Nestled where the Seine meets the English Channel, Honfleur is a painter’s dream of weathered slate facades, bobbing fishing boats, and the ever-present scent of salt air. Yet beyond its postcard-perfect harbor and Impressionist legacy, this Normandy gem has quietly cultivated a reputation as a serious culinary destination. While seafood naturally takes center stage, the town’s steakhouse scene has evolved into a compelling reason to visit for carnivores and gourmands alike.
The Norman countryside is renowned for its rich pastures, producing some of France’s most prized cattle breeds and, consequently, exceptionally flavorful beef. Local chefs leverage this agricultural bounty, pairing premium cuts with regional dairy, cider, and Calvados-infused sauces. Dining on steak in Honfleur is not just a meal; it is a study in terroir, connecting the lush green hills of the Pays d’Auge directly to your plate.
However, navigating a town so heavily trafficked by tourists requires discernment. For every hidden bistro grilling over open flames, there is a tourist trap serving frozen fries and overcooked meat. To truly experience the best of Honfleur’s bovine offerings, one must look beyond the immediate harbor front and seek out establishments that prioritize sourcing, aging, and the art of the perfect sear.
We have scoured the cobblestone alleys and timber-framed squares to bring you a curated guide to the finest meat-centric tables in town. Whether you crave a classic entrecôte with shallot sauce, a massive côte de bœuf for two, or a modern interpretation of surf and turf, this list balances traditional Norman hospitality with contemporary culinary precision.
From intimate, candlelit cellars to bustling brasseries with views of the Vieux Bassin, the variety is impressive. These restaurants are celebrated not only for the quality of their beef but also for their mastery of classic French sauces, from peppercorn to Roquefort, and their commitment to the perfect accompaniment—be it hand-cut frites or a gratin Dauphinois.
Before you pull up a chair and tie on a napkin, remember that dining in Honfleur is an experience to be savored. The French approach to steak is often different from the American or British standard; "saignant" (rare) is the default recommendation, and the meat is usually served thinly sliced against the grain. Trust the chef, order a glass of structured Bordeaux or a local artisanal cider, and prepare for a memorable meal.

Nice staff, and a cozy, beautiful place that used to be a metal workshop. The carpaccio and scallop starters are excellent.
A bit pricey, but you're paying for the experience as well. In any case, you can always look up the menu online before you visit.

I’m quite confused by our dinner at La Ferronnerie. The space is lovely, but there were several disappointing aspects of the experience. We ordered a steak that we were told would take about 30 minutes to prepare, but it took nearly an hour and a half to arrive and was overcooked. The Comté dish was especially disappointing—it arrived as a cold, bland paste, which didn’t seem to match the menu description. Service was also lacking: we were not offered more water, and communication about the delays was poor (we were told “five more minutes,” but it was closer to 25 minutes). We did enjoy the fish, the burger, and the pasta side dish and I appreciated that they were able to bring out my kids food right away. We were a large group, so perhaps the restaurant was overwhelmed this evening, but overall the experience didn’t live up to our expectations.

We’ve been here tonight for dinner. We had such a great experience! the 7-minutes egg and the normandy sirloin steak were perfectly cooked, however we owe a special mention to Annies (maybe I didn’t perfectly understand the name) and the whole waitstaff for their kindness and patience in giving us advices and explanations, which is not so obvious! Thanks again for everything. I highly recommend this place, wish to come back soon

Absolutely fantastic dining here. Options are varied, tasty, prepared with care, and all sensibly priced. Would love to see a green salad option too, but they have only been open one month. Staff wonderful…..one of the best meals we have had in last 6 months…..Do not miss this!

Definitely come eat here. Gravlax was delicate and nicely cured. Faux filet normand sauce was absolutely exquisite, and they handled my gluten intolerance smoothly. Staff were warm and attentive.

Really nice spot right in front of the harbour, so the view is beautiful and it’s a lovely place to sit and watch the boats and people go by. The prices are a little high for the portions. I had the salmon and avocado toast, which was quite small, but the taste was really good! 🤤
The tarte Tatin for dessert absolutely hit the spot — it was SO good! My boyfriend enjoyed his dish a little less as he found it lacking in flavour, but overall we had a nice experience. The staff were also really friendly and welcoming. A great spot to relax and enjoy the harbour!

Delicious food friendly service. Horrendous music!
Saw this place on Google reviews with one of the the highest scores so decided to visit.
Friendly service and the food was delicious, albeit quite pricey. Fish soup was very tasty and lobster with pasta was superb but the whole experience was completely ruined by the horrendous eurotrash 90s dance music mix which gave me indigestion and totally killed the relaxing atmosphere of the port.
Change the music and I'd be back like a shot. Otherwise give it a miss.

The best meal I’ve had in France so far!
We started with the mussels in cream sauce, and they were absolutely divine. The sauce was rich, flavorful, and perfect for soaking up with bread. The oysters were also super fresh.
The tagliatelle homard was the star of the meal. You could really taste the quality of the ingredients—the fresh herbs, the beautifully balanced sauce, and the lobster itself. The portion was generous, with a whole lobster included, and it was incredibly juicy, fresh, and delicious.
Every element of the dish was executed perfectly. A memorable meal and a restaurant I would happily return to.

I went with friends and waited for 5minutes to get seat. Staff was friendly and helpful even though they spoke little English. Food was good especially lobsters. The Normandy dessert was good. It seems bit overpriced but worthy for the price. Outside was crowded

A fantastic restaurant- you could tell the staff are happy to be there! The crepes we had were delicious and filling. We tried the Normandie and the pepper steak. Very comfortable chairs and such a pretty view! My favourite of our trip so far.

The service is very friendly and the atmosphere is pleasantly trying to mimic a US Dinner. The Entrecôte turn out to big waste of money. The meat quality was very low and not salted at all. Fries were also mediocre and the Pepsi was watered down. I guess it is the only open option to eat after 9 PM but I would not come back again.
Keith Bates★★☆☆☆
Staff seemed a bit miserable, what with the attitude and rushed service we didn't feel that welcome. My son still had food in his mouth when the waitress whipped our plates away. Definitely not a place to go for an 'experience'. Food is expensive what what it is and if you want a true American experience do not come here! Allergy warning: be very careful when ordering as nuts seemed to be liberally applied.
Frederik★☆☆☆☆
"The greasier, the pleasanter" is the motto of this restaurant.
My salad and burrata were swimming in balsamic vinegar.
And it was so hot and stifling inside, it was truly unhealthy.
The chef, with his sweaty shirt and face, was really not hygienic.
I would definitely not recommend this place.
Leanne Smith★★★☆☆
We had food here last night as we were staying across the road at the ibis as my husband was looking forward to trying the American themed restaurant. Service was brilliant, the staff were friendly and despite French not being my husbands first language the waiter understood our order.
The little bowl of nuts with your drinks was a pleasant surprise- thank you.
However the “swimming pool” cocktail was somewhat disappointing considering the large price tag it carries.
My husband enjoyed his food, I however could not stomach to eat the chicken wings as what was monstrous about them was that they had uncooked skin still attached; did attempt to remove the skin however the chicken was cold and not appetising, the bbq sauce was not nice at all either so I only ate the fries. The meal and drinks cost 63€ in total. I will be returning to Honfleur in the near future as I loved it there but I will definitely be giving Oncle Scotts a miss.

Still sat here waiting for our plates to be cleared 25 minutes after finishing our meal. Only 6 people in the restaurant. Server didn't want to know us. Completely not interested. Whatever we choose to eat was not available ( surprise, surprise). When the food did arrive it was completely the wrong order. Server dissappeared again and did not come back to our table, he completely ignored us.
Avoid this place at all costs.

A magical time with an artist, full of love and passion. One of our best culinary experiences in a very unexpected place. We paid 150€ for 2 and we'll be back for another of Leandro's menu some day.

A wonderful dining experience!! Plan ahead and make your reservation a day in advance for one of the best meals of your life. The cook and proprietor- Leo - ensured we had the most amazing dining experience. The ingredients (breads, meats cheeses, wines, etc.) are all thoughtfully chosen and grown/made in the region / close to the restaurant. Do yourself a favor and escape Honfleur’s busy downtown for a unique and delicious meal situated in a beautiful garden that’s also in the shadow of a trampoline park, which only adds interest and whimsy to the experience. Leo will be happy to recommend wines to pair with your meal — take his advice! He’s a pro and his choices helped elevate our meal. Easily my best meal in Honfleur.

We live in the area, but last night was the first time we had tried this place. We went with 2 of our adult sons. The food was excellent and the portions are generous. We especially liked the pork with a smoked cream sauce. The service was also very good, friendly and knowledgeable. We will certainly go back!

There are few places in life where you truly experience another persons passion, culture, and craft. If you’re looking for an authentic, well defined, distinguished experience, then look no further. With compassionate attention to your individual experience, the owner/master chef, enables you to fully appreciate each particularly crafted course. (Hint: ask for their pairing for wines). If you’re looking for a unique, awe inspiring sensational food experience, then this is your hidden gem.

So glad that we found this wine bar !!! 🍷🧀
The owners were very friendly and their recommendations for the charcuterie board and wine pairing were spot on. The large photograph of the All Blacks rugby Haka was taken by the owner. Would certainly recommend this venue, there is also extra space upstairs with views of the church.

Adorable wine bar on a quiet picturesque street just steps away from the crowds. The owner is lovely. Extensive regional wine selection along with light snacks. Highly recommend!

Very good wine bar worth a visit if you are in Honfleur! An absolutely incredible experience! We took a road trip through Normandy and discovered this wonderful restaurant in Honfleur. Some travel guides even call it one of the best restaurants in the city — and we can definitely see why!
The restaurant itself is absolutely beautiful, with such a calm and elegant atmosphere. It’s honestly hard to put into words how delicious the food was. We had a wonderful evening and were even lucky enough to meet the chef afterwards, which made the experience even more special.
Highly recommend this place!

On Christmas Day, we had the great pleasure of enjoying a seven-course meal at Le Lingot—an exceptional experience in every way.
The menu was intuitively and ingeniously put together by the chef on the day and was impressive in every way. Whether it was lobster, scallops, caviar with oysters, or the perfectly cooked sous-vide veal with freshly grated truffles – every single course was culinary excellence and characterized by excellent product quality.
The service was attentive, warm, and perfectly coordinated. The cozy, intimate atmosphere, accompanied by atmospheric chanson music, lent the evening a very special elegance.
A particular highlight was the personal finale, when we had the opportunity to thank Frédéric personally for this wonderful meal. An evening of the highest standard – excellent and absolutely recommendable!

If you want a dining experiences like no other, make a reservation and go to Le Lingot. The Chef (Fred) prepares amazing dishes daily. There is no set menu, but go there with an open mind to be surprised and have your taste buds overwhelmed with amazing flavors. Don’t skimp and do only the 4 or 6 course. Splurge and do the full menu, you will not be disappointed. The wine selection is vast, start out with a glass of Champagne and then do a bottle that pairs well with the evening selection. They have multiple price points. The atmosphere is so elegant and nice. This is one of the top 3 restaurants I’ve ever dined. If you have a special someone and want a special dinner experience don’t miss this in Honfleur.

We had an amazing evening in this incredibly beautiful restaurant in the middle of Honfleur.

So if you want to spend a very special night with all sorts of different tastes, you have got to come here!

I was nervous about eating here and being served what they cooked rather than being able to order what I wanted, but it was amazing. One of the best restaurants I ever ate in with fantastic service in a cozy and beautiful setting. All 7 courses were excellent. This restaurant deserves at least one Michelin star if not more and the price was very reasonable for the quality. If you are in town I would highly recommend reserving a table.

We had a fabulous dinner to celebrate my boyfriend’s birthday and were charmed by this restaurant. The interior has a great theme with sausage dogs and makes you want to explore every single corner. The menu has an Asian cuisine twist and everything is beautifully prepared and presented. The upside down bowl and the salad were both excellent and the drinks were of great quality and price (very good Prosecco for anyone that has missed a glass of this).

Cute little restaurant that we enjoyed very much, African and French vibes together, the chef makes a great combination. We were lucky to find a seat for two without reservation. We tried the shrimp tempura, hamburger and the famous upside down. All delicious with combination to great vines.
A must try local option in Honfleur as there are a lot of touristic restaurants which I did not like. It is a dog friendly restaurant and you can see and pet Sissi there, she is really cute. The owners and the service were implacable. If we come to Honfleur again, we will definitely do another visit to this lovely restaurant.

Great little find in Honfleur. We went there for Friday lunch. I ordered the midi lunch option and all food was top notch and excellently executed. Definitely worth the additional money spent in comparison to the other local options. The self made Calvados / Strawberry mix was a great conclusion to an awesome experience. They even made us feel very welcome with a 19 month old.

Not bad, we were expecting a bit more on the food, it wasn't as tasty as it did look and probably not at the level of the price, but was good enough. The service was a bit messy but nothing catastrophic. It was all "good but not enough" hence a rating of 4.

This was a really fun little place, not quite as touristy as all the other places. Absolutely fantastic choice of burgers and incredibly friendly staff. They’ve managed to turn a classic hamburger into a truly French experience. The highlight is their creative twist—bringing the flavors of a tartiflette into a burger. Rich, comforting, and full of character, a perfect example of how tradition and creativity can come together. A must-try if you want something different yet authentically French.
And the staff is great.

Great place for a hamburger with a gluten-free bun! If you’re looking for a tasty burger with a gluten-free option, this spot is a great choice. The fries were delicious too! If you’d like to sit inside, it’s best to call ahead and make a reservation a day in advance. I’m not sure if they offer an English menu, so that’s something to keep in mind. The restaurant is located on a quiet side street, away from the busy crowds, which made the experience even more enjoyable.

American style, homemade burgers with European flair, including a burrata burger. The skin-on fries are freshly made. They also have a variety of simple but satisfying salads, like fried chicken and smoked salmon. They have a few beers on tap and more bottled beers including a porter. There's only a few tables inside so make a booking, but there's plenty of outdoor seating.

Went here for dinner just from the glowing reviews ive seen of it online! We asked to be seated in the heated outdoor dining area as we had three dogs with us and they happily obliged. We were served some light snacks while waiting for our meal.
The place was packed at 7:30pm and if you want to be seated inside, calling to reserve a table is highly recommended. The only downside of a popular restaurant is the wait time, but it is well worth it! 💖 Both the dishes we ordered were definitely impressive. The fish were cooked still tender and moist. It was interesting to have tagliatelle veggies to go with the fish! Ingredients were fresh and delicious. Prices are on the above average side, but i was very happy with my overall experience!
Sadly the dessert was a big lackluster and was nothing particularly special. It almost taste as if it were store bought and plated. In any case, despite this dish, everything was lovely and i had a pleasant experience and still recommend this restaurant!
Despite the crowd, the service didn't suffer and the staff were courteous and friendly, even offering you an english menu if needed.

We had a lovely time having dinner here. To be honest we didn't expect it to be a surprise menu but it turned out really great. If you see Alain don't forget to have a good joke with him, he made our evening. We'll be happy to visit again

I came alone this Friday evening. But I didn’t feel lonely at all because the service was very kind and friendly. The waitress was really professional (credits to her). The food was very high standards. I ate fish and was really delighted with what they served. The desert was also very nice. Overall this was a great experience. I highly recommend and will be back! Bravo

My wife and I booked a table for us and our two small dogs on the Friday evening as part of a one night stopover in Honfleur. Both chose the fish option 3 course menu. All dishes were simple but well presented, beautifully cooked, and fresh using seasonal ingredients. Menu was well balanced, and they were very considerate toward my gluten free requirement (but best to advise this in advance). We were lucky enough to have live music in the square, so it made for a nice relaxing evening and the serving staff were fantastic. Looking forward to coming back!

What the fish happened in the kitchen today? God knows. Service was delayed and slow.
Could see many impatient faces just wondering what was going on.
For $240 for the food we had for two, I would say skip this tourist trap and eat better elsewhere.
You are told from the start that you can’t choose what’s in the set menu . Well we were game to try . But it wasn’t a real culinary experience. More like an amateur chef trying his hand at cooking.
who wants a chocolate killer dessert when you dislike chocolate??? No choices absolutely. Horrible experience.
Tips for Choosing the Perfect Steakhouse in Honfleur
While the list above offers a reliable starting point, the "best" steakhouse often depends on your specific mood, budget, and company. Honfleur’s dining landscape is diverse, and knowing how to navigate the local customs and menus will significantly elevate your experience. Here are a few insider tips to ensure you get the perfect cut every time you dine out in this Norman port.
Book ahead, especially on weekends. Honfleur is one of the most popular weekend getaways for Parisians. The best tables, particularly those with harbor views or in intimate cellars, are reserved days or even weeks in advance. Walking in without a reservation often means settling for a lesser option or eating very early.
Understand the French doneness scale. In France, "medium rare" often translates closer to what other countries might consider rare. If you prefer a warm pink center, order "à point." If you want no pink at all, ask for "bien cuit," but be aware that many French chefs are reluctant to cook premium beef this way as it can compromise texture.
Look for "Race Normande" or local sourcing. The finest restaurants will proudly display the origin of their beef. Seeing terms like "Bœuf de Normandie" or "Race Normande" on the menu indicates a commitment to the region’s heritage cattle. This local beef is known for its deep flavor and marbling, a direct result of the region’s lush, rainy climate.
Don’t skip the sauces. While a great steak needs little more than salt and butter, French cuisine excels in sauces. A classic Sauce au Poivre (peppercorn), Sauce Roquefort (blue cheese), or a Norman apple-infused jus can transform an excellent piece of meat into an unforgettable dish. Trust the house specialty.
Embrace the "Formule" or set menu. Many high-end brasseries offer a "Formule" or "Menu du Marché" that includes a starter, main course (often a steak option), and dessert for a fixed price. This is almost always the best value for money and allows you to sample the chef’s full range of skills without breaking the bank.
Stepping out into the cool Norman evening after a rich, satisfying meal is one of the great pleasures of visiting Honfleur. The salt air mixes with the lingering memory of wood smoke and pepper, and the gentle clinking of masts in the harbor provides a soothing soundtrack. It is a sensory experience that ties the landscape directly to the plate.
Whether you opt for a rustic tavern with a roaring fire or a sleek, modern dining room overlooking the water, the steakhouses of Honfleur offer more than just protein. They offer a window into the soul of Normandy—generous, unpretentious, and deeply connected to the land. So take your time, linger over that last glass of Pommeau, and enjoy the culinary journey.
