Cadaqués has long held a magnetic pull for artists, writers, and dreamers drawn to its whitewashed facades and crystalline Mediterranean light. Unlike the bustling resorts further down the Costa Brava, this fishing village has fiercely protected its bohemian soul and architectural authenticity. Wandering its narrow, stone-paved streets feels less like shopping and more like exploring a living gallery where every corner reveals a new creative expression.
The retail landscape here is refreshingly devoid of generic souvenir chains and mass-produced trinkets. Instead, you will find a tight-knit community of artisans who pour their passion for the sea, the landscape, and local tradition into their work. These are the keepers of the village’s creative flame, offering objects that carry the essence of the Cap de Creus peninsula.
For the discerning traveler, bringing home a piece of Cadaqués means seeking out these independent workshops and boutiques. It is about finding a hand-thrown ceramic glazed in the exact blue of the bay or a piece of jewelry inspired by the jagged rocks of the coastline. These items serve as tactile memories, far more evocative than a standard postcard.
Shopping locally here is also an act of preservation. By purchasing directly from the makers, you are supporting a fragile ecosystem of craftsmanship that has survived against the odds of modern commercialism. You are helping to ensure that the village remains a sanctuary for artists, not just a picturesque backdrop for summer tourism.
The best artisan shops are often tucked away in unassuming alleys or overlooking quiet plazas, rewarding those who wander without a strict itinerary. The owners are usually present, eager to share the story behind their craft, the source of their materials, or the inspiration for a particular collection. This personal connection transforms a simple transaction into a meaningful cultural exchange.
This guide is curated for those who value provenance, quality, and the human hand behind the object. We have walked the labyrinthine streets, spoken with the makers, and examined the craftsmanship to bring you a selection of the most authentic retail experiences the village has to offer. Each entry represents a distinct facet of Cadaqués’ unique creative identity.
Whether you are searching for a functional piece of art for your home, a one-of-a-kind gift, or simply a beautiful reminder of the Mediterranean, this list will point you in the right direction. Prepare to be inspired by the skill and passion that thrives in this remote corner of Spain.

Owner was exceptionally rude and the staff packaged the items minimally and carelessly despite my request for extra wrapping to prevent breakage. The item broke, so I called to see if I could order and pay for replacements, and the owner was unacceptably rude. They didn’t deserve my business!

Don't miss this little gem! The ceramics in this store are lovely and they range from affordable to more expensive. We were looking for something in the affordable range but also a little unique....and we found it. The staff is wonderful plus they really wrapped our purchase well - so it will make the journey to Canada. Stop in and check them out. They are tucked away, but a great find!

While on holiday in Cadaques in June, we were enchanted not only by the beauty of the willage but also by the wonderful ceramics in the Clara Saló shop! We went to admire it every day and bought a few things. After returning to Prague, I ordered more wonderful things through their e-shop. I would like to thank Clara Saló for the very nice communication and high professionalism from the beginning of the order to the delivery of the goods - everything, including logistics, the solution of the situation that arose, was quick and perfect. We are very happy with the wonderful ceramics at home, we use it, our friends also admire it! Thank you very much for the warm memories from Cadaques and it will be our pleasure to return to you ❤️ With love, Maria and Pavel

I love ceramics and couldn't resist going in when I saw the pieces outside, even though I was short on time.
If you like quality ceramics, with classic designs (like those from Granada) or modern ones (plates with various marine designs), or simply a small, high-quality souvenir, this is the shop for you. They have a wide selection.
Prices are high, but the products are handcrafted. This needs to be valued if we don't want our traditional crafts to disappear. A very good selection. 👍✨

Hello, I'm sharing my experience so it doesn't happen to anyone else. On April 19, 2025, I bought a mirror from SA BOTIGA in Cadaqués. The mirror didn't fit properly, so I called the store to see if I could return it. The owner told me they didn't accept returns but that I should come to the store to discuss it.
I went to the store with the mirror, which measures 150 x 60 cm². The store is in the center of Cadaqués, and it's very difficult to drive right up to it. They helped me get it there.
When I entered the store and the owner saw me, she said, "I'm not going to exchange it."
I replied that she could have been clear from the beginning and not told me to come down to the store to talk to her. Since I was already there, I asked if she could give me a voucher or if we could discuss it, and she replied, "I don't want to waste any more time on the mirror." And I ask myself, "What about all the time you made me waste? Did I go downstairs with the mirror for nothing?"
Anyway, I went back with the mirror, wondering how someone who deals with the public can be so unclear and uncooperative. It's important not only to make good sales and treat customers well while they're shopping, but also to have good after-sales service.
This store lacks after-sales service.

I replied that she could have been clear from the beginning and not told me to come to the store to talk to her. Since I was already there, I asked if she could give me a store credit or if we could discuss it, and she answered, “I don't want to waste more time on the mirror.” And I wonder, "What about the time you made me waste? So, I left with the mirror, wondering how someone working in customer service could be so unclear and not straightforward. It's important not only to make good sales and treat customers well during the purchase, but also to provide good after-sales service.

We went shopping in this store yesterday and were quite disappointed afterward. Outside the door, there was a rack of flip-flops. According to the price tags, a pair should have cost €11.95 and two pairs €18.95. However, the flip-flops we chose were marked €16.95 because they were gold-colored. The saleswoman claimed they were a different, better brand. My wife wore them for the first time today, and after just 10 minutes, the gold color was already coming off. They're probably from China and simply painted over! It's sad that you can get ripped off even in a Spanish store! Misleading pricing and terrible quality! You can get Chinese-made flip-flops at the market too, but at least the color doesn't come off there.
Maria José Dímar★☆☆☆☆
0.75 cents...that's the price a shopkeeper, for no reason at all, makes a fool of herself.
I went into Can Batlle to buy several gift items during my visit to Cadaqués, which totaled €24.55.
They wrapped some of the items I had for me without any problem and at no extra cost. I should add that they were very small things (2) that didn't use much paper (bars of soap).
At midday, on my way back to the parking lot, we passed by the shop again, and I realized I still needed to buy more things, so I went back in to buy them. I asked them to wrap two bars of soap as gifts, and when I realized they were busy, I told the woman, who seemed to be the owner, not to waste her time and that if she wanted, she could just put the small piece of wrapping paper in the bag, and I would wrap it myself when I got home. She gives me the small piece of gift wrap (approximately 30 cm x 30 cm) and I put it in my bag. I pay the €16.55 total by card, and she asks if I want a receipt or a copy of the payment. I say yes and leave the store. Once outside, I stop to check the bill and see that she's overcharged me by €0.75. I go back into the store and ask her what the extra charge is for. She says it's for the small piece of gift wrap she gave me. Stunned and surprised, I tell her that they hadn't charged me for it on my previous purchase. And that, if they charged for the wrap, she should have told me. She looks at me, speechless, unsure what to say, and I give her back the wrap... and tell her that it was wrong, very wrong of her to treat a customer like that. It's not right to skim money from customers' receipts... And then, without a word, she gave me back the 0.75 cents.
On a purchase of almost €42, acting like that is shameful... It's not about the 75 cents, of course, but about the way she acted.
It really bothered me.
I certainly won't be going back, and to those of you who do, double-check your bill before leaving.
P.S. I've explained exactly what happened. (And I've kept the receipts).
Tim★★★☆☆
An employee stood 15cm away from me for 10 minutes, staring at me while I tried on fake Adidas slides that cost €10. He seemed to find my fitting hilarious, laughing with every new pair I tried. Extremely awkward.
Teresa Plaza de Giles★☆☆☆☆
Without a doubt, the worst experience I've ever had in a bazaar. We made a purchase of 70 euros worth of various things we needed for the apartment, including a knife that we didn't even unpack because we immediately realized it wasn't what we were looking for. The next day, we went to return it and were very rudely told that they weren't giving refunds due to Covid, even though there wasn't a sign warning of this. Oddly enough, there were two people next to me without masks, and no one asked them to put them on. Only when I asked for a complaint form did they agree to process the refund. And then they decided to "punish" me by making me wait, claiming they were very busy, probably convinced I'd eventually get fed up and leave. But I stayed, so they resorted to insulting and intimidating me, both the owner and the employees, in front of the other customers. When I finally got my money back, the owner yelled at me not to even think about coming back because he wouldn't let me in, and he followed me from the till to the door to make it even more humiliating. By the way, the Cadaqués police should know that this man boasts about having their blessing to treat customers this way. I absolutely do not recommend it.
Essential Tips for Shopping at Artisan Stores in Cadaqués
To make the most of your time and ensure you find truly authentic pieces, it helps to understand the rhythm and character of local commerce. The way you shop here can greatly enhance your experience and the value of the treasures you find. Keep the following points in mind as you explore the village’s creative offerings.
1. Respect the Siesta and Local Hours
The rhythm of life in Cadaqués is dictated by the sun and the sea, not by a 24/7 retail clock. Most artisan workshops and boutiques close for a long lunch break, typically from around 1:30 PM to 5:00 PM. Plan your shopping excursions for the late morning or early evening when the light is golden and the shopkeepers are back at their benches.
2. Bring Cash for Smaller Purchases
While many established galleries and boutiques now accept credit cards, some smaller workshops and independent makers still prefer cash. Having euros on hand can also give you a slight advantage when negotiating a price for a larger item or paying for a small, delicate piece that the artist is selling directly.
3. Ask About the Creative Process
The true value of an artisan object lies in its story. Don’t be shy about asking the maker how a piece was created, where the clay was sourced, or what inspired a particular painting. Most artisans in Cadaqués are passionate about their work and will be delighted to explain their techniques, turning your purchase into a memorable interaction.
4. Look for Local Materials and Motifs
To ensure you are buying something genuinely of this place, look for pieces that incorporate local elements. This could be ceramics glazed with the specific mineral pigments of the region, jewelry shaped like the local "tramuntana" wind, or textiles dyed with natural colors. Avoid items that could be found in any tourist shop along the coast.
5. Consider the Logistics of Transport
Before falling in love with a large ceramic vase or a heavy sculpture, think about how you will get it home. While many shops offer professional shipping services for international buyers, this can be costly. If you are traveling with limited luggage, focus on smaller, more portable treasures like jewelry, prints, or lightweight textiles.
6. Be Mindful of the Season
Cadaqués has two distinct seasons. In the high summer months, shops stay open later into the night, and the streets are vibrant. In the quieter winter months, some smaller artisan workshops may close entirely or operate on reduced hours. If your heart is set on visiting a specific maker, it is wise to check their social media for current opening times before making a special trip.
The act of purchasing an artisan piece in Cadaqués connects you directly to the village’s enduring artistic legacy. It is a conscious choice to value the slow, deliberate work of human hands over the speed of industrial production. The object you carry home will hold the scent of the sea, the warmth of the sun, and the spirit of the artist who made it.
As you leave the whitewashed streets behind, your chosen keepsakes will serve as a daily reminder of this extraordinary place. They are more than mere souvenirs; they are fragments of a dream, tangible proof of the beauty that happens when nature and creativity collide.
