10 Best Vegetarian Restaurants in Lille

Lille has quietly become one of the most exciting food cities in northern France, and its vegetarian scene is no exception. While the region is historically known for hearty meat stews and Maroilles cheese, a new wave of chefs is proving that plant-forward cooking can be just as comforting and creative. From cozy bistros tucked behind the Grand Place to modern cafés in Wazemmes, there is a growing number of spots where vegetables take center stage.

For travelers and locals alike, finding a satisfying meat-free meal in Lille is easier than ever. The city offers everything from fully vegan bakeries to upscale dining rooms with dedicated vegetarian tasting menus. This shift reflects a broader French movement toward sustainable eating, but Lille adds its own northern warmth and generosity to every plate.

Whether you are a strict vegan, a curious flexitarian, or simply someone who loves good food, this guide will help you navigate the best options. We have focused on places that prioritize fresh, seasonal produce and offer a genuinely welcoming atmosphere. Each recommendation has been chosen for its consistency, originality, and ability to please even the most skeptical diners at the table.

Below, you will find ten standout addresses that represent the diversity of Lille’s vegetarian dining landscape. They range from quick lunch counters perfect for a midday break to intimate dinner spots ideal for a special occasion. Use this list as a starting point to explore a side of Lille that many visitors miss.

I just got a sweet and a coffee to go but it was sooo delicious, perfect combo of crumbly and creamy! Also the staff was very friendly and the food on the tables looked amazing
Angelos Bollas★★★★★
Great food, service, and ambience. Menu changes weekly (which is great). Lovely dogs in the premises which give the place a great homey feel. Perhaps an a/c would be good indoors. The city is too hot and humid.
Andreea-Anca Sin★★★★★
I loved the place! Food is absolutely delicious, especially the desserts! If you are guilty as charged when it comes sweets, this is the place for you! Staff was very nice and extremely polite. The ambiance was cosy and friendly. Of course, the beautiful dogs chilling around made it even better! Big, fat 5 stars from me. I will definitely come back. Keep up the good work! 🌱

Very difficult to find good vegan places in France compared to other European counties so this was a gem. Delicious penne and dessert was good, completely vegan. Service was a bit slow but it was busy.
Knut Øye Brandsås★★★★★
We were four people to dine there, and it was an amazing experience. We had a sweet potato soup for starter, and it could have been slighly more seasoned, but still very tasty. For main we had a typical French dish and a burger. The burger is one of the best burgers I've had in a very, very long time, and the parmentier was tasty as well, having a nice touch of thyme. The chocolate mousse for dessert was delicious and airy. They had extremely high-level local beer there, which I have been missing at vegan and vegetarian restaurants (not to talk about many restaurants like that not having alcohol at all). It was probably the best beer I've ever had at a vegan place. Marvellous! They did not have decaf, but they had something that was not coffee, that was without caffeine and tasted surprisingly similar, but I don't remember the name. The staff is incredibly friendly, smiling and welcoming. The place was packed, so they were very busy, but they still had time to take care of us and answer our questions. Last but not least, they have three dogs walking around inside, and they're just the cutest! This place is a must if you're in Lille!!

This restaurant is a great choice for both vegetarians and vegans. The atmosphere is cozy and aesthetically pleasing, creating a warm and inviting environment. The presentation of the food is excellent, and everything tasted delicious. However, I found one entrée to be a bit too salty for my liking, but everything else was absolutely delightful. The staff is also friendly and cheerful, which added to the overall positive experience.
Angelos Bollas★★★★★
A very cosy vegan restaurant. Friendly staff, always available to help and answer questions. Service was quick. Beer of the day was excellent, and so was the risotto (perhaps, the aubergine could have been cooked in less oil). I had a little cake for dessert which was also good, albeit too small. I will happily visit again.
Dan Davies★★★★★
The food was some of thr best vegan good ive ever had! The services was a little slow and had to find a member of staff to pay may bill, after waiting around 20 minutes. Once engaged though the staff were delightful and very helpful. I very mucb recommend this place if your a vegan or not. Truly delicious.

I personally don’t think the food was that great but my vegan friend loved hers 🤷‍♀️We both started with some dumplings, which were served very hot. For some reason that was a turnoff for me (versus room temperature). Anyway the sauce that accompanied it was tasteless so I barely ate the dish. My main of roasted sweet potatoes was plentiful and charred nicely but I get a bit gaggy with too much SP for some reason. That had a nice sauce with it. I saved half for takeaway. The food is plated nicely; we just had far better at Pickles earlier that day IMO.
Maria Araslanova★★★★☆
Even though winter vegetables is not my cup of tea, I liked my salad (except that fact that there was too much oil in it), and I was really full after eating it. The dishes of my friends tasted good as well. The dessert that I had taken was light (pear on the photo) and the one that my friend had taken was tasty also (banana bread). I just didn't like the fact that chairs were not really comfortable. The staff was friendly and helpful.

We went here for dinner and had the last table. Worth reserving, as spaces are limited! Lovely and quick service despite how busy it was, and the food was good and very reasonably priced. The tagine was probably the best of the three dishes we'd ordered. Good selection of vegan options.
Mounica Kamesam★★★★★
Gorgeous romantic little restaurant in Lille, France! My friend and I stumbled upon this restaurant and I’m glad to have dined here. They have lots of vegetarian options (I got a tikka curry with falafel and quinoa, my friend ordered a cheesy chicken and rice dish), and we also split a chocolate mousse at the end. Highly recommend coming here for a nice meal at the end of a long travel day or sightseeing.

Great vegetarian dinner in the centre of Lille! Tasteful, fresh food exquisitely prepared 🥗🥙 Kind and attentive staff! Will definitely come back.

It was just so excellent. Shot out to the owners. They were so welcoming! The food went beyond my expectations. Will return someday 🥺

Again, please remember the rating, 3 stars means that expectations based on the cuisine, level of sophistication, value for money, etc are met After wondering through the city trying to find a place to have dinner, this was a very pleasant surprise. The restaurant is no a thrills place, simple, small and well decorated. The waiter was very friendly and honest and advised us well. We had the salmon lasagne and a salad (nothing ove the top) but we really enjoyed so it did actually exceed out expectations. The price was very reasonable

Such a lovely place with heart and friendly service! The food was delicious, we went during Braderie de Lille and had the best moules-frites there. Definitely recommend for a very warm and lovely atmosphere!
Rebecca Gibson★★★★★
Absolutely delightful meal. The chocolate mouse was amazing. Served was super helpful and really friendly. 100% recommended if you fancy something a little different or vegan or just a good bottle of wine

So, so good. We found Pickles 3 years ago & have been coming here ever sonce - albeit only once s year our annual pilgrimage to Lille tlfor a hockey tournament. Very popular with visitors and locals. Definitely recommend booking in advance as people were queuing to get in on a Thursday night. Owners/staff are lovely, attentive and the food is wonderful. The smoked haddock starter was superb (see photo)

Phenomenal lunch. Although service took a while, the food was so good, it was all worth it. We split the brocamole which was PHENOMENAL. I had the halloumi and my friend had the pasta with crème of courgette.

Tasty food that caters well for dietary requirements. My partner enjoyed the quiche, and I had a plant-based soup. The cookie and coffee afterwards were the highlight, and the staff were kind to relocate us to the sofas by the window.

Beautiful restaurant, kind and helpful staff. The food was perfect, light and delicious. The staff helped us navigate our food considerations (gluten-free/dairy-free, and vegan) Lovely experience, highly recommend

Very cute place with friendly staff. Prices are great. The food itself was good but not great. The soup was bland and the chocolate cake was not as expected

In short, here is gem of Lille. It is located a bit away from the center but it’s worth to go here. I came here alone and I was the first lunch customer. The owner was so friendly and had passion for its menu, explained in detail and service was very satisfying. I ordered soup and vegan menu and I could feel they use fresh and organic ingredients. If you go to Lille, I definitely recommend here❣️
Julian Sutton★★★★★
Great restaurant, so good we went back a couple of days later for another lunch. Recommend booking as first visit had to wait for a table, but we were made very welcome and had a drink whilst waiting. Good tasty food with vegan and gluten free options available. Can recommend the red wine as well. Friendly and helpful staff.

Randomly sat down here for shadow and drinks. Then I saw the food and it looked very good and fresh. I ordered Mediterranean pita without onion and with halloumi, and the Caribbean smoothie with strawberry, pineapple and coconut. It was absolutely DELICIOUS. So fresh, healthy, juicy, tasty, just absolutely perfect. 👌 Staff is also very friendly and the toilet is clean.
Elin Bootsma★★★★★
Really tasty food. You can choose whatever you want in your Pita. Fresh and plenty of vegetables to choose from. Would go again.
Hilda N.★★★★★
We came here for lunch after a walk and this restaurant really surprised us. At first, it seemed crowded and noisy, but after about 10 minutes, it quickly passed as people mostly ordered food and went outside to eat. What I really liked was that there were ordering boards, which is very convenient if you're shy (or don't know how) to speak or order in French. The staff is very friendly, one of them speaks English very well and is always smiling. It's obvious they're used to serving not only locals but also tourists. The food arrived quite quickly, even with the huge influx of orders during the lunch rush hour! The pita was delicious, with a cute "Bon Appetit" message on the wrapper, which I thought was very sweet. I really like that you can create your own pita with/without any ingredients (you can even choose the sauce and cheese!). I give my visit a definite 5* rating.

Smallest Bowl ever for 16€ !!! Bowl not even full, far from it, on the picture I didn’t hate anything, and there is room for the double than I had. I highly NOT recommend to go there. It is a SCAM.

We were in a rush to catch a train and popped into Pepita. The staff were incredibly sweet and welcoming, and they prepared our food very quickly. Everything was delicious—nutritious, flavorful, and great value for the money. We’d love to come back. Highly recommended!

Albedo is a place with a clear message and vibe. There’s posters about veganism, a cute bio corner for kids and a DJ installation for music nights. While our visit was short you could feel the place had soul. I’m sure that they’re great hosts and love to organise events for their community. However, the food lacked the soul that the location has. There was little depth in flavours, the time it took to prepare did not translate into complexity and the plating did nit invite to take pictures. Cooking vegan is hard, I know. I’m in the plant based business for seven years now and have served food from large caterings to Tomorrowland and promoted plant-based food on TV. So I know how much weight we carry to convince people to try this. But these dishes did not inspire me. I advice the chef, from a good place, to find a cooking book that speaks to their soul, the one thats clearly there in their restaurant. Cooking is a journey and I wish you the best. Experiment, go bold, try different ingredients. And make our plant based community proud!
Joris★★★★★
Albedo Kitchen proofs that vegan food can be super tastfull. They have a small menu, but nice starters and I really like the curry for main course. The whole meal felt very healthy and nutritious. The staff is friendly and dedicated to good food. If one thing I didn't find pleasant, it would be the simple lightbulbs, which personally I think make the atmosphere less friendly. All and all definitely recommended.
Mary Mamian★☆☆☆☆
We waited 30 minutes for really bad, unseasoned, purple potatoes and a salad. The salade was just unseasoned cabbage with a couple of walnuts and cocktail saus. While waiting, we got our coffee, which was a washed out cappuccino. I can't remember the last time I had a coffee so bad. After the bad coffee, I had hoped the food would have been more enjoyable from looking at the pictures on Google Maps. But it was really dissapointing... Hopefully you guys will be better in the future! But not recommending this place, sadly...

We had a lovely evening at Albedo kitchen during our stay in Lille ☺️ Diane was really nice & friendly, the food was really tasty and we enjoyed the atmosphere! I particularly liked the chocolate mousse with chia seeds (and the Lupin drink!!) ☺️ Lovely vegan place with great values!

Both Lewis and Diane are extraordinarily knowledgeable about raw vegan nutrition and tailor thier wisdom to every individual dish & customer, everything is organic and vegan, 100% try their smoothies as they absolutely stunning! I was told Tigermilk is a great place for Mexican food. So I went there and ordered huevos rancheros as I frequent Mexico frequently. I then saw the fine print 'Mexican inspired', and the food was so awesome I didn't even mind that it wasn't traditional Mexican food. I loved everything, and the staff were super. I gave the kitchen staff many thanks and thumbs ups. Thank you, Lindy from Spokane, Washington, living and working in Mons, Belgium. MAKE A RESERVATION FOR BRUNCH!
cenk ergen★★☆☆☆
Given the strict cancellation fee policy during reservation, our expectations were quite high; unfortunately, the overall experience fell short. There is a noticeable inconsistency across the menu: Salmon: 5/5 – By far the best dish of the evening, perfectly prepared. Ceviche: 4/5 – Very fresh, flavorful, and nicely balanced. Chicken (Pollo): 1/5 – Three of us ordered chicken dishes, and none of us enjoyed it. It was well below average and brought down the experience for most of the table. Desserts were generally delicious. We encountered an issue with one of them, but the manager handled it professionally, corrected the problem, and removed it from the bill, which was appreciated. However, with such high standards and strict reservation policies, the kitchen should deliver consistent quality across all mains.
Nahid Iqbal★★★★★
Best atmosphere in all the restaurants in this area and the food was perfectly delicious. Great service too. Very attentive without being too in your face.

Ok I have read the review before me and I am not Mexican but we have been to Mexico before. The food is indeed Mexican inspired but nice and tasty. Our kids loved it, nice drinks and lovely atmosphere. Make sure you make a reservation because it gets crowded and not having a reservation means being disappointed.

Enjoyed a lot! The food is as good as its looks. We had chicken tacos, guacamole, ceviche and quesadillas, everything was very good. A great option for diner in Lille.

Lots of vegetarian and vegan options. The very hard working lady at the bar took time to explain things to us and to make adaptions to a vegetarian dish to make vegan. Very nice place, popular for a reason and in an interesting part of town with lots going on at night. Great place, great value.

Went on a Friday (I think) and we were looking forward to trying some of their vegetarian options, but we walked a long ways to get there ... surprise... no food being served. So we were deeply disappointed. But we had a round of beers and enjoyed the atmosphere then went somewhere else for food. It would have been nice to know that the menu was canceled prior to walking over there.

Practical Tips for Enjoying Vegetarian Dining in Lille

Navigating a French city as a vegetarian can feel daunting, but Lille’s dining culture is more flexible than you might expect. These practical tips will help you eat well, avoid common pitfalls, and discover hidden gems beyond the main tourist streets. A little preparation goes a long way in ensuring every meal is a pleasure rather than a compromise.

First, learn a few key French phrases such as “Je suis végétarien(ne)” (I am vegetarian) or “Sans viande ni poisson” (without meat or fish). While many younger servers speak English, making an effort in French shows respect and often leads to better recommendations. Be specific about whether you eat dairy, eggs, or fish, as French definitions of vegetarian can sometimes be loose.

Second, do not skip the markets. Lille’s Wazemmes market, held on Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday mornings, is a treasure trove of seasonal vegetables, local cheeses, and freshly baked bread. Even if you are staying in a hotel without a kitchen, you can assemble a memorable picnic with produce from small growers. This is also a great way to experience the city like a local.

Third, look beyond the word “vegetarian” on signage. Many traditional estaminets, the cozy taverns typical of northern France, will happily prepare a plate of regional vegetables, fries, and salad if you ask. The key is to choose restaurants that cook from scratch rather than chains with pre-made menus. A willingness to ask questions often unlocks off-menu possibilities.

Fourth, reserve ahead for dinner, especially on weekends. The best vegetarian-friendly spots in Lille are often small and fill up quickly with both locals and tourists. A quick phone call or online booking ensures you are not left wandering hungry at 8 p.m. This is particularly important if you are traveling with a group.

Fifth, embrace the French dining rhythm. Lunch is often a simpler, faster affair with excellent value fixed-price menus, while dinner is more leisurely. Eating your main meal at midday can save money and give you more energy for exploring. Many of the city’s best vegetable-focused dishes appear on lunch menus that change daily.

Finally, do not be afraid to mix casual and upscale experiences. A simple falafel wrap from a market stall can be just as memorable as a multi-course vegan tasting menu. Lille’s charm lies in its contrasts, and the vegetarian scene reflects that beautifully. Trust your instincts and let your appetite guide you.

The vegetarian restaurants in Lille are not just for vegetarians; they are for anyone who appreciates thoughtful cooking and genuine hospitality. The chefs behind these addresses are proving that plant-based cuisine can be rooted in French tradition while still feeling modern and exciting. Whether you live here or are just visiting for a weekend, these tables offer a fresh perspective on northern French food.

As the city continues to evolve, new vegetarian and vegan spots open regularly, so keep an eye out for pop-ups and food festivals. The best way to experience Lille’s food culture is to walk, ask questions, and stay curious. Bon appétit.
