Finding the right place to stay in Lille often shapes the entire rhythm of your trip. Whether you are arriving via Eurostar for a weekend of Flemish architecture or driving in to explore the culinary delights of the Nord region, your hotel acts as your anchor. The city is refreshingly compact, but the character of its neighborhoods varies wildly, from the bustling cobblestones of Vieux-Lille to the modern energy of the Euralille business district.
Lille masterfully blends the grandeur of a historic capital with the pulse of a young, student-driven metropolis. As the unofficial capital of French Flanders, it offers visitors a rich tapestry of cultural landmarks, including the Palais des Beaux-Arts and the citadel designed by Vauban. Choosing accommodation here means deciding between staying inside restored 17th-century townhouses or opting for sleek, contemporary design spaces that reflect the city’s forward-thinking attitude.
The hospitality scene in Lille is incredibly diverse, catering to luxury seekers, business travelers, and backpackers with equal flair. Because the city center is walkable, even a hotel slightly outside the main square can offer easy access to the Grand Place and the Wazemmes market. However, the difference between a good trip and a great one often comes down to the nuances of service, soundproofing, and breakfast quality.
To curate this list, we assessed properties based on guest satisfaction, architectural significance, location, and the tangible value they offer. We prioritized hotels that provide a genuine sense of place, ensuring you feel connected to the culture of northern France rather than staying in a generic room. From opulent five-star retreats to chic boutique hideaways, these are the establishments that consistently outperform the competition.
Whether you are hunting for a romantic getaway, a family-friendly base, or a high-tech hub for remote work, Lille has a bed with your name on it. Below, you will find our definitive selection of the best places to rest your head in this vibrant corner of France.

This is the best hostel I have ever been to. The rooms are spacious, clean and calm. Beds are very comfortable and disposed in a way to give clients as much privacy as possible. Restrooms and showers are also clean through the day. The location is very close to the city center, bus stops are a 1-minute walk. The staff were quite professional and friendly. I highly recommend this hostel. I had a very good stay.

Great hostel in a lovely building. Staff were friendly and bed comfortable with good facilities. Ensuite bathroom was clean and great shower. Well located. Would definitely stay again.
Vince Lemmens★★★☆☆
The location of the hostel is good, the staff was very friendly and helpful and the building and interiors are beautiful. Sadly that’s where the good stuff stops. The room wasn’t clean, there were paint chips on the bathroom floor, the shower had mold/orange spots in the basin and joints. But the thing that really ruined it for us was that our room (room 3) seemed to be next to the laundry room and underneath a bathroom which led to an orchestra of all different kinds of noises all night long. I’m a pretty sound sleeper but woke up 9 times. I’m sure this will be the perfect hostel for some other people but sadly we will not be returning because of these faults.

Amazing experience, very clean , well organized hostel, nice staff, come just one night and service was quick , bed was comfortable, room with AC , each guest with his own luggage storage, brought my padlock but seemed safe without, toilets and shower great , not far from station , also mosque not far for Muslim travelers, overall very recommended

Very friendly staff, they let me check-in early. The hostel interior is very different and special. Loved the breakfast, with a lot of options. The atmosphere is nice and location is prime.

We were allowed to wait in the lobby before the check-in, they provided hot water for tea, spoons and cups, checkout was until 12:00 PM. The location was great. Rooms were pretty average, but overall the hotel is a great option for the price.

The staff were friendly and professional throughout, and a special thank you to receptionist Leo, who was exceptionally helpful and kind. He went out of his way to assist with everything I needed and made the whole experience even better. I would gladly stay here again and highly recommend it!

We arrived and there was an issue with one of the rooms. The gentleman on reception, Leo, was incredibly friendly and helpful,
resolving the problem quickly and efficiently.
Great service.

Brutal low budget hotel at high end prices. I love the door codes in lieu of keys where you have to enter the number at speed or it doesn't work. Rooms like prison cells.

We arrived just before midday, expecting to drop our bags at reception, to check in later, but a room was available and we were checked straight in, which was really helpful. The bar was good to have in the evening, and breakfast was excellent (and well replenished). The room was small but quiet, well lit and the bed was comfortable.
Mari★★★★★
Close to the train station and pretty much across Zenith de Lille, which is perfect if you're there for the concert. It's a bit of a walk to the city center, but it's not an issue really.
Room for 2 was clean, everything needed was there, totally worth it's money. Although blow dry in the bathroom is quite weak, so if you have really long hair, it may be a bit of an issue.
Oliver Ward★★☆☆☆
I think €200+ per night for a hotel that has the word "budget" in the title is a bit steep. And that was still not including breakfast. Other than that it was adequate. Bit noisy at night.
Sarah Lång★★★★☆
Quiet and clean, nearby the train station. Felt a bit far out from the old town and citadel. Room was big enough for a family of three but lacking in shelf space, chairs and a bin (one small one in the bathroom). Room cleaning was very good. Plastic protective sheet under bedsheets didn't help keep the sheets on the bed or help if you get night sweats. Staff were smiley and helpful.

I’ve been away from home for more than two weeks, moving accommodation and cities every few days. This is the BEST shower I’ve had this whole trip.
The staff were excellent, very helpful and friendly.
The room was very comfortable. I think it’s typical of France, but I do miss the kettle, tea and coffee facilities as well as a little fridge.
Nonetheless, the staff were happy to loan me a glass, a fork, whatever I needed.
Good proximity to Lille train station (not more than ten minutes dragging overpacked bags through the streets).
I would definitely return.

Maria Misiou★☆☆☆☆
Extremely disappointing experience.
The room had no air conditioning, despite the very high temperatures. Instead, we were given a fan, which was nowhere near sufficient. The bathroom was unbearably hot, making it extremely uncomfortable to use.
When we raised our concerns, the staff informed us that the hotel was fully booked and promised to move us to a different room the following day. This never happened. Whether it was a false promise or simply poor management, the result was the same: no solution was provided.
To make matters worse, the bathtub drain was clogged and would not drain properly, leaving standing water after every shower. This is a basic maintenance issue that should have been addressed long before guests arrived.
The combination of inadequate facilities, poor maintenance, and misleading information from the staff made this one of the most frustrating hotel stays we have experienced. I cannot recommend this hotel and would strongly advise future guests to consider other options.
Lucie Lila★★☆☆☆
The hotel enjoys an ideal location in the heart of Lille and is housed in an magnificent historic monument. As a former Lille resident, I was genuinely looking forward to staying in such an iconic place and expected an experience in line with both the building itself and its 4-star rating.
Unfortunately, the experience did not meet those expectations.
We had reserved a Superior category room and were assigned room 303. Walking into the room was a real shock. The overall impression was distinctly low-end, with visible lack of upkeep: décor seemingly frozen in the 1990s without renovation, mediocre materials and finishes, a cheap ambient fragrance, and worn, stained carpeting. The artwork is particularly unattractive and reinforces the overall sense of dated, low-quality decoration.
After requesting to see another room in the same category, we were shown and then moved to room 221. It was larger and more consistent in size with what one would expect from a Superior room. However, suspicious stains were still visible on the carpet, as well as on the toilet seat, which is not acceptable for a property of this standing.
Breakfast was served on simple white tablecloths with a small flower bouquet on each table. However, the quality of the products was far below what one should expect from a 4-star establishment: low-grade ingredients and very mediocre coffee.
Regular maintenance and a stronger focus on quality would likely have prevented this level of disappointment — and possibly the more significant refurbishment costs that now seem inevitable.
Such an iconic property deserves an experience that truly matches its prestige.
Taye Hinson★★★★★
The place was very welcoming, the rooms were spacious and the workers there were very friendly. I would definitely visit this place again.
TheMarketingBook★☆☆☆☆
Overall a good location and a comfortable 'bed'. However, this is where it ends. The rooms are advertised as having air conditioning, yet ours had a 'broken' unit. When I raised this, I was told only some rooms actually have aircon and that you would need to contact the hotel to specifically request this. However, this wasn't what was on their website (took a screenshot to this effect). There was an inadequate a fan that simply moved the hot air around.
To make matters worse, the windows do not open as they face the building’s apex, leaving the room like an oven, the temperature reading was 27°C. Not sure if this is legal. I asked the deputy manager if another room was available; he said he would look into it but never followed up. Later, I requested an additional fan, again, he promised to get back to me but never did. Extremely poor service and incompetent!!
We were then moved to another room as the one we were in was an oven. The other room had a shower that dribbled and a curtain pole that fell.
Overall, very disappointing and frankly shameful given the misleading advertising and lack of basic customer care.
YOU WERE WARNED!!

Great service, friendly and very helpful staff, beautiful building modified into a hotel very well. Rooms are lovely and amply appointed. Bar and restaurant and very good. We were unable to use the spa due to modified hours during our short stay but it looked very enticing.

The hotel itself was excellent—beautifully maintained, clean, and I had a wonderful stay. The staff were also professional and welcoming.
However, I want to point out something that future guests should be aware of. Shortly after I made my reservation through the Marriott app, I received an email from
[email protected] asking me to make a prepayment to secure my booking. I've booked through Marriott many times before and have never been asked to prepay via a separate email, so I assumed it was a phishing scam and ignored it.
Fortunately, this had absolutely no impact on my reservation, and I checked in without any issues. That said, I'm concerned about how whoever sent that email knew the details of my booking. It makes me wonder whether there may have been some kind of data leak somewhere in the booking process. I hope the hotel and Marriott will investigate this to ensure guests' information remains secure.
Emily Robinson★★★★★
We had an absolutely wonderful stay at the hotel, and the brilliant experience began even before our arrival. Lily from the front-of-house team took exceptional care of us when my partner called with a few questions. Her professionalism and warmth gave us the confidence to go ahead with our entire trip to Lille.
The suite we stayed in had a lovely classic charm, was well equipped, and the bedding and linens were beautifully presented. Breakfast was simple yet quintessential, and very enjoyable, particularly the warm croissants which were a bliss. The hotel itself is charming, with thoughtful art work and an old Chapel within the premises and within walking distance of the old town, which provided the perfect base for our stay.
The valet parking service was excellent, our car was well looked after and easily accessible whenever required, which was a real bonus. Lily was outstanding throughout our stay with providing local recommendations, and so were the rest of the hotel staff, all of whom helped put us completely at ease.
Thank you for making our pre-Christmas and personal celebration trip so meaningful. We had a truly brilliant experience.
Aleksandr Kuchinsky★★☆☆☆
This is not a 5 star hotel!!!
Breakfast is worse than in the budget hotels.
Room cleaning is okay but cups and mugs remained dirty until I specifically asked to change them.
Spa zone is the worst I have ever seen, dirty mirrors, small swimming pool full of people and the steam room is built so badly, the door has insulation holes and once you enter the room, all the warm air goes outside.
And a cherry on top is waiting for 3 weeks for them to release my deposit, after I called them , their excuse was “we forgot, sorry”
Anyways, it’s an okay solid 4 star hotel.

Absolutely Amazing
I don’t have a habit in reviewing but this hotel has an unparalleled quality of service. The reception team is magnificent. Not only professional but also very knowledgeable and friendly.
No wonder they have achieved so much success together. It takes me a great pleasure to be a guest in this community and be the beneficiary of their efforts.
I take the time to recognise Thibault, Juliette, Simona, Cerise and not last Jeoffrey.
You are making a fantastic job and definitely you are valuable assets being so attentive and proactive…
Located on the proximity of the old town and having everything within walking distance, this well established hospitality point offers excellent opportunities.
Top quality sleep!
The restaurant is very inviting and cosy not to mention the interior garden which makes the difference by being well maintained.
Outdoor breakfast is a delight…
I strongly recommend you to have a look and consider l’ Arbre Voyageur a place with no regrets…
Best!

The first contact is of course with the reception staff. We were welcomed by Delphine like long lost family. She was extremely helpful, friendly and explained everything clearly and in detail. Much appreciated !
As explained in detail below, the room was very clean, comfortable and well equipped and the breakfast buffet extensive and delicious. The entire stay was a very pleasurable experience and if we return to Lille, we'll be definitely staying again at the Arbre Voyageur.

Great location, just a few minutes walk from Lille Europe and into the city centre. Good communication before check-in, my room was ready a little early which was really useful.
Good size room, comfortable bed, nice shower, smart TV and a good selection of toiletries in the room.
Excellent breakfast buffet, and again, service with a smile.
The staff were welcoming, friendly, helpful, patient with my rusty French, and happy to switch to English too!
I only stayed one night, but if I'm back in Lille again, I'll definitely stay here.

It's cheap and the bare minimum. The room is tiny so barely any room to move around and the pillows/ beds were the most uncomfortable I've slept on for ages. But we arrived very late (gone 1am) and the guy on the desk was very nice and let us in the gate/ building. Was a very convenient location and stop off but doesn't have much more going for it. The downstairs looks like a nice communal area but we didn't really get a chance to use it.
Autumn★★★☆☆
There was a mistake with my partner's booking and we were stuck at midnight without a room. We came back the next day for the booking that was prepaid. Rooms are unnaturally small, but very clean. The toilet isn't big enough for a good majority of the population to navigate in. On the plus side, the little lounge is adorable and has a camp vibe. Excellent coffee, as well.
Gemma Bayley★★★★☆
About 40 min walk into city centre or 10/15 min drive. Was a bit motel vibes but absolutely perfect if you aren’t spending too much time in the room. Not so much separation between room and bathroom just a sliding door that didn’t fully shut but room was great for the price
Djallel Boussaha★☆☆☆☆
Avoid this hotel at all costs. The rooms are filthy, cluttered, and in a shocking state of disrepair. The staff is completely indifferent—calls to reception were ignored, leaving me feeling neglected and frustrated. The heating is almost nonexistent, making the room freezing, and the shower simply does not work. Service is non-existent, and the overall experience is utterly disappointing. I would strongly warn anyone not to stay here; this hotel is a total disaster.

The room was insanely hot, although there was a very loud fan I the room.
The garden area is great though and there is plenty of parking in front of the hotel.

We had such a lovely stay here. The location is perfect, right in the city centre with very easy access to everything. We also really appreciated the hotel’s focus on sustainability. The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming, and the management was excellent.
Parking is quite limited, so reservations are strongly advised, but there are plenty of nearby multi-storey car parks, which made it convenient
Peter Farrell★★★★☆
Good location, smallish room, nice and clean. The hotel did have maintenance work meaning the water was off for the afternoon, but apart from that it was all ok.
Breakfast; I paid extra to have breakfast, which was quite expensive and it didn't represent good value for the money.
V Byrne★★★★★
Stayed for a night between Christmas and New Year and was so glad we picked this hotel. The staff on reception are so friendly and helpful, they explained how to access the parking which was brilliant and so secure. The rooms were lovely, we asked for connecting rooms with our booking and they arranged this with no problem. The rooms were so clean and bright with huge windows, lots of lovely fluffy towels, comfy beds and each room has a little fridge with a couple of goodies from the hotel. They had even left a little card in the room with a personal welcome note, a lovely touch. The location is fabulous, just a 2 minute walk and you are in the middle of it all! I would definitely recommend this hotel and would have no hesitation in staying here again, thank you for such a wonderful stay!
Alexander Popadynetz★★☆☆☆
The rooms have a lot of weird quirks. For starters, we checked in to dreadful news that we would not have air conditioning for our room on the 3rd floor. It was too hot to get a good sleep. The windows open wide but lack bug screens, so we had to choose between fresh air and a room full of insects. The room keys barely work; it’s the weirdest thing. We needed to get them recharged almost every time we wanted to re-enter our room (in spite of taking all the standard precautions to keep room keys working). One bed did not have clean sheets when we checked into the room.
All that being said, the beds themselves are very comfortable, and the bathrooms are nice and spacious. The true appeal of this hotel lies in its location: it’s in a fantastic area a short walk away from a lot of great restaurants and attractions. The staff themselves are great and they did their best given the circumstances, but you can only play the cards you’re dealt. If they fix their air conditioning, room keys, and cleanliness concerns, it would be 4-5 stars for sure. Unfortunately, in its current state, I cannot give it a better rating than 2 stars. I suppose it did live up to its namesake however, as it did have me shaking my head and asking “Why?” on multiple occasions.

Had such a great stay! These guys really know how to treat their guests—everyone feels special. The staff is super friendly and professional. The hotel is very convenient to visit Lille being a short walk from the metro. The hotel staff were very welcoming & my room was comfortable & I enjoyed a peaceful nights sleep.
It was great to be able to use the breakfast area to have a coffee after I arrived late in the afternoon & breakfast was the usual good quality I have come to expect from B&B hotels .
All in all I would definitely recommend this hotel to any other female solo travellers.

Beautiful and new hotel with lovely staff. The location is super close to the old town. A lot of supermarkets, restaurants, bars, and shops around. The warm, customer-oriented approach truly surprised us. It was such a pleasure to be welcomed by the Carlton team, especially Frank at reception. He truly went the extra mile for my family, and no request was ever too much.
The hotel has a lot of charm and is in a fantastic location. If you have the opportunity, be sure to visit the bar. Enjoying an aperitif with a wonderful view and the personalised service was one of the highlights of our stay.
Our only remark concerns the quality of the beds, which unfortunately resulted in a poor night’s sleep. Other than that, everything was excellent!

We stayed here for a weekend in Lille. You truly cannot beat the location or the views! We stayed in the two-story Duplex Suite on the top floor. It was comfortable, but dated. The finishes were missing that 5-star polish. But the bed was comfortable and the view from our room was magical! My only other complaint was the elevator. It was extremely small and claustrophobic. We ended up taking the stairs every time (good workout!).
Andrew Cole★☆☆☆☆
1. When we arrived we were told there wasn't a garage at the hotel but there was one close by that the hotel used - when we got to the garage, we found that the hotel staff had not notified the garage that we were coming and the garage staff (who were quite nice) contacted the hotel (where we had just checked in) and verified that we had a parking space. There was not any way to transport bags to the hotel from the garage so my wife and I had to carry our bags there.
2. When we got to our room, I was given a card that supposedly had the WIFI SSID and password. I was not able to get it to work as the SSID never appeared. When I went to the front desk to find out the problem, the clerk, just took my phone and entered an SSID and password - which wasn't much help as I needed WIFI access for my laptop, not my phone. When I explained this, the clerk then wrote down the new SSID and password but when I got back to the room, this SSID was not available either. I then went into the hallway near the elevators and was able to see the SSID but it disappeared as soon as I went back to the room. My guess is that the router for that floor did not reach our room. Poor WIFI design.
3. The keycards quit working each time we'd leave the room and we had to stop by reception to get them re-activated each time. Further, the clerk accused my wife of putting the keycard by her phone which the clerk avowed would disrupt the keycard. This was not the case as I did not carry the keycard next to my phone and both our keycards quit working each time we left the room.
4. The bathtub did not have a stopper and there was only body wash, no shampoo or conditioner - which wasn't a problem for me as I have no hair but was a problem for my wife who has lovely long hair.
5. We paid for the buffet breakfast and when we went down to eat there was a tremendous noise from the floor below us in the hotel such that it was quite difficult to hear each other. The male manager of the buffet area was also quite surly (maybe the noise was getting to him) and when I asked if I could get an omelet he just said no eggs - which wasn't quite correct as there was a hard boiled egg station. The floor was also quite dusty and the carpet had obviously not been cleaned in days. The female staff at the buffet were quite nice - the only person we dealt with at the hotel who seemed to know what she was doing - other than the garage attendant, who we found out didn't work for the hotel.
6. The only positive (other than the women at the buffet) was that the room did have a nice view - but the next time we come to Lille we'll try to find another hotel with a nice view - and which is much better run.

Our room was beautiful and, to our great surprise, we had a stunning view of the opera. That made our stay even more special. When we arrived, there was also champagne waiting for us in the room along with a beautifully handwritten card, which added a very personal and thoughtful touch to our stay.
In the evening we went to the hotel bar for a drink. The atmosphere was very cozy and it was the perfect way to end the evening.
The next morning we woke up to breakfast served in our room, which made the whole stay feel truly magical. The breakfast was delicious and extensive, and once again we were able to enjoy the beautiful view. A perfect start to the day!
We would like to thank the Carlton Hotel once again for this wonderful experience and this beautiful weekend. It was truly a stay we will never forget!
Tips for Booking a Hotel in Lille
To make the most of your stay in the capital of French Flanders, it helps to understand the rhythm of the city and the logistics of its layout. Lille is a major European hub for business and tourism, which means prices and availability can fluctuate wildly depending on the season and the events calendar. Below are essential strategies to ensure you secure the best possible room for your specific needs.
Book around the Braderie or avoid it entirely. The Braderie de Lille, held every first weekend of September, is the largest flea market in Europe. While it is a spectacular event, hotel prices skyrocket and rooms sell out months in advance. If you aren’t attending, check the dates and avoid booking that weekend to keep costs reasonable.
Leverage the train station proximity. If you are on a tight schedule or catching an early TGV or Eurostar, staying near Lille Europe or Lille Flandres stations saves significant transit stress. The Euralille district offers modern hotels with excellent soundproofing, making it a practical choice for short stopovers or business trips.
Understand the parking situation. Driving into the historic center can be a challenge due to narrow, one-way streets and restricted zones. If you are on a road trip through France, verify that your hotel offers private parking or valet service. Otherwise, you may need to park in an underground public garage on the periphery and walk or take the metro.
Consider a weekend vs. weekday stay. Lille is a major convention and business hub, so many upscale hotels fill with corporate travelers from Monday to Thursday. Conversely, weekends attract leisure tourists and shoppers. You can often find better luxury rates on a Sunday night or significant business hotel discounts if you book a stay that includes a weekend.
Use the metro to widen your search. The VAL metro system is efficient, driverless, and connects the city center to neighborhoods like Wazemmes and Rihour in minutes. If the best boutique hotels in Vieux-Lille are over your budget, look for quality accommodations within a two-minute walk of a metro stop. You will save money without sacrificing convenience or accessibility.
Choosing the right neighborhood is just as important as choosing the right star rating. If you want nightlife and high-end shopping, stay in Vieux-Lille; if you want authenticity and local food markets, look toward Wazemmes. For a quiet, residential feel with beautiful architecture, the streets surrounding the Palais des Beaux-Arts offer a serene retreat after a long day of sightseeing.
Ultimately, Lille is a city that rewards curiosity. Once you have secured your accommodation, the rest of the city unfolds easily on foot. Whether you are sipping a local beer in a traditional estaminet or marveling at the modern art at the Tripostal, having a comfortable, well-located hotel ensures you have the energy to explore everything this dynamic city has to offer.
