Finding a reliable pharmacy in Tours is about more than just filling a prescription. Whether you are a resident navigating the local healthcare system or a traveler who has run out of essential medication, you need a pharmacy that offers clear advice, convenient hours, and a welcoming atmosphere. The French pharmacy experience is renowned for its high standards, but not all locations offer the same level of specialized service or accessibility.
In a city as vibrant and historic as Tours, you have a wide variety of options ranging from large, modern parapharmacies to small, family-run neighborhood dispensaries. The best establishments combine the scientific rigor of French pharmacology with a personal touch, ensuring you feel cared for rather than just processed. Many also offer additional services like orthopedic fittings, veterinary supplies, and homeopathic consultations.
Navigating the streets of the Indre-et-Loire capital can be daunting, especially if you are dealing with an urgent health issue. You might be looking for a pharmacy that is open late, one that stocks a specific brand of French skincare, or simply a location that is wheelchair accessible. Understanding the unique strengths of each establishment can save you valuable time and reduce stress.
This guide aims to simplify that search. We have evaluated the local landscape based on customer service, professional expertise, range of products, and community reputation. By focusing on the practical needs of the user, we hope to provide a resource that remains useful regardless of the season or current health trends.
Whether you need to consult a pharmacist about a minor ailment or are looking for high-end dermo-cosmetics, Tours has a solution for you. The following selection highlights pharmacies that consistently go above and beyond in their duty of care. They represent the best of what the city has to offer in terms of health and wellness.

Though it takes time to wait, it is worthwhile because they give the right direction for your symptoms. They carefully hear what your problems are.
The waiting lines are ends soon, so you can't miss it if you forgot to bring your emergency medicine while you are traveling.

A lot of choices and not expensive

The service is very inconsistent depending on whether you go to the pharmacy side, where the staff are smiling, efficient, and professional; the young woman who helped me last time was wonderful and explained things well. However, the parapharmacy side needs improvement in terms of greeting and competence.

I went to this pharmacy for an emergency medication and the pharmacist was very helpful and kind.

In addition to being a pharmacy, they give good advice. I thank the pharmacists at this pharmacy; I went there today looking for a Boiron product but couldn't remember the name. The pharmacist reminded me, and I said, "Thank you, that's the one!" They are polite, helpful, and give good advice. Thank you very much.

A very helpful and friendly pharmacy. I had forgotten my medication while traveling and was able to easily send the prescription by email. Afterwards, I received quick, professional assistance and excellent advice. Thank you so much for the great service!

Simply the best pharmacy I've ever been to. The pharmacists take the time for each customer, listen attentively, and always look for a solution to any problems.
It's not the closest pharmacy to my home, but it's well worth the trip; the welcome is always excellent.
I'm moving soon and I hope to find a place with such competent and friendly professionals.
Thank you 🙂

Seems to be under new management compared to previous reviews. The pharmacist was very kind and helpful for poor French speakers. We got the medicine we needed.
Isabelle★☆☆☆☆
The worst experience that I have had at a pharmacy in France. Very rude pharmacist who was unhelpful and just quite mean in her manner. I suggest going to Pharmacie du Centre which is close by with very kind personnel, Pharmacie du Progres or the pharmacie on rue D'Entraigues.
Marion George★★★★★
Excellent pharmacy. I receive excellent care from the pharmacists – very important for an elderly person on long-term medication. They are competent, very polite, and patient; they provide sound advice and information about medications and administrative changes. The pharmacy also offers flu vaccinations and vaccinations for other diseases. I highly recommend this pharmacy. Thank you so much.

Emma Rutkowski★★★★★
An excellent experience at this pharmacy! The pharmacist is engaging, highly knowledgeable, and truly pleasant. You can feel his genuine passion for his work, and he provides excellent advice. I was also impressed by the wide selection of herbal products. And what can I say about the place itself: the woodwork is simply magnificent and adds so much charm to the space. A pharmacy where you feel listened to and confident. I highly recommend it! Happy New Year 2026 to all.
Annie Faure★☆☆☆☆
This pharmacist was on duty on December 25th. He chose to maintain the night shift protocol. So the pharmacy was closed, and everything was communicated via the intercom! Only one pharmacist was present... two people outside, 20 on the sidewalk, and a 40-50 minute wait! Outrageous for a healthcare professional. Located next to SOS Médecins (a French emergency medical service), he knew the potential crowds!
Money before health!

The pharmacy is well organized and provides efficient service. However, some customer interactions can feel unnecessarily cold or dismissive. Customers do not expect special treatment or personal warmth, but rather a consistent sense of courtesy, respect, and professionalism. A welcoming environment is built not only through efficiency, but also through the way people are treated during everyday interactions. At times, the atmosphere may leave certain customers feeling overlooked or uncomfortable, which can affect their overall experience.
The pharmacy is well organized and provides efficient service. However, customer ratings are not based solely on the quality of the service provided or the organization of the pharmacy. They also reflect the overall customer experience. People do not expect special treatment or personal affection, but they do expect to be treated with basic courtesy, respect, and consideration. While the pharmacy itself is well managed, the attitude of some staff members can negatively impact the experience of customers. As a result, overall satisfaction may be lower than the quality of the organization alone would suggest

I need the maxilase syrup while traveling tours. Though they sell it 9.90 euro; it helps me to relive the sore throat.

I go to this pharmacy regularly. I once ordered a stocking aid because they didn't have it in stock (which is perfectly normal), and it went very smoothly. I go every month to pick up my medication and I've never had a problem. The pharmacists could check more regularly that customers are familiar with their medication and aren't experiencing any issues with it (I'm not affected, so I'm not deducting a star, but it could be important to do so). Otherwise, everything is fine. They were affected by drug shortages like other pharmacies and didn't have any more information than other pharmacies, so I conclude that the pharmaceutical companies aren't communicating enough.
Sometimes there's a long queue depending on the time of day; in that case, I go somewhere else or come back later. It's well located, next to the Christ Roi tram stop, and there's a small parking lot.

BARBARA BRUNET★☆☆☆☆
A pharmacist decided not to dispense my antibiotics for a serious ear condition (cholesteatoma). According to her, I hadn't come to pick them up early enough! The prescription was from the end of December. What she doesn't know, not being an ENT specialist, is that this condition can sometimes cause inflammation and minor infections that are treated with these very antibiotics. So, you only pick them up when needed, to avoid stockpiling them unnecessarily for months. I will therefore inform my ENT surgeon that a pharmacist felt entitled to question her prescription and my specific needs. I've never seen anything like it at 53!
The owner's response is inappropriate since I clearly gave the pharmacist a reason, yet she REFUSED to give me the medication! Please, call patients liars. Another pharmacy didn't ask any questions: does that mean they deliberately chose to put me in danger? Since YOU are concerned about my safety, I assume others aren't. Yet THEY ensured that, as my specialist wished, I received treatment! Instead of apologizing, you choose to blame the patient: what kind of compassion is so fitting for a profession like yours...
Saaoz (PapiSaaoz)★★★★★
A premium pharmacy; I've been a customer since it opened.
There's a good selection, and most importantly, the pharmacists are very attentive in case of any errors on your prescriptions (incompatibilities, etc.).
All the diagnoses I've had done (without a prescription from my doctor) for various problems have been resolved, with no errors in treatment guidance.
I highly recommend it!

Tips for Choosing the Right Pharmacy in Tours
Selecting a pharmacy is a decision that impacts your daily well-being and peace of mind. While most pharmacies in France adhere to strict national standards, your personal experience will vary based on the staff’s specialization, the store’s inventory, and its location. Here are some essential tips to ensure you make the right choice for your specific needs.
Check the Garde Schedule for Emergencies
French pharmacies rotate "on-call" duties (pharmacie de garde) during nights, Sundays, and public holidays. You cannot simply walk into any closed store; you must look up the current duty roster. This information is usually posted on the doors of all local pharmacies, available on the local government website, or accessible by calling 3237. Knowing this system is crucial if you need medication outside standard business hours.
Inquire About Specialized Services
Not every pharmacy stocks the same products. If you require specific homeopathic remedies, veterinary medications, or specialized orthopedic equipment, call ahead. Some pharmacies in Tours have dedicated sections for maternity and baby care, while others focus heavily on sports nutrition or natural health. Matching the pharmacy’s specialty to your needs ensures you won’t waste a trip.
Utilize the Pharmacist as a Medical Resource
In France, pharmacists are highly trained healthcare professionals who can diagnose minor ailments and recommend over-the-counter treatments. Do not hesitate to describe your symptoms and ask for advice. A good pharmacy will offer a private consultation area where you can discuss sensitive issues without compromising your privacy.
Consider Digital Connectivity
Modern pharmacies often offer online prescription uploads and mobile apps for refills. This can be a lifesaver for those with mobility issues or busy schedules. Check if the pharmacy offers "click and collect" services, which allow you to order your medication online and pick it up without waiting in line.
Evaluate the Parapharmacy Selection
If you are interested in French beauty brands like Avène, La Roche-Posay, or Bioderma, inspect the size of the "parapharmacie" section. Some pharmacies are effectively mini beauty stores with trained staff who can provide skincare consultations. This is particularly useful for tourists looking to stock up on high-quality products at regulated prices.
Finding the right pharmacy is an essential part of settling into life in Tours or ensuring a smooth visit. By taking the time to understand the local system and the strengths of specific locations, you can ensure that your health is in capable hands. A good pharmacist is not just a dispenser of medicine but a partner in your long-term wellness journey.
As the healthcare landscape evolves, the role of the local pharmacy continues to expand. The best establishments in Tours understand this, blending tradition with innovation to serve a diverse population. Whether you are in the historic center or the outskirts of the city, quality care is never too far away.
