Cáceres is a city that feels suspended in time, where medieval towers, stork nests, and golden stone facades create an atmosphere unlike anywhere else in Spain. Yet beyond its UNESCO World Heritage walls, a quiet but confident coffee culture has taken root. Locals no longer settle for a rushed, bitter espresso at the bar; they seek out spaces where the roast is considered, the milk is textured properly, and the atmosphere invites you to linger a little longer.
The beauty of the cafe scene here lies in its variety. You can sip a flat white in a minimalist, light-filled space on a cobbled lane, or enjoy a traditional morning toast with tomato and olive oil alongside a robust cup of local coffee. Many of the city’s best spots are tucked into historic buildings, blending original stone arches and wooden beams with modern design sensibilities.
For visitors, knowing where to find a genuinely good cup can transform your experience of the city. After hours of walking through the old town’s steep streets and exploring the Plaza Mayor, the right cafe offers more than caffeine; it provides a moment of rest, a chance to people-watch, and a taste of daily life in Extremadura. The best establishments take their craft seriously, often roasting their own beans or sourcing from small, quality-focused producers elsewhere in Spain.
This guide focuses on places that deliver consistent quality, welcoming service, and a distinct sense of place. Whether you need a strong espresso to start your day, a quiet corner to work remotely, or a sweet treat to accompany a mid-afternoon break, Cáceres has a spot that fits. The city’s compact size means you can easily explore several of these cafes on foot, turning your coffee hunt into a pleasant walking tour.
Keep in mind that opening hours in Spain often differ from northern European norms. Many cafes open early but close for a few hours in the late afternoon, reopening in the evening. Planning your coffee stops around these rhythms will help you avoid disappointment and allow you to experience the city more like a local.
From specialty coffee pioneers to beloved traditional institutions, the following list represents the best of what Cáceres has to offer right now. Each entry was chosen for its overall experience, not just the liquid in the cup.

Nice cafe, pet friendly. Prices are low, but portions are small too, no service at table, you have to order on the counter.
Broken plate is not fine…

Beautiful space inside and with outside seating too. Cafe con leche tasted thin like using low-fat milk and the coffee didn’t come through.

Great experience! Their own spin on avocado toast and a lemon cake. Both were so tasty and the presentation was stunning. If you see on Google maps, the correct location is actually a bit further down the street.

The ratings seem too high to us. When we entered, we were not greeted, and when we initially waited at the bread counter to place our order, we were still ignored. The same happened when we waited close to the coffee making counter.
When other new customers arrived, it became obvious that the waitress preferred to serve them first. My husband then asked if we could place our order. Although the waitress took our order, she neither processed it nor passed it on. Instead, she immediately turned to the newly arrived customers, served them bread, and handled their order first, even though we had also ordered bread.
After waiting for quite some time, we decided to leave. What made the situation even worse was that when my husband tried to explain our complaint and inform her that we were leaving, the waitress ignored us again.
In addition, the coffee preparation counter did not look clean. We then went to Zeri’s, which appeared to be much better.

We had a great brunch here. I had an açaí bowl that was delicious. My kids had pancakes. We tried some desserts that were on-point. Coffee high quality roasted. The staff gave me attention even at a busy time. They helped me select my beans. I did a batch brew Ethiopia bean, and it was perfect. Sweet and floral.
I found free parking 3 blocks away at a park.

Really nice place for a pre dinner drink and snack. The wine was excellent and was served with a very generous portion of delicious olives. The gazpacho was also very tasty. The views from this place are incredible - either you get the wonderful expansive view of Caceres and it’s surroundings or you get a lovely view of the old surrounding buildings. Wonderful!!

You walk in, you order your drinks and you carry then out on to their terrace with a view all the way over to the snow topped mountains. You sip your drinks and watch storks fly overhead.
You need to buy another drink and soak up the sun.
Nice place to sit out and have a drink or two.

Great food. Well priced and the staff work hard to serve you quickly. It didn't get the 5 start rating because we were still eating our starters when they brought out the main course. For me that's bad communication with the kitchen. Steak was amazing. Worth a visit.

Unexpected surprise, tucked away from tourist areas, but really worth seeking out. Friendly, helpful and knowledgeable staff, good wine, and excellent food, also good coffee. It was a very busy lunchtime service and we managed to get a table.
We had vegetable tempura and one of their amazing steaks aged 40days, both were cooked to perfection - although be aware if you want anything other than medium-rare steak, do specifically ask.

Very nice - well cooked food and pleasant staff, one of whom, at least, speaks English.

Fanastic steak and aperitifs here, and great attention by staff who spoke to us in English - we really appreciated their efforts. Cold red wine aperitifs were also a highlight, just what we wanted. We highly recommend this restaurant.

This is a bar where you can enjoy beers, wines, cider, or soft drinks accompanied by excellent tapas and larger portions (half or full).
If you like traditional food, this is a fantastic place; they have a variety of tapas and sandwiches. They also serve very good breakfasts with quality bread and ingredients. The waiters are very friendly and make it a very pleasant experience. There is plenty of parking in the area, and they have an outdoor terrace in addition to the indoor seating.

Saw this place was rated one of the best specialty coffees in Spain so I made sure to visit when I was in Cáceres. They’re located at the center as well so they’re easy to find.
I liked that the prices were affordable and the coffee was indeed good. I wish the red velvet cookie had cream cheese instead of white chocolate cookie but other than that, it was nicely baked.

Tips for Enjoying Cafes in Cáceres
A little local knowledge goes a long way when exploring the coffee scene in Cáceres. Understanding the rhythm of the day, how to order, and what to expect will help you blend in and make the most of every stop. These practical tips will enhance your experience and ensure you find exactly what you are looking for.
Learn the local coffee language. In many traditional Spanish cafes, ordering a “café solo” gets you an espresso, a “cortado” is an espresso with a splash of milk, and a “café con leche” is closer to a latte. If you want a larger, milder coffee, ask for a “café americano.” Specialty cafes will understand terms like flat white or cappuccino, but knowing the basics helps everywhere.
Embrace the tostada ritual. Breakfast in Cáceres is often a toasted bread base topped with crushed tomato, olive oil, and sometimes Iberian ham. Many of the best cafes serve this simple but perfect combination. Order a “tostada con tomate y aceite” alongside your coffee for an authentic and affordable start to the day.
Watch the clock. Many smaller, quality-focused cafes close between roughly 4:00 PM and 7:00 PM. If you plan to have an afternoon coffee, check the opening hours in advance. Evenings are often quieter, making them a lovely time to enjoy a slower-paced visit.
Go beyond the Plaza Mayor. While the main square is beautiful and offers plenty of options, the cafes just a street or two away often provide better quality, lower prices, and a more local atmosphere. A short walk into the side streets of the old town or the modern center can lead to a far more memorable cup.
Bring cash for small purchases. While most established cafes accept credit cards, some smaller, traditional spots may have a minimum spend or prefer cash for a simple coffee. Carrying a few euros in coins will make your life easier, especially when hopping between multiple locations.
Look for specialty roasters. Cáceres has a growing number of cafes that roast their own beans or source from respected Spanish roasters. These places are ideal if you appreciate nuanced flavors, alternative brewing methods like V60 or Chemex, and baristas who can tell you about the origin of the coffee.
Consider sitting at the bar. In traditional establishments, coffee at the bar is often cheaper than table service and gives you a front-row seat to the daily theater of Spanish cafe life. If you are in a hurry, this is also the fastest way to get served.
The cafe culture in Cáceres continues to evolve, blending deep-rooted traditions with a new wave of enthusiasm for specialty coffee. What makes the city special is that you can experience both ends of the spectrum within a single afternoon, moving from a historic, marble-topped bar to a sleek, modern roastery without ever feeling rushed.
Taking the time to explore these spaces will enrich your visit far beyond the caffeine boost. Each cafe on this list offers a different window into the city, whether through its architecture, its people, or its approach to the craft of coffee. So slow down, order another cortado, and let Cáceres reveal itself one cup at a time.
