Finding a satisfying meal in Paris doesn’t have to drain your vacation budget, even in the shadow of one of the world’s most famous monuments. The 7th and 16th arrondissements, which flank the Champ de Mars, are often associated with fine dining and luxury hotels, but they hide a surprising number of affordable gems.
The key to eating cheaply near the Iron Lady is to step away from the immediate boulevards and look for where the locals queue up. From traditional French bakeries serving jambon-beurre sandwiches to cozy crêperies and international eateries, there is a flavor for every palate.
This guide focuses on quality meals that offer genuine value for money, ensuring you don’t have to sacrifice taste for price. Whether you need a quick bite between museum visits or a sit-down dinner after the light show, we have you covered.
We have scoured the side streets and local favorites to bring you options that prioritize fresh ingredients and authentic recipes. These are places where the service is friendly, the portions are generous, and the prices remain grounded.
By choosing these spots, you can spend less time worrying about the check and more time enjoying the Parisian atmosphere. Here are the best budget-friendly spots to refuel without walking too far from the tower.

Surely must be the best view of the Eiffel Tower in the city. An absolutely gorgeous space looking over both the Seine and towards the Eiffel Tower.
Sai was my server and was a treat as a foreigner to recommend local spots and provide amazing service. Highly recommend!
Drinks reasonable with 5 euro shots. I didn’t eat during this visit but will absolutely be back to try the food on my next visit.
Stunning view, great vibes, good music and one of the best venues I’ve been to in Paris.

Lovely setting and the starters and dessert were good. However the duck was quite flavourless and the fries were just warm. Service felt rushed and we had to use our starter cutlery for our mains as well? Went for our wedding anniversary dinner and were a but underwhelmed sadly.

Dining at Francette was one of the highlights of our time in Paris.
The location is simply spectacular, offering breathtaking views of the Eiffel Tower and the Seine that create an unforgettable atmosphere from the moment you arrive. Whether for lunch, dinner, or a sunset drink, the setting is among the most beautiful in the city.
The cuisine is refined, creative, and perfectly executed. Every dish showcases high-quality ingredients, elegant presentation, and a modern interpretation of French gastronomy. The seafood selection is particularly impressive, fresh and expertly prepared.
Service is professional, attentive, and polished, striking the perfect balance between efficiency and genuine hospitality. The staff make guests feel welcome while maintaining the sophisticated ambiance that defines the restaurant.
What truly sets Francette apart is its unique combination of exceptional food, outstanding service, and one of the most iconic views in Paris. It manages to feel both chic and relaxed, making it equally suitable for a special celebration or a memorable evening in the French capital.
A remarkable Parisian experience that I would gladly repeat.

The view of the Eiffel Tower and the atmosphere on the boat made this a really nice place to eat.
A special shout out to our waiter, Gregory, who was friendly and attentive throughout the meal. We tried the tempura, which was good, but the crispy chicken with curry sauce was our favorite. We ended up ordering a second serving because we enjoyed it so much. The mussels were also very good, and the fresh guacamole was a nice starter. I wasn’t a fan of the signature duck entrecôte, but overall we had a good meal and would recommend this spot.

Overall a lovely meal, but the service needs a bit of work.
The food itself was brilliant. The portion sizes were excellent and everything was presented beautifully. A big shout out to the kitchen—the quality was top-notch and the dishes came out really quickly.
However, the service was a bit of a letdown. The staff were quite inattentive; I was even given a glass with a sharp, chipped edge, which was a bit dangerous. We had to ask for our drinks several times, and after requesting the dessert menu, we waited so long for someone to take our order that we eventually just gave up and left.
The atmosphere was also a bit odd because of the music. It’s a great location and you expect a proper French vibe, but they were playing American pop music which didn’t fit the setting at all.
Price-wise, we paid €180 for two adults and a child (no alcohol or dessert). For the quality of the food, I’d say that’s a very fair price.
Overall, we had a positive time, but the waitstaff definitely need to be more on the ball!

We made a reservation at this restaurant after a long day of walking while exploring Paris, and it turned out to be one of the best dining experiences of our trip!
The staff was amazing! So polite, attentive, always smiling, and with a great sense of humor that made the evening even more enjoyable.
The service was fast and the food was absolutely delicious, with generous portions, excellent value for money.
You should definitely give it a visit , as we sure will next time we visit Paris!

Came around 6:30 PM and was seated immediately. The crowd started to build up around 7:00 PM, and the waiting time can become quite long during peak hours. Overall, the food was delicious and well-prepared. The staff were very friendly, welcoming, and attentive throughout our visit. The atmosphere was pleasant, making it an enjoyable dining experience. I would recommend arriving a little earlier to avoid the dinner rush. Overall, a great place for a good meal.

I visited Chez Pippo with my family during our stay in Paris. We ordered the Trofie al Pesto di Pippo, which came with pesto, pine nuts and Parmesan, as well as the Tagliolini with aged Parmesan cream, mushrooms and fresh truffle.
Overall, the food was good and well presented, but to be fair, some of the flavours were not really to our personal taste. The pesto pasta was the favourite, especially with the children, and they enjoyed it. The other pasta dish looked very appealing, but the flavour was not quite what we expected and some of us did not particularly enjoy it.
This is more a matter of personal taste than saying the food was bad. The ingredients seemed good and the dishes were nicely prepared, but based on our experience, they did not fully meet our expectations in terms of flavour.
Overall, a good Italian restaurant and a decent experience, but not among our favourite meals in Paris. 4/5.

Fantastic!!! Fantastic food, fantastic staff! We enjoyed the home made pasta! It was delicious! Two of us had the Old permasian pasta with mushrooms, my hubby has the pasta with bolognese sauce. Amazing! We also enjoyed the Arugula salad. The staff speak English and are very friendly and helpful. Can recommend the meal, wine or cocktail. Selection of wines , some beers and cocktails available. Just a few steps from the Eiffel tower lawn area. After dinner we walked over to see the Eiffel tower 🗼 all lit up for the night. Definitely a great restaurant, we would highly recommend it.

We were looking for Italian food around the neighborhood, saw this place, and walked in. The pizzas were amazingly delicious!!
Service was quick too!
Our first waitress, who got us seated, was a bit rude and dismissive, but the other one who actually served us was a sweet, nice, lovely lady.
Everything was great, and prices were okay too. Recommended.

This place isn’t really about the food. The food was average—not terrible, but definitely not something I would call good.
Starting with the French fries, they were completely soaked in oil with absolutely no crispiness. We also ordered the beef bourguignon, which was surprisingly sour and lacked any noticeable seasoning or depth of flavor.
That said, the location is truly exceptional. The view is stunning, and for that reason alone I’d recommend visiting. It’s a peaceful spot right by the river, and from the terrace you get a beautiful view of the tower. If you’re looking for a relaxing place with great scenery, it’s well worth a visit—just don’t come expecting memorable food.

second time in Paris and second time in this restaurant. This is a place with very delicious French food, friendly staff, professional service where you feel like a guest at an old friend's place. Very cozy. And the food and desserts simply amaze us every time. Onion soup, entrecote, snails and delicious French toast with nutella or caramel are definitely top! we will come back more than once! thank you to everyone who served us, you are the best. And there is also a terrace outside with a view of the tower, what could be better. 10/10 I recommend

I had a really good experience here overall. The service was decent and about what I expected, nothing over the top but perfectly fine and it didn’t take away from the experience at all.
The food was very fresh across the board and thoughtfully prepared. We ordered the Duck Foie Gras, Escargot, French Onion Soup, and Beef Carpaccio. The carpaccio stood out for how fresh and clean it tasted. The French onion soup was a bit on the milder side, but it had a natural, less processed flavor compared to what I’m used to in the U.S., which I appreciated. The escargot was also very fresh, and the sauce in each shell complemented it really well.
The highlight for me was the Duck Foie Gras. It had a rich, slightly fermented, salty and creamy flavor that was incredibly enjoyable and well balanced.
Overall, the flavors here lean more subtle, which may not fully match my Asian palate, but the quality and freshness of the ingredients really shine through. It’s a fantastic spot, and I would definitely come back the next time I’m in Paris.

We had a really wonderful dining experience at Le Petit Cler!
A big thank you to the Bangladeshi manager there—he was so kind and warm. He personally guided us through the menu and helped us pick the best Parisian dishes for our meal, that suits our taste pallet, which made our family feel so welcome and cared for.
The food was super fresh and prepared with a lot of care.
We tried four dishes:
- Warm Goat Cheese Salad: This was the absolute star of the meal! The cheese was nicely toasted on top and soft, rich, and creamy inside. It went so well with the crispy potatoes, fresh tomatoes, and green salad.
- Cod Fish with Ratatouille: The fish was fresh, soft, and flaky, and it paired really well with the rich, stewed vegetable ratatouille.
- Baked Eggs in Tomato Sauce: Served sizzling hot in a small iron pan with fresh greens and parmesan cheese. It tasted light, healthy, and felt like a nice, home-cooked meal.
- Grilled Chicken with Baked Potato: The chicken pieces were tender and well-spiced, served with a big foil-wrapped potato and tasty side sauces.
And for dessert, the Crème Brûlée was simply to die for! Perfectly crispy caramel on top and smooth, sweet custard underneath—we absolutely loved it.
Since we are used to stronger Indian flavors, the food here is on the milder and lighter side, but you can really taste the pure quality and freshness of every single ingredient.
With such great food and such a friendly manager, this place made our Paris trip very special.
We would love to visit again!

Great little restaurant on the beautiful Rue Cler. It’s a popular spot with both locals and tourists, and the atmosphere is lively without feeling too crowded.
I ordered the faux filet with a pint of blond beer. The food was good, although I asked for the steak medium and it arrived well done. I was quite hungry, so I still enjoyed it and finished the meal.
The service was friendly and efficient. The waiter was very accommodating and even helped me charge my phone, while the host was welcoming and pleasant. The prices are reasonable too, I paid around €30 for dinner, which I think is good value for the location. They have happy hour between 16-19 hours and drink prices were really nice.
Overall, I’d definitely recommend this place if you’re looking for a nice meal on Rue Cler.

Amiable, charming place with great service and good food on the remarkable Rue Cher, which you should stroll down at least once in life. There were six of us, an awkward number, but they quickly moved tables so we would fit happily. We arrived at 6:30 to find that Happy Hour lasted another 30 minutes. Order your wine quickly, we were told. We’ll pour a double glass. It was huge. We had the cod, beautifully prepared, a croque monsieur, a croque madame, and pasta. All good.

I dont know how this place has 2000+ reviews and people on Reddit recommending it.
We ordered the special of the day which was the filet mignon. It was tough and cutting across the grain did nothing. It didnt even look like a filet, it looked like a bavette someone decided to pass as a filet. (remember I said this was a filet mignon right?)
My sirloin was grisly and overcooked. I asked for medium (since medium rare apparently isn't a thing here) and it was well done.
The salad had stems and bulbs.
The staff are forgetful, make mistakes when repeating the order you just gave them back to you.
All in all, get yourself a baguette sandwich from a boulangerie and skip this tourist trap restaurant. We thought we did our due diligence with this spot but that was not the case.
And if the restaurant sees this review, don't bother reaching out to ask us what went wrong, just read the review and stop cheaping out on your customers. Le petit bouillon offers a steak for 14.50€ and they dont butcher it like you just did ours.
Oh and we had the chicken too. Mid as hell.

Had reservation here and it was a good move as it got packed minutes after my arrival. Ordered the angus beef, fish and chips, escargot and frog legs. The steak was cooked as requested a pointe and seasoned well, my son enjoyed it and gave it a 4.5 out of 5. The frog legs were well seasoned and tender. The fish felt a bit overcooked. The escargots were cooked with plenty of butter and herbs, they came out excellent. It is not air conditioned, open restaurant, so it gets loud and it’s busy. Disappointed the duck confit was not available anymore. Overall good food and value.

I hadn’t planned to come here, but when I arrived at the restaurant that I’d chosen, it turned out that the kitchen closed three hours before closing time, but Brasserie de la Tour Eiffel was still open and serving food. I had the planche mixte for an appetizer, beef bourguignon for dinner and mi-cuit au chocolat for dessert. Everything was delicious and the server, Sandrine, was lovely. Somehow, she remembered everything I ordered without writing it down and she was very friendly. I see reviews calling it a tourist trap because of the location (right in front of the Eiffel Tower) but it’s a perfectly good place to eat that deserves extra credit for being open for late arrivals since most restaurants in the area stop cooking hours before their listed closing time. I recommend this place if you’re hungry in Paris.

A little Parisian gem near the Eiffel Tower. The coffee was excellent, and the lemon pie was perfect — the crisp meringue on top complemented the smooth lemon cream beautifully. The macarons simply melt in your mouth. The staff were very friendly and charming. A lovely spot for a sweet break — highly recommended!

One of the most uncomfortable restaurant experiences I’ve had in Paris.
When we arrived, we were initially welcomed by a waiter who was polite and ready to seat us. Before he could, a large man who appeared to be the manager interrupted by loudly yelling at both us and the waiter: “I already have four people, OK?” The tone was aggressive and completely unnecessary. We assumed he was stressed and decided to overlook it.
After we sat down, the same man came to take our order. We clearly stated that we wanted food and ordered two portions of fries. When he asked what we wanted to drink, we said water for the moment. At that point, he refused to take our order and loudly told us that if that was all we were ordering, he would make it takeaway only.
We were genuinely confused and asked whether the fries were free and whether he was actually willing to serve us or not. Instead of answering, he walked away, creating an awkward scene in front of other customers.
Thankfully, another waiter came over and handled the situation professionally. He was calm, polite, and clearly trying to repair the damage caused by his colleague. In fact, all the other staff seemed pleasant and professional. The problem was this one individual, who made the entire atmosphere tense and uncomfortable for both customers and employees.
Watching him interact with people, it felt like he was determined to humiliate customers whose order did not meet his personal standards. It was genuinely embarrassing and unnecessary. We left pretty quickly after that with the takeout fries ( he actually messed the order and gave us just one instead of two no salt nor sauce we just trew away half of it later )
If this man is the manager, he is doing a disservice to the restaurant. The other staff deserved much better representation. Experiences like this are exactly why some tourists leave France believing French people are rude and condescending.
Avoid this place if you don’t want to risk being publicly embarrassed for ordering what you want.

Visited this restaurant for my birthday and I’m quite the “let’s check google reviews first” before booking restaurants!
Le Bouchon was really amazing…. From the service to the atmosphere and food!
It was a surprise birthday trip from my boyfriend and we were staying round the corner at the Pullman so booked here for dinner.
Highly recommend the Rib Eye steak and the lime meringue pie for dessert.
They sang happy birthday and made it one to remember!

We came for lunch and it was so good we came back for dinner 2 days later. The mussels at lunch were fresh and tender and my husband said his cheeseburger was really good. Even through it was 95 degrees, the onion soup was delicious. We also substituted the filet with the Au Provie. Wonderful dinner for our last night in Paris.

As the author of The Grant Colson Thriller Series, I always enjoy finding classic Paris bistros, and Le Bouchon Parisien was an excellent meal just down the street from the Eiffel Tower.
The restaurant sits in a very cute and walkable neighborhood with that classic Paris atmosphere where you can wander the side streets after dinner and still feel surrounded by cafés and city life.
I ordered the boeuf bourguignon, and it was exactly what I hoped it would be. The rich wine reduction sauce had deep flavor without being overpowering. Ooh la la indeed. Kelly ordered a steak and really enjoyed it as well.
What honestly surprised me most were the potatoes. I have no idea what kind of culinary magic they put into them, but they were incredible and absolutely worth going back for by themselves.
The restaurant has the warm intimate atmosphere that makes Paris bistros feel memorable instead of just functional places to eat. The staff was professional, and the entire experience felt relaxed and very French in the best way.
After spending time in the Eiffel Tower district while working on the Paris Nights Romance Series, I started appreciating how much neighborhood restaurants like this shape the emotional atmosphere of Paris beyond the major tourist landmarks. It is a fantastic Paris bistro and definitely a place I would happily return to.

Visited this restaurant today and enjoyed a delicious Beef Bourguignon with garlic bread. I didn’t need the garlic bread though, as the portions were large! I was so full I couldn’t finish it and therefore had no room for dessert! I might re-visit and have something lighter next time so I can try the Creme Brûlée! The garlic bread came with a delicious dressed salad. The Bourguignon contained beef, mushrooms, carrots, and new potatoes, so you don’t need the bread if you want room for dessert! Reasonably priced and so close to the Eiffel Tower,

I had a wonderful experience at this restaurant in Paris. From the moment we arrived, the staff were incredibly kind, welcoming, and always ready to help. They even warmed up my baby’s food without hesitation, which meant a lot to us as parents.
There was a very kind lady wearing All Star sneakers (unfortunately, I don’t know her name), but she was absolutely lovely and made sure all our requests were taken care of with a smile.
The atmosphere of the restaurant was warm, cozy, and inviting. It was very clean, with comfortable chairs and beautiful, calming decor that made us feel relaxed and at home.

Avoid the beef tartare and check your bill carefully.
I ordered several dishes, including the beef tartare after seeing attractive photos in previous reviews. What arrived looked completely different — the meat was a dull greyish-brown colour and did not appear fresh at all. Since it was raw beef and the weather was extremely hot, I genuinely didn’t feel comfortable eating it.
What disappointed me most was the restaurant’s response. When I pointed out the unusual colour of the tartare, the waitress insisted that “the chef uses a different recipe every time” and suggested soy sauce may have been added that day. This made very little sense for a traditional French-style beef tartare — and there was no soy flavour whatsoever. The issue was clearly the freshness and appearance of the meat, not the “recipe.” It honestly felt like they were trying to make excuses rather than address a legitimate concern.
To make matters worse, the bill contained a huge overcharge: €150 for a foie gras starter that was actually listed as €25 on the menu. Had I not checked the receipt carefully, I would have paid nearly €300 instead of around €170. The corrected bill was provided immediately when I pointed it out, but overall the experience felt careless and dishonest.
The rest of the food was average and not particularly memorable and over 90% customer is foreigners/tourists. Unfortunately, not somewhere I would return to.

Got lucky and was able to get a table just walking in! The restaurant is so cozy and nice. There's fun art over the walls. The salmon tartar which had such an interesting flavor profile! The avocado and grapefruit gave the salmon such a zing. Really fun flavor mixing. The beef bourguignon was so tender. The meat fell apart. Absolutely incredible. Was trying to pick up the sauce with the bread I had at the table. And for dessert I had the lemon and yuzu cream on shortbread. So tangy!! Amazing. Every bite incredible. Feel so lucky I got to stop by. Thanks for the amazing food!!!

This is truly one of the most special restaurants in Paris and an absolute must on every trip to Paris.
Pierre is wonderful and so genuine about providing you the best experience. He remembered us 6 months after our first trip and made us feel like we were long time friends picking up where we left off.
The beef tartare is incredible, such fun flavors making it shine in a fresh way. The quail and veal were both done so well! The veal surprised us most because it was almost like a porchetta. You truly can’t go wrong with anything on the menu.
Our favorite type of place is an off the beaten path, hidden gem. This place cares about their ingredients, takes pride in their food and appreciates their customers.

I had an amazing dinner here. The crudo St Jacques was light and fresh, the filet de racasse was excellent and I would definitely recommend! My daughter had the tartare and bourginon and was overjoyed at the flavours. The wine list was great and complimented the meal perfectly. It was the best meal I had in Paris during our stay. Merci beaucoup!!!

Charming, small, family run restaurant with a decent menu, we had the bream and beef bourguignon, simple unspoilt and devine. I had the smoked fish celeriac starter, again simple and delicious . Paris Bistro at its best

My family enjoyed a very tasty meal with friendly and professional service from our waitress (I believe her name was Kaiuah, apologies if I’ve misspelled it), who took great care of us. The restaurant is spacious, with floor-to-ceiling windows and beautiful views over Paris, making the experience even more special. The food was delicious, especially the rib-eye which was melting in the mouth. We also enjoyed the wine recommendations, and the fresh homemade mille-feuille.
A great atmosphere for a relaxed meal — highly recommended, and we would happily return (we ate there 3 times in the course of a week for lunch and dinners).

Kaouthar was our server! Not only is she gorgeous but such amazing customer service! Such a great personality! Loved the food! Fantastic salads, steaks and desserts

We got the salmon tartare and onion soup for starters. The salmon was pretty bad but the soup was fine. However, the whole reason we came was for the steak, and that did not disappoint! Overall the service was also fine but the location and atmosphere is pretty good.

Dropped in to have breakfast. Croissant and baguette were really good, the rest was just ok. I'd say a little over priced but I guess it is in a prime location near the Eiffel Tower.
Found the staff a little rude. Clearing my plates while I was still eating, like he wanted us out (they were not busy).

Charged by location, worst food ever. My companion orderer deviled eggs. The laziest eggs ever. Boiled eggs with a splash of mayonnaise. Not even the yolk mixed in a pasto with spices. I ordered the Croque-Monsieur, a you must try in Paris dish for cheese lovers. Well… the first attempt was carbon with extra grilled cheese. They agreed to re make it. The second attempt was a soggy bread, white on the bottom, carbonized on the edge and what apparently is brown cheese. See for yourself, I dare you to guess which one was attempt 1 or 2. Sadly i didn’t have much time in Paris and the food didn’t got better.

Super dining experience at this establishment. Showed up on a Friday evening and without a reservation and was quickly seated. Had a magnificent meal, including half a bottle of red for under 75 euro, for two people - as described. Great value!
Highly recommend this place. All dishes were delicious. Duck confit just fell of for the bone. Cheeses were great. The dessert was ridiculous.
Highly recommend it
I will be going again before my vacation is over
5/5!!!!!

One of the best restaurants in Paris! We waited for almost two hours because we didn’t reserve a table. The wait was well worth it! We got 4 starters, 3 mains, one dessert, and drinks, all for less than €60 in total for two people! One of the best value for money in Paris. We understand how it withstood the test of time, and why people queue for it. The different starters were amazing! The ratatouille, salad, and french soup were some of the highlights for me. Even the mains were filling and satisfying. Would definitely visit this place again and would book a reservation in advance. The staff was very polite and accommodating even though it was a very busy evening for them. They’re used to having tourists and locals. Highly recommended!

What can I say? Great service is the most important thing. Because when it comes to the food itself, I don't have to give a positive opinion, because that's what it is. Very tasty, affordable, and tastes like France. I recommend it to every tourist
I will just point out that it is very important to make a reservation in advance. Because those willing to eat without a reservation, the number of people waiting reaches several dozen meters
. I recommend for sure

A great restaurant if you want a meal with all the courses (appetizer, main, and dessert) with a reasonable price. though don't expect any major surprises—the food is solid and perfectly fine. We went in the afternoon, around 4 PM, so there was no wait. Ordering was quick, and the food arrived promptly, too. You can pay directly via an app using the QR code found at each table, which makes settling the bill incredibly easy. A overall good experience.

The restaurant operations are fantastic. We booked in advance and got our table so quickly. The restaurant has a great atmosphere, the system is efficient, and the staff are professional. Unfortunately, the food itself was very disappointing. Even with the budget-friendly prices, it wasn't worth it. You're better off saving your money and eating elsewhere.

Great seating, great food, and great service! Benny is the BEST!
We had Burgandy snails, duck confit, fish with risotto, fish & chips, chocolate mousse, creme caramel, and creme brulee. Every dish was fantastic. And Benny was excellent (and funny too). Fantastic meal!

Immaculate. Linnete lived up to the hype.
Best food I’ve had in Paris, and I don’t say that lightly. The snails were amazing, the wine was fantastic, and they had a special beer that was a real highlight. But the hare with potatoes — honestly the best I’ve ever had. Simple as that.
Jack made the whole evening that much more special. The kind of hospitality that’s hard to find and even harder to forget. If you can get a table, go. You won’t regret it.

The service was amazing - very friendly and funny. The food was normal. The Italian salad was great, but we were not happy with the fried cheese. Maybe it was just us. We also had desserts: tiramisu was delicious. So overall the experience was good.

I choose this location since my wife wanted to find a nice cafe that served French onion soup. Plus, the reason I truly targeted this location was the name which is very close to my wife’s name, Minette. So glad we found it. We were welcomed by Benny who sat us quickly a nice outdoor comfy table. Everything was excellent. I had to try the escargot. Benny gave me the personal lesson on trying my first Paris escargot. It’s worth finding nice places off the main streets. The view just down the street is the Eiffel Tower.
We’re glad that American Airlines canceled our flight today. It gave us a full day in Paris to enjoy sightseeing and doing the hop on hop off boat tour. Another big plus.
Smart Tips for Eating on a Budget Near the Eiffel Tower
Finding value in a tourist-heavy district requires a bit of local strategy. While the options listed above are excellent starting points, knowing how to navigate the area will help you save even more money. Follow these practical guidelines to eat like a local without breaking the bank.
1). Avoid the “Formule” at Dinner
Many restaurants offer a “formule” or set menu at lunch for a fraction of the dinner price. If your schedule allows, make your main meal of the day lunch. You can often get two or three courses for the price of a single dinner entrée.
2). Embrace the Takeaway Culture
Sitting down at a café terrace often comes with a premium price tag for the view. Instead, order a crêpe, sandwich, or pastry “à emporter” (to go) and walk to the Champ de Mars. You get the same delicious food with a free, unbeatable view of the Eiffel Tower.
3). Look for the “Casse-Croûte” Sign
While bakeries (boulangeries) are famous for bread, many also serve cheap, high-quality lunches. Look for signs offering a “casse-croûte” or “snacking,” which usually means a sandwich on fresh baguette, a drink, and a dessert for a very low fixed price.
4). Drink Tap Water
In France, tap water is safe and free. When ordering, ask for “une carafe d’eau” (a pitcher of water) instead of bottled water. This simple switch can save you €5 to €8 per person at a restaurant, which adds up quickly for families.
5). Check the Blackboard, Not the Menu
Restaurants that cater to tourists often have laminated menus in multiple languages with inflated prices. Look for places with a chalkboard outside featuring daily specials. This indicates the kitchen is cooking based on what is fresh at the market, which usually means better quality and lower prices.
By integrating these habits into your visit, you can keep your energy up and your budget intact. Paris is a city meant to be savored, and you don’t need a reservation at a Michelin-starred restaurant to taste its magic. Whether you are biting into a crispy baguette or sharing a sweet crêpe, the simple pleasure of eating well is one of the best parts of the Parisian experience.
