12 Best Fast Food Spots in Saint-Malo

When hunger strikes in Saint-Malo, the historic corsair city offers far more than just breathtaking ramparts and tidal views. The local fast food scene blends Breton authenticity with global comfort classics, ensuring every craving is satisfied without sacrificing quality. Whether you need a quick bite between sightseeing or a casual dinner after a day at the beach, the options are diverse and delicious.

Unlike major metropolises where fast food often means standardized chains, Saint-Malo prides itself on local character. Here, "fast" doesn’t mean compromising on fresh seafood, artisan bread, or regional cheese. You will find everything from traditional Breton galettes served at lightning speed to gourmet burgers made with locally sourced beef.

This guide focuses on spots that prioritize efficiency without treating you like a number. We have considered location, speed of service, ingredient quality, and the unique atmosphere that makes dining in a walled coastal city special. Navigating the cobblestone streets of Intra-Muros or the bustling Sillon neighborhood requires knowing where the locals actually go.

For travelers, time is often precious, but eating well should never be a luxury reserved for long, sit-down meals. The establishments highlighted below range from takeaway counters with legendary sauces to cozy nooks where you can rest your feet for twenty minutes. They all share a commitment to serving food that fuels your exploration of this stunning port.

We understand that dietary needs vary, and Saint-Malo’s fast food scene is surprisingly accommodating. You will find vegetarian options, gluten-free buckwheat crepes, and pescatarian delights that highlight the day’s catch. This list is curated to ensure you spend less time searching and more time enjoying the salty sea air.

Without further delay, here are the top spots to grab a quick, satisfying meal in the Corsair City.

Great place! We wanted to eat quickly because we were really hungry. We ordered immediately and were served very quickly and efficiently. The service was excellent. The fries were delicious. I enjoyed a tasty chicken curry panini with generous pieces of chicken.

Excellent service and truly homemade food! We were greeted by a very friendly and smiling young woman who took our order. The dishes were prepared quickly despite everything being homemade. The quality of the ingredients is truly exceptional: fresh fries, melt-in-your-mouth marinated chicken in the taco, a burger with a beautiful, juicy steak and a bun that's anything but mass-produced, homemade rice pudding for dessert... Nothing like ready-made food, everything is made on-site! The icing on the cake: the prices are very reasonable, cheaper than the usual fast-food chains, for a far superior quality. I highly recommend this place; we'll definitely be back!

Pommes Frites very oily and not crunchy at all. Our children didn't eat them. Burger was nothing special, mc Donalds will do better. High price, small portion Nuggets were good and crunchy
Joe Dickinsonβ˜…β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜†
Overall, the burgers are nice and at a very reasonable price! It's worth noting that this is a diner-style restaurant, so it was great for us for a quick lunch! For me the burgers are just let down by the buns, which I think are maybe a little bit dry and fall apart too easily. Perhaps this could be remedied by toasting the buns, or maybe using a different style bread altogether? 😊 The fries are excellent, and the staff are friendly! I would visit again.

A great burger joint in this old city. Burgers are excellent. We enjoyed the Cheese Burger and Fish Burger. Fries were awesome. Good selection of local beer as well, just what you need after you have been walking the ramparts.

Ordered for a family of 5. Problem deleting something from the digital ordering kiosk, ended up with two chicken Caesar salads by mistake. When I realised this and asked the server if they could refund one, she shrugged her shoulders and said no. Kids chicken burger contained the smallest piece of chicken I've ever seen, smaller than a small chicken wing. Both of the Caesar salads contained very small amounts of chicken, cheese and bacon burger was very average. It isn't cheap, and by far the most disappointing meal we had on our holiday.

I arrived at Burger King with high hopes as an enthusiastic supporter of the restaurant. However, my positive mood soon turned sour. I ordered on the terminals (the language translation was mediocre) at 17:35. The food arrived cold at 18:07, and there were very few people there, so I could not give them the benefit of the doubt. The staff seemed flustered, confused, and inefficient. I asked several times for an update, but I was greeted with almost no information or apologies. In short, the staff was terrible, the food was bad, and the speed was woeful. Calling this fast food is, at best, ironic and, at worst, false advertising

The Naked Reviewβ˜…β˜…β˜†β˜†β˜†
Owner is lovely. But food is all reheated (If you look at photos on other recent reviews, you can see the yellow boxes the ready made crΓͺpe and gallete are stored in, ready to put on the hot plate to reheat). Nothing is cooked fresh yet prices are the similar to the real crΓͺperie. I assume it's been taken over and he's still finding his feet, and our food was nothing like the older photos of the lovely filled gallete (just the foil dishes for salad the same). I really want to give more stars as he is really lovely, but I just can't justify it based on the food, it's not what we thought we were getting, and not very good. Such a shame.

It was a cloudy and when all hope was lost, my freinds and I went to bollywood chicken with full hopes high and stomachs hungry, we were not disappointed in the slightest We got both the crispy fried chicken, the spicy fried chicken, and the crousty special. This absolutely did not disappoint in the slightest and may be one of the best restaurants in the area. When it came to the sandwiches; despite lacking a bit of the expected crispness, made up completely with its blast of seasoning and sauce to bring the perfect blend of creamness and tastness. And the bowl, the mango flavor was not overwhelming, the seasoning was just as good as the sandwiches, and with that nice crispness. It was so good that we decided to get desert and that as well was really good. The tirabolly was like a berry cheese cake flavored tiramisu which was so amazing. Please come down to this place it does not disappoint

We came here once a day for a coffee generally which was fine. The place needs some maintenance (missing roof section outside, generally looking tired) and the floor outside needs a powerful power wash to get rid of stubborn stains. In the three weeks we were there, I noticed countless children look very disappointed on arrival when they realised the climbing activity outside was out of action! McDonalds is for kids really and this needs resolving fast in my opinion.

Here is a clearer version that tells the full story more naturally: Absolutely unacceptable. I went to the restaurant to place an order, but I was told they were not accepting walk-in customers and were only serving people ordering from their cars. The restaurant itself was closed, so there was no way for anyone without a car to order. It makes no sense to refuse walk-in orders while also keeping the restaurant closed. How are customers supposed to place an order?

We came here for an ice cream last summer. The staff was very friendly and provided good service. The food was excellent. Fresh, local ingredients. A wide selection of products and unbeatable prices considering the quality. Great value for money. A bit of a wait, but worth it. After the summer, it's crowded everywhere, and if it's crowded, it proves it's a success!

The cashier served me extra whipped cream that was sharp. After I pointed it out, she checked and found that the cream she used had expired in January, even though it was April. There was no real gesture of goodwill or proper apology… we left anyway with the ice cream served in the tubs. I then suffered from food poisoning for 48 hours after eating it. This is a very worrying situation regarding food hygiene.

It was not a very authentic afghani food experience. The kabuli pulao was more deconstructed kabuli. If you have had afghan food else where, this will miss the mark. I felt it was more catered to tourist palette than real authentic afghan flavours. If you have never had afghan food, you will write raving reviews. The establishment is a cute little restaurant and completely family run. If you are looking for a halal option, this is there, but just keep your expectations managed or you will not be disappointed. The location is amazing in the middle of the main city. I also felt portion size were small for the prices but that might just be me comparing to North American and British serving sizes versus French. I've attached photos of what we ordered for comparison. We ordered mantu and kabuli pulawo.. Mantu was not bad, I couldn't really fault it but the pulao, which was the reason I went to this place just was not kabuli pulao but flavoured rice, topped with boiled (not caramelised carrots), raisins were no where to be found and the meat was served up on the side rather than being mixed and cooked right into the pulao. The menu is limited choices of afghan foods. Chapali kebab was made with chicken and was ok flavour wise, still it was not authentic Chapali.. I cannot believe they don't have bolani though. Their paratha was tasty. But as I said, if you have been in town and only eating vegetarian or seafood, this place offers an opportunity to have halal, but if you are expecting real afghan flavours, you will be disappointed. The response below from the owner shows the level. I'll definitely never visit again. I mentioned what I felt was the case as I've eaten all over the world. I didn't say it was not good, it just was not what I expected.. I'm sorry that you won't take the criticism for what it is and better your food. No one is doubting your experience and what you serve works in St. Malo, but again I've had much better afghan food at other places in other countries too.. You are a small family based restaurant and I would support because of it but taking my comment as a direct attack and insulting me is not going to help you. Ethnic food in general in France is just not upto par yet simply bcz competition is less... If you have lived in big cities like new York and London and had some of the best ethnic food from all over the world, food in France doesn't compare. Anyways, i wish you the best sir, but highly disappointed by your way of responding.

Tips for Enjoying Fast Food in Saint-Malo

To make the most of your culinary adventure in Saint-Malo, it helps to understand the local rhythms and dining culture. While fast food implies speed, the French approach to eating still values quality and a moment of pause. These practical tips will help you navigate the scene like a seasoned local, ensuring you avoid tourist traps and secure the best bites the city has to offer.

  1. Embrace the Breton Galette: In Saint-Malo, the ultimate fast food is the galette-saucisse or a classic buckwheat galette. It is portable, filling, and inherently gluten-free. Look for stands near the markets or small crΓͺperies offering "Γ  emporter" (takeaway) options to eat while walking the ramparts.
  2. Mind the Tidal Schedule: If you plan to grab food and sit on the beach or the rocks, check the tide times. A spot that seems perfect during low tide can be cut off quickly when the tide rushes in. Always secure your food, then find a safe, high vantage point to enjoy it.
  3. Avoid Peak French Lunch Hours: Restaurants and takeaway spots in Saint-Malo are notoriously busy between 12:30 PM and 1:30 PM. If you want faster service and fresher attention from the staff, aim for an early lunch around 11:45 AM or a later one after 1:45 PM.
  4. Look for "Fait Maison": When scanning menus, prioritize places that advertise "fait maison" (homemade). This designation ensures that the fries, sauces, or burgers are prepared on-site rather than sourced from industrial suppliers. It is a hallmark of quality in French fast food.
  5. Carry Cash for Small Stands: While most established restaurants accept credit cards, some of the best beachside kiosks or market vendors selling quick snacks may have a minimum spend or operate cash-only. Keep a few euros in your pocket to avoid missing out on a spontaneous treat.

Saint-Malo rewards those who wander with an appetite.
