The French Riviera is synonymous with glamour, but Saint-Tropez adds a distinct layer of Provençal charm that few other coastal towns can match. Beyond the legendary yachts in the Vieux Port and the vibrant nightlife at Les Caves du Roy, there lies a deeply rooted culinary tradition waiting to be discovered. For many visitors, the true taste of this iconic village is not found in a champagne bar, but in the flour-dusted counters of its local bakeries.
Walking through the cobblestone lanes of La Ponche or the bustling Place des Lices market, the aroma of warm butter and freshly baked dough is an irresistible guide. Whether you are looking for a flaky croissant to start your day, a crusty baguette to accompany a beachside picnic, or a delicate fruit tart to end an evening, the local boulangeries and pâtisseries offer an array of sensory delights. These establishments are not just shops; they are the beating heart of daily Provençal life.
The region’s proximity to high-quality ingredients—from the almonds of Provence to the lemons of Menton and the butter of Normandy—allows bakers to craft products of exceptional quality. In Saint-Tropez, the standards are exceptionally high, as these artisans cater to a clientele that expects both rustic authenticity and refined elegance. From family-run institutions that have served generations of Tropéziens to modern artisans pushing the boundaries of French pastry, the variety is staggering.
Navigating the sheer number of options can be overwhelming, especially during the bustling summer months when lines stretch out the door. To truly appreciate the scene, one must know where to find the perfect tarte tropézienne, the crispiest baguette tradition, or the most innovative viennoiserie. It requires a balance of seeking out the historic legends while also respecting the new wave of talent that has set up shop in the Gulf of Saint-Tropez.
We have curated a list that represents the pinnacle of baking in this sun-drenched locale. Each entry has been selected for its mastery of technique, quality of ingredients, and the unique experience it offers to the visitor. Whether you are staying in the center of town or exploring the quieter surrounding villages, this guide ensures you will never be far from an exceptional bite.
Without further ado, here are the essential addresses to satisfy your cravings for all things baked and beautiful in Saint-Tropez.

I purchased a variety of pastries from this bakery in St. Tropez, and every single one was outstanding. Not only were the pastries exceptional, but the service was equally impressive. The staff were some of the friendliest and most welcoming people I’ve met during my visit.
Being just outside the busy downtown area makes it the perfect stop—especially for a professional chef like me who appreciates exceptional pastries without the crowds.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Five stars from this chef… and I’d give even more if I could! Thank you again for such a wonderful experience. I’ll definitely be back.

We saw many people carrying bags from here so we had to give it a try. I think they have one in Paris also but we had never been. Very nice shop with many products besides cakes and bread. A but pricey but it was good. I think it’s a famous name but I think there’s many places you can get the same taste.

I tried several products, both savory and sweet, from the Boulangerie, and they were all very good , but the baba au rhum stuck in my mind — it was probably the best one I’ve ever had.

La Pâtisserie Cyril Lignac. A newer addition to Saint-Tropez. (opened in 2024), this elegant pâtisserie was launched by renowned chef Cyril Lignac in collaboration with Benoit Couvrand. A small place with no seating area serving patisseries and some savoury items.

When in Saint-Tropez, you must stop at La Tarte Tropezienne. It was busy when we came. We decided we needed to try the specialty. They had plenty of them available and in different flavors. We stuck to the original.
They were good. They also had tons of other items. Everything looked very delicious.
Ane Ferri★☆☆☆☆
What a disappointment.
The tart tropézienne itself was disappointing, but that is a matter of personal taste. What was much more disappointing, however, was the service.
We arrived about 40 minutes before closing time. The staff were already cleaning, and they were visibly annoyed that we had come in. They were unfriendly and made us feel as though we were bothering them.
There were only three Tarte Tropézienne options left, two for 4 and one for 6 people, so we decided to take the one for 4. The woman before me ordered the exact same tart, and the staff member neatly packed it in a nice box and a bag. When it was our turn, however, we were told that tarts wrapped in plastic wrap could not be put in a box. We also asked if we could have a couple of wooden spoons, and were told that those were only for the small tarts, not the large ones.
Overall, a truly disappointing experience, especially considering the price we paid. We expected much better service and hospitality.

A very average pâtisserie and not cheap at all. If you suddenly crave for some pastry when walking along the street, you can give it a go. The display does look very appetising but only applied to the appearance.

Fantastic place for a really nice ice cream 😋
Pop in here rather than near the harbour were the quality is less yet the prices are extortionate !
The staff are so friendly.

For me it was a must to try as it’s the most famous dessert from Saint Tropez. It’s good to try but… for me no effect wow. It was good, I got 3 small ones with different flavors. Probably if I am there again I will give another try but… really there is no wow effect. The staff were friendly and helpful. Maybe next time I will go to a family patisserie not to a franchise one.

Such good tarte tropézienne! I went in with my mom on a Thursday afternoon in April and they were not busy. The store is relatively small and it is more of a takeaway situation vs sit down.
We got a tropèzienne and a florentin. Both were delicious! My mom said the florentin was the best she’s ever had. I especially like the tartes here because they aren’t as bready in comparison to other ones I’ve tried.
I highly recommend!

Very good tropezienne! The cream was a bit cold, which was very enjoyable in hot weather. The dessert was of good quality, and the dough had a bit of an orange blossom taste. Yum!

We got the Tarte Tropézienne at both Marcel Cavazza and La Tarte Tropézienne down the street... And Marcel's is incredible. So much better! Don't be deceived, come here for your tarte fix!

Yes, it has become a well-known stop and the queue in summer can be long, but the quality has held up well. We pick up a tarte almost every time we arrive at our place and it has become something of a tradition. The cream filling is generous and not too sweet, which is the right balance. The bread selection is also solid and worth the trip on its own if you are nearby. There are several locations around the area now which makes it easier to avoid the main one on busy weekends.
Kate Cast★★★★☆
The most trendy cakes and pastries in St.Tropze so of course is a must try. I really liked my ice coffee with milk and also like they have variety of different pastries and sizes of the typical St tropezienne one. The service is not the best. Btw. If you take it on go the prices are different then when you sit there with the service (you have to take it with you or order from them but one guy next to us got his pastry from the “bar” inside and then sit by the table and was not allowed.

TARA SADEGHI★★★★☆
We stopped by Cedric Grolet in Saint-Tropez for a quick dessert, and it definitely did not disappoint. I had the hazelnut dessert with the cream in the middle, along with a lemonade and one of their huge cookies, and everything was absolutely delicious.
Yes, it is definitely on the expensive side, but honestly, I think it was worth every penny. The quality and flavours were fantastic, and it was the perfect little treat.
I’m definitely a big fan and would happily go back.
Alex Petrov★★★★★
The desserts are beautifully presented, exceptionally well made and definitely worth the premium price. The flavours are refined, the ingredients are clearly high quality, and each creation feels like a carefully designed experience rather than just a simple sweet. However, the selection is quite limited, with only a small number of desserts available. A wider variety would make the experience feel more complete, especially considering the reputation and pricing.
Conrado Uribe★★★★★
Cedric Grolet at Les Airelles transcends the concept of an outstanding boulangerie; it is a masterclass in the economy of experience.
What happens here is pure artistry and craftsmanship—edible jewelry where innovation, design, and trompe-l'œil techniques culminate in a profound gastronomic staging. The last time I witnessed this level of contemporary culinary curation was with Ferran Adrià.
Each one of their creations are literally food for thought: expanding your understanding of the ingredients and redefining the boundaries of creative gastronomy. Every single one of their pastries are carefully performed pieces, making every euro spent a justified investment in a truly memorable experience.
Dilara★★★★★
Had a great experience at Cedric Grolet Saint-Tropez. The desserts were absolutely amazing—beautifully presented and full of flavor, definitely worth trying if you’re in Saint-Tropez.
The only downside was that the outdoor seating area was quite limited, and the tables and chairs could have been cleaner, as they had noticeable coffee stains. With a bit more attention to cleanliness, the overall experience would be even better.
Still, the quality of the desserts really stands out and makes it a place I’d happily visit again.
Meryem Abou El Bal★★★☆☆
Had not been amazed unfortunately. Its perfectly executed in term of design but i’ve been a bit disappointed by the taste. I got the strawberry, the lemon and the vanilla bean. The only one winner was the lemon one (design and taste). Vanilla bean wasnt that bad but not waw

I'd recommend checking it out if you're in the area.
It's really good, and the price is great compared to other spots nearby.
I tried the croissant and the pain aux chocolat, both super tasty.
I also really liked that the waiters were friendly and smiling, even though we didn't speak French (which isn't always the case in Saint Tropez!).

Prices: displayed 5euros, the bill: prices doubled.
See the pictures of much the cakes cost and then see how much it is finally charged. The prices are almost doubled if you sit and eat them in. There is no mention about it in the whole menu, the personal do not warn you… they just bring the bill with this horrible amounts. So a piece of cake for 1Oeuros??? It was my last visit of Tarte Tropezienne ever. There are much better bakeries around who dont charge you a chair!!!
The taste of cakes is average. Not bad, not something what would push me in heaven.

Opted for breakfast here and were positively impressed. The atmosphere inside is very hectic and somewhat stressful since it's a really small place but it's worth it. The Foccacia with Stracciatella and tomatoes is incredible, especially drizzled with the Olive Oil with basil. The pain aux raisin are great.

This is by far the best tropézienne I’ve ever had. It looks unassuming but the quality of the brioche and cream is top! I got one, ate it outside and went right back in for another

Learning that they supply many top restaurants in St Tropez piqued my curiosity, and I couldn't resist trying their tarte tropezienne. It was an absolute delight! The tarte's fluffiness paired perfectly with the fresh and light cream, creating a heavenly combination that satisfied my cravings. If you find yourself in St Tropez, make sure to visit this boulangerie and treat yourself to the must-try tarte tropezienne; you won't be disappointed!

Such such good macarons. I paid €20 for 6 macarons so yes it's quite expensive but really really good quality. Cute little store, too

A large range of flavours was available, rose and pistachio were my favourites. Gift boxes were customisable - you could choose the size/qty of macarons, flavours, and colour of the box. They also had merch - totes, candles, books etc though they were quite pricey.

Amazing flavours😍 We have tried 5 and came back to try the rest of the flavours! So delicious and surprising. We absolutely were blown away by rose flavour, tea and citrus and passion fruit and ylang ylang. Very complex flavours and delicate texture. We can't wait to come back when we're in St. Tropez again!

This is the second time that I am extremely disappointed with this bakery. We make an order, we pay the price and the expectation is not delivered and when I try to call I end up on the answering machine forever and nobody pick up the phone. Twice now I paid for things that are not delivered to us , I will not step a foot in there again. We are running a business and need other businesses to take it as seriously as we are.
Very sad about this service as the pastry’s quality are super good but the rest doesn’t follow.
If you are running a business and make an order I would highly suggest to order with someone else.

The worst customer service ever. We've tried twice and the staff was awfully rude and unfriendly. They could not help with the ingredients regarding allergy and when I requested them to have a look, they told me no because they couldn't be bothered.
They never wait the table. They don't offer to give you your receipt and when you ask for it, they complain.
When you ask for complimentary water, they bring one glass of water for the all table.
The only star is for the location.

Tips for Enjoying Bakeries in Saint-Tropez
While visiting these exceptional establishments is a treat in itself, a little local knowledge goes a long way in enhancing your experience. The rhythm of a French bakery is specific, and understanding the etiquette, timing, and seasonal variations will help you blend in seamlessly with the locals. Here are some practical tips to ensure you get the freshest products and the most authentic experience during your culinary tour of the town.
- Go Early for the Best Selection: In France, the bakery is a morning ritual. If you want the widest selection of croissants, pains au chocolat, and specialty breads, arrive before 9:00 AM. By midday, many of the most popular viennoiseries will be sold out, especially during the peak summer season.
- Know Your Bread: Don’t just ask for "bread." Specify what you need. A baguette tradition is the gold standard, made with strict regulations and no additives, offering a denser crumb and crispier crust than a standard baguette blanche. If you prefer a sourdough-style loaf, ask for pain au levain.
- Handle the Tarte Tropézienne with Care: This local specialty, filled with a delicate orange blossom cream, is highly perishable. If you are buying one to take to the beach or back to a hotel room, ask the vendor if they have ice packs or ensure you eat it within a few hours. It must be kept cool to maintain its signature texture.
- Cash and Small Change are King: While most bakeries now accept credit cards, especially in tourist-heavy Saint-Tropez, carrying some cash (particularly coins and small notes) is advisable. It speeds up the transaction for you and is greatly appreciated by the staff during the busy morning rush.
- Embrace the Savory Side: Don’t limit yourself to sweets. French bakeries excel at savory items like fougasse (a Provençal flatbread often studded with olives or lardons), quiches, and fresh sandwiches on crusty baguettes. These make for a far superior and more affordable lunch option than many sit-down restaurants overlooking the port.
The bakeries of Saint-Tropez offer more than just sustenance; they provide a delicious lens through which to view the culture of the French Riviera. Taking the time to step out of the high-end boutiques and into a warm, flour-dusted shop allows you to connect with the authentic rhythms of village life. It is a moment of simple, grounded pleasure amid the glitz.
Whether you are biting into a crunchy baguette as the sun rises over the Mediterranean or savoring the last crumbs of a mille-feuille after a long day on Pampelonne Beach, these experiences linger in the memory. The mastery of the bakers ensures that the flavors of Saint-Tropez—citrus, almonds, and rich butter—are ones you will long to return to, long after the tan has faded.
