12 Best Seafood Restaurants in Honfleur

Honfleur’s cobbled lanes, timber-framed facades, and bustling Vieux Bassin have long made it a magnet for travelers seeking Norman charm. Yet beyond the painters’ easels and antique shops lies a serious culinary destination shaped by the sea. The town’s position at the mouth of the Seine gives its kitchens direct access to some of the freshest seafood in northern France.

Dining here is not a uniform experience. You can choose between a polished table with views of the bobbing masts, a rustic bistro tucked behind the Sainte-Catherine church, or a simple counter serving oysters shucked to order. Each setting offers a different way to taste the Channel’s bounty.

The local repertoire extends far beyond the familiar moules-frites. Expect to find sole meunière, Norman-style skate, herring prepared with apples, and platters piled with shellfish from the surrounding Côte Fleurie. Honfleur’s chefs respect tradition, but many also bring a contemporary lightness to these classic flavors.

Because the port attracts so many visitors, quality can vary dramatically from one address to the next. A restaurant with a prime harbor view does not always guarantee a memorable meal. Knowing where locals eat, and where the seafood is handled with genuine care, makes all the difference.

Seasonality matters here. Scallops are at their peak in winter, while summer favors delicate sole, mackerel, and langoustines. The best kitchens adjust their menus to what the boats bring in, rather than relying on frozen imports.

This guide focuses on restaurants that consistently deliver excellent seafood, honest cooking, and a true sense of place. Whether you want a long, celebratory lunch or a quick dozen oysters between sightseeing stops, the following selection will point you toward the right table.

One of the best meals (and definitely best value) we’ve had in France!! The food was delicious, service was excellent and helpful with food allergies (most of the menu is gluten free), and beautiful ambience. Highly recommend!!

Highly recommended! Great and tasty food, very friendly service. We would love to come back again! ❤️

A lovely seafood restaurant in the town of Honfleur. Me and my family had our first dinner here in our France trip. The atmosphere was very elegant, the service very helpful, and the food was good quality. 🐟
Glen Vaal★★★★★
This restaurant is very popular with good reason. They serve a wide range of very fresh seafood. I had a selection as a starter which included: oysters, king prawn, langoustine, winkles, wells and clams. The main courses are also excellent, though my traditional fish soup was too large for me to finish. The wine list is excellent and you won't pay a fortune for very good wine. Because they are busy, service seemed a bit rushed, but forgive them, they really care and deliver a high quality experience (NB a little french language knowledge will help you)

Cozy atmosphere in a scenic little town. Expert and fast service, we were on a tight schedule and the waiter went out of his way to make sure we could have everything we ordered in time. Would reccomend easily to anyone.

We’ve eaten all over the world and had some Fantastic meals…and this was in the top 3, easily. Saddened we’re only in beautiful Honfleur 1 night or we’d go straight back. Simply exquisite food.

This is where we ate during the small group tour to Honfleur and Mont Saint-Missen in France. The restaurant was very pretty and the food was delicious.
Catherine Decat★★★★★
Best meal of my life!! The seasoning was rich and harmonious, it was so incredibly good that my eyes got wet. The decoration inside the restaurant was adorable too. Loved the view from the second floor. Definitely a must visit place in Honfleur.
Jen Ko★★★★★
Excellent food that is beautifully presented. We’ve eaten a lot of different meals on this trip and this restaurant was definitely a highlight. The waitstaff was also friendly and kind which has not always been the case for us in Northern France. Thank you for the wonderful experience!

The bouillabaisse has way too many mussels, and the fish is overcooked and falling apart. I think it was boiled a second time as it didn’t seem also very fresh. We were 2 persons and asked right from the start if the portion offered for 45 euros was for two people, and we were told no! So we ordered also another main course. In the end, the bouillabaisse was left on the plate—it was a disproportionately large portion for one person—and we paid a lot for something mediocre and overly large. Nothing to write home about...!

Amazing oysters and a beautiful atmosphere right by the port. Everything tasted incredibly fresh, the service was friendly and attentive, and the whole experience felt very authentic and relaxing. Definitely one of my favorite spots during the trip. Would love to come back again.
Paul H★★★★★
very busy spot - but they had a table and we enjoyed the food and service. Oysters were fresh and well served. moules frites was tasty - chips rather than fries which seems to be the Normandy way! Good service. Nice place.

The female staff member who greeted us was unbelievably rude, arrogant and hostile. Her behavior was absolutely disgraceful. Honfleur is a beautiful and welcoming town, but people like her seriously damage its reputation and are an embarrassment to local hospitality. Shameful service.
Martijn van Keulen★★★★★
A great experience with the family! We had reserved in advance, which appeared to be quite necessary, when we arrived at 7pm. The restaurant was quite packed at 7.15. We had our little dog with us, which was no issue. The service was excellent, the food as well. We didn't have to wait long for the food to arrive. All 4 of us had the best time. The dog slept through the whole experience😀

We took dinner here on the first night of our trip and after visiting another restaurant the following evening wished we had come back for a second visit . Very good food, service and atmosphere. We took one of the set meals which was really nice and very good value. We would definitely come back to the restaurant again if in town

We had a lovely lunch experience. The Daurade Ceviche was fresh and yummy (good to ask for more lemon). The bouillabaisse was tasty. The choucroute de la mer was the best in my opinion. The atmosphère was nice and quiet and service was good and very friendly.

Fantastic lunch, we tried quite a few things given our limited but relaxed timeframe in Honfleur. Warm & inviting with excellent service from all servers, they bagged some good leftovers for our chauffeur as well. We opted for fish soup and fired squid enteees, then beautiful mixed charcuterie, rib steak, salads and desserts as well as a nice red bottle of wine. The cheeses and cold cuts were exquisite as you would expect, salads were right on point. The soufflé was Amazingly light and delicious as well as coffee gourmand. We savored our meal and felt this a great value for the money, do not hesitate!
Nick M★★★★★
Great food and service. Thibaud is a classy waiter with a good sense of humour. Very good service.
Kristel Van Loock★★★★★
Charming restaurant with a warm interior, specialised in oysters and seasonal seafood and nicely located in front of the harbour of Honfleur. The staff were very friendly and all the dishes we had were delicious. Highly recommended when in Honfleur!
Uzi★☆☆☆☆
A joke! Cod fillet was soft but bland and overpowered with strong soya sauce. Ordered chips instead of broccoli puree and waiter was nice to change it but got overcooked, burnt chips instead. Plus the food was expensive with respect to the quality as well as quantity. Service and atmosphere was good but food was absolute shite. Waste of money!
Anna★★★★☆
I had high expectations for L'Absinthe Restaurant given the strong reviews, but unfortunately the experience didn’t live up to them. The service was disappointing — our waiter came across as arrogant and not particularly attentive. The food itself wasn’t terrible, but it was definitely underwhelming. When you’re on holiday in a place like Normandy, you expect meals to be memorable — this wasn’t one of them. The biggest letdown was dessert: I ordered a Normandy cheese selection and received just two very small pieces, which felt poor value for the price. Before going in, I mentioned to my friend that port-side restaurants often rely on passing tourist traffic rather than quality — I was hoping this would be an exception, but it wasn’t. Overall, not a terrible experience, but certainly not one I’d recommend when there are likely much better options nearby.

Great atmosphere, service and quality of food. We had our first dinner in Honfleur there and were charmed by the setting of the restaurant near the old wooden church and the elaborate menu with a lot of seafood choices.
Asli Yang★★★★★
Although we arrived earlier than our reservation time, we finished dining at 3:30 p.m. The staff served us with great patience and never gave the impression of being in a hurry to close. This is a restaurant that combines both delicious food and warmth.
P Tham★★★★★
Cosy restaurant that serves great food and friendly service. We went with the fixed menu, which gave us some great options. A few tables around us had seafood platters, which looked amazing.
Rian Gonzales★★★★★
Went here for dinner just from the glowing reviews ive seen of it online! We asked to be seated in the heated outdoor dining area as we had three dogs with us and they happily obliged. We were served some light snacks while waiting for our meal. The place was packed at 7:30pm and if you want to be seated inside, calling to reserve a table is highly recommended. The only downside of a popular restaurant is the wait time, but it is well worth it! 💖 Both the dishes we ordered were definitely impressive. The fish were cooked still tender and moist. It was interesting to have tagliatelle veggies to go with the fish! Ingredients were fresh and delicious. Prices are on the above average side, but i was very happy with my overall experience! Sadly the dessert was a big lackluster and was nothing particularly special. It almost taste as if it were store bought and plated. In any case, despite this dish, everything was lovely and i had a pleasant experience and still recommend this restaurant! Despite the crowd, the service didn't suffer and the staff were courteous and friendly, even offering you an english menu if needed.

Really nice spot right in front of the harbour, so the view is beautiful and it’s a lovely place to sit and watch the boats and people go by. The prices are a little high for the portions. I had the salmon and avocado toast, which was quite small, but the taste was really good! 🤤 The tarte Tatin for dessert absolutely hit the spot — it was SO good! My boyfriend enjoyed his dish a little less as he found it lacking in flavour, but overall we had a nice experience. The staff were also really friendly and welcoming. A great spot to relax and enjoy the harbour!
Ben Wood★★★☆☆
Delicious food friendly service. Horrendous music! Saw this place on Google reviews with one of the the highest scores so decided to visit. Friendly service and the food was delicious, albeit quite pricey. Fish soup was very tasty and lobster with pasta was superb but the whole experience was completely ruined by the horrendous eurotrash 90s dance music mix which gave me indigestion and totally killed the relaxing atmosphere of the port. Change the music and I'd be back like a shot. Otherwise give it a miss.
Mylé Chirapornsuk★★★★★
The best meal I’ve had in France so far! We started with the mussels in cream sauce, and they were absolutely divine. The sauce was rich, flavorful, and perfect for soaking up with bread. The oysters were also super fresh. The tagliatelle homard was the star of the meal. You could really taste the quality of the ingredients—the fresh herbs, the beautifully balanced sauce, and the lobster itself. The portion was generous, with a whole lobster included, and it was incredibly juicy, fresh, and delicious. Every element of the dish was executed perfectly. A memorable meal and a restaurant I would happily return to.
J N★★★★★
I went with friends and waited for 5minutes to get seat. Staff was friendly and helpful even though they spoke little English. Food was good especially lobsters. The Normandy dessert was good. It seems bit overpriced but worthy for the price. Outside was crowded
Rebecca Jamie★★★★★
A fantastic restaurant- you could tell the staff are happy to be there! The crepes we had were delicious and filling. We tried the Normandie and the pepper steak. Very comfortable chairs and such a pretty view! My favourite of our trip so far.

10/10👌🏻 The main course (pan-fried chicken) was extremely good. The starter (cauliflower-sesame cream) was also incredibly tasty – everything was just perfect. I honestly can’t say anything negative. On top of that, the atmosphere was amazing: very friendly, very warm and welcoming. We truly had a wonderful evening. Thank you so much🩷🙏🏽

Le Vieux Honfleur delivered a fantastic dining experience with exceptional dishes. I started with the shrimp and lentils, which were absolutely amazing—perfectly balanced and full of flavor. For the main, I had the grilled Dover sole with potatoes, and I must say, I’ve never had such a rich, flavorful fish. It was cooked to perfection and truly memorable. A great spot for anyone looking to enjoy high-quality seafood in a charming setting. Highly recommended!

The Polite Frenchy★★★☆☆
Tourist restaurant which is fine if you are searching for simple French and sea dishes. Upside : the terrasse is heated in winter, the service is good and you are able to see the fisherman prepare all seafood and fish dishes live in front of your eyes. Downside : food is simple, not elevated and price is too high for the quality of the food. I enjoyed my meal but will not go there again, much better, nicer, cheaper (or same price) places to go in Honfleur.

We popped in for a quick drink and ended up staying for the fish rillettes and crème brûlée. Even on a busy Saturday afternoon in Honfleur, we were able to grab an outdoor table since this spot is tucked just a block or two away from the busiest part of town. The experience felt wonderfully French 🇫🇷 sipping a local cider and a refreshing Monaco, enjoying fresh fish rillettes with crusty bread, and finishing with a silky, creamy crème brûlée. Simple, classic, and absolutely delicious. A perfect spot to slow down and enjoy the flavors and charm of Normandy.

OMG , it’s soo delicious. I couldn’t stop enjoying the freshest seafood. Must try for everyone. I had tuna tartare &scallops with pasta: the tase is just to die for🤤

Really enjoyed dining here after a lack lustre 'walk' around the overly packed small town and harbour of Honfleur. Luckily they had a free table for 4 as the rest of the place was fully booked. Staff were great and only too happy to help with meal and wine choices. Sea food was amazing and the delicious profiteroles were large enough for 2 to share 😋

Honfleur is our favorite town to stay overnight on our way to a Gîte-de-France for our annual autumn break. And for us, a dinner at Restaurant Le Corsaire is always part of Honfleur. As persistent as we are with holiday rituals, this restaurant is just as persistent with its menu. But there's plenty of choice, and unfortunately, we only dine here once a year. The ladies who serve us every year are extremely friendly and helpful. The atmosphere may be dated, but it's precisely this traditional interior with its abundance of red, green, and artificial flowers that really appeals to us. This restaurant takes me back more than 50 years to my childhood, to the holidays with my parents. And the most important thing, of course, is the food. You have a choice of different price ranges, but you can also eat very affordably. And the quality is always excellent, always a pleasure to look forward to, and always a satisfied feeling when we leave. À la prochaine, mesdames!
Andre Speek★★★★★
Great restaurant in a lovely town. Cozy outdoor seating with a nice view over the square at the classic wooden church. Food is very good, especially considering the low prices. Excellent wines too. You might expect a tourist trap here but it's definitely not. Delicious seafood, beautiful dishes and very nice service. You guessed it, highly recommended!
Indrajit Paul★★★★★
Very good food at a great price. The lady was so friendly. Excellent service. No rush. Very relaxed. We had a very nice conversation with her. Seemed like a restaurant run by the family. The food was great. We had the fruits de mer, cabilaud and the creme brulee. It was tasty. Portions are good. Menu at 15EUR is worth it.
Ralu Kha★★★★★
Excelent food in the perfect location. At two steps to the amazing Sainte Catherine church and surrounded by art galleries.

Good, home made, delicious food in a very cosy local 🙂 Nice food for a fair price in the heart of Honfleur! It is not a fancy restaurant, but we really enjoyed our dinner there.

Practical Tips for Choosing a Seafood Restaurant in Honfleur

The Vieux Bassin is beautiful, but its prime location often comes with higher prices and a more tourist-focused menu. To eat well in Honfleur, it helps to know how the local dining scene works. These practical tips will help you avoid common mistakes, find the freshest plates, and make the most of your budget.

Look beyond the harbor’s edge. Restaurants on the quai Sainte-Catherine and quai Saint-Etienne pay premium rents for the view, and some compensate with frozen or pre-prepared seafood. Walk two or three streets back into the old town or toward the Sainte-Catherine district. You will often find smaller, chef-run bistros where the cooking is more personal and the prices more honest.

Check the menu for seasonal Norman species. A trustworthy seafood restaurant in Honfleur will feature local catches such as sole, turbot, mackerel, herring, or scallops in season. If the menu relies heavily on salmon, prawns, or sea bass imported from far away, it may not be showcasing the region’s best produce. Ask your server what arrived fresh that morning.

Order the plateau de fruits de mer with realistic expectations. A seafood platter is a wonderful way to sample oysters, whelks, shrimp, and crab, but it is not always the best value at lunchtime. Platters are often priced for two and can be heavy before an afternoon of walking. If you want a lighter taste, order a half-dozen oysters and a glass of Muscadet instead.

Reserve ahead during summer and holiday weekends. Honfleur is one of Normandy’s most visited towns, and the best tables fill quickly from May through September. Even for a weekday lunch, a short phone call or online reservation can save you from settling for a mediocre tourist menu. Many of the smaller restaurants have limited seating.

Watch for the lunch formulas. Fixed-price lunch menus, usually called a formule or menu du jour, offer the best value in Honfleur. A two- or three-course seafood lunch at a respected bistro can cost significantly less than the same meal at dinner. This is also a smart way to try a top restaurant without committing to the higher evening prices.

Trust the simpler, seafood-focused menus. A short menu that changes with the market is a strong sign of a kitchen that cooks from scratch. Restaurants offering long, unchanging menus with dozens of dishes often rely on frozen ingredients. In Honfleur, the best seafood is often served with minimal fuss: a perfectly cooked fillet, a simple butter sauce, and good bread.

The pleasure of eating seafood in Honfleur goes beyond the food on the plate. It is the smell of the sea air, the sound of halyards against masts, and the knowledge that your meal likely arrived from the Channel only hours earlier. Choosing the right restaurant turns a simple lunch into a lasting memory of Normandy.

Take your time, ask questions, and let the season guide your choices. With a little planning and a willingness to wander away from the busiest corners of the port, you will discover why Honfleur remains one of France’s most rewarding seafood destinations.
