15 Best Seafood Restaurants in Lille

Lille’s culinary reputation often leans heavily on carbonnade, Maroilles, and the comforting warmth of an estaminet, but the city’s proximity to the North Sea means seafood is woven deeply into its gastronomic identity. From the bustling stalls of Wazemmes market to the elegant dining rooms near the Grand Place, the city offers a surprisingly diverse maritime menu. Whether you are seeking a plateau de fruits de mer piled high with ice or a contemporary plate of seared scallops, Lille has an address to satisfy the craving.

Unlike coastal towns where the port is the star, dining on seafood in Lille is defined by a distinct Flemish influence and a penchant for high-quality imports. The best chefs in the region treat fish and shellfish with the same reverence they give to local meats and cheeses, often incorporating regional ingredients like chicory or beer-based sauces. This creates a unique intersection of the North Sea and Northern French terroir that you simply won’t find elsewhere in France.

Finding the right spot can be tricky because the scene ranges from ultra-casual oyster bars to Michelin-starred tasting menus. Your budget and the atmosphere you seek will dictate where you should book a table; a quick lunch of fish and chips differs vastly from a long, luxurious dinner involving lobster and white wine. Understanding the layout of the city helps too, as the best spots are often tucked away in Vieux Lille or the vibrant Rue de Béthune area.

Quality is paramount in this landlocked yet seafood-obsessed city, and the top establishments prioritize sourcing from small-scale fisheries and reputable French markets. You will notice a strong emphasis on seasonality, with menus shifting to highlight the best of Brittany, Normandy, and the local Opal Coast. Whether you prefer raw, grilled, or poached, the focus is consistently on letting the freshness of the catch speak for itself.

As a visitor or a local looking to expand your palate, navigating the sheer volume of restaurants can be overwhelming. We have cut through the noise to bring you a curated list of establishments that consistently deliver on quality, service, and atmosphere. From historic brasseries to modern neo-bistros, these are the places where the seafood is handled with expertise and passion.

Below, you will find a carefully selected guide to the best the city has to offer, followed by practical advice on how to get the most out of your dining experience in this northern French capital.

Alas, it is becoming more difficult to find a great seafood restaurant in France as it is elsewhere. Fish is expensive now, and the margins are just too tough for most restaurateurs. Even old favorites of mine like La Coupole in Montparnasse, with its magnificent interior by Slavik, are not what they used to be. Expensive and not the freshest fish anymore. But then in a city off the tourist track like Lille one finds a true gem that reminds you of the old days. Quai 38 has won my heart and is now my go-to seafood table in France. The quality of the seafood itself is just superb -- fresh and sweet with the taste of the ocean. But then the chef's preparations add that extra magic that makes for a special experience. Try the Lobster Couscous. Innovative and delicious. The service was not only competent and discreet but quite charming as well. Our servers were 2 identical twin boys who made is feel very welcome. The wine list is well selected and the suggested pairings were real winners. Lastly, the chef himself came out, refilled our glasses and chatted with us. If you are only in Lille for a short stay this is one restaurant you definitely should not miss. We will be back-- often. Very highly recommended.

Super friendly welcome, tastefully decorated seafood restaurant that is worth the walk from Lille central. From greetings to the au revoir, the staff were all amazing, attentive and made us feel really welcome. The food was absolutely fantastic - razor clams, tempura prawns, lobster and John Dory were all expertly cooked and presented well and tasted really, really great. It was my first trip to Lille and Quai38 is the perfect excuse to return!
Simon Keen★★★★★
This is a lovely restaurant tucked away in a back street of Lille. Wonderful seafood cooked with imagination. The couple running it couldn't be nicer, even though my french is close to non-existent. A great atmosphere.
Dorothy Eure★★★★★
We enjoyed our dinner at Quai 38 so much, we had to go back 2 more times! The food was excellent and the staff was a delight! We cannot recommend them highly enough! Fantastic restaurant!
A Lud.★★★★★
The food here is simply delicious and the service and welcome top notch. Warm welcome beautiful environment and the loveliest off staff, the fish was so fresh and the menu changes daily. Sea bream carpaccio- excellent and one of the best razor clams. My scorpion fish was beautiful and the octopus delicious. Our lively waitress helped us pair the wines which were exceptional and everything came by the glass or carafe so we could compliment our dinners. Lovely just lovely I wish I was more local

Spoiler alert, the stars are to assess whether our expectations (quality of the restaurant, value for money, etc based on its category) were met or not, so if they are met, it is just 3 stars which is good (it does not mean average restaurant but rather that you get what says on the tin, even if it is a Michelin star restaurant). Anything exceeding or failing expectations results in more stars or fewer. We like the idea of a surprise menu. The decor of the restaurant is modern and minimalistic. The service was very friendly and explained all the dishes well. The ray fish was delightful but the rest of dishes did not have the impact that we would have expected. We would have expected to be surprised but did not find the dishes as elaborated as we thought and we think that fish dishes need to be allow you to taste the fish and its freshness rather than being hidden by the sauces used. We also found it very pricie considering the above and how good average French cuisine is.
Laurent Renard★★★★☆
Fantastic one-and-only menu for 50 euros. Probably the best fish i've ever eaten (red mullet) with the Korean bbq. Outstanding great level of taste, perfect accompaniment with wines and beer. Less perfect : fancy furnitures with unique style has a limit > comfort. The seats are not very comfortable. The led light at the height of human eyes are maybe not a great fit. All the rest are a must-see and the service is sharp.
Tim★★☆☆☆
Before we were welcomed or asked about drinks, the first thing we heard was an unclear reference to a “star chef.” KREVETTE was opened by Florent Ladeyn, whose Auberge du Vert Mont holds a Michelin star. Leading with that credential felt more promotional than hospitable—and set a standard the evening did not meet. The shelled whelks were dry and came with a plain mayonnaise-like sauce. Two dishes were very good, but most of the food lacked distinction and tasted flat. The bread and its accompaniment were equally unremarkable. The brioche tasted burnt, the aubergine was tough and overly charred, and an unpleasant burnt smell lingered throughout the evening. I would have liked a glass of Champagne or another sparkling wine, but only full bottles were available. No alternative or later drink was offered. My wife’s cocktail was unremarkable and overwhelmed by flowers. The dishes were barely explained, leaving us unsure how some elements were meant to be eaten. Our low window seat was uncomfortable. When no dessert spoons arrived, I took some from an empty table—hardly graceful, but by then basic hospitality had become self-service. We do not write negative reviews lightly, but at this price, most of the food and the service fell short of the restaurant’s ambition.
Andreas Behrens★★★★★
Excellent culinary experience, lovely service. You’re just loosing a point on furniture (a restaurant like this deserves tables that don’t wiggle). We made a spontaneous decision and just walked in but I suppose reservations would be a good idea. We were able to sit outside on the large side walk were it was rather quiet. The food was really well prepared and presented. In addition to the four-course meal (set menu, à la carte is only available for drinks) we had an excellent amuse-bouche before and cheese at the end of the meal before desert. Thank you for the evening.
Maris O'Sullivan★★★★☆
The food was excellent. Creative, delicious and interesting and the portion sizes are very very good. BUT the ventilation in the restaurant is very poor which leaves the whole restaurant smokey. This is not only unpleasant but very unhealthy ( and our clothes and hair still smell of smoke 24 hours later). Also the high tables are not very comfortable and difficult to get up and down from. They only have 3 spots with stools which are not on a high table. If they fixed the ventilation and got proper tables and chairs they would have a fantastic product.

We enjoyed the Oyster Happy Hour this week. Tasty fresh oysters, some accras and the plat du jour. Excellent service, and delicious fresh food. Well-priced and satisfying wine selection. We will come back!
Marina Powell★★★★★
I visited yesterday with my father and all I can say is “wow”. We had “La Planche du Jour”, and “La Planche ROK” along with 6 oysters and 6 crevettes. All the seafood was fresh and paired beautifully with their selection of wines. My only comment is I would suggest making the Aperol spritz with cremant to have a more balanced flavour. Thank you for a wonderful evening, we’ll be back soon 🙂

We first visited in March 2026. It was so good we came back to celebrate our wedding anniversary in July. Oysters superb, smoked Octopus amazing, staff super helpful, Maxim in particular. Purchased several bottles of Artisan Kefir to take away with us. Looking forwards to returning with our daughter.
Kirstin Bolton★★★★★
Delicious fresh seafood. We ordered a seafood platter, with some smoked Herring and Crab on the side. The restaurant keeps the food simple and the only sides available was nice bread. The service was lovely and friendly. We would thoroughly recommend.

Nice cozy street seafood. Very good service.. attitude and most importantly... nice wine. Recommend if you in the area.

Amazing food and great service. The staff looked after us really well! We had oysters, prawns, tuna, salmon and sardines! Will definitely return. Best spot in Lille
Carolien Coenen★★★★★
Highly recommended if you love oysters, like me. The service is very friendly and they will gladly recommend their favorite oysters to you. I loved the welcoming atmosphere, the beautiful bar, the lovely champagne and the nice wine. But the star of the evening were definitely the oysters. We visited in winter and enjoyed the cozy vibes inside, but L'Aterlie Iodé also has a small terrace, so you can enjoy a good glass of wine outside, if weather permits.

It is a small but high quality place. Very tasty and fresh seafood - Good price - Great atmosphere - Very friendly stuff… It was a great choice for a friends night out (girls dinner)

Amazing oysters and seafood. Nice champagne, and great cheese and cold cuts board.

One of the best in town! I visited the place with my wife and got the gambas, the BB boudeuse, une planche mixte, les sardines millésimes and two beers! Everything was super fresh, delicious and the staff was soooo friendly! I totally recommend paying a visit here!

This is one of our favorite restaurants in Vieux-Lille. It is a 100% safe place for people with celiac, which is extremely rare. Nevertheless, the food is absolutely worth the visit even if you don’t have any dietary restrictions. On top, the owner and the staff are always so welcoming.

Les fishtons is in one of the nicest foodie areas in Lille, Rue des Bouchers. Very fresh seafood and fantastic croquettes. Very recommended especially if you find a table outside! Also, nice service 🤩
Guillermo Poeran★★★☆☆
Food looked really nice. The fries were very good. The black mayonnaise is not for me. The tartar sauce was nice. The fried fish tasted bland. As if no spices were used before it was fried/in the batter. A lot of French people seemed to enjoy it though. But it was not for me.

Great meal and great atmosphere, very nice and caring staff, fresh fish, good beer. Amazing sauces! We were very lucky to be there on the game night, it was a nice addition to an already enjoyable evening.

Very reminiscent of seaside restaurants in Morocco. I read the one star reviews and had some trepidation, but I can assure you that the food was excellent. No hidden charges, and since you choose the fish yourself you can scarcely complain about your own choice! We arrived just before it got crowded, so our server was quite busy but took good care of us. Didn't have the salad so can't comment on it. Fish, French fries, soft drink and a carafe of water totaled 35€ for two. Quite a deal.

Very tasty food. Fun that you can pick your own fish combination!

Fish varieties are good. Kg. Price is 28,90 Euro. We paid 32 euro for fish. It is ok. We had Additionally 2x Cola , 1 fried potato, 1 salad these are 20 Euro! Total 52 Euro. The side foods and beverages are too expensive! There were no menu so we couldn’t check it. I recommend to ask the prices beforehand.

The restaurant offers a charming and romantic ambiance, complemented by impeccable and attentive service. The staff showed great care in accommodating children’s needs, which was truly appreciated. The oysters were exceptionally fresh and beautifully plump. Overall, a highly recommended dining experience.👍👍👍

The best service, owner is very kind and is passionate about his restaurant. Amazing quality oysters and wine that fits perfectly. I recommend it to everyone!
Vivian Chen★★★★★
We came for lunch on a rainy Saturday and were the first customers. It’s a cozy space with seating for about 20-30. The owner knows his oysters and is a master shucker! No grit or shell in the 18 oysters we ordered and plenty of that briny oyster juice. Super impressed. The oysters were so fresh and the wines by the glass to pair with them were excellent. We could have spent a whole afternoon working our way through the wines and different oysters if we didn’t have a baby in tow! The bread and butter that accompanied the oysters was lovely as well. Would highly recommend if you’re in Lille and love oysters!
M M★★★★★
Was recommended to this restaurant by a friend and it’s a most treasured find! Cosy, friendly and some of the best crustaceans including super ‘caught today’ oysters, that I have eaten for a while. Very fresh, price reasonable and tasty!! If you happen to be in Lille, and want something off the beaten ‘brasserie’ track, you should try this establishment. Highly recommended 😋
Jah-Leah★★★★★
Early evening snack. Some of the best oysters I’ve had at this price point. Bread and butter on the side not something we do in the states but they along with Chimay (beer) was awesome! Thanks so much to *Paul? Our server that evening for his kindness , service and dope music.

The food was excellent from starters to main course and dessert. The sauce in the meatballs felt home made and though I am not a vegetables person, I left none of the vegetables on my plate. The vodka on the house was a very nice touch. Next time I will go back, I will definitely try some of the products offered to go. Two small things to improve: The exterior is in a need of some TLC, the wine glasses were not the cleanest I have ever had. Overall, the quality of food compensated any shortcomings. Would definitely go back.
Sonia F★★★☆☆
Food was good, with high quality fish but in my opinion a little expensive for the amount. The taste was good and the place has relaxing atmosphere.
Michaela★★★★★
Delicious fish dishes and affordable set menus, highly recommended. There is a little shop in the front of there store offering take aways like a deli for smoked salmon and other dishes. The place is very busy, so book a table ahead or be prepared to wait or return when less busy. There is a Skandinavian theme to most dishes.

Very nice restaurant with super high quality food and value for money prices. Warm atmosphere and nice staff. definitely recommend.

As a Scandinavian I found it quite good, but not amazing, which it could become. It needs a slightly more authentic touch and maybe some Scandinavian desserts, f ex waffles with brown cheese and raspberry jam.

What a great little restaurant this is. We were in town on vacation for just one day and selected this place. Very happy we did. My wife had a salad with goat cheese that she says is the best she has ever had, and she has had that many places throughout France and the US. As the photo shows, the goat cheese was baked onto a piece of wonderful bread, so it was almost like getting a salad and sandwich. I had a stew and our friends with us each had a ham and cheese bake of some kind. Forgive me for not remembering all of the details, but it was in French. Overall though, this was an excellent experience in every way. Great service, great food, convenient location. Note that we did not have a reservation, but the owner squeezed us in. I would highly recommend it because even at 1:30 on a weekday, this restaurant was packed.
Erik Haiczinger★★★★☆
Traditional restaurant with limited indoor seating, tables were quite crowded so there was not much space for the waiters to move around. I understand the need to put as many tables as possible however maybe the restaurant could use a bit more space upstairs as the waiters and the other guests kept bumping into my seat and I don't consider myself overweight. So just keep that in mind when you choose your seat. Also, booking is seriously recommended in our experience. Food was good, fish soup was really good. I don't know what happened with my frites on my main course but it looked like it was the remaining small, crispy bits from the bottom of a precooked bag of frozen fries. It was tasty though. Overall, everything was decent I'd say.
Uliana Bilynska★★★★★
This smelly cheese is absolutely amazing, but i couldn't finish my food, its full of calories, but i think i will eat this plate with this amazing food. Waiters are very friendly. We didn't have reservations, they told us to come back in 40 minutes, and here you go. You have your cheese and beer
Erin Mann★★★★☆
We made sure to reserve a table ahead of time based on reviews. The place is really cute and the food is good. Everything we ate was a heavy hitter! Very filling! Honestly I would suggest skipping any starters because the food is so filling. We went after a super hot day and then the thunderstorms began. Not a big deal but it was stuffy inside

This is a very popular restaurant, so I made a reservation beforehand and visited. I went alone during the opening hours of the restaurant, and in an instant I could see it filled with customers. I liked the casual interior and the lively atmosphere. The staff welcomed me kindly at every moment, especially the smile of the female server with black permed hair was so beautiful. Her smile was warm and lovely. It is convenient because there is an English menu and the staff speaks English. The food was warm and flavorful. I had a satisfying dinner. Feel so good.

Wow, best restaurant in Lille. Excellent, friendly service, very attentive. But food...out of this world.. I had salmon as an appetizer, fish as my main main with Rose. Top it off with strawberry desert: light, fresh And so delicious!!! HIGHLY RECOMMEND

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ La Petite Cour A wonderful French restaurant with truly delicious and well-executed cuisine. We ordered foie gras, escargots, and a crab-and-cabbage parcel as starters, followed by an Argentine steak, scallops, and Flemish stew as main courses. Every dish was excellent, with no weak points. The foie gras and the steak were outstanding - rich in flavor and perfectly cooked. The scallops were delicate, and the Flemish stew was hearty, comforting, and very authentic. The service was friendly and attentive without being intrusive, which made the whole dining experience even more enjoyable. Highly recommended for anyone looking for quality French cuisine.

Lovely building. Couldn't find the door to start with 😂 Food was so delicious. Mr and my partner went with the Flemish stew and the prawn croquettes and they were absolutely delicious! The stew was very rich and a generous portion. For desert, my partner loved his cream brule And I went with their cheesecake! Absolutely divine! Was so sad that I was so full and couldn't finish it !! 100% recommend

Something different, on a beautiful barge boat by the canal away from the center of town. Cosy with great service. Tasty fresh food, with a good selection of drinks.

Very nice athmosphere, friedly service. Food is good with some room for improvement. The sauce was for dorade too heavy. The served bread was horrible. The tuna (entrée) was great, also the sauce that was served with the tuna fit well. The taste of the charcutery of the mixed plate could be improved. The cheese and the graved salmon of this plate tasted very good. Wine was very good.

Great food and service! Lucky to get table as it was fully booked! We did arrive at 7/7.30, which was early and we did see them turn people away who didn’t have a booking.

We had a reservation and were seated very easily. The food options were nice. I believe the hamburger is quite popular, as most people were having it. However, we chose the dish of the day and had a delicious salmon with lemon sauce. The service was excellent. We sat in the garden, and if the weather is nice, sitting outside makes the experience even better. It’s a restaurant I would definitely visit again. Thank you!

This was a great experience, the service was lovely, the staff spoke English and were very helpful and supportive. The food was amazing and it was very quiet as we arrived one hour before closing.

Lovely place the atmosphere is very nice, the service is above and beyond and the food is excellent !! Everything is freshly made with a lot of consideration and care, the french fries are also freshly made and therefore absolutely delicious ... I can highly recommend this place. We took a platter for 24€ where you can taste all the main platters and totally loved it !!! Thank you so much Flo, best of luck !!!

We ordered a hummus, a salad and 2 beef filets, the tastiest was the bread for the hummus. The salad was big but it didn’t had many ingredients, too much of the same. In was supposed to come with a raspberry vinaigrette and it had none. And too little duck. Not really enjoyable. Then one of the fillets was big and another really small. Not what we were expecting after reading the reviews for this place. The dessert was ok. We didn’t felt really happy paying what we payed for the food that we had.

We visited this restaurant with a group of 30 persons and we were impressed. The food was delicous, nicely presented and the service was perfect. Although we were such a big group the staff was very attentive, we were served all at the same time and every request was fullfilled.

A great place for fish lovers... but not only (they also offer meat 🤗). The ingredients are fresh and the cuisine is refined and delicious. All this in a beautifully decorated and peaceful setting. The service was also pleasant but a little slow. That's my only complaint: avoid booking during your lunch break if you have meetings in the early afternoon 😅

We came for lunch today, for Mother's Day. We were absolutely delighted. The cuisine was refined and very flavorful, beautifully presented. The waiter was very friendly. The manager was lovely, very attentive, and always smiling. As a bonus, we received beautiful roses to take home. Thank you so much!

Essential Tips for Enjoying Seafood in Lille

While Lille might not be a port city, dining on seafood here comes with its own set of regional rules and etiquettes that can elevate your meal from good to unforgettable. Knowing how to navigate the menu, when to book, and what to order alongside your meal will ensure you get the authentic Flemish seafood experience. Here are a few insider tips to help you navigate the local scene with confidence.

1. Embrace the Flemish Beer Pairings
While a crisp Muscadet or Chablis is a classic choice for oysters and white fish, Lille is beer country. Don’t be afraid to ask for a local bière de garde or a Belgian-style Saison to pair with your mussels or smoked fish. The carbonation and slight bitterness of a good local ale often cut through the richness of creamy sauces better than wine can.

2. Look for "Cuisine au Beurre"
In Northern France, the preparation matters. Many coastal regions in the South of France rely heavily on olive oil, but in Lille, the finest seafood is often cooked in high-quality butter. This adds a richness that pairs beautifully with the region’s love for comfort food. If you see a dish described as "meunière" or "à la nantaise," you are in for a classic buttery treat.

3. Don’t Skip the Herring and Smoked Fish
Because of the city’s Flemish heritage, the fishmongers and restaurants here have a long tradition of smoking and pickling. While a fresh oyster platter is always tempting, try the smoked eel or the traditional raw herring with onions if you see it on the menu. It is a local delicacy that connects Lille to its northern European roots.

4. Check for the "Arrivage" or Market Specials
Many of the best restaurants in Lille update their menus daily based on what arrived from the coast that morning. Rather than sticking rigidly to the printed menu, ask your server what the "arrivage du jour" is. This will often be the freshest fish in the house, prepared simply and priced reasonably compared to the static menu items.

5. Book Ahead for Weekend Oyster Hours
Seafood in Lille is a social event, particularly on weekend afternoons. Oyster bars and brasseries fill up quickly with groups sharing platters and champagne or beer. If you plan to dine on a Saturday or Sunday, especially for lunch, a reservation is almost mandatory. Without one, you may find yourself waiting long past your appetite.

Exploring the seafood scene in Lille is as much about the atmosphere as it is about the food. The city’s brasseries are designed for lingering, encouraging you to sit back, crack open a crab claw, and watch the world go by. It is a social ritual that invites you to slow down and appreciate the craftsmanship of both the fishermen and the chefs.

Whether you choose a historic institution in the center or a modern bistro on the outskirts, you are participating in a culinary tradition that values freshness above all else. Enjoy the journey through the city’s best maritime offerings, and let your palate be guided by the seasons and the expertise of the locals.
