Biarritz has long been synonymous with Atlantic elegance, but the true soul of this Basque coastal town lies in its devotion to wellness. With a climate that shifts from bracing sea breezes to warm sun, the environment naturally invites restoration. Whether you are here for the legendary surf or the refined culture, the local spa scene offers a profound way to reset the nervous system.
The unique geography of the region plays a vital role in the treatments available. Many spas harness the mineral-rich waters of the Atlantic and the thermal springs that bubble up through the Pyrenees. This is not just about luxury; it is about utilizing a tradition of hydrotherapy that dates back to the Belle Époque, when European royalty flocked here for "the cure."
Choosing the right spa in Biarritz depends on the kind of escape you need. Some travelers seek the high-energy social atmosphere of a grand hotel pool, while others desire the clinical precision of a thalassotherapy institute. The best experiences blend the French art of cosmetic science with the laid-back, soulful vibe of the Basque country.
In this guide, we have moved beyond simple aesthetics to evaluate the technical expertise of the therapists, the quality of the product lines used, and the architectural serenity of the spaces. We focus on locations that offer exceptional value, distinct regional character, and a genuine commitment to health rather than just surface-level pampering.
Whether you have spent the morning hiking the coastal path to the Phare de Biarritz or you simply need shelter from a rainy Atlantic afternoon, these sanctuaries provide the perfect counterbalance. From salt-scrub rituals to deep tissue massage, the options are as varied as the ocean itself.
Below is a curated list of the most exceptional addresses in the city. These establishments have been selected for their consistency, hygiene standards, and ability to deliver a transformative experience for locals and visitors alike.

STAY AWAY - We were gifted a 500 euros spa experience before the pandemic...for obvious reasons we could not travel to Biarritz during the pandemic...when we contacted Alaena to ask wheher we could use the gift voucher this spring/summer or get some products in exchange etc, the answer was "No, our spa vouchers are only valid for 6 months. You should have asked us before the expiry date." When the voucher was purchased it was valid for 12 months...except French borders were closed for almost 18 months in total over several lock downs...
Those who are not 100% sure they are able to use this spa vouchers, stay away or you will lose your money!!! Since 2020, we have been facing that situation with so many brands, this is the one and only brand that could not be bothered to be kind and compassionate about the whole situation.

A truly delightful experience, perfect for complete relaxation.
The hammam, accompanied by iced tea, was the perfect way to begin the relaxation.
Then, a one-hour deep tissue massage left me feeling utterly blissful.
A truly relaxing experience, like floating on a cloud.
Thank you again!

Amazing experience at the Spa Impérial at Hôtel du Palais Biarritz. I had the Belharra treatment, an exclusive face-and-body ritual created by Guerlain specifically for the Hôtel du Palais, and it was performed by Axelle — I hope I have her name right. Axelle is a wonderful young professional with such positive energy. She was incredibly attentive, caring, and highly skilled. Both the massage and the entire treatment were exceptional.
I have visited many world-class spas, and I can honestly say that the level of service and professionalism of the team at the Spa Impérial is among the best I have experienced. It was also one of the best spa experiences I have had in terms of value for money✅👌

A pure delight! The welcome was incredibly pleasant, personalized, and warm in a spa that is truly a haven.
I enjoyed a relaxing Imperial massage with Mélanie, a true professional who listens attentively and tailors the massage and treatment to our needs and desires at the time. A rare and precious moment that I will definitely repeat. The entire spa team is very friendly, welcoming, and attentive, creating a relaxing atmosphere. It's a positive development; I'm rediscovering this place with great pleasure.

An incredible experience: it starts at reception with the most delightful hostesses and continues during the hour and a half Belhara treatment. A relaxing moment combining a facial and a body massage. A therapist with magic hands! You can then extend your stay at the pool/hammam (but a tip: have the treatment at the end). In short, an unforgettable afternoon with friends for a more than reasonable price (€170) considering the magical setting. Thank you to the whole team!

I gave it 5 stars because I was excited to do something with my boyfriend, but thinking about it, I'm going to change everything. Bad experience! Very pretty, but the staff were very unpleasant.
After a 10-hour drive, my partner forgot his swimsuit. I usually go to spas near my home, so I told my boyfriend not to worry, that he could buy one there. Well, no, no swimsuits available, and on top of that, someone was incredibly rude to him. We paid for a spa treatment plus a body and facial massage.
• We were able to use the spa… no solution for a 4-star hotel, which is unacceptable, I think…
• No explanations were given when we were led to the changing room, which was more like the restrooms…
• Body and facial massage: our faces were clearly not touched! Neither of us.
• He didn't even get his stomach massaged.
• I think they only touched our scalps for 3 seconds flat! Honestly, I wasn't disappointed because I was with my partner and we finally had some time alone together without the pressure of work. But if you only consider the place itself... Seriously? I hope it was a hidden camera prank!

So here I am, resigned to leaving a Google review, even though that wasn't my initial intention, because I never received a reply to my email!
We came to the spa for an hour, hoping to have a pleasant experience, but that wasn't the case.
We were very well received at the hotel reception, which then took us to the spa. Once downstairs, the welcome was cursory; we were left in a small corridor without any instructions. We were able to change in a multi-purpose room (toilet, changing room, etc.) and found ourselves with our belongings in our hands, without any way to store them. After some insistence, the staff gave us the keys to a tiny, narrow locker to "secure" our things for the hour, as the other three lockers were out of order. Once ready, we entered the aquatic area, which consisted of a simple, outdated pool with partially functioning water jets, a few plastic balls in the water... and that was it! As for the sauna and hammam, it wasn't any better. The sauna didn't have water to refill the steam room.
Furthermore, while we were in the water, on several occasions, a member of the hotel staff, accompanied by about ten other people, came to the pool area to show us around, staring at us for several minutes, so there was absolutely no privacy. All of these things combined were very disappointing, and we strongly advise against paying €29 for an hour in this place.

We stayed at this hotel for three days and it was a wonderful stay. The location is ideal, the breakfast was excellent, and the staff was always available. The hotel spa is very pleasant, with bathrobes, slippers, and towels provided. We will definitely return!

A half-day "Marine Break" that I'd love to repeat soon. The staff is incredibly helpful, altruistic, and proactive. Victoria and Elisabeth were lovely. However, I can't recall the names of the other two therapists. There was a noticeable shortage of male therapists. The changing room attendant was truly delightful and attentive to all my requests. The French art of living is on full display. The only slight drawback would be the upkeep of the changing room doors, and a little refresh would also be in order.

A very enthusiastic review focusing exclusively on the Thalassotherapy center: After a 9-day "body repair" treatment, I can tell the world that the on-site team is absolutely exceptional. Many say they are all very nice, which is true.
I appreciate the excellent interpersonal skills these professionals use to serve the guests. To my knowledge, this is the only Thalassotherapy center that offers treatments with physiotherapy.
Cathy Jardin★★★☆☆
Pleasant location, very effective spa treatments, the mud wrap in the thalassotherapy area is very unpleasant: the room is not heated enough, the mud is icy cold when applied, if you move a little the sheets and plastic covering the body come undone and you get cold, plus the table is uncomfortable...

Visited Le Hammam Biarritz after a long journey from New York City to Paris via Nice, then Paris to Biarritz. When we arrived, we were exhausted and looking to spend some time between our arrival and check in for our residence. The Hammam was PERFECT. The staff is warm, welcoming, and very accommodating. They treated us with kindness and respect as we tried to communicate with them in the very little French we knew. The facilities were clean and fragrant. The Spring Reset service we received made our skin feel so soft and light. At the end, they served us a sweetened mint tea and a cookie. Truly an amazing and relaxing experience. If you are ever in Biarritz, I would HIGHLY recommend you visit here.

A moment suspended in time.
We tried a traditional black soap body scrub, a geranium-infused rhassoul clay body wrap, and unlimited access to the hammock—pure bliss!
The hammam owners gave us a warm welcome. The staff is gentle and attentive, and the atmosphere instantly invites relaxation. The decor transports you to the Orient.
Special mention goes to the quality of the products and the impeccable cleanliness. To top it all off, mint tea and gazelle horn pastries awaited us after our treatments.
Thank you for this wellness escape in Biarritz; we'll definitely be back!

The hotel is in disrepair. We got one of the premium rooms with an ocean view, and it was absolutely atrocious. There were stains on the ceiling, cracks and missing tile, a torn bed frame, cracks in the wood trim, extremely outdated. There was also a weird smell. The main entrance and various parts of the hotel were also in disrepair. We simply had to leave. It was absolutely not what we expected. We left and fortunately found another resort.
Esra Umut Gulerer★☆☆☆☆
This is the one of the worst hotels I have stayed in for the price range. The hotel is totally dilapidated! The website pictures are totally misleading. In reality it looks like absolutely no renovation has been done in the rooms or the hotel in general since it was built in the 1970s. Our bathroom door doesn’t close. The cupboard doors the same. Everything is worn and old. The outside of the building is the same. The balcony doors are rusted. Everything looks and feels as if it will fall apart. The spa is the same. The steam was out of order. The treatment rooms the same. The therapist was excellent though. Unfortunately the service is reluctant and haphazard. It’s as if everyone is just sticking it out to pass the time before the hotel closes for good! A total modern renovation is needed.
ZE TO★★★☆☆
Ok, to be fair, we knew what we will get. The whole complex is simply way overdue for a complete renovation. As a matter of fact, you should rebuild from scratch. Rooms are very dated. All is a bit filthy, rusty, simply in desperate need for an overhaul. But! The setting is simply crazy cool! If you are looking for the best located hotel in Biarritz, nothing beats the Sofitel. Pool is nice, service is excellent. We booked surf lessons, that’s in front of the hotel! Direct beach access; towels are provided. Easy walking distance to the old town. A quick dip and swim in the ocean before breakfast - easy if you stay at the Sofitel. So in summary, it’s a trade-off: location vs. quality of amenities.
Simen Sørbø★☆☆☆☆
When booking a 5 star SOFITEL you do expect something nice. All we can say is: the people working there where nice and location perfect BUT the maintenance and cleanliness of the place is not even worth one star. We would not stay here again and I actually hope getting a message saying my review has been deleted due to renovation.
There were water leaking from a shower into the gym. The outside walls dirty dirty dirty and we had dog/human hair on the balcony.
How the SOFITEL-group can be known having this low standard is surprising.
This if maybe the first time ever I only post bad pictures because it is needed. I would never recommend anyone this hotel in Biarritz. Many better options!
Rob McNally★★☆☆☆
Don't expect a long sleep at this hotel. Housekeeping bang doors from early in the morning. On one of the two nights we were there we were woken up with a knock on the door at 9:40am by housekeeping despite check-out being hours away. The facilities are really poor, the downstairs "spa" is like something from seventy years ago. Outside of the rooms and the lobby, the hotel is really really tired. Obviously we tried to ignore it, but for €324 a night, that's very difficult to do. I would only visit this hotel if there was nothing else available.

Essential Tips for Choosing Your Biarritz Spa Experience
The difference between a good spa day and a truly restorative one often comes down to preparation and timing. Because Biarritz is a seasonal town with a distinct rhythm, understanding the local etiquette and booking patterns will ensure you secure the best possible treatment without unnecessary stress.
Before you book, consider what your body actually needs. If you have been surfing at Grande Plage, your muscles likely require deep tissue work or a detoxifying marine wrap rather than a light relaxation massage. If you are traveling in the high season of July and August, the most sought-after hotel spas fill up days in advance, so securing a reservation before you arrive in town is essential.
Here are a few key considerations to maximize your visit:
- Book around the tides: If you want to use the indoor seawater pools, arriving during high tide often means the water has been freshly circulated. It is a small detail that locals appreciate.
- Ask about the "Cure Marine": Several thalassotherapy centers offer multi-day packages that include medical consultations. If you are staying for a week, this is often more cost-effective than booking single treatments.
- Respect the silence: Basque spas tend to be social in the hammam areas but strictly quiet in the relaxation lounges. Keep your phone in the locker to preserve the atmosphere for everyone.
- Hydrate with local water: The salt air and heat of the saunas dehydrate you quickly. Drink plenty of water before and after, and avoid heavy Basque food immediately prior to a massage.
- Check for "Off-Peak" rates: Many luxury hotel spas offer reduced rates for local residents or for mid-week appointments during the shoulder seasons (April/May and September/October).
Ultimately, the goal of a spa visit in Biarritz is to mirror the rhythm of the ocean—alternating between intense energy and deep calm. By choosing the right environment and preparing your schedule accordingly, you allow the therapeutic traditions of the Basque coast to do their best work.
As you step back out onto the cobblestone streets, you will likely find that the salt on your skin feels a little softer and the pace of the town seems a little slower. That lingering sense of weightlessness is the true souvenir of a Biarritz spa day, a reminder that wellness here is not a trend, but a way of life passed down through generations.
