Strasbourg manages to feel both grand and intimate at the same time. It is the formal seat of the European Parliament, yet its heart belongs to the half-timbered houses and winding canals of Petite France. Visitors come for the soaring Gothic cathedral, the world-famous Christmas markets, and the distinct Alsatian blend of French and German culture.
A trip here often raises one pressing question: can you experience this storybook city without spending a fortune on accommodation? The short answer is yes, but it requires knowing where to look. While Strasbourg has its share of luxury hotels, it is also home to a wide range of affordable stays that do not compromise on comfort or location.
The key to finding value in Strasbourg is understanding its geography. The city is compact and well-connected by an efficient tram system, which means you can stay slightly outside the hyper-touristic center and still reach the cathedral in minutes. This often translates into significantly lower nightly rates and quieter evenings.
Budget travel does not mean sacrificing the local experience. Many of the city’s cheaper hotels are family-run establishments with distinctive Alsatian character, offering hearty breakfasts and personalized advice. Staying at these properties often gives you a more authentic feel for the city than a generic international chain.
However, prices in Strasbourg fluctuate dramatically depending on the calendar. During the annual Christmas market season and when the European Parliament is in session, even budget rooms can become scarce and expensive. Booking early and traveling during shoulder seasons are essential strategies for securing the best deals.
Below is a curated selection of the best cheap hotels in Strasbourg. These properties have been chosen for their balance of price, cleanliness, guest satisfaction, and access to public transport, ensuring you spend less on your bed and more on experiencing the capital of Alsace.

Do not recommend at all. We had bedbugs in our room and were told to send an email to the manager for a reimbursement. After weeks I'm still waiting for a reply. The receptionist and night guard did not care much either. Moreover the toilet seat looked disgusting and the shower was tiny. No way to shower without constantly hitting the walls by accident and I'm even 1,60m short...

Our room smelled like toilet and I am not even joking. I don’t recommend taking this place.
I mean for this price it can be simple but not like sleeping in the public WC. I opened the window for the whole night but it didn’t help.
I also saw the bedbugs in our room.
We didn’t have even soap in our toilet.
No towels.
The room looked unclean.
The worse place

Staying at this hotel in Strasbourg was, without exaggeration, a complete disaster. We had booked and fully paid for our room months in advance, yet the receptionist was so unbelievably careless that she charged us a second time as if she had no idea what she was doing. The original payment was €91.90, and because of one employee’s unbelievable incompetence, we were forced to pay an extra €81.90 for their mistake.
The staff here is on another level of useless. In my experience, they showed zero professionalism, zero respect, and zero ability to resolve even the simplest issue. They don’t communicate, they don’t organize, and they clearly don’t care. The internal management felt like pure chaos. Honestly, it gave the impression that they take advantage of tourists rather than serve them.
This is, hands down, the worst hotel I’ve ever stayed at in Strasbourg—and possibly anywhere. The service was pathetic, the attitude was disgusting, and the level of incompetence was almost impressive in how extreme it was.
If you value your money, your time, or even your dignity, do yourself a favor and stay as far away from this place as possible.

Such a messy and smelly room. If you’re looking for cheap accommodation, you can book a room here, but you’ll definitely be wasting your money.

The google maps pin is wrong, it took us forever to find the place at night.
The staff was very friendly and breakfast was good.
The room was nice but was smelling a bit like smoke and cigarettes, even though smoking was strictly forbidden.

Clean and comfortable, I was met by two girls at the reception who explained all the activities of the hostel to me. I would like to thank them. These two girls at the reception are really professionals. One of them also spoke Russian to me, which made my communication with them easier. Thanks to her and the whole team.

On arrival, it quickly became apparent that several advertised facilities were either unavailable or unusable during our stay. The bar area was undergoing building work, but we were never informed of this before arrival. As a result, facilities we expected to use—including the social spaces—were unavailable. The advertised pool table, book exchange and other communal facilities were not accessible to us, and we certainly didn't experience the welcoming social atmosphere that was advertised. The promised panoramic view was also nowhere to be seen.
The room itself was lacking in basic amenities. There was no soap in the bathroom, the lockers couldn't be locked, and although the hostel is advertised as non-smoking, people were smoking around the property throughout our stay.
The shared kitchen was extremely disappointing. The self-catering facilities were minimal, with no cooker available, making it impossible to prepare even simple meals. The kitchen also smelt strongly of rotten food, making it an unpleasant place to spend any time.
When we asked reception where we could get drinking water, we were laughed at. Eventually we found a tap in a room that had initially been locked, but it was a chemical-style sink fitted with a hose rather than a normal drinking water point. This was an incredibly poor response to a simple request.
Breakfast was by far the biggest disappointment. We had already paid for breakfast as part of our booking, costing around £30 in total, and it represented terrible value. We were strictly limited to one pastry each (one bread roll and one pain au chocolat), despite there being other food available. The breakfast consisted of cheese, ham, scrambled eggs and hot dogs, all left uncovered in hot weather with flies landing on the food. The yoghurt and milk had been left unrefrigerated for around two hours, and the cereal containers hadn't been restocked. There was a member of staff present, but they did not appear to monitor the food or address any of these issues. The hygiene standards were concerning, and the breakfast was a complete waste of money.
Another issue was the lack of any guidance or enforcement around appropriate behaviour in shared dormitories. During much of our stay, one of our roommates was completely naked in the room. We appreciate that shared accommodation involves compromise, but guests should be expected to maintain a basic level of respect and decency in communal sleeping spaces. Clear guidance from the hostel and intervention from staff when necessary would help ensure everyone feels comfortable.
Compared with hostels we've stayed in elsewhere—including accommodation in Indonesia that cost considerably less—this was one of the poorest hostel experiences we've had. Those hostels were cleaner, better maintained, had facilities such as air conditioning and easily accessible drinking water, and offered significantly better value for money.
Overall, this hostel did not deliver the experience or facilities we expected, and several aspects of our stay fell well below an acceptable standard. Because of the number of issues, we decided to check out early. Unfortunately, we cannot recommend staying here unless significant improvements are made.

I went to this hostel with a group of classmates , we stayed there for 3 nights and I have no positive things to say about this place. The mattress and covers were dirty , there were hairs on the pillows and blanket that weren't mine and also bedbugs. The floor was not clean and you couldn't walk around your room with socks if you didn't want to get them dirty. If you wanted to wash your hands or shower , you had to press the button to get the water running and after like 10 seconds it stopped so you had to press it again. At breakfast they only gave us a sweet pasty and if you wanted to have more then you had some cheese and ham which I didn't want to try. The location was also bad , it was nowhere near any stores or tram/bus stations. Only come here if you don't have another choice.
Leon★★★★☆
The best part is the rooms, they're big, open, cheap and have a shower and toilet. You'll need to bring your own soap and towel, the soap part being a bit concerning for the overall hygiene of the place, but it smells fine and looks clean for the most part. The hostel also has a laundry room that's a bit tricky to understand, but also pretty cheap. It accidentally charged us twice, but when contacting staff they said they would get it refunded, so while a negative experience it also shows that the staff have their guests best interests in mind. They also speak English really well.
The worst part for most people (maybe outside of the soap) will be the location being so far away from the city centre. There are actually a lot of cheap public transport options to get to the centre, but you'll always have to walk around a kilometer to get to them and they're just a bit slow.
Overall this is a really great hostel for its price and I don't understand why it has so many bad reviews. Maybe they have fixed some things since then or those people just got unlucky.
Yordan Yordanov★★★★☆
The youth hostel is located approx. 1 walking hour away from downtown Strasbourg; the nearest Lidl is basically in Germany, only 30 walking min away.
The property has a vast common area along with a bar, a restaurant, and a co-working space.
There is a tiny kitchen corner as well.
Wifi is really fast.
Staff is friendly.
Considering the price level, it has a good price/value ratio.
Recommend it for a short stay and for those who has a car or a bike.
To improve:
- the bedroom and the showers were extremely dirty. They should put emphasis on the hygiene.
- The kitchen corner was so dirty, as if animals were eating there.
The management should introduce stricg rules regarding guests’ behaviour since the majority of them are young people.

I recently stayed at the ibis Strasbourg Centre Historique and had a brilliant experience. The hotel itself is clean, comfortable, and ideally located for exploring the beautiful historic center of Strasbourg.
What truly set this stay apart was the exceptional staff, particularly Elham. Their service was top-notch—incredibly welcoming, helpful, and attentive to every detail. It’s rare to find such genuine hospitality, and it made my trip so much better. I will definitely choose this hotel again next time I'm in town!

3 nights in this hotel was too much. If we could have found an alternative we would have left.
The location is good and some of the staff pleasant and helpful. The rooms are so basic it's hard to believe. Ours had plugs only by the window, a badly leaking shower that flooded the bathroom and bedroom floor. The flooring was either loose or had been removed. The bathroom is very small and awkward to use.
The bed had a horrible stain on it and a sheet was stained. The towels are small and thin. The pillows were very thin.
The room was cold with no heating control. The TV was small and had very limited channels. Not worth using.
I would not only not recommend this property I would suggest anyone who wants a comfortable stay to avoid.
chris jacobs★☆☆☆☆
If your over 5'10 or planning on staying here with a partner don't. Just choose a different place. I hit my head in the hallway cause the ceiling is extremely low but not near the elevator just in the hallways so I didn't pay attention and I'm just 6ft not some tall basketball player. The pictures they post of the rooms are extremely deceiving to make them look bigger and we'll maintained.
Mattress is just a mattress pad on top of a box spring there is no actual mattress but don't worry the mattress is so short only part of you will be on it. I'm 6ft and basically everything below the knee was hanging off the bed. The floors are disgusting wood that looks like it has never been cleaned and its chipping. My girlfriend and I stayed 1 night out of 3 nights and left without a refund cause we honestly just wanted to leave.
I didn't even mention the tv appears to use 3 color chords from the 90s, the toilet paper was over half gone when we checked in like the staff had been using the room or something. The shower isn't caulked right so the water leaks all over the floor and it doesn't look like it's ever cleaned so I would not walk on the floor with bare feet. This is probably why the floor is chipping if it gets wet constantly from water leaks.
The area around the hotel is extremely bad and my girlfriend didn't feel safe past 6pm. I really could go on and on its horrific. Avoid at all costs and that's coming from a person who just waisted money on this place and booked another hotel within an hour of checking in.
I know this seems harsh but I'm being as nice as I can and just listing out clear issues cause I'd be here all day typing if I didn't stick to things I've taken pictures of to prove they are an issue since hotels like to try and remove bad reviews. So I have pictures for everything I've mentioned above. This isn't just a bad hotel it's been left to rot for years and should be avoided.

The breakfast menu is very poor ,the cups and plates not Totally cleaned , l had to clean it with myself before using , also we found worms and fungus inside the peach 🤮,
About the room size you need to move with your side not fitting all the weights.
About the receptionists they are very helpful.
Location is superb, just 2 min. Form line B tram

It’s a relatively cheap accommodation and it’s convenient given you have access to a kitchen in your room. However I agree with the other reviews: the furnitures in the room are old and wanky, the room has a weird smell and although it was overall clean, I still found a dead bug in on the floor. Another bad point is the wifi: it practically doesn’t work or is extremely slow.
It would also be convenient to have more utilities (e.g. a hairdryer, bottle opener…).
The people at the front desk were very nice.

Working people were nice, overall not a place you wanna rent in summer. Sadly you can post nice hotelroom pictures on booking, reality is way different. it was clean but old and too warm, breakfast okey but not more. Better than sleeping outside for sure! 🙂 couldve been worse

Relatively in a quieter neighborhood, this is a good option to stay in Strasbourg. Rooms are not too expensive, so I will say it is a good value for money option. The location is also very good as the train station and bus stops are close. They also approved and helped with our late check-in. We had little issues with the washroom basin but apart from that everything was fine and the reception was very helpful. Overall, it's a really good place.

Avoid at any cost.
We paid higher price for the weekend stay as a last moment booking which affected our expectations. Almost €200 for two rooms and 4 people.
Everything looks like a poor student accommodation. Room furniture is super old and outdated, bathroom needs a good refurbishment, and the canteen smells awful where breakfast was a joke. No eggs, no fruits apart of apples, no vegetable milk. I almost feel scammed at this price.
B Aamirah Sullymunjeeajee★☆☆☆☆
Extremely disappointed with this hotel. The room was unclean, and the bathroom was in such a terrible state that I didn’t even want to step inside. The sink leaked water everywhere, making it even worse. The photos advertised online are completely misleading and do not reflect the actual condition of the room. The room was unbearably hot, with only a fan provided, and the bed was broken. Overall, a very unsatisfactory stay and definitely not worth the money.

The worst Hotel we have ever been to. It’s 40 degrees outside and at least 38/40 degrees inside. We tried everything but the air conditioning seems to be broken. It was barely possible to open the window to at least get a little bit of fresh air. Even if it was still very hot outside. The whole room was dirty and in the bathroom was hair and the soap was empty. The mattress was visible at some point so to bad bed making. And the Mattress was dirty (possibly somebody left something behind). The breakfast for 10€ was barely a breakfast it was more like a snack the eggs looked like they were cooked many days ago. We will never book this hotel again and were thankful that we only stayed for one night. Nevertheless the location was not that bad. Only 7 stations to the city center. And it had parking.
Sansa Sansa★☆☆☆☆
Unfortunately a disappointing stay. This was the second time staying at this hotel. The first time us and other people that wanted to check in couldn’t because there was no one at the reception desk. Which resulted in a huge waiting time. It seems that in the morning there is no receptionist and their shift only starts from 14:00 (same as check in time, so that means if receptionist is late/sick there is no one to cover). The automated check in machine was out of order so not helpful at all. Now we wanted to give it another try to stay at B&b Strasbourg nord schiltigheim. But unfortunately not a good experience again. While checking in the computer said twice that the tourist tax didn’t come through even though it passed through the machine and was reduced from the bank. Afterwards they covered this so ok. When we came back to the room after a long day of traveling and staying in the city we wanted to take a shower but there was NO HOT WATER. The receptionist came to the room to check and confirmed and said he was going to contact his manager. The manager stated that the boilers are small and that they probably ran out of hot water. Mind you this was at midnight. He said that probably by the morning there would be again hot water. They didn’t propose anything for a partial refund for the inconvenience. This particular hotel of B&B doesn’t match the standards at all of all the other B&B hotels that we have visited in the past. Very disappointing. The staff itself is trying their best to be helpful but they can only do whatever their management allows them to do. As of now, in the future we would not visit this specific hotel again.

Very well suitable for our overnight stay with good accessibility to the city center by public transport. The room was clean and sufficient and the breakfast was good too. We mostly appreciated the extra service and communication - they sent us a forgotten phone by post very shortly after our stay. Many thanks for this again!

There were spiderwebs and spiders near the bed 🙁 The room was small, no closet, only a small rack and no safe for valuable items. Very basic bathroom, no hairdryer or tissues. breakfast was not great either: not much variety, lack of gluten free and lactose free items

We booked 2 rooms, for one of them the room door lock is broken and the other one’s ac was not working. We were given rooms on 3rd floor then we found out that the elevator was not working, lol, had to go back to the car and get only the essentials for one night and leave the luggage’s behind.
Overall it was clean rooms.

Three night stay with family to visit the Christmas markets.
Booked two rooms, one double and one triple for our adult daughters.
Location - very good. About a ten minute walk from the hotel to the main square of the Christmas markets. But as it is outside the main part of the old town across the river it is much easier to access. If you stay in a hotel in the central area bounded by the rivers, it can be difficult to access your hotel as the bridges are closed to cars including taxis and Ubers from 11am and all bags you have crossing the bridges will be searched. About a 10 minute drive from main train station although traffic can make this longer.
Rooms - in many years of travel across all continents including a lot in Europe I have never stayed in a smaller hotel room. It was tiny and even getting to the other side of the bed was a challenge. Note that this seems to be specific to one room on each floor, which is down the end of the corridor, can’t recall the number.
Breakfast - excellent. Plenty of choice of good quality food in a lovely cellar room
Service - reception was perfunctory at best, serviceable but nothing more
Would not stay again due to the risk of getting the tiny room but would be ok if those rooms could be avoided

It's good for its price, it's close to the city center while not being in the middle of it. Every location is reachable on foot in about 15 minutes at most.
Staff is very nice and cordial.
Worst problem for me that the wifi in the room was extremely poor. I can put up with a small room, but not with that poor of a wifi in 2026.

The older man at the reception had very poor English, misunderstood almost everything I said, and responded with an incredibly RUDE and DISRESPECTFUL attitude.

It was very close to the touristical places and public transportation stations. We walked approx 20 mins to go to city center while you walking you are already visiting historical places.
Rooms were warm and quite clean. Beds and pillows are soft enough to make you sleep well. According to comments we were worried about the when we take a shower waters will spread to the room and bathroom floor however we didnt have it either.
They have basic kitchen stuff.
Floor werent clean enough they should vacuum more often. You should bring your own slippers.
If you dont have big expectation and all you need is sleeping in a nice clean and cozy room that is the right place.
We didnt have breakfast in hotel we bought something from a close bakery which is Boulangerie Amry. For the dinner and lunch we went to Chez Toto which is kebab and döner saloon.

Mid place for staying in Strasbourg. The hotel gives you what you need, no more, no less. You are kinda closed to the city center with the buses, we decided to go on foot (~30 mins). Sadly, service was awful. They don't speak good English, and it was hard to communicate. The price for the room is way too high, considering the quality of the beds and the space. Also, they have an air flowing system that is extremely noisy in the night and it just can't be turned off. Pillows were awful, just unpleasant to stay on, surely not pillows for sleeping (and also kinda dirty). On the right side, it is quiet and everything else not listed here went smoothly. I booked via booking.com.
Jill Ann Tessy★★☆☆☆
Small room. Dirty. Smelly corridors. Noisy upper floor.
But I liked the size and disposition of the bathroom (no hair dryer)
Plus the hotel is not too far from the train station, and there's a tram stop within 2 minutes walk, which is perfect

I am extremely disappointed by my experience with this property. I had booked multiple rooms for a delegation of 20 young people from my NGO to attend the European Youth Event (EYE) in Strasbourg from 12th to 15th June 2025, which is a major international gathering with thousands of participants.
Despite confirming the booking well in advance, the hotel suddenly cancelled our reservation a month and a half before the stay, citing that the credit card name didn’t match the names of the guests. This is not a valid reason, especially since we had already provided the names of the 10 people responsible for the rooms, which was clearly sufficient.
What’s worse, the hotel made no attempt to contact us for clarification or resolution. Instead, they cancelled everything unilaterally, leaving us in serious financial and logistical trouble, especially as finding alternative accommodation for a large group during such a major event week is nearly impossible.
This level of unprofessionalism and lack of communication is absolutely inexcusable. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone planning group travel or relying on trustworthy service.

Room is nicer than expected and has plenty of space for what I need and kitchen too. Bathroom is clean and simple but water didn't get super warm maybe this was my error. It was pretty quiet at night which is great and close walking distance to petite France!

I can’t put a finger on the rooms it self. Nice beds; nice pillows and good quality towels. A good size room, even though we came two adult and two kids.
Two mayor isues though;
1) The rooms aren’t soundproof, at all, so we could here a loud “glonk” sound from the elevator every time it was in use and the sweet love making from our upstair neighbors
2) The ground floor had a really weird smell which wasn’t very pleasant while eating breakfast
..
The service at the hotel was very pleasant, but they forget a towel, forgot to close our window and forgot to put duvet cover on the kids bed one day.

The staff were extremely polite and helpful, which made our stay very pleasant. The rooms were clean, however they showed noticeable wear and tear from use, and it was clear that maintenance of small details had not been carried out recently.

A great hotel that is definitely worth the price. Nothing fancy or high-end, but more than sufficient if you’re planning to spend 2–3 nights in Strasbourg. The city center is just a 10-minute walk away, which is very convenient. Overall, it offers excellent value for money.

I stayed in a basement room (floor -1) and it wasn’t a great experience. The room felt damp, with a musty smell and some mold, and it was very dark. The bed was quite small and there weren’t enough plugs for charging devices, which made things inconvenient. On the positive side, the staff were very friendly and the location is good, about a 20 minute walk to the city center. If you stay here, I’d definitely recommend avoiding the basement rooms, they really need some improvemens.

-it's clear from booking, but indeed there is no air conditioning in the rooms. It can get warm during summer nights. We kept the window open but it was warm still. Good to keep in mind when booking.

Very good value for money, this is a top of the range 3-star stay which we found ideal as a stop-off on our trip across Europe. Smallish but very clean rooms with comfortable bed and hot, powerful shower, plus tea and coffee - making facilities. We also ate at the restaurant which was a little expensive but served very good northern comfort food.
Breakfast was also excellent with a wide choice and fresh products. Friendly, professional staff.

Stayed here on a Friday night with my baby. The person at the front desk was super helpful! The rooms are simple but clean and the breakfast is plentiful with typical food from the region. Highly recommend starting your day that way. The free parking is a nice touch and I appreciated that it was easy access by car, but also fast to get into the heart of Strasbourg by tram or on foot. Would’ve booked a second night if it had been possible.

Stayed there for 3 nights with pay around 600-700 euros. This was very expensive as because of Christmas market the prices for a 2 star hotel shooted like rocket sky high.
There are 2 best things about this hotel. The breakfast and the location as it's extremely near to tram station and honestly tram day passes are very affordable and quick services. We never had to wait for more than 2 mins for a tram.
About the hotel room , it was a very small room with very small bathroom. Well not to complaint for a 2 star room is understandable. The amenities in the bathroom are minimal. For a 2 people using washroom is a struggle and cramped. Cleaning of blankets was horrible. Could see previous stayed people's hairs all over it. Every day blonde black hairs would be sticked to it. Hence the cleaning service was not good. Hairs all over the floor surface even after everyday room cleaning. No charging slots on right bedside.
Other good thing is the on-site car parking. Handy and helpful!

The placement of hotel was good . But the room was so hot and there was a strange smell .(there is a fan) .no toilet shoes for shower no water inside room .no mini fridge…

Great location, comfortable bed, great staff. I had a single bed individual room without a shower, which was shared. The second floor shower looked a little bit dirty so I would recommend slippers, but the 3rd floor shower was clean and comfortable.
They don’t have elevators, though it wasn’t a problem for me.
Another note is that the walls are thin so sometimes you might hear neighbours talking at night, it bothered me a little bit on the second night.
Overall I enjoyed my stay! Good price compared to other hotels in the area.

Very good location, super sweet and helpful staff! Room is just decent, but honestly good for the price. Would recommend for short stays or low budget.
I stayed in a single bedroom on last floor, with common shower and toilets for the floor.

For a single traveler for a short stay, the room is quite decent also quite comfortable to sleep. Each floor has a single toilet and a shower room, the shower head is a bit too powerless for me when I took the shower, felt like shower in the small rain, so it was quite inconvenient for me. Overall, it was nice stay. Good location to visit Christmas markets and the main tourist spot area. Outside has tramway also very closed to train station, as for flix bus station was like 15-20 minutes walk. No elevator.

Lovely service from the gentleman in the reception. Room was spaceous, well cleaned and easy to find. Walking distance to the train station and in to town.
The bed was a little hard and I would recommend bringing earplugs, if you are sensitive for noice

Small hotel, affordable price, nice view of the street since I stayed in a room with big balcony. The staff including cleaners and receptionist were truly friendly, they offered us a warm welcome and dropping luggage service after the last night of staying . Yet It’s a bit inconvenient with mutual toilette and showers. Btw, the toilette was clean.

This hostel is extremely clean and the staff is very friendly. The rooms are spotless and the showers and bathrooms were spacious and clean. The whole city is amazing but specifically the area where the hostel is located is beautiful. Be aware though that the rooms get pretty hot at night, I’d bring a personal fan or something of that nature. And if the windows open to let out air, you can hear all the noise downstairs in the bar. It was a Friday but still. Besides that it was good.

One of the worst hostel experiences I have ever had.
The only reason this review is not 1/5 solely because of the friendly reception staff, who were the only bright spot during my stay. Everything else was disappointing.
The hostel was dirty and poorly maintained, with dust everywhere. The shower facilities were extremely basic, and some of the equipment was broken. There were no towels, shampoo, or shower gel provided, which is unacceptable for a place charging guests to stay there.
The room was unbearably hot and stuffy, making it difficult to get any decent sleep. On top of that, the soundproofing was practically nonexistent—you can hear people talking, walking, and moving around at all hours.
Overall, this place feels neglected and far below the standard I would expect from any hostel. There are plenty of better options in Strasbourg. I would strongly advise travelers to avoid this hostel and stay elsewhere.
I would not stay here again even if it were significantly cheaper.

This review focuses mostly on the rooms. Each room has at least 4 beds, but there’s only one shared bathroom for showering for the whole floor. The bathrooms really need to be cleaned at least twice a day instead of just once to keep things hygienic.
The main reason for my low rating is the lack of ventilation, there is no AC or fans anywhere in the building. It got so hot and stuffy at night that I felt like I was suffocating until I opened the curtain, which unfortunately took away all my privacy. It’s an affordable stay, but I’d only recommend booking during colder months, definitely not in the summer

The rooms weren't bad, but they lack any additional ventilation system, which means it gets a bit hot in the summer. The showers aren't ergonomic at all; furthermore, you can't adjust the water temperature—yes, you really can't. I was forced to take a hot shower in this hot weather. Also, it seems the staff's break times are a bit flexible. I couldn't get into my room because of an issue with my key card; when I went back to the reception to ask about it, I was told the staff member had gone on a break. I believe it was around 6:40 PM. After all, they deserve a break, so I waited for the stated duration. However, by 7:15 PM, there was still no one there. Still no one at 7:20 PM, or 7:30 PM. No one showed up until 7:45 PM. I couldn't access the room I had paid for because of a problem with my card. I wonder, if I had checked out 50 minutes late, would I have been met with the same level of understanding?

Went to eat at their restaurant (did not stay at hotel). They were missing more than half the items on the menu, food took nearly an hour to come out for everyone and at different times. We were a group of 15, but the difference between the first meal and last meal coming out was 30+ minutes. Food was okay, what you would expect at a hostel. Staff is nice.
Also the ketchup was just tomato sauce 😂
Tips for Booking Cheap Hotels in Strasbourg
Finding a budget-friendly room in Strasbourg is not just about picking the cheapest listing; it is about maximizing value. The city’s unique status as a political capital and a tourist hotspot means that room rates can be volatile. Understanding how the city operates will help you avoid overpaying and ensure you secure a comfortable base for your exploration.
1. Avoid Parliamentary Sessions
Strasbourg hosts the European Parliament for one week each month, bringing thousands of officials and lobbyists to the city. During these "session weeks," usually Monday to Thursday, even basic hotel rooms skyrocket in price. Check the official EU parliamentary calendar before booking and try to schedule your visit for a week when the parliament is not in session.
2. Leverage the Tram System
Hotels located directly on Place Kléber or near the Cathedral charge a premium for their address. Instead, look for hotels near tram lines A, B, C, or D in neighborhoods like Neudorf, Krutenau, or near the central train station. A five-minute tram ride can save you fifty euros a night.
3. Book Far Ahead for the Christmas Market
If you are visiting in late November or December, "cheap" is relative. The Marché de Noël draws millions of visitors. To secure a room under €100 a night during this period, you often need to book three to six months in advance. Last-minute deals are virtually non-existent during the festive season.
4. Look for "Tourist Tax" Inclusions
City taxes in France, known as the taxe de séjour, are usually added per person per night on top of the advertised rate. When comparing prices, check whether the quoted rate includes this tax. Some budget hotels bundle it into their online price, making them slightly cheaper in reality than competitors who add it at checkout.
5. Consider a Hotel with Breakfast Included
Dining out in Strasbourg’s tourist center can be pricey. A budget hotel that offers a complimentary or low-cost traditional breakfast—often featuring fresh baguettes, croissants, local jams, and cheese—can save a couple or family a significant amount of money compared to buying breakfast at a café every morning.
6. Check for Parking Fees Before You Book
If you are driving to Strasbourg, a cheap room can become expensive quickly if the hotel charges €20 to €30 per night for parking. Look for budget hotels on the outskirts of the center that offer free street parking or lower-cost secure lots, and use the park-and-ride facilities to enter the city.
Strasbourg rewards the savvy traveler who plans ahead. By aligning your travel dates with the city’s quieter periods and utilizing its excellent public transit, you can secure a room that leaves plenty of room in your budget for tarte flambée, Alsatian wine, and river cruises.
With a little research, the magic of Strasbourg is entirely accessible on a budget. The city’s compact scale means that even a modestly priced room on the outskirts places you just minutes away from some of the most beautiful medieval architecture in Europe.
