12 Best Aesthetic Cafes in Menton

Stepping into Menton feels like walking onto a film set where the Mediterranean light is softer, the lemons are brighter, and the pace of life slows to a gentle murmur. Nestled between the mountains and the sea on the French Riviera, this town is famous for its citrus groves and pastel-hued old town, but it is also quietly cultivating a reputation for beautiful spaces to sit and savor a moment.

For the modern traveler, the quest for the perfect coffee or a delicate pastry is often intertwined with the desire for an atmosphere that feels curated and inspiring. Whether you are looking for a sun-dappled terrace to enjoy a mid-morning espresso or a moody, design-forward interior to escape the afternoon heat, Menton offers a surprising variety of options that go beyond the standard brasserie.

The aesthetic of a cafe here is defined by more than just its decor; it is the marriage of the view, the texture of the tableware, the quality of the light, and the scent of roasting beans drifting through the air. These spaces serve as social hubs for locals and creative havens for remote workers and artists who have long been drawn to the Côte d’Azur for its inspiring scenery.

In this guide, we have curated a selection of spaces that prioritize design, atmosphere, and high-quality offerings. We have considered the visual appeal of the interiors, the comfort of the seating, the presentation of the food, and, of course, the standard of the coffee and patisserie.

Whether you are a photographer hunting for the perfect flat lay, a couple seeking a romantic spot for a citrus-infused treat, or a solo traveler needing a cozy corner to journal, this list will point you in the right direction. These are the places where the ambiance is just as delicious as the menu.

Here is our curated selection of the most beautiful spots to enjoy a coffee in the "Pearl of France."

A great spot for a relaxed breakfast or lunch. They serve food until 3 pm, and beverages until 5 pm, which is perfect if you’re not an early riser or want to linger a bit longer. The coffee is excellent, and the fresh juice or smoothie of the day is always a treat. The avocado toast options are a highlight. I especially loved the “Summer Toast” with grilled vegetables, full of flavour and beautifully done. They also offer a nice selection of cookies, cakes, and other baked goods if you’re in the mood for something sweet. On top of that, the people working there are warm and friendly, which makes the whole experience even more enjoyable. Simple, fresh, and consistently delicious
Yanitzel Karina★★★★★
Highly recommend when you're visiting Menton. Food was amazing! The staff were so warm and welcoming, also they speak different languages so you will not face gap communication. Turkish eggs, delicious!
Patrick Smolders★★★★☆
Nice atmosphere and decoration. Eggs benedict 18,50 Euro and Ice Matcha for 8,50 Euro so expensive for Menton standards. High quality food.
santini shop★★★★★
Difficult in these times to get a proper filter coffee, the big chains have dove away with them, and being so close to Italy, most coffee’s are Italo-centric. So what a chance to find a coffee house that checks that box. Add to this the choice of fine homemade cakes (cinnamon rolls heated when served!) a relaxed atmosphere, polite and courteous staff, just what’s needed for a break. “You know, this is — excuse me — a damn fine cup of coffee. I’ve had many cups of coffee in my life, but this is one of the best.” Dale Cooper.
Lori Hamilton★★★★★
This place far exceed my expectations! The food, service, and location were fantastic! And the waitresses spoke English. The only negative was that some customers were smoking near us. You can't control that, though. Pictured is Eggs Benedict and Banana Pancakes with caramel and walnuts. We didn't order any sweet potato fries, but they looked fantastic! We paid about 20 Euros per person.

This is Menton’s best matcha spot. The owner is incredibly kind, and the matcha is really good. The only downside is that they only have vegetarian milk options like coconut or oat milk. Other than that, it’s a great option.
Noemi Nieberl★★☆☆☆
The place looked promising, but we left disappointed. The matchas don't match the picture, neither in color nor in quality. It was grainy. I asked for a warm matcha latte and recived in a cup with a straw. The vanilla matcha did not have any matcha flavour, more like vanilla milk.
Samuel Wolf★★★★★
Very tasty Matcha, coffees, chocolate, everything with different plant-based milk alternatives which you also could choose from I guess, but I just ordered and let the bartender decide 🙂 (No cow's milk available!) There are really fancy drinks that look and taste fantastic, everything made on the spot. Also there's sushi and bowls which are also really good. The owner (?) is really friendly and speaks good English. Please support this small local business! 🙂

Hands down the best specialty coffee and pastries in town! The staff here are super friendly and welcoming, and everything from their pour-overs to the baked goods is absolutely top-notch. Truly an awesome spot—if you appreciate really good coffee, this place is an absolute must!
Muj Bagel★★★★★
A fantastic new spot right in the heart of the Menton market! ☕️✨ Koko Café has amazing coffee, lovely service from the girls, and the food is absolutely top. Everything feels fresh, welcoming, and full of good energy. Definitely worth a visit if you’re in Menton! ❤️
Hélder Diniz★★★★★
Fine cuisine, specialty coffee and in house baking seem to be KOKOs standout points. I’ve been staying a few days in south of France and stumbled upon KOKO’s interesting menu, decided to stop for lunch. They had no more free seats but the sweet Camille made sure we would get fed 😄 and served us a meal in outside tables, where she had to cross 1/4 of the market to get to us. Then Rosanna’s cooking made us speechless with a point-perfect swordfish and a tomato beurre blanc sauce out of this world. I was genuinely impressed with the presentation and level of detail and flavor that was delivered from a “simple small kitchen” in a market. Wish I lived in Menton to experience this regularly. Wishing all success to KOKO

Fabulous! Great spot right next to the beach. Super friendly and kind staff. Perfect for the end of a beach day; drinks and tapas style food. We had 3 piece Empanada (beef, chicken, and tomato & mozzarella), and guac and hummus with pitta and tortillas. Delicious! Thank you so much for a wonderful welcome and experience.
Arpit Mittal★★★★★
Came here for drinks with friends. The atmosphere was relaxed and inviting, just the kind of place where you want to linger a little longer. Alan took great care of us throughout the evening, always kind and smiling, and even surprised us with a complimentary snack. The drinks were larger than expected and beautifully made. The Mademoiselle is great. Overall, it felt warm, easy, and genuine a spot I’d happily come back to. Highly recommend!

In a desert of joyful servers in our trip to Menton, we found an oasis of joy at Lemon Bay! The people here are happy, cheerful, and so friendly. The food was delicious, the beer refreshing, and the views of the bay and Menton incredible. Highly recommend spending an afternoon under the shade soaking joie de vivre!
Carly Davison★★★★★
Had the best lunch here today. The staff was so kind and welcoming. Cannot recommend this spot enough!
Alicia X★★☆☆☆
Feeling Scammed, ordered an ice latte and give me a Frappuccino of 7 euros which I have no idea cuz it taste the same just with whipped cream. It’s so tiny as well maybe 180ml max without the whipped cream part. My bad for trusting local business in such a touristy place.

This place is an absoloute gem and a must visit in Menton, epecially if you want to concentrate a bit on somie work, answers some e-mails or just enjoy a relaxed coffee - all the coffee drinks we tried were excellent. I visited many times (and also Recife before the change) and really felt at home, thought some deep thought and wrote some good stuff, and the same goes for my wife. The host is very welcoming and friendly and the options for grabbing a bite are excellent!
Elisabeth Greger★★★★★
Best coworking café in town! We drive everyday from Italy to meton just to visit o recife! Best pain au chocolates! I can highly recommend the place for remote workers. It has a space in the back only for laptop workers, it’s quiet, the WIFI is amazing, and the prices are very fair. The owner is very nice and helped us with lunch recommendations. We’ll definitely come back. Every small + big town should have a place like O recife
Sofiia Shcherbak★★★★★
Great spot with a wide selection of tasty drinks and desserts, lovely atmosphere, and very friendly staff! I'll definitely be back next time I'm in Menton!

Lovely place to work in with plenty of space, cozy decor, and sunlight. The coffee was excellent and their courgette/chèvre quiche was fresh and yummy. Highly recommend (The place is actually called Flowy now btw!)

JULIDE★★★☆☆
It’s not really possible to sit at the table you prefer, as most of them are marked as reserved. We were told reserved guests would arrive, but no one came, so we ended up at a very uncomfortable table for two, which made breakfast difficult as even our plates barely fit. The staff were good, and I don’t think this was their fault. It seems more like the management’s approach, and because of this I was not fully satisfied.
Vicente Ramirez Garat★★☆☆☆
The service was great until we got the owner. We had an issue with our order and she (at first) refused to change it. We ended up paying for something we didn’t even consume. And honestly the food was not fresh at all. Wouldn’t come back. Keep walking and you’ll find way better options at the same price.
Erika Steponavičiūtė★★☆☆☆
Food was very mid for the price, lack of flavour, not tasty. I don’t know why people evaluate this place with good stars. Location was good. Waiter (male) was positive, though more smilling would be appreciated :))
Christopher Varney★★★★★
We are on an extended state here in Menton (from Canada) and discovered Vanilla Bakery. It was our hope to find a local coffee shop to call our own while away. Vanilla has delivered in every way! Their menu is outstanding with budget friendly pricing. The shop is extremely clean and bright and to top it all off the staff are wonderful and have become our friends. Highly recommend!
Rachel Kreynin★★★★★
Nice bakery in Menton with a tasty croissant selection, from plain croissants to pistachio croissants and the croissant was fresh and perfectly textured. My cafe latte was also well crafted with a good amount of milk foam and served with a glass of water. The atmosphere is nice, with outside and inside seating and umbrellas outside for shade. The service was quick and friendly. I look forward to my next visit

Great coffee and bagels. Really top. Staff was super friendly and also spoke very good english as a bonus. Perfect for a quick coffee and breakfast there or to take with at the beach nearby. Also prices good.

Very friendly owner. Tasty food. Glutenfree brownies. The only thing missing is a vegan option for breakfast. Large variety of teas.
Fawwaz Nik Abdul Aziz★★★★★
We were greeted as soon as we walked in. The decoration feels warm and cozy for a quick break from Menton “hiking”. We were recommended the bagel of the day, which was tuna mayonnaise bagel. IT WAS ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS! The softness of the bagel is balanced out with the other ingredients perfectly. For drinks we ordered the Marocchino, a mocha but with its own unique taste. Definitely one of the best cafe’s ive been in southern france ❤️
J Bra★★★★★
Please visit this sweet little cafe if you are in Menton. We stumbled upon this little gem in the heat of summer and grumpy tourists and were delighted that the hosts maintained an extremely cheery and helpful attitude towards all patrons. Food really good too and we are vegetarians! Good bagel sandwiches with thoughtful veggies and excellent prices. The star of our meal was the perfectly frozen coffees - so good we had 4!! But above all, some of the nicest hosts we encountered during our 2 week visit to the south of France. Good prices and good food and excellent hosts/owners! Just go and relax and be happy that you are in a little slice of heaven.

Gem! On my trip to Nice I hunted for a dirty chai latte but all of them where just not chai-y. Then I stumbled upon Edwige in Mentón and they know what they’re doing. Cute spot with great dirty chai latte, lemon cheesecake and I will definitely be back to try their bagels.

3.25 ⭐️ Stylish but overpriced and service was adequate but unremarkable. Tried the; ☕️ The Cold Coffee Cream & Milk Cream - was on the sweeter side yet refreshing ☕️ Summer Fruit Smoothie - was dense and overly thick, making it difficult to enjoy. ☕️ Croissant - was disappointing, lacking flakiness and tasting stale rather than fresh.

Amazing staff, backed by phenomenal food. Already our highlight of Menton. Already feels like an institution. You’d be doing yourself a disservice not popping by for a caprese sandwich and fougrasse not to mention some of Menton’s famous lemonade.

Really friendly and helpful staff, with phenomenal sandwiches. Absolutely worth a visit!
Bram Schouten★★★★★
What a lovely spot! We stopped by Mitron café and enjoyed coffee, freshly squeezed juice, and water — all spot on. But the star of the morning was without a doubt the lemon cake: the best I’ve ever tasted. Fresh, just sweet enough, and bursting with real lemon flavour. On top of that, the owner was incredibly friendly and welcoming, which made the visit complete. If you’re in Menton, this place is a must. We’ll definitely be back!
Maddy Payne★★★★★
Beautiful cafe with delicious food, tasty lemonade and homemade local cakes! The staff were so lovely and accommodating, finding us an extra table and explaining all the sandwiches in English. Nice views too!

Everything we got was very good, I would have however appreciated some more iced coffee options, especially in these super hot summer days!

Tips for Enjoying Menton’s Cafe Culture

To make the most of your time drifting between these beautiful spaces, it helps to understand the rhythm of the town and the etiquette of the French cafe scene. While these establishments are welcoming, knowing when to go and what to order will significantly enhance your experience and allow you to blend in seamlessly with the local pace of life.

  1. Time Your Visit with the Light: The golden hour in Menton is magical, but it also draws crowds. If you want to photograph the interiors or secure the best terrace seat with a sea view, aim to arrive during the "off" hours. Mid-morning (around 10:00 AM) or late afternoon (after 3:00 PM) are ideal for avoiding the lunch rush while still enjoying excellent natural light.
  2. Understand the Counter vs. Table Pricing: In many French cafes, the price of your coffee changes depending on where you consume it. Standing or sitting at the bar (comptoir) is usually cheaper than sitting at a table (salle) or on the terrace (terrasse). If you are on a budget but still want to soak in the aesthetics, consider having your first espresso at the bar before moving on.
  3. Embrace the "Citron" Specialties: Menton is world-renowned for its lemons, and the best aesthetic cafes lean heavily into this local ingredient. Do not leave without trying a tarte au citron, a lemon-infused iced tea, or a local pastry that features the Menton IGP citrus. It is the most authentic way to taste the terroir.
  4. Ask for "Une Carafe d’Eau": Tap water is free and safe to drink in France. If you are settling in to work or read for a few hours, do not feel pressured to buy multiple bottles of water. Asking for a carafe of water is standard practice and allows you to save your budget for another round of coffee or a beautiful pastry.
  5. Check for Seasonal Closures: The French Riviera is a seasonal destination, and while Menton has a strong year-round local population, some smaller boutique cafes may close for a few weeks in November or January for renovations and rest. If you have your heart set on a specific venue, it is always wise to check their Instagram or Google Business Profile for updated opening hours before making the trek.

The true beauty of Menton’s cafe scene lies in its ability to slow you down. Unlike the fast-paced coffee culture of larger metropolitan cities, these spaces encourage you to linger, to watch the world go by, and to appreciate the craftsmanship in both the architecture and the coffee cup.

As you wander the narrow, cobbled streets of the old town or stroll along the Promenade du Soleil, let your curiosity guide you. The best moments are often found in the unplanned pauses—a quiet courtyard, a splash of bougainvillea against a weathered wall, or a perfectly frothed cappuccino enjoyed under the Riviera sun. Menton invites you not just to see the beauty, but to taste it.
