’t go in, as I saw some people leave. Go if you’re curious about the experience and want to take a break from sightseeing.

We visited Kitsune & Tanuki for brunch and it was an absolute delight from start to finish. We were lucky enough to sit in the beautiful garden, which is a peaceful retreat, thoughtfully decorated with a lovely mix of plants including bonsai and hydrangeas. The seating is comfortable and the whole space feels pretty and well curated.
The service was attentive and warm, making us feel genuinely welcomed throughout our visit. For food, we ordered the matcha crepe cake and the croissant waffle with vanilla ice cream and maple syrup, both paired with coffee. Everything was delicious.
The food and concept is exactly the kind of thing you’d stumble across in Singapore, where Asian inspired cafes with creative menus and aesthetics are part of everyday life. We didn’t expect to find anything like this in Colmar and it was such a wonderful surprise!
Beyond the garden, the interior is equally worth exploring, beautifully Japanese inspired in both its decor and seating, and doubling as a little shop selling unique Japanese stationery and charming knick knacks. It’s the sort of place where you want to linger, browse, and soak it all in.
Hana Marčetić★★★★★
Amazing experience! We were lucky to get in without reservation, but definitely recommend calling ahead - people were turned away for lack of space without booking in advance. Take your time here, taking the tea on tatami was so much fun, and they can do the matcha ceremony for you as well! Lovely aesthetic interior, and just overall a nice vibe
Lawkaanat★★★★★
We stopped by this Japanese Tea House on a rainy day, and it was the perfect cozy escape. We had the ramen with French pork (not chashu) in a soy milk broth — rich, creamy, and exactly what you want on a chilly day. The special tea called “Night at Versailles” was amazing — beautifully aromatic, slightly sweet, and so comforting.
Their caramel pudding is adorable (and kind of funny to eat) — it instantly puts you in a good mood. The interior is IG-worthy, with lovely décor and a few traditional Japanese-style floor seats that make it feel authentic and peaceful.
In the stillness of the garden, a Kitsune revealed itself — a messenger of spirit and change, reminding us that magic often hides in plain sight.
The staff were so friendly and sweet! I tried speaking to them in Japanese since I don’t speak French — but in the end, we all switched to English and laughed about it 😂. Such a warm, welcoming place — we’d definitely come back again!

The best matcha latte I've had in Europe. The mille-crepes is also very full of flavor, the perfect balance between the cream and matcha. If you're a matchaholic definitely try this spot out.
Melanie Mengüş★★★★★
The most magical coffee shop of Colmar! It is located in a quiet street inside a beautiful house. It's a cozy and modern Japanese tea room that also serves savoury food for lunch like ramen. But I only tried the sweet food and drinks.
I had the matcha mousse which was shaped in a bunny and served with a berry coulis. It was light but tasty! My Husband had the dango which is a kind of mochis served on a skewer. It was intriguing but good. The black sesame latte was good too but the Sakura tea was amazing.
However, I suggest you to book online before your visit because it's really busy. We visited on a Saturday afternoon without a reservation and we were lucky to have the last table. We came all the way from the UK so we would have been disappointed if we couldn't have a table.

Very nice place for pastries and coffee, the apple crumble and croissant were top notch. The service was excellent too, friendly and fast. Would definitely come back.

Very cute, delicious, high quality, friendly place for a quick breakfast. We had the cafe au lait, iced latte, pain au chocolat, almond croissant, yogurt bowl. Everything was fresh, delicious, a deserved quickly! I mention the quickness only because we were slightly cramped for time and had no issues getting our orders placed, food delivered, and able to pay in a timely manner. The staff were super friendly as well!

It is a nice and cozy cafe.
We had tea and something sweet on the side: a cookie and a lemon cake.
The cookie was really delicious, but the lemon slice was a bit dry.
The tea was super!
The ambiance: pleasant.
The staff: really friendly 🙂
The toilet was not very clean…
and it was freezing there.
In general we liked it there, 4 stars 🌟

Mokka Café in Colmar is a cozy little gem that’s perfect for a slow, indulgent breakfast or a relaxed afternoon break. Tucked in a charming corner of the town, the café combines modern aesthetics with a warm, inviting vibe—exactly the kind of place you want to stumble upon while exploring the picturesque streets of Colmar.
I ordered a bowl (açaí-style), a croissant, a coffee, and a slice of pistachio cake, and each item had its own standout character.
The bowl was fresh, vibrant, and beautifully presented. It had the perfect balance of fruits, granola, and yogurt—light but satisfying, and full of natural sweetness. It felt refreshing and wholesome, making it a great choice for a healthy start to the day.
The croissant was wonderfully flaky and buttery, with just the right crispness on the outside and a soft, delicate interior. It tasted fresh out of the oven and easily rivals some of the best I’ve had in France.
The coffee was smooth, rich, and served with care. It wasn’t overly bitter or acidic, just a well-balanced cup that paired perfectly with both the croissant and dessert.
Now, the real highlight for me was the pistachio cake. It was soft, moist, and not overly sweet, with a deep pistachio flavor that tasted authentic and nutty—not the artificial kind. The texture was spot-on, and it was the kind of dessert you keep thinking about long after you’ve left.
Overall, Mokka Café offers high-quality food in a beautifully curated space. Whether you’re grabbing a quick bite or sitting down for a slow brunch, it hits the mark. I’d definitely return—especially for that pistachio cake.

What a perfect spot to get out of the scorching sun and enjoy a lovely, Alsatian lunch! We both had Rösti (I had Alsatian, served with ham and he had Normandy, served with smoked trout and a poached egg), both were served with a salad and were delish. Lovely coffees and dessert served with a smile so this place is easy to recommend .

Perfect place for breakfast! They had several breakfast meal options and quiches and tarts. I got one with a baguette, coffee, juice, and croissant. I thought it was good value for the money. We also got pancakes with honey and they were so good. I would definitely come back and recommend!!

Visited recently. Nice little place, but the food received was not what was described ("potatoes", but received 3 small spoonfuls of mashed potatoes). As clearly seen in one of the photos below, the portions, were perhaps more of an appetizer size than lunch. (For reference, the plate with shedded pork shown in the photo was 16€). A small dessert was included, which our selection was a small glass containing a round of cake with what seemed blueberries with sauce.
The food took a lengthy time to come out even though there were only 2 other tables being served lunch. The rest of the tables were only having "Kaffee und Kuchen".
We did found the coffee menu very small. Many teas available.
---Edit to clarify manager's response---
The menu was in French, but as it has already stated in the review, the lady up front said the dish came with "potatoes", and not "mashed potatoes".
-- As previously stated, at the time we were there, only two other tables were eating lunch.
--We made no reference to tea, only to coffee menu.

We were starving for a cup of coffee. This was the first place we saw on our way, and it turned out to be really cozy.
The staff working there was really nice. The barista answered all our questions about the drinks. She also supported a conversation about different countries, and the banknotes and photos hanging inside.
The drinks and ice cream were wonderful. I ordered a dirty chai with chocolate ice cream. My relative enjoyed alpine iced tea.
Overall, I have no complaints. It was a great experience.

Outstanding Coffee. In fact, I’ve never drank my latte without sugar (Yes, I’m an American hooked on sugar) I ordered a A latte and asked for sugar, The barista said no no no sugar for you. Our coffee is too good. He was absolutely right!!! Great service too!

The coffee, ice cream and staff here are all top notch. My group and I came here each morning for coffee and pastries. The coffee was excellent (and sourced from woman owned companies which we loved) and the pastries were the best we had in the region. They always tasted fresh and authentic. We stopped by two evenings for ice cream and it was just as good! Highly recommend the coffee flavor!! The staff was always so kind, even putting aside a pastry upon delivery that they knew we wanted to try and allowing us to still order ice cream just as they were about to close for the night. We hope to be back one day!

Stopped in for brunch and absolutely loved it. I had the muffin with salmon and a poached egg — it was delicious. The accompanying salad was surprisingly tasty, especially the dressing. Cozy café in Colmar, with very kind staff, a bit away from the historic center, but totally worth a try. I had an amazing coffee and a big slice of cake, with lower prices than elsewhere in the city. Highly recommended!

We loved our visit to this nice coffee place. We ordered the best selling items which were the hot dog and the sweet-potato pancakes. We arrived in Colmar past lunch time, and saw a long lineup at Jadis so we lined up for it. A staff came out and said kitchen was closed and they could only serve drinks and dessert; however my French husband asked him again, the staff went in to check, and came back to take us in.
We ordered lunch, and felt very lucky. We were treated well despite it being packed solid.
The food (Alsace style, my husband’s favorite) was amazing. It was generously proportioned and filling. Dessert was great as well.
There might be some misunderstanding about the lunch serving time, but we were thankful they got us in. We enjoyed the food and dessert. Price was fair for the quality and size. If you love Alsace style food you would love this restaurant. This remains one of the best meals I had on this trip.

I would not personally recommend this place. We had quiche Lorraine which was nice but a little overcooked. The apple strudel was burnt which you can’t really see under the powdered sugar. The apples also tasted a bit stewed. But - the staff were polite and it was nice place to sit. It is ok but one of the more expensive places we came in Colmar. I wouldn’t get the Apple strudel.

Jadis et Gourmande is a lovely spot in Colmar with a relaxed and charming atmosphere, especially when sitting outside. It’s a great place to take in the surroundings while enjoying a leisurely meal.
The beef was particularly impressive, very tender and well cooked, with a rich flavour that stood out. The salad was fresh and well prepared, making for a simple but satisfying accompaniment.
Overall, a very enjoyable dining experience with good food and a pleasant outdoor setting.

We walked in this cafe and were very much positively surprised! The cereals bowl was the best I’ve ever tried! It had lots of different berries, chia, yogurt and many other ingredients. It was very elaborate and complex. I liked it very very much! My boyfriend had very tasty Lebanese kind bread or smth, very delicious! That’s one of the best brunches we’ve ever had.

Beautiful little spot in Colmar, I was there for the weekend enjoying a stroll when we came across it, sat down for a quick drink and really enjoyed the beautiful atmosphere. The staff is very friendly and the prices are very reasonable.

Tips for Choosing the Perfect Aesthetic Cafe in Colmar
To make the most of your coffee-hopping adventure in this Alsatian town, a little bit of strategy goes a long way. The cafe culture here is influenced by both French leisure and German efficiency, meaning peak hours can be busy, and the vibe can shift dramatically depending on the time of day. Here are a few expert tips to ensure you have the best possible experience while seeking out the most beautiful spots.
1. Time Your Visit for the Golden Hour
Colmar’s beauty is amplified by natural light. If you are visiting a cafe with a terrace or large windows, aim to arrive in the mid-morning when the sun is high enough to illuminate the facades but the morning rush has died down. Alternatively, late afternoon provides a warm, golden glow that perfectly complements the pastel-colored buildings, ideal for photography.
2. Look Beyond the Main Tourist Artery
While the areas immediately surrounding Little Venice and the Cathedral are stunning, the cafes directly on these main routes can often be crowded and pricier. Venture just one or two streets back into the residential lanes. You will often find hidden gems where the locals go, offering more authentic interior design and a quieter, more relaxed atmosphere away from the tour groups.
3. Understand the French Service Rhythm
In France, coffee is often enjoyed slowly, and the staff will not rush you. This is excellent for soaking in the aesthetic, but it means you should not expect the fast turnover of a chain coffee shop. If you need to order quickly because you are on a tight schedule, consider sitting at the bar rather than waiting for table service, or simply allow extra time to enjoy the ambiance.
4. Check for Seasonal Decor
Many of Colmar’s most aesthetic cafes change their interior styling based on the season. While spring brings fresh flowers and open windows, the winter months transform these spaces into cozy havens with velvet textures, candlelight, and festive decor. If you are visiting during the famous Colmar Christmas Markets, be aware that the most beautiful cafes will have long queues, so try visiting right at opening time.
5. Don’t Skip the Restrooms and Details
A true aesthetic cafe pays attention to every detail. Often, the most memorable and design-forward elements—such as vintage wallpaper, artisan tiles, or unique lighting fixtures—are located in the hallways or restrooms. Don’t be afraid to explore the interior fully, as many of these spaces are housed in historic buildings with architectural quirks that are not visible from the street.
6. Ask About the House Specialty
While a cappuccino is a safe choice, aesthetic cafes in Colmar often pride themselves on signature drinks or specific pastries that are designed to be photographed. Ask the barista what their most popular or visually unique item is. This not only ensures you get the best taste but often leads to the most impressive presentation for your photos.
Colmar’s cafe scene is a delightful paradox, blending the weight of centuries-old history with the lightness of modern design trends. Taking the time to sit, sip, and observe the interplay of light and texture in these spaces allows you to connect with the city on a deeper level than simply passing by the landmarks. Whether you are seeking a quiet corner to journal or a vibrant spot to socialize, the perfect aesthetic haven is waiting for you here.
As you plan your journey through the cobbled streets, remember that the best experiences often come from wandering without a strict agenda. Allow the aroma of fresh coffee and the sight of a beautifully styled window display to guide you. In a town as picturesque as Colmar, every corner turned is an opportunity to discover your new favorite space.
