Lille is a city that manages to feel both grand and intimate at the same time. With its Flemish architecture, world-class art museums, and legendary street food, it draws visitors who want the energy of a major European hub without the overwhelming price tag of Paris. The good news is that a memorable trip here does not require a luxury budget, especially when it comes to finding a place to sleep.
The city’s compact center is incredibly walkable, meaning you are never too far from the cobbled streets of Vieux-Lille or the bustling Grand Place. However, staying in the very heart of the action often comes at a premium. By looking just a few metro stops away or choosing a budget-friendly brand, you can save a significant amount of money that is better spent on museums, waffles, and shopping.
Budget travel in Lille does not mean sacrificing comfort or cleanliness. The hospitality market here is competitive, pushing even affordable hotels to offer stylish design, reliable Wi-Fi, and hearty breakfast options. Whether you are in town for the famous Braderie de Lille flea market, a business meeting, or a weekend getaway, there is a low-cost bed waiting for you.
Understanding the layout of the city is key to finding value. Neighborhoods like Euralille, the area around the train stations, and the outskirts near the university often host the most affordable accommodations. These zones offer excellent metro and tram connections, allowing you to reach the center in under fifteen minutes while paying half the price of a central boutique hotel.
This guide focuses on properties that consistently deliver value, cleanliness, and convenience. We have evaluated options based on guest reviews, proximity to public transport, and the overall experience they offer for the price. From well-known budget chains to independent two-star gems, these are the places where your euro goes the furthest.
Here are the best cheap hotels in Lille that prove you can travel smart without sleeping in a shoebox.

Horrible experience. We arrived late in the evening and had two rooms for four people. First rooms given were uninhabitable, first room wasn't cleaned, second smelled of moist sewage. Luckily we got them changed, even if the concierge said they were fully booked. one room smelled strongly of tobacco, the other was in good condition, so three of us slept in the better one since it was a 3 bed room. Hotel in general was very unkempt and dirty. Never again.

Terrible Experience at Mr Bet Hotel
I stayed at Mr Bet Hotel from December 25 to December 27, and it was a very disappointing experience. The hotel was extremely loud, making it impossible to get any rest. The bedsheets were dirty, which is completely unacceptable. On top of that, the room keys weren’t working properly, adding to the frustration. To make matters worse, on the morning of my departure, there were people shouting on the floor, adding to the chaos. Overall, this hotel failed to meet even basic standards, and I do not recommend it to anyone. Avoid this place if you value cleanliness, peace, and a hassle-free stay.

At £30 per night, you get what you pay for. I wasn’t expecting five-star luxury, but I was hoping for a simple, clean experience akin to a budget Travelodge. Unfortunately, that wasn’t the case.
The room had a strong smell of stale cigarette smoke, and the carpet was stained, potentially with bodily fluids, which was deeply unpleasant. The noise levels were quite high, and the pillows were so thin they were barely usable. On the positive side, the TV worked, the metro is nearby for easy access to Lille city centre (although the metro isn't dog friendly in Lille), and there’s a free car park, which is handy for those travelling by car.
Ultimately, the discomfort and overall state of the room meant we couldn’t wait to leave — we checked out at 5am and were in Paris by 7:30am! If you’re on a tight budget, it’s an option, but cleanliness and comfort leave a lot to be desired.

It's cheap for an unpleasant reason!
I stayed at this property on 20 August 2024 and got bitten multiple times by bed bugs. They itched for days and were obviously repulsive, as well as indicative of the absence of hygiene standards at this hotel.
I was due to stay there again a week later but cancelled my booking as I didn’t want to get bitten again.
I contacted the hotel (directly and through Agoda the booking agent) but have received no acknowledgement or reply, nor of course any refund for the cancelled room.
I am an experienced third-world traveller and normally very tolerant and easy-going, and don't do reviews.
In this case I just had to say something. Stay here at your own risk.
I tried to publish this review on Agoda's website and after several weeks of being fobbed off, Agoda replied: "We are unable to publish the review that you submitted (the one above) as it doesn't comply our Agoda Review Guidelines."
Disappointing, but then who are Agoda's customers??

Good points are a little difficult to notice. Location is not too bad, close to a large retail estate. Free breakfast. Easy parking. It's cheap. The staff are friendly and helpful. The bad points - the rooms are small and poorly equipped. Careful movement required in the portaloo sized bathroom area which contains a toilet, sink and shower which also overflows. This also has some sort of airlock which makes a loud groaning noise almost every 30 minutes 24 hours a day. The smell of tobacco and bleach is prominent throughout the building. The breakfast consists of croissants, French stick, cereal and possibly a yoghurt. Orange juice and coffee are available too. There are no plates to be used so you'll find yourself eating from a plastic tray. If all this is OK with you and you're just looking for a base then it's OK but I would not recommend. A major overhaul is required to bring this hotel up to standard

It gets unbearably hot in summer and it barely cools during the night. The room was a bit dirty and there was no soap. The rooms are extremely small.
But the location is good, next to a tram station. And the people working there were kind.

This is thé worst hotel I’ve ever stayed. There’s this very strong odour that greets you as you enter the corridors to the room. In addition, my nights here was horrible, i couldn’t sleep well because the sheets were not clean, i saw different strands of hair on the sheet, as someone with a sensitive skin, that caused me to itch a lot. The next day, the sheets wasn’t changed, it was only smoothened.
I could literally still see dirt on the floor of the room.
The management of this hotel need to do better
Kirsten Nel★☆☆☆☆
The hostel itself was clean and well-maintained and we were really excited for our visit. However, during the night someone attempted to get into our room (knocking, trying to open the handle, putting in the pin) multiple times. This obviously made us feel very unsafe and so we called the front desk, however no one answered our multiple calls which makes me wonder if the 24/7 front desk is true?
As 2 women traveling alone this was really scary for us and it unfortunately tarnished our stay at this hostel. If the hostel would like to reach out, I will share the videos.

Shockingly bad! Entering the car park was some spaces filled with the remnants of broken car windows so I began to worry but gave it the benefit of the doubt.
Checked in & heading to the rooms we booked (6). Went for dinner and returned to the hotel with men standing about outside smoking weed, standing in the middle of the road & not moving. I went into the hotel, got my case and got out of there as fast as I could. I called my friends and said no way we are staying here.

Perfect for a last minute, budget friendly trip in Lille! Very convenient only two stops on the metro line from Eurostar station, and a short 5 minute walk from metro station. Although not advertised as 24 hour check in I arrived Saturday evening after 10pm and was checked in no problem. Receptionist spoke good English.
The private room, with shared toilet and shower was very affordable. I stayed Saturday-Wednesday.
I have to say, along with other reviewers that the noise from other guests on the Saturday night lead to some broken sleep so bring ear plugs if staying on the weekend. However was peaceful and quiet nights sleel during the week. The room was a bit humid but having the window open helps a lot. So cant complain too much!
The shared showers are quite small and don't leave much room to get changed in. However there was a large sink in the room. The breakfast was OK.

DON'T BOTHER ! stayed July 2025. Room was very tired, bedding smelled of sweat ! Toilet cistern ran all night long
Water pressure at sink tap was ridiculously very low, no plug for the bath and you couldn't adjust the shower head to the height you needed. The lift ceased to work and when it did it didn't sound very safe. The breakfast was minimal and had flies all over the supposed fresh food and breads. The Receptionist was seen smoking in reception. Got to be the worst hotel we have ever stayed at !

It's cheap and the bare minimum. The room is tiny so barely any room to move around and the pillows/ beds were the most uncomfortable I've slept on for ages. But we arrived very late (gone 1am) and the guy on the desk was very nice and let us in the gate/ building. Was a very convenient location and stop off but doesn't have much more going for it. The downstairs looks like a nice communal area but we didn't really get a chance to use it.

There was a mistake with my partner's booking and we were stuck at midnight without a room. We came back the next day for the booking that was prepaid. Rooms are unnaturally small, but very clean. The toilet isn't big enough for a good majority of the population to navigate in. On the plus side, the little lounge is adorable and has a camp vibe. Excellent coffee, as well.
Gemma Bayley★★★★☆
About 40 min walk into city centre or 10/15 min drive. Was a bit motel vibes but absolutely perfect if you aren’t spending too much time in the room. Not so much separation between room and bathroom just a sliding door that didn’t fully shut but room was great for the price

Avoid this hotel at all costs. The rooms are filthy, cluttered, and in a shocking state of disrepair. The staff is completely indifferent—calls to reception were ignored, leaving me feeling neglected and frustrated. The heating is almost nonexistent, making the room freezing, and the shower simply does not work. Service is non-existent, and the overall experience is utterly disappointing. I would strongly warn anyone not to stay here; this hotel is a total disaster.
Dennis Becker★★☆☆☆
The room was insanely hot, although there was a very loud fan I the room.
The garden area is great though and there is plenty of parking in front of the hotel.

I must express my extreme disappointment with my recent stay. The issues were apparent from the moment I entered the premises.
First and foremost, the sanitation and air quality were unacceptable. The odor in the room, particularly emanating from the toilet/bathroom area, was appalling and simply unbearable. This issue made the entire stay highly unpleasant and clearly points to a serious maintenance oversight.
Furthermore, the comfort level was severely compromised by the heating system. The heating was incredibly weak, bordering on non-existent, a fact that became clear as soon as I walked through the hotel door. Given the temperature, this made the room uncomfortably cold throughout my stay.
Finally, I encountered a significant issue with the pricing. The final bill presented to me was drastically different and much higher than the rate originally advertised on the booking website. This is dishonest and an unacceptable practice that feels like price gouging.
In summary, the combination of terrible odors, non-functional heating, and dishonest pricing makes me strongly advise against booking this hotel.

The hotel staff were very friendly. The room adequate, but just a bit too small for our four nights. The breakfast was good and plentiful. However the evening "restaurant" only served pizzas during our time. Some but not many eating places were available close by.

The rooms are very basic but the common areas are relaxed and welcoming and someone who works there keeps bees in the garden and supplies homes to the hotel! Lovely touch.
There’s something honest about IBIS and frequently it feels like the staff care about the place and go above and beyond.
Breakfast is €8 and a steal for the variety and quantity. It’s good stuff too. Very happy.
Emilyann Nault★★★★☆
One employee, whose name begins with a W, is the only reason this trip wasn’t mediocre. His happy disposition was welcoming each time we arrived. He went above and beyond, even unclogging the drain so we could shower, which is not in his job description. He seems to do everything while most of the other staff stand around. I was surprised to find out he wasn’t the manager. I hope his management appreciate him. The man deserves a raise!

This is the best hostel I have ever been to. The rooms are spacious, clean and calm. Beds are very comfortable and disposed in a way to give clients as much privacy as possible. Vince Lemmens★★★☆☆
The location of the hostel is good, the staff was very friendly and helpful and the building and interiors are beautiful. Sadly that’s where the good stuff stops. The room wasn’t clean, there were paint chips on the bathroom floor, the shower had mold/orange spots in the basin and joints. But the thing that really ruined it for us was that our room (room 3) seemed to be next to the laundry room and underneath a bathroom which led to an orchestra of all different kinds of noises all night long. I’m a pretty sound sleeper but woke up 9 times. I’m sure this will be the perfect hostel for some other people but sadly we will not be returning because of these faults.

6 stars if i could for the fantastic AC which cooled our room perfectly. for this price, having a strong powerful AC is everything we could have hoped for. room is big, clean, toilet is big and clean. water pressure slightly little and thermostat fluctuates but nothing too serious. the sweetest and cutest front desk girls who tried to get us our room ASAP and let us check in 2 hours early. big and bright window, lovely hotel near to station. highly recommended for all coming here.
Elaine Fung★☆☆☆☆
The cleanliness of the room is unacceptable. There's obvious stain on the blanket on the first check in day. On the second day, the pillow case has some new stain after they make the bed, and the house keeper used a cushion to cover that area. That's ridiculous. I just discovered there's loads of dusts on the desk, on the second day, where the drinking cups are put. I'm very disgusted and won't recommend this hotel to anyone.
Moira Maughan★★★★★
Very reasonably priced hotel in a very convenient location next to the station. We had a room at the back which was lovely and quiet, we were able to have the window open all night. Staff were friendly, the room was clean and the location enabled us to take advantage of the many eateries in the adjacent shopping centre
Roman Příhoda★★★★★
We snagged a great deal outside of the peak tourist season. We spent three nights here. The hotel is strategically located between the two train stations. This was especially convenient, since we took the train out on day trips every morning during our stay. Due to a delayed flight, we didn’t arrive until 1:30 a.m. Fortunately, the front desk is open at night, and the hotel had no problem at all with the late check-in. The front desk clerk was helpful and friendly. He even offered us a different room type, which we accepted. The room was clean, modern, and spacious enough. In the bathroom, I would have appreciated a better screen around the tub so that water wouldn’t splash all over the bathroom while showering. But with a little skill, it was manageable without causing a flood.
Overall, we were satisfied with the hotel, and it served us perfectly for our purposes.

The location is very convenient. Even though the hotel is in the centre of town, it is still quiet during the night. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The hotel‘s atmosphere is very welcoming and it was fun to discover some antique details like the staircase, elevator, old clock at the reception, etc. Our room was very clean and comfortable with a beautiful view of the church. It is the perfect place to discover Lille. Thanks to the amazing team for making it a wonderful stay!

We absolutely loved this wonderfully traditional hotel. The location was fantastic, and the charming old-fashioned character of the place made our stay feel really special.
We happened to visit during a heatwave, with temperatures reaching 36 degrees, and while there is no air conditioning, our room was still very comfortable. The hotel provided a fan and even left a thoughtful little pack to help us stay cool and comfortable.
The hotel was spotlessly clean, and all of the staff were incredibly helpful, friendly, and welcoming. The option to store our luggage both before check-in and after check-out was also a fantastic bonus.
We loved Lille and would happily return to this hotel again.

We enjoyed our stay here. It was easy to get to via walking and not hard to find. The lady at the front desk did speak English and the guest information in our room had both English and French.
The hotel itself was very clean, quite compact including the rooms but I do not consider this a negative. There was still enough room to move around freely without being constricted.
The facilities were good, a TV, nice shower, bed quite comfy. Nice view of the church opposite too.
A couple negatives were the walls were thin, so we were awoken by our neighbour's alarm and the curtains let through enough light to keep us up further after this.

I recently stayed here and found the hotel to be a solid budget choice, though there a few things travellers should know before booking
The pros:
1) Cleanliness: The rooms were very clean and well maintained which I appreciated.
2) Accessibility: Even-though the hotel is a bit away from the main attractions/city centre, its easily accessible by public transport. There is also a huge shopping centre next to it
Whats missing:
The room lacked several standard comforts I expected. There was no kettle for tea/coffee, no complimentary water bottle, and no proper table to sit down and work. I also found the breakfast to be disappointing for the price charged. The options were quite limited and there were limited warm options.
Madeleine Dymling★★★☆☆
Good hotel, room was ok, ac was not excellent. Stuffy air in the room. Breakfast was decent, not consistent quality. We asked for gluten free, one day they had options the next day, they did not.

We booked here after another hotel nearby cancelled on us on the day of our stay. Staff were very helpful, Rooms clean and tidy.
Only reason for 4 stars is the parking. Eventhough the hotel offer a reduced rate, it is still quiet expensive

Very spacious room with plenty if place to put your personal belongings. Definitely would come back. Not to mention there is AC in the rooms, and there are nearly nothing to choose from during breakfast.
Tips for Booking a Cheap Hotel in Lille
Finding a low nightly rate is only half the battle; securing a stay that is comfortable, safe, and well-located requires a bit of local knowledge. The timing of your visit and the way you book can dramatically change the price you pay. Keep the following strategies in mind to ensure you get the best possible value during your stay in the capital of Flanders.
- Avoid the Braderie Weekend: If your goal is a cheap room, do not visit during the first weekend of September. The Braderie de Lille is the largest flea market in Europe, attracting millions of visitors. Hotel prices skyrocket and availability plummets months in advance. Unless you are specifically going for the event, check the calendar and book around it.
- Stay Near the Train Stations: The area surrounding Lille Flandres and Lille Europe stations (the Euralille district) is a hub for budget hotel chains. While it is slightly less charming than Vieux-Lille, it is incredibly practical. You are a five-minute walk from the center and right on top of the metro lines, making it the perfect base for budget travelers.
- Utilize the Metro and Tram: Lille has an excellent, driverless metro system. Hotels in neighborhoods like Wazemmes, Bois Blancs, or even the nearby town of Villeneuve d’Ascq can be significantly cheaper than those in the center. Because the metro runs frequently and late into the night on weekends, you won’t feel isolated by staying a few stops away.
- Book Parking in Advance: If you are driving to Lille, parking can eat into your budget quickly. Many cheap hotels on the outskirts offer free parking, but central ones charge a premium for garages. Always factor the parking fee into your total cost. Sometimes a slightly more expensive hotel with free parking is cheaper than a budget hotel with a €20-per-night garage fee.
- Look for Weekday vs. Weekend Rates: Lille is a major business hub. Unlike tourist beach towns, hotels in Lille often have higher occupancy during the week due to corporate travelers. You can often find better deals on Friday and Saturday nights in business-oriented hotels, while tourist-focused hotels might be cheaper during the week. Always check the price for your specific dates rather than assuming weekends are more expensive.
- Book a Room with Breakfast Included: Eating out in Lille is a joy, but it adds up. Many budget hotels offer a "Room + Breakfast" rate for only a few euros more than the room alone. Even if the breakfast is simple (coffee, juice, pastries, cheese), it is often cheaper and faster than sitting down at a café every morning, leaving you more time and money for sightseeing.
Lille is a city that rewards the savvy traveler. By choosing accommodation wisely, you free up your budget to experience the true character of the city: sharing a pot of mussels, browsing the book stalls in the Vieille Bourse, or sipping a local beer on a sunny terrace.
Ultimately, a cheap hotel in Lille does not have to be a compromise. It is a strategic choice that allows you to experience one of France’s most underrated cities with a clear conscience and a full wallet. With a reliable metro card in your pocket and a clean, comfortable room waiting for you at the end of the day, you are perfectly positioned to explore everything this vibrant northern capital has to offer.
