Bordeaux is a city that seduces with its neoclassical architecture, world-class wine, and unhurried riverside charm. But beyond the grand facades of the Quais and the bustling markets, a different kind of culture is brewing. The city has embraced a vibrant specialty coffee and design-led café scene that rivals its culinary reputation.
For locals and travelers alike, finding a space that balances visual beauty with a genuinely great cup of coffee is a distinct pleasure. It is no longer enough for a café to simply serve espresso; the atmosphere, the plating, the light, and the textures of the interior matter just as much. These spaces have become social hubs where work, conversation, and relaxation blend seamlessly.
The aesthetic appeal of a café in Bordeaux often mirrors the city’s dual identity. You will find minimalist, Scandinavian-inspired spaces tucked into ancient stone buildings, as well as lush, bohemian terraces hidden in quiet courtyards. Each offers a unique sensory experience that goes far beyond the caffeine.
This guide curates a selection of the most visually stunning and atmospherically unique spots the city has to offer. Whether you are seeking the perfect backdrop for a photo, a quiet corner to read, or a beautifully plated brunch, these locations deliver on all fronts. The focus here is on spaces that prioritize design, quality ingredients, and a distinct sense of place.
We have scoured the historic center, the trendy Chartrons district, and the vibrant Saint-Michel area to bring you the definitive list of must-visit locations. Prepare to discover interiors that range from sun-drenched and plant-filled to moody and art-deco inspired. These are the places where the city’s creative pulse is most visible.
Below is the curated list of the 15 best aesthetic cafes in Bordeaux, selected for their visual impact, consistency, and unique charm.

The coffee is of excellent quality at a normal value price. This place is a gem located in a quiet street in the center of the old Bordeaux. The staff were very nice and smiling. The place has limited seating but they also offer to go cups if you don’t have the chance of seating at one of the tables outside.

Solid specialty coffee! Really enjoyed my cup. Sadly, the pastries were pretty meh — they definitely could be better. Overall, a nice place for coffee lovers, but the snacks need some work
Götz Bürkle★★★★★
🤩 I was very happy that a lovely local from Bordeaux recommended L'Alchimiste Café Boutique to me on my first day. 👍
☕️ The staff are really nice, the coffee is great & the pastries are delicious too. 🥐
🙌 I ended up going there two or three times during my short stay in the city & will happily go there again on my next visit! 😊
Kaman Kwok★★★★☆
Recommended by the hotel concierge and it does not disappoint. We order the butter croissant, chocolate croissant, and chocolate fondant, latte, mocha and hot chocolate. The drinks are great - not too sweet. If the pastry can serve warm that would be perfect. Server speaks great English. Overall very enjoyable experience.
Katrin Br★★★★★
Fantastic coffee and pastries!
We tried several of the pastry options, the coffee and the hot chocolate. Very high quality and nice staff! Fully recommended when you are looking for a good coffee spot in Bordeaux!

Super cute cafe. The staff was sweet and helpful. Good patisseries & coffee.
Eva Munch★★★★★
Breakfast was good. Very friendly staff. Just a tiny little space, great coffee. Limited pastries but they do have yogurt with fruit 🍓🍑🍓 which we were after.
😊
Diego Caban★★★★★
An excellent coffee shop! I’ve been coming every morning to enjoy a latte and a chocolatín and I’ve enjoyed the service every time.
Zac★★★★★
I loved the Croque Monsieur and that it was with the stronger cheese, just the way I like it, with the side of the carrot. The coffee was great! And absolutely wonderful service with kindness and smile ☺️ the lady was incredibly efficient on a busy morning and very nice! Thanks for the delicious cookie! This was our last stop in Bordeaux before heading to the airport and it was the nicest experience we had. Highly recommended!

During our visit to Bordeaux, we stopped at this charming little place in the heart of the city. . The service was excellent. They really took care of us and showed genuine interest. They made us an amazing coffee, and I had a delicious salmon bagel. The vibe was the best we encountered. I highly recommend it without hesitation!

Delicious food and specialty coffee in a really cozy and cool spot in Bordeaux. Staff is super friendly and the overall vibe of the cafe is so nice! you can either sit in the main room or next to it, where you can see the bakers cooking. Coffe was amazing (am i’m very picky with coffee), i recommend the cold brew. The guiness cake is out of this world ❤️ i’ve never tried something similar. This is a must if you visit/live in Bordeaux 😍
Mario Mendez★★★☆☆
Come here for the pastries and the coffee, don't come here for the food. The food is not seasoned, eggs were plain, and pancakes had no flavor. Bacon was good and crispy. Coffee wasn't hot when served.
People were nice and service was good (not above and beyond).
Robert Kwok★★★★☆
Located right next to Cathédrale Saint-André de Bordeaux, this cafe serves a a very soothing Americano. If being critical (and why shouldn’t we be), the tables and chairs are a bit awkward for the small shop. Service is friendly despite the barista was flat out during the visit.
Jo Wong★★★★★
Found this nice little cafe while we’re looking for breakfast place nearby us. Place was a little small. Ordered latte and matcha latte. Both were above average in taste. Then we ordered their bacon with fried egg pancakes and also the eggs benedict classic. Food was good. Will definitely return in future.
Kyran Chonel★★★★★
Nice and cozy place.
Best Eggs Benedict in town.
Hearty meals at fair prices.
Very pleasant staff. Highly recommend!

La Douce Parenthèse is a lovely little spot in Bordeaux. The place is small but very charming, with a cozy and calm atmosphere. Their tartes are really good—fresh, well-balanced, and clearly made with care. Everything feels fine and thoughtfully prepared. The staff is very helpful and kind, which makes the experience even more pleasant. A great place for a sweet break or a light bite. Definitely worth a visit.
Emily OBrien★★★★★
Cozy and charming in the heart of Bordeaux. The quietest little spot right between two of the busiest walks--Rue Sainte Catherine and the river walk--in Bordeaux. So sweet and calm, almost like you're at a friend's place. And dog friendly: they even brought my little girl a bowl of water. Excellent coffee and cakes. Love this place.
Paula Sims★★★★★
What a superb find. A lovely little cafè, and a warm welcome A choice of 3 quiches today. We chose the vegetarian one with carrot puree and blue cheese, with obviously home made fresh pastry, and a very grown up salad. Absolutely delicious!! And a lovely coffee with oat milk to follow including a free mouthful of one of their beautiful home made cakes. Highly recommended.
Laura★★★★★
11/10! 🩷 The salad, quiches & cake was super good! Many vegetarian options. Super kind service.
Andrew Walsh★★★★★
Had lunch at La Douce and thoroughly enjoyed it. Proper home-cooked food, lovely friendly service, and excellent quality throughout. It was especially nice to see such a great selection of seasonal dishes, including delicious homemade tarts and fresh salads. Highly recommended!

A true haven for coffee lovers! ☕️❤️ Café Piha is all about excellent coffee, paired with a simple croissant or pain au chocolat if you fancy a snack.
You can choose from four different coffee beans for either your espresso or milk drink. They truly master the basics ⭐️ the Flat White was spot on and costs €4.50.
Extremely friendly staff, and the unisex restrooms were super clean. Highly recommended!🫰🏻
Julia O'Reilly★★★★★
They have three coffee beans to chose from, I chose the rounded flavour and it was devine. Best coffee I had in years!
Great service, brilliant music and overall chill vibes.
We came to eat but there was no food menu only a very limited selection of cakes.
Dog friendly and brought a bowl of water for her.
The Curated Stamp★★★★★
Excellent coffee and probably the most delicious Citron cake I’ve ever tasted. Friendly customer service and overall good vibes place to relax and enjoy your beverage. They offer plenty of indoor and some outdoor seating.
Ashley Gasque★★★★★
This is our favorite coffee shop in Bordeaux. The coffee drinks are amazing, the coffee beans for sale are delicious and well curated, and the staff are very friendly and knowledgeable.
Silas Schwarzer★★★★★
This is a great place to have a nice afternoon break and enjoy a perfect coffee!
They really know their coffee and if you have questions about the different blends don’t hesitate to ask.
The pain au chocolate was super fluffy and the chocolate inside was still warm!

Very cozy restaurant settings, very nice host and services. The food was good and delicious, but the food choices are a bit limited.
Overall, I recommend this restaurant to anyone who seeks for a relax lunch and simple bites.

Fantastic dinner options, just what I was looking for tonight - light and flavorful...try the miso cod or pave' de saumon both were perfectly cooked and served hot
Das Fräulein F★★★★★
Very nice and very tasty. Highlight recommended.
We got tables put together and the umbrellas put in place so that we are in the cellar.
The salads were frech and nicely balanced.

A quality brunch full of flavor. An amazing vegan plate option. Impeccable service. Adorable décor.
Already my second time back this month. Highly recommend!
Sachin Talwalkar★★★★★
Very Bordeaux (tourist version).
Located in a quiet by-lane of the city, I was lucky to get in early and find a table. As a result I could spend some time enjoying my breakfast. Otherwise it gets busy very quickly through the day.
I found the menu to be varied, sumptuous and delicious. I wish I had gone in with a larger appetite. Perhaps, some other time.
Justin Medwid★★★★★
Brunch menu was incredibly generous, each item was delicious and very well presented. We would recommend getting a reservation as the place seems very busy during peak hours but the staff is very accommodating and nice even with constant action. Highly recommend, come hungry!
Benedetta Antognoli★★★★★
Great spot for a sunday brunch with friends.
The brunch menu has limited savoury selection, but I highly recommend the bagel.
The place was very crowded and the ordering process wasn’t the easiest. Additionally, I wish we were served the savoury dish before the sweets.
Food was very good and the beverages too.
The place is very cute and it feels cosy.
Rema Gouyez Benallal★★★★★
Absolutely superb food and service. Not a boring bunch of just eggs and avocado. A culinary surprise with each part of the plate! The baked goods are SO delicious and the brunch menu is well worth the visit for. Cosy and fun setting with pretty decor. Owner Helen explained to us why the shop was called Peter and it was because she wanted guests to be enchanted and feel like a child not a grown up in the space. Aptly named after Peter Pan.

Food was excellent! The prawn sandwich and the salted caramel waffles were our favourites! Service extremely quick! We just found that the americano ordered from the menu was way tastier than the Swedish filter coffee! Would definitely recommend this place!
Ľuboš★★★★★
An excellent Swedish brunch restaurant. Friendly service, great waffles, delicious homemade white yogurt, and excellent toast options, whether with meatballs or salmon. The price matches the quality and portion sizes.
George Boriaru★★★★★
Very delicious brunch restaurant inspired by the Swedish cuisine. The staff is welcoming and the atmosphere is cosy.

Perfect brunch with so many options. The waffle was amazing and the cappuccino was so good. Loved the build your own brunch
Melih Atabek★★★★★
SUZZI Coffee Bordeaux is a lovely spot right in the city center, perfect for a relaxing coffee break. The place is clean, calm, and very welcoming—ideal for escaping the city buzz for a while. The taste of Swedish coffee culture really stands out, especially the kardemummabulle, which is absolutely delicious and authentic. Great coffee, cozy atmosphere, and a wonderful location. Highly recommended ☕️✨

They roast their own coffee at La Pelle Cafe and have some amazing flavours. The barrister was really helpful and happy to explain the difference in the roasts and beans. Great to have a choice of beans and brews. Definitely one of the best coffee places in town.
Robert Kwok★★★★☆
Apparently their long black is a americano with two shots (meaning americano has one shot). Decided to save my caffeine quota for the day and ordered an americano. Coffee is a standard affair.
Carsten Schönberg★☆☆☆☆
If you have time and time is not important for you, this is your place. When every employee is finishing talking to each other and have done their cigarette break they may serve you. After sitting 15 minutes at the table and been told to wait for the waiter, he was willing to serve you. No menu, you have to go inside again we ordered a Latte and a Cappuccino. The quality is decent, but not better than every average German,Italien or other countries coffee place. The ambiente is lower than average. I think you must be am American to hype this place.
E GC★★★★★
Lovely people and nice drinks, we had a coffee and chocolate with art included and a tasty piece of cake. They took good care of us all along, thank you!
Natalia Bonnelye★★★★★
My preferred cafe in Bordeaux! The coffee beans are freshly roasted on-site, and you can choose from any type of coffee. Also, there is a very tasty matcha latte. The place is perfect for breakfast or brunch - avocado toast is just yummy! Only one minus - very often there are no free places ))

Sitting at the back of this cafe is so soothing on a hot day. Not only is the A/C flowing, nice coffees too.
A batch brew is not always my default choice as I want to experience what the barista has to offer on the spot and not something pre-made. However, the batch brew that I had completely changed my view, it was very flavoursome (despite it was poured from a flask).
Had a flat white during my second visit. It was as soothing as the A/C and more. The milk texture was just right and it had the best latte art in Bordeaux (although I have only visited half a dozen cafes in town). It was one of those drinks that you couldn’t put the cup down until you down the whole thing.
Nicholas Tong★★★★★
Moko coffee is a true coffee institution. With an extensive pourover menu, there is definitely a coffee to suit every palate. I visited several times during my visit to Bordeaux and ordered different pourovers, only to be blown away every time. If you’re here to visit or stay in Bordeaux, I highly recommend.
Ps…I write longer coffee notes and café reflections on Substack: Musings of a Coffee Enthusiast.

Great breakfast cafe tucked away in a side street.
Good choice of hot and cold choices with a range of coffees.
Well worth a visit.
Kev C★★★★★
Lovely cafe ! Staffs are friendly and kind, coffee is amazing and this place is reli cute!
Tofil Armo★★★★☆
Great and spacious spot. I tried their house granola and breakfast burger, it was amazing. I wasn’t the biggest fan of the oat milk flat white I had. I think it was still too strong for a flat white but maybe that’s just me!

A hidden gem in Bordeaux!
Perfect cappuccino, flaky and rich chocolate croissant – both spot on. Tiny space with a cozy vibe, where the incredibly friendly owner runs the whole show himself. You can taste the passion in every cup. Ideal stop for coffee lovers looking for quality and charm.

A lovely little gem in Bordeaux with a cozy ambiance and warm service. KURO Café blends minimalist charm with thoughtful details, from the welcoming baristas to the carefully curated coffee selection. They source their beans from Utopia and Colombia varieties — a real treat for coffee enthusiasts. I had a well-pulled espresso paired with a delightful brioche cardamom — the kind of simple pleasure that makes a morning memorable. Ideal spot for a quiet moment or casual conversation in a beautiful corner of the city. Would gladly return.
Nina Beilby★★★★★
There were a few good coffee places in Bordeaux but this was by far my personal favourite.
The Thai Beef Salad was also really good. I wish more cafes offered these healthier options.

The flat white here was excellent, one of the best I had around and can highly recommend it. The staff is very friendly making it even better. There isn't really too much seating or outdoor patio but still highly worth it

Visited this wonderful cafe on a whim. The coffee and fresh orange juice was great but what made the experience exceptional is the service. The owner was very kind to us and was very welcoming to his beautiful cafe. The cafe is clean and comfortable, 5/5 would recommend.
Dani GM★★★★★
One of the best coffees we had in Bordeaux.
The service was extraordinarily nice and helped us decide on our drink and snacks.
The Brookies (a mix of a cookie and a brownie) were a delight.

The worker was very kind. He recommended the Blueberry Muffin and it was incredible. I also enjoyed my hot chocolate and the cathedral view.

Excellent café noisette (piccolo for Aussies) and friendly proactive service from the owner who even suggested activities for us to do in town with kids. Simple decor. Central location. Great for a quick excellent coffee if you're waiting to climb the nearby tower or visit the cathedral.

I recently visited SIP Coffee Bar in Bordeaux and thoroughly enjoyed my experience. The atmosphere was delightful, creating a cozy and inviting ambiance. The food options were impressive, focusing on healthy choices that catered to my preferences. Although there was no Wi-Fi available, I appreciated being able to work on my laptop undisturbed. Overall, SIP Coffee Bar is a fantastic option for those seeking a charming coffee shop experience with a focus on health-conscious dining.

Easy to notice location, everything fine, very welcome for tourists. We take a break before continuing the trip to Bordeaux Cathedral. Good coffee anyway.
james008★★★☆☆
I got a decent flat white with oat milk. Nothing wrong with the coffee itself. What puzzled me, however, was that the espresso was first collected in two small glasses and then poured into a takeaway cup. That extra step can't be doing the flavour any favours and seems to take away some of the depth and character of the coffee.
I was also given a lid on my cup without being asked. That felt a bit odd. A lid should be something the customer can request if they want one, rather than the default. In many cases it's simply unnecessary and creates additional waste. Apart from that, the service was fine and the coffee was perfectly drinkable.

My family often has difficulty finding a restaurant that allows our little doggie, but Homie's welcomed him with open arms and even offered him some water. The entire service staff was amazing, and they spoke English which was helpful. The food was absolutely delicious as well. We highly recommend this restaurant!

I rarely leave one-star reviews, but unfortunately, my experience here was truly disappointing.
I ordered a caffè macchiato, a croissant, and a slice of carrot cake. The drink didn’t taste great. I had chosen this place hoping to relax and get some work done, but the environment made that impossible. The room was so cold that I ended up with a stomachache.
At one point, I went to the counter to order tea. I stood there for about four minutes — I was the only customer — and yet neither of the two staff members acknowledged me. They walked past me several times without saying a word, as if I wasn’t even there. Eventually, I gave up and went back to my table without ordering anything, feeling completely ignored.
To top it off, when I needed to use the restroom, it was out of service.
I left feeling disappointed and uncomfortable. There was zero hospitality, zero warmth, and zero effort to make customers feel seen or cared for.
If you’re looking for a cozy café to relax or work, I’d suggest checking out the nearby options — they offer a much better atmosphere and, at the very least, a welcoming smile.
BradinHK★★★★☆
We recently stopped by for coffee and pancakes at Cafeincup on Rue des Argentiers. They have a casual and nice indoor seating area, you can do take-away orders as well.
Coffees served on the morning were strong, bold flavour and tasted as expected. Pancakes came as a stack of three, served dry with Nutella. These were fine as well. Service friendly, timely and environs quite relaxing for a light breakfast.
Andrea Aguilar★☆☆☆☆
Terrible service, we had to wait a long time to get our drinks, no cutlery was provided and terrible attitude from the waitresses, they were clearly beyond capacity and stress. Food was TERRIBLE, avocado toast was made with supermarket bread while there is beautiful bread in Bordeaux. The açaí bowl was served Mega frozen, the portion of the pancakes was ridiculous. We asked for a glass of milk for our daughter and they brought us 1/8 of the glass filled!
Go to the place in front, the pancakes looks better and we’ll served

We were greeted by very friendly staff and found the place relaxing. The general mood was such, and it was pleasant to see the other customers on their laptops, chatting or simply sipping at their cups.
Sandwich portions are substantial so do consider sharing. We didn't get a chance to try the coffee, but the chai is much lighter than elsewhere, and they have an intriguing detox juice. Great experience, nonetheless!

How to Make the Most of Your Café Experience
While visiting these beautiful spaces is a treat in itself, a little local knowledge can elevate your experience from good to unforgettable. The rhythm of Bordeaux’s café culture is specific, and understanding the local etiquette and timing will help you secure the best seats and enjoy the atmosphere to its fullest. Here are a few practical tips to keep in mind as you plan your aesthetic tour of the city.
1. Time Your Visit Strategically
The golden hour for photography and peaceful ambiance is usually right at opening time, typically between 9:00 AM and 10:00 AM. Most locals start their coffee breaks mid-morning, and lunch services begin around noon. If you want to photograph the interiors without disturbing other guests or waiting for a table, arrive early.
2. Check Kitchen Hours
Many of the most aesthetic cafes in Bordeaux function as coffee shops first and restaurants second. Kitchens often close between 2:30 PM and 6:30 PM to reset for dinner service. If you are hoping to eat a full meal, verify the kitchen hours, but if you only want coffee and pastries, the afternoon lull is the perfect time to visit.
3. Embrace the Terrace Culture
Bordeaux’s weather is often mild, and the terraces are prime real estate. However, the most beautiful interior tables are usually found away from the door. Don’t be afraid to ask the staff if you can wait for a specific table inside or in the courtyard; they are usually happy to accommodate if you are patient.
4. Respect the Laptop Policies
While many of these spaces look like ideal remote work offices, not all of them welcome laptops during peak hours. Some cafes in Bordeaux have designated "no laptop" zones on weekends to preserve the social atmosphere. Always check the house rules or ask a server before setting up a workstation.
5. Don’t Skip the Non-Coffee Menu
The aesthetic appeal of these venues often extends to their culinary creativity. Many of the best spots feature house-made lemonades, artisanal hot chocolates, or locally sourced natural wines. Exploring the menu beyond the flat white often reveals the true passion of the owners and makes for a more memorable visit.
Bordeaux’s café scene is a testament to the city’s ability to evolve while respecting its heritage. Each of these venues offers more than just a visual backdrop; they provide a sensory snapshot of contemporary French life, where design and gastronomy intersect beautifully.
As you wander through the limestone streets, let this list be your starting point. Allow yourself the time to linger, to watch the light shift across the tables, and to savor the craftsmanship in both the cup and the decor. The best way to understand Bordeaux is often to simply sit still in a beautiful room and observe the world passing by.
