15 Best Seafood Restaurants in Biarritz

Biarritz may be famous for its surf breaks and Belle Époque grandeur, but its culinary tide has turned decisively toward the ocean’s bounty. The city’s dining scene is anchored by a deep Basque heritage, where fresh catches meet piquant espelette pepper and rich, garlicky sauces. From Michelin-starred institutions to unassuming port-side shacks, the variety here is staggering.

Choosing where to eat in this coastal gem can feel overwhelming, especially when every narrow street in Les Halles seems to waft out the scent of sizzling garlic and grilled fish. The best tables in town range from elegant dining rooms overlooking the Grande Plage to casual terraces where sandy feet are not just tolerated but expected. Understanding the landscape is key to unlocking an unforgettable meal.

The local seafood culture is defined by immediacy. Line-caught hake, turbot, and spider crab arrive daily at the fish auctions in the neighboring ports of Saint-Jean-de-Luz and Capbreton. Chefs here treat these ingredients with a reverence that leans heavily on tradition, yet many are unafraid to inject modern flair into classic Basque recipes.

While Biarritz has its fair share of tourist traps, the restaurants that earn their stellar reputations do so through consistency and sourcing. Whether you are looking for a plateau of oysters paired with a crisp Irouléguy blanc or a hearty tuna marmitako stew, the city delivers. It is a destination where the phrase "catch of the day" is not a marketing gimmick but a daily reality.

This guide navigates the best of the best, curated for quality, atmosphere, and authenticity. We have focused on establishments that locals trust and visitors rave about, ensuring you spend less time researching and more time savoring. Each recommendation offers a distinct take on the Atlantic’s riches.

Before we dive into the specific restaurants that define Biarritz’s seafood supremacy, it is worth noting that reservations are essential, particularly during the summer months. The best kitchens here operate with limited covers to ensure quality, and tables with ocean views disappear weeks in advance.

Excellent! Spare yourself the tourist traps from the town with fake 4,6 - 4,7 reviews and come eat here fresh fish and seafood with actual taste. Sardines are a must 10/10, Dorada is a must 10/10, Paella just a tiny bit dry, but still extremely tasty. Service exceptional, if you don t find a spot on the terrace, the inside is just as beautiful.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ A fantastic seafood restaurant in Biarritz! Everything was excellent. The oysters were outstanding, the seafood was incredibly fresh, and the wine list offered a great selection at reasonable prices. Friendly service and a wonderful atmosphere. It’s a very popular place, so I would recommend booking a table in advance. We came without a reservation and were lucky to get a table. Highly recommended if you’re looking for fresh, high-quality seafood in Biarritz.

Absolutely delicious – Chez Albert has instantly become our favorite place in Biarritz! Reservations are essential; we even saw a line of people waiting with bookings. Unfortunately, we couldn’t get a table on the terrace, but even inside the atmosphere was warm and very pleasant. The food was outstanding from start to finish – from the platter of oysters to the Saint-Pierre fish, every dish was exceptional. The dessert made with wild strawberries was unforgettable, a perfect ending to the meal. Service was excellent – attentive, friendly, and professional. Overall, it was simply divine: incredibly tasty food, wonderful atmosphere, and a place we’ll be coming back to again and again. Truly a masterpiece of dining in Biarritz!

We didn’t book in advance, that can have been part of the problem. We got a hot and smelly table inside the restaurant, not at the terrace. The staff was really nice all the time. We ordered a fish carpaccio as a starter, that one was very good. The mains were 2 dishes of fish and 1 dish of meat. The fish dishes looked good, but surprisingly the fish didn’t taste anything… The meat was good according to my daughters. My advice is to book in advance at the terrace. It is not worth to be inside. It is an expensive restaurant and you are paying the location more than the food.

We ate superbly — the best paella ever, even better than in Valencia 😁 The service was excellent despite the big crowd, 10/10 😉 the three of us ate.

Famous location, very busy. Long queue. The service was nice and friendly without going beyond what is regular. The food was hearty as expected and price were reasonable. Main wow factor is the view and harbour location.

Well worth the search. We went here for a dinner. It took us a while before we eventually found it. It was well worth the search. You hd to go down the stairs from The main road. Food was deliciously fresh. I ask the waiter what white wine he would recommend. He suggested the Les Sardines. It was good to go with the sea foods and amazingly quenched our thirst. Price was good. Despite arriving at 2115, the sea view was still amazing. It would be divine to dine here at sunset. It wad an amazing meal that did not break the bank. Of course, it is highly recommended. Merci to the amazing staff. See you again some time.

This is a good place for lunch at the sea! The octopus salad was great. The prawns were fresh from the grill, but someone a little bit bitter. One of the waitresses was pretty unfriendly. The other was really sweet.
Katie Floyd★★★★☆
We are here twice in one weekend as we enjoyed the views and the food. My husband in coeliac so we needed GF options. The staff were helpful with this and most of the mains were available. The main meals are quite basic but done well. Staff were friendly. We had to queue on the second night for approx 20 mins as there are no reservations, but then we were served quickly.
Pablo Recharte Bosa★★★★☆
Top food for price. Good portions of great quality home made cooking. The view is great and the familial ambiance as well. Could have been an easy 5 stars but they didnt accomodate us 10min before opening to just let us feed our baby sitted while waiting (its an open space and tables are available at the port)

We visited this restaurant with our family and had a very enjoyable dinner. The food was delicious, creative, and beautifully prepared. The oysters were outstanding—fresh and full of flavor. We also really enjoyed the foie gras, which was one of the highlights of the meal. The kitchen truly deserves high praise, and we would definitely recommend this restaurant for its cuisine. The only reason we are not giving a perfect rating is the outdoor dining experience. We visited on a warm, windless evening, and there were no fans or water misting systems to make the terrace more comfortable. It became quite hot and stuffy, especially for families with children. In addition, guests were smoking at the neighboring tables, which made the air feel even heavier and less pleasant. If you visit, we would recommend asking for one of the tables on the edge of the terrace, where there is more airflow and less chance of being affected by cigarette smoke. Overall, the food was excellent, and we would gladly come back.

Absolutely amazing experience! The quality of the dishes is incredible, everything was delicious and prepared with great care. A truly recommended place with excellent food and very kind staff. Top quality, wonderful atmosphere… we loved it! 🤍
Steven Damalas★★★☆☆
This was one of our least favorite culinary experiences of our visit to Basque Country. We decided to sit outside to enjoy the evening air. Bad move. We were surrounded by no less than 12 smokers at surrounding tables who basically took rotating turns of 4 or 5 of smoking during their meals. Our food was mediocre. My lady's razor clams were overcooked, as was my rack of lamb. It was not fatality overcooked. But it showed poor attention to detail in the kitchen. The dessert was a tasting of four items and was decent. But all in all, I would just move on.
Simen Sørbø★★★★☆
Area and the location is great. You can’t go wrong. If you want seat outside you might need to wait a bit but it is worth it.

We went with 7 friends. The interior of the restaurant is beautiful decorated. The food is delicious. The service is good. The staff are very friendly. Only some of them seem unfriendly. 😅 But overall, all the staff are lovely. We can't speak French, but the person who served us she spoke English and provided excellent service. She were friendly and smiling. Every dish was delicious. The desserts were delicious, especially the cheese tart. However, the wait for the food and dessert was very long. The washroom is clean. There are 2 upstairs and downstairs.

This restaurant is run by a well-coordinated team. They serve almost exclusively Basque dishes, Basque beers, Basque liqueurs and further drinks. And yes, the name says it all: This restaurant specialises in excellent fish and octopus dishes. They also serve excellent burgers made from high-quality meat as well as children’s meals. Thank you very much! I am coming back!
Elena Aleksandrova★★★★★
We had a wonderful experience at this restaurant. Everything was excellent — the food was delicious, beautifully prepared, and full of flavor, and the staff was polite and welcoming. I especially enjoyed the hake steak with chorizo and sun-dried tomatoes, served with mashed potatoes — it was perfectly cooked and very tasty. The only thing worth mentioning is that the service was not particularly fast, and we had to wait a little longer than usual. However, if you are in good company, this is hardly a downside — it simply gives you more time to enjoy the atmosphere. Overall, highly recommended!
Ida Bokat★★★★★
Great restaurant with beautiful views and even better service. We originally tried to walk into the restaurant next door for lunch however they declined us and I’m glad they did as octopus was 10/10. I had the beef tartare which tasted delicious paired with a glass of red wine from Bordeaux and my partner had a burger which he thoroughly enjoyed. Highly recommend this great establishment and we’ll be back next time we’re in town.

I don’t think I’ve ever had a mixed plate of seafood so well cooked and seasoned. Wasn’t too oily as can often be the case. Absolutely perfect. Washed down with some nice white wine. What a delight with views out to the ocean. Service was quick and friendly. Thanks !

We arrived around 11:30 and were greeted and we asked if it were possible to get a drink before lunch and she answered yes and we were seated. Then the staff all sat down to lunch and ignored us so we left after ten minutes. We did not expect to be able to eat but have a drink before lunch there when they are supposedly open from 10:30AM.
Jean-Claude “Bisi” BISENIUS★★★★★
What an absolute delight, the welcoming host was disarmingly charming and all other members of staff (albeit very busy) were eager to make us feel welcome. The food was really good too, if you can, try the Fantastik! with "!".

The food and the view outstanding. We had seafood and fish, very fresh, tasty and beautifully served. If you drive there, go to the car park which is just in front. Parking on the street is rather impossible. The lady at the reception very nice, the waiter a bold shaved pal very nice, humorous and professional. The rest of the people were not really nice or attentive, they were a bit rude. That’s why 4* for the service.
Chris Nigro★★★★★
Our girls had the chicken dish and one of them said this is the best chicken I have ever had. I had a great fish dish and my wife had the tuna tartar but it was a little too heavy on the wasabi but still full of flavor. Presentation was amazing. Wine pours were a little small but the price per glass was also less than other restaurants we had been to.
K E★★★★★
Four of us dined here for lunch on Oct 15 and while portions were not overly large they certainly were sufficient if sharing some tapas, each having an entre, followed by dessert. Staff were welcoming and attentive without being intrusive. All the dishes were delicious.

I had the escalope for stater then the lobster for main course. I will order disserte in a minute but wanted to write a review right now because I am so excited to post my review before I head out. This was a very tasty meal, one of the best I’ve had in Biarritz although I have come here 3 times a year regularly and always dined.

Very good food and services. My boyfriend and I had dinner at this restaurant. For me, our dinner was the most delicious food that I had ever eaten in France. Thanks to the chef for our wonderful dinner. And the service person could speak English very well and his hospitality was admirable too. If we return to Biarritz again, for sure, we will return to this restaurant again.
San San Tso★★★★☆
Vegetarian plate was ⭐️⭐️ only. Tasted only bitter veggie and boring taste overall. My bf hamburger he said was good but the French fries were not crispy enough. Peppers and potatoes starters were good.
Lynsey Hewson★★☆☆☆
We were recommended this place for atmosphere, service and food. We received none of that. I wasn't going to leave a review but this is the second email sent from the restaurant asking for a review. The service was not great, felt we were an inconvenience and any request was eye-rolled at. The main issue was the food we received having asked for it to be medium and the comment from the waitress was "you want it a little pink" which would be perfect yes, not what was received - purple. It was sent back along with a fillet that was the same. We got it back cooked as 'medium', but sides were not replenished so we asked for more fries to go with our food and were charged for. To top it off another couple who seemed to know the chef and waitress were talking at the bar and my friend would have some French and it is understood they were talking about 'the Irish', and looking over at us. We couldn't get out of there quick enough it was very uncomfortable and rude service. We also noted on the booking it was for a birthday celebration clearly nothing was offered to mark this event. The worst dining experience we had in Biarritz unfortunately 😔
Jack Evans★★★★★
The atmosphere may be informal and convivial but the quality of the food, especially the fish, is outstanding. Our bream and tuna were beautifully presented and cooked. Crunchy, fresh vegetables were included in the reasonable price of the mains.
Jacek Lasota★★★☆☆
The food is delicious, but the portions are too small. It is a joke; you have to choose between vegetables and french fries. Remember to go for french fries.

Everything was mediocre. Good location and a charming waiter, but the food was mediocre. We ordered three dishes: the calamari had an impossible texture (with the strangest mayonnaise I've ever been served). It looked as if several had been defrosted and refrozen. The eggs with anchovies were disappointing, and the chipirones... Just okay. The only really good thing was the mashed potato they brought as a side dish for I don't know what (and they brought later). At least the waiter was very friendly and the location was nice.
Lara★☆☆☆☆
My friend ordered the white fish tartare, and unfortunately it contained a live worm. The waiter handled the situation politely and removed the dish from the bill, which we appreciated. However, the experience was quite unsettling, and we were unable to continue with the rest of our meal.

A Hidden Gem We’re So Glad We Found We accidentally stumbled upon Le Corsaire during an afternoon walk through Biarritz, and it turned out to be one of the most memorable meals of our entire trip. Tucked away with stunning views over the water, it immediately had that “secret local spot” feeling—and it only got better from there. From the moment we sat down, our server made us feel genuinely welcome. There was this warm, friendly energy that set the tone for the whole evening—attentive without being rushed, kind without being scripted. It felt like we were being hosted rather than simply served. The food was absolutely incredible. We shared the grilled shrimp, which were perfectly seasoned and impossibly fresh, followed by a beautifully cooked fresh fish that tasted like it had come straight from the ocean that morning. Paired with an amazing bottle of French white wine, everything came together into one of those effortless yet unforgettable meals. And the views… breathtaking. Between the setting sun, the sound of the waves, and the relaxed atmosphere, it felt like a postcard come to life. We’re so happy we happened upon this place by chance. Le Corsaire truly is a hidden gem—one we’ll be recommending to anyone visiting Biarritz and one we’ll definitely return to.
Glenn Wong★★★★★
Service was IMPECCABLE. The host just noticed my wife being slightly chilly and without a word brought her a blanket. He put me to shame but wow that was thoughtfulness at its finest. Food was tasty. Ordered the pavé thon blanc. Had a tasty crust which I did not expect.
John Doe★★★★☆
Great meal in Biarritz. Most folks will queue for the line to Casa Jean Pedro which is also good but honestly you'll be seated much faster and the food is legit delish. We had the grilled razor clams which were the highlight of our entire trip - so good. Then I had the paella yum and she had the tuna tartar - also great. Very cheap and cheerful, service in point in a great location. Highly recommend and would go back and I will!

Everything is fresh and the owner and staff are unusually nice. Prices are very reasonable. I like the moules marinieres . I have been going here for over a year and today was the first Sunday I went for lunch. They have Paella on Sunday and it was as good as my mother in law's Andalusian cook used to make. I know what a good paella is and this was superb.

Dinner at Marloe, located in the outskirts of the city in an austere modern building with the interior a bit more modern, expansive and cold than we expected from such a highly rated French Bistro. Luckily the food and service made up for the visual let down. The Chickpea soup, Scallops, and seafood Cannelloni were well prepared and presented.
Molly Boyd★★★★★
My sister and I went on a quick trip to Biarritz from San Sebastián and we’re recommended Marloe. We enjoyed the tasting menu with wine pairing and were beyond impressed. We loved every dish and were so satisfied with the service. We would give this 10 stars if we could!
Tim Wong★★★★★
A perfect dinner experience with great decor and atmosphere, polite service and awesome food. I had the autumn velouté soup with chestnuts and mushrooms, the chef’s signature lobster with its bisque and risotto, and the crepes suzettes (which was made from scratch and the steps explained to me). Overall definitely highly recommend, I only had 1 night’s stay in Biarritz and felt very fortunate I got to dine here! Thanks to the whole team at Marloe for a great dinner.
Eric Beydoun★★★★★
Great experience, food and service at Le Marloe Biarritz. We ordered a number of appetizers, entrees, drinks, and desserts, and were blown away by all of them. Of course I personally had to try the Xmas specialty of the moment Volail with truffle and foie gras. I've never eaten such a moist piece of chicken. The customer service was exceptional and the chefs specialty the "Omar" was bursting with flavor. A must, if you're ever in Biarritz.

Absolutely exceptional 👌 the greatest service and accomodation I experienced in Biarritz. Not a single dish disappointed, they were all very exciting, but the carpaccio was the most memorable. If in Biarritz, this place should be amongst your top selection.

I’ve ordered three large plateaux for take away. The communication, the order - everything went easily and efficiently. Friendly and helpful service. Perfect quality of seafood. Thank you

Grabbing oysters and wine from this spot is a must while in Biarritz. The dozen oysters plus house white wine was such a refreshing lunch — the oysters were unbelievable, especially for the price. Make sure to stop in before noon, as they often sell out!
Youngmahn Moon★★☆☆☆
The food is good because the products are fresh but the service is so slow and inefficient. Had to wait 40 mins for some clams that take 5 mins on the plancha. Saw them lose tickets multiple times with people having to tell them what they paid for. The long line is not worth it, just go to the other vendor next to them, L'écaillerie. The products are the same and service is faster.
Libby★★★★☆
The seafood looked very fresh, it was very difficult understanding the menu with our limited French. We had to wait awhile as there was only one person working at the store. We tried the prawns and crab claw, and would love to try the mussels next time as well. The prawns were very sweet. They provide a seating area for you in the market which is very nice and bring the food over to you.
Viv King★★★★★
We found this place after the recommendation of the local tour guide. It's tucked into the local market. The staff were friendly, some speak English, as we are terrible with our French. Food is fresh, we just point and order to things we want and let the chef put their skills to cook the food the local way. Oysters were very fresh and yummy. There are dinning table across the stand but also overflow area on the 2nd floor. Will definitely return with the yummy seafood!

Very friendly and quick service. The presentation of the food is very good and the atmosphere is nice! The food itself is decent, but still a tiny bit rough around the edges. The intestines of the crevettes were not removed, some of the chips (fries) were not cooked so well and the squid tentacle was a bit dry. I am not saying the food was bad, this is critique on a high level, but this is what takes a star away for me.

A really great experience at Chez BB: Bistroquet Biarritz. The hot dog and monkfish tail were delicious. We also had calamari as a starter — highly recommend it 🙂 The service was excellent, and the waiters spoke English 🫶 Definitely recommend visiting! 🇺🇦

Excellent sand quick service when ordering Moules Frite. They came pretty small but don't let the size fool you, they were delicious. Soft and delicate, moules marinière we're everything we expected. This came with fries and bread. A comment on the fries, very good! Unusual size and seasoned with paprika, would definitely come back here for this dish, or try a new one! I've been coming to Biarritz a long time and there's always been a restaurant here, don't remember if it was always Chez Bibi but we recommend a visit. Don't be in a rush, enjoy the ambiance and French food!

Only restaurant that serves food after 2:30pm. Great location. Service was super nice and was helpful to find vegetarian options.

We really enjoyed our time at the restaurant. Beautiful setting, great staff, food was outstanding. We went for 2 starters, pastrami and nachos. They were both amazing. My beer was good too. If we are back in Biarritz we will defeat there again. Thanks

The most amazing Caesar salad!!! Really good big size, perfect chicken, light dressing- a dream. Giant Cookie is to die for also! Really rich vanilla ice cream and really big gooey cookie. Vibes are great but staff could be a little friendlier.

This is a great place to watch the sunset while dining. The food itself was pretty good. The cod was very tasty, but one could‘ve gotten more out of the lobster pasta. Our waiter was a friendly, funny and patient. All in all, a pretty good place if you want a nice ambiance at the beach.

Best escargot and hake we have had in France on this trip. The cocktails we had before dinner were really excellent and the sommelier made great wine suggestions for dinner. Price was very reasonable for what all we had.

I ordered a salad and french fries from the menu as a main course and received the kitchen leftovers.. I had to call and ask the waiter if this was the salad, and he replied it was called “the salad of the day” when asked, bc it was looking like anything but a salad, instead it was consisting mainly out of stewed broccoli and cauliflowers (which was cut with a contaminated knife bc I could taste the shrimp out of it) hummus, and a not so fresh decorative salad leaf with cherry tomatoes on top… and the French fries? In oil soaked chunky potato wedges... The only thing nice was the ambience, now it has 2-3 hours passed since I had the dinner and my stomach is still upset. I don’t like leaving negative thoughts and reviews on the internet but as a vegetarian I felt very disappointed. So I wouldn’t recommend it if you are a strict vegan/vegetarian.

Essential Tips for Enjoying Seafood in Biarritz

Dining well in Biarritz requires a bit of local knowledge and timing. The rhythm of the town changes with the tides and the seasons, and knowing how to navigate the culinary culture will elevate your experience from good to extraordinary. Here are five key strategies to help you eat like a local and avoid common pitfalls.

1. Time Your Meal with the Market
The freshest seafood is often found at lunch, shortly after the morning markets close. If you are dining at a restaurant near Les Halles, the catch has often traveled only a few hundred meters. For a more relaxed experience, opt for a late lunch or an early dinner around 7:30 PM, as many kitchens close between 2:30 PM and 7:00 PM.

2. Trust the Daily Specials
In Biarritz, the chalkboard or verbal "suggestions du jour" should be your compass. Chefs buy based on what the boats bring in, not what a static menu dictates. If you see "merlu" (hake) or "chipirons" (baby squid) listed as a special, order it without hesitation—it is likely the best thing in the house that day.

3. Embrace the Basque Pairings
While white wine is a classic choice, do not overlook the local Txakoli, a slightly sparkling, high-acid white wine that cuts through the richness of fried fish perfectly. For heartier stews like marmitako, a light red from the Irouléguy region provides an unexpected but traditional match.

4. Look Beyond the Main Promenade
Restaurants directly facing the Grande Plage pay high rents for the view, and some compensate with inflated prices or frozen imports. Venture two or three streets back into the Saint-Charles or Port-Vieux neighborhoods. You will often find higher quality food, more attentive service, and better value for money.

5. Respect the Oyster Hours
Oyster shacks and seafood bars often have specific serving hours, usually from late morning until mid-afternoon and then again from early evening. These are not all-day dining spots. Arriving at 4:00 PM might find the lights off. Check the schedules of dedicated seafood bars, as they often close earlier than traditional restaurants.

Biarritz is a city that rewards the curious eater. Walking through the port at dawn, watching the fishermen unload their crates, and then sitting down to a meal that celebrates that very harvest is a ritual that defines the Basque coast. It is a place where the ocean is not just a backdrop but the primary ingredient in the city’s identity.

Ultimately, the best seafood experience here is one that balances respect for tradition with a sense of adventure. Do not be afraid to ask your server for the origin of the fish or how it is prepared—they are usually proud to tell you. With this guide in hand, you are well-equipped to navigate the vibrant, briny, and utterly delicious world of Biarritz’s seafood scene.
