Standing in the shadow of the Louvre’s iconic glass pyramid, with a full day of art and history ahead of you, the need for a proper French breakfast or an afternoon sugar boost is almost inevitable. Paris is a city where baking is treated as both a science and an art form, and the neighborhoods surrounding the museum are a treasure trove of flour, butter, and sugar. Whether you are looking for a flaky croissant to eat on a bench in the Tuileries or a delicate pastry box to take back to your hotel, the area does not disappoint.
The challenge, however, is distinguishing the genuinely exceptional bakeries from the tourist traps that rely solely on foot traffic. While a mediocre baguette is still better than most bread in the world, you owe it to your palate to seek out the masters. The streets radiating from the Palais-Royal and Saint-Honoré districts are home to some of the most decorated artisans in France, many of whom have won the prestigious Meilleur Ouvrier de France award.
This guide focuses on walkable distances from the museum, ensuring you do not have to sacrifice too much sightseeing time for sustenance. We have prioritized quality, consistency, and the authenticity of the French baking tradition. You will find a mix of historic institutions that have served royalty and modern innovators who are pushing the boundaries of patisserie.
From the perfect, shattering crust of a croissant to the glossy shine of a chocolate éclair, the sensory experience is part of the journey. We understand that your time in Paris is precious, and waiting in a long line is only worth it if the reward is extraordinary. Therefore, we have curated a list that balances hype with genuine culinary merit.
Navigating the French bakery scene requires a little vocabulary—knowing your viennoiserie from your pâtisserie helps, but ultimately, pointing at what looks delicious works just as well. The staff in these establishments are passionate about their craft and are usually happy to guide you toward their signature item. Do not be afraid to ask what was baked that morning.
Whether you are a strict traditionalist who believes the only true pastry is a pain au chocolat, or an adventurous eater looking for exotic fruit combinations and technical chocolate work, there is a spot for you. The density of excellent bakeries in the 1st and 2nd arrondissements is staggering, meaning you are never more than a five-minute walk from a world-class bite.
Below is a curated selection of the best places to satisfy your cravings, all located within a pleasant stroll of the museum.

This was the first place I tried when I went to Paris and thought wow, we are in for an amazing trip of food.
But I quickly found out how good this bakery is compared to the rest!
Would highly recommend 💪
Only downside is the seating is limited so you may need to takeaway, but definitely still worth it.

My fave local boulangerie during my paris stay - always stopped by for the best baguette tradition and lemon tarts!! Good prices and always super sweet service. Will miss having it so close by!
Luis Mendoza★★★★★
Amazing pastries and sandwiches with an affordable price. I went 3 times during my visit to Paris, absolutely recommended!

I ate my absolute favorite pastry ever at this place the brioche de Caramel. Filled with a delicious caramel cream, lots of filling. The girl that served me recommended the bread and she was right, she was friendly and spoke multiple languages. 5/5

We are an Italian couple who love breakfast. We have tried several bakeries and we fully agree that this is the best in terms of quality and price. The only downside is that it is a bit cramped.
It was closed this morning, so we went to another one that we won't name, and I can tell you that we all need this boulangerie because it is clearly superior in terms of quality and delicate flavors. I am critical, but this time, whenever I think of an excellent breakfast, they come to mind.
With love from Italy,

DO NOT EAT HERE.
I was served moldy bread today. This place should be shut down.
We went there for breakfast and wanted to order wirh the QR code on the tables. Nobody greeted us, nobody told us anything. After we ordered we waited for 15minutes until a rude staff member came to us and shouted from the other side of the room "THIS IS NO GOOD" and went downstairs, not telling us to follow him or anything. He then said, that what we wanted wasn't available anymore and we had to take something else and he handed me a moldy panini. He was super disrespectful and talked to us like he wanted to insult us for ordering something that wasn't even marked as out of stock.
If you care for your health, do NOT eat here. The place looks like it gets cleaned once a month. There are so many other boulangeries you can go to!
The Sage Page★★★★☆
Overall we had a great time at Boulangeriw Eric Kayser and probably would go again. The food was great, the only thing was the chocolate croissants could have been more flakey. The staff was pleasant and nice. Atmosphere was fine, it was not bad, not impressive. Generally, the food was great, and I recommend the matcha frappe (basically an iced matcha latte). It should be noted that there is not much indoor seating so chances are you will need to eat inside.

This location was walking distance from my hotel so I frequented it quite often. Excellent baguette, best Madeline I’ve ever had and nice outdoor seating to enjoy breakfast. It’s on a side street so it’s a little quieter and not as much traffic. Although - beware of the pigeons if you’re sitting outdoors

Chocolate chaud did not taste of Chocolate, just luke warm milk! I have many in paris. Disappointed! Cafe éclair also did not taste of coffee! Have had better from the supermarches! Looks are deceiving! However the baguettes were nice!
Tetiana Ievdokymova★★★☆☆
I spent 30+ minutes here. Frankly, I expected much more from this place. I think at McDo it's cozier than here. Basic furniture, very simple decorations. The best point is the window view.
The place is so dirty that clients need to clean the table by themselves. Every second table is dirty with trays and cups to be taken away. Nobody cares. Such a pity that people buy tea in fancy teaware and beautiful desserts just to end up in a dirty mess. Disgusting. My table was shaking, minor flaw but it add up the impression.
About desserts that I saw in the window. Maybe I'm too demanding but I live in a small town and our local boulangerie has a similar offer and it looks better. Some desserts here look a bit tired.
Even if the personnel is very fast and friendly, it doesn't change anything. Could be a good place for a takeaway coffee only. Keep in mind. It's a touristic place, with Kayser, Starbucks and McDo within 100m distance. Next time I will chose other places if I have 30 min to spare.

Really enjoyed my experience at Bo&Mie! The food was delicious, the pastries were so good, and the atmosphere was really nice and cozy. Definitely a lovely spot to stop by for breakfast or a quick bite when in Paris.
Jane Mathias★★★★☆
Bo&Mie is a great casual stop near the Louvre for a quick and satisfying lunch, especially if you’re looking for something fresh and easy between museum visits.
We tried their freshly baked sandwiches—chicken and ham—and both were excellent with soft, flavorful bread and well-balanced fillings. We also had a chocolate square and raspberry compote for dessert, along with a pistachio latte, which was rich, slightly nutty, and a nice treat to round out the meal.
It’s a very convenient spot for a quick bite before or after visiting the Louvre, with food that feels freshly made and consistently good.
Service was friendly and efficient, and despite being very popular with both locals and tourists, the team managed the crowd well.
The café is usually busy but well laid out, with seating across multiple floors, making it surprisingly easy to find a spot even during peak hours.
Pink_Muffin★★★★☆
The place has a great vibe and a wide selection of desserts and sweet treats. I ordered a butter croissant and a pistachio latte, and both were really good.
It was quite busy on a Sunday afternoon, but the atmosphere was still enjoyable. Overall, it’s a nice spot with plenty of food and drink options to choose from.
William Haigh★★★★☆
Saw this place on a YouTube video about Paris and wanted to try it when we visited. Great food, great atmosphere, and great value! The ordering process seemed a bit chaotic. We weren’t sure whether to order at the cash register or at the counter and, there didn't seem to be a lot of guidance either way. Once we ordered and were served…we were very happy with lunch! Great location on the Rue de Rivoli across from the Louvre. Right next to the Rue de Rivoli/Louvre Metro Station - Line 1.
Carol Mackin★★★★★
Sweet desserts and drinks. Range of options available. Enjoyed the brown sugar latte iced and cookie with pistachio & raspberry filling.
Seating on 2 levels. Staff very friendly and helpful. Serves food still after standard lunch time.

Excellent service with excellent food. The savory crepes are one of the best I have ever had and the sandwiches are also delicious. Come here for one of the most authentic food experiences in Paris.

Good place to go for a quick bite for lunch. Plus, the handmade macaroons were delicious. I was given a sample and had to go back to buy a box. Good for people watching, especially all the tourists around the Louvre.
Eunice Armilda Acosta★☆☆☆☆
Terrible. This is a tourist trap — expensive, with sub par food quality. The lady at the counter is argumentative when I said that their crepe is bland — basically just gave me a crepe with very little butter and melted sugar and machine-dispenser americano for nine euros. I tried loving what they gave me and gave it a few bites but being served on paper flatware when I was charged a sur-place fee was a terrible experience. The take away price and the dine in prices are also different and they don’t care for transparency in this place.

Black sesame eclair is so bomb. Matcha eclair also good. They are all quite sweet but having one instead of all 3 like I did is perfect as dessert. These are my favorite eclairs in the world. Mochi goma anpain was pretty good but a little greasy so I wouldn’t get it again if the eclairs were an option.

Nestled in the heart of Paris is a real fusion between east and west Japanese pastries + French bread quality is hard to beat walking distance from the louvre I recommend this to anyone in the area or in Paris for a trip. Truly authentic as there is multiple Japanese staff who know who to properly prepare the bread etc and a great selection of Japanese drinks and onigiri

I think I'm just spoiled by the Asian bakeries in nyc but | wasn't a huge fan of this spot. We came around 8:15 am and the shop was still taking out some pastries and items for the day. It smelled scrumptious and there were plenty of pastry selections from buns and muffins to cakes and cookies. They have a lot of Matcha-forward pastry items, which was nice to see.
I ordered a classic Latte with a Chocolate Croissant and a Matcha Muffin. The matcha taste in the muffin tasted artificial imo, which ruined the experience. The chocolate croissant and Latte were pretty standard. I also tried the Matcha Bun and Matcha Eclair from my brother and they were sweeter than l'd like.
Staff was overall friendly and spoke minimal English. There were still a good amt of customers coming in and out, so it still gets good foot traffic despite my opinion of the taste. Can't beat the Asian bakeries in

Was a lovely stop for lunch after exploring the area around the Louvre. Their formules (combos): sandwich, drink, and dessert are a bit pricier than your average spot but given the location, I’d say it was worth it. I especially loved their tarte citron. Lots of shady seating with garden views around!

It was nice to enjoy a simple coffee and dessert time while relaxing in the Tuileries Garden. I bought it from a place like a food truck, and it was good except for the fact that it was so windy that day that I had to protect the food. 😂

Food was ok, i ordered a tartlet and a cookie, almost as soon as i sat and started eating on their tables an employee came up to me and my mom asking us to leave, i said okay and i want to clarify that there were also like 3 other tables with people and two of them weren’t even eating, the girl started talking with a rude attitude saying ok but leave NOW! and i told her i just bought this i will leave when i finish it and she repeated NO, NOWWWW!! that made the whole experience disgusting because she just took it on us i mean there were two other tables with people just sitting and chatting and she told them NOTHING, i was even eating on my lap not even using the table in case she just wanted to take the table because she was doing nothing with the chairs but no she just wanted US out, i mean if you’re gonna have a serving job learn to have manners, awful place

Great food, with quick friendly service. All the food and drink we ordered here were very good.
The Crazy BeneAddict was delicious with perfectly poached eggs and sauce, with a fresh and flakey crossiant that paired really well with everything. The Miss Tatin French toast was sweet and savoury but maybe a bit too heavy for an early morning breakfast dish.
The yogurt and macchiato were also done really well, and the ice tea was delicious.
Just a note that their location is undergoing renovation until mid Aug 2026 so they have temporarily relocated to another spot just across street and slightly further north. This location is comfortably sized with nice decor.

I had breakfast here every morning during my stay in Paris, and it quickly became one of the highlights of my trip. The bread was always fresh, the muffins were served warm, and everything was absolutely delicious.
It’s such a pretty place, with a lovely, welcoming atmosphere that made each morning feel special. The perfect way to start the day in Paris.
Travel Bites★★★★☆
Lovely breakfast spot in Paris with plenty of healthy, vegetarian and gluten-free options. We tried the avocado toast, greek yogurt with homemade granola, and the crazy beneaddict, everything was really tasty and fresh. The only downside is that the restaurant is very tiny. We were 5 people and had to sit packed next to each other, so we left right after finishing our breakfast.

I visit for breakfast and brunch, very good food
I liked the scrambled egg with mushroom and spinach.
pancake is fluffy and delicious.
Excellent Coffee.
It’s a small place usually full of people. However the waiting time is decent I tried it twice waiting time is less than 10 minutes especially for couples and small groups.

I had a wonderful time at this charming café! The drinks were absolutely delightful—the Hot Chocolate was rich and decadent, and the barista did a stunning job with the latte art. The Americano was hands down the best I've had in days; it was incredibly smooth, with a perfectly balanced flavor that was neither bitter on the palate nor in the aftertaste.
• Crazy BeneAddict 🥐
◦ Description: Thin slices of smoked salmon, 2 poached eggs, and Benedict sauce, garnished with dill.
◦ Review: This was delicious! The combination of flavors was spot on, and the portion was very satisfying for one person.
• The Brouillade 🍳
◦ Description: 3 farm-fresh scrambled eggs, pan-fried halloumi, sautéed spinach & roasted mushrooms, homemade pesto, served with a baguette.
◦ Review: This dish was a winner! The scrambled eggs were incredibly generous (I couldn't finish them all!), and the halloumi added a lovely salty touch. The complimentary baguette was perfect for soaking up the flavors. I would love a bit more bread next time to enjoy every last bite!
I will definitely be coming back for more!

It's very popular so obviously there is always a line. Lucky we went In odd hours so didn't wait long. It's beautiful. Good is ok but very pricey. Portion sizes are decent. Went for the Hot chocolate mainly but left kinda disappointed. Especially the way they poured it. Didn't even get the chance to record it. And this was the first place I visited after landing in Paris so it was not a good start.

I went for a breakfast on Monday morning at 0830. There wasn't a long queue and I only needed to wait for around 10 to 15 minutes to be seated.
I ordered a croissant with scrambled eggs and bacon (€16), a Mocha (€8.5), and a citron tart (€10.50). I loved the croissant as I could taste the butter and it was crsipy on the outside and soft on the inside. The bacon was cooked just right that it didn't feel oily nor dry. I personally liked the Mocha more since it included coffee and their signature chocolate in one drink, you could still taste the richness of their chocolate, which balanced very well with the bitterness of the coffee. I enjoyed the citron tart as well, it was not overly acidic. From the cross-section, you could the beautiful tart included a few ingredients then just simply a custard.
The staff members were friendly to tourists who didn't know French. While the price range was a bit high, I think it reflects well with the quality of the food given. I would love to come again the next time I visit Paris.

Exceptional food, iced tea and hot chocolate. The Quiche was very good. Planned on only hitting the gift shop but the restaurant was so beautiful we ate there as well. Very glad we did. Service was very good once they acknowledged us and started with us. Was a longer wait than it should have been to get a server.

The hot chocolate and desserts were amazing! I missed the croissants this time, so I’ll definitely try them next visit.

When you want to find a place for tea break, this might be one of the options in Paris. But I would recommend to make reservations in advance. An Elegant Experience with World Famous Macrons!
Ladurée is a must-visit if you’re a fan of French patisserie. The atmosphere is refined and charming—like stepping into a Parisian dream. I tried a selection of their signature macarons, and they were truly melt-in-your-mouth delicious. The flavors are delicate, not overly sweet, and beautifully balanced (my favorites were pistachio and rose!).
The staff was courteous and knowledgeable, happy to guide me through the flavor choices. While it's definitely on the pricier side, you're paying for quality and presentation—and it's worth it for a special treat or gift.
The tea and pastries are equally lovely if you have time to sit and enjoy. Highly recommend for dessert lovers or anyone wanting a taste of classic French luxury

I’ve only ever enjoyed French macarons, so I decided to splurge and treat myself to four of them on our way back from the Louvre
They are possibly one of the best treats I’ve ever had - I had hoped so, to justify the cost. But they were absolutely justified, and I am devastated I only bought four
I had the coffee, lemon and raspberry; all were exceptional. It’s a luxury for sure but it might just be worth it

Waiter was rude and claimed not to speak or understand English when it suited him. He asked if we wanted the dessert together with main course. We told him to serve after the main course but he brought it in the midst of our main course. When I asked him to bring it later, he said Cest pas possible and made a cross hand action. The cocktail was overly sweet, I had to add water from own water bottle. The cod fish and chips tasted like frozen, hard and dry. The crepe with raspberries, banana & Nutella tasted ordinary.
If not for the nice decor outside, we would not have eaten there! Overpriced for lousy food & service and I refused to tip!

Beautiful Setting but Extremely Poor Service and Slow Experience
Reservation & Arrival:
We visited Caffe Concerto Paris after finishing our tour of the Louvre. Finding a table was easy, and the initial greeting was friendly and professional. Seating was comfortable and well-spaced, offering a good view of the surroundings and a pleasant atmosphere to begin with.
Ambience & Cleanliness:
The restaurant was clean, bright, and beautifully maintained. The lighting and temperature were pleasant, and the interior design matched the elegant café theme well — stylish and refined, making it a charming place to sit and relax after sightseeing.
Service Quality:
Unfortunately, the service was terrible. Staff were inattentive, forgetful, and disorganized. We had to repeat our orders multiple times, and several mistakes occurred before the correct dishes arrived. The service was extremely slow, with long gaps between courses, as if the staff were completely overwhelmed or distracted. There was no sense of coordination, and they seemed indifferent to guests’ time or experience.
Food Presentation & Taste:
The food itself was average overall.
• The grilled chicken was decent but not remarkable.
• The two pasta dishes were also average, lacking any memorable flavor or refinement.
• The desserts, however, stood out — the Paris-Brest was excellent, and the macarons were good, offering a satisfying end to an otherwise frustrating meal. Presentation across all dishes was elegant and polished, even if taste did not match appearance.
Beverage Experience:
The beverage menu was varied enough, and the drinks themselves were fine. However, water and refreshments were served late, and even something as simple as an extra Coke took over 15 minutes to arrive — only after reminding three different waiters. This inconsistency in service made the experience far less enjoyable.
Value & Price:
While the food and ambience justified the pricing, the service completely ruined the experience. There were no billing errors, but given the delays and poor attentiveness, the visit was not worth the cost.
Overall:
Caffe Concerto Paris offers a beautiful setting with good desserts, but the service is extremely poor, making it impossible to recommend. Despite the appealing location and nice presentation, the experience was stressful and disappointing due to slow, careless staff.

Ladies were very friendly. And the pastries were delicious.
However , I bought 2 fruit cakes and I only got one in the box ( or both were placed in the same box ) but after 2 hours when I opened the box everything that was inside was a big mush absolutely unrecognisable and not edible.
I tried to contact the boulangerie but so far nobody replied 🙁

As an American who previously lived in Paris for 4 years, this time I was touring with my American friends and was so impressed by the staff’s patience as my friends made choices and asked questions. I mostly translated but the staff made an effort to help my friends in English too. The food was wonderful and fairly priced. Get there early at lunchtime if you want a choice of salads.

People were lining up during lunchtime, so I joined the queue and decided to give it a try. Their baguettes seem to be quite popular. I got the salmon avocado toast.
The staff were friendly to local French customers, but rather cold towards me. I politely apologized for not speaking French and asked if they could speak English, but their response was quite snappy, which left me feeling a bit upset.
That said, the toast was packed with salmon and absolutely delicious.

Service is very to the point, slightly rude but not a big deal. Unfortunately the pastries were nothing special. I thought the croissant was actually pretty bad, it was soft and not crusty, reminded me of a supermarket boxed croissant. The pain au chocolat was also not good. Prices are very reasonable for baked goods.
The salads and baguette are both good so i would recommend those, good for a breakfast or lunch.

They have a sign for winning the best baguette in 2026! I had no idea they were this popular. We stumbled upon this place back in 2024 bc it was close to our hotel, and happy to see they are still going strong! It was our first meal after landing in CDG and their sandwiches are legit!

Very good pastisserie. We tried the (everywhere in Paris very viral) fruits! Very nice staff! Prices were ok!

This charming boulangerie is located right outside the Louvre. The pastries were delicious; however, I wish there was outdoor seating so I could enjoy them without having to walk a little ways to find a place to sit. If you're in need of a sugar fix from all the walking, this little pastry shop is a great choice!

I was on the subway heading to the Louvre Museum. I asked a guy on the subway where I could try the best croissant in the area, and he pointed me to this place. There are many bakeries/pastries in the area, but I went straight there.
A super sociable croissant, and a shout out to the chocolate bread, which had an incredible flavor.
So good that I stopped by again on my last day to have a sweet memory of Paris.
Highly recommended, and if I'm ever in that area of Paris again, it will be my first stop.

Pastries are good. Be prepared to make your order as soon as they get your attention. It does get busy and lines moves fast. I recommend stepping to the side to choose what you want before ordering. It felt s little rush when we were making our selection. That’s not to take away from the pastries, there is selection and they are very good.
Tips for Visiting Bakeries in Paris
To make the most of your gastronomic tour around the Louvre, it helps to understand a few local customs and timing nuances. The French approach to baking is rigidly scheduled, and knowing when to go can mean the difference between a warm pastry and a closed door. Here are some essential tips to enhance your experience and help you navigate these temples of butter and sugar like a local.
Go early for the best selection. Bakeries in Paris typically open between 7:00 AM and 8:00 AM. The viennoiserie (croissants, pain au chocolat) is usually baked in the early morning hours. If you arrive after 10:00 AM, especially on weekends, you may find that the most popular items are sold out.
Understand the difference between a boulangerie and a pâtisserie. A traditional boulangerie focuses on bread and breakfast pastries, while a pâtisserie specializes in elaborate desserts and cakes. Many shops are a hybrid of both, but knowing the distinction can help you decide where to go based on your craving.
Always greet the staff. In France, it is considered very rude to enter a shop without saying "Bonjour" (Hello) and "Au revoir" (Goodbye) when leaving. A simple greeting changes the dynamic of the service entirely and shows respect for the artisans.
Ask for the "signature" item. While the classics are always a safe bet, many high-end patisseries have a specific creation that made them famous. Asking "Quelle est votre spécialité?" (What is your specialty?) often leads you to a dessert you might have otherwise overlooked.
Carry cash for small purchases. While most established bakeries now accept credit cards, some smaller, traditional shops have a minimum spend for card transactions (often 5 to 10 euros). Having a few coins in your pocket ensures a quick transaction if you are just grabbing a single croissant.
Do not ask for alterations. In high-end patisseries, the chef has balanced the flavors and textures meticulously. Asking for a sauce on the side or a substitution is generally frowned upon. Trust the chef’s vision and eat the dessert as it was designed to be eaten.
Eat it immediately. Pastries are best consumed within a few hours of purchase. The crispness of a croissant or the crunch of a choux pastry degrades quickly, especially in humid weather. Find a nearby park bench or stand at the counter if available, rather than saving it for later in your bag.
The area around the Louvre is not just a museum district; it is a living, breathing neighborhood where the pursuit of culinary perfection is a daily ritual. Taking the time to step into one of these bakeries offers a deeper understanding of French culture than many of the paintings hanging on the museum walls. The dedication to technique, the respect for high-quality butter, and the simple joy of breaking bread are the true soul of Paris.
As you plan your visit, remember that the best meal in Paris is often the one you didn’t plan for. Allow yourself to wander, follow the scent of baking dough, and let your eyes guide you to the display case that makes your heart beat a little faster. Whether you choose a historic institution or a modern boutique, you are participating in a tradition that has defined this city for centuries.
