Annecy is a place that feels almost too picturesque to be real. With its turquoise lake, winding medieval streets, and the dramatic peaks of the French Alps rising in the distance, it is a destination that captivates from the very first glance. Yet, beyond the postcard-perfect views at street level, there is an entirely different way to experience this Alpine jewel.
Elevating your perspective—quite literally—changes how you see the town. From a rooftop, the terracotta tiles stretch out beneath you, the canals glint in the sunlight, and the lake opens up like a vast, shimmering canvas. It is a quieter, more romantic way to soak in the atmosphere away from the bustling crowds along the Thiou.
The rooftop café scene in Annecy has grown into a defining part of the local lifestyle. Whether you are seeking a perfectly pulled espresso, a chilled glass of local Savoie wine, or a decadent pastry, the city offers elevated spaces that cater to every mood. These spots combine the French appreciation for slow living with some of the most spectacular scenery in Europe.
For travelers, finding these hidden terraces can be the highlight of a trip. They offer a chance to pause, breathe in the crisp mountain air, and watch the light change over the lake. For locals, they are beloved gathering places where afternoons melt into golden evenings.
Not every rooftop is created equal, however. Some offer front-row views of the Palais de l’Isle, while others focus on the sweeping expanse of Lake Annecy or the surrounding mountains. The best ones pair their views with excellent service, quality ingredients, and an ambiance that feels authentically Savoyard.
We have explored the heights of this beautiful city to bring you a curated guide to its finest elevated terraces. From hidden gems tucked behind hotel facades to lively bars with panoramic vistas, here are the best rooftop cafes in Annecy for your next visit.

Had a very good 2 course dinner here mid-week. The menu has quite a few options with a mixture of classic French and other nationalities. All the food was very fresh and seasoned well. Desserts are classic and excellent. Quiet mid-week but I think it livens up on the weekend.

Very modern place, with a fancy touch. The food was good but not exquisite, best one in our opinion was the burger. However, price-quality wise it wasn’t perfect, therefore the 3/5.

The food was very good and the staff was friendly to foreigners. The coulant chocolat dessert is a must-have.

Had my birthday meal at Les Terrasses and couldn’t have picked a better spot. The view over the lake is beautiful, especially in the evening, and made it feel like a really nice setting for a special occasion.
The food was excellent, and the service was friendly and attentive throughout.
Definitely a great place for a meal in Annecy, especially if you’re looking for somewhere a little special.

Les,Terrasses completely restored our faith in dining in Annecy.
First of all — the view over the lake is absolutely breathtaking. Sitting there in the evening already feels special before the food even arrives.
The service was warm, elegant and genuinely attentive throughout the entire evening. But the real highlight was the cuisine itself. We know France quite well and have experienced many excellent restaurants, so it becomes harder and harder to truly surprise us. Yet this place managed to do exactly that.
The dishes were not just “good French food” — they had their own personality, their own signature style. Every flavor felt rich, refined and deeply thought through. Every single bite was pure enjoyment. Combined with an excellent wine selection, the whole evening created this rare feeling of happiness when everything simply fits together perfectly: the place, the atmosphere, the taste, the moment.
Thanks to Les Terrasses, our visit to Annecy suddenly felt magical again.
A truly memorable experience.

Amazing food, service and views. One not to miss
Beware that the sign to the small road to the restaurant is small (on the left when going up the hill). Google maps works to get there

Outstanding service, this restaurant is so gorgeously located - I felt like we got one of the best spots in the house. Great wine and delicious food… we ordered the burrata, Atlantic char, and beef. We also ordered a dessert and they brought out a candle for our anniversary. Loved this spot!! Definitely check it out if your in Annecy 🥰

Beautiful place to eat with views from every table. You definitely need to book though.

La-Haut is another restaurant that proves while my favourite Michelin designation is Bib Gourmand.
What a gem this was, hidden far from the busy streets with a balcony that has some stunning views to the mountains.
Genuinely warm, friendly and efficient service from the team built upon the delicious food that we ate. Each dish was generous and very flavoursome.
Definitely worth a visit when in Annecy. We plan to return!

We were recommended this place by ChatGPT (haha) which said that this restaurant has scenic views away from the busiest streets. True as it was indeed away from the busy streets. The restaurant is on level 4 of a building in a rather quiet street so we actually doubted ourselves whether we were headed the right place…
Upon arrival, the restaurant was empty (as we arrived 15 mins before they opened) and we continued to wonder if the restaurant was any good.
But our doubts very quickly went away when once service began, the lady came and started to patiently explain the menu to us especially regarding the non dairy food choices available (because we indicated in our booking that one of us does not take dairy) and what they could do to change the sauces of some of the dishes. I don’t take dairy and understand that it is not easy to accommodate for French cuisine and some restaurants will just outrightly tell you they can’t accommodate at all. So we were very impressed at the level of service and the fact that they were prepared to accommodate and were very kind and patient about it.
The food was very good. Every single course was well executed and the modified dishes without sauces were also very good. This to me really shows the culinary excellence of the chef - the dishes can be modified without compromising the quality of the taste.
Food was very value for money too.
Overall a very good experience and well worth the trip to the restaurant.

Fantastic restaurant by a dedicated chef. Recently received a Michelin distinction. Highly recommended. Pricing was very fair. Atmosphere was very nice once you get in. The location is a little off. Parking under the commercial building is weird. But it of worth the effort.

You will never find this place without the reviews or word of mouth! In the dark, it is esp. difficult, but, because we had read reviews, we found it and if you look at the photos, you'll see why you could easily miss this restaurant. We came here because of the reviews and photos, and it was a 15 mins walk to where we were staying. Before we start on the food, the WC IS inside the restaurant, it's well hidden behind the black door on the same side as the living-wall plants! Myself and many other patrons had fun finding it!! A suggestion to management, make the sign more obvious, maybe on the centre of the door. Anyway, they were very clean! Ha ha! 3 course evening meal the Le Haut menu for 41 Euros, including an amuse bouche and 3 types of unlimited bread and table water, was great! Excellent English spoken by all 3 servers. Each dish was explained in great detail. Portion sizes good. You don't leave hungry! Friendly, unhurried service in a cosily lit space. The plastic chairs could do with some cushions, because they looked chic but they weren't super comfortable. There are, however, some long cushioned seats along the wall, where the toilet door is! The flavours we find, are always best in the starters. For some reason, the mains never quite match the uniqueness of the starters in these types of fine dining restaurants. There is only a choice of 2 dishes, if you go for the Le Haut Menu, so I would suggest share each dish, that way you get to try 6 different dishes in total. 5 stars well deserved. We went to Le Petit Thiou the other day which also gets 4.9 on Google reviews, it was great too, so trust us! We also like the fact that there is no dodgy service charge. The website menu is up to date. Bien fait Là Haut!

We were newcomers to Annecy and had planned to stay there three days to explore the city and the area in general as we certainly did. But the real reason for the visit to Annecy was celebrating my birthday with my son and friends. For that particular occasion we had searched social media and the internet in advance to give a clue what to check/pass by in person to see how it really looked before deciding anything..hoping there still were availabilities.
Anyway, we spent half a day strolling around in the city just for that but somehow we didn't feel good enough about.. what we had seen and even got recommendations beforehand should be ideal for such an occasion.
Already in middle in the afternoon of my birthday and a bit tired after a long day strolling around to find the right place to celebrate at dinner and not feeling content about what we had seen with our own eyes (not only on photos from various social media options), we happened to be standing in a street in front of a hotel (Hôtel Les Pélican) near the lake and noticed a nice terrace/balcony above one the second floor. Let's check what's there and we went inside by the hotel's main entrance and upstairs to find access onto the terrace: Wow, that's the right place, elegant environment with stunning views over the lake...for us to celebrate tonight!
We were lucky and reserved..to be back there after three hours for dinner.
It was an amazing evening we enjoyed there June 19, 2026. Everybody was very happy about the food each had chosen from the menu, the wine and desserts.
The service was excellent and the staff friendly and professional.
I can with genuine and pure pleasure recommend this restaurant Ô Bon Bec!

We stayed 3 days at the Le pelican Hotel in Annecy and had a fantastic experience overall. On our first night, we dined at the Bon O bec Restaurant Lounge, and it was truly memorable. The view is absolutely stunning you can enjoy the beautiful scenery while having dinner, which creates such a relaxing and chic atmosphere. The food was delicious simple yet refined – and the staff were very friendly and welcoming.
After dinner, we headed to the Rooftop at ô cèdre, which was another highlight of the evening. The ambiance was great and the staff there were exceptional the tall guy in the rooftop bar is super friendly so attentive and genuinely warm. It was a really good experience from start to finish.

The worst meal we had on our 17 night trip to France .My Cerviche was just odd , no lime or citrus it was just bland. The Sea Bream I left , no one asked throughout the meal if we were enjoying it , then took the plate away saying nothing when I complained I hadnt liked it .We had to go to the bar to pay as our table seemed a no go zone after my observations on the food
Its expensive and I would have expected more.
LArtisan next door the night before was amazing - cheaper, with superb food , friendly service a real ten out of ten experience
Save your money and go next door !!

Beautiful view of Lake Annecy — that's the draw here, and likely why the ratings look good. But be aware, this feels a bit like a tourist trap: the food and service don't match the price or the setting.
We ordered the some small fishes. Pech filet and charcuterie board to start. For mains, we ordered cod, arctic char, pork chop, and the dish of the day (chicken with couscous). The cod had a distinct ammonia smell, a sign the fish wasn't fresh. We flagged this with the staff, but nothing was done about it — no apology, no adjustment, nothing. The rest of the dishes were unremarkable, nothing that justified the prices.
Service was the bigger issue. No one checked on our table during the meal or asked if we'd like another drink. The dish of the day was supposed to include dessert, but it was never brought out — we were simply handed the check.
If you're visiting Annecy, enjoy the lake, but I'd look elsewhere for the meal.
Krista Petkov★★★★☆
The food was incredible. The octopus and artichoke risotto was memorable for sure. The service was awful, though. And the wine glasses were not perfectly clean (residue around the rim) and pretty tacky to have the measuring line along the wine glass for such a nice place. Sunset was beautiful from this spot. Would come back for the food and sunset, not anything else.
Marcus Ardelean★★★★☆
Very good food (except the cannelloni which had that low quality frozen fish bad taste), good location and view, however the service is not up to par.
Had a reservation but still had to wait for a table to be free before being seated. There are only a few tables that can accommodate 4 people (I find it weird, but I guess they target couples more). We got a table that was a round table wheel with a tree in the middle and barely any space for the legs, with also 2 tables right behind us so an awkward position.
After being seated and waiting several minutes without even receiving a menu, I had to resort to calling the waiter with my hand which I find rude myself but it was an unacceptable situation.
Jeffrey Tanggau★★★★☆
Came here with my family and I must say the food was rather good. The only let down was that their English menu was not updated, we initially came to this spot to have oysters but they were out.
Nonetheless, the view of the sunset at the lake, with the other good we ordered were quite good. The service staff were friendly and we all had a nice time.
Parking can be an issue.
Ge fr★☆☆☆☆
Very disappointing experience.
When we arrived at 11:50 for our table booked at 12:00, the restaurant staff refused to open the parking gate. Their explanation was that they were having lunch, despite there being at least eight waiters on duty. It wasn't a very welcoming start.
Unfortunately, the food was equally disappointing. We had a wonderful experience here last year, but this time the quality had dropped significantly. It seems the change of chef has completely altered the dining experience, and not for the better. The dishes were ordinary and lacked the quality we had previously enjoyed.
It's a real shame because the location itself is lovely. However, between the poor customer service and the underwhelming food, we won't be returning anytime soon. I hope the restaurant can regain the standard it once had.

Great beer bar. There was a quality beer taps list. The tapas were great. Much better than a lot of craft beer places. We wished this was our local.

Nice spot for a drink and meal. Tapas style menu is short but varied and everything we tried was good. Note that portions are fairly generous so four tapas was plenty for two of us and we could have done with three. The baked goat cheese with honey, thyme and apples was particularly tasty, and the pea cakes (similar to falafel) with yogurt were very nice. The setting is right next to the river but you can’t really see it given the landscaping. As with most places in Annecy, a fair amount of smoking on the terrace so try to sit strategically if you don’t want to taste smoke with your food.

Lovely varied selection of generous tapas portions, served with chilled drinks by the waterside. The place seemed to be full of locals & families which was nice. Service was slow but attentive. Would definitely be back.

We had breakfast here today and it was wonderful! Our waiter, David, was awesome! The eggs and bacon and pancakes are great as are the chocolate croissants and other pastries. The orange juice is fresh squeezed and the coffee was fantastic! We also sat outside and it was a beautiful place place to sit!

The small cafe faces a beautiful view of the lake and houses, with a cosy atmosphere. The food here is pretty good, nothing particularly special but still tasty. We ordered a salad, omelette, and smoked salmon sandwich with cheese. The quality of the croissant and toasted bread slices were very good, especially paired with butter and the many cheeses they offer. Overall, a good place to stop by for a light meal and a scenic view.

We visited Café des Ducs in Annecy and had a disappointing experience. While we were still sitting and enjoying our time, the staff came to our table and brought us the bill, which made us feel rushed and unwelcome. In addition, all of the drinks that were supposed to be served cold arrived hot. Overall, the service was not attentive and did not meet our expectations. Unfortunately, based on our experience, we cannot recommend this café.

Essential Tips for Enjoying Annecy’s Rooftop Cafes
A little local knowledge goes a long way when planning your elevated café experience. The rhythm of life in Annecy is tied to the seasons, the weather, and the tourist flow. Understanding these nuances will help you secure the best table, avoid disappointment, and make the most of the Alpine air.
Book ahead during peak season. From June to September, Annecy is bustling with international and domestic tourists. The most coveted rooftop terraces fill up quickly, especially during sunset hours. If a café accepts reservations, make one a few days in advance. For walk-in spots, aim to arrive just as they open in the late morning or early afternoon to secure a prime spot before the evening rush.
Time your visit for the “golden hour.” The light in Annecy is particularly magical about an hour before sunset. The sun dips behind the Semnoz mountain, casting a warm glow over the lake and the old town’s rooftops. This is the most photogenic time to be on a terrace. Keep in mind that evenings can cool down quickly, even in summer, so bring a light jacket or scarf.
Check the weather and mountain visibility. The Alps can create their own microclimate. A clear morning can turn into an overcast afternoon. Before committing to a rooftop, glance at a live webcam or a reliable local forecast. If the mountains are obscured by clouds, the experience is still pleasant, but the “wow” factor is diminished. The clearest views often occur after a rain shower has cleared the air.
Embrace the local drink culture. While an espresso or cappuccino is always appropriate, rooftop terraces in Annecy are also perfect for sampling regional beverages. Try a glass of Apremont or Chignin, crisp white wines from the nearby Combe de Savoie. If you prefer something non-alcoholic, order a local artisanal lemonade or a “diabolo menthe,” a classic French mint soda that feels refreshing at altitude.
Combine your visit with nearby attractions. Many of the best rooftops are clustered in or near the Vieille Ville and the lakefront. Plan your café stop as a restful interlude between exploring the Château d’Annecy, strolling through the Jardins de l’Europe, or returning from a boat cruise. This way, the terrace becomes a natural part of your day’s rhythm rather than an isolated detour.
Be patient and courteous. Rooftop terraces often have limited square footage and a high demand for tables. Service may be slower during peak hours because staff must navigate stairs or elevators. A relaxed, polite attitude is the norm here. If you are asked to wait, do so with a smile—the reward of that first sip with a panoramic view is well worth it.
The beauty of Annecy is that it rewards those who take their time. Rooftop cafes are not just about consuming a beverage; they are about soaking in the geography, the architecture, and the pace of life that makes this corner of France so special. Whether you are visiting for a weekend or a month, carving out an hour to sit above the streets will deepen your connection to the city.
As you plan your itinerary, remember that the best terrace is not always the most famous one. It is the one where you feel most at ease, where the view speaks to you, and where the moment feels genuinely yours. So look up, find a spot that catches your eye, and let Annecy reveal itself from a whole new angle.
