12 Best Seafood Restaurants in A Coruña

A Coruña’s relationship with the Atlantic Ocean is not just geographical; it is deeply gastronomic. The city’s rugged coastline and cool, nutrient-rich waters provide an exceptional variety of seafood that defines the local culture. Here, eating is a ritual, and the freshest catch of the day is the undisputed star of the table.

From the bustling stalls of the Plaza de Lugo market to the traditional taverns lining the narrow streets of the Old Town, the scent of grilled shellfish fills the air. A Coruña offers a dining experience that ranges from unpretentious, family-run seafood taverns to refined, contemporary establishments. Yet, regardless of the setting, the emphasis remains squarely on the pristine quality of the raw ingredients.

Understanding the local terminology is key to navigating the menus. You will encounter percebes (goose barnacles), a dangerous-to-harvest delicacy that tastes intensely of the sea; nécoras (velvet crabs), sweet and delicate; and zamburiñas (variegated scallops), smaller and more flavorful than their larger cousins. These specialties, alongside a vast array of fish and shellfish, are prepared with a respectful simplicity.

A classic A Coruña seafood experience often begins with a plate of pulpo a la gallega (Galician-style octopus), dusted with paprika and coarse salt, before moving on to the main event. The local preference is for grilling (a la plancha) or boiling (cocido), methods that allow the natural flavors to shine. It is a cuisine of restraint, where a drizzle of good olive oil is often the only adornment needed.

The city’s dining scene is concentrated in a few key areas, each with its own character. The historic center, or Ciudad Vieja, is home to numerous classic marisquerías where you can sit at a marble table and enjoy a long, leisurely meal. The area around the marina and the Paseo Marítimo offers stunning views to accompany your food, often with a more modern touch.

While the quality is consistently high, prices can vary significantly. A meal featuring premium shellfish like percebes or a large bogavante (lobster) will be a splurge, while a menu of simpler grilled fish and smaller shellfish offers exceptional value. Asking for the day’s fresh catch and its price per kilogram before ordering is both common and wise.

For visitors, choosing where to eat can be overwhelming, given the sheer density of options. To help you navigate the city’s culinary landscape and ensure an unforgettable meal, we have curated a list of the most celebrated and beloved establishments. These are the places where locals go for a special occasion, a business lunch, or simply a perfect plate of seafood.

Very cozy and local friendly establishment. The food is absolutely great and the prices are affordable. Parking is impossible close, but there several parking locations around town and within 5-10 minutes you are there. Do make a reservation and after 2100 you might be lucky to get a table, but for a solo traveller, the bar or common table is a great option as well. They serve a lot of local food and have a good option for wines and beers.

A must! We walked in and managed to get a table for two - it was busy and all outside spaces were taken. Our waitress was lovely, and quickly bought over some samples for us to enjoy (the bread is amazing) Each dish we ordered was absolutely delicious and the Rioja was outstanding, so much so that we emailed after our trip tonfind more information - they quickly responded with the details and photos of the bottle. I would happily go back there again again.

This is such an excellent place to eat! The service was superb and the food was awesome. The waitresses are very friendly and will recommended you options for wines or food. They also have gluten free bread which is always nice. Service 10/10 Atmosphere 10/10 Food 10/10 Make sure you book a table before going as is very hard to get one.

Melt-in-your-mouth Octopus This place is so good we went back the next time we were in A Coruña. It's also easy to get to - just a couple of short blocks from the main square (the one with the Obelisk). I have never had Octopus so tender and flavorful. The generous portion comes with potatoes, crusty bread and a starter for 20 Euros. Also enjoyed a couple of glasses of Estrella beer - so refreshing. Also recommend the Scallops and the Prawns. The staff is welcoming and attentive. If you have never tried Octopus, get out of you safety zone and give it a go - I'm betting you will be glad you did.

Restaurant is beautiful and the staff is very polite. I tried octopus, of grilled prawns and grilled squid and all very good, squid especially. I think that 1.5 portion is quite enough to get full. Also wine selection is quite broad and glass costs around 3 euros.

What a lovely restaurant. Found this spot whilst in port on a cruise. The waitress was very helpful and took us through the menu with kindness as we couldn't speak Spanish. Very attentive and checked on us throughout. The fish was beautiful. Highly recommend the razor clams and prawns. We ordered too much for two but it was delicious 😋 As a side note: very clean toilets and good WiFi. All in all 5 stars. The waitress made it perfect.

Amazing dinner at GastroMAAR. The best meal we have had in Northern Spain thus far with incredible seafood. The razor clams and pulpo are a must. Highly recommend for anyone in A Coruna.

Absolutely divine, amazing experience, delicious food, wonderful service. One of the best meals I ever enjoyed. Thanks Chef Arturo, thanks Maria.

Tranquil and calm restaurant in the heart of A Coruña. Food was lovely, we had the Parrillada de pescado and a crab. Although it was required to call ahead of time to get the crab, the owners made the effort of providing for one and preparing it on the spot. An effort that is truly appreciated. Many thanks to both Maria and Arturo for their kindness and excellent service. Recomendadísimo.
João Guilherme Morais★★★★★
Honestly one of the best experiences I had in Spain, maybe in my entire life seafood-wise. The food is incredibly fresh and flavourful, the service is excellent (very fast and the waitress was very friendly). The tarta de qeso is the best one I've ever had, and I always try them when I see they're mentioned a lot in reviews. The ONLY downside is the price. It's a bit pricey

Amazing food, predominantly for those with a love of seafood, however, the steak was also amazing. Can also recommend the home made desserts. The staff was funny and friendly and extremely hospitable. Make sure to ring ahead if you want to order the Arroz Mariscos. Would definitely recommend.

Had the mushrooms which tasted like gasoline. Then the baked scallops which were tiny and dry, the sauce nothing special. I’ve had better and less expensive elsewhere. Then I was sick in the afternoon. The service nice. The view only for those who reserve a big table by the windows. The atmosphere totally bland.

Came here for dinner. Ordered the Valencian paella but were given the seafood. When we questioned this they said the kitchen must have got it wrong and they will only charge me for the cheaper one, we disagreed but they insisted. Left this place still feeling hungry.
T.★★★★★
We had the seafood rice (arroz mariscado) which was absolutely delicious with so much fresh seafood, perfectly cooked rice and seasoned so well. This had the freshest seafood medley of shrimp, langostine, razor clams, mussels, clams and cuttlefish. An incredible richness and depth of flavour from the stock, seafood, vegetables and caramelized langostine shells. The Galician empanada reminded me of a chicken pot pie crust but instead had a hearty potato, tuna, pepper and onion filling. And don't sleep on the dessert. The tatín de manzana (apple tart) is a must order. The soft apples barely hold together, buttery crust and served hot so the whipped cream gives it a nice cold contrast.
Martin aime schepers★★★★★
I would give it far more stars if possible, amazing service, delicious food. Will be visiting again! I had the paella and it was absolutely delicious, the rice not too hard no too soft, fresh seafood. Absolutely recommend lunching here!

We had a really great experience here! Waiters are very kind and knowledgeable so they helped us with making our choices. The fish and scallops were extremely fresh and delicious even with simple spices. Crisp bread with olive oil and a fun avocado amuse were very nice touches as well. Highly recommend!

Lobster salad was ok. There was too much dressing so the taste of the lobster was almost non existent. But the lobster rice was delicious! It’s a bit too pricy though.

Excellent food, service, wine and an amazing view. This was one of the more expensive restaurants we visited in Galicia, well worth every penny. The rice and desert were exceptional.

Jesper Rosendal★★★★★
Outstanding Galician seafood — worth returning for We visited La Sartén twice during our 2026 stay in A Coruña, which probably says more than anything else about the quality of the food. On our first visit, we had the sardines, tomato salad, grilled razor clams and zamburiñas, accompanied by a bottle of Do Ferreiro Albariño. Everything was fresh, carefully prepared and allowed to taste of the excellent ingredients rather than being hidden beneath unnecessary complexity. The second lunch was even more memorable. We returned to the zamburiñas and also ordered clams in marinera sauce and grilled cigalas, together with Pazo Baión Albariño. The cigalas were expensive, but absolutely worth it. They also reminded us that a good whole langoustine is about much more than the tail: there was a surprising amount of wonderfully sweet, delicate meat in the claws. The clams and their rich marinera sauce were excellent, while a little on the sweet side for us... Both Albariños worked very well with the seafood. Across the two visits, the cooking was consistent, confident and respectful of the produce. La Sartén is not inexpensive when ordering premium shellfish by weight, but the quality justified the price. One of our best seafood experiences in A Coruña, and a restaurant we would gladly return to.
Ivan Ceballos★★★★★
Great seafood here and also the meats. Very high quality everything and the service was amazing. Even the french fries were so home made. I recommend to order the Octopus as an starter, truly local pleasure. Prices are also good considering the quality of the place. Recommended in A Coruña!
Bhikhu Vadera★★★★★
A great place to enjoy local cuisine. They returned our missed call made outside their hours, booked us a table in the sheltered terrace so our little dog could accompany us. Delicious seafood variety enjoyed with excellent service. Unfortunately some photos were taken once started eating as it looked so good.
Johana N.★☆☆☆☆
Avoid at all costs – tourist trap with terrible food and bad service. We ordered their “famous” soupy rice with lobster and it was hands down the worst thing I’ve eaten in all of Spain. Before ordering, we specifically asked if the lobster could be served deshelled because we didn’t want to deal with the hassle. The server assured us it would be easy. It was NOT. It was frustrating, messy, and nearly impossible to get the meat out. To make things worse, there were small sharp pieces of shell mixed into the rice – nothing like biting down on shards of shell to ruin a meal. And the rice? It tasted like spoonfuls of pure salt. My tongue was burning from how salty it was. We later learned they usually crack open the lobster shell for you but didn’t this time. When we voiced our concerns, a man (I assume the manager or owner) came over—not to apologize or try to make things right—but to smugly tell us that “everything tastes fine.” This is clearly the kind of place where the customer is never right, no matter how valid the complaint. His condescending tone made the whole experience even worse. For the outrageous price they charge, this was absolutely not worth it. It’s overpriced, underwhelming, and screams “tourist trap.” We left feeling completely ripped off and insulted. Do yourself a favor and eat anywhere else.
Alexandra Nagy★★★★★
The service was a little slow but it was worth every minute to wait because the food was incredibly good. It's not a budget friendly place but if you are looking for a nice dinner out with great food and wine, in a nice setting, it's definitely the place to go.

Great seafood. Lobster rice was delicious and a generous serving. The clams à la marinera came with a wonderfully tasty sauce. Desserts were devine. Good wine selection for all budgets.

A lovely restaurant with a fantastic selection of the freshest seafoods. At first, we thought the place was emptyand thought we'd made a mistake with our Google selection. Butt when we followed the waiter through to the back, it was full of happy diners and we were put instantly at ease. The service was excellent. It has a wonderful atmosphere and is nicely decorated. It's a great place to go for a special meal. We ordered a selection of plates with help from the waiter, who may have been the owner, but in any case, was very professional, friendly and knowledgeable. The plates were brought out in good time and all exceeded our expectations. They were all 10 out of 10! Nicely presented, not pretentious in any way, fresh and without any improvements we could have asked for. We also enjoyed a toasted zero alcohol beer, Estrella Galicia, which was very nice too. Would highly recommend and are very happy to have Rio's as our first eating experience of A Coruña.

We just stayed for a quick drink. Beer and wine. They gave us some complimentary nibbles, olives, and they were the tastiest we've ever ever had. The seafood on display there looked absolutely delicious and fresh. Nice music and chilled friendly atmosphere. If the owner is reading this, could he ask the waitress with curly hair who served us and spoke English what the name of the wine was that she served my wife. Hopefully she'll remember us. It had a yellow label 🏷.

This is the place to see the beaufitul and pijo people of La Coruna. This place can be described as a seafood tapas bar. Not cheap, but then it is always full. Everything we tried was very good. Best fish and chips outside of Swanage, Uk. Batter is beer or sparkling water based, they know what they are doing. Great cultural and gastronomical experience.

Wonderful ambience and table decor. Expert jazz selection, with artists like Errol Garner. 🎹 Expressive and novel dishes. Fun experience for foodies. Gluten free bread + mains + starters. Cool hospitality and knowledgable of allergens! I'd say safe for celiac. Chefs keep updating menus every few weeks which is great to hear.

The service was impeccable. Our waitress was attentive, knowledgeable, and highly skilled. We especially appreciated how she expertly deboned the fish tableside, and her wine pairing recommendation complemented the meal perfectly. The portions were a little on the conservative side, and I would recommend familiarizing yourself with the menu beforehand. We were hoping to try the octopus and ray, but unfortunately neither was available during our visit. On a positive note, the décor was elegant and aesthetically pleasing. We arrived right when the restaurant opened, which gave the dining room a quiet, almost private atmosphere that made the experience even more enjoyable.

Ended up in this place outside the centre of coruña and to my dismay I noticed I was the only one in there. Asked for Percebes and Spider Crab which I was told they had neither so ended up picking fried squid and langoustines. Fair play to the chef he was able to find some percebes and also gave me squid and langoustines. The fish was fresh and very tasty however extremely expensive and I can see why the locals steer clear of the place. Wont fault the service, food, premises - all 3 were excellent but it is far too expensive, especially in Galicia. Would not return.

Generally speaking, mediocre for the price. Over priced for what we ordered. Iberico ham was delicious! Lobster salad was too salty, even with the sauce. Not much of lobster, not much to call it a salad. Chopped tomatoes. The balance was off. French toast was ok. As for the service, 2 out of 3 waiter/waitress were good. 1 waitress was just horrible. Rude. Was asked “What do you want?!” For a supposedly high rated seafood restaurant, we sure did not expect that.
Ana Paula Ribeiro★★★★☆
The food was delicious, but the service left a lot to be desired. We arrived around 3 PM, so they were already running low on stock—they were out of lubina and only had two vieiras left. On top of that, they forgot one of our orders. To make matters worse, by 4 PM they started cleaning up around us without any care that we were still sitting there, which felt quite rude. Fantastic food, but the hospitality needs work
Andreas Eschler★★★★★
The Arroz de Carabineros was outstanding, one of the best rice dishes I've had. The scarlet shrimps are served whole, the rice is deeply flavourful and cooked perfectly. You can tell they work with top quality, fresh ingredients. Be aware that the rice takes about 25-30 minutes, because it's made fresh to order, which is absolutely worth the wait. Great service, pleasant atmosphere. Highly recommended if you're in A Coruña!
Pablo R★★★☆☆
Service was excellent. Food well prepared apart from the tasteless truffle (I am paying big money for it and you could barely smell it). Atmosphere is excellent. Prices not so good. I found it slightly overpriced with a rice with lobster at 100EUR for two. On a separate note. The coffee cup is part of a promotional kit of glassware given by the coffee supplier. Also, the glass gallery I had next to me is pretty dusty and needs clean. Overall, an excellent experience but when you charge that much, I set my standards all the way up.

A wonderful lunch in a super casual and relaxed atmosphere. Please do not expect a linen tablecloth or fine china. This is a traditional restaurant with well prepared traditional dishes. The servers were pleasant and efficient. My wife and I noted that some other restaurants my force in more tables. We commend the proprietor for the current arrangement which allows for conversation and a pleasant atmosphere. My wife and I shared the embutido variada which had a wonderful variety of cured meats and cheese, pulpo, and pimientos de Padrón. We also had a jarra of the house white served in traditional cups and which was of reasonable quality. The pulpo was perfectly done. We arrived shortly before 2 pm on a Saturday and had to wait nearly an hour for a table. It was worth the wait but we would either go a bit earlier or arrive closer to 3 pm when we go again.

Embrace the Late Lunch. Like the rest of Spain, A Coruña operates on a later schedule. Lunch is typically served from 1:30 PM to 4:00 PM, and dinner rarely starts before 8:30 PM or 9:00 PM. Arriving at 7:00 PM will often mean finding the kitchen closed. Plan your day accordingly and use the late afternoon for a stroll along the promenade.

Look for "Marisco" over "Pescado". While both are seafood, marisco refers specifically to shellfish (crabs, prawns, barnacles, clams), while pescado means fish. If your goal is a grand seafood feast, focus your attention on the marisquerías and their displays of fresh shellfish on ice. These are the temples of Galician seafood.

Start with a Ración to Share. Galician dining is often communal. Instead of ordering individual starters, order a few raciones (full portions) or medias raciones (half portions) for the table. This is the best way to sample a variety of items like pulpo, zamburiñas, and pimientos de Padrón before moving on to a main course of fish or a larger shellfish platter.

Ask for the "Pescado del Día". The daily catch is the heart of the menu, often written on a chalkboard or recited by your server. Always ask what is freshest that day. The fish is usually sold by weight, so the server may show you the whole fish before cooking. Don’t be shy about asking for a price estimate to ensure it fits your budget.

Choose the Right Wine. While a crisp white wine from the Rías Baixas region, such as an Albariño, is the classic pairing, don’t overlook the local Ribeiro wines. For a more traditional, unpretentious experience, many locals order a taza of Ribeiro, a small white porcelain cup filled with wine. It’s a perfect, refreshing complement to shellfish.

Master the Art of Eating Percebes. If you are adventurous enough to try percebes, the technique is important. Pinch the leathery skin near the base of the barnacle’s "claw" and gently twist, pulling the tube-like skin off to reveal the pink meat inside. Be prepared for a squirt of seawater—it’s all part of the experience.

Book Ahead, Especially on Weekends. The best seafood restaurants in A Coruña are popular with both locals and tourists. For dinner on a Friday or Saturday night, or for a long, traditional Sunday lunch, it is essential to book a table in advance. This is particularly true for the smaller, more intimate taverns in the old town.

The joy of dining in A Coruña extends far beyond the food on your plate. It is about the atmosphere of a packed marisquería, the clatter of shells hitting the table, the lively conversation, and the unhurried pace of a meal shared with friends and family. Taking your time is not just allowed; it is encouraged.

As you explore the city’s culinary treasures, remember that the best meal is often the one you discover yourself. Use this guide as a starting point, but don’t be afraid to wander down a side street, peek at what locals are eating, and step inside a place that catches your eye. In A Coruña, the sea provides, and the city knows how to celebrate its bounty.
