Annecy is often called the “Venice of the Alps,” but as the sun drops behind the mountains, the city transforms from a postcard-perfect daytime destination into a sophisticated evening playground. While the canals and the crystal-clear lake steal most of the attention during the day, the real magic happens several stories above the cobblestones.
The rooftop bar scene here is uniquely Alpine. You are not just looking at a generic skyline; you are sipping a chilled Savoie wine while gazing directly at the turrets of the Château d’Annecy or the still waters of Lake Annecy reflecting the fading alpenglow.
Whether you are looking for a romantic date spot, a place to unwind after a day of cycling, or a chic location to watch the world go by, the elevated terraces of this Haute-Savoie town offer something truly special. The atmosphere tends to be more relaxed and intimate than in larger French cities, blending mountain casualness with French elegance.
Finding the best spots requires local knowledge, as some of these terraces are hidden within boutique hotels or tucked away from the bustling rue Sainte-Claire. This guide covers the finest elevated drinking and dining experiences the city has to offer.
From sunset cocktails to late-night digestifs, we have curated a list that prioritizes view quality, drink craftsmanship, and overall ambiance. Prepare to elevate your Annecy experience—literally.
Here are the standout terraces and high-altitude bars you need to visit.

Had a very good 2 course dinner here mid-week. The menu has quite a few options with a mixture of classic French and other nationalities. All the food was very fresh and seasoned well. Desserts are classic and excellent. Quiet mid-week but I think it livens up on the weekend.

Very modern place, with a fancy touch. The food was good but not exquisite, best one in our opinion was the burger. However, price-quality wise it wasn’t perfect, therefore the 3/5.

The food was very good and the staff was friendly to foreigners. The coulant chocolat dessert is a must-have.

Absolutely no star and very disappointing. We visited on 6/8/26 having seen the reviews . There were just the two of us at 21.20 . Firstly I moved my chair. The chair leg went into the drain adjacent to my seat and I fell over . No help no apology!
We then asked for two very simple Gin and Tonics. In particular French Gin Citadel, considering we were the only two people it took ages it seemed it was more important to finish what he was doing rather than the customers .
Only then to suffer insult and disappointment when the G&Ts arrived as he used soda as he freely admitted he'd run out of tonic . When I complained he went to another establishment and topped our gins with tonic water. Gin which tasted more like Roku the Japanese Gin .
Very poor very disappointed , and he blatantly expected us to just accept it for €28.00 . He then sat down at another table with a lady giggling. NOT IMPRESSED and I'd say do not visit a rip off, and don't take your customers tourists or otherwise for fools .

La-Haut is another restaurant that proves while my favourite Michelin designation is Bib Gourmand.
What a gem this was, hidden far from the busy streets with a balcony that has some stunning views to the mountains.
Genuinely warm, friendly and efficient service from the team built upon the delicious food that we ate. Each dish was generous and very flavoursome.
Definitely worth a visit when in Annecy. We plan to return!
Hui Min Ng★★★★★
We were recommended this place by ChatGPT (haha) which said that this restaurant has scenic views away from the busiest streets. True as it was indeed away from the busy streets. The restaurant is on level 4 of a building in a rather quiet street so we actually doubted ourselves whether we were headed the right place…
Upon arrival, the restaurant was empty (as we arrived 15 mins before they opened) and we continued to wonder if the restaurant was any good.
But our doubts very quickly went away when once service began, the lady came and started to patiently explain the menu to us especially regarding the non dairy food choices available (because we indicated in our booking that one of us does not take dairy) and what they could do to change the sauces of some of the dishes. I don’t take dairy and understand that it is not easy to accommodate for French cuisine and some restaurants will just outrightly tell you they can’t accommodate at all. So we were very impressed at the level of service and the fact that they were prepared to accommodate and were very kind and patient about it.
The food was very good. Every single course was well executed and the modified dishes without sauces were also very good. This to me really shows the culinary excellence of the chef - the dishes can be modified without compromising the quality of the taste.
Food was very value for money too.
Overall a very good experience and well worth the trip to the restaurant.

Fantastic restaurant by a dedicated chef. Recently received a Michelin distinction. Highly recommended. Pricing was very fair. Atmosphere was very nice once you get in. The location is a little off. Parking under the commercial building is weird. But it of worth the effort.

You will never find this place without the reviews or word of mouth! In the dark, it is esp. difficult, but, because we had read reviews, we found it and if you look at the photos, you'll see why you could easily miss this restaurant. We came here because of the reviews and photos, and it was a 15 mins walk to where we were staying. Before we start on the food, the WC IS inside the restaurant, it's well hidden behind the black door on the same side as the living-wall plants! Myself and many other patrons had fun finding it!! A suggestion to management, make the sign more obvious, maybe on the centre of the door. Anyway, they were very clean! Ha ha! 3 course evening meal the Le Haut menu for 41 Euros, including an amuse bouche and 3 types of unlimited bread and table water, was great! Excellent English spoken by all 3 servers. Each dish was explained in great detail. Portion sizes good. You don't leave hungry! Friendly, unhurried service in a cosily lit space. The plastic chairs could do with some cushions, because they looked chic but they weren't super comfortable. There are, however, some long cushioned seats along the wall, where the toilet door is! The flavours we find, are always best in the starters. For some reason, the mains never quite match the uniqueness of the starters in these types of fine dining restaurants. There is only a choice of 2 dishes, if you go for the Le Haut Menu, so I would suggest share each dish, that way you get to try 6 different dishes in total. 5 stars well deserved. We went to Le Petit Thiou the other day which also gets 4.9 on Google reviews, it was great too, so trust us! We also like the fact that there is no dodgy service charge. The website menu is up to date. Bien fait Là Haut!

We come to this establishment regularly, but we were disappointed the last time we went… we knew that Cokes were served by the glass, but this time there were as many ice cubes as in a cocktail.
To be clear, we ordered a double Coke, but it was actually 25cl, for €10!!

The decor is magnificent! I'm definitely going to steal the idea of the half-spheres of disco fixed to the ceiling for my apartment, sorry 😅 Cozy atmosphere, music not too loud in the early evening so perfect for chatting, and super good cocktails!

Awful bartenders.
They forced us to pay 100 bucks for a bottle we didn't even drink, after we'd already spent money throughout the evening. The bartenders were incredibly rude when we just wanted to talk to them calmly, and they got all defensive. After paying for a bottle we didn't even drink, I should add, we were then kicked out by the bouncer.
Honestly, it's shameful.

Had my birthday meal at Les Terrasses and couldn’t have picked a better spot. The view over the lake is beautiful, especially in the evening, and made it feel like a really nice setting for a special occasion.
The food was excellent, and the service was friendly and attentive throughout.
Definitely a great place for a meal in Annecy, especially if you’re looking for somewhere a little special.
Sergej Polescuk★★★★★
Les,Terrasses completely restored our faith in dining in Annecy.
First of all — the view over the lake is absolutely breathtaking. Sitting there in the evening already feels special before the food even arrives.
The service was warm, elegant and genuinely attentive throughout the entire evening. But the real highlight was the cuisine itself. We know France quite well and have experienced many excellent restaurants, so it becomes harder and harder to truly surprise us. Yet this place managed to do exactly that.
The dishes were not just “good French food” — they had their own personality, their own signature style. Every flavor felt rich, refined and deeply thought through. Every single bite was pure enjoyment. Combined with an excellent wine selection, the whole evening created this rare feeling of happiness when everything simply fits together perfectly: the place, the atmosphere, the taste, the moment.
Thanks to Les Terrasses, our visit to Annecy suddenly felt magical again.
A truly memorable experience.

Amazing food, service and views. One not to miss
Beware that the sign to the small road to the restaurant is small (on the left when going up the hill). Google maps works to get there

Outstanding service, this restaurant is so gorgeously located - I felt like we got one of the best spots in the house. Great wine and delicious food… we ordered the burrata, Atlantic char, and beef. Kat T★★☆☆☆
Beautiful view of Lake Annecy — that's the draw here, and likely why the ratings look good. But be aware, this feels a bit like a tourist trap: the food and service don't match the price or the setting.
We ordered the some small fishes. Pech filet and charcuterie board to start. For mains, we ordered cod, arctic char, pork chop, and the dish of the day (chicken with couscous). The cod had a distinct ammonia smell, a sign the fish wasn't fresh. We flagged this with the staff, but nothing was done about it — no apology, no adjustment, nothing. The rest of the dishes were unremarkable, nothing that justified the prices.
Service was the bigger issue. No one checked on our table during the meal or asked if we'd like another drink. The dish of the day was supposed to include dessert, but it was never brought out — we were simply handed the check.
If you're visiting Annecy, enjoy the lake, but I'd look elsewhere for the meal.
Krista Petkov★★★★☆
The food was incredible. The octopus and artichoke risotto was memorable for sure. The service was awful, though. And the wine glasses were not perfectly clean (residue around the rim) and pretty tacky to have the measuring line along the wine glass for such a nice place. Sunset was beautiful from this spot. Would come back for the food and sunset, not anything else.
Marcus Ardelean★★★★☆
Very good food (except the cannelloni which had that low quality frozen fish bad taste), good location and view, however the service is not up to par.
Had a reservation but still had to wait for a table to be free before being seated. There are only a few tables that can accommodate 4 people (I find it weird, but I guess they target couples more). We got a table that was a round table wheel with a tree in the middle and barely any space for the legs, with also 2 tables right behind us so an awkward position.
After being seated and waiting several minutes without even receiving a menu, I had to resort to calling the waiter with my hand which I find rude myself but it was an unacceptable situation.
Jeffrey Tanggau★★★★☆
Came here with my family and I must say the food was rather good. The only let down was that their English menu was not updated, we initially came to this spot to have oysters but they were out.
Nonetheless, the view of the sunset at the lake, with the other good we ordered were quite good. The service staff were friendly and we all had a nice time.
Parking can be an issue.
Ge fr★☆☆☆☆
Very disappointing experience.
When we arrived at 11:50 for our table booked at 12:00, the restaurant staff refused to open the parking gate. Their explanation was that they were having lunch, despite there being at least eight waiters on duty. It wasn't a very welcoming start.
Unfortunately, the food was equally disappointing. We had a wonderful experience here last year, but this time the quality had dropped significantly. It seems the change of chef has completely altered the dining experience, and not for the better. The dishes were ordinary and lacked the quality we had previously enjoyed.
It's a real shame because the location itself is lovely. However, between the poor customer service and the underwhelming food, we won't be returning anytime soon. I hope the restaurant can regain the standard it once had.

Great beer bar. There was a quality beer taps list. The tapas were great. Much better than a lot of craft beer places. We wished this was our local.

Nice spot for a drink and meal. Tapas style menu is short but varied and everything we tried was good. Note that portions are fairly generous so four tapas was plenty for two of us and we could have done with three. The baked goat cheese with honey, thyme and apples was particularly tasty, and the pea cakes (similar to falafel) with yogurt were very nice. The setting is right next to the river but you can’t really see it given the landscaping. As with most places in Annecy, a fair amount of smoking on the terrace so try to sit strategically if you don’t want to taste smoke with your food.

Lovely varied selection of generous tapas portions, served with chilled drinks by the waterside. The place seemed to be full of locals & families which was nice. Service was slow but attentive. Would definitely be back.

Good location for a drink. By the looks of it, the prices have remained the same for a couple of years. But I was overcharged, so when there was the option to tip for ordering at the bar and carrying it myself, I opted for zero.
The hot cappuccino was the best one I had in France. Cold coffee was the same as everywhere else and not anything special.

We were newcomers to Annecy and had planned to stay there three days to explore the city and the area in general as we certainly did. But the real reason for the visit to Annecy was celebrating my birthday with my son and friends. For that particular occasion we had searched social media and the internet in advance to give a clue what to check/pass by in person to see how it really looked before deciding anything..hoping there still were availabilities.
Anyway, we spent half a day strolling around in the city just for that but somehow we didn't feel good enough about.. what we had seen and even got recommendations beforehand should be ideal for such an occasion.
Already in middle in the afternoon of my birthday and a bit tired after a long day strolling around to find the right place to celebrate at dinner and not feeling content about what we had seen with our own eyes (not only on photos from various social media options), we happened to be standing in a street in front of a hotel (Hôtel Les Pélican) near the lake and noticed a nice terrace/balcony above one the second floor. Let's check what's there and we went inside by the hotel's main entrance and upstairs to find access onto the terrace: Wow, that's the right place, elegant environment with stunning views over the lake...for us to celebrate tonight!
We were lucky and reserved..to be back there after three hours for dinner.
It was an amazing evening we enjoyed there June 19, 2026. Everybody was very happy about the food each had chosen from the menu, the wine and desserts.
The service was excellent and the staff friendly and professional.
I can with genuine and pure pleasure recommend this restaurant Ô Bon Bec!

We stayed 3 days at the Le pelican Hotel in Annecy and had a fantastic experience overall. On our first night, we dined at the Bon O bec Restaurant Lounge, and it was truly memorable. The view is absolutely stunning you can enjoy the beautiful scenery while having dinner, which creates such a relaxing and chic atmosphere. The food was delicious simple yet refined – and the staff were very friendly and welcoming.
After dinner, we headed to the Rooftop at ô cèdre, which was another highlight of the evening. The ambiance was great and the staff there were exceptional the tall guy in the rooftop bar is super friendly so attentive and genuinely warm. It was a really good experience from start to finish.

The worst meal we had on our 17 night trip to France .My Cerviche was just odd , no lime or citrus it was just bland. The Sea Bream I left , no one asked throughout the meal if we were enjoying it , then took the plate away saying nothing when I complained I hadnt liked it .We had to go to the bar to pay as our table seemed a no go zone after my observations on the food
Its expensive and I would have expected more.
LArtisan next door the night before was amazing - cheaper, with superb food , friendly service a real ten out of ten experience
Save your money and go next door !!

Great friendly pub with an excellent choice of beers and other drinks. Food choice is very good and the quality is excellent. Prices are on a par if not better than most. Service is great very friendly and they were happy to bring an ice bucket for a large bottle of delicious Belgian beer served in the proper Belgian glasses.

Good tunes.. loads of nooks and crannies in thus pub. Lots of outside seating just at the bridge. 3 beers €26... Average prices for area. Golf was on the TV. Goid mix of people inside and outside.

Good atmosphere, busy, but tables were available. Nice beer, plenty of choice. We went during happy hour, there were several drinks that were relatively inexpensive. Opted for an IPA that turned out to be €10 for 500ml glass. One of the dearer pints of the week. The trade off was that it was in the middle of the Old Town, full of tourists. Nice pint though, did I say that.

Excellent service, bar staff are absolutely fantastic and a credit to the establishment. Raphael was excellent and very helpful in providing advice on drinks and what to do in Annecy, a real credit to the pub!

I loved the design of this place, set in a rustic old ship that gives it a unique and charming atmosphere. We had a burger, salad, stew, and desserts, all of which were delicious.
The staff were kind and friendly, though it took a little while for the food to arrive. One highlight you must try is the flaming crème brûlée — the waiter prepares and torches it right at your table, which makes the experience fun and memorable.

Great atmosphere, hip and laid back spot. I was attracted due to the English menu but doesn’t feel like a tourist trap. All locals inside just hanging out having drinks. I ordered steak with cheese sauce and rose to drink.

Open for beverages only. Cappuccino is THE best! Came back 3 different times. Macchiato was good too. But the cappuccino is amazing! And watching the people and the canal is the icing on the cake.

Had a lovely breakfast here with an even better view. Good value for money especially on such a location
Breakfast formula was €8.5 for a coffee, orange juice and a pain au chocolat
Sidenote: our dog accidentally knocked over our coffee cup and broke it, we were quite embarrassed but they were very helpful. Highly recommend

I visited Le Phoenix and was very impressed with the food, the atmosphere, and the service. The quality of the food was very high, and every bite was superb. The location, right in the heart of the city, boasts some nice views too and I can imagine sitting outside in Summer would be very enjoyable. It was a very pleasant experience and I will definitely return next time I am in Annecy.

Tips for Enjoying Annecy’s Rooftop Bars
To make the most of your elevated evening in the Alps, a little preparation goes a long way. The culture here is a blend of relaxed mountain life and French dining etiquette, and the weather can shift quickly due to the proximity of the lake and peaks. Understanding the local rhythm will ensure you get the best seat, the best light, and the best experience.
Time your visit for the "Golden Hour"
The sunset in Annecy is a spectacle, particularly when viewed from a height. The sun sets behind the Semnoz mountain, casting a warm glow over the lake and the old town’s orange rooftops. Arrive 45 minutes to an hour before the scheduled sunset to secure a prime railing spot. This is especially crucial during the summer months when tourists flood the town and rooftop seating is at a premium.
Dress in layers
Even on a scorching summer day, the temperature on a rooftop terrace drops significantly once the sun disappears behind the mountains. A light jacket, shawl, or sweater is essential for staying comfortable after dark. The breeze coming off Lake Annecy can be deceptively cool, turning a pleasant evening chilly if you are only wearing summer attire.
Reservations are non-negotiable in peak season
While some bars operate on a first-come, first-served basis for drinks, many of the best rooftops are attached to high-end hotels and restaurants. If you plan to eat dinner or want a guaranteed table for a large group, you must book ahead. Walk-ins are often turned away in July and August, particularly on weekends.
Understand the service style
Rooftop venues in France often operate with a hybrid system. You may be able to sit at the bar for a casual drink without a reservation, but the "best" tables are usually reserved for diners. If you are just drinking, be prepared to be flexible with your seating. Also, table service is standard; do not expect to order at the bar and carry your drink to a table unless explicitly invited to do so.
Explore beyond the Old Town
While the historic center has charm, some of the most breathtaking panoramic views are found slightly outside the immediate tourist core, often near the lakefront or in the heights surrounding the city. Don’t be afraid to walk ten minutes from the Palais de l’Isle to find a terrace that offers an unobstructed view of the water and the mountains rather than just the chimneys of the old town.
The beauty of a rooftop bar in Annecy is that it offers a moment of stillness above the bustling streets. It is a chance to appreciate the geography of the region—the sharp drop of the mountains into the lake—while enjoying the culinary excellence that the Haute-Savoie is known for. Whether you opt for a local Aperol Spritz variation or a glass of Mondeuse, the experience is uniquely tied to the landscape.
As you plan your itinerary, remember that these venues are not just places to drink; they are vantage points that tell the story of the city. Take your time, put the phone down between photos, and simply enjoy the rare privilege of seeing one of Europe’s most beautiful towns from a different angle.
