Nestled between the turquoise waters of Lac d’Annecy and the towering French Alps, Annecy is often called the “Venice of the Alps” for its winding canals and pastel-hued medieval houses. But beyond the postcard-perfect scenery lies a surprisingly dynamic food scene that has evolved far beyond the traditional Savoyard fondue and tartiflette. In recent years, the city has embraced a greener, more plant-forward culinary identity, making it a genuine destination for vegetarians and flexitarians alike.
Gone are the days when dining out meat-free in the French Alps meant settling for a side salad or a plain cheese pizza. Today, Annecy’s chefs are treating vegetables as the star of the plate, sourcing from local Alpine farms and pairing seasonal produce with regional cheeses, grains, and legumes. From cozy lakeside bistros to sleek, modern eateries tucked into the old town’s cobblestone lanes, there is a surprising depth of flavor waiting to be discovered.
The shift toward vegetarian dining in Annecy mirrors a broader cultural movement across France, where sustainability and wellness are reshaping menus. Even traditional Savoyard restaurants now offer thoughtful vegetarian versions of regional classics, proving that you don’t need meat to experience the soul of Alpine cuisine. This means visitors can enjoy the rich, comforting flavors of the mountains while sticking to a plant-based or vegetarian diet.
What makes Annecy particularly special for vegetarians is the quality of its local ingredients. The surrounding Haute-Savoie region produces exceptional cheeses like Reblochon, Tomme, and Abondance, along with fresh lake fish, wild herbs, and organic vegetables from mountain gardens. Many restaurants highlight these products on their menus, creating dishes that feel deeply connected to the terroir.
Whether you’re looking for a quick, healthy lunch between sightseeing stops or a leisurely dinner with views of the Thiou River, the city offers options for every budget and occasion. From fully vegan cafes to vegetarian-friendly fine dining, the variety ensures that no one has to compromise on taste or experience.
To help you navigate this evolving culinary landscape, we’ve curated a list of the twelve best vegetarian restaurants in Annecy. Each spot has been selected for its commitment to flavor, quality ingredients, and genuine hospitality toward plant-based diners.

We arrived here without reservation and found a table. They have interesting choices in vegan food. The smoothies are amazing particularly. So we tried their burger and the menu with 2 options - Fritata and rice with seitan. The fritata tastes good but is a bit too dry without enough sauce, we were offered extra sauce by the kind waitress. The fritata is taste and goes well with the sauce they make. The rice is ok, it could be better. The burger was the best vegan burger. So well paired with everything that add to it. A bit on the oily side (even though it said dehydrated potato chip), but very tasty. The desserts are pleasant. We took the home made snickers bar and a crumble of apples and blue berries. We also took a smoothie with banana, coconut milk, peanuts, etc. It was perfect with just enough sugar. I felt we could go again to try their different options as they menu changes often. We enjoyed the food and it was value for money.

Very friendly and welcoming vegan restaurant, we went there 3 times in 1 week already and will definitely come back again before our trip will end. You can taste that they use quality products and that they designg their products to be healthy and tasty. A must visit if you are vegan.

Super cute place!!! Would definitely return. We grabbed one of the complete plates and a burger and boy oh boy did it not disappoint. The portion sizes were generous, the flavors were delicious and the lady helping us was soooo kind and friendly. We had a great conversation with her and thanked her for all the delicious food. We grabbed a couple of the amazing desserts as well. This was a great way to cap off our day in Annecy before heading back to Nice. If you are looking for fantastic vegan (plant-based) food look no farther.

We went to this restaurant roughly 100 times in our month in Annecy. It happened to be very near our apartment and L’Alliance Française, where we studied for a month, but more importantly, it’s the ideal vegan cuisine: fresh, creative, and super tasty. The menu seems to change daily or very frequently. Beyond that, the staff are the sweetest and most welcoming, and they really know their menu. I wish I could take Granny Smith home with us! Hey! That’s a good idea: they should create and sell a beautiful cookbook! We went to Granny Smith on a cold day, and they had cozy blankets to put on our laps. We also went there on super hot days, and their shaded outdoor seating was very comfortable. I can’t recommend Granny Smith highly enough.

Really nice vegan restaurant. They sort of serve menu's and not directly a la carte but that didn't bother my friends and I. The food was delicious 😋🤤 and although I'm not vegan I really enjoyed the flavors and the service was great 👍🏼

Same ownership as the excellent Dip around the corner and the same excellent quality of food and service (ironically we saw our server from the night before at our lunch so we made the connection). This place is busy for a reason and the reason is the great and eclectic food choices on offer. Fresh and filling 👍🏻👍🏻 😋 so don’t hesitate to dine here.

Very nice restaurant close to the bus stop. Easy to find.
One benefit that they open early morning.
Space not to big but very convenient with electric plug and the wifi connection was perfect.
The staff are very nice and charming ☺️
The food was good and delicious.
One choice for a meal in Annecy 🧡

Absolutely delicious. Healthy and wonderful options.

The chai latte was perfect.

So amazing vegan food. We got the tarte vegetarian and the vegan cheese tasted exactly like regular cheese. Even though expensive, everything tasted so amazing and was presented so beautifully. Great job!

We've got their vegan menu. Everything was very delicious. We are glad to have found such good vegan plates.

We wandered into La Cabane hoping for a break from the endless cheese parade that France has thus offered—and miracles do exist! The service was so wonderful we half-expected them to tuck us in for a nap afterwards. The food? Solid. Duck and carrots three ways, because apparently one way of carrots just isn’t dramatic enough.
Our stomachs appreciated the cheese vacation, though I swear the fondue at the next table was silently judging us. Highly recommend if you need proof that French cuisine can survive without smothering everything in fromage.
Recommend would go again.
Anamaria Morega★★★★★
We enjoyed the food here, especially the octopus and the tartiflette. The staff was friendly and the place has a good vibe.
Shelley Hartman★★★★★
During the chiller nights, it was terrific to find a spot inside LA Cabane. The cozy table by the front window was perfect. Having Vegan options on the menue was a welcoming addition to our heavy diet while on vacation. The quinoa, red beans, pepers, purple cabbage, etc bowl was fantastic. Very filling! I'd wanted the Buddha Bowl, since I was desiring something warm. Our terrific waitress asked the chef to make an exception for me unprompted. I was grateful. I ordered the sweet potato fries on the side! Dessert was tasty too! I disnt know there was a whole cozy room upstairs too, till I went up and used the water closet. The wood branches and log slices on the walls were a wonderful decor choice that made the whole experience that much better!

Fantastic find in Annecy, close to our Airbnb. It was raining heavy so we decided to find a restaurant close to our apartment and chose Dip Honest Food Annecy, excellent food.
We ordered a few plates to share. We ordered 2 pita which were amazingly fresh, a Falalfal Pink Houmous, Chichpea Salad and the Plant Based Kefta.
Wow, we loved all the sauces and the flavors, what a surprise. Thr service is excellent offering advise in English to help us decide.
Stanley Young★★★★★
One of the few restaurants serving food through the afternoon. Food and servoce was great. I had the Turkish eggs and chicken pita. They paired well together and I probably didn’t really need the extra pita I ordered to go with the eggs.

This was delicious and affordable. 9€ for an amazing breakfast bowl. They also cater to travellers and allow you to bring your bags in if you’re waiting to go to the station which isn’t far away.

This place is so good that we ended up visiting twice during our stay. Everything here is perfect. The ambience, the food, and the staff. The desserts, the brunch menu, the drinks all were so delicious. I highly recommend this place.

I was a bit underwhelmed from my granola bowl but the other options seem more promising so you should try these. They looked good, but I can just base my opinion on what I tried. Nothing too special special, but definitely a place to try out again!

Bally Mahay★☆☆☆☆
At first glance the place looked great, but when i eventually managed to sit down having ordered a veggie burger and sweet potato fries, i was left with nothing but disappointment. The bun was so hard and rubbery i couldn’t cut through it and eventually gave up and only ate the veggie filing which was minimal and the sweet potato fries were clearly from an over cooked stalk batch which were not worth eating.

This restaurant came highly recommended and they exceeded all expectations! The service and food was incredible and was a great way to end a fabulous 2 week vacation in Europe

A lovely gem in Annecy-le-vieux! Excellent food, including a nice variety for vegetarians, vegans, and meat eaters alike. Tasty, beautifully prepared dishes and attentive service. Highly recommend!
Ian John★★★☆☆
On arrival at the booked time of 13:30h, the welcome was perfunctory: polite, but lacking in any warmth. I tried to order the menu du jour and was informed that only the veggie burger was still available. I would have preferred to have had the risotto, but was happy to try the burger. So, I asked for the burger but without the burger bun, because I am gluten intolerant. I was told in no uncertain terms that that was impossible. On asking why, I was told that serving a burger without the bun would distress the chef! Utterly ridiculous!! Exceptionally pretentious!
I ended-up having just an à la carte main course (for same price as the three-course menu du jour) and then going to a lovely salon de thé in Menthon St Bernard for coffee and cake. Amazingly, the salon de thé was quite capable of adjusting what it serves to meet its clients’ requirements (bravo!).
I will not be visiting Bistrot Green again.
PS Watch out for broken glass on the ground, because the staff don’t seem to feel that it is necessary to tidy up when a client accidentally knocks their glass off their table and it shatters on the ground - which is what happened at the table next to ours! I was surprised that no client cut their foot as they walked over the broken pieces. Not a good approach to client safety.

Cozy little brunch place with mostly vegetarian options. Each day they have a different brunch combo which includes a savoury dish and a sweet one, also a hot drink and a little juice. I got the veggeterian option, it was delicious and very fulfilling. The one downside i found was the price: 28€ + 2€ if you want to add milk in your coffee, a bit overpriced in my opinion

Great spot for veggie and vegan eats. The pancakes were incredible, as were the cookies (both vegan)! Really relaxed vibe too - would recommend.

The place is very warm and cute, as perfect for a romantic lunch as for a brunch with friends. You can even come alone, you'll still feel home and that you belong.
The food is delicious and can adapt to any diet. You can taste it's fresh and made with love !
The cookies are to die for, it's amazing we can come to get some in take-away.

Really excellent experience all round here. I don't eat gluten or diary, so we called ahead, and Charlotte and her team prepared a delicious and healthy gluten and diary free brunch menu for me, with both savoury and sweet options. Good vegan options are available. Friendly and helpful staff.

Absolutely one of the best vegan lunches I have had in Annecy. The menu was varied and extensive. Tasty, filling, and artistic. I could not *believe* how “real” the vegan pain au chocolat was: crispy dough with soft inside. I tried the vegan bacon bc others raved about it in the reviews: it was perfect. The staff were attentive and friendly. Truly a lovely experience.
Cristina Gri★★★★★
Such a lovely little café. Tucked away from the road in a sunny square, it's the perfect place to sit back, enjoy a coffee and do a bit of people watching.
As vegans, we were so happy to find somewhere that was willing to make vegan croissants for us on the spot – not always easy to find! The fresh orange juice was delicious and the oat cappuccino was one of the best we've had on our trip.
The service was friendly, welcoming and professional, and they even brought water for our dog straight away without us having to ask.
A real little gem and such a cosy, caring place. We'd happily come back.
Emma McCown★★★★★
The perfect breakfast spot in Annecy! We stopped by here before our lake boat tour, and we were taken aback by how cozy and beautiful the cafe is. It is clear the owners (who were very kind and even recommended a great bike rental shop to us) put in ample love and thought into it. The food was delicious and very large portions. Try the fresh juice! We’d definitely recommend this spot.
elisabeth bureau★★★★☆
I had their vegan brunch with scrumbled tofu (actually more like a plain Fried tofu), bacon and mushrooms. It was pretty good but the tofu was quite bland and not their old Fried version they used to have with turmeric! Bacon and mushrooms were tasty, I was just missing some avo or sort of dips to go with the bread! And it there was a lot of oil!
Their pistachio croissant was really nice and not sweet which I prefer. Iced coffee is the best one I've had so far in Annecy, fresh juice was good too. The girl staff was a bit defensive and annoyed when I pointed out this was not a scrambled tofu but fried so I was a bit disappointed she just asked me but do you like it which wasn't the point and she was quite defective about it. On the other side the male waiter (tan and brown hair) was really friendly and open to discussion and constructive which was nice. He told me they opened 10 month ago so I think they are still in learning process with stuff which is understandable
They have a terrace which is in the shade in the afternoon as well as many indoor seats. Overall I had a great experience and would come back . The whole thing costed 28.5€
Chelsea Mitchell★★★★★
went to this place as somewhere that actually has vegan options, which can be a struggle in france sometimes😅 (coming from someone who lived in france for 3 years) and i cannot express how good it was.
i asked if i could do a scrambled tofu on toast off menu and they said yes but there was a slight miscommunication, but im actually glad that happened because the tofu i had was INCREDIBLE, i also had the best matcha i’ve ever had, im still thinking of it now🤣
the cafe is super cute inside and the staff were really friendly! food wasn’t super quick so isn’t somewhere you could come for a very quick 15 minute break necessarily but i would 100% recommend!

This place is an absolute gem and amazing for vegetarians! We ordered two savoury dishes each, and it was more than enough. The potato dish and Turkish eggs were especially outstanding. The waterside tables offered a beautiful, idyllic view along the canal, making for a wonderfully relaxing atmosphere. To top it all off, the staff were warm, welcoming, and genuinely friendly.
Highly recommend a visit!!!

Our favorite brunch in the French Alps! Our meal was lovely - we had the Breaky Bun and the poached eggs with avocado, gratin potatoes and Chipotle sauce. The kids meal was just 13 euro and came with 2 beverages and 2 courses. Our daughter ate every bite! Kind service and beautiful views of the canal and the Palais de l'isle. Highly recommend!

This extremely well-located brunch place offers stunning outdoor seating and a really relaxing atmosphere. The menu is rather small and focused, but with many creative and delicious options. The dishes have very unique flavours and are perfectly balanced.

Excellent discovery menu, well-balanced with variety. Everything was homemade and we definitely tasted that. We absolutely loved the baba ganoush as well as the tuna ceviche but in fact all dishes were very good. Price-quality is perfect and fair. We liked the atmosphere and we were lucky that it was calm. We will come back to try another discovery menu, they change it every season.

We tried the discovery menu and everything was super fresh and tasty, we felt the ingredients were carefully selected with care and great taste. The staff was super nice and helpful as well. There’s a great variety of drinks. We felt the prices were a little bit high but it was worth it overall. Highly recommend!

Cozy environment. Good food. The waiter was nice although seemed to be in a constant rush. They also told us we could sit in two very specific seats, so we assumed it was all booked out. The restaurant ended up being nowhere near full the whole time. They were trying out a new dessert menu and especially one was quite bad. The main courses were delicious though. Overall would recommend, but try to get a good seat as the one towards the back is in a really awkward space.

One time and never again. Where should I start? When you write VEGAN in the menu card it should be vegan. I wanted to order the vegan pancakes créatif if you read the card it's possible to have them vegan. I asked the waitress is it really possible she said yes of course and so I asked her if she can tell me out of what the Chantilly is oh I don't know but it's vegan - something was wrong I didn't had a good feeling so I ask her to go to ask in the kitchen and SUPRISE not vegan!!!!!! As a waitress you should know what you serve and if you aren't sure say it and ask the kitchen. I ordered the normal pancakes vegan almost 8 euro for to pancakes a bit Marmelade and 4 fruits OVERPRICED - but the highlight was that the waitress forgot the food of my husband. We watched her writing it down but she forgot to book it? How is this possible I worked years in service and never forgot to book two foods for a table for two people. She served the pancakes and still didn't realised she forgot it - how??? After ten minutes we ask and the chef to care of it - the waitress never came back to the table and ignored as the rest of the lunch. I was happy to find a spot to eat vegan BUT when a restaurant don't take care to train the staff in a good way - not a place I want to come again and ever vegan or person with allergie should be careful.
Thx for the response I add you a picture and as you can see the pancake creatife Is vegan possible - but than it's interesting that's the same price for the vegan without the Chantilly which isn't vegan so as a vegan you pay the same and get less. I worked years in service and from the first day on you should know the card or if you don't know it say it and ask in the kitchen.
Simona Dumăscu★★★★☆
Really good food, the combination are quite creative but work very well. unfortunately waiting takes so long. They open at 9:30 but food is available after 10:30-11, therefore not a good place for breakfast. Friendly and mindful staff.

A fair amount of vegan options to choose from which was great! My husband had the vegan tartine and I had the vegan chocolate pancakes. Mine came up a bit later as non-vegan chocolate was put on my pancakes initially, but the waiter quickly noticed and rectified it. It meant I started eating just as my husband had finished his meal, but we had a nice time nonetheless!
Poonam Nebhnani★★★★☆
Nice brunch place. Enough quantity and vegan friendly. The service was good albeit a bit slow. We ordered the scrambled eggs with toast and the scrambled tofu tartine. The food was good and not expensive for the quantity and what it was. All the desserts looked very pretty, and we had the babka which was also vegan and quite nice and not dry at all.

Turkish eggs, scrambled eggs in a bun and Burrata with truflfle - all tasted amazing!
Really kind staff, lovely surroundings at the tables out on the square 🙂

Minimal menu, organic and fresh - the savoury breakfast tartines pulled us back several mornings in a row. Cute location near the church and canal - pedestrian-only, so you can sip your latte while the kids watch the ducks or chase birds. Chill, slightly tucked-away vibe - toddler-friendly without losing the calm. Service is good. Expect some wait when busy but worth the wait. I liked the recipe books inside the cafe as well as the Middle East photography book.

Very small place but absolutely lovely with nice and friendly staff. As the place also the menu is small but it’s amazing. It’s absolutely worth waiting some minutes for a the fresh and delicious meals. This team has focused on a few dishes but those are perfect.

The coffee was excellent and the breakfast was delicious! We stopped in with our daughter and managed just fine, though it’s worth noting this is a cozy, intimate space without high chairs. It seems perfectly suited for couples, small groups, or solo diners looking for a lovely breakfast spot.

If I would pick just one place to try for breakfast/brunch in Anncey it would be Baïda mon amour for sure.
Great plates all the way from the presentation to the taste everything is perfect.
The location is very calm and beautiful as well even though it's located in the middle of the old town.
I suggest trying their breakfast bun as well as the chocolate brioche (ask them to toast it on both sides if possible), and don't hesitate to try out the other dishes as all ingredients are of high quality.
Also they have very good cookies, so if u r there for multiple days grab a cookie and a drink and go set on the small amphitheater in front of the restaurant.
Tips for Enjoying Vegetarian Dining in Annecy
Navigating a French Alpine menu as a vegetarian can feel a little intimidating if you don’t know what to look for, but a few insider strategies will dramatically improve your experience. While Annecy is more progressive than many French cities, understanding local dining customs and menu language will help you uncover hidden gems and avoid common pitfalls. The following tips are designed to help you eat well, save money, and discover the most authentic plant-based flavors the region has to offer.
-
Look for “Légumes du Moment” on menus. Many contemporary Annecy restaurants feature a seasonal vegetable dish that changes weekly. These are often the most creative and carefully crafted plates in the kitchen, even if they aren’t labeled strictly “vegetarian.” Always ask your server what the current vegetable special is.
-
Don’t skip the cheese course. Vegetarian doesn’t mean vegan, and Annecy’s proximity to Alpine dairies makes it one of the best places in France to explore artisanal cheese. A plate of local Tomme, Reblochon, or a fresh chèvre with walnut bread and honey is a deeply satisfying, protein-rich meal that honors the region’s heritage.
-
Reserve ahead, especially in summer. Annecy is a hugely popular tourist destination from June through September, and the best vegetarian-friendly restaurants fill up quickly. A quick phone call or online booking ensures you won’t be left wandering the old town hungry at 8 p.m.
-
Learn a few key French phrases. While many servers in central Annecy speak English, knowing how to say “Je suis végétarien(ne)” or “Est-ce que ce plat contient de la viande ou du poisson?” shows respect and often leads to more helpful menu guidance. It also opens the door to off-menu vegetarian options.
-
Embrace the “formule” at lunchtime. Most restaurants offer a fixed-price lunch menu that includes a starter and main or main and dessert. These formulas are significantly cheaper than à la carte dining and often feature a vegetarian option that isn’t available at dinner. It’s the smartest way to experience higher-end kitchens on a budget.
Annecy’s vegetarian scene proves that you don’t have to sacrifice regional character to eat plant-based in the French Alps. The city’s best kitchens are blending tradition with innovation, creating dishes that feel both comforting and exciting. Whether you’re savoring a truffle-infused risotto by the lake or enjoying a quiet bowl of seasonal soup in a hidden courtyard, the experience is uniquely Annecy.
As you plan your visit, let your curiosity guide you beyond the main tourist thoroughfares. Some of the most memorable vegetarian meals in Annecy happen in small, unassuming spots where the chef shops at the local market each morning. Bon appétit—and enjoy discovering the greener side of this Alpine gem.
