There is a distinct charm to the café culture in Reims. While the city is globally celebrated as the unofficial capital of the Champagne region, its coffee scene has quietly evolved into a vibrant tapestry of specialty roasters, traditional brasseries, and cozy hidden gems. For locals and travelers alike, the search for the perfect espresso or a leisurely brunch spot is an integral part of experiencing the rhythm of this historic city. Whether you are recovering from a morning of touring the grand Maisons de Champagne or seeking a quiet corner to work, Reims offers a diverse range of atmospheres to suit every mood.
Navigating the cobblestone streets near the Cathédrale Notre-Dame or the bustling Place Drouet d’Erlon, you will quickly notice that coffee here is no longer an afterthought. The modern wave of barista culture has arrived, bringing with it a focus on single-origin beans, alternative milk options, and minimalist Scandinavian-inspired interiors. Yet, this modern influx coexists beautifully with the traditional French establishments where the zinc bars are polished and the croissants are flaky. The result is a dynamic scene where heritage meets innovation.
Choosing where to sit down can be overwhelming, especially when you are pressed for time or your feet are tired from sightseeing. Some cafes specialize in the art of the French breakfast, while others pivot toward a more Australian or Anglo-Saxon brunch model, complete with avocado toast and poached eggs. Additionally, the rise of remote work has prompted many establishments to offer reliable Wi-Fi and quiet corners, making them perfect temporary offices. Understanding what you need from the space—be it fuel, food, or a place to rest—is key.
The geography of Reims plays a significant role in its café layout. The city center is highly walkable, meaning you can easily hop from a historic literary café to a modern micro-roastery within ten minutes. Areas like the Boulingrin district, with its covered market, have become hotspots for foodies looking for quality coffee paired with fresh local produce. Venturing slightly off the main drag often rewards you with lower prices and a more authentic, local crowd.
When evaluating the best cafes, we looked beyond just the quality of the roast. The criteria included the sourcing of the beans, the skill of the baristas, the ambiance, the quality of the food menu, and the level of service. We also considered the "je ne sais quoi"—that intangible atmosphere that makes you want to linger for a second cup. In Reims, that often involves a view of a historic monument or a particularly sun-drenched terrace.
To help you curate your own perfect itinerary, we have compiled a definitive list of the top spots currently defining the scene. From artisan bakers who take their flat whites seriously to hidden courtyards perfect for a summer afternoon, this guide covers the spectrum. Here are the 15 best cafes in Reims that you simply cannot miss.

This is a lovely specialty coffee shop with quality coffee and the perfect atmostphere! They have lower cost with a few high quality varieties. As a roaster, they know all aspects of coffee! Loved the conversation on coffee. A must for those who love specialty coffee in france. The roast is a bit darker than some to please the french but less than normal cafe.

The coffee here is excellent, and they roast their own beans. I really enjoy the atmosphere, and the restroom is always clean.

Excellent Espresso, the owner is really knowledgeable in how to make real good espresso.
Homemade cakes are also offered - they are really delicious.
The cafe is a roastery as well since there is a big nice roaster where the owner roasts its coffee.
We appreciated a lot that we could select different beans for the espresso. This is quite rare to our experience - usually cafe’s have not more than one other coffee bean to choose. In this Place we could choose from 6 different beans - each of them different with character and not deadly roasted beans
Merveilleux Espresso!
Thanks for the nice talk - much appreciated.

Yes ! A good flat white in Reims ! Plus outside tables and a very cute interior with big windows and lots of light. Great place to work or meet for a chat. Love it here !❤️

Echoing another Rating observation: YES!
Excellent espresso and steamed milk drinks - with great, expertly roasted coffee.
No burned tires.
Had a Latte Macchiatto with Ethiopian beans. Such a pleasure to enjoy the coffee.
Espresso machine is Victoria Arduino Eagle One - water conserving design in conjunction with James Hoffman.
Thank you!

New coffee shop in town!! Hip interior, friendly owner (Erick), and great specialty coffee.
A place to taste coffee from local coffee roasters: Moklair Torréfacteur and J'aime Thé Café. They also sell coffee beans, coffee equipment, and other local produce.

Friendly neighbourhood coffee shop. Lots of space to do your work or read books in the cafe. The coffee was too sour for my taste.

A charming French café in Reims with warm, attentive service, excellent food, and a cozy, artistic vibe. Every plate is thoughtfully prepared and full of flavor. The artwork throughout the space gives it real character—perfect for a relaxed coffee, brunch, or an inspiring afternoon in the heart of Reims.

Perfect for a breakfast: very tasty coffee, fresh orange juice and the best croissant, I have ever had. Well, it was picked up for us freshly from the near by bakery (that's why it's not on the picture - it is still on the way...).

The cappuccino was fine - nothing special but well drinkable. The flat white was too bitter - it felt like the beans were overroasted. The cookie with matcha and white chocolate was great - not much sugar and had a nice green tea flavour. Overall this place may be good if you need a quick coffee but for a great experience I’d look elsewhere

This small specialty coffee shop in the center of Reims is located inside a shopping arcade. The ground floor is small with just a few tables and a tiny terrace, but upstairs there's a comfortable space with sofas where you can enjoy your coffee in peace and quiet.
The cortado was delicious with a perfectly balanced acidity. The service was friendly and very attentive; they speak English, which is always a plus for non-native speakers.

Small cute coffee shop but...
Just be careful if you're tourist.
I'm french but my wife is Canadian, so we speak English.
The attendant assumes I'm a tourist and she ask a tips for a service.
In france, there's no tips.
So be aware.

Small little cafe in the middle of old town.
Very good range of coffee and tea selection.
Nice freshly made cookies cakes, and small bites too.
The interior design is very comfee and feels good to stay and chat with friends.

Before heading back, (22 july 2026) I had to drop by my favorite spot in Reims! Holy Shot Coffee Shop is a true hidden gem—cozy, tiny, and super popular with the younger crowd.
Do not miss: Freshly brewed coffee made with local roasted beans
A absolute must-visit!

Louisa Moore★★★☆☆
Since this was my very first time in Reims, I really wanted to soak up the local foodie culture. I was searching for a small coffee shop, and I passed by Holy Shot and decided to pop in.
The proprietor behind the counter couldn't have been nicer. She spoke zero English, but was incredibly welcoming and kind. She seemed almost giddy (by French standards) to have tourists in her coffee shop, so I got the feeling this was a very locals-only type place.
We ordered cappuccinos and a "baked fresh today" chocolate chip cookie that looked too irresistible to pass up.
Now, France isn't exactly known for their espresso, and these cappuccinos admittedly weren't very good. They were hot, but that's about it. The cookie didn't fare much better, it wasn't very sweet but did taste nice and fresh. You could really taste the fresh butter and quality ingredients.
This is a very tiny little coffee shop, and we sat at a communal table in the window with a lovely local couple who also didn't speak English (or look, they at least pretended not to, LOL). Although I didn't love the coffee or treats, the cozy atmosphere was absolutely perfect, especially on a cold and rainy afternoon in Reims. It also felt really good to support a small local business.
Jelle van den Berg★★★☆☆
Cakes and sweets looked good (didn’t taste), but the coffee was disappointing: the cappuccino was more like a weak latte. And rather expensive as well. For specialty coffee, look elsewhere.
Ka Lok Tsang★★☆☆☆
Nice staff, nice environment! For personal taste, coffee is not good. I ordered flat white and cappuccino. The coffee taste is too light (just like milk). But the cake is nice!

An amazing atmosphere and a great service, definitely recommend this flowery spot!
The drinks were great, the matcha melon had that iconic matcha-tea flavor, the lemonade base in the Bloom was very nice, if you like sour lemonade you’ll like the Bloom!

That was a delicious fresh breakfast, served very fast and looked amazing! We took a brioche with salmon and toast with beetroot and granola + eggs - they were fantastic! And very nice coffee! ❤️

Very cosy café! The decorations are amazing, we went in winter and it was full of Christmas decorations 🙂 The food was good; we chose the brunch formula for €32 per person. The service was fast and the waiters were kind.
Since it was Sunday, we had to queue outside and waited around 30 minutes, as they unfortunately don’t accept reservations.
The only thing I would change about the brunch formula is the timing of the hot drink: it would be better to serve it after the savoury dish, rather than bringing everything at once, or at least to ask the customer. Apart from this detail, everything was great!

Alexey Subach★★★☆☆
The coffee looked great but wasn’t what I expected on the taste. It tasted a bit like soured cream and had a weird flavour, both for cappuccino and flat white. The atmosphere inside was nice. They ran out of pastries 30 min after opening time so don’t rely on anything else than coffee too.
Kate Trinh★★☆☆☆
Great coffee ☕️ we tried ice latte, cappuccino (oat milk +0,50€ ?) and americano.
Our experience was completely ruined by the service today. The French waitress (with red hair and glasses) was incredibly snobbish, arrogant, and unfriendly. She seemed genuinely annoyed by our order and our choice of seating. We unknowingly sat in front of the roastery room where seating wasn't allowed, but instead of politely offering us an alternative, she spoke to us in a very condescending and rude tone. I will definitely not return to this cafe. Very disappointing.
Jessica Flinn★★★★★
Loved this little coffee shop. Such friendly staff and were patient with my terrible French. Had a gorgeous dirty lavender latte and noisette bun. Would recommend and thank you!
Harrison McFall-King★★★☆☆
The coffee itself is excellent - a solid 4.3/5 for the flat white. That said, it wasn’t filled to the top, which is worth noting (see photos).
My main concern is with service and expectation-setting. We were told to expect a 5–10 minute wait, but it ended up being over 20 minutes. Given the delay, the coffee also felt rushed at the end, which showed in the pour.
On a busy weekend, speed and service need to be sharper. When I politely asked whether I could collect my order the following day instead, the response was quite abrupt - not the experience you’d hope for. There’s real potential here, but the front-of-house experience needs to match the quality of what’s in the cup.
Joanna Cosnier★★★★★
Time stops when you go to Moklair. It's the ideal place for a relaxing break. You get to enjoy beautiful products, going from a wide variety of filter coffees to heartwarming latte variations. If you're not big on coffee you can enjoy a hot/cold chocolate, a selection of japanese teas and matcha, giving off strong umami vibes. You'll notice easily that the baristas are passionate about their job, they really know their stuff. This level of quality can require time, be patient on a busy day, it's well worth the wait. This isn't your standard coffee shop, it's clearly in another league.

A wonderful experience in a stunning setting! The architecture and interior design of this place are truly unique and create a fantastic atmosphere.
The highlight of the meal was the beef Tartare. I loved the fact that you can assemble it entirely yourself—it’s rare to find a place that provides all the ingredients separately, from the egg yolk and onions to the capers, pickles, Worcestershire sauce, and Tabasco. It allowed me to create the perfect balance for my taste.
The service was very friendly and attentive, and the house champagne was excellent. A must-visit in Reims for anyone who appreciates great food and a beautiful environment
Holly Campbell★★★★★
Cafe du Palais was the most pleasant lunch we have had this far in our trip. The service was warm, welcoming, gracious and attentive. The selection on le carte was expansive and we enjoyed our choices fully. We would choose to dine here again! There is a reason they have been in business since 1930.

Meh, the experience didn't match the high Google rating. Duck confit was ok, but I got a nice piece of plastic (unwrapped for picture) at the top of my side salad which I didn't bother getting returned. The waiter also took forever to pour my champagne glass... After 35 minutes waiting and asking a few times, he finally filled it the first time. I get the check at the end and see I got charged for 2 glasses, which they did correct after I informed them. Just an ok lunch.

I spent three weeks in Reims for a work trip and this was my absolute favourite brunch spot by far.
A co-worker loved this place so much we went back three times! We chatted with the owners on our visits and we began to feel like regulars. It would have been four times but we tried on a weekend without reservation and there wasn’t room for 4 of us; honestly, I wasn’t surprised, so if you’re visiting on a weekend I’d recommend a reservation.
Their sweet and savoury options are sooooo good. I had the braised lamb bowl, chicken and waffles, and their brioche French toast is to die for!
I used to work in the restaurant industry and I’m a big foodie, their plates were so full of deliciousness in every corner.
I loved their fresh apple/orange/ginger juice it was so healthy, their autumn cappuccino was delicious.
If you’re in Reims, it’s an absolute must!

Very good lunch here if you are looking for something different. The pictures look very nice from all reviewers and tastewise, it's really delicious! I love the grilled cheese toast!
Benjamin Teo★★★★★
Great place! I only took photos of the mains but you'll notice the other reviews with great photos of the food and reviews. No, they don't scam people by asking them to leave a review and give a free item or a discount.
Set meal we got was 1 main, 1 dessert, 1 hot drink and 1 cold drink. The set cost €32 each. The value for one is amazing. The food came in fast but hot. Only qualm I had was my waffle was a bit less warm than I had preferred. Drinks were all great, we had the matcha latte and golden latte which we guess was a spiced turmeric latte (how has no one made this a thing????)
Service was very friendly even though the staff was busy with a heavy lunch crowd. Seems like there are 3 seating and it is recommended to make a reservation. We came slightly after 2pm and it seemed like a group had left so we didn't have to wait for a table.
Worth coming back.

Great breakfast spot! Suggested by the Caserne Chanzy concierge, and it didn’t disappoint. Ordering was simple with their QR code menu, and the food was fresh and delicious. Highly recommend.
Manuela Jimenez de Arechaga★☆☆☆☆
Terrible service — well, equal to none, because everything is ordered through a screen anyway. Allergens and bread descriptions were completely wrong: what was listed as sourdough turned out to be milk bread. I asked for it to be changed, but they refused because apparently “their boss does not like it.”
If your system and ingredient descriptions are incorrect, that’s not the customer’s mistake. Instead of taking accountability, the 4 waiters ignored me and wouldn’t even listen to what I was trying to explain.
Absolute shitshow.
Marton Szabo★★★★☆
A nice location for brunch. We got loads of food through the brunch offer and it all tasted great. Service was fast and the experience through the QR code ordering was efficient. I only wish the drinks were slightly more elevated in quality, as my coffee was overly sweet and the ice tea was a bit weak. Very good brunch nonetheless.

Unfortunately, I did not have the chance to enjoy lunch here, but I was surprised to be told that I was not welcome with two kids because the only available table (with two seats) was too small for me and my kids. I would have had my one-year-old on my lap. Therefore, I can’t comment on the food, but I was very disappointed with how we were welcomed.

As lovers of true espresso, the kind we adore drinking in Italian alleyways, we've been coming to Chez Miguel for years. We always find the taste and creaminess typical of a good espresso thanks to their blends and freshly roasted coffee. Furthermore, Sandrine (an exceptional server) is always so welcoming to us and our children, and her advice is always top-notch. You can feel her knowledge and experience. Finally, there are great loyalty offers that allow you to compete on price, with the added bonus of quality. Thank you!

A very interesting shop. An almost unbelievable selection of coffees from every imaginable country. The prices are quite reasonable.
However, the shop also serves coffee drinks. These are prepared by a fully automatic coffee machine. Very strange, somehow out of touch with the times, and not at all worthy of the diverse and expertly roasted beans.

My favorite restaurant in Reims. The colors and style are modern and comforting. The food is phenomenal (the best tuna steak I have ever had outside of Monaco). Friendly staff who suffered my abysmal French. Good music! Highly recommend.

Tips for Enjoying the Café Scene in Reims
To make the most of your coffee journey in the capital of Champagne, it helps to understand the local customs and timing. While the café culture is welcoming, it operates on a slightly different rhythm than what you might find in larger metropolitan hubs like Paris or London. Knowing when to go and how to order can significantly enhance your experience and help you blend in with the local clientele.
- Time Your Visit Strategically: French cafés are often busiest during the morning rush (8:00 AM – 10:00 AM) and during lunch. If you want a quiet spot to work or secure a prime terrace seat, aim for the mid-morning lull around 10:30 AM or the mid-afternoon window between 2:30 PM and 4:00 PM.
- Differentiate Between the Bar and the Table: In many traditional cafes, the price of your coffee changes depending on where you consume it. Standing at the bar (au comptoir) is usually the cheapest option, sitting inside (en salle) costs a bit more, and sitting on the terrace (en terrasse) is the most expensive. Check the menu board before you sit down.
- Understand "Brunch" Hours: While specialty cafes in Reims have embraced the international brunch trend, they rarely serve it all day. Most kitchens stop serving brunch or hot food by 2:00 PM or 3:00 PM. If you are craving eggs or a full meal, do not arrive too late; otherwise, you may be limited to pastries and desserts.
- Ask About the Beans: The specialty coffee scene in Reims is growing, but not every café roasts its own beans. If you are a coffee enthusiast, don’t hesitate to ask the barista about the origin of their beans or their roasting partner. It is a great way to discover local French roasters and shows the staff you appreciate their craft.
- Cash and Cards: While Reims is a modern city, some smaller artisan cafes or those in the market areas may have a minimum spend for card payments or operate on a cash-only basis. Always carry a small amount of cash (€10–€20) to avoid being caught out when buying a single espresso.
- Seek the "Formule": Many cafes offer a "formule" or set menu for breakfast or lunch. This usually bundles a hot drink, a fresh juice, and a pastry or sandwich at a better price than ordering items individually. Look for chalkboards advertising these deals, as they offer the best value for money.
Ultimately, the café scene in Reims is about slowing down. While the city moves with the energy of a regional capital, the cafés remain places of pause. Whether you are sipping a meticulously crafted V60 pour-over in a modern space or nursing a traditional café crème while watching the world go by on Place du Forum, the experience is meant to be savored.
As you plan your visit, use this guide as a starting point rather than a strict checklist. Allow yourself to wander, peek down side streets, and follow the scent of fresh bread. In a city that has perfected the art of fermentation and patience, the best café is often the one that feels right in the moment, offering a warm welcome and a perfect cup to accompany your Reims adventure.
