Dijon may be world-famous for its mustard and medieval architecture, but the capital of Burgundy has quietly cultivated a vibrant dining scene that extends well beyond classic French brasseries. While boeuf bourguignon and coq au vin remain local staples, an increasing number of travelers are discovering that Dijon is also a haven for authentic Italian cuisine. The city’s proximity to the Italian border, combined with a deep French appreciation for quality gastronomy, has resulted in a collection of trattorias and pizzerias that rival those found in Rome or Naples.
Finding a genuinely good Italian restaurant in a French city can sometimes be a challenge, as local palates often influence the final product. However, Dijon breaks that mold by offering everything from wood-fired Neapolitan pizzas to hand-rolled fresh pasta and regional Italian wines. Whether you are visiting the Ducal Palace or stopping over on a wine tour of the Côte d’Or, you do not have to sacrifice your craving for al dente spaghetti or a perfectly charred crust.
The best Italian spots in Dijon range from cozy, family-run holes-in-the-wall to sleek, modern establishments perfect for a date night. Many of these restaurants source their ingredients directly from Italy, ensuring that the tomatoes, olive oil, and cheeses taste as authentic as possible. Others focus on the slow-food movement, blending Burgundian produce with traditional Italian techniques to create something truly unique.
To help you navigate the culinary landscape, we have curated a list based on ingredient quality, atmosphere, service, and consistency. We have skipped the generic tourist traps and focused on the places where locals actually line up for a table on a Friday night. From crispy Roman-style pinsas to rich, truffle-laden risottos, there is a plate for every type of pasta lover in this historic city.
Below, you will find the top addresses that consistently deliver an exceptional Italian dining experience in Dijon. Each entry has been selected for its ability to transport your taste buds to Italy while maintaining the high service standards expected in France. Be sure to book ahead on weekends, as these popular spots fill up quickly with both students and seasoned gourmands.

This lovely cafe-bar is open all day. We had a delicious lasagne with salad, focaccia, a Dijon spritz and wine. There is also a deli counter with meat, cheeses and Italian cookies. The owner is very friendly and efficient. Our new favorite restaurant in Dijon, we will definitely return.

Avoid at all costs. Not a 4.5 rated restaurant! This is a chain restaurant group with about a dozen venues in France. Arrived at 7.30pm for our booking and it wasn't particularly busy. We ordered by 8pm and received our starters but not the bottle of wine we had ordered. After we had finished our starters, we had to ask the Manager where our wine was. She brought a bottle of Rose instead of the white we had ordered. Then brought back another white but not the one listed. Our mains arrived just sfter 9pm. Unfortunately they brought a pizza when we ordered the Penne Della Nonna. Had to wait another 20 minutes! Both the Spaghetti Carbonara and Penne were very bland. Very limited wine list. Not a good experience! The 'Manager' was also on her laptop at the front of the restaurant when the three floor staff were struggling.

American Tourist review:
Starting with the food, it was great! The pizza is very Italian style with unique flavors. We got the Gabriella, which was my favorite and the Mia Nonna. Both had fresh ham. We got the spaghetti and meat balls which were very good. The ground beef from the meatballs had good texture and the sauce was good. The noodles are thicker and more filling. We also ordered the appetizer platter which I recommend as well.
Being a pizza place I did think this restaurant would be more family friendly but our noisy baby was not appreciated. We got a lot of dirty looks from other patrons and some staff. With that, bring a kid who is ready to eat at a restaurant. They do have a small kids menu.
Overall I do recommend this restaurant for a sophisticated authentic Italian pizza experience.

Service super slow. We waited 30 min to place an order and another 30 min to get our pizzas because the priority is the delivery. They have a nice terrasse in the summer and a good indoors ambiance for cold weather. Good pizza. One of a few places open on a Sunday night in Dijon.

A truly authentic Italian restaurant attached to an equally excellent grocery store with the unambiguous name "Porte d'Italie" (Gate of Italy), where you'll find many of the products offered in the restaurant, and more. The menu is limited, with some items changing weekly. The atmosphere is welcoming, and the service is quick. Excellent value for money. There's a terrace during the season. Reservations are highly recommended, as it's a popular spot with regulars.

Priscilla Dubuis★★★☆☆
We had lunch at this Italian restaurant. The space was very well optimized, and we ended up at a table with three other women. There was about the width of a place setting between us, which isn't ideal when you want to have a quiet conversation. Another negative point: no vegetarian options on the menu. There was a starter, but no main course, so it was impossible to order a vegetarian option, and we had to order à la carte. The issue isn't financial, but it's quite surprising given the number of vegetarians today. We often go to Italian restaurants because there are usually several vegetarian choices; this is the exception that proves the rule. We ordered pasta with tomato, basil, and ricotta. It was good but rather basic. As for desserts, almost all of them were sold out, so we didn't order any.
I wouldn't recommend this establishment to vegetarians or to people who want a bit of privacy. The space is well decorated and welcoming, and the young waitress was very friendly.

We had a wonderful dinner here. Tasty pizza, eggs in sauce, the most unique fries and a trio of desserts that were light as air. And the wine from the region was delicious. Huge menu so there is something for everyone. The service was welcoming and attentive. I wish we had stayed longer in Dijon and come back to try the pasta…generous portions. And there’s home made chili sauce! Make a reservation as it is popular with the locals.

I am surprised anyone could give a very bad review. Turned up with my brother (we are English and NOT employees of the restaurant!) and received a great welcome, followed by well-balanced service and fun interaction with several staff. Risotto and ravioli were delicious. The desserts were good and large portions. The restaurant was full and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves, so it was a great atmosphere and a lovely evening sitting outside in the square. If I want Italian food in Dijon I will return to Place d’Italie.

Disappointing experience, service of the staff was good but the food wasn't what we expected. We ordered the Arancini to share but I think these came out of the freezer and were overdone (nearly burned). After that I ordered the Tagliata (medium) which I think the cook made it, then cut the Meat and saw this was far from medium and the threw the slices back in the pan to be killed again, the photo's speak for themselves. My girlfriend ordered the risotto which was tasty she said but too dry.
After that we decided to skip dessert.

Merci merci merci! My wife and I came for a brief visit to Dijon and were looking for somewhere to eat close to our hotel. Fortunately, we were unable to patronise our first choice restaurant (it was booked out) and crossed the road to find Le Marta. We could not fault it – the food, the wine, the service … everything was fabulous. Quentin, especially made our meal special and made us feel special. If you are in Dijon, do yourself a favour.

Le Marta is the perfect place to invite friends and colleagues for a drink , have an intimate dinner with your loved one and to celebrate important occasions..the delectable Italian fusion cuisine and with its chic ambiance Le Marta is warm , cozy and inviting. We had dinner with our friends from Geneva and thoroughly enjoyed the Vitello Tonnato, The octopus Salad in Entrée and The Mushroom Canneloini, The Tuna and The Prawns Linguini were absolutely delicious. Looking forward to visiting again on my next trip

A wonderful discovery at Marta 🍷🇮🇹
We started our aperitif with delicious arancini accompanied by truffle ham—a real treat. Then, four beautifully prepared Milanese veal cutlets, paired with two glasses of Italian red wine.
Special mention to Amine, our waiter, who was incredibly friendly, pleasant, and professional 👌
To finish, an excellent panna cotta with seasonal fruit.
A truly lovely evening in a welcoming establishment that I highly recommend!

Unbelievably good. Ive walked past this spot so many times, and I kept saying to myself that I need to try it out. I should have come in MUCH sooner than I did, I wasted so much time eating elsewhere... it is now easily my number 1 pizza spot in the city. Incredibly friendly staff. The chef, Giovanni, takes the time to check how each table is doing, which is such a nice touch. The wine was excellent. Everything about this place is extra; extra good food, extra good service, extra good atmosphere. Im looking for my next excuse to come back already.

Best Pizza I had in a while. The dough had a great flavour, air pockets just the right size and a perfect leopard branding. They use high quality ingredients like Bressaola and do their own cremes as alternative bases to pomodoro. Service was great and they attended me in English without any issue🙃

Some of the best Neapolitan pizza you can get this side of the Alps.
Albeit a long wait for pickup, which the staff politely and explicitly states before you can order, the pizzas are ready on time, and the staff efficient when you go for collection.

OK, I know everyone has their own taste… BUT this casual spot is an absolute gem! Friendly service, great prices, and the best pizza I’ve had away from home—no contest! First of all, thank you for the warm welcome. I've rarely been received so well in a restaurant. The waitresses are truly lovely.

Well deserved rating, great food
Where? Toison D'Or mall, ground floor
What? Authentic pizza, pasta and more
Why? Great quality and service
We were struggling a bit to find a place to have lunch, but were so lucky. Our French is not great so we got a friendly English speaking server. Quality of the food is really good, they promote the local Italian produce and producers. We had arrabiata pasta, marinara and diavola pizza. Great taste. The fresh juices were nice, as was the decor.
Aleksandr Antonov★☆☆☆☆
Very disappointed with the food. The pastas here are hastily made, and the chicken felt more like can chicken. The desserts are OK but nothing to rave about, and the hot tea amount is super tiny. And given all these, the price is quite regular - not cheap.
I’ve had pastas at the rest stops in France that tasted great, even though it’s a rest stop restaurant that’s supposed to be “fast-food”-like. Expected more from this place.
Maybe my review will help to be a heads up for those thinking to eat here.

Great pizza Sunday night. Good to know they open 7/7. The pizza was delicious, the service was attentive and fast. The owner was there taking care of everything. And it was in a very nice part of Dijon which is the Emile Zola square. Very good! I will be back!
ALEXANDRU RADU★★★★☆
Pizza is good. Pasta was terrible, the worst I ever had. Staff very friendly, location nice and they give some bread and cold water on the house, which is very nice gesture.
Toilets should be cleaned and improved!
Blanca Torres★★☆☆☆
We came here because of the good reviews on Google, which were not deserved, and it was a disappointment!
First of all, the food, which was quite mediocre. The two stars are because the only good thing was my son's burger and fries (luckily). The entrecote I ordered medium-cooked was raw all around the edges. The potatoes that came with it were overheated and oily. The burgundy they served us had a horrible aftertaste (open for too long? glasses not very clean?) obviously we didn't drink it.
Secondly, the atmosphere and the staff. When we got to the terrace a man came out of the restaurant and took us to a separate room, a pitiful atmosphere. But the worst thing was the waiter's presence: black nails and fingers yellow from tobacco, and he smelled of cigarette smoke. I would have gotten up and left if my children hadn't been tired and hungry.
Lastly, it goes without saying that it is not a real Italian restaurant.
I do not recommend it to anyone.

If I could I gave -100. I had tagliatelle carbonara. It was extremely bad. The pasta was cooked too much. The food was cold. The bacon tasted funny. My stomach asked me to stop eating this. I told the garçon but anyway I had to pay full price. From the 2 bites I had I feel still sick. Do not go there please! Never had this type of experience.

Quite sad about the stale dough here
The dough is not leavened well so I had to spit out most of them
The more you chew, the worse you feel
Those toppings are ok but the dough is really tasteless with flaccid texture
It’s not chewy at all
Some surfaces also got rock-like texture….it’s super bad

We have already encountered this while walking in Dijon. A super nice square, with their small restaurant on the corner. A very smooth and pleasant service. We have 2 children who were immediately welcome. Once we were chosen inside, we had to wait 5 minutes. Very very tasty focaccias! Even the salad with burrata was delicious. Very nice, very tasty and affordable!

They serve great focaccia with many different toppings including vegetarian options - really some of the best focaccia I ever had! We went there twice, had contact with different staff and they were all very nice and helpful. Can recommend for just a quick snack or a meal.

The bread on this focaccia was superb!! The delicate toppings helped to balance it off beautifully. Each serve looked big, but because it is so light, one doesn't fill over full.

Lots of flies in the restaurant, the pizza has a strange taste of yeast. At least the white focaccia was vegan.
Tips for Choosing the Best Italian Food in Dijon
Dining out in a foreign city can be hit or miss, especially when you are looking for a specific ethnic cuisine. To ensure you have the best possible meal, there are a few local nuances and practical strategies you should keep in mind. The following tips will help you distinguish an authentic, high-quality Italian kitchen from a mediocre imitation, ensuring your dining experience in Dijon is memorable for all the right reasons.
-
Look for "Pinsa" over "Pizza" for something unique: Many top spots in Dijon now serve pinsa romana. This is an ancient Roman style of flatbread made from a blend of soy, rice, and wheat flours. It is highly digestible, lighter, and crispier than traditional Neapolitan dough, making it a favorite among locals.
-
Prioritize Fresh Pasta: The true test of an Italian kitchen in France is often the pasta. Check the menu or the restaurant’s social media for terms like "pasta fresca" or "fait maison" (homemade). If the tagliatelle or ravioli is made in-house daily, you are almost guaranteed a good meal.
-
Check the Wine List for Italian Varietals: While you are in Burgundy, it is tempting to stick to Pinot Noir. However, a truly dedicated Italian restaurant will offer a robust selection of Italian wines, such as Barolo, Chianti Classico, or Vermentino. A thoughtful Italian wine list demonstrates a commitment to authenticity.
-
Beware of the "French Touch" (or Embrace It): Some Italian restaurants in Dijon adapt their recipes to suit French tastes, which often means slightly richer sauces or different cheese blends. If you are a purist, look for restaurants that explicitly state they import D.O.P. ingredients (like San Marzano tomatoes or Buffalo Mozzarella from Campania).
-
Book for Dinner, Walk-in for Lunch: Dijon is a bustling university town and a business hub. If you plan to dine at a popular Italian spot between 7:30 PM and 9:00 PM, a reservation is essential. If you prefer spontaneity, try visiting for lunch service (usually between 12:00 PM and 2:00 PM), when the atmosphere is quieter and walk-ins are easier to accommodate.
-
Don’t Skip the Antipasti: In Burgundy, portions can be hearty. To truly gauge the skill of the chef, order a simple antipasto plate or a burrata starter. The quality of the olive oil, the freshness of the cheese, and the seasoning of the vegetables will tell you everything you need to know about the kitchen’s standards before your main course arrives.
Whether you are taking a break from the region’s heavy cream sauces or simply celebrating a special occasion, the Italian dining scene in Dijon offers a refreshing and delicious alternative. The marriage of Italian passion with French technical precision often results in dishes that are both comforting and refined. From the cobblestone streets of the historic center to the quieter residential neighborhoods, a fantastic plate of pasta is never too far away.
As you explore the city’s cultural landmarks, let your palate take a detour to the Mediterranean. By choosing one of the establishments listed above and applying these local dining tips, you are setting yourself up for an unforgettable meal that highlights why Dijon is becoming a true foodie capital in Eastern France.
