Pamplona is a city that rewards slowing down. While its name often conjures images of the running of the bulls, the daily rhythm here is far more relaxed, rooted in long lunches, animated conversation, and a deep appreciation for quality coffee. The local café scene is an extension of this lifestyle, offering spaces that range from historic literary haunts to sleek, modern specialty roasters.
For residents and visitors alike, the café is more than just a pit stop for caffeine. It is a social hub where friends gather for a mid-morning cortado, where students bury themselves in books, and where families linger over pastries on a lazy Sunday. Understanding this culture is key to finding the spots that truly represent the city’s character.
Navigating the cobbled streets of the Old Town or the wide avenues of the Ensanche, you will find a surprising density of quality options. The challenge is not finding a coffee, but finding the right atmosphere to match your mood. Whether you need a quiet corner to work or a sun-drenched terrace to people-watch, Pamplona has a table waiting for you.
This guide focuses on venues that offer more than just a standard cup. We have evaluated these establishments based on the quality of their beans, the skill of their baristas, the comfort of their interiors, and the authenticity of their service. These are places where the staff remember regulars and welcome newcomers with equal warmth.
Specialty coffee has made significant inroads here in recent years, challenging the traditional Spanish roasting style. You can now find single-origin pour-overs sitting comfortably next to classic café con leche, offering a bridge between the old world and the new. This evolution makes Pamplona a surprisingly exciting destination for coffee enthusiasts.
From traditional pastry shops that have served generations to minimalist spaces championing third-wave techniques, the diversity is impressive. Each venue offers a unique window into the local way of life, proving that in Pamplona, coffee is always an event, never an afterthought.
Here is our curated selection of the best places to sit down, warm up, and taste the city.

I love it here! Finally I found a place to get both tasteful tortilla and cakes in Pamplona and for affordable prices as a bonus! The chocolate fudge and tiramisu were both delicious as well as tortilla alioli. They also have a huge terrace with sunshades in a pretty calm place given it's so close to Plaza del Castillo, so I will definitely come back again!
Kristi Baumbach★★★★★
Friendly service, food was delicious! Yucca bravas was a nice change of pace- version of patatas bravas. Also the vegetarian mini burger had incredible flavor. Definitely will be going again! Update: came back for breakfast. Café, Croissant and garrote chocolate again, did not disappoint. Gracias peregrino!

Coffee is good! Brownies are yummy not too sweet, just right! Pistachios pastry yummy too! Tortilla aioli was great too

It became our go-to place for breakfast during the week we spent in Pamplona: their cakes, smoothies and alfajores made us...and then we'd pass by also to have a beer and some lovely yucas fritas. Great location and really reasonably priced.

We had breakfast: cafe ☕️, omelette, toast with hummus and yuka. Nice cafeteria, service friendly. Omelette was salty, but toast we liked.

We were not too fortunate with the pinchos we selected today, but the place is incredible so you can not miss it.
Cafe Iruña is well known because its Hemingway corner (dedicated side bar for it... awesome!), but the architecture and deco is worth the experience.
Avoid the bravas though....

If you've rated this place 5* you've never eaten good food, this has to be the worse food I've ever eaten, so disappointing given the location, do yourself a favour and try one of the side streets for good food and good staff/atmosphere, typical tourist place they really couldn't care less, they're not going to see you again, theres plenty more tourists taking your place, we left our food and went to a fabulous place around the corner, katuzzara.

Definitely trading off their history. Enjoyed my beverage when i finally received it! Think they need to be more staff taking orders on the outside area.
The bar was well preserved, the other side of the room was a dumping ground of Coca cola drink crates and as for the cheesy dance music at full blast, really! Treat the buildings heritage with some respect please.
I’ve got to say, drink prices were very reasonable.

This review might be a bit different as we went here on the night of the Spain v Argentina World Cup Final. Our expectation was to simple see the place but we got a seat outside facing the square where they had set up big screens for the game. Service was a bit slow, but hey, the biggest night in Spanish football for years.
We got service and then food was good (pork cheeks and pork ribs) - drinks were great. Feel privileged to have been able to enjoy this place with the locals on such a special evening.

‘The’ Ernest Hemingway cafe and bar with great views of the main plaza. His statue is in the bar to the left not in the main cafe. Can get crowded but an essential stop.

Very enjoyable experience. Food was great (especially the cookie). Had Jardin del huerto and Latte Floral. While typically don't like tomatoes, these were very good (less acidic like home). Staff were very friendly, courteous and helpful. Enjoyed the calming music.

I chose this cafe because the desserts in front of the shop looked yummy. Inside decorated with wooden chairs contrasting with brick walls, it looks classic, the staff are good, the place is lovely, the price is not expensive. Hot latte my favorite coffee with cinnamon roll and brownie cheese taste excellent, give it a full rating.

The first place in Pamplona where the staff goes over and beyond.
Friendly, fast, with a smile.
No matter if there is a 18 people table.
The food is great, the people quick and you can feel at home.
Not only food, but a two storey bookstore shines at you when entering.
The amazing mix of home, restaurant, store makes this place worth visiting.
We will be back here, that's for sure.

This newly opened café is a delightful addition to the neighborhood! The space is bright, airy, and incredibly spacious, creating a welcoming atmosphere for anyone seeking a relaxing coffee break. What sets them apart is their focus on coffee—they use beans from an excellent local roastery, ensuring top-quality brews.
We tried their filter coffee, and it was outstanding—smooth, rich, and full of flavor. Overall, it’s a great spot for coffee lovers. Highly recommended for those who appreciate expertly crafted coffee in a comfortable setting!
Larissa W.★★★★★
The drinks are really nice and the cookies are the best! Love the modern design and the variety in food.
Perfect for working there (Power outlets and wifi available) but the music is a bit too loud (in my opinion ;))
Georgios★★★☆☆
Nice place but needs some work.
- Tasty tostada with great avocado but the cookies were a bit meh. The tasted too oily and sugary. Coffee was good
- Service was slightly confused and disorganized but overall friendly. This should improve over time.
- Reasonable prices
- Seating and decor an odd mix between classic Pamplona sterile/overdone minimal and an attempt at cozy (there is SOME wood used but mostly in the old, soulless Ikea way). My advice: Warmer/softer lighting, less white color everywhere, more wood and proper cushions, less direct contact with metal surfaces. The love-seats are a good idea but their uncovered metal arms really diminish the "welcome factor". More normal height tables for enjoying the savory dishes.
It has quite a bit of potential in a burgeoning brunch/cozy cafe scene in Pamplona but there is a lot of room for improvement. Will visit again in a few weeks to consider any changes.

What a find in Pamplona! I’m so happy Pamplona finally has a ‘real’ coffee café!
The newly opened Campañia Café is in a perfect location next door to the Jesus y Maria Albergue for weary Peregrinos and just around the corner from the Pamplona Cathedral!!
You will be greeted with a big hello and smile from the owner Gail and her staff which was a young man.
Gail has her Café in a building with Roman ruins from the 1st Century as part of her seating area. It’s simply amazing!! Downstairs has a quiet area with tables and the lovely scent of fresh lavender to remind you that this was once a Roman bath!
The other wonderful thing is Gail offers many vegan and vegetarian options. We were able to get our latte and chai made with oat milk.
Everything is top notch!
I may just keep walking the Camino Frances over and over and over again (this is our second already!) so I can pass through Pamplona to see Gail and have her incredible service and COFFEE (and Chai tea and food!).
Sean Bolton★★★★★
Sometimes this class of café doesn’t actually have good food, is overpriced, and feels fake. This was legitimately delicious food with nice staff and cozy environment. Wish I were staying in Pamplona longer to be able to go multiple times.

The Basque and Navarrese are known for their devotion to good ingredients and skilful preparation and, in the medieval town of Pamplona, it’s no different. Surrounded by the verdant ridgelines, the people of Pamplona seem to be very serious about celebrating their good fortune to sustain themselves on plants and animals raised in such fertile lands but, when the eating and the drinking are done and the next morning arrives, the only thing that will do is a cup of coffee and it had better be good!
Almu, the owner of Blüm Coffee Shop, tells me that she started out one year ago with a singular vision: to serve beautiful coffee with no compromise, and true to her word, and local tradition, she has sourced the best beans available and baristas so skilful that I find the image of a seahorse carved into my foam.
Almu is an ‘aficionado’ in every sense of the word. The interior design is in impeccable taste and the grandmother who makes the pastries will only make them on the express condition that they are discarded after lunchtime, when they are no longer fresh enough to eat.
Best coffee in Pamplona, and possibly the best in Navarra too.
Nadia Rozumna★★★★★
A fantastic new café that truly stands out for its specialty coffee. They work with Nomad Coffee (tostadero de Barcelona), and you can really taste the quality in every cup. There’s a great variety of coffees, including decaf, and they prepare them using different methods — from espresso to filter, all done with care.
The espresso machine from La Marzocco is a nice touch and clearly contributes to the excellent result. You can tell they pay attention to detail.
They also offer some light snacks, perfect to enjoy with your coffee. Overall, we were very satisfied — definitely a place worth visiting if you appreciate good coffee.
Steven Culligan★★★★★
The coffee is simply outstanding! Five stars for the coffee, no question. The staff were genuinely friendly and welcoming. It’s clear this isn’t just a transaction for them; they take pride in what they are doing. Spotlessly clean and a real pleasure to be in. The coffee is so good I got a 2nd one to take away.
Blüm is well worth seeking out if you like a good coffee 👌
Ivi Sofía Koyck★★★★★
A super nice place, with Nomad Coffee on their shelves. The service is very kind, and the food is fabulous . I had a Suizo with goat cheese and honey. Flat White 10/10
Denis Semenov★★★★★
We found this place by chance — no reviews yet, because they just opened two weeks ago. Felt a bit like discovering a secret.
The lady behind the bar was super nice and made us a really tasty café con leche and a rich, proper flat white. If you’re into specialty coffee, this place does it well — and the prices are very friendly.
The only downside: not much to eat. A humble suggestion from a hungry tourist — maybe add some avocado toasts or something snacky to keep the coffee company.
One curious thing — the toilet area is surprisingly big for such a small café. Kind of makes you wonder what they were planning.
All in all: great coffee, quiet vibe, worth a visit if you're nearby.

The best place to have a beer with your friends. It is a calm place, for young people. The drawback is the poor quality of the beer, AMBAR, but it explains why is one of the cheapest places in Pamplona. Delicious bocadillas for €7,80 in September 2026. Many different flavors. They don't charge extra for gluten free bread, which is very tasty, too. Sandwiches took about 15 minutes, also for takeout.

We came to this bar hungry, soaked to the bone from the pouring rain, and left full, warm, and very satisfied. From the moment we walked in, we felt the welcoming atmosphere. The owner's smile said it all — everything was going to be just fine. 😉 We ordered bocadillos and got great help with our choices. The sandwiches were delicious, hot, and perfectly crispy. We also had Navarre wine, which was equally delightful and aromatic. Thank you for the wonderful hospitality!

Tips for Enjoying Pamplona’s Café Culture
To make the most of your coffee journey in Pamplona, it helps to understand the local etiquette and rhythms. While the city is welcoming, knowing a few insider details will help you blend in and secure the best seats. The following tips will ensure you experience these cafés like a local rather than a tourist.
Timing is Everything
Pamplona operates on a distinct schedule. If you want a lively atmosphere, go between 10:00 AM and 12:00 PM for the mid-morning rush, or after 5:00 PM for the merienda (afternoon snack). Avoid going at 2:00 PM sharp, as many locals will be heading to lunch, and some smaller cafés may pause service or become overcrowded with diners.
Know Your Coffee Order
While specialty cafés understand English terms like "flat white," traditional spots stick to the classics. A café solo is an espresso, a cortado is an espresso cut with a splash of milk, and a café con leche is equal parts coffee and hot milk. If you prefer cold milk, ask for it con leche fría.
Look for the Daily Pintxo
Many of the best cafés in Pamplona double as pintxo bars, especially in the Old Town. Even if you are just stopping for a coffee, glance at the counter. Ordering a small pintxo or a sweet pastry alongside your drink is standard practice and often unlocks the best of what the kitchen has to offer.
Terrace Etiquette
Sitting on a terrace (outdoor seating) is a beloved pastime, but it often costs slightly more than standing at the bar or sitting inside. This is a standard practice in Spain. If you are on a budget or in a hurry, drink your coffee at the bar like a true local—it is faster, cheaper, and more social.
Embrace the Pace
Service in Pamplona is attentive but never rushed. Waiters will not bring the check until you ask for it (la cuenta, por favor). Do not expect to be rushed out the door after you finish your drink. Linger, read a book, or chat—occupying a table for an hour over a single coffee is perfectly acceptable in most establishments.
Pamplona’s café scene is a reflection of the city itself: proud, welcoming, and unpretentious. Whether you find yourself in a historic café that has barely changed in a century or a modern roastery pushing the boundaries of flavor, you are participating in a daily ritual that defines the city’s social fabric.
The best way to explore is on foot, wandering from the narrow alleys of the Casco Viejo to the green parks of the Citadel. Let your nose and your curiosity guide you, and don’t be afraid to try something new. In a city that values the art of living well, there is always time for one more coffee.
