San Lorenzo Beach is one of the most beloved stretches of coastline in Gijón, Asturias. Set along the Bay of Biscay, it curves gracefully around the city’s western edge, offering a wide expanse of golden sand and a lively promenade that hums with walkers, surfers, and families from early morning until late evening. Its urban setting makes it a rare combination of natural beauty and city convenience.
Choosing the right place to stay near this iconic beach can transform a simple seaside break into a truly memorable escape. Whether you are visiting for the surf, the local cider culture, or simply to breathe in the fresh Cantabrian air, your accommodation sets the tone for the entire trip. The area around San Lorenzo offers a broad spectrum of lodging, from grand historic hotels to sleek modern apartments.
The most appealing characteristic of this neighbourhood is its walkability. When you stay close to the beach, you are never more than a few minutes from the soft sand, the rhythmic sound of the waves, or a terrace serving freshly poured sidra. You can leave your car parked and explore the old fishermen’s quarter of Cimavilla, the bustling Plaza Mayor, or the elegant shops along Calle Corrida entirely on foot.
Travellers often worry about balancing sea views with city noise, but the area directly behind San Lorenzo manages this beautifully. Many of the best properties are set just one or two streets back from the promenade, offering peaceful nights while keeping the ocean within sight and sound. The architecture here ranges from Belle Époque facades to minimalist contemporary design, reflecting the city’s evolution as a cultural hub.
Families will appreciate the proximity to playgrounds, the aquarium, and the gentle slope of the sand near the Escalerona stairs, while couples might prefer a boutique hideaway with a view of the sunrise over the bay. Business travellers, too, will find that the beachfront location provides a refreshing counterpoint to meetings in the city centre. Understanding your travel style is the first step in selecting the ideal base.
Because this is a prime destination during the summer months and local festivals such as the Semana Grande in August, availability can be scarce. Booking early is strongly recommended, particularly if you want a room with a direct view of the sea. Even in the quieter shoulder seasons of May and September, the beach remains a focal point for local life and leisure.
Below is a curated selection of the finest places to stay within easy reach of San Lorenzo Beach. Each option has been chosen for its quality, location, and ability to deliver a genuinely comfortable experience in one of northern Spain’s most charismatic cities.

The hotel was pretty fancy one. Large, clean, modern-looking, with many services.
Food was good. They have roof terrace with great views!
My only complaint was some mess-up with registered people, but that was solved finally.

Went for a meal on Saturday night, never again! Appalling service; first meal arrived 30 mins before the 2nd. Last meals were forgotten entirely. The Spanish Fawlty Towers! Best avoided!

This is a review specifically for the events and catering service. We hosted a welcome party for all of our guests in the lead up to our destination wedding in Asturias. We had a lot of things to worry about with the wedding given the size and complexity of what we were trying to pull off… not mention that half the guests were English speakers! From the moment we chose Abba, Paloma and her team put us right at ease with what is essentially a turnkey service for large events. We had a two hour cocktail style dinner with bodega. The food was excellent, the service fantastic, and the spaces were beautiful. The event day staff was unbelievably courteous and flexible and navigated a bilingual crowd with ease. We had rain come in and we very nimbly switched from the jaw dropping terrace to their beautiful downstairs bar in a flash and without a hiccup. Thank you Paloma and the entire team for contributing to a beautiful moment in our story!

Just called in for a drink and to see the much publicised rooftop bar. Unfortunately its closed in winter . Went to the 37th gastropub for a drink on the 1st floor instead. Bizarre mish mash of decor. Not very cosy and service was quite unfriendly. Would not recommend. Did not stay here. We were going to eat but felt unwelcome in the bar so decided against it.

Great location and beautiful views from the rooms. The stay was comfortable overall, but the room could have been cleaner, especially in some less obvious areas. The hospitality also felt a bit inconsistent at times. Still, for a one-night stay, it was a good experience.

We stayed at the hotel in October (so we didn’t need AC), and everything was great. We were pleasantly surprised to be upgraded to an ocean-view room, a lovely gesture that we really appreciated.
The room was clean, spacious, and had a very comfortable bed. The bathroom was equipped with a few nice amenities as well.
Breakfast was a standard buffet, but the highlight was definitely the stunning view of the ocean and the colourful sunset sky. I would only suggest adding some fresh vegetables to the breakfast selection.
Overall, we had a wonderful stay: peaceful, comfortable, and relaxing with beautiful views.

This hotel offers nothing but a bed. No bathrobes, no slippers. There’s no air conditioning, and when I asked why it wasn’t working, they gave me a very basic fan — as if we’re not in 2025. The bathroom smells like sewage, and the bed sheets had a bad odor. No kettle, no iron, no coffee or tea in the room. Honestly, this was the worst hotel experience I’ve had in a very long time. I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone.*

I was on the 7th floor in a modernized room facing the sea. It’s interesting because the furniture was updated but the bathroom was a little older, however very very clean. The view was pretty incredible and the room, as describe before I booked, didn’t have air conditioning. I didn’t mind but I could see on hotter days this would be a problem. The hotels location was fantastic as it is across the street from the beach and on the same street as a ton of restaurants and has a nearby grocery store. The only thing I didn’t like was that they only give you shower gel but they kind of make up for it with bottles of water and a fridge in your room.

Rooms nice and clean. Similar to a premier inn. Location right on the beach. Didn’t have breakfast but located on the top floor with great views. Parking next door in a managed underground location for an additional cost but super close.

I stayed here for four nights in early April. I had a clean comfortable room with plenty of hot water and good WiFi. The morning breakfast was very filling. I usually don't pay too much attention to decor but I really liked the natural wood trim and furniture in my room. It was very attractive for a budget hotel. I'll also add that the staff was very helpful.

Very nice hotel, well located in the city center. The room is nice and clean, the bed a bit small(maybe 130cm).

Very well located hotel, in front of the beach. A bit retro style, but spacious rooms. Bear in mind that the TV is not a smart TV, hence no TV apps. The rooms are not sound proof so you can hear all the other persons passing by, chatting, etc…. That is not good at 3 am in the morning.
The room is well equipped with aircon and safety box, and very well distributed bathroom and room.
Walkable distance to several restaurants and cafeterias.

I think this hotel deserves 4/5 stars.
We got a newly renovated room, bed was 3,5/5, pillow was very good. Nice big windows. We had to sleep with the window open because a/c was only producing a very hot air, so we had ir turned off.
Breakfast was diverse (only missing veggies) and very tasty.
Location near the beach and boardwalk. Lovely.

The hotel, location and rooms are excellent for the price. I was disappointed with the breakfast, mainly continental. There was pre cooked bacon and eggs which was a let down. Bacon undercooked and fried eggs over cooked and dry.

We enjoyed our stay there. The rooms were clean l. However, the smell of the cleaning products they use is not pleasant. The shower pressure was very good. The bathroom is a good size. The room isn't very big though. The location is very good, the beach is a walking distance and there is plenty of cafés and shops around us. Opposite the hotel there is a nice park with a big cage that have different types of birds.

It's a nice place to spend the night near the beach for ~80€/night. It located on a pretty crowded place but owns a private parking for clients; that's a plus.
Also, you can choose between many pillows an pick for your room the one it fits best to you. It's the first time I have seen this, and I appreciated this little detail.

On the plus side:an excellent location with its own on site underground parking...a tastefully refurbished building and good lighting in the bedroom and bathroom...good WiFi and USB sockets...
In the minus side the breakfast room is very dark and cramped with a very poor selection and no egg station...and no eggs! If you are happy with only tortilla and very under oiled slimy bacon as the only hot options, then fine but really this is unacceptable in a 4star hotel! And the toilet paper is such poor quality!
On balance, this hotel offers a good place to stay for a day or two but the breakfast is a huge letdown for an otherwise

Nice city hotel with a very good location close to the harbour of Gijon! We've enjoyed a nice stay and also some time in the rooms, which is modern, spacious and bright. The bathroom was very big and modern too. The breakfast was quite basic so in my opinion you can easily skip that option and enjoy your coffee and jamon toast also in a cafe around the corner. The rate was more on the upper end of the scale.
Maria Vallejo★★★★☆
The hotel was very good located and the hotel rooms clean and with good AC. Breakfast buffet and not worth 12 euros. You have several cafes in the neighborhood. Do not use the hotel parking if you bring a medium or big car as far too tight!!!! There is a parking further down the street with good space parking. The morning hostess is not nice even quite rude. From midday till afternoon/night nice personnel at reception.

Stayed 3 nights from a Thursday to Sunday, this will have its importance later.
Hotel is near the centre and beach so very convenient. Staff is very nice, we got a large room on the last floor (5th). Beds are ok, rooms and bathroom were very clean and had no issues from that perspective. Breakfast was decent, nothing crazy or out of the extraordinary. If you park in the nearest parking, they will give you a voucher which will knock out 2-3 euros on the total price. Count 17-18 euros for 24hrs so you will pay 15-16 euros. Worth it for us.
Now I would not have given 5 stars obviously but could have been 4 star review. That said although Thursday was pretty ok, Friday and Saturday night was ruined by the noise of the bar/club just down below. Even on the last floor you could hear the music, mostly the bass, and the people talking or shouting outside smoking their cigarette. Know that this bar was already packed at 8pm and closes at 6.30am. Was unfortunately awake by 3-4am and it took some time to fall back asleep. On the Saturday I even put earplugs and could hear it. I have a very light sleep so if you don’t you should be fine but if like me you are you should ask for a room on the other side if that makes any difference or avoid this hotel altogether. The staff was kind enough the next day to have mentioned that we should have called and they may have warn the bar but I doubt this would have made a massive difference. Overall it is a good hotel but that particular issue had to be mentioned.

Fantastic hotel, I will definitely stay again if I pass this way. This was one of the cleanest hotels I have ever stayed in.
All the staff were very friendly and helpful.

Lots of restaurants nearby, lovely walks along the seafront.
Many thanks to all the staff.

Very central location, easy walk to bars, restaurants and the old town.
Parking an issue so I parked 800m away in a 5 Euro per day outdoor carpark instead of 15 Euro/day closer one recommended by the hotel.our room faced the back with no view except apartments behind.ask for front facing

A beautiful small hotel very close to the central part of Gijòn, shopping, and the harbour. Wouldn't mind visiting again.
Pros
+ The rooms and bathrooms are great
+ Great location
+ 24 hour reception
Cons
- Ok selection of breakfast, but a bit boring since all bread is factory-packed
- Only one elevator and a bit narrow corridors.
M S★★★★☆
It's fantastically located close to old city, port and beaches (San Lorenzo is a bit further). There is almost a lack of entrance/reception with one person working there. Although the reception isn't the best presentation of the hotel, the rooms are clean and modern (kind of small).
The worst is the painfully slow lift, a challenge to patience so if you can chose, get a room in lower floors.
Hotels in this area don't come cheap but there are plenty to chose from. It might be worth it to look other options.

Nice and clean room.
Great location, but noisy street at night.
Yuyumaya Hayward Jhonson★★★★★
It's a small hotel in the most touristy area of Gijón, right on the beach and very well connected. We thought it was very well run. Reception is open until 5 pm, and if you can't arrive by then, they contact you by phone and explain everything you need to do to pay the bill and send your ID.
They give you a code to open the main entrance, which you then enter into a small box where the room key is (I loved this cute and vintage touch). The hotel itself is very nice. The room is simple, spotless, and pristine. The bathroom was super clean, and we think it's perfectly adequate for two or three nights. The shower water is fantastic, and we loved the ceiling fan; we were even a little cold! The mattresses were incredibly comfortable. We really liked it, although I think that for the price they pay they should improve a few things, like providing more towels on the bathroom floor. In other hotels, they even give you a "bath mat" towel... They could add more amenities, like small glasses in the bathroom and larger bottles of shower gel and shampoo like in other places, thicker toilet paper rolls like double rolls that last much longer, and maybe they could add a minibar to some of the more "premium" rooms. But anyway, we left delighted... we'll definitely stay there again for our next night out or event.
Lorenzo Riva★★★★★
For our one-night stay, it was perfect. The room (very small) and bathroom were very clean. The bed was very comfortable (memory foam mattress), and the ceiling fan was very useful. The shower was very spacious. The staff were very friendly and helpful, even with check-in.
Macarena De Los Reyes★★★★★
After seeing so many negative reviews, we just couldn't understand it. The rooms were perfectly adequate for their intended use, impeccably clean, and the location was unbeatable. A PERFECT EXPERIENCE. The service was exceptional; we were caught in a heat wave and our room didn't have a fan at the time. At 10:30 PM, they offered to change our room—100% helpful.
C. M.M★☆☆☆☆
The location is the only good thing about this hotel.
I absolutely do not recommend it. Very noisy, questionable cleanliness, and on our last day we found bedbugs in the room—a completely unacceptable and unpleasant experience. If you don't want to return from your vacation with a nasty "souvenir," you're better off looking for other accommodations.

Great room, the staff at the desk were so helpful and pleasant. Only complaint was the bed was a little uncomfortable. Also would note that the parking they have involves taking a car elevator down from a pedestrian street, for advanced drivers only.

+ The location was really perfect.
+ Someone had been smoking in the first room we were given, so the receptionist gave us another room with no further questions. We are grateful for that!
+ We were extremely lucky to have the courtyard view. The streets around the hotel are a really noisy, vibrant area at night.
+ The beds and pillows were very comfortable. Extra blankets.
+ Clean rooms.
- The rooms don't have a fridge.
- Only one tiny trash bin in the bathroom.
- We arrived at 7 am after a really long night by bus from Cádiz and it seemed the receptionist wanted to get rid of us. We didn't feel welcome.
- No other place for the luggage except the wardrobe. Not very comfortable.

The hotel is very clean. The customer service is exceptional. Very close to the Marina and the Beach, and is surrounded by restaurants and coffee shops. My only criticism is the room had two beds pushed together on a tile floor, so they didn't stay together and they were uncomfortable

We have stayed Alda Miramar Rooms in Gijon as a couple for 4 nights. We had an issue about the heating at our room and called the office at late night and the lady on the phone was extremely helpful and kind enough to arrange another room for us the same night and we had such a comfortable and relax stay till the end with no problem.
I would also like to point that the staff at the reception was also very kind, helpful and attentive. You are lucky to have such employees at your corporate and please take this as genuine feedback which I also did the same on booking.com.
Thank you and have a great day!

A disaster - a dodgy place to stay at! The hotel staff is highly incompetent, rude and managed to ruin our entire morning the day before we were supposed to arrive.
We made a booking with a flexible rate about a month before our stay in Gijón. A day before arrival, I received a dubious WhatsApp message from a random number with a payment link saying that if we didn't pay until 7pm that day, our booking would be cancelled. Since the WhatsApp message seemed a bit fishy, I called to clear out the situation. The person who answered, seemed even more shady, she said she couldn't charge my card via booking.com because it was illegal. She explained that I had to pay immediately and via the link or she'd cancel the booking. When I asked her to cancel then and that we'll look for another hotel if they weren't willing to comply with the booking.com conditions, all of a sudden she said we couldn't cancel, as the cancelation period had passed. I had provided my payment details at booking.com as a guarantee of course. She basically blaimed me for not having paid yet and acted as if I was some kind of a criminal who randomly books hotel rooms around the country and then denies payment. When they made their threat reality at 18:57h that night, they must have felt wonderful! They won the battle! We didn't use the payment link of course and that was reason enough to kick us out. Good job Alda Miramar Rooms for ruining about 4 hours of our one-day trip to Bilbao before even staying in Gijón. You had 90€ of income ensured, had you only known how to simply receive two international travelers who were looking forward to staying with you and pay. I applaud you for messing up our experience in beautiful Gijón, before even arriving!
All of this could have been avoided. None of the whole payment link obligation is mentioned in booking.com, they could have contacted us way in advance and I think you cannot expect anyone to check their e-mails one day before arrival to theaten them to cancel their reservation and have them spend their entire morning to look for another place to stay.... But hey! You won! Kudos to you!

Not a 4-star hotel. Location is nice, building is new. Rooms are super small (and we even took a superior room with terrace), the choice and the service at breakfast were far below 4-star standard. We also booked the hotel because it has a top floor swimming pool and deck, which was closed, although the weather was great (manager said it only opens in the summer, but this is not mentioned on their website, very misleading!)

The only good thing is the location. Quality of service is subpar, personnel attention is borderline. It feels like a standard normal 3*, just with more rooms.
The breakfast options are just the saddest, not worth of having 4*. For what one pays you would expect more.
It is also the very first time where one tells the service in advance you come for a special occasion (wedding night) and they do not have a single detail (not asking for much, but a small detail, a card, a chocolate, anything, whatever).

Very nice and clean room. Very good shower. Breakfast selection was very good, coffee was okay. Service was very business like, a little stand offish compared to other hotels.

Gorgeous hotel, beautiful big rooms. Cleaned daily. Fresh and modern. Pool area was nice, although no towels. Breakfast was ok, pricey for what it was. Mostly continental. Roof top and downstairs restaurant limited opening times. Quiet and very close and convenient to the beach but some distance from the old town, bars, coffee shops and restaurants.

Ok. Price expensive for what you get. What was most surprising was no coffee machine in the room (or even a kettle)... Great showers. Cute terrace to have a drink but they close pretty early by Spain standards (10:30pm)

This is an excellent place to stay in the off-season because you're away from the fray yet have access to everything. The breakfasts are excellent here and the people & service was above my expectations. They are quiet and discreet. BTW, the underlying engineering & architecture of this building is remarkable. It is hidden, but if you get someone to show you the back hallways & corridors you'll see old-world construction.

Been staying in many hotels and in terms of boutique hotel this is great! Great price to quality, the service is impeccable and the vibe of the hotel is quiet, and comfortable.
Situated right in the center of the city, close to the beach in a beautiful art deco house, which makes the hotel experience special. Can recommend

Fantastic stay. My room was huge, beautifully designed and extremely comfortable, and the central location was perfect. Pedro was exceptionally helpful and made me feel genuinely welcome throughout my stay.

El Moderne Gijón is a very good all-rounder — a typical city hotel, but on the better side. The location is excellent and makes exploring the city easy. The staff were great throughout, especially the lady in the bar in the evening who really stood out for her friendliness. Rooms are comfortable and nicely done. The only point to improve would be the breakfast: there’s little variation, and with so many great cafés around the hotel, it’s almost better to step outside for a morning bite. A solid choice for a city stay in Gijón.
Tips for Choosing the Best Hotel Near San Lorenzo Beach
Selecting the right hotel is about more than just finding a bed; it is about matching the property to the rhythm of your holiday. The following practical tips will help you avoid common mistakes and secure a stay that feels tailor-made for your visit to Gijón.
Book early for summer festivals. August is the busiest month in Gijón, with the Semana Grande festival filling hotels quickly. If you plan to visit during this period, reserve your room at least three to four months in advance to secure both availability and a fair rate.
Decide between a sea view and a city view. Rooms with direct views of San Lorenzo Beach command a premium, but they are worth it if you enjoy watching the tide from your window. If you are on a budget, choose a room facing the quiet side streets; you will still be only a two-minute walk from the sand.
Check for parking before you book. Many hotels near the beach are located in pedestrian-friendly zones with limited vehicle access. If you are driving to Gijón, confirm whether your hotel offers private parking or a discounted rate at a nearby public car park, as street parking is restricted in the centre.
Look for soundproofed windows on the promenade. The Paseo de San Lorenzo is lively well into the night, especially on weekends. If you are a light sleeper, prioritise properties that advertise double glazing or acoustic insulation, or request a room on a higher floor away from the street-level terraces.
Consider breakfast and dining options. While there are countless cafés and sidrerías within walking distance, having breakfast included at your hotel can save time and money. Check whether the property serves local Asturian products, such as fresh cheese, cured meats, and traditional pastries.
Use the beach as your fitness centre. Many hotels near San Lorenzo offer small gyms, but the real exercise happens outside. The promenade stretches for over a kilometre and is perfect for morning runs, while the surf schools near the western end of the beach provide boards and wetsuits for all levels.
Staying near San Lorenzo Beach gives you the rare opportunity to live like a local while enjoying the comforts of a well-chosen hotel. The sound of the waves, the smell of salt and freshly fried churros, and the sight of the sun rising over the Cantabrian Sea are all part of the experience.
Whether you choose a grand seafront hotel or a discreet boutique room tucked behind the promenade, your time in Gijón will be defined by the ease with which you can move between the city and the shore. Take your time comparing options, prioritise what matters most to you, and you will find the perfect base for exploring this vibrant Asturian coastal city.
