Menton may be famous for its lemons, gardens and pastel-coloured old town, but its dining scene has quietly become one of the most interesting on the French Riviera. While it lacks the sheer volume of restaurants found in Nice or Cannes, what it offers instead is intimacy, character and a genuine connection to the borderland culture between France and Italy. For lovers of Asian cuisine, this means a surprisingly varied selection of tables that range from refined Japanese counters to family-run Vietnamese kitchens.
The town’s proximity to the Italian border has shaped its palate for generations, yet the demand for the delicate balance of soy, ginger, lemongrass and fresh seafood has grown considerably. Many of the best addresses are tucked into narrow streets in the pedestrian centre, just a short walk from the sea. Because Menton is a compact town, you can often explore several neighbourhoods in a single evening and still make it to the beach for a moonlit stroll after dinner.
Unlike the fast-paced turnover of larger tourist hubs, Menton’s Asian restaurant owners tend to know their regulars by name. This creates a welcoming atmosphere for visitors who want more than a quick meal. Whether you are craving a steaming bowl of ramen after a winter walk through the lemon festival or delicate sushi on a warm summer night, the local scene delivers both comfort and quality.
Seasonality also plays a role here. Many kitchens adjust their menus based on what is fresh at the nearby Marché des Halles, and several Japanese chefs work closely with local fishmongers to source Mediterranean catch for their daily specials. This fusion of Provençal produce and Asian technique is one of the reasons Menton has become a quiet destination for curious food lovers.
Parking in the old town can be challenging during peak season, so it is often wise to reserve a table and arrive on foot or by train. The Menton train station places you within easy walking distance of nearly every address on this list. Most restaurants also offer takeaway options if you prefer to enjoy your meal with a sea view from a bench on the Promenade du Soleil.
The following selection focuses on consistency, atmosphere and value. It includes a range of price points so that both families on holiday and couples celebrating a special occasion can find the right fit. Every restaurant has been chosen for its dedication to authentic flavours and its ability to make guests feel genuinely welcome.

What a superb place! We were wandering around Menton, looking for a place to eat covering the various dietary requirements of our group of 5. We came across Kao Bistrothai and it was very busy. A small wait for our table and it was worth it.
The staff were amazing and were very happy to look after us.
If we're back in Menton again next year we will definitely reserve here

A lovely little find in Menton as a last minute decision to go out for a light meal. We were very lucky and got the last available unreserved table, so definitely need to reserve here. It’s very popular! The service was excellent and the food good. The sticky mango rice was delicious.

In Menton, make sure to visit the new Thai bistro called Kao. It’s run by a lovely couple, everything is welcoming and tasteful: a Thai style, pleasant details, and delicious cuisine. We ordered tom yum and tom kha—both were perfect. The owner personally looked after the guests. In the end, we were thrilled and recommend it to anyone who’s tired of the usual Mediterranean flavors of Menton and wants to try something different and tasty👌

Had a wonderful experience at Kao Bistrothai in Menton with my mother. From the moment we arrived, the atmosphere was warm, relaxing, and beautifully welcoming. The food was absolutely amazing — fresh, flavorful, and clearly prepared with great care.
A special thank you to Paul, the owner, for creating such a lovely place, and to Mari for the outstanding service throughout the evening. Their kindness and attentiveness really made the experience memorable.
If you’re looking for excellent Thai food, a fantastic atmosphere, and genuinely great hospitality in Menton, this place is definitely worth visiting.
Highly recommended!!!!

Our server was the kindest and sweetest person we have ever had the pleasure of meeting.

Well well well… I must say I have eaten in a lot of restaurants, but this must be talked about. We just came across this restaurant without a booking and they were very amenable to get us a table. The reason I chose this restaurant was because I noticed that everyone’s food looked fantastic. I must say that EVERYTHING that came out of the kitchen looked fantastic, and the taste was perfect. These guys certainly know their stuff.. Small Menu meaning they can produce great food every time. The staff were absolutely first class. This restaurant was in a side street in Menton but I understand they have a larger one near the port. I cannot rate this highly enough. Definitely worth a try…. Thank you for my perfect meal x

I visited L’eventail Menton on the 6th August 2026 for dinner with a friend . We felt very welcomed and I have a little dog . They were dog friendly and the service was quick and everyone smiley with good energy.
For a started we shared the printemps de rouleux and then we had a pad Thai each. They have all the vegetarian options so I have the tofu pad Thai and my friend has the chicken pad Thai. Portion sizes are very filling and we both polished off the plates. Definitely recommend to anyone staying in Menton. We went to the restaurant in the little side street in town, apparently they have the same restaurant on the beachfront so I will try this out another time for sure .

The fried chicken salad was incredibly good! Somehow, the batter was still very crispy even after being mixed in with the salad greens, veggies, and dressing. And each piece of fried chicken was cooked perfectly. Loved it!

I really enjoy this sushi restaurant, it is the highest quality, delicious, fresh and most convenient here without going to Monaco I even like it more than most sushi restaurants in Monaco. It is very convenient with the online ordering and I like how he keeps it small with take away only. The space is cute, clean and modern, I can tell the owner really cares about high quality and presentable food.

In a world full of pasta and pizza, it was very nice to stumble upon this restaurant in the old town of Menton. The food was excellent, the service was excellent and the place was excellent with a very good AC. It different from the main street establishments. Run by 2 brothers that are building the place from the ground. Give them a visit and their food a chance. I don't think you will regret it. Highly recomended.

Absolutely first class! There were three of us, and it was an incredible dining experience. The Korean tabletop BBQ concept is fantastic. For starters, we had the excellent homemade kimchi (Kimchi Maison) and pork gyozas. We also tried both signature broths – the mild Bouillon Soban (soy, garlic, and ginger) and the Bouillon Épicé with gochujang – and both were full of deep, rich flavors. For the main course, we grilled the Honey Sriracha Chicken, the classic Beef Bulgogi, and the shrimp. The meat was perfectly marinated, and grilling it ourselves added a great vibe to our evening. Highly recommend this place, we will definitely be coming back!

One of the only sushi spots I could find. Worth the 40 minute walk from our hotel. They don’t do the flashy rolls with all the fried stuff and sauce, just really good sushi. Food came out quick and when the waitress brought me the wrong drink she left it and brought me the drink I ordered free of charge. The sashimi was top notch (the standard for a good spot). Great view of the ocean. I recommend the Me10 for a taste of everything (sashimi, Nigiri, and a roll) comes with cabbage salad, miso and rice, plenty of food and a great price. 5/5

Sushi was fresh, miso soup was bland, salad was delicious. Portions were extremely small considering the prices. Service was adequate, bordering on rude.
We came to the restaurant at 9 pm, prepared to eat swiftly because closing time was 10 pm. Perhaps this was the reason for the quality of the service. However, we will not return, and cannot recommend this place.

This place is amazing. The food was fresh and so much choice. Well worth the price and the service was really friendly and good. Would really recommend this place. Wish they would open a restaurant where we live.
Rich Boakes★★★★☆
An excellent selection of foods, and despite language differences (neither of us spoke particularly good French, but it was our lingua franca) the staff were able to communicate enthusiastically when more of a particular dish was about to arrive at the buffet (and fast and regular with the bottles of water too). It was raining when we arrived and tea towels had been hastily put on the floor to stop slips on the white tiled floor, this combined with the booth seating that looked both a little worn and unmatched with the decor to give a feeling of ephemerality to the place. Strangely after 9pm on a Sunday it felt more like a kids feeding station than a restaurant, probably on account of the pricing structure (which varies depending on the day and the time). At €20 per person before drinks it's not the cheapest meal, but far from expensive, and the quality, the variety and quantity are difficult to beat. Those with smaller appetites will get less value for their money. The hungry will leave with a very contented smile.
Jenn Rod★★★★☆

This is the biggest gem of the city. Really friendly guys cooking up some incredible food. I'd looked into the place in advance and was stunned to see it was quiet on a Saturday night, although we were there early.
Some of the best bao buns I've ever had, the beef rice dish was great and then the big surprise was the twist fries, I thought they'd just be some generic fries but they look like they're hand cut crispy fries wish I'd got a picture but they're honestly some of the best I've ever had. Every single one is perfectly crispy and soft inside.
How is this place not booked out for months, it's even very cheap - we got 2 X bao buns each (pictured) fries, chicken (pictured), two cokes and 2 main courses for 54 Eur! Get in and try it immediately!!

Amazing vegan food and staff, made our trip to Menton even better. Definitely difficult to find - it is part of Le31 Restaurant so you just need to ask staff or order on Ubereats.

Bowl BimBamBeef was terrible, too much sugar and salt, tons of vinegar, tasted like it was made from soy sauce concentrate. Bowl HotChicken was okay, just some crispy chicken with mayo sauce, white rice and some bland grated carrots. Pop Corn Chicken was also horrible, sauce was filled with salt/sugar, an insane amount of vinegar again, and soy sauce concentrate; threw it away after eating two pieces.
Very disappointed. Will not be ordering again.

Practical Tips for Choosing an Asian Restaurant in Menton
Before you book a table or set out for dinner, it helps to understand a few local dining customs and practical details. Menton is a border town with a strong Italian influence, and its Asian restaurants often blend French service rhythms with the relaxed pace of the Mediterranean. These tips will help you avoid common frustrations and make the most of your meal.
Book ahead on weekends and during the Fête du Citron. Menton’s population swells dramatically during the February lemon festival and the summer months. The most popular Japanese and Thai tables fill up quickly, often two or three days in advance. A quick phone call or online reservation is always worth the effort.
Ask about the daily fish specials. Many Japanese chefs in Menton receive fresh Mediterranean fish each morning. The daily specials often include local sea bream, red mullet or langoustine prepared as sashimi or lightly grilled. These dishes rarely appear on the printed menu and are usually the best value for quality.
Check whether the restaurant offers a lunch menu. If you want to experience a top kitchen without paying evening prices, look for a midday formule. Many establishments serve a set lunch that includes a starter, main course and sometimes a drink or dessert. It is an excellent way to sample high-end cooking for a fraction of the dinner cost.
Consider the time of year for outdoor seating. Several Asian restaurants in Menton have small terraces on pedestrian streets. These are delightful from April to October but can become windy near the seafront in winter. If you are visiting between November and March, request an indoor table when booking.
Be mindful of service hours. Unlike larger French cities, Menton still observes a distinct break between lunch and dinner service. Most Asian kitchens close between roughly 2:30 pm and 7:00 pm. If you arrive hungry at 4:00 pm, your options will be limited to bakeries and cafés, so plan your meal times accordingly.
Respect local payment habits. While credit cards are widely accepted, some smaller family-run restaurants prefer cash for small bills or have a minimum card amount. It is useful to carry a little cash, especially if you are ordering a few starters or a quick bowl of noodles.
Menton rewards those who slow down and savour their surroundings. A good meal here is rarely rushed, and the best Asian restaurants understand that dining is as much about atmosphere as it is about the plate. Whether you choose a quiet Vietnamese pho on a rainy evening or a celebratory omakase menu after a day on the coastal path, the town’s culinary offerings reflect its gentle, sun-soaked rhythm.
As you wander back through the old town after dinner, with the scent of citrus trees in the air and the sound of the Mediterranean in the distance, you may find that Menton’s Asian food scene feels less like a trend and more like a natural extension of its borderland soul. It is a place where distant culinary traditions meet Provençal warmth, and the result is worth seeking out.
