I arrived with a dental abscess, sent urgently by my dentist who was on vacation, to get a box of Birodogyl. Unfortunately, an assistant saw me and categorically refused to dispense it. Where was the pharmacist in charge of the pharmacy? In short, I had to make an emergency appointment with my general practitioner. This is how you lose a loyal customer of 23 years.
Pascal Jollivet★☆☆☆☆
Avoid at all costs! The pharmacist (or assistant) is contemptuous of the customer, the patient, and, to top it all off, her colleagues: she refuses to dispense a medication for which I have a prescription (but which was issued less than a month ago, because a box was left behind in Paris) for a long-term treatment, but advises me to see a colleague even though it's 7:20 pm. Irresponsible and inflexible.

The pharmacy is advertised as open this Sunday, but we're suffering after traveling quite a distance, which is unacceptable… plus an answering machine that repeatedly tells you your call will be answered—something's not right here! Perhaps it's time you got organized, Mr. Pharmacist, and showed some respect for your customers.

I will never understand places where people are supposed to work but are staying there without any willing to work. They are there sitting, hiding from clients or telling you to come later in an empty pharmacy. They seem too busy sitting there and discussing about holidays. Go somewhere else where they disserve their clients money !

I have rarely experienced such poor customer service in a pharmacy. The level of incompetence and lack of basic courtesy was honestly indescribable. A pharmacy should be a place where customers feel welcomed and assisted, not made to feel like an inconvenience. I would definitely not recommend this pharmacy based on my experience. It’s in a nice neighbourhood of Biarritz but the ladies working here, completely out of touch with what they are paid to do. Save your coins and take it to another pharmacy that will serve you with good energy!
charlotte le bastard★★★★★
Pharmacy with a wide selection of micronutrients and excellent, personalized advice. It's rare to find a pharmacy these days where they take the time to advise you, even when it's busy. They also have a wide selection of sun care products! As for over-the-counter items, there's a good selection too, and the prices aren't outrageous! It just goes to show that a small business doesn't have to be expensive! Thank you so much for your advice, I'll be back!
Stephanie Foultier★☆☆☆☆
Zero empathy, zero friendliness, one pharmacist (the petite blonde) is EXTREMELY unpleasant. Run away! Run away! Go to the pharmacy at the top of Biarritz in Pétricot instead; they're much more attentive. I've lived in this neighborhood for 25 years, and I'll never set foot in it again.
Barassi Jacques★☆☆☆☆
Hello, I'm from Biarritz. I was in the area that day and stopped at this pharmacy for the first time. The reception was incredibly unpleasant. Avoid it at all costs! Given the circumstances, I didn't even want to give them my prescription, but I still took the time to tell them off, calling them little... Have a good day.

Africa SOLAR★☆☆☆☆
Hello, I'm a customer of this pharmacy, as I live in the neighborhood, and I used to be satisfied. But since my monthly prescription is no longer "as long as your arm," their behavior has completely changed. No longer considered an important customer, I've been humiliated and belittled. I never plan to set foot in there again! That's my opinion. A word to the wise... Hello, I just saw your response to my opinion. First of all, calling me Madame Solar is a serious insult. I am Africa Solar; my first name makes all the difference! Just because you have a customer with the same name, who has mental health issues—and she is, of course, a very good customer, given the substantial prescriptions she carries—doesn't mean you have to confuse us! I was the victim of a misdiagnosis and was prescribed a diagnosis for some trendy, invisible illness, which turned out to be inaccurate. I was simply experiencing post-traumatic symptoms following an accident and its impact on my life. No longer taking those expensive medications, nor other treatments like protein supplements, which were also costly, I realized I was no longer "important," and I stand by that! You had agreed to take my blood pressure weekly, but the last time I went, with my "meager" prescription of only Doliprane and eye drops, I was no longer welcome; I was a nuisance... Okay... I'm more than fed up with suffering the consequences everywhere because someone else in Biarritz has the same name as me, but I thought you saw the difference! Being treated like a mentally ill person and being kept quiet? No way! I've long since moved beyond the "what will people say?" stage, which is why I'm stating my opinion frankly and sharing it with you following your response. There you have it... I've had enough ulcers from staying silent; now I'm speaking out! Best of luck...
Steve Hay★★★★★
Excellent experience! The staff were attentive and caring. I had a long conversation with the pharmacist about my situation, and she reassured me about my health. I highly recommend them!
Didier Despres★★★★★
A new and very friendly team is now running this pharmacy. Excellent service, helpful advice, and a smile to boot! You don't feel like just a number here. I highly recommend it.
Perrine Parini★★★★★
Great pharmacy! A very pleasant, professional, available, and attentive team with good advice... I won't hesitate to go back!
YBD 12★☆☆☆☆
The most expensive self-test I've bought in the region, which is ridiculous for a local pharmacy. Mr. Pharmacist, no, that's not the price set by the government, and the reliability is the same for all self-tests. "Their maximum price is set at €6. As of May 15, 2021, the price of the self-test cannot exceed €5.20." Your selling price is at the high end of the range. But I completely understand that profitability is more important than anything else…

Tips for Visiting a Pharmacy in Biarritz

Navigating the French pharmacy system is straightforward once you understand a few key differences from other countries, particularly regarding operating hours and the role of the pharmacist. Here are some practical tips to ensure you get exactly what you need during your stay or daily life in Biarritz.

1. Look for the Green Cross

In France, pharmacies are not located inside supermarkets or large retail chains as they often are in the UK or US. Instead, look for a distinct green cross sign, usually illuminated, outside a dedicated storefront. If you need medicine, you must go directly to one of these locations, as basic painkillers or cold remedies are rarely sold in regular grocery stores.

2. Understand the "Garde" System (After Hours)

If you need medication late at night, on a Sunday, or during a public holiday, not every pharmacy will be open. French law requires pharmacies to participate in a rotation system called the service de garde. To find the open pharmacy, check the door of any closed pharmacy; they usually post a sign directing you to the nearest "Pharmacie de Garde." You can also find this information on the local police station’s website or by calling 3237.

3. Bring Your European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) or Passport

If you are an EU citizen, carrying your EHIC card will allow you to access medication at the standard French reimbursement rates. For non-EU visitors, it is wise to keep your passport and travel insurance details with you. Even if you do not have a prescription, the pharmacist will need to know your identity and age for certain restricted medications.

4. Consult the Pharmacist for Minor Ailments

Do not hesitate to describe your symptoms directly to the pharmacist. They are medical professionals trained to diagnose minor conditions like conjunctivitis, cystitis, or mild skin infections and can dispense the appropriate treatment on the spot. This can save you a lengthy and expensive visit to a doctor for non-emergency issues.

5. Explore the Dermo-Cosmetics Section

Biarritz is a hub for French pharmacy skincare. Unlike in some countries where these products are locked away, they are usually on open shelves. Ask the staff for recommendations based on your skin type. Brands often found here, such as Avène, La Roche-Posay, and Biarritz-based natural brands, are often sold at better prices than in export markets and can make excellent souvenirs.

6. Be Aware of the Lunchtime Closure

While some city-center pharmacies remain open during lunch, many independent pharmacies in residential areas of Biarritz close between 12:00 PM and 2:00 PM. Plan your visit outside of these hours to avoid a wait, unless you are visiting one of the larger establishments known for continuous service.

The peace of mind that comes with knowing where to find professional medical advice is invaluable when traveling. The pharmacies in Biarritz are well-versed in handling the specific needs of tourists, from treating jellyfish stings and surf injuries to managing travel sickness and allergies.

By choosing a pharmacy that aligns with your location and needs, you can ensure that any health hiccups are resolved quickly and efficiently. Whether you need a specific French medication or simply a high-SPF sunscreen for the Atlantic sun, the local pharmaciens are your best resource for staying healthy in this beautiful coastal city.
