15 Best Rooftop Bars in Bayeux

While Bayeux is world-renowned for its medieval tapestry and deep ties to Norman history, the town also knows how to unwind once the sun begins to set. Beyond the cobblestone lanes and timber-framed houses, a subtle but vibrant evening scene awaits those who know where to look.

Rooftop culture in Bayeux is less about towering skyscrapers and more about intimate terraces, first-floor verandas, and elevated garden patios. These spots offer a unique vantage point over the city’s iconic spires and slate rooftops.

For visitors who have spent the day touring the D-Day beaches or exploring the cathedral, a quiet drink with a view is the perfect reward. The local bar scene blends French wine tradition with a growing appreciation for craft cocktails and Norman ciders.

Because Bayeux is a compact town, many of the best elevated spaces are tucked away inside historic hotels or behind unassuming stone facades. You often need to wander through a lobby or climb a narrow staircase to find them.

This guide focuses on quality, atmosphere, and the authenticity of the experience rather than sheer height. Whether you are looking for a romantic sunset spot or a lively place to meet locals, there is a perch here for you.

Here are the best elevated drinking and dining terraces that capture the spirit of Bayeux from above.

The food was amazing, we had beef meatballs for starters and beef skewers and a burger for the main, the wine was excellent as well! However the service was really slow and the waiter was a bit rude to my mum! We waited at least an hour for our main course and we saw other tables be served before us! Would recommend that you go for the food if you’re not worried about waiting around
Mark Curran★★★★★
Absolutely amazing food a culinary five star experience, but the best thing of the night was the servers Louis Sarah and gasper
Dominic Eden★★★★★
Food was phenomenal, I had the chipirons which were served in a delicious herb, garlic and olive sauce, and then the magret de canard (duck breast) with dauphinoise potatoes. Both exceptional. Some of the best food I’ve eaten in France.
Freddy Mota★☆☆☆☆
The place looked nice. However, the staff was unfriendly leaving us standing there without greeting us, showing us to a table or even acknowledging our presence, or that of other two ladies also waiting. I would understand this if it would have been packed (it wasn't even close). After several minutes waiting and them walking by without greeting us, we left and found a fantastic place called Montmatre.

We called in here just for a beer, but decided to eat while we were there. I'm so glad we did, I can be a fussy/picky eater. And picking food off a foreign menu can be a challenge, but while on holiday I thought I'd give new things a try. Both me and my partner ordered a 3 course meal and we were both very happy with our meals. The food was amazing, well presented and tasty. The staff were also polite and happy to have a chat.
Stephen Cochrane★☆☆☆☆
Avoid. We went in and it was empty apart from what seemed like a group of regulars sitting by the door talking to the staff. They got our order wrong and basically ignored us all throughout and after the meal. We skipped dessert due to the lack of attention and left after paying. The most attentive thing in the place was the swarm of flies that made us leave the first table we were given by the window. The food we had was 'OK', but there are many better places close by.
Jolyon New★★★★★
We arrived near closing time but this did not stop the staff being cheery and helpful. Lovely food. Would highly recommend.

Loved this place. 🙂 We were 7 from the US and walked in after a long travel day and we all were served excellent bistro food in an informal atmosphere. Nice steaks. Large enough for large or small groups as there is also space upstairs. Well stocked bar. Merci Lucas!

Enjoyable evening. Staying locally at a bnb we lighted on La Terrasse. It was a great decision I don't mind practicing my French but our waiters excellent English helped with the finer points of the menu although I don't have any trouble ordering a great blue rump! My wife's salmon tagliatelle was equally good. A little out of the centre but well worth finding.

Happy that there was space here for our group of 8. Children shared a pizza and a portion of the nachos whilst husband and I went for a baked Camembert and potatoes. The Camembert was advertised as coming with bread but our dish also came with meat, which might upset someone non-meat eaters but we removed it and didn't affect our enjoyment of the meal. There was free WiFi which kept the kids entertained. Nice outdoor seating area.
monica pronzini★★★☆☆
The place is relaxed and really makes you feel on holiday at the seaside, with garden furnitureand wooden floors; the snacks were ok, but unluckily there was not all what was listed on the menu outside, the quiche was finished so it was difficult to make a second choice as the list was quite limited.
Abby Daniell★★★★★
Great spot for a drink/snack with comfortable couches and sun or shade seating options

What a fantastic find. It lives up to its name - what a perfect place to get the rest my back and legs needed after lots of walking round Bayeux (had to go back to car park about 10 mins away to extend my parking before coming back to the Tapestry Museum. Really lovely staff and although customers are constant, there's no being hurried to move on.
Caitlin Sauvey★★★★★
Not only did they prepare warm food quickly so late in the evening, they also went out of their way to help us find a local hotel when in a crunch. The food was amazing and portions were big. The outdoor seating was comfy and inviting. Absolutely no complaints. Loved it here!

Great bar, off of the main street. Feels like a locals bar or a bar for those that know! Good selection of beers, reasonably priced. Friendly staff. Will visit again.

My second time in Bayeux from Miami and I came back to this pub and it’s just like last year , great customer service, very good pizza and drinks. The atmosphere is amazing and they always show soccer games from the Champions league and Europa league. Cheers 🍻

Good place for a beer and a snack, beer price is on par for the area as is the food. Open early compared to some places and choice of draught beer is quite unique for France in my experience. English speaking staff which is useful if your french isn't too strong.

Pretty great and atmospheric bar, with occasional live music performances. Good beer taps. Pretty crowded, as there are not many straight bars in town.

We visited while in Bayeux searching for a wine bar. We specifically wanted wine tasting, but the tapas and boards here intrigued us. Overall, it was a great experience and I would recommend a visit. I appreciate the experience. We ordered some wine and the Norman mixed board. Some hits and misses for us with the meats. The cheeses were on point and the board was served with bread and butter. I capped the evening with a "French coffee" which was strong and sweet. Happy travels!
Ric Rini★★★★★
Stopped in for some cocktails and were surprisingly pleased at how well the cocktails were crafted. Not only do they have a pretty expansive list of crafted cocktails, but also a very well populated wine list that should satisfy the pallet of many . They have great small plates as well to satisfy your hunger. We had the salmon plate and it was exquisitely good exceeded our expectations . Service was friendly, accommodating, quick and helpful regarding the menu items.

Great location on the market place in Bayeux with outdoor seating on a terrace overlooking the square. Good service and nice ambience. HOWEVER- we had two kir royales and one beer and were charged an astonishing €38. No food. Having been impressed thus far by the prices in the bars and restaurants of Bayeux, this seemed outrageously overpriced. Be careful.
Plaxs★☆☆☆☆
Although the Atmosphere and Service was pretty good, the food was absolutely atrocious. We paid 125€ for 8 Cokes, 4 Fries and 3 dishes. We didn’t finish a single one and all felt like we were about to throw up from eating barely even the half of the dishes served. My brother threw up afterwards and even my father who has an Iron stomach felt like throwing up. It felt like we got a food poisoning. The Fries were barely even done, had bad seasoning and were black as if drenched in motor oil. If there was a way to give 0 Stars, I would.

This craft brewery on the edge of Bayeux makes great beer. We did not see the request to make a reservation but we were welcomed. We were offered several beers including an IPA and AMBREE. Both very good. Because we were not expected, we had the opportunity to compare fresh IPA from a bottle with older beer from the tap which was very interesting. They sometimes have live music and food so it would be a great place to spend an afternoon with friends
Jean Crampton★★★★★
This is a really cool, small brewery, which is well worth visiting. We contacted the owners through their website and arranged a visit - there were just four people on the tour, so very intimate. Franck, the owner/tour guide, kindly did the tour in English and French to accommodate everyone. The tour itself was very interesting. Franck was very generous with his time and with the beer tasting at the end. The beer itself is really tasty and we bought some to take home. Would highly recommend this.

What fantastic place and lovely fella called Frank who runs it. Hosted ten of us. Gave us tour of the brewery and tasting of all the beers and then gave us a lift into Bayeux. Beers are fantastic. If u in Bayeux you must drop in

A friendly bar with lovely staff. The food looked nice so we stayed for the 2 course menu for €16.95. Nice food with fresh ingredients and not a tourist trap.

Madame was very helpful and smiling. The Bergerie Salad and house Burger was tasty and the portion was large.
MERCEDES PAZ MORILLAS EXPOSITO★★★★☆
Small bar with 4 tables on the street. We had lunch with 5 people with a menu option for €16.50. The correct dishes with strong points and room for improvement. Strong points: the tuna with mayonnaise and avocado, the fries, the ceasar salad, the desserts. Room for improvement: the fish and chicken burgers in batter and frozen, the portion size (without the batter there is little left) and fries (lots, luckily they were very good!). To compensate for the very friendly and attentive service and the quiet place. Recommended for getting out of the way.

A delightful lunchtime at St Malo with the new owners. The set menu was excellent, featuring a choice cut of meat. The dessert was superb; the tiramisu was simply irresistible. Well done to the chef!

Valérie and Vincent, the new owners, are lovely and perfect for a coffee, a meal (brasserie-style service), or to buy tobacco, e-cigarettes, CBD, scratch cards, etc. Right in the heart of Bayeux.

Outstanding food. Clear flavors. Really fresh. Beautiful presentation. Excellent value for the overall quality. Our waiter was welcoming and friendly. Lovely dining room and indeed there is an alcove where we sat, very cozy. Upstairs for groups. The bathroom is very attractive and new. We were in Bayeaux 2 nights and I wish we had eaten here both nights.

Our lunch at this quaint Bayeux restaurant was simply delightful. The service and food were both impeccable, you could truly feel the owners' commitment to quality in every detail, right down to the fantastic bread sourced from a local boulangerie. It's no surprise they're a Michelin Bib Gourmand recipient; truly deserved! We were definitely happy we'd made our reservation in advance.

Very nice and clean place, beautiful interior, everything is of good quality. The owners are very nice French family. I like good coffee shops and this one is worth the title. (Even of there is no filter coffee or V60). Will be back

We are so glad we found Fleurette, a beautiful charming cafe on the corner in Bayeaux. The owner Charlene and her family are lovely, you can see how they prepare each dish with care, colorful and seasonal ingredients! Our new favorite place for a summer lunch, afternoon hang out or a catch up for a play date with the park near by. Favorite time on their menu was the quinoa! You’ll be sure to love this place and the people there too.

Wonderful new restaurant on the corner with a nice open setting. The food is primarily lighter cold plates but sooo tasty. It’s family run and extremely friendly. It’s a combination boutique and a restaurant! It’s also very new having been open for only four days! The environment is bright and clean with an eclectic decor given that they also sell furnishings and dish ware. The prices are very reasonable with our plates varying between 15 and 27 euro’s which includes a choice of desserts. If you want fresh, healthy and lighter fare, this is perfect!

If you’re in Bayeux, make sure to visit Cary, a delightful café and lunch spot that also sells local products. Run by the lovely Caro Remy, the place has a hip, beautifully designed interior—a rarity in France, in my opinion. It’s perfect for grabbing a bite, enjoying a drink, or even working a bit in a relaxed, stylish setting. Highly recommend stopping by!

Excellent value for money! €9.50 for a pint of Guinness where he scooped half out with a knife, changed the keg and filled the rest with the new keg. This couldn’t be further from an Irish bar and the big guy behind the bar shouldn’t be allowed to serve anyone. The lady was pleasant at least

After a couple of days in Bayeux, we learned if you want to go to a good place (or maybe just pick where you want to go) you have to start early or make reservations. We ended up here because it the first place we found after being 0/8 strolling down the street. The beer and cider was good, cash only and if you want to eat, visit one of the to go spots and bring it back: not ideal after a day of exploring. Relaxing outside was lovely. the pizza menu is for a place 2 doors down.

Great place for a beer and cider on tap. The couple who own the bar are friendly, helpful, and down to earth. They spent time talking with us English speaking Canadians and also gave great suggestions for tours. It was the first place we stopped when we got to Bayeux and we would definitely go back. I cannot speak about the food because we only had an afternoon drink.

We called in for a pint after walking all day. We were told it was cash only, the woman said they only accept amex! (Who does that?) We were told to go find a cash machine. Very rude. Fortunately the pints hadn't been pulled so we went elsewhere. Avoid this one.

We chose Le Quarante-Neuf for our visit to Normandy and the Bayeux surrounding areas. Everything was perfect! The room is spacious and has all you need. My wife and I mistakenly thought this was in Bayeux. We were just happy to get a reservation for our first night there without the ability to make a voice phone call or text. So we had quite the walk for 2 older folks but were so happy that we did it. This is unpretentious fine French dining. The service was very good and helpful. The food was perfectly prepared and beautifully presented. The surroundings were charming. Definitely worth leaving the bustle of central Bayeux and seeking it out.

Wow. What a delightful stay our family had at Auberge le 49. Chris welcomed us upon our arrival and answered our many questions before showing us our accommodations. We booked two rooms, the Azure and Brown rooms (for two couples). Both of those are above the main reception and breakfast areas, accessible via an outdoor spiral staircase, and are on the garden side of the property (nice and quiet). The Azure room was quite large with a sofa, small table, a queen bed and a big bathroom. The decor is very unique and tasteful. We had a space to hang clothes, some drawers, and a safe. There is no air conditioning and fans didn’t seem to be available (lost in translation?), but we had our own travel sized ones, plus the night temperatures were nice and cool during our visit. Breakfast consisted of fresh croissants, bread, jams, butter, yogurt, juice, and the most wonderful coffee made by Chris. On a couple of mornings, Chris was kind enough to ensure one of our group could exit the property for an early run. He is an excellent host, and asked every day if we needed anything and made sure that our family was taken care of. There are two dogs at the inn, but we hardly ever heard them, and they were very quiet at night. Our most memorable experience at Auberge 49 was the amazing dinner at the restaurant. Thank goodness our stay was during the evenings it was open, and that Chris made a reservation for us. The place was packed with non-staying guests and it’s no wonder. Each dish was a work of art and we were compelled to take photos of their masterpieces and we were even more excited to eat them. Hats off to the chef! I would definitely recommend staying at Auberge 49, and I highly encourage diners to enjoy a very special menu at the restaurant.

We had dinner with our friends that are traveling with us from the United States. The owner explained all of the options and shared some fantastic wine selections. We had a wonderful experience and the food and wine were excellent. Absolutely the finest restaurant around!

The dinner I had was so perfect. 3 courses of expertly prepared unique food. The service was top notch and the 17th century farmhouse location on the edge of Bayeux was so unique and inviting. I highly recommend this to anyone in the area looking for a reasonably priced but top end food.

To make the most of your evening out in Bayeux, it helps to understand the local rhythm and customs. Unlike major metropolitan cities, Bayeux operates on a more relaxed schedule, and the best seats often go to those who plan just a little bit ahead.

First, always check the weather forecast, as most of these spaces are partially or fully open-air. Normandy weather can shift quickly, and a light drizzle can turn a beautiful terrace into a closed section without much notice. Second, consider making a reservation if you are visiting during the peak summer months or on a weekend evening, especially if you want a table with a direct view of the cathedral. Third, embrace the local drinks; while many bars serve international cocktails, the true regional experience involves a crisp glass of Pommeau, a local cider, or a Calvados-based digestif. Fourth, arrive before sunset to watch the golden hour paint the limestone buildings, as this is when the views are most photogenic. Finally, remember that service in France is leisurely by design—don’t rush your drink, and simply ask for the bill when you are ready to leave.

As the evening winds down, the soft glow of street lamps begins to reflect off the wet cobblestones below, and the sound of conversation drifts up from the sidewalks. Bayeux is not a town that parties until dawn, but it offers something arguably better: a chance to slow down and savor a moment in a place steeped in history. A rooftop drink here feels less like a night out and more like a private view into the soul of Normandy.

Whether you are toasting to a successful day of sightseeing or simply enjoying the company of friends, the elevated terraces of Bayeux provide a memorable backdrop. So pick a spot, order something local, and let the view of the ancient skyline remind you why this small French town continues to capture the hearts of travelers from around the world.
