15 Best Cafes in Annecy

Nestled along the shores of a crystalline alpine lake and framed by the jagged peaks of the French Alps, Annecy is often called the "Venice of the Alps." While the town is famous for its winding canals, pastel-colored houses, and the imposing Palais de l’Isle, its true heartbeat often lies behind the steamed windows of its local cafés. For residents and travelers alike, these establishments serve as living rooms away from home, where the ritual of a morning espresso or a leisurely afternoon treat is taken seriously.

The café culture in Annecy is a unique blend of Savoyard warmth and French sophistication. Unlike the fast-paced coffee chains found in larger metropolises, the venues here encourage you to slow down, watch the world go by, and savor the moment. Whether you are seeking a quiet corner to work remotely, a sun-drenched terrace for people-watching, or a cozy hideaway to escape the winter chill, the town offers a diverse array of atmospheres to suit every mood.

Navigating the cobblestone lanes of the Vieille Ville (Old Town) can be overwhelming, with a tempting bistro or patisserie on nearly every corner. To truly experience the best of the local scene, one must look beyond the tourist traps and find the spots where the baristas know the regulars by name and the pastries are baked fresh each morning. It is in these authentic spaces that you will find the true flavor of the region.

As a visitor, understanding the local coffee etiquette can greatly enhance your experience. In France, coffee is typically served as a short, intense espresso unless specified otherwise. If you prefer milk, asking for a "café crème" or a "cappuccino" is standard, though locals usually reserve milky drinks for the morning hours. Pairing your beverage with a local pastry, such as a fresh croissant or a slice of blueberry tart, is not just recommended—it is practically a cultural obligation.

This guide has been curated to highlight the diverse tapestry of coffee houses, tea rooms, and patisseries that define the Annecy experience. From historic institutions that have served generations of Annéciens to modern specialty roasters pushing the boundaries of bean sourcing, there is a perfect spot for every palate. We have considered not only the quality of the beverages but also the ambiance, location, and the quality of the accompanying food menus.

Whether you are an early riser looking for a breakfast spot before hiking the Semnoz, or a romantic soul searching for a dimly lit corner for a hot chocolate, this list will point you in the right direction. Below, you will find the definitive list of the 15 best cafés in Annecy, carefully selected to ensure you drink well and feel like a local while doing so.

What a gem 💎 this place is! Amazing coffee and delicious breakfast, owned by a lovely couple with great taste in music. The lady makes very tasty desserts and also the pottery and their mugs are beautiful. Go early as there are only a few tables inside and a couple outside. I loved it and I hope to return and see them again soon.
Amber Morahan★★★★★
Well this place is a gem! The staff incredible! The pottery is such a lovely touch to their very tasty coffee and breakie. Very good find and happy we were able to enjoy.

Went to Cafe Bunna twice during our stay in Annecy and we always had a great time at their place. Their drinks were amazing, especially their coffee. We also tried their carrot cake and it was delicious! This spot is very cozy, the owners were very lovely and also seems very passionate about their craft! Would totally come back the next time we visit Annecy 😊

Cute hidden cafe with very friendly service. Coffee was excellent. There are few breakfast options and also tasty treats. The croque monsieur was good but not very rich in taste. The pastries were fresh and a good add on to the coffee.
Hailey Im★★★★★
Best coffee in Annecy! The staff are incredibly warm and welcoming, and the place has a great vibe. The restroom was spotless, and they offer so many great options to choose from. Highly recommend!
Kat Brookes★★★★★
The best coffee so far in our trip to Annecy, a selection of coffees from Dak, I selected the Milky Cake as I have had it before and it was brewed to perfection. I liked the touch of serving it in a larger cup so it doesn’t spill out the lid and has a chance to cool down.
Akash★★★★★
Delicious plain and savory croissants. Coffee’s strong and tasty too! Wonderful service.
Ada R★★★★★
One of the coziest places I’ve ever been, and Maybe the best late I have ever had. The croissant was also delicios! Everything from the kind staff, warm vibe and small decoration detalies made us to stay longer, in a cold and windy day.

Dog friendly!! Everything was perfect! The food was excellent, the staff were extremely friendly and the service was great. We had a really good time and enjoyed every dish. I highly recommend this restaurant and would definitely come back! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Fantastic brunch! So many great options for sweet and savory dishes, all with a personal twist! The poached eggs are perfect and the pancakes were so fresh. I especially loved their drink menu, including a Lavender Latte - really nice! A wonderful place for a decadent, yet casual brunch, with excellent service and a relaxed atmosphere! Highly recommend🙌
John Lim★★★★★
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ The food and coffee here are super good, fresh, well-prepared, and clearly made with care. Everything we tried was delicious and beautifully balanced. What really made the experience special was the staff. They were incredibly friendly and kind, and even offered to make half portions for us so we could try more items from the menu. That level of thoughtfulness is rare and truly appreciated. Great food, excellent coffee, and genuinely warm service. We loved it and would absolutely come back. If you are in Annecy, this place is a must-visit for breakfast or brunch.
Mark Needham★★★★★
We were here a 8.45am and it was already busy but we were able to sit outside which was very pleasant during the heatwave. We had our dog with us and although we had already put water down, he was offered some by the waiter. The staff were very pleasant and attentive and the brunch we had was excellent, consisting of summer fruit pancakes, summer french brioche and flat white coffees. Table water was automatically provided without the need to ask. We would thoroughly recommend.
Azadeh Kangarani★★★★★
We had the smashed avocado and Summer Focaccia, and both were so good. The flat white? Yummy. The fresh apple and cucumber juice? Just wonderful!

This is an amazing cafe! We ate breakfast here every day in Annecy. The staff and servers are lovely and the food is delicious. We had some good chats with Ben & the others while we were here. They had good tips for what to do in Annecy too! The aesthetic of the place is also very cute and the food is displayed so nicely. I will definitely come back!

Best Place in Annecy, Stuff so friendly very warm welcoming I even went to take my breakfast two days in raw same food Beacon Egg without Beacon 🙂 so delicious the salad is so lecker as well I love the desert as well don’t go anywhere come here and you will never forget and definitely this is my breakfast place every time I am here in Annecy 🙂 thank you so much for welcoming us and being so friendly.PS. Try to reserve before you come and if you couldn’t and the place is busy you can book and they will send a message before your time slot by 15 minutes.
Junior Shaw★★★★★
I think I just had my first Michelin star breakfast!! The hash browns was an unexpected highlight and thats saying something after getting a perfect egg and bacon muffin. The dough of the bun and the cheese combining to really scintillate the tongue. The sweet fruit pancake was supernaturally light and fluffy! This place has made me wax lyrical!
aisha S★★★★☆
I ordered cinnamon rolls and v60, as there are limited vegetarian options , would be great to add more vegetarian options like quinoa salad, vegetarian bowls, avocado toast. Service was slower than expected maybe because it was so busy when I went. Overall good place for breakfast/ brunch (specifically if you eat egg)
Do Yunkyung★★★★★
The best breakfast experience in town. We went there as soon as the restaurant opened and we are so glad we did that cuz pretty soon, the place filled up fast. The food was fantastic. You can kinda see them working in the kitchen and I was able to tell they care a lot about what they put on the table. All the ingredients looked fresh. The food was fantastic and the coffee was also very good. We also ordered fresh squeezed juice and was very happy wirh that too.

Great place to catch a break when sightseeing. This is perfect when you are visiting Annecy and have been walking a while already. Would recommend Pint Blonde 🍺 Its refreshing

One of the best places to spend an afternoon in Annecy sipping your coffee or any cold drink with amazing view Very lovely staff
Patrice Ouellet★★★★★
Very cosy spot nested in the old town of Annecy. Gorgeous place to have a morning coffee with a croissant and feel the French atmosphere. Bring a book and sip your coffee for an hour!
Elizabeth Crossley★★★☆☆
This was a great place to sit and people watch. The atmosphere was very nice. We had a coffee and local beer which were both good. The service was slow, however, as the wait staff took a long time, over 20 minutes to take our order. It did arrive quickly once we had ordered though. It was not cheap, though this would be expected given the location.
Spencer Ford★☆☆☆☆
This cafe was recommended to us by a credible local while on our trip abroad. We took the time to stop find it; only to be treated poorly by the staff. Not sure about Annecy; but when you walk up to a bar ANYWHERE else in the world to order a drink, we’re trying to make your life easier and service faster, for everyone. Instead with a scowl, they very rudely TOLD us to find a seat before waiting longer than necessary for a drink. There are plenty of other places to enjoy yourself in an otherwise beautiful city. Do not recommend, should’ve left… Next time be a little more hospitable to the tourists rather than your buddies that walked up to the bar immediately after for your pow wow. Can’t speak for the food, atmosphere fit, service below 1 star.

Charming breakfast and lunch café right by the old town. We had the scrambled egg toast and the veggie toast and the orange juice. Very tasty 😋

It was my first time in Annecy, and I was looking for a gluten-free spot for a full breakfast to fuel up before walking the Christmas markets. Not only did I find delicious food, but the staff at Mariette were warm and welcoming. No issues communicating in English at all—I even returned the next day to try more of the menu.

The pancakes were quite dry. Also, despite being the first customers there (with no one else in the café), our food was served on chipped plates, which was disappointing.
Desislava Kovacheva★★☆☆☆
We didn't have a great time in this coffee. I ordered "Pancakes bacon," which were dry because the pancakes were so fat (3-4 cm). My friend ordered Dutch breakfast for like 18-20 euros, which was a small portion and tasteless. Besides the meals, the staff wasn't friendly and we needed to ask them for some basic stuff like spices - sugar for the coffees, salt to make the meals with some taste, spoons to stir the coffees. It's strange for me to ask for such things.
Elodie J.★★★★★
What a delightful place, the staff was super welcoming and willing to advise. I ended there randomly but what a wonderful surprise. The food was original and delicious. Officially one of the most original and delicious brunch I have tried so far
Andreea Tudor★★★★★
Really really nice place to eat with good food and friendly staff. They are flexible in accomodating vegan needs. I definitely enjoyed the breakfast that I had with them.

Took a quick coffee break at So Kaffe. The staff was incredibly courteous and kind. Service was super quick. Ambience was super cute too. Would recommend!

Amazing place! Their Coworking setup with unlimited drinks is a great idea, and works out to be cheaper than traditional places Good tables to work from, AC keeps the place cool on hot days, and there’s great WiFi too. The baristas are fantastic, always friendly and it’s clear they really care about the cafe. 10/10, highly recommended
Andrea Solomun★★★★★
Such a cozy gem! 🤩 The coffee here is excellent—smooth, rich, and clearly made with love. The staff is genuinely kind and welcoming, and the atmosphere makes you feel right at home. Today there’s even a charming little vintage market happening, which adds to the creative, laid-back vibe. Perfect spot to work, unwind, or just enjoy a slow coffee moment. I’ll definitely be back! ✌🏼✨️🤍
Phuc Ng★★★★★
During a week in Lyon & Annecy, personally this is the best specialty coffee shop i tried. They use the coffee beans from Tanat in Paris (also my favorite). The affogato is exceptional, i recommend pairing with the peanuts (extra 0.5€), flat white is also smooth, after that we order 1 more espresso tonic, really like it. 2 baristas are very friendly, keep smiling and ask us how we feel about the drinks. Highly recommend 💯
Saher R★★★★★
Great Place to do some work, and to have a GREAT Coffee. The cake was good ( they have a variety of options to choose from), and the Cappuccino was great (I added an extra shot) The Guy works there were so friendly and helpful. He speaks English wich us always a plus 👍🏽 Cozy atmosphere. Love it!
Todd (Timo) Copley★★☆☆☆
Didn't try any food but I didn't think the coffee was particularly good. They charged 16 euros for the time I was there which was just under 3 hours I think. During the entire time I was subjected to horrible hip hop crap music when I was trying to work. Perhaps if I was in a dance club high on cocaine this would have worked but not for intense focused working. It's basically a coffee shop trying to make extra bucks. Go to Starbucks in Courir mall and sit all day for free with decent coffee.

Excellent latte w/ oat milk. Great service, very nice. They didn't burn the milk (as it often happens in other places) and the texture was very smooth. Bonus: I asked in French, barista responded in French (even though my accent is not great). I appreciated this greatly. Edit: as I kept coming back over a few days, they remembered my order and were very friendly. They also invited me to watch the roasting process, which was fun. If you have breakfast / brunch somewhere else, totally worth taking a short stroll to Adrenaline and having your coffee there - massive quality difference.
Alma V.★★★★★
Amazing Coffee! I tried their espresso, Americano, Capuccino, Latte, they were all great. They have this beautiful blend with Guatemalan coffee beans you have to try! Service was great, loved it.
Marieta Yancheva★★★★★
Great coffee, a cozy atmosphere, and a barista truly focused on his craft ☕✨ You can always tell when someone puts heart into what they do-the latte art, the taste, everything was just perfect. Moments like this make coffee breaks even better.
Lucie Chlubnová★★★★★
We loved it here! The coffee was so good and we could even choose the flavour of our espresso. The staff was very nice and friendly (they even showed us the backeround of roasting). Despite the quality of the coffee, the prices aren’t overpriced. I definitely recommend it!
Mr Reviewer★★★★★
One of the best coffees I have had. I should know as this is my favourite thing to do haha. Had to buy some of the beans to take back to the UK for my coffee machine at home. If you love coffee this is the place to visit in Annecy.

Really great independent cafe. Lovely staff. Delicious tea, coffee and carrot cake. Lots of care and personal touches. Loved the bathroom. Outdoor and indoor seating a bit away from the tourist hub which we found refreshing! Do visit!
Clare Holland★★★★★
Nice spot for a quick pitstop from all the walking around. Lovely coffee and very friendly “sisterly” service. Went several times!
Claire Guerne★☆☆☆☆
Very disappointing experience. We came here because of the 4.8 rating, but unfortunately, we’ll never come back. The food was tasteless, the choice was limited, and the drinks weren’t good either. In the end, it was an overpriced experience, especially considering that we left still feeling hungry.

Excellent service. The husband-and-wife team provided a warm and welcoming dining experience. The food was excellent, the dessert was delicious, and the Poignée de Syrah wine paired nicely with the meal. We had the Poulet Voyageur and Bol des Alpages, followed by a wonderful apple pastry-style dessert with whipped cream. Highly recommend if you’re looking for a home-cooked style meal away from the typical tourist spots.
ayusta sawitri★★★★★
A heartwarming spring memory in Annecy: Exceptional hot chocolate in Annecy! During an early spring day trip from Geneva to Annecy, my daughter and I stumbled upon Le Comptoir des Loges while strolling through in the beautiful Old Town. We sat on the cozy outdoor terrace, it was quite chilly, the staff thoughtfully provided us with warm blankets. My daughter ordered a rich, thick hot chocolate with extra whipped cream, while I went for a lighter version-both were absolutely delicious and unforgettable. To top it off, the owner was incredibly friendly and took the time to chat with us. If you are looking for the perfect spot to warm up, enjoy amazing hot chocolate and experience genuine hospitality in Annecy, this is it!
Halyna Kozlenko★★★★★
The best café in Annecy. It is run by an husband and wife. It is all about tasty home made French dishes. My favorite dish was a duck with mushroom sauce. Will continue to come back there ❤️ Do not miss it. It is just in the center of the old town.
G travels★★★★★
Such a lovely and delicious meal! We visited Annecy on a busy Sunday and found a spot at this charming restaurant in the afternoon. The food was fresh and delicious, and beautifully presented. We each got a salad - the warm potato and sausage salad and one with bacon and goat cheese medallions on bread slices. We each found our food tasty and filling. We didn't really save room for dessert but we ordered it anyway! (We may have eaten a little too much of the bread brought before our meal!) Since we are chocolate lovers, we ordered hot chocolate and a warm chocolate dessert. We were not disappointed. We were served by the chef's husband who chatted with us, and made our experience even more memorable. This is also a great spot for people watching. We will absolutely come back again if we make it back to Annecy. Highly recommend for great food, service, and atomosphere.
Greg Clark★★★★★
Honestly one of the best meals we had in Annecy. Peter served us and made our evening with his fun manner, Sylvie cooked us epic food! Definitely worth trying if you are in Annecy old town 👍🏻 (we ended up eating there twice it was so good)!

The place is nice and cozy. We ordered two hot chocolates, but they were super liquid. They seemed more like hot milk with cocoa, and completely missed the rich thickness you would expect from a proper hot chocolate

Turkish eggs, scrambled eggs in a bun and Burrata with truflfle - all tasted amazing! Really kind staff, lovely surroundings at the tables out on the square 🙂
Jahrita Ungell★★★★★
Minimal menu, organic and fresh - the savoury breakfast tartines pulled us back several mornings in a row. Cute location near the church and canal - pedestrian-only, so you can sip your latte while the kids watch the ducks or chase birds. Chill, slightly tucked-away vibe - toddler-friendly without losing the calm. Service is good. Expect some wait when busy but worth the wait. I liked the recipe books inside the cafe as well as the Middle East photography book.
Oliver Schaefer★★★★★
Very small place but absolutely lovely with nice and friendly staff. As the place also the menu is small but it’s amazing. It’s absolutely worth waiting some minutes for a the fresh and delicious meals. This team has focused on a few dishes but those are perfect. And not only the food, also the beverages are perfect with a really good cappuccino or nice home made lemonade.

The coffee was excellent and the breakfast was delicious! We stopped in with our daughter and managed just fine, though it’s worth noting this is a cozy, intimate space without high chairs. It seems perfectly suited for couples, small groups, or solo diners looking for a lovely breakfast spot.

If I would pick just one place to try for breakfast/brunch in Anncey it would be Baïda mon amour for sure. Great plates all the way from the presentation to the taste everything is perfect. The location is very calm and beautiful as well even though it's located in the middle of the old town. I suggest trying their breakfast bun as well as the chocolate brioche (ask them to toast it on both sides if possible), and don't hesitate to try out the other dishes as all ingredients are of high quality. Also they have very good cookies, so if u r there for multiple days grab a cookie and a drink and go set on the small amphitheater in front of the restaurant.

Tips for Enjoying the Café Scene in Annecy

To make the most of your coffee journey in this Alpine town, it helps to understand a few local nuances that can elevate your experience from standard to spectacular. The rhythm of life here is different, and adapting to it will ensure you are welcomed warmly by the staff and enjoy the atmosphere as it was intended.

  1. Respect the Meal Hours: Many cafés in Annecy transition into full-service restaurants during lunch (12:00 PM to 2:00 PM) and dinner. If you only want a coffee or a drink, avoid occupying a table during these peak dining times. Wait until after 2:30 PM for an afternoon coffee, when the lunch rush has cleared and the staff can give you their full attention.
  2. Embrace the Terrasse: The French love their terraces, and Annecy is no exception. Even on cooler days, you will see locals wrapped in blankets or sitting under heat lamps to enjoy the fresh air. For the best people-watching, grab an outdoor seat facing the Thiou Canal or the lake. Note that some establishments charge a slightly higher price for "terrasse" service compared to standing at the bar.
  3. Ask for the "Café du Jour": While espresso is the standard, many specialty shops in Annecy feature a rotating selection of single-origin beans or house blends. Do not be afraid to ask the barista what they are currently roasting or what they recommend. They are usually passionate about their craft and happy to guide you toward a pour-over or a specific espresso profile.
  4. Look Beyond the Old Town: While the Vieille Ville is undeniably charming, some of the best coffee in Annecy is found slightly off the tourist trail. Neighborhoods like the Quartier des Marquisats or the area around the train station often house trendy, minimalist cafés that locals frequent. Venturing a few blocks away can lead to better prices and more authentic interactions.
  5. Carry a Little Cash: While most modern cafés accept credit and debit cards, some of the smaller, family-run patisseries and historic institutions may have a minimum spend for card transactions. Having a few euros in your pocket ensures you can grab a quick espresso at the counter without any friction.

Exploring Annecy through its cafés is more than a culinary activity; it is a window into the local way of life. It is an opportunity to pause, watch the changing light on the lake, and appreciate the slower pace that makes this region so beloved. Whether you are indulging in a decadent hot chocolate after a winter market visit or sipping an iced latte during the summer festival, these spaces offer a moment of respite.

As you wander from the bustling quays to the quiet, arcaded streets, let your senses guide you. Smell the roasting beans, admire the artistry of the pastry chefs, and listen to the clink of porcelain cups. In Annecy, the perfect café is not just a place to consume caffeine; it is a destination that captures the very essence of Alpine joie de vivre.
