12 Best Hotels in Pamplona Old Town

Tucked within the ancient fortress walls of Navarra’s capital, Pamplona’s Old Town is a labyrinth of cobblestone lanes, medieval churches, and buzzing tapas bars. While the city is globally famous for the Running of the Bulls, its historic core offers a year-round allure that goes far beyond the festival chaos. Choosing the right place to stay here means trading wide suburban streets for the romantic echo of church bells and the immediate proximity to Plaza del Castillo.

Staying in the Casco Viejo (Old Town) places you at the epicenter of Pamplona’s social life. You are never more than a five-minute stroll from a plate of jamón ibérico, a glass of local Navarran wine, or a significant historical landmark. For travelers who value atmosphere over modern convenience, the narrow alleys and hidden plazas offer an authenticity that modern hotel districts simply cannot replicate.

However, the layout of the Old Town presents unique logistical considerations. Many streets are pedestrian-only, which can make arrival by taxi or rental car a challenge if you are not prepared. The best hotels in this district have adapted to the historic architecture, often featuring steep staircases, unique room layouts, and thick stone walls that keep rooms cool in the Spanish summer.

The variety of accommodation here ranges from converted convents and palaces to boutique design hotels that seamlessly blend modern art with Gothic structures. Whether you are visiting for the San Fermín festival or a quiet winter weekend, the "Zona Vieja" offers a distinct sense of place. The constant hum of conversation from the plazas below becomes the soundtrack to your stay.

For food lovers, basing yourself in this district is a strategic advantage. You are positioned perfectly for a "poteo" (tapas crawl) along Calle Estafeta and Calle San Nicolás, allowing you to sample the city’s best pintxos without worrying about a long walk home. The density of culinary excellence within a square kilometer is staggering, rivaling the culinary scenes of San Sebastián or Logroño.

When selecting a hotel here, the definition of "Old Town" is key. True Old Town hotels sit inside the former defensive walls, offering immediate access to the Cathedral and the main squares. Properties just outside the walls, near the bullring or the Taconera gardens, offer a slightly quieter experience while remaining within a short walking distance of the historic action.

To help you navigate this historic maze, we have curated a list of the finest places to rest your head. These selections prioritize character, location, and service, ensuring that your visit to Pamplona is as memorable as the city’s legendary festivities.

Attractive room and friendly service. Two negatives: longest check-in time I have ever experienced, and no soap for the shower. There is a liquid soap bottle mounted over the sink, but that doesn't really help you. No soap bars. We ended up squirting a bunch of the liquid soap into one of the bathroom cups to use in the shower. These are small points however, and I do recommend the place. Also breakfast was very good.

Perfect stay. Received some mail for us from Portugal. Super thankful super clean beautiful.

Friendly staff, clean rooms, delicious breakfast and in a quiet area. About a 30 minute walk to the city center.

Nice and spacious room, i wish my terrace view room has better view than facing the inside of the square facing other rooms. Overall nice staff and good location - walkable to all the places i needed for business / dining
Harry Tinsley★★★★★
Situated on the outskirts of the city, the hotel is in the perfect location for a leisurely 25 min stroll into the centre with all the attractions & tapas bars. The hotel is modern with good sized , fully equiped rooms and secure underground parking. All the staff were very friendly & helpful; the receptionist providing us with a street map upon which highlighted places of interest and tapas bars. Breakfast was excellent with plenty of choice. Would definitely stay again.

Love this hotel! I can't say enough about the great room, excellent breakfast buffet and nice pool. We really enjoyed our stay. You can not beat the location for the Festival of San Fermin and the running of the bulls. Plus it is quiet at night when you want to sleep.

WOW! We have been travelling through Europe for 7 weeks and have stayed in 12 hotels. I must applaud the positive and supportive attitude from all staff. They did everything and more to make our stay rewarding. A special thanks to these wonderful and beautiful staff members. ALBA SILVIA ILONA ANDREA these beautiful people made us feel like family ❤️

There are people who are naturally suited for hospitality—and others who clearly are not. Alex, the gentleman handling valet, is a perfect example of the former: professional, welcoming, and genuinely pleasant. The check-in team on Tuesday (4/7) reflected that same standard—they were warm, accommodating, and set a great first impression. Unfortunately, the checkout experience was the complete opposite. When I approached the front desk on 4/8 around noon, I mentioned that we had been reassured at check-in that we could leave our car parked until 5 PM (the same time we had arrived). The lot, for context, had been empty all day. The response I received was unexpectedly hostile. The staff member’s facial expression and tone immediately conveyed irritation, as if my request was unreasonable. I was met with a sharp, dismissive “no,” followed by inconsistent reasoning—first saying 1:30 PM, then referencing a manager who supposedly said 2 PM. It was unclear whether there was any actual policy or simply a lack of communication. The interaction escalated to the point where I felt compelled to ask for a supervisor, which should never be necessary for a simple, previously approved request. Putting service aside for a moment, the hotel itself has strong potential. The amenities and overall stay were good, but there are a few key issues that need to be addressed. First, if you advertise king beds, they should be actual king beds—not two twins pushed together. It’s uncomfortable and impractical, especially when you can literally feel the separation between mattresses. A proper mattress topper or connector—something many other hotels use—would make a significant difference. Second, the shower experience was extremely underwhelming. For a hotel of this caliber, the water pressure was nearly nonexistent, making it feel like using a low-grade hose rather than a proper shower. This is a basic expectation that should not be overlooked. This hotel had the potential to be a 5-star experience. However, the misleading bed setup brought it down to a 3-star level in my view. More importantly, the level of disrespect and poor attitude from the front desk during checkout ultimately reduced my overall rating to 1 star. As someone who travels frequently—and more importantly, owns a hospitality group—I find this especially disappointing. In a city with so much charm and appeal, this property has tremendous potential, but it is being undermined by inconsistent service and avoidable shortcomings.

The main point of staying here is the location as it is conveniently situated to the old quarter. The standard rooms are pretty basic and expensive for what you get They overlook the carpark and are small and rather underwhelming with insubstantial storage space. The shower was poor. Despite providing a kettle, no coffee was supplied and the complimentary water was not replaced on a daily basis. We did not bother to eat in as the restaurant was empty and, even more importantly, one of the main resonss for visiting Pamplona is to enjoy the vast selection of good eateries the city has to offer.
Kate Fawson★★★☆☆
The accommodations were quite nice and the breakfast was very good, but the staff made us feel quite unwelcome. We walked in after a very long day on the Camino and the woman at the front desk looked at us like we were a slug on the bottom of her shoe even as we checked in quickly, speaking in Spanish. As soon as we turned away from the front desk the staff started laughing. The glares continued from the front desk staff for the rest of our stay even when we were clean and neat and not wearing hiking gear on our rest day. It soured the entire experience and made us feel judged, even as we paid the high price for the room.

Stayed here for 1 night and it was perfect for a 3 star hotel. The service is excellent - everyone is friendly, they let me check in early, and helped in the morning with breakfast. Everything in the room was clean, comfortable, well laid out, good showers and comfy beds. The location is perfect for exploring everywhere easily, and the bus stop to the train station is right outside. The main bus stop is a short walk away. I would recommend staying here. If you're staying for more than one night it's better to get a room with a view
Arun Suresh★★★★☆
My visit was quite pleasant, and I found the rooms to be well-maintained. 🛏️ The service truly stood out; the staff were exceptionally attentive. ✨ The location is also convenient. 📍 I had a good experience overall. 👍
Petr Veřtát★★★★★
A reasonable hotel in a very practical location with very friendly staff. Our twin room was incredibly spacious and comfortable – I think we were lucky to get a corner one which seemed bigger than normal. The only minor downside was the policy of having to leave your key at reception every time you go out, but even so, we would definitely stay here again.
Codruț Abdi★★★★★
Amazing little gem right in the middle of town. Spotless-clean-fresh rooms. Easy access to anything, close by to all the shops and sights to see. REALLY nice staff - especially the nice ladies at breakfast asking you what coffee you would like. Definitely would go back again, Definitely have a stay here if you are searching
Gerard Woods★★★★★
We are walking the Camino Francis and stayed 2 nights at Hotel Yoldi Pamplona. It was excellent, comfortable, and exactly what we needed. Pablo at the front desk consistantly went over and above to assist us in any way. A wonderful gentleman who also informed us about the city. The rest of the staff were equally helpful, friendly and kind. Food was great as well.

Lovely little hotel to stay in Pamplona. Easy walk to the old town or bus from pretty much outside the hotel. Clean and comfortable rooms. Everyone in reception was professional and friendly. Andrea was extremely helpful from minute one providing very useful information and recommendations. Would definitely recommend.

Stayed on the 22nd June 2025 - after a very hot motorcycle ride across Spain I was really happy with the very effective AC and a lovely cool reception, this was only improved by a very friendly and helpful receptionist. The room was great, lovely bathroom, great WiFi and a fab breakfast in the morning. The garage was very secure and easy to use, with a lift from the hotel directly into the garage. Walk into the old town was very easy and took 5/10 mins. Thanks to the staff, for accommodating me.
Miriam Triguero★★★★☆
Nice and comfortable hotel with enough space for a 5 member family. We booked their apartments and they had all the facilities for a great stay. Full kitchen equipment, two bedrooms, one full bathroom and one spacious living room. They also offer parking spaces. We had a Mercedes Vito and we could park without a problem. Special thanks to Eva for her warm welcome, she explained all the details and helped us with different recommendations for lunch/dinner. Very helpful!

Excellent customer service especially by Pilar and a few others whose names I didn't catch. The rooms are simple but comfortable and the location is brilliant! They really took great care of us during the very enjoyable San Fermin Festival. If you ever come this way, they really have a wonderful group of folks here! Private parking was excellent as well.

This hotel is located in the heart of Pamplona, close to the major sights. The staff are very nice. There is a cafe and a bistro attached to the hotel. The hotel room we got was well appointed and quiet.

The location is perfect! Walkable to restaurants, cafes, boutiques, shopping; in the town center; very near the hotel's parking garage; safe; very comfortable bed, A/C, clean, restaurant/bar on site; the staff at desk & at restaurant are all very friendly & helpful (was able to drive up to the hotel door, check -in & get registered to park in their safe, hotel garage parking about 18 euro/day). I recommend this hotel & plan to return for a longer visit.
Lana★★★★★
The most friendly service I ever met in the hotels. Great location.

Wonderful spot! Such a great stay while doing El Camino. The breakfast is a little overpriced, but the room is so comfortable and clean and the sauna was an incredible bonus. The staff were super helpful. Highly recommend!

Friendly women at the reception desk when we checked in, which I appreciate. Check-in was also quick. The elevator is the smallest I've ever been in in my life, but it wasn't an inconvenience. It's also good that I'm thin and coordinated for navigating the bathroom, where you could easily hit your head on the wall in front of you as you sit down on the toilet. The rooms are modern and comfortable and quiet. There's a fridge with a minibar in it. I had a good stay.
Maya Maya Official★★★★☆
Very nice hotel, center location. Very clean rooms, nice! Breakfast very nice, 15 Euros. Employees friendly. The hotel is 3 Stars .
Barbara McIntyre★★★★☆
The location is perfect. Walking distance to the plaza, tapas restaurants and taverns, but far enough away that the evening noise will not keep you awake. Breakfast is meat, cheese, beautiful breads, fruit, and coffee. The rooms are small and very comfortable; everything you need included. The service is friendly and not overly fussy. Enjoy!
Rotem Shay★★★☆☆
The room was ok, kind of standard: queen bed, desk, wifi, small bar fridge, TV. The drawbacks: no bath tub- only shower, no iron and board, sound proofing is not great. As for hotel services: Breakfast was quite good with several kinds of ham, bacon, egg, cheese, bread, pastries, fruit, coffee, juices. Not a single vegetable though... Hotel does not have washers and dryers for guests use, only pay-per-item service at 2-13 Euro per item. The nearest laundromat is about 7 minutes walk. For parking they have an arrangement with a close by underground parking place, a few minutes walk, for about 11 Euro per night. As for location, it is great. Close to everything in the old city, countless bars and restaurants minutes from the hotel, everything is happening close by if you are looking to hang out at night.
Fabo Novoa★★★★★
The hotel is located just 3 minutes walk from the Plaza de Toros and about 10 minutes from the old Town. Service is exceptional, they go far above the standard, just helping with small details that make a great difference. The rooms are spacious and new, the beds are very comfortable. They include a small fridge and a lockbox

This was one of the best hotels we stayed in on our trip to Spain. The service was exceptional. Old school service. The rooms very comfortable and well stocked. I thought it was a small room until I went to others on the trip. We had a balcony that overlooked the Calle Estefeta where the bulls run. Many restaurants and cafes to enjoy. Everything is in walking distance that you would want to see.
Kean Jones★★★★★
Fantastic hotel. Right in the heart of the old town, on the main plaza, and perfect for everything. Everything was fantastic from the time we arrived. We arranged parking with the hotel so drove right up to the door, handed over the keys, and the car was taken care of until we left. The staff were great throughout, helpful, informative and friendly. The room was one of the nicest we’ve had in Spain and we’ve stayed in a lot of mainland hotels over the years. The double sinks were great, the shower was incredible, the biggest we’ve had, the inner door when closed completely isolated all noise. Staff were excellent, room was immaculate and really comfortable, bed was huge and comfortable, pillows excellent. I think we got a really good rate at £150 a night since this seemed like the kind of quality you get for a much more expensive hotel. We’d try to stay here again if we return to Pamplona.
Diane★★★★★
Super cute hotel. Lots of old world charm and very close to a lot of great places to shop, eat, and explore. It was super convenient and great staying at the same hotel as our travel party. Would definitely come back next time I’m in town
Carl★★★★★
Great rooms. And the hotel management, Anna and Maria, were extremely helpful and professional - They will talk to you in both English or Spanish. One of them kindly helped us navigate the 4 level parking garage by running ahead of our motorcycles and showing us the entrance and then opening the gates as we passed through.
Lourdes Garcia★★★★★
We visited Pamplona for the first time and had the best experience at the Hotel. The morning of my birthday the team in the front desk wished me happy bday and had a sweet gift for me . From the owner to housekeeper everyone was amazing. The bed sheets, pillows had elegant hotel monogram and so soft.. impecable. Is all about the details and human touch. Location is great and the plaza across had so many restaurants. Highly recommended and definitely will go back !

This hostel is in the perfect location on the street where the pintxo bars are. The place is small, rooms are tiny but clean and adequate. We had our own restroom which was convenient.

While this place looks modest from the outside, it was a comfortable place for us to spend a night while on the Camino. Many restaurants nearby.

Nice hotel in the center. Reception is not open 24hr but they helped us through WhatsApp for early check in. Rooms were clean and comfortable. There was a filtered water machine in the lobby which was very useful. It is located on a pedestrian road but there is a parking garage nearby which is not very expensive.

Perfect location for a modern hostal. First of all a very friendly hostal with service minded staff. We could store our luggage a couple of hours after checking out. Modern design with all you need. The restaurant street calle San Nicolas is just around the corner. Surprisingly quiet at night time. We stayed for two nights and enjoyed it a lot. We will be back for sure. Walking distance within city center max 15 min.
Jesse Elliott★★★★☆
A nice quiet hotel for being near a very busy area, literally at your doorstep. You get an access card for the entry door and it has a quaint, local feel to it. No A/C, or not much which is usually just fine for Pamplona, but it does have an air system. It has rooms both on the busier street with bars and on a quieter side street. The accommodations are basic but nice and clean and the employees are all pleasant--the desk is only worked in the afternoons: 2-10 or thereabouts.

The staff were all very kind. The hotel is located close to the university, walking distance. That was good. But, for a hotel costing around €130 per night, I expected a little more. The room felt very basic, with no water kettle, coffee/tea facilities, no toiletries, or even complimentary water replenished during daily cleaning. Even some cheaper hotels I have stayed in offer these basics. The breakfast was good but disappointing, with the same selection each morning. The hotel was fine overall, but at this price point, the facilities and service felt underwhelming and not good value for money.
Chicos★★★★☆
The hotel is decent, but I would place at the lower end of the 4-star hotel category (not Google rating). The room was very clean, and the bathroom was simple but smart. The style is modern but minimalist. The only, but persistent, problem was the noisy air conditioning. It was blowing cold air on a hot day but it was very noisy - interrupting sleep. (4/5) It’s close to a lot of restaurants and grocery stores. There’s a park and even a petrol station outside. You can catch the sunset too. It’s about half an hour walk into the central Pamplona (with the bull ring and the square). Parking is available in a garage at €20 a day/night. Breakfast was good (4/5).
s b★★★★☆
Clean and updated rooms. The hotel is quiet, I barely heard other guests despite the festival going on. Their are nearby restaurants, but is a few km from the city center.
Carlo Scibilia★★★★☆
Great four star hotel. Located in the modern part of the city, but not far at all from the Citadel and the medieval city. It's a very convenient location. Nice and cozy rooms, with all the comforts, although not large. Very kind service. Internal restaurant. Many alternatives to eat and drink outside in the immediate surroundings.
Carlos Negrin Bolanos★★★★★
Such a good hotel in terms of quality-price. If you need or have a relative that is in the hospital next door, this is where you want to stay. The restaurant is delicious too, and the rooms have everything you need. I am very impressed by the quality all-around of this hotel, more hotels could learn of an establishment like this one. Consider getting breakfast or dinner at the restaurant you won't regret it!

This hotel boasts a perfect location for enjoying the city without the noise. The facilities are new and well-maintained. There's a café serving snacks and breakfast. Great experience at this hotel. The rooms and beds are very large, the shower is fantastic, and everything was spotless. The staff is very friendly and helpful, and the breakfast is excellent. 100% recommended. The location isn't very central, as it's about a 30-minute walk to the old town. However, it's very close to El Sadar stadium, the Avenida de Cataluña area in Arrosadia, and just a 10-minute walk from the newer area of Soto de Lezkairu, where there are plenty of places perfect for eating, tapas, or enjoying a good wine.

I recently stayed at this hotel and was impressed by the excellent value for money. The facilities are designed to ensure a comfortable and pleasant stay. While it's about a 25-minute walk to Pamplona's old town, the hotel is conveniently located near Yamaguchi Park—a beautiful Japanese-style garden that's perfect for a relaxing stroll. I also appreciated the early check-in, which made my arrival smooth and hassle-free. Highly recommended for travelers seeking quality accommodation with attentive service.

Positive: Central location at the heart of Pamplona. Friendly lady at the reception which was at another hostel a few blocks away. Relatively clean. Good shower with excellent water pressure. Negative: Small and dark room, just about enough space for two persons with small backpacks. Poor soundproofing, loud conversations from nearby bars kept us awake till the early morning hours. Our stay was on a Saturday night so it could be calmer on a weeknight. It's not really a hostel but an annex of another hostel a few blocks away. We expected a higher standard as we paid a hotel price, twice the price of any hostel on our trip.
James Sowerwine★★★★★
My room was clean, well maintained and reasonably priced - all high marks there. I was extremely impressed with the ease of booking and check in; even though the property is a satellite building to another hotel, I was able to access my room with a code that was emailed to me in advance, so I was able to go straight to my room upon arriving. 5/5.
Edwin★★★★★
We stayed here during San Fermin. The location was very central and it’s very lively even in front of the hotel. Our room was facing the back so we did not hear any noise from the street. The hotel is right next to some wide streets, so it wasn’t hard to to bring luggage in. However, the luggage storage (after checkout) is at another hotel and that was tough getting the luggage through the crowds.
Marta Piovano★★★★☆
Great location. Brand new rooms, I liked it!

Essential Tips for Booking a Hotel in Pamplona’s Old Town

Securing the perfect room in a historic district requires a bit more foresight than booking a standard city hotel. The unique infrastructure and high demand for this area mean that the unprepared traveler can face logistical hurdles. By understanding the local landscape, you can avoid common pitfalls and ensure your stay is smooth and enjoyable, whether you are arriving by train, car, or on foot.

Book Extremely Early for San Fermín
If you plan to visit during the Running of the Bulls in July, you must book your accommodation up to a year in advance. During this week, occupancy rates hit 100%, and prices can triple or quadruple. Waiting until spring to book a room in the Old Town for July is almost always a guarantee of disappointment or an exorbitant bill.

Clarify Vehicle Access
The Old Town is largely a pedestrian zone, and GPS systems often struggle with the one-way medieval streets. If you are driving, contact your hotel before arrival to ask for specific driving directions, garage access codes, or the nearest public parking facility. Many hotels have agreements with nearby parking garages that offer discounted rates for guests.

Pack Earplugs
The charm of the Old Town comes with a caveat: noise. The Spanish lifestyle means streets come alive late at night, and the sound of conversation, glass recycling, and street sweepers echoes off the stone walls. If you are a light sleeper, request a room facing an interior courtyard or a higher floor, and always bring a pair of high-quality earplugs.

Embrace the Stairs
Historic buildings in Pamplona are often protected by heritage laws, meaning elevators are not always a guarantee, especially in boutique guesthouses. If you have mobility issues or heavy luggage, verify that the property has an elevator (ascensor) before finalizing your reservation. Even with an elevator, you may still encounter steps to reach the entrance.

Look Beyond the Plaza del Castillo
While staying directly on the main square is iconic, it is also the loudest option. Consider streets like Calle Curia, Calle Navarrería, or the area near the Cathedral for a slightly more residential feel. You will still be within a two-minute walk of the action but will likely enjoy a quieter night’s sleep and perhaps a more competitive nightly rate.

Choosing to stay within the historic walls of Pamplona transforms a simple visit into an immersive cultural experience. You are not just observing the city; you are living within its ancient rhythm, waking up to the scent of fresh churros and falling asleep to the distant strum of a Spanish guitar. The convenience of having world-class dining and centuries of history on your doorstep cannot be overstated.

Ultimately, the right hotel serves as your sanctuary within the vibrant chaos of the Casco Viejo. By selecting a property that matches your travel style—be it a luxurious palace or a cozy family-run inn—you ensure that your energy is spent exploring the plazas and pintxos bars, rather than commuting. The magic of Pamplona is best experienced on foot, and a bed in the Old Town puts you right in the center of the spell.
