12 Best Bakeries in Annecy

Nestled against the shimmering shores of Lake Annecy and framed by the French Alps, the “Venice of the Alps” is a sensory feast. While most visitors come for the turquoise water and medieval architecture, the true heartbeat of this Savoyard town is often found behind the glass counters of its local boulangeries and pâtisseries. The scent of melting butter, caramelizing sugar, and freshly ground coffee spills out onto the cobblestone lanes, inviting you to slow down and indulge.

The French relationship with bread and pastry is sacred, and Annecy elevates this tradition with a distinct Alpine flair. Here, classic French techniques meet regional ingredients like hazelnuts from Piedmont, wild blueberries from the Bauges mountains, and rich, creamy butter from the surrounding pastures. Whether you are looking for a flaky croissant to start your day or an elaborate entremet to celebrate an occasion, the local scene is fiercely competitive and exceptionally high quality.

Choosing where to spend your calories in a town this charming can be overwhelming. The main thoroughfares are lined with tourist traps serving mass-produced goods, but the real gems require a bit of local knowledge. The difference between a good bakery and a great one in Annecy often comes down to the fermentation of the dough, the provenance of the chocolate, and the patience of the baker.

In this guide, we have curated a list of the most essential bakeries in the city, focusing on artisans who prioritize craftsmanship over convenience. We have evaluated them based on the flakiness of their viennoiserie, the crumb structure of their sourdough, the creativity of their pastry chefs, and the warmth of their service. These are places where bakers arrive before dawn to hand-shape loaves and where pastries are treated as edible art.

From the historic center to the quieter residential neighborhoods, these addresses represent the pinnacle of baking in Haute-Savoie. You will find traditional wood-fired breads, modern minimalist pastries, and everything in between. Prepare to queue with the locals, practice your French, and discover why bread is not just food here—it is a cultural institution.

Whether you are planning a picnic by the lake or a cozy breakfast in a mountain chalet, the right bakery can transform your trip. Let this list serve as your roadmap to the best ovens in town, ensuring that every bite you take in Annecy is as memorable as the views.

I’ve had my fair share of almond croissants over the years and my god, this was the absolute BEST almond croissant I’ve ever had. It really saddens me that I may never experience another one that comes close to how good this was. I wish I lived in Annecy just for this almond croissant. (Also had the best regular croissant I’ve ever had too but the almond one was just astounding)

My daughter and I travel differently. It’s not due to her personality. It’s a generational thing. The modern traveler would have uncovered this gluten gold mine from the comfy confines of their mother country months earlier. They would have added pins to a curated map of Annecy and very smartly their phones would lead them to the promisland. I, on the other hand am an old school rambler - a wanderer. I’m looking for things off the well beaten track - I’m searching for the authentic. Sadly, my prehistoric way of traveling has had its consequences. I have, over the years eaten a significant amount of bad bread, viennoise, and pastry. But….every once in a while my strange bumbling treasure hunt pays off like a Las Vegas slot machine. This is EXACTLY what happened in Annecy. All it took was a quick glance through the window - I believe I heard angel’s trumpets. One step through the door and I realized that my search for the best bakery in France or world for that matter was over. They had it all….real bakers really working! They were a repository of very serious bread…2+ kg loaves of dark and broody pain de campagne, croissants that were laminated to levels previously undescovered and for me….the best pastry in all of France - the canalé de Bordeaux. I bonjoured, I pointed, I used my horrible high school French (je suis désolée!) and what took place on a bench by the stream outside was just a blur. All were in a word….just astounding…ok, two words. Merci, from the bottom of my heart and stomach for your passion. You should all be very proud of yourselves.

Great bread, great pastry… the queue in the morning speaks for itself. Try it out, you will be not disappointed!

Found this place looking for a bakery. It took a few days to try the place. Everything is made fresh right here in front of you. The bread is very heavy compared to other breads. The taste is very good. We tried the focaccia bread and one other loaf. The taste and quality is for sure great. A good place to try. The bread is on the pricier side but the quality is there.
hello there★★★★★
The croissant is sooo good!!! It’s crispy on the outside with so many flaky layers and soft on the inside. Something that makes this croissant special is the taste. There’s a subtle sweetness and I think they added something to the flour which makes it taste different?? I can’t discern the taste but I love it. I also tried a slice of their bread which was sourdough and lovely.

Just the franchise bakery so most of pastries are really stale and sad

Absolutely brilliant local bakery. Fortunately we were staying near by so could visit every day during our stay and everything we had from breads to pastries to cakes were excellent.
Andrea Motschenbacher★★★★★
We found this little bakery while visiting Annecy and fell in love with it! We waited for them to open early on our first morning, as we were a little off time-wise due to travel from Los Angeles. The smell outside the bakery was intoxicating, and it was well worth the wait. The strawberry-rhubarb pastry, croissants, and filled pastries were all amazing. We tried many different bakeries in the week we were there, but we always came back to Le Comptoir. Best bakery in France!
Charlotte Wink★★★★★
Their sourdough breads were really yummy! Crispy on the outside and soft on the inside - the way sourdough should be 😍 we ate most of the bread in 1 day! Service was excellent, the owner (I believe) was super sweet when he knew that we were travellers and I am a sourdough baker - he shown us around his bakery. Love the experience! Thank you for our last day in Annecy so memorable! 🌟

We bought so many things! The focaccia was definitely delicious and what we recommend the most. The one with black olives and the one with dried tomatoes. We also got a thin bread with curry flavor and seeds. It was ok. Among the sweet options, we chose the banana cake and the lemon cake with seeds. The banana cake is very intense in flavor and includes chocolate bits. Highly recommended! Very price but worth it. I wish they had tables to sit and order.
Timo★★★★★
First time in Annecy on a trip and it was the first boulangerie that my friend and I decided on. The girl who served me was incredibly friendly and helped me choose the pastry. The recommendation was delicious, so I would recommend the Patchwork (sth like a croissant with a caramelized top) and the brioche aux pralines. I would definitely recommend this place.
Chris A★★★★★
Bought a pain au chocolat, a vanilla pecan tart, tomato and cheese foccacia and 2 cookies (classique & chocolat) and they all are SO good. They do not skimp on the chocolate inside the cookies, and they are not so sweet, which makes them very yummy. I will be thinking about these cookies when I am back to work. ❤️ The tart is very creamy, light at the same time. The foccacia is filling, crunchy outside and soft inside. Love everything. Thank you!
Aarón Gómez Figueroa★★★★★
My big sourdough loaf lasted two weeks thanks to it's great quality without loosing it's flavor and aroma. The rolled croissant is an amazing must! Great flour selection for their loaf assortment.
Anmoldeep Kaur★★☆☆☆
I normally don’t like giving negative reviews but the honey chorizo cheese focaccia I had was burnt to a crisp and extremely salty. I was really disappointed with my purchase. Only reason I’m giving 2 stars is because the staff is very friendly.

This bakery was a delightful find that is evidently well-loved by locals. They kindly engaged me in English (as I don’t speak French), and the bakes are the best that I have enjoyed in this country. There isn’t space to eat in the bakery, but there is a park just nearby which is great to picnic in. Will definitely visit again when I visit Annecy in the future.

So far the best croissant in France. A beautiful pastry plave in Annecy. Had our breakfast there the whole stay and their dessert is not any less in quality.
john carr★★★★★
Excellent. But don't be put off by the queues! By the way, this is a bakery in the European sense. So it's where bread is baked and sold, not a café. If you turn up expecting to sit and drink coffee/eat pastries, you'll be disappointed.
Laura C★★★★★
I didn’t realize I finished the baguette sandwich until it was gone. They might get your order wrong (pardon my lack of french), but anything you wind up getting will be a happy accident. 10/10 boulangerie!

Honestly this is the best boulangerie and patisserie in annecy. Their venoissarie is without fault and their patisseries are incredible. Comparable with any where in Paris. Truly exceptional

Quaint pastry shop off the beaten path. Staff very friendly and speak English. Only 1 table outside, but next to several parks Got their apricot-peach tart, which had a soggy bottom and unfortunately split down the bottom. Sides were good Card & cash both work

Superb bread, croissants, pains aux raisin and pains aux chocolat. I wished it would have been open on Sunday as well since we ate everything up in a day. Great quality of all of their products - recommend heavily to everyone who visits Annecy.
Nick V★★★★★
The best bakery and patisserie in Annecy! Their eclairs, tarts, flans, millefeuille are second to none! Enjoy their bakery too, viennoiseries are bread are to die for.
Ashish Pradhan★★★★★
Lovely bakery. The owner was very friendly and helpful and even gave us a matcha flan to try which was very tasty. Must visit.
Libby Wales★★★★★
Stopped by to pick something up for an early dinner as none of the restaurants nearby were open yet. This little gem was open late, had a petis pois quiche and some delicious pastries. The flan and caramel nut tart were both delicious, as were the generous slices of quiche. And a lovely lady serving too, thanks!

Incredible good flavor ! Must try!!!! I tried the peanut butter one, I think the others are also very good! 😊 well done!

The mango trompe l'oeil is really unbalanced; not bad, but not good either. Too many people don't master trompe l'oeil. Stick to what you know; it's better. The biscuit is too thick, not enough fruit. What a shame.
Biba40000★★☆☆☆
Disappointment with the pastries. As is too often the case in Annecy, the prices are high, but the quality and skill are lacking! It might be acceptable for tourists passing through, but it won't bring back the locals... They lack freshness, are dry, and crusty. The cheesecake is absolutely not a cheesecake! It's set with gelatin... dense in the mouth... the coulis is dry! The biscuit base is too sweet. The lemon tart is completely unbalanced, with too much meringue, an overly sweet lemon cream that doesn't contrast with the acidity of the mediocre lemon, and a tasteless tart shell... For just one euro more, you can find much better elsewhere in the city center.
Mayd★★☆☆☆
I went to this bakery this morning. It was already very hot, and the inside was also stifling. We bought a pastry for about €7, but because of the heat, I couldn't even really appreciate the taste. We went outside to sit, but there were very few seats available.
Sabrina L★★★★★
I treat myself at least once a week at this bakery; the pastries are delicious and original, and the breads are very good too. My son loves the pastries and cookies. The service is friendly and the prices are more than reasonable considering the quality.

This busy bakery in a touristy area is cranking out some quality pastries. They have so many great pastry and bread options, but I settled on the raspberry cube croissant. It was perfectly flaky on the outside and the filling was full of raspberry flavor without being too sweet. The prices are a bit higher here, but definitely worth a visit if you're in the area.

Top 3 pastries I have had this year!!! The croissant/pain au chocolate filled with hazelnut was the bomb. Warm, soft, flaky, buttery… heaven!! They also have XXL croissants for 3€ and normal ones for less than 1.5€. Definitely recommend

This shop used to be my favorite bakery in Annecy However I don’t know what happened… Most of the pastries here have become so rough and sad….they are not made with love anymore.. Rough dough and cream So soggy between those ingredients

Hands down THE best bakery in Annecy. You HAVE to visit this bakery while in town. We ended up getting 6 things! The croissant and almond croissant was delicious, as well as the Mont Blanc. The service was really nice and the lady at the cashier was so sweet!

There are places that simply sell bread… and there are places that leave a lasting impression. This artisan bakery has become, without question, our absolute favorite — for me and my family. From the very first moment, you can feel the difference. The quality of the products speaks of true craftsmanship, precision, and respect for the art of baking. But what truly elevates this place beyond excellence… is the person behind the counter. A gentleman of remarkable kindness, genuine warmth, and refined manners — the kind of character that reflects the soul of the place itself. In a world where quality is often claimed, here… it is quietly lived. This is not just a bakery. It is an experience of taste, character, and authenticity. Our sincere appreciation also goes to the wonderful staff, especially the ladies whose elegance, kindness, and respectful service made this visit even more memorable. You will not be forgotten. Even upon our return to our home country, the United Arab Emirates, we will certainly recommend your bakery to our family and friends. With sincere appreciation — we will always return. Sadly nothing special about the raspberry bread or canele… maybe I ordered the wrong products. I’d say Starbucks did a better job than this bakery. Takeout only, no seating.

Essential Tips for Enjoying Annecy’s Bakeries

To truly experience the local bakery culture like a resident rather than a tourist, a little bit of preparation goes a long way. The rhythm of a French bakery is precise, and knowing when to go and what to ask for will significantly elevate the quality of your experience. Here is how to navigate the pastry scene with confidence and taste the very best these artisans have to offer.

Go early for the best selection. The French buy their bread fresh daily, often twice a day. By mid-morning, the most popular pastries and specialty loaves are frequently sold out. Arrive between 7:00 AM and 9:00 AM to see the shelves fully stocked and to catch the bread while it is still warm from the oven.

Ask for a "Tradition." If you are buying a baguette, always ask for a baguette de tradition. French law dictates that this specific baguette can only contain flour, water, salt, and yeast—no additives or frozen dough. It is the best indicator of a baker’s true skill and will have a deeper flavor and crispier crust than a standard baguette.

Don’t skip the savory options. While the sweets are beautiful, the savory side of the counter is often where the real local flavor hides. Look for pissaladière (an onion tart with anchovies and olives) or fougasse with bacon and cheese. These make for a perfect, affordable lunch to enjoy by the lake.

Bring cash and a reusable bag. While most modern bakeries in Annecy accept credit cards, small purchases are often easier and faster with a few coins. Additionally, bringing your own cloth bag helps reduce waste and makes carrying those delicate pastries and crusty loaves much safer as you walk through the old town.

Look for "Fait Maison" and Artisan signs. Many storefronts sell industrial pastries that are baked on-site but made in a factory. Look for the words Artisan Boulanger or Fait Maison (homemade) in the window. This certification guarantees that the dough was kneaded, shaped, and baked on the premises, ensuring the freshness and quality you came for.

The beauty of exploring Annecy is that the journey between bakeries is just as delightful as the food itself. As you walk from one artisan to the next, you will cross canals, pass under stone archways, and hear the distant chime of church bells. Take your time, buy one item from several different shops, and compare the subtle differences in texture and taste—it is the best way to find your personal favorite.

By the end of your stay, you will likely have a favorite croissant, a preferred sourdough loaf, and a deep appreciation for the craft that goes into French baking. These bakeries are not just places to buy food; they are the living, breathing soul of the community, and they are waiting to welcome you.
