Nestled against the turquoise waters of its namesake lake and framed by the dramatic peaks of the French Alps, Annecy offers a drinking scene as picturesque as its postcard-perfect canals. Whether you are winding down after a day of watersports or warming up after a winter hike, the "Venice of the Alps" has a venue for every mood. The city’s bar culture seamlessly blends Savoyard warmth with modern mixology, ensuring that your evenings are just as memorable as your days exploring the Vieille Ville.
From hidden speakeasies tucked behind unassuming doorways to lively wine bars spilling out onto cobblestone streets, the diversity of the local nightlife is impressive. You can sip on a locally brewed craft beer, explore the nuanced world of French natural wines, or enjoy a meticulously crafted cocktail with a view of the Thiou River. The atmosphere here is generally relaxed and welcoming, prioritizing good conversation and quality drinks over high-energy clubbing.
Navigating the narrow lanes and arcaded streets in search of the perfect pour is one of the greatest joys of visiting this alpine town. However, with so many options available, it can be difficult to separate the tourist traps from the genuine local haunts. That is why we have curated a list focusing on quality, atmosphere, and authentic hospitality to help you drink like a local.
This guide is designed to cater to a variety of tastes and budgets, ensuring that whether you are a wine connoisseur, a beer enthusiast, or a cocktail aficionado, you will find your ideal spot. We have considered everything from the ambiance and the music to the knowledge of the staff and the uniqueness of the menus. You won’t find generic chains here; only places that contribute to the unique character of Annecy.
Because the city is highly walkable, exploring these bars is best done on foot, allowing you to soak in the illuminated canals and medieval architecture between stops. Be sure to check local opening hours, as many of the more intimate venues have limited seating and can fill up quickly, especially on weekends and during the summer festival season.
Whether you are looking for a romantic date spot, a lively place to watch a football match, or a quiet corner to taste rare regional wines, Annecy has you covered. Prepare to discover the best places to unwind, socialize, and taste the spirit of the French Alps with our hand-picked selection of the top establishments in the city.

Great friendly pub with an excellent choice of beers and other drinks. Food choice is very good and the quality is excellent. Prices are on a par if not better than most. Service is great very friendly and they were happy to bring an ice bucket for a large bottle of delicious Belgian beer served in the proper Belgian glasses.

Good tunes.. loads of nooks and crannies in thus pub. Lots of outside seating just at the bridge. 3 beers €26... Average prices for area. Golf was on the TV. Goid mix of people inside and outside.

Good atmosphere, busy, but tables were available. Nice beer, plenty of choice. We went during happy hour, there were several drinks that were relatively inexpensive. Opted for an IPA that turned out to be €10 for 500ml glass. One of the dearer pints of the week. The trade off was that it was in the middle of the Old Town, full of tourists. Nice pint though, did I say that.

Excellent service, bar staff are absolutely fantastic and a credit to the establishment. Raphael was excellent and very helpful in providing advice on drinks and what to do in Annecy, a real credit to the pub!

I loved the design of this place, set in a rustic old ship that gives it a unique and charming atmosphere. We had a burger, salad, stew, and desserts, all of which were delicious.
The staff were kind and friendly, though it took a little while for the food to arrive. One highlight you must try is the flaming crème brûlée — the waiter prepares and torches it right at your table, which makes the experience fun and memorable.

The staff specifically Brian!!! Was absolutely fantastic and gave us a truly unforgettable experience. The atmosphere is unbelievable every single night and Brian does the most to make sure everyone there is happy and always gives 100% in everything. He was more than happy to play our recommended songs. I dont even drink beer but the concept of the place is really cool and i cant wait to be back. Thank you Brian!! See you next year

Pretty nice place with friendly staff who were able to help us in English.
You serve your own beer based on the amount you want. We tried each of them and then had the ones we liked most. We will definitely come here again.

Was recommended to me by a local friend.
Great blues music, went in on a bank holiday Monday night for my birthday, the guys were so friendly and welcoming.
Loved the idea of the 'pull your own pint' loads of options. Good location.
Would recommend and return!

Fantastic beer experience, where you are the bar man! You load a card with credit then you choose your beer of choice, and pour. You only get charged for what you pour - so great if you’re not sure about the beer - you can pour a little taster first! Screens tell you how much each pour costs and how much credit you have left. Great fun !! Beers cost between 4-8 euros for 25cl.

Very cool place!!! Vibes were good, excellent choice of beers and the staff were extremely friendly and helpful! Definitely a must see for beer lovers! (They do wine too just in case you don't like beer, like my gf!)

Amazing cocktails. I am a Gin lover and I was so happy to see many options of Gins. I love the concept, the atmosphere, the music (I went there on a Saturday night and there was a DJ). I recommend to book! Without a reservation you'll hardly find a table. Ladies restrooms are so original ! Don't miss to go with your bestie.

Warm welcome and pleasant staff. Nice bar to visit on a Wednesday, could have stayed later too. You had your own red "light" to summon a waiter/waitress which worked really well. Reasonable crowd and music. Mainly couples with one bigger group. Food was fine and simple.

Extremely unsafe and unprofessional. Less than 10 minutes after entry (that we payed for) after I manage to take a singular sip of my drink, my group was forcibly thrown out by “the boss” (who refused to give his name, his position at the establishment or any explanation). I was left behind alone, in shock as I took time to understand what was happening and then had to follow my partner and his friends out. As a woman with social anxiety, I felt completely unsafe and deeply distressed. Girl working at the dress room also refused to return my belongings for no valid reason, despite knowing exactly what was mine since we entered 10 minutes earlier. The treatment was clearly discriminatory and racially biased. I would not recommend supporting an establishment like this. I personally visited this club multiple times prior and I deeply regret spending my money and supporting establishment that doesn’t have any integrity.

Valentina Marija★☆☆☆☆
I’ve visited this club multiple times with no issues, yet whenever I’m with someone of a different skin color, a foreigner, or a visitor, there’s always a problem. The staff make up excuses to justify their behavior, but the reasons are rarely valid—they only serve to protect their egos. The bouncers act racist, nationalist, and entitled, treating some guests with blatant bias. The club repeatedly defends these behaviors instead of hiring staff who actually value customer service. What’s crazy is that there are hundreds of negative reviews, most pointing out the same bouncer issues, yet the club constantly responds by blaming customers instead of addressing their staff’s behavior. It’s clear there’s a pattern, yet the club continues to defend these actions with excuses every single time. In this day and age in a touristic and multicultural city like Annecy, it’s truly shameful to have such establishments destroying the image. It’s extremely shameful, disappointing, and a waste of time and money. I deeply regret supporting this establishment prior.
Ollie Tregenza★☆☆☆☆
I wish I could leave less than a one star review. We were polite and responsive but we were denied as we couldn’t speak French.
Ben★☆☆☆☆
They hate English people, we were polite and kind and they shut us down for no reason.
Riccardo Contini (Ricky)★☆☆☆☆
It was empty outside with the door closed. Then a bouncer came out telling me from the camera I looked drunk and never let me in. End of the story, and of course I wasn't drunk. He probably did me a favour not letting me in in that place, if all the staff was like him.
montanellosan★☆☆☆☆
We got rejected saying that we were drunk because they saw it from the camera. I would like to higlight that I don't even drink alcohol and we were coming with an absolutely appropriate dresscode. I've never experienced such a treatment like this. First and last time that I even try to visit you guys. Disgusted.

Uh, what a mistake choosing this place for dinner. The food was just above average (to put it mildly), and the service was quite slow. I wouldn’t recommend it.

La Coloc in Annecy is an absolute must-visit pub! From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was warm and lively, making it the perfect place to unwind with friends. The drinks were absolutely wonderful—my spritz was mixed to perfection, refreshing and just the right balance of flavors. The drink menu offers a fantastic variety, with something for everyone, whether you’re into cocktails, beer, or wine.
What really sets La Coloc apart is the unique game room upstairs. It’s a fantastic addition that adds to the fun of the night. We spent hours playing games, laughing, and enjoying our drinks in good company. It’s a great space to socialize, with a laid-back vibe that makes you feel right at home. Whether you’re up for a friendly competition or just want to hang out, the game room is an awesome feature.
The service was also top-notch, with friendly and attentive staff who made sure we had everything we needed. The pub’s cozy, welcoming environment combined with excellent drinks and the added bonus of the game room makes La Coloc a standout spot in Annecy. I’ll definitely be back soon and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a fun and relaxing night out!

Nice bar I watched the football in here was easy to get a drink and order food. It is quieter than the other bars in the main old town so a good option.

They call it happy hour, but €7.40 for a beer feels more like a joke. Nothing wrong with the place, but the pricing’s off. Good music. But I am not going back
Update after owner's reply:
Thanks for the response! Just to clarify - when I asked the bartender about happy hour, it wasn’t mentioned that it only applied to self-serve beers. That would’ve been helpful to know. €7.40 is quite a bit higher than the €5 happy hour prices I saw elsewhere in Annecy.
Jill Kranz★★★★★
Awesome bar! There are several taps with self serve beer. You have to load a card with money so you can purchase your drinks. It's a great way to try lots of beers and try as much as you like. You can also order wine and food from the iPads at the table. The bartender was great at explaining the process and helping us.

Cool bar that's trendy with the locals. Great idea with each table having a different beer tap as it makes it fun chatting to people at the tables. Prices are on par for Annecy

Great pirate bar with shots on fire. What more can you ask for?
Julie L.★★★☆☆
Barberousse is a classic spot when you want to have fun without any hassle. However, almost two weeks ago, I had an inappropriate experience with the bouncers. We went in, two of us, and they asked to search my bag. One of the bouncers examined my bag, asked me about each item inside, and became suspicious of my water bottle. It was the middle of a heatwave, and I was wary of what people might put in my drink. I offered to let them smell it and empty it, just keep my water bottle. At that point, I was rudely redirected to his colleague. His colleague then told me they didn't sell food. I asked them what that had to do with anything, and he told us we had to leave. I replied that the situation was very strange, and then he grabbed me by the waist and threw me out.
Clara M★☆☆☆☆
First negative experience:
The bouncer judged my friend, saying to him as soon as he arrived, "You didn't say hello," and "And secondly, you're wearing shorts!" He hadn't even had time to arrive. "You're being disrespectful."
I've been to this bar before, but I won't be going back. This isn't the way to welcome customers.
My friends wouldn't have been allowed in if I hadn't been there, all because I'm a woman. They stared at us for 10 seconds.

Absolutely no star and very disappointing. We visited on 6/8/26 having seen the reviews . There were just the two of us at 21.20 . Firstly I moved my chair. The chair leg went into the drain adjacent to my seat and I fell over . No help no apology!
We then asked for two very simple Gin and Tonics. In particular French Gin Citadel, considering we were the only two people it took ages it seemed it was more important to finish what he was doing rather than the customers .
Only then to suffer insult and disappointment when the G&Ts arrived as he used soda as he freely admitted he'd run out of tonic . When I complained he went to another establishment and topped our gins with tonic water. Gin which tasted more like Roku the Japanese Gin .
Very poor very disappointed , and he blatantly expected us to just accept it for €28.00 . He then sat down at another table with a lady giggling. NOT IMPRESSED and I'd say do not visit a rip off, and don't take your customers tourists or otherwise for fools .

This restaurant summarizes all concerns foreigners can have against french welcome. Poutine dishes has nothing to see with what you can expect. Cheese they use is no way Poutine cheese. Then, some minutes after having paid for this, I was asked to move to another table (despite there was a lot of space available, see picture) because they said they had booked this table to other people, supposing they were VIP. So I recommend not giving your money to this greedy restaurant. Sure they harrassed me until I move, proposed to give me the money back. I refused, I paid for something and only wanted to watch a match quietly. This place is just a joke.

Terrible. Service was so bad, food somehow was even worse. They should look up the meaning of service. This place is a black stain on ireland. Food was served 45 minutes late after i had to ask the bartender. I had to go pick up the drinks from the bar after they sat there for 20 minutes. This place is truly a crime against humanity. Can‘t wait to see if the terrible food gives me the s*%ts. Irish pub lol. Not even christ himself could make this place good.

We arrived on a Monday in January, precisely at opening, given the limited availability of other establishments. Needed warmth of an Irish establishment from the long day of sightseeing. The venue was clean and inviting, offering ample space for both intimate and larger gatherings. Pleasant music was playing, and the establishment quickly became quite active. Its location is excellent and easily accessible......

Casual but cosy spot, perfect for a relaxed drink and a snack with a book. Buzzy Friday night atmosphere with lots of people sitting outside. I chose a cosy booth inside. Local wine and some saucisson did the trick. Very generous portions as you get a whole saucisson, even though I was alone, bread and gherkins. Excellent value (food + 2 wines + tip = €20), great ambience and mostly very friendly staff (just one who was a little abrupt). Definitely adding this place to my list of places worth returning to.

Young staff speedily serve their tables and customers, politely and courteously. Plenty of seating outside plus some inside.
A good selection of draft beers, juices and wines.
Nicely decorated too and a really good atmosphere, no loud music, just lots of people talking and watching the world go by.

I was having my coffee at "la buvette du marche" the other day. I asked the proprietor how to get to Mont Blanc as I was having problems with late booking. The fluent in English proprietor, a young blond lady of unusual beauty being uncertain herself, left her post at the bistrot and rushed across the street for more information. Now, this is something very few people would do. I thank you, beautiful lady.
Espressos, wines, and beers very satisfactory, service exemplary.

Tips for Enjoying Annecy’s Bar Scene
To truly make the most of your evening in Annecy, a little local insight can go a long way in enhancing your experience and helping you blend in with the residents. The drinking culture here is deeply tied to the French appreciation for leisure, quality, and social connection. By understanding the local customs and timing your visit right, you can ensure a seamless and enjoyable night out in this beautiful alpine city.
1. Embrace the "Apéro" Culture
The French tradition of "l’apéro" (pre-dinner drinks) is sacred in Annecy. Head out between 5:30 PM and 7:30 PM to enjoy a drink alongside small snacks like olives, charcuterie, or cheese. This is the liveliest time for bars, as locals gather to decompress after work. You will often find that many bars offer special pricing on house wines or local beers during these early evening hours.
2. Master the Art of the "Demi"
When ordering draft beer in France, you will often be asked if you want a "demi" (half pint, usually 25cl) or a "pinte" (50cl). Unlike in some countries where a pint is the default, locals often prefer the smaller "demi" to keep their beer cold and fresh. If you are sampling multiple bars in one evening, opting for a "demi" is the perfect strategy to pace yourself and try a wider variety of local brews.
3. Look for "Vins de Savoie"
While Provence and Bordeaux get much of the international attention, the Savoie region produces exceptional, highly distinctive wines that are rarely exported. When at a wine bar, ask for a glass of local white wine, such as Jacquère or Roussette, or a red Mondeuse. These wines are crisp, mineral-driven, and pair perfectly with the local mountain cheeses, offering a true taste of the terroir.
4. Don’t Skip the Happy Hours
While the concept of "Happy Hour" is slightly more modern in France, it has been widely adopted in Annecy, particularly by cocktail bars and pubs. Many of the top craft cocktail spots offer "happy hours" between 5:00 PM and 8:00 PM, where signature drinks can be 3 to 5 euros cheaper. This is an excellent opportunity to experience high-end mixology without the premium price tag.
5. Look Beyond the Main Canals
The most famous streets, like Rue Sainte-Claire, are undeniably charming but often come with inflated prices and slower service due to the crowds. To find where the locals actually drink, venture slightly away from the tourist center. Explore the streets near the Rue Carnot, the area around the Hôtel de Ville, or the neighborhoods leading toward the lake’s edge away from the Palais de l’Isle. You will often find more authentic atmospheres and better value just a two-minute walk from the main thoroughfares.
6. Be Prepared for Late Nights on Weekends
While Annecy is a relatively relaxed town during the week, the energy shifts on Friday and Saturday nights. Many bars transform from quiet cafés into vibrant, standing-room-only music venues after 10:00 PM. If you prefer a quieter experience, stick to weeknights or go out earlier in the evening. Conversely, if you want the full party atmosphere, grab a reservation or arrive early to secure a spot at the trendier cocktail bars before they reach capacity.
As the sun sets behind the mountains and the lake reflects the glowing lights of the old town, Annecy reveals a magical side that is best experienced with a glass in hand. The city’s bar scene is a reflection of its personality: elegant, unpretentious, and deeply connected to its natural surroundings. Whether you spent your evening discussing the nuances of a local white wine or laughing over a creative cocktail, the memories made here will linger long after the last sip.
Ultimately, the best bar in Annecy is the one that feels right for your specific moment. Use this guide as a starting point, but do not be afraid to wander down a cobblestone alley or follow the sound of live music. The true charm of this alpine paradise lies in its ability to surprise you, offering warm hospitality and world-class drinks in a setting that feels almost too beautiful to be real.
