Cáceres is a city that rewards those who arrive with an appetite. While its UNESCO-listed old town is famous for medieval towers, stucco palaces, and storks nesting high above the plazas, the local food scene is equally monumental. From smoky grilled meats to hearty spoon dishes, the cuisine here is rooted in Extremadura’s pastoral traditions and the prized ingredients of the surrounding dehesa.
Eating out in Cáceres is rarely a rushed affair. Menus are built around Iberian pork, lamb, wild game, and seasonal vegetables, often finished with a glass of local Ribera del Guadiana wine. The challenge for visitors is knowing which historic-looking doorway leads to a genuinely traditional kitchen and which leads to a tourist menu designed for quick turnover.
This guide focuses on restaurants that have earned their reputation through consistency, local sourcing, and respect for Extremaduran recipes. These are places where grandmothers still roll migas by hand, where Torta del Casar is served at the perfect temperature, and where the grill master understands that acorn-fed pork needs little more than salt and patience.
Whether you are staying within the ancient walls of the Ciudad Monumental or venturing into the modern lanes around Plaza Mayor, you will find that tradition here is not a theme. It is a daily practice, carried out in tile-lined dining rooms, family-run taverns, and stone cellars that have fed travelers for centuries.
The restaurants below represent the best of Cáceres for those seeking authentic regional flavors rather than international fusion. Each entry has been selected for its consistent execution of local dishes, its atmosphere, and its ability to offer a genuinely memorable taste of this underrated Spanish food capital.
A note on timing: lunch in Cáceres typically begins after 1:30 p.m. and dinner rarely starts before 8:30 p.m. Many traditional kitchens close between lunch and dinner, so plan your sightseeing around the local rhythm rather than expecting an early evening meal.

High-quality ingredients in a delightful setting, but lacking in flavor depth.
We visited Nolasco for lunch with high expectations based on previous reviews. As someone with years of experience in fine dining, I found our server to be professional and attentive, even though it was clear she was still finding her footing in what appeared to be a new role for her.
While I applaud the chef for using fresh, high-quality ingredients and providing a lovely presentation, the execution fell short on the palate. Most dishes were surprisingly bland, and the sardines were unfortunately one-dimensional—overly salty without any nuanced flavor. We ultimately skipped dessert, as the only appealing option was unavailable that day. Given the price point, I expected a more sophisticated flavor profile from this establishment.

Excellent restaurant. We shared the grilled vegetables and we had the glazed cod and the entrecôte. Best steak in Spain 🇪🇸 ! We are walking the Camino from Almeria to Santiago. Excellent cheese cake and a fine bottle of red wine. Always enjoy the beers 🍻.
Wonderful staff.
Highly recommend.

Everything was perfect. Excellent food, service, and vibes. We had menu extremeño, 4 entries+2mains+1 dessert worth more than what you pay. It was an pleasant experience.
Highly recommended.

I place too often 5 stars in many restaurants and when I find an extremely excellent restaurant the I'm not able to remark how good it is.
Nolasco is one of this places.
I can not explain how good the experience was. You must go and check by yourself:rhe place ia lovely, the wakters are extremely efficient and the food is from another world.
Totally recommended.

Found this place as we drive through town. They seated us even with a big wedding party arriving mid afternoon. Food was outrageously good. My wife and I are both chefs so we are careful to write reviews. The only miss of our meal was the rice and prawns. Far too salty. Maybe the kitchen was having a bad day? Flavors were perfect with the fish stock just too heavily salted.

Been to this restaurant many times and always left looking forward to the next visit.
From starter to finish, each dish is elaborated with quality produce, much of it local, served with pride and professionalism.
An impeccable restaurant that never disappoints!

We have been some days in Cáceres on holiday, and despite most of the places we went were very good, this was the best by far. Superb food, superb service. And the price was good for the quality of the place. Ok, it is not cheap, but you must take into account the general quality of the service and the food. Great place, great value.

A Culinary Gem in Cáceres – Truly International Standards!
Madruelo Restaurante is easily the best dining experience in Cáceres and a stand out among those restaurants we have encountered globally. The vibrant flavors are matched only by the stunning presentation and the warm, efficient service.
On our first night, we enjoyed the prix fixe menu, which is an incredible value. The Retinto beef carpaccio with foie gras was a revelation, followed by perfectly executed cod in porcini sauce, a succulent Iberian pork tenderloin with old-fashioned mustard, and a chocolate cake with chocolate sauce.
We were so impressed by the chef's offerings that we returned for lunch the next day. This time, we explored the white bean soup and the sea bass (also with the porcini sauce which is a must-try!). We finished with the apple strudel and the Técula Mécula, a traditional Extremaduran almond cake.
If you are able to only visit once (which would be a shame), order the prix fixe menu and add the apple strudel as a final treat (the delicate pastry simply melts in your mouth with fragrant apples completely the symphony). If I lived in Cáceres, I would most certainly be a regular here! Thank you for two absolutely outstanding meals!

Anna and Francisco run this magnificent restaurante in Caceres. It is absolutely worth visiting and definitely the finest meals we have had during our tour of mid east of Spain. Everything we tried was so special and showcased the flvours and artistry you expect for fine dining. In particular we salute the fried octopus such a fine dish. Mixed vegetables were splendid and my wife ate different recipes of bacalao on two nights both top class. I had Iberica Pork again so tasty, all dishes are skillfully desined and masterfully excecuted. The service and attention certainly added to our experience and the pricing was so reasonable. Do yourself a favour and seek out this gastronomic delight. 10/10

We were driving from Lisbon to Madrid and happened upon this place- it was SPECTACULAR!! They went out of their way to accommodate us, I am a pescatarian and the other 3 people were meat eaters. Wow! Totally blew our socks off delicious! He made sauces that exploded with flavor on fresh meats and fish and then he put together the very best vegetarian zucchini, tomato, paprika, cheese heavenly thing- I can’t express how great it was!! The meat eaters were equally happy!! And yes the wine and dessert were also enjoyed! Then we also tried a local liquor that was new to us called bellota (acorn) - so delicious, nothing like we had ever tried.
We really enjoyed how friendly the chef and waitress were with us. We don’t speak Spanish well but she helped us try and we shared many laughs!
It was a complete joy to eat here. I know it’ll be our best meal of our 2 week trip!! - thanks! I hope we’ll be back!

Absolutely one of the best restaurants in Spain, and that’s a high compliment. We had the tasting menu, only €33 each. Five courses and all delicious. Locally sourced. Everything was from Extremadura. Special mention of the pork with three different mustards, and the foie and beef carpaccio. Also, the owners Francisco and Ana are lovely people and serve you themselves and happily describe what you’re eating. One of our very best eating experiences ever in Spain.

This is a lovely restaurant very near to the Plaza Mayor. The staff were very nice and extremely helpful when discussing the menu. We were offered the tasting menu which looked like fun, but we went for the a la carte as we are not always big eaters. We worked with the recommendations from the very pleasant waiter and had a great covert with fantastic artisan bread, super olive oil, sheep's butter and a tomato soup. Then we had the guinea fowl pate which was delicious. The tuna carpaccio with a chickpea pure hit the spot and this was followed by corvina in a lovely pea sauce. Too full after all that to try the desert unfortunately, but hope to be able to do that when we visit again. I am already looking forward to our next visit.

We had a pre-arranged set menu. The first course was black rice, which was very good. I had to take the entrecote to go, as the portion of black rice was quite substantial. We ordered a decent wine, plenty of beer, and it wasn't expensive. I'll definitely be back.

Highly recommended.
We arrived around 3:30 pm, drawn by the great reviews, and it was a great choice.
To begin with, they served us despite the kitchen closing time, and with excellent service, something that doesn't usually happen these days at that hour. The food was fantastic. Everything was homemade, with a set menu of three starters and three main courses for €12. For starters, we had a variety of appetizers accompanied by croquettes and calamari, and for the main course, braised pork cheeks with potatoes, which I couldn't finish because of the portion size. I took the rest in a Tupperware container for dinner.
In short, I'll definitely be back, because the quality and price exceeded my expectations.

A place you won't forget because of the amazing food and the fantastic service. Classic fare at a fantastic price. We discovered it today and will definitely be back.
Ainhoa Con H★★★★★
It's the ideal place for any plan you can think of: hosting an event, having lunch with your partner, enjoying drinks with friends, dinner with the family, etc.
Not only because of its great location, with easy parking and a park right next door (perfect for a drink while the kids play), but also because of the spaciousness of the place (it has a large terrace and dining room), the quality/price ratio of its menu, and the superb service from the owners and waiters (being served with a big smile and good conversation is priceless).
When you go, I recommend any of the chef's meat stews (like the ones with the lean meat, sirloin, etc.) and traditional dishes (snails, paella, etc.), although you'll enjoy anything on the menu since the ingredients are excellent.
But be warned ⚠️ the portions are huge (and very affordable), so you might end up taking some home with you 🤣 although that always comes in handy at home.
In short, I've already been three times and we're planning to keep going. We need to keep trying more things on the menu.

We went to Achiperre drawn by its excellent reviews, and the truth is, the experience exceeded our expectations.
We arrived early and were able to choose a table in a quiet area of the dining room. From the very first moment, José—chef and partner—served us with warmth and professionalism, explaining the menu and guiding us with excellent recommendations, even adjusting portion sizes to ensure a perfect experience.
We decided to let ourselves be guided and enjoy a sort of tasting menu, and it was a great choice. The cuisine is original, with a very interesting twist on familiar recipes, where both the presentation and the interplay of flavors and textures stand out. It's clear that the menu is well thought out and full of personality.
Special mention for the desserts: their cheesecake is simply spectacular, and the wine pairing perfectly rounded off a memorable meal.
We were also impressed by their sensitivity to the ingredients and, in particular, their approach to cheese, working with a carefully curated and dynamic selection that encourages further exploration.
Furthermore, there's a noticeable open and flexible attitude, which is especially appreciated these days, and it greatly enhances the overall experience.
It's a very recent project—they've only been running for a month—but it has a very solid foundation and a long road ahead. We will definitely return on our next visit to Cáceres.

Last night we went to Achiperre for dinner. The place is cozy, the staff very attentive and friendly; they greet you warmly, show you to your table, and invite you to look at the menu. While you browse it, you order your drinks, and another waiter comes over to explain the menu and suggest dishes and off-menu options based on your preferences.
There were two of us for dinner, and we ordered potato salad, two citrus scallops and two Iberian scallops, Iberian pork carpaccio, and pork ribs, accompanied by several glasses of Verdejo wine. For dessert, we had a floreta (a type of pastry) and a dulce de leche mille-feuille.
The presentation of the dishes and the explanations from the waiters helped you understand what you were going to eat and generated expectations that, when you tasted the dishes, turned into a sensory experience. Everything was simply SPECTACULAR. This is our third visit to the restaurant, and it doesn't disappoint at all. Highly recommended.

What a wonderful dining experience from start to finish. This restaurant is such a great little gem in the area — cozy atmosphere, warm staff, and absolutely delicious food. We ordered two appetizers and the fish as our main course, and every dish was beautifully presented and full of flavor. The ingredients were fresh, perfectly seasoned, and thoughtfully balanced.
The service was top-notch — attentive without being intrusive. We were especially impressed by Carils and Lorenzo, who went above and beyond to make sure everything was perfect. They were friendly, professional, and genuinely cared about creating a great experience for their guests.
It’s rare to find a place that nails both the food and the service like this one does. We’ll definitely be coming back and recommending it to friends. Highly, highly recommended!

Amazing service with tasty food but some room for improvement. For example, the croquetas’ filling was very well done but it lacked some taste. I could not notice the walnuts inside the carrot cake and to my taste, the dough lacked spices such as cinnamon. The cream in the cake was really good and the dough very spongy. The pluma ibérica was DELICIOUS and the partridge salad fresh and tasty.

Incredible!!!
The views on the Plaza Mayor, the hyper attentive and friendly service, the spectacular cuisine & it's high-quality, fresh ingredients, as well as the unusual, but delicious combinations all made this place our very favourite stop during our 10day trip to Spain. We'd give them 10 stars if possible - from start to finish, eating here was absolute perfection.
In addition, the place is rather small, which renders the ambiance quiet and personal (but makes it almost mandatory to reserve in advance!).
We'd also like to call out their fantastic wine selection, which paired their dishes perfectly: We had a Tuna Tataki, a Tomato Tartar with local cheese, their version of Beef Wellington, as well as a truffle pasta dish, paired with a bottle of Red wine that complimented all of the above dishes.
All together, we paid roughly 100EUR - absolutely fair & well worth the dinner.
We would not hesitate to come back here!!

We had quite high expectations as we joined a small group of friends from various countries for a special birthday lunch, but the place blew our minds, both in terms of food (as we had so many delicious shared dishes paired with a series of regional white, rosé and red wines), the outstanding quality/price relation and the attentive and caring service in a very relaxed ambiance.
We absolutely loved it and will be back.

I have been living in Spain for about 3 years and I am starting to identify and appreciate high quality Spanish food and wine. My meal at this restaurant was, without question, one of the best I've had in Spain so far. Each of my dishes (enslada de perdiz, jabalí a las guindas and biscuit de higo) were creative, beautifully presented and delicious. The quality of the food was very well matched by good quality wine by the glass and excellent customer service. I gave the restaurant 4 out of 5 stars for atmosphere only because I went when it opened at 8:30pm, and for about 30mins I was the only customer there! It was full and very lively after about 9:30pm. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting Cáceres.

We looked at the menu during the day when it was closed and decided to give it a try. We were encouraged to sit in the the outside area but this was over the road and we liked the look of the small bar area. I think this went against us as we were ignored for a while as the two waitresses came and went from the terrace. Eventually we ordered a bottle of wine, 1 migas and one pork dish to share. Everything was OK and the bill came to 42 euros.

Stumbled across the place following signage and recommendation from the near by local food store (where we subsequently spent €70 on cheese, oil and pimentón, as it was that good!). Initially sat down just to enjoy a beer but the food looked so good, after the third plate of torta del casar went past, we had to order one! How can cheese and bread taste so good! We had ordered migas extremeñas to follow, but the waitress politely asked if we still wanted it, and she was right, we were full. We will return this evening though to finish what we started!! Highly recommended locally run bar, just off the main drag, so avoiding the tourist traps.
We did return, and are very glad we did to enjoy the migas!

We had a lovely dinner here last night. It was busy but we waited a few minutes and were seated on the terrace, up from the restaurant - a nice setting. Fantastic, hearty and traditional Extremaduran food, big portions. Service was efficient and friendly. Out best meal in Cácares (and good value, too). I thoroughly recommend this restaurant - thank you for a great dinner

We chose this place mainly to try the cheese plate. There were five different kinds of cheese with quince paste. It was good to try some of the famous Torta del Casar in this plate, but our favorite was definitely the goat cheese. In addition, we tried the tomato salad which was incredibly flavorful. Portions are big so this was enough to have dinner for two people.

We booked as the reviews on Google were good (4.4) compared to others in the area. The restaurant was dirty and the food was average at best - I had the conchillon with soggy potatoes and my husband the chuleton that was not worth the price. But what was most off putting was there were a group of teenagers drinking and vaping in the children’s play area, who were obviously related to the staff at the restaurant. It was noisy, with the youngsters leaving the play area and wandering around getting chairs and walking barefoot - really odd that staff didn’t find this unacceptable! We didn’t even finish our food and just left. Sadly one of the worst meals we’ve ever had and it cost us almost €100!

The place is filthy, really dirty. The food is average/bad. The staff is nice and it does have a playground for kids but it does not meet any sort of hygienic standards. Expensive for the quality. The housewine was non drinkable.

Slightly disappointing. Food seemed quite generic and somewhat bland. Not that much choice on the day we visited. Prices weren't bad for the town, but the quality could have been better. Service was good.

We stopped by because we stayed nearby and ended up going twice. Caceres is a very touristy town and we were a bit worried with overall food quality for the restaurants there, however we were happy with our meals here. Overall rating 4.25
The first time was for dinner, we ordered a la carte. The portions for the entrees were all decent-sized for the price. The risotto rice had mushrooms and was a decent portion but it was too salty. The beef tajin was a Moroccan beef stew served with couscous. It was presented beautifully and the flavors were great but the meat was a tad too dry. The Solomillo beef served with goat cheese was tender, moist and delicious. Iberico pork chops were also very good. We sat outdoors and it was very pleasant with the cool breeze. Perfect for the evening. Tables were all on a slope but somehow they were able to keep it level. Unfortunately, the chairs did not do the same thing so it felt a bit odd. The red wine we ordered was from the region and lovely. Service was friendly and efficient. Overall, we enjoyed our meal and decided to return for lunch. 4 stars for dinner.
The second experience was for menu del dia lunch. We sat inside because it was too hot outside and not much shade for the tables left. At 18.90 euros pp it included an appetizer, main, dessert, 1 piece of bread, 1 cup of beverage (wine, beer, water or soft drink). Wine pour was generous. The portions were good for the price. For appetizers we had were: the mushroom risotto, which was very good this time and seasoned perfectly. Miga with paprika. It had sausage flavoring but no sausages in the dish. The chicken salad was delicious, it had fried breaded chicken "nuggets: over a bed of greens. For the mains we ordered pork knuckles with potatoes. This was the best entrée. The pork was tender, fall-off-the-bone moist, and not fatty. The potatoes that accompanied several of the dishes were delicious. Grilled pork tenderloin was pan-fried. They were as expected. The cod with eggs and potatoes wasn't what I thought it would be. It was pretty much a scrambled egg. A disappointment for me. One of the dishes delivered was wrong but we didn't bother to correct it since we were perfectly happy with the mix-up dish that arrived. Dessert was good. Coffee was an espresso. For the people with smaller appetites, we had to pack away some food which the staff kindly obliged. It was packed very well and still delicious when we ate it for dinner that night. Service was friendly and efficient. The aircon at the table we sat at was a tad too strong for me. We enjoyed the food at lunch. 4.5 stars for lunch.

A good restaurant near Plaza Mayor. Outside terrace and also inside a lot of tables. Staff was friendly and worked hard. Menu is in Spanish.
We took tuna teriyaki which was very soft and delicious and ad a second dish nachos with ham.
For dessert a brownie surprise, see the pictures and a Rubic's cube. The last one is now in our top ten most special desserts.
Would fully recommend eating here.

Best restaurant in caceres. No rip off like all the other tourist traps... They provide awesome food quality + reasonable prices. Try the lunch menu with starter, main and dessert for 15.90 euros! Absolutely visiting again! Try also the mousse au chocolate

I really don’t understand why this restaurant can get more than 4+ score, I ordered 2 dishes, one risotto which is good , the other is pork meal but over-cooked and salt was accumulated on one end and the other is not salty at all. This is purely a restaurant for tourists! Not recommend for any gourmet!
Tips for Choosing a Traditional Restaurant in Cáceres
The difference between a forgettable meal and an unforgettable one in Cáceres often comes down to a few simple habits. These tips will help you navigate menus, timing, and local customs so you can eat as well as the locals do.
Look for seasonal set menus. Many of Cáceres’ best traditional restaurants offer a menú del día at lunch, which usually includes two courses, bread, a drink, and dessert or coffee. These menus are often where kitchens showcase their freshest seasonal ingredients at a fraction of the à la carte price.
Order Torta del Casar correctly. This creamy sheep’s milk cheese from nearby Casar de Cáceres should be served at room temperature with its top rind removed, ready to be scooped with bread or a spoon. If a restaurant serves it cold and hard, send it back or order something else.
Embrace the spoon dishes. Cáceres excels at guisos, potajes, and cocidos that are slow-cooked for hours. Even in warmer months, a well-made sopa de tomate or caldereta de cordero is worth ordering. These dishes are the true test of a traditional kitchen.
Check for Iberian pork certification. If you see “ibérico de bellota” on the menu, it means the pork comes from acorn-fed, free-range Iberian pigs. This is the highest quality category and worth the premium. For cured meats, ask if the jamón is sliced to order rather than pre-cut.
Reserve ahead for weekend dining. The most respected traditional restaurants in the old town fill up quickly, especially on Friday and Saturday nights. A quick phone call or WhatsApp message in Spanish can save you from settling for a lower-quality tourist alternative.
Cáceres remains one of Spain’s most rewarding destinations for eaters who value substance over spectacle. The restaurants that have lasted here did not survive by chasing trends but by honoring the land, the livestock, and the recipes that define Extremadura. A meal in one of these dining rooms is a direct connection to the pastures, olive groves, and family kitchens that surround the city.
Take your time, order dishes you cannot easily find elsewhere, and let the slow rhythm of the city guide your table. In Cáceres, the best travel memories are often made with a spoon in one hand and a glass of local red wine in the other.
