10 Best Vegetarian Restaurants in Honfleur

Honfleur’s cobbled lanes, timber-framed facades, and glittering Vieux Bassin have long made it a magnet for artists, romantics, and food lovers. But while the Norman port is famous for its seafood platters, creamy cheeses, and cider-braised meats, the vegetarian dining scene has quietly evolved into something genuinely exciting. Today, plant-focused travelers can explore the town’s culinary identity without compromising their values or their palate.

Gone are the days when a vegetarian in Normandy had to settle for a plate of fries and a side salad. From creative bistros tucked behind the Sainte-Catherine church to sun-dappled terraces near the estuary, Honfleur now offers thoughtful, seasonal, and beautifully plated meat-free dishes. Chefs are embracing local vegetables, legumes, herbs, and dairy in ways that honor the region’s produce-driven traditions.

This guide is built for visitors who want to eat well, whether they are strict vegans, ovo-lacto vegetarians, or simply looking to balance richer Norman meals with something lighter. It focuses on restaurants where vegetables are not an afterthought but the main event. You will find everything from elegant fine dining to casual lunch spots, each with a distinct personality and a genuine commitment to plant-based cooking.

Understanding the local dining rhythm matters. Many Honfleur restaurants close between lunch and dinner, and tables near the harbor fill quickly in summer. Booking ahead is wise, especially for dinner. Also note that French menus often list vegetarian options under “plats végétariens” or use a small leaf symbol, but not every kitchen is equally fluent in vegan requirements, so a polite phone call can save disappointment.

The following selection reflects independent research, local reputation, and a focus on flavor, atmosphere, and reliability. It is not a paid ranking. Each entry has been chosen because it consistently delivers quality vegetarian food in a town where tradition and tourism can sometimes overshadow dietary diversity. Whether you are here for a weekend or a week, you will find a table that feels like yours.

Use this list as your starting point. Then let your own curiosity guide you through the market stalls, boulangeries, and cider houses that make Honfleur one of Normandy’s most delicious destinations.

Lovely dinner here tonight, sat out in the sunshine on the outdoor tables. The host was very friendly and keen to help, and the food options were varied and interesting. 2 great vegetarian options (out of 5 total options!) so definitely vegetarian friendly. The meals were full of vegetables, tasted fresh and were made using seasonal ingredients. Drinks and desserts were tasty and local too! Highly recommend this little gem ☺️
Ema Husníková★★★★★
A wonderful experience in the heart of Honfleur Restaurant Sauvage is a true gem – beautiful setting, friendly staff, and excellent food. We enjoyed a perfectly cooked main course, a light and tasty poke bowl, and delicious desserts. We were especially impressed by the Duo cerise estragon – an original and beautifully balanced dessert that’s a treat for both the taste buds and the eyes. A lovely surprise was the homemade cider – well-balanced and perfectly complementing the meal. The price-to-quality ratio is excellent. We highly recommend this place to anyone who appreciates honest, creative cuisine with character and heart.

An incredible place. They mostly cater for take away orders but if you are lucky enough to spot a free table (one inside and two outside) go for it! The menu changes weekly, produce is local and organic and comes from the chef's parents garden; you can also taste apple cider and juice produced by his father. The food was simply scrumptious, so so delicious. A separate note on the place design, it is slick and minimalistic-ly chic. Highly recommend

During my recent business trip, I stumbled upon a hidden gem of a restaurant that caught my attention on Google. With only two tables, this intimate spot offers a thoughtfully curated menu featuring meat, vegetarian, and fish dishes. Although it lacks the extensive setup of larger establishments, the chef’s dedication to crafting each dish is evident in the flavors. Don’t miss the ultimate highlight: the French toast dessert, which is absolutely top-notch and worth the visit alone.
Matt Scheinman★★★★★
Incredible restaurant with a rotating menu and great concept. I would absolutely recommend this to anyone in Honfleur, especially those seeking creative and inspired takes using local ingredients. We had a wonderful experience and cannot recommend enough.

We were absolutely delighted! This restaurant was the culinary highlight of our stay in Honfleur. The food was outstanding and truly on the level of a Michelin-starred restaurant. Every dish was beautifully presented and full of incredible flavors. The service was exceptional—warm, attentive, and highly professional. The wine recommendations were excellent and paired perfectly with each course. We visited with our 4-year-old daughter and felt genuinely welcome from the moment we arrived. The staff was incredibly kind and attentive to her as well, making our family feel comfortable throughout the evening. For us, this is a true hidden gem. Surprisingly, there were very few tourists, which made the atmosphere even more authentic and enjoyable. We would return without hesitation and highly recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting Honfleur. A well-deserved 5 stars!

A reliable hidden gem in Honfleur. Highly recommended for quiet enjoyment of a meal beyond the Bassin's flashiness. Have come here for years. The proprietors have changed, but the commitment to hospitality continues. You will find a menu and wine list focused on quality.
Ashwyn Smyth★★★★★
This is a wonderful restaurant. The food is utterly divine with a creative and well thought out menu. Probably one of te best meals I have ever had
Farsin Derakhshan★★★★★
Simply the BEST restaurant in Honfleur. Every year I come here, I must eat here. The food is locally sourced and the preparation is top notch, which might mean a slightly smaller menu, but the food is worth it. Absolutely an amazing restaurant and warm and friendly staff. The prawn appetizers were great, as was the butternut squash soup, and the duck was phenomenal. You simply can’t go wrong with this restaurant.
Jackie Harding★★★★☆
A reasonably priced meal which was very pleasant, if not Earth-shattering. The place has a nice atmosphere but the lighting could be toned down for better ambiance. The waitress was friendly & helpful with an understanding of gluten free requirements even if it meant removing items rather than being creative with the food. It was refreshing to have interesting vegetarian dishes on a menu.

Omg. Just wow. We were absolutely starving after flying into paris and driving over and decided on the prefix lunch. What a treat that was. A little yogurt with a fruit jam and a biscuit to start with, along with a coffee product and a juice blend, followed by a dish with salad, savory biscuits, smoked turkey/salmon, eggs, potatoes. When we were in a food coma, they brought another sampler of 4 desserts. All absolutely delicious! This gem makes a trip to honfluer worth it in its own.
Jean Pierre Bisilliat★★★★☆
Loved everything about this place. I gave 4 stars because they really should have a totally separate menu for the items they serve at different times. I saw things I wanted but couldn’t get both time I went. The food was delicious and the croissants are perfection! The dish with sweet potato waffles was spectacular! See photo..
anna bewley★★★★★
A must during your stay in Honfleur. We love the food, the service is always excellent, very kid friendly and there is a lovely atmosphere! Definitely order the pain perdu.
Regina Paltis★★★★☆
I have mixed feelings about this place. We arrived between breakfast and lunch. We were seated right away but it took us 10 mins to get a menu and then another 5 mins for a waitress to take our drink order and we didn't get our drinks for 25 mins after that. By this point, I was pretty mad. Eventually our food was brought out, and it was very good, so that made up for the wait slightly. My recommendation would be to come here after 11 am. Anything before that is super slow and the menu is very minimal before that time. On a positive note, it's a very cute atmosphere, both inside and outside. The issue seemed to be a lack of staff. What appeared to be a husband and wife team, they were both very nice when they came by, but very elusive because it was just the two of them. Food was yummy.
Paul Cook★★★★★
Wonderful, very accommodating and had wonderful breakfasts. The chef was lovely to chat to and sorted my wife’s breakfast to cater for her gluten intolerance. Lovely style and ambience to the place as well.

The service was very nice. We enjoyed the wine recommendation and also dessert. However, the main course that we ordered was not up to expectation. Octopus was super rubbery (our fault for not voicing out). The potato that came with the steak was burnt. However, the service was good!

L'Oxalis was a really lovely dining experience overall. The service stood out right from the start — we were initially seated inside, but when we asked to move outdoors to enjoy the beautiful square, the staff were more than happy to accommodate us. Throughout the meal, the waiters were incredibly attentive, regularly checking in to make sure everything was okay. They were warm, friendly, and genuinely welcoming, which made a big difference. The food was superb. The oysters were fresh, the foie gras was rich and delicious, and the mains were excellent — we had the lamb and the salmon, both cooked perfectly. The only small downside was the menu selection, as I would have liked to see a bit more seafood on offer. Dessert was decent, though not quite as strong as the rest of the meal. I tried the mille-feuille out of curiosity, but it didn’t fully win me over. Overall, it’s a very good restaurant with fantastic service and high-quality food. I’d definitely recommend it.
Lauren Ashby★★★★★
Really excellent food. I had the fish of the day, served with a quinoa risotto in a saffron and shellfish sauce. My husband had the tataki. Both perfectly made. For our daughter it was fish of the day with best mashed potato ever and lovelycarrots. Kind and considerate wait staff. Great find!
Gee Thomson★★★★★
We’ve been in France, Brittany and Normandy for two weeks and to be frank the meals out - from cheap to expensive -have been mixed. However at L Oxalis we arrived at what we wanted from French cooking. Not overcomplicated, great sources, interesting choices, and fantastic tastes. A nice place to finish.
Dmitry K★★★★★
A wonderful restaurant showcasing the best of French cuisine. Fresh, locally sourced seafood takes center stage, complemented by attentive service and a creative menu with refined presentation. The oysters and shellfish are exceptionally fresh — truly a highlight of the dining experience.

From the warm welcome by the owner to the last au revoir, it was a delightful and delicious evening. The service was attentive. The food (manager’s husband is the chef) was fabulous…sweet-yet salty-oysters, sea bream tartare with an explosion of flavors, and the hake on leek with a light sesame flavor. Dessert was a light chocolate mousse with a light sprinkle of something akin to granola (gave a nice mix of texture). The restaurant has a beautiful decor and is not big…so make reservations. We felt the price of the food and wine was more than reasonable (especially being a tourist town)!!!
Ding Sun★★★★★
Every dish is delicious and has good presentation. I traveled in Paris, the Loire Valley, and Normandy for 2 weeks. This restaurant is my favorite, even better than Michelin-starred ones I've had.
Werner Busschots★★★★★
After two visits, we can honestly say this is one of our favorite restaurants. The food is honest, flavorful, and prepared with great care. The chef delivers consistently high quality, so you always know you're in for a great meal. The service is warm, enthusiastic, and genuinely welcoming. We're already looking forward to coming back and trying the rest of the menu. Highly recommended
RA Casa dos Pinhieros★★★★★
From the moment we tried to book to the moment we left the service was fantastic. Prompt replies to messages and phone calls. Service was brilliant and the food was excellent. Could not recommend this place enough thank you. We will be back!

A friendly concept (tea room + shop), “cozy” atmosphere refined teas, a very pleasant welcome by staff for a relaxed lunch with family. Highly recommended.
Stephen Lewis★★★★★
A short walk from the harbour and well worth it. A real oasis of peace and beautiful food. The garden at the rear is delightful and lovely to hear the birds, and burbling water, whilst eating.
Jayeeta Sengupta★★★★★
Cosy tastefully decorated colorful tearoom. Gives a cheerful vibe! The tea options were good! The waffle was the best, a combination of chocolate and pears, just yummy! Very much recommended when in Hornfleur.
Pakorn Tham★★★☆☆
Waffles are nice for both salty and sweet. Place is also lovely decorated. Yet I consider it's quite pricey for such waffles and 5 euro cappuccino.
Beat Müller★★★★☆
Very nice place in the heart of Honfleur. It looks like they offer very nice waffles and the diversity of tea is impressive. Unfortenately we just wanted to have a fine coffee, which was only mediocre. Also, no iced coffee. Still, the place is worth a visit!

Just came across this place while wandering around looking for lunch. Been in France for 17 days and this is the only place I have bothered to review... it was that good. Everything made to order (even the bread for the sandwich), fresh ingredients, great service, tasted amazing. Restaurant quality. 10/10 value for money. Photo does it absolutely no justice but it trust me it was banging.

Just got engaged and had some lunch here, this was by far, the best pizza we have ever had! Worth sacrificing a gluten intolerant day to taste so beauty and glory and suffer later. Let’s go Romain - great pizza!
Caroline Owen★★★★★
So yummy!! Fresh ingredients made to order. He even made extra effort to accommodate a nut allergy, which is very appreciated 🙂

Super tasty pizza! Alot of options, prepared with very fresh ingredients and alot of care. The owner loves to advise you and tell enthousiastically about his passion; your next meal.

Very tasty fresh Italian food with budget prices. The owner is friendly and speaks English. Be aware there is only one standing table & it's take away.

We had a fabulous dinner to celebrate my boyfriend’s birthday and were charmed by this restaurant. The interior has a great theme with sausage dogs and makes you want to explore every single corner. The menu has an Asian cuisine twist and everything is beautifully prepared and presented. The upside down bowl and the salad were both excellent and the drinks were of great quality and price (very good Prosecco for anyone that has missed a glass of this).
Gunsu Kiziltan★★★★★
Cute little restaurant that we enjoyed very much, African and French vibes together, the chef makes a great combination. We were lucky to find a seat for two without reservation. We tried the shrimp tempura, hamburger and the famous upside down. All delicious with combination to great vines. A must try local option in Honfleur as there are a lot of touristic restaurants which I did not like. It is a dog friendly restaurant and you can see and pet Sissi there, she is really cute. The owners and the service were implacable. If we come to Honfleur again, we will definitely do another visit to this lovely restaurant.
Richard Bacon★★★★★
We could not fault this place. The welcome was wonderful, the service fantastic and the food utterly delicious. We really appreciated the effort to understand our poor French and we really appreciated how welcome we were made to feel. Thank you again for a really lovely evening.
J N★★★★★
I went yesterday to get a dinner with my friends. The staff was very kind and offered a place to sit within 15minutes. I ordered beef with green peppers. It was tasty and yummy. Nice scenery to sit and eat outside.
Lisa★★★★★
After a long walk, we stopped at Sissi & Voltaire for a warm drink. We and our dog were given a very friendly welcome. The cosy atmosphere, the cheerful mood and warm welcome prompted us to spontaneously decide to eat something too. We are vegans and our wishes were taken into account as a matter of course and without any fuss. The food was extra delicious, beautifully presented and served quickly. We felt completely at home! Thank you very much for a wonderful stay, we would love to come back!

Close to Normandy and a town to die for. Prettiest gem of France 🇫🇷 and typical village style beaches with amazing food options. We tried this restaurant and was roadside seating outdoors and indoors. Excellent seafood heaven. Loved every bite and enjoyed the every second of amazing location in center of the village. Strongly recommended the town and restaurant.
Jean-Baptiste FOREST★★★★☆
Well located near the harbour, this spacious restaurant serves local dishes that are pretty tasty and good 👌 they also have high chairs to accommodate for families with little ones 👍 and for those who want to lunch early, they can serve the food before noon which is convenient when you have kids!
Natasa B.★★★★☆
Nice brasserie style food. Their classic burger for 13.50 was very tasty! Also their formule with 19.00 for 2 courses was good also. The poke bowl was nice and the piece of meat was nice too! The service was so and so as the one waiter started to speak Spanish to me and because i couldn't understand (as i speak Greek and French) I asked her politely to speak French to me. Later she was ignoring me and stopped talking to me! The other waitress instead was friendly and helpful! Overall, nice food at good prices in a touristy place like Honfleur!
Bernard Algharib★★★★★
We had a lovely experience at L’Alcyone in Honfleur! The staff were very welcoming and the atmosphere was warm and cozy, with both indoor and outdoor seating available. We tried “Le Clacos” – a baked Camembert served with potatoes and charcuterie – and it was absolutely delicious. The portion was generous and it was totally worth it. We also had the mijoté de veau au cidre, which was flavorful. For dessert, we went with the brioche façon pain perdu and the tartelette aux pommes – both were sweet and satisfying. Highly recommended if you’re in Honfleur and looking for a delicious and authentic experience!
Rian Gonzales★★★★★
Our b&b host recommend L'Alcyone as one of the best casual restaurants Honfleur has to offer so we took the bite and went for it. I'm happy it was well worth the rave as we've only had the best possible service during dinner. Despite the place buzzling with people even at 9pm, we were able to be seated outside with our 3 dogs (we were a group of 6). Our server offered a bowl of water for the dogs right away and he was very accommodating and nice. I knew mussels were a bit off season so i was not expecting them to be their usual size. Despite the smaller size, the mussels we were served were fresh and was flavorful. It was cooked just right and the servings were hefty. The Poulette version was hands down my favorite. The Camembert one was good but i felt it was too overpowering and can be a bit too overwhelming after a while to my taste The star of the show was definitely the Honfleur Stew! 💖 It had just the right amount of broth and flavor from the seafood and you are served with bread on the side to soak the soup with. I was overall happy with my experience in this restaurant and it definitely lived up to its glowing reviews! 💖

Nice looking place, tasty food and pleasant service. J’adore tiramisu! Merci☺️

A very pleasant brasserie for a meal with quality dishes. Just one small drawback regarding the portion sizes. The salad is quite decent, but the steak tartare is a bit small considering the price. Otherwise, the service is quick and the staff very pleasant and professional.

An ideal brasserie for a quick lunch! The staff is welcoming and friendly, the menu is varied, and there's something for everyone. The food is simple, generous, and good quality—perfect for an efficient lunch break without compromising on taste. And when the sun is shining, the terrace is a real bonus: very pleasant for enjoying a good meal outdoors. I recommend this place for a quick, tasty, and hassle-free meal!
JB★★★★★
An excellent place! The food is delicious, prepared with fresh, homemade ingredients. The daily specials are varied and always high quality. The staff is very pleasant, welcoming, and friendly, which makes the experience even more enjoyable. A brasserie I highly recommend, whether with friends, family, or colleagues; the service is quick and efficient!
Lulu Belle★★★★★
We had a wonderful lunch! The starter and main course were delicious (roasted leeks with gribiche sauce, tuna tataki with avocado mousse), and my partner especially enjoyed the tomato pesto and parmesan. We had a lovely meal on the terrace where our dogs were welcome. And as an added bonus, our waiter had a great sense of humor (I forgot to ask his name). It was a great experience, and we'll definitely be back.

Tips for Finding Vegetarian Food in Honfleur

A little local knowledge goes a long way when you are eating plant-based in a historic fishing port. These practical tips will help you avoid common frustrations, communicate clearly with restaurant teams, and discover dishes that go beyond the standard tourist menu. Keep them in mind whether you are booking a special dinner or simply looking for a quick, satisfying lunch between gallery visits.

Learn a few key French phrases. Saying “Je suis végétarien” or “Je suis végétarienne” clearly and with a smile opens more doors than pointing at a menu. For vegans, “Je ne mange pas de produits laitiers, ni d’œufs, ni de miel” is essential. Many chefs appreciate the clarity and will often prepare something off-menu if you ask politely before ordering.

Book dinner tables in advance. Honfleur is compact and popular, and the best vegetarian-friendly kitchens are often small. A same-day walk-in can work at lunchtime, but evening service fills quickly, especially from May through September. When you reserve, mention your dietary preference so the kitchen has time to prepare rather than improvise under pressure.

Explore the Wednesday and Saturday markets. The marché around the Sainte-Catherine area is a treasure trove of local vegetables, goat cheeses, artisan breads, and seasonal fruit. Even if you are not cooking, it is a great way to understand what is fresh and local. Many stalls offer ready-to-eat vegetarian quiches, tarts, and salads that make for a perfect picnic by the Vieux Bassin.

Do not assume a seafood restaurant has nothing for you. Several traditional brasseries facing the harbor now offer at least one composed vegetarian main course, often featuring local vegetables, grains, or a warm goat cheese salad. The view is part of the experience, so check menus posted outside before walking away. A crisp Norman cider and a harbor-facing table can elevate even a simple dish.

Ask about hidden vegetarian menus. Some kitchens keep a separate “menu végétarien” that is not always displayed. This is more common in family-run bistros and crêperies. A friendly question can reveal galettes filled with sautéed leeks, mushrooms, and Norman cheese, or a plate of seasonal vegetables roasted with herbs and local cream.

Be flexible about dairy and eggs. Honfleur sits in the heart of Normandy, where butter, cream, and cheese are cultural cornerstones. If you are ovo-lacto vegetarian, you will eat extremely well. If you are vegan, your options are more limited but growing. Calling ahead is the single most reliable way to ensure a satisfying vegan meal rather than a stripped-down plate.

Honfleur rewards travelers who plan a little and remain curious. A vegetarian meal here can be as memorable as the town’s sunsets, especially when it features the region’s leeks, apples, mushrooms, and cheeses. Let the slower pace of Norman dining work in your favor, and treat every meal as part of the journey rather than a quick refuel.

Whether you spend your days wandering the Eugène Boudin Museum, walking the estuary paths, or simply watching the boats rise and fall with the tide, good food will anchor your visit. With the right restaurant choices and a few well-practiced phrases, you can experience the true generosity of Honfleur’s table without ever compromising your plate.
