12 Best Bakeries Near Alhambra

Nestled just east of Madrid’s bustling city center, Alhambra is a neighborhood that rewards those who prefer a slower, more authentic pace. While it may not have the global name recognition of the Andalusian palace it shares a name with, this residential enclave has quietly cultivated a thriving local food scene. For residents and visitors alike, the search for a perfect loaf of crusty bread or a delicate pastry is a daily ritual.

Spanish bakery culture is deeply rooted in tradition, but it also embraces modern dietary trends and international influences. In this corner of Madrid, you are just as likely to find a century-old recipe for pan de pueblo as you are a meticulously laminated croissant or a vegan-friendly muffin. The sheer variety can be overwhelming, but it also means there is truly something for every palate.

The difference between a good bakery and a great one often comes down to the details: the fermentation time of the dough, the quality of the butter, and the warmth of the service. In the streets surrounding Alhambra, several family-run operations have been perfecting these details for generations. They wake up long before sunrise to ensure that the aroma of fresh bread greets the neighborhood with the morning light.

This guide focuses on the establishments that offer more than just a sugar rush. We have prioritized bakeries that use high-quality ingredients, maintain consistent baking standards, and contribute to the community’s character. Whether you need a quick breakfast on the way to the metro or a show-stopping dessert for a dinner party, these options have you covered.

While traditional Spanish sweets like napolitanas and palmeras remain staples, the local scene has expanded to include artisan sourdough and French patisserie. This evolution reflects the changing tastes of the neighborhood, blending the comfort of Spanish classics with the precision of European baking techniques. It is an exciting time to be a bread lover in this part of the city.

To compile this list, we evaluated bakeries based on the texture of their bread, the balance of sweetness in their pastries, and their reputation among local regulars. We looked for places that treat baking as a craft rather than an assembly line. The result is a curated selection that represents the best of what the area has to offer.

Below, you will find a carefully selected list of the top bakeries near Alhambra. These are the spots where the crust crackles just right, the crumbs are tender, and the display cases are works of art. Use this list as your starting point for exploring the neighborhood’s finest flour-based creations.

Family-run bakery with delicious homemade sweets! Every time we come, we have to get their donuts and muffins, which sell out super fast.

The bakery in my town, for me there's no other like it or even remotely similar, and the people are so nice... Agustina is a lovely woman and her whole family
José Munsuri Domínguez★★★★★
Genial!
All the buns are amazing and prepared early in the day; bread and muffins are their specialty.
Diego Flores Cortés★★★★★
Homemade bread that tastes like it was baked in a wood-fired oven, that keeps for days and doesn't turn into chewy bits after a few hours. The chocolate pastries are on another level, the muffins are amazing. And the service from the shop assistant, Mrs. Agustina, is top-notch.

BE CAREFUL with prices. SCAM!!! ¡UN TIMO! REALLY EXPENSIVE PRICES: THEY SAY THE PRICE IS RELATED TO THE WEIGHT, BUT YOU DON'T SEE THE WEIGHT... The trick to cheat is the following: - they put two sizes of bag (large and medium). - and next to them two prices (4 and 5 euros) - they ask you which bag you want and they fill the whole bag. -when you go to pay they ask you for three 15 and 30 euros or more. - the tourists leave with the face of cheated or deceived. - if someone asks, they tell you that it says 4 euros for 100 grams. As a fact, they always act very fast so that you do not realize that you have paid 20 or 30 euros for a handful of fried nuts with sugar. Be very careful with candies as well. Notice how they put too many on the trays. THAT IS THE BAG THEY PRETEND WILL BE FULL, BUT FULL IS 30 EUROS. MANY PEOPLE IS STOLEN AND AUTHORITIES... ARE YOU GOING TO DO SOMETHING???
Vadim Kööp★☆☆☆☆
The sweets are tasty and of good quality. However, I found the prices to be quite high compared to similar places. I was also disappointed with the customer service, as I felt there was too much pressure to purchase additional items. Overall, the experience did not meet my expectations.

We got lured in by the pretty colours, then thought we’d get a small box as a treat. Turns out that the small box weighed 2kg and cost 72€!!! It left us feeling like idiots. We decided to crack open the box about a month later for my birthday and can confirm that the baklava and Turkish delight taste absolutely delicious. And as they are so sweet you can slice them up thinly and make them last ages. I’m so glad that at least they are good quality otherwise I would have felt completely defrauded. I have learned my lesson!
Emma★★★★☆
The staff keeps talking you into buying more. They are pretty pricy. 4 euros per 100 grams for Turkish delights.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ We stopped by Alhambra Churrería on a Friday night after dinner for dessert, and it was a great way to end the evening. As a Mexican, I’m probably a little picky about churros. I’d give these a 7.5/10 compared to the churros I’m used to, but they were still very good. The churros were fresh with good flavor, and the hot chocolate wasn’t overly sweet or heavy, which I appreciated. There were four of us, and one order was plenty to share after dinner. The real highlight for us was the location. We sat outside on the patio overlooking the plaza, enjoyed the cool evening breeze, and watched people stroll through the square. It felt like one of those simple travel moments that ends up being a favorite memory. Pro tip: If you’ve just finished dinner in Granada and want a traditional dessert, one order is enough for several people to share. A nice spot for churros and chocolate in Granada, especially if you can grab a table outside and enjoy the atmosphere of the plaza.
Martin Marlev★☆☆☆☆
DON’T BOTHER! Mediocre churros, bad food and cosmic prices. Ordered a starter and two meals, the croquettes were ok, but the Dog fish chunks were not edible with very strong sour taste. There was no garnish whatsoever, it looked like they were tossed in the plate straight from the deep fryer. The peppers stuffed with cod were covered in an excuse for a béchamel sauce doing bad job masking the bad flavour of the fish. Had two dirty glasses of wine which was I presume the cheapest one they could get and upsell. Churros were nothing special served with not chocolate (the drink) which was not the thick consistency of what churros are normally served with. Worse part of it was the price, prices for starters and main meals are pretty much the same (€16-€18). The whole “experience” costed us nearly €80 which is the most we have payed for a meal in our entire trip in Andalusia. Service was poor with waiters not speaking very good English which isn’t a big issue, but the whole table service personal just didn’t seem to hold any standard in quality of service. Would not recommend,
Seraphine Bun★★★☆☆
Interesting dessert, Churros + chocolate sauce And we ordered cappuccino (quite pricy for Spain cafe) ☕️ to go with it Hmmm 🤨 it’s basically deep fried 油條+巧克力 But didn’t like the chocolate sauce that much 😛 Hahaa think the dessert isn’t supper for me🤭🤭
Wendy J★★★★★
Great spot for churros. We thought this was the best one we had so far in Granada! The churros aren’t too dense/heavy, and the chocolate dip has a good consistency and sweetness to it. The bombón coffee is a good one to try if you’re into sweet things.
Haneen El Sahili★★★★★
We got typical Spanish breakfast, it was really tasty! Also our waiter, Alba was super nice, she attended with attention to detail and made sure we had a great experience!

A really nice-looking place with a wide variety of arab sweets! The staff is friendly and she readily explained to me the flavors on display. Unfortunately when I arrived, the pistachio baklava was sold out. But I got a pistachio chocolate which I enjoyed, and a sort of almond finger roll. This was also good, although a bit drier compared to the chocolate pistachio.
Scott Bennett★★★★★
Wandered in by chance on a very hot day. Outstanding selection of baklava in a range of different nuts (pistachio, cashew, walnut, etc). The chocolate pistachio was gorgeous. Pairs well with their strong Turkish coffee. Unusually friendly and helpful staff. We also picked up a locally handmade ceramic cup and a few bottles of olive oil (grown from a local variety of olives). Great find, would definitely return next time we’re in Granada.
Hayley★★★★★
Stumbled upon this quaint little shop and we were not disappointed! Not only is the shop extremely cute, the baklava is some of the best I have ever had and there was quite the variety! The individual working was extremely friendly! If in Granada you need to stop by this charming little shop!
Gerhild Carlstroem★★★★★
We had such a nice and lovely Turkish coffee in Ziries and enjoyed the Baclava very much! It was fresh and tasty 👌🏼 We felt the friendly and warm welcome from Esra … and will visit her every day during our stay in Granada!

Lovely morrocan tea and sweets place. We stopped there on our way back from Sacromonte for a short rest. We absolutely loved the Pastela de pollo, a morrocan specialty: kind of a chicken pie with almonds, cinnamon and just a tiny bit sweet. Really recommend trying it there, they make it freshly and warm it for you. It tasted so good! I found it tasted better and "nuttier" than in other places. It's great if you're just a bit hungry and don't feel like eating really sweet baklava... The young woman at the counter was really nice and gave good recommendations. Thank you!

Great little Moroccan bakery in the narrow streets of Granada. The owner is a man of few words, but he knows his produce and his stuff. Great prices and brilliant products Only downside is, there are no seating. You can buy from his shop and take it to the tea shop next door and eat it there. They don't seem to mind.
Louise★★★★★
Absolutely delicious pastries... We bought 6 between two as we couldn't decide! They were so cheap as well, mostly €1.25 each. Stunning. Not too sweet either. I recommend the chocolate walnut baklava!
Tabish Soleman★★★★★
AMAZING!!! The different baklavas here are absolutely delicious! Also the sultana (coconut cookie) is heavenly, perhaps the best thing I ate in Granada. The prices are also fantastic for the quality, you get delicious handmade traditional sweets for less than a 1.50€ each. MUST visit when in Granada!

We came here everyday on our stay in Granada. We just couldn't resist. Every single one we tried tasted incredible. We would take them home and eat on a evening. They even had lots of ones that were vegan. I can't stop thinking about them and how nice the shop was

❌Scam alert‼️Unfriendly staff and manipulative sales tactics. I wish I read the other reviews before going in, but it’s right at the start of the street and was an impromptu stop-in. We just wanted a small bag of nuts, but the staff immediately took out a gallon sized bag and filled it to the brim - it would have been €100 or more (which we did not know). We said no, we only wanted a small bag, and the staff kept talking in circles and trying to coerce us, saying “eating these will get you muscles like these.” He didn’t even have big muscles. Eventually he cut down to half a bag but still wouldn’t go any less, QUICKLY sealed the bag, and we felt forced into buying €48 worth of (BAD) candied nuts. Do not come here if you want a small quantity. Go somewhere with better service, transparency, and friendlier staff.
Tala de los Santos★☆☆☆☆
Be careful! They will push more than you want. Very aggressive. We ended up paying 50€ for Turkish delight. It left us with a bad taste in our mouth. No wonder it has only one star.
Anchal Singh★☆☆☆☆
Sadly one star is the lowest I can give. The WORST experience my friend and I had in Spain. ❌ ⛳️ The prices look cheap at first (€4 per 100g), but don't be fooled. The staff constantly flirted, joked around, and created unnecessary buzz to keep us distracted while adding more products to the box than we actually wanted. They never clearly tell you the final weight or price until it's too late.. We ended up paying €28 for stuff we never intended to buy. It felt like a classic bait-and-switch tactic. We always read Google review, but entering this place was impromptu and wouldn’t recommend any tourist to buy from there. 🚮
Ana Karen Butler★☆☆☆☆
I’m here for the same reason 😫we got scammed with $95 euros of candies !! Be careful with this store!! It ruins the great experience of Granada.
Mariya Filippova★☆☆☆☆
I agree with all the comments. A terrible experience with this place. I wanted to get a few turkish delights pieces to try. I asked for a small box and named a few pieces to put in. Instead of putting a few small pieces like they were on display, the seller just stuffed huge heavy full logs of that candy. They closed the box and taped it really quickly without me double checking anything. Ended up with $68 cost. Outrageous. I would avoid. The candy is tasty, but the whole experience and scamming is not worth it

Love the turkish coffee and the few grams of candies I ordered. The lady at the counter was also very friendly. She even offered us a free baklava to taste which was also very good. Definitely would try again for some desserts and coffee!

I also want to highlight the staff: the guy who served me spoke English and helped me a lot. He was very kind and attentive, and even let me try many different flavors. People are too severe, place is amazing. Authentic feel to it, service super quick. I take this over Starbucks anytime everyday . Real coffee and real pastries Authentic experiences are super hard to find
Stuart Paterson★☆☆☆☆
Worst experience I’ve ever had. Avoid this place. There seemed to be no interest whatsoever in serving foreign visitors. We waited 45 minutes for a simple ham toast, and it only arrived after we threatened to leave. The service was appalling from start to finish. The only positive was the lovely setting, which deserves much better. Hopefully one day a more customer-focused business will take over this location.
La Glӱck★★☆☆☆
We came to have some ice cream. Unfortunately the heladeria next to it, that we had planned to go to was closed. So we gave this one a try. You could see from the signs, that it’s industrial ice cream with pretty unnatural colours. The ice cream tasted pretty much like a melted marshmallow - way too sweet, strange texture and nothing in common with real gelato… one of the rare times that I decided to toss my whole scoop with cone after a few bites Also the service seemed to be occupied with other things even though not many guests around. The whole ice cream display could also need some love as bits of other flavors obviously had fallen onto the different trays and made it look pretty messy.
Ralph Aguilera★★★★☆
Great spot for a nice simple breakfast Amazing. Make sure you get a pastry they’re unbelievable.
Dean Hobson★☆☆☆☆
We were really looking forward to having breakfast here, but it never happened! I rarely write a bad review (look at my other reviews) and this is one of those. I'd love to say the coffee was dreadful, the pastries were stale and it was expensive, but none of these things happened! We waited at our table for half an hour for our order to be taken, went inside twice to order and were told they would come out and take the order, but nothing happened. This would be bad enough if it was busy, but it really wasn't. It wasn't just us, a group of locals became increasingly frustrated with the lack of service. There are so many amazing places to eat in Granada, where the service is friendly and professional, why bother with this cliche, tourist trap.... DO NOT BOTHER...

Tastes good but the seller is a scammer. Luckily I realized his tricks and could stopp him. If you want to buy a few small pieces to try he starts filling a paper box with huge pieces. This will quickly amount to 50€. You have to harshly stop him and probably still overpay as the scales are placed out of sight from the customers. 30 g per person should be enough as a dessert.

The baklava was delicious and flaky! I didn't realize it was sold by weight so was quite surprised when I saw the bill. They gave out free samples as well.

First off I am not a big baklava person but the owner was giving samples of various sweets and won me over. Baklava was very light and not that crazy sweet taste the pistachio and avellana dessert was really light it’s sort of a nugget toron😎😎

On one of my spontaneous walks in the city, I came across Sabor Alhambra, and it was like discovering a hidden treasure! The decor of the shop is attractive and takes you on a journey to Andalusia and Turkey, adding a magical touch to the tasting experience. I tried the pistachio baklava and it was amazing, full of flavor and incredibly tender. The staff were very friendly and answered all my inquiries with a smile. It is rare to find a place that combines product quality and customer comfort like this. I will definitely visit this place again and recommend it to all sweet lovers!

Sabor Alhambra ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5/5 A Culinary Gem – Literally "Tooth-Defying" Experience! If you are looking for an experience that transports your taste buds straight to the heart of Andalusia, look no further than Sabor Alhambra. This isn’t just a meal; it’s a masterclass in authentic flavors, vibrant atmosphere, and hospitality that makes you feel like family the moment you walk through the door. The decor strikes a perfect balance between rustic charm and modern elegance, creating a space that feels both high-end and incredibly cozy. The Food: The menu is a love letter to traditional techniques. We started with the tapas, but the real showstopper was the dessert. We ordered their signature house-made honey almond turrón, and let me tell you, it is the definition of "decadent." It was so rich, chewy, and perfectly sticky that it actually claimed a victory over my child’s loose tooth! My little one took a bite, gave a surprised look, and out came the tooth, right into the napkin. It turned what could have been a standard dinner into a hilarious, core family memory. Any dessert good enough to help out the Tooth Fairy gets a gold star in my book! Why You Should Go: The Service: handled our "dental emergency" with such grace and humor, even bringing out a little container for the tooth. The Flavors: Bold, fresh, and clearly made with high-quality ingredients. The Vibe: Perfect for a romantic date night or a memorable family outing. Easily one of the best dining experiences we’ve had in years. We will definitely be back—though perhaps with fewer loose teeth next time!

I dont like giving low scores but I believe I was cheated. It suppose to open at 8:30am. I was there at 8:45 and there was nothing on show and the baker saw it right to try to sell me yesterday’s bread pretending it was fresh: I’ve got a piece of bread fit for the pigeons but not for a sandwich. He clearly saw am not from here and saw it right in selling me something he was probably throwing away. Not good. Not good at all. Note: Just saw the reply from the owner. He could have apologised and I would have probably changed my review but what he wrote is just self-righteous bollocks. Bad service and worse response, “caballero”.

Really enjoyed this café, with a view of the Alhambra! It is authentic, simple, local cuisine. We went for the goat cheese/jam toast, tuna toast and the torilla de patatas sandwich. They all did not disappoint, that we finished everything. The service was very friendly and chill. When I go back to Granada, I will definitely come back!

Absolutely loved this place - we got the jamon/manchego/tomato and blackberry sandwiches and both were delicious. The orange juice and chai latte were also amazing. Our waiter was so friendly and the setting was beautiful. Would definitely eat here again

We stumbled up on this cute café nearby our accommodations. As others have mentioned, this spot is cash only. The restaurant is small. It has bar seating inside and a few tables outside. We did have to wait a short time for a table outside, which had a lovely ambience and view. The breakfast specials were also delicious, and they came a fresh orange juice. I got the high fiber muesli with yogurt and topped with honey and cinnamon that they brought to the table.

We were passing by when we saw some nice baklava in the window. Unfortunately, we didn’t check the reviews. As others have mentioned, they immediately pack more pieces than you ask for and are very rude when you politely try to explain that you don’t want them. They even add extra pieces in flavors that you didn’t ask for! Avoid this place at all costs - total scammers!

Don't go in, IT IS A SCAM! We went in with the intention to get two pieces. The salesman immediately went into classical scummy pressure tactics, speaking ultra fast and with an accent so unintelligible, it must have been on purpose. Turns out there is a pretty big "minimum box size", and you pay per weight. The box was quickly filled to the brim with pieces we did not want, but which he put in anyway. The only pieces we actually did want were added last, resulting in an initial bill of 23 euros! After some arguing, we did the only reasonable thing: just walk out. Found a much nicer store down the road. So we recommend to just skip this store and check out the more serious stores nearby.

Didn’t check what I was paying before swiping the card. 60! Euros for a small bag of sweets. Absolute scam

Total disappointment! We asked for trial pieces of just four flavors, but the staff member packed extra pieces — two of each, and in large cuts — clearly to increase the price. This felt dishonest and left a bad impression. Make sure to check exactly what goes into your box before paying.

The name of the shop is « Sabor Alhambra ». Horrible person talking very badly. I highly recommend to try another one !

Tips for Choosing the Right Bakery in Alhambra

Navigating a neighborhood’s bakery scene can be tricky, especially when every window display looks tempting. To help you make the most of your visit, we have gathered a few practical tips based on local habits and baking fundamentals. Following these suggestions will ensure you walk away with the freshest and most authentic products available.

Go early for the best selection. Spanish bakeries typically bake in the early morning, and the most popular items sell out by noon. If you want the widest variety of breads and pastries, plan your visit between opening time and 11:00 AM. This is also when the coffee is freshest and the atmosphere is most vibrant.

Ask about the baking schedule. Not all bakeries bake everything on-site every day. Some may receive deliveries from a central kitchen, while others bake specific loaves only on certain days. A quick question to the staff about what came out of the oven most recently will help you identify the freshest options.

Look for whole grains and long fermentation. For health-conscious buyers, many modern bakeries now label their loaves with flour types and fermentation times. Sourdough and whole wheat options often offer better digestibility and flavor complexity. Do not hesitate to ask if a bread is made with masa madre (sourdough starter).

Consider the time of day for pastries. A croissant that is flaky and perfect at 9:00 AM may be soft and stale by 4:00 PM. If you are buying pastries for an afternoon snack, look for items that hold up well, such as dense cakes, cookies, or empanadas. Save the delicate laminated doughs for the morning.

Support family-run shops. Many of the best bakeries near Alhambra are small, independent businesses that rely on neighborhood loyalty. By choosing these over industrial chains, you are not only getting a more authentic product but also helping preserve the character of the area. Regular customers often receive the warmest service and the occasional extra pastry thrown in for free.

The joy of exploring a neighborhood through its bakeries lies in the small discoveries you make along the way. Perhaps it is a hidden courtyard behind a storefront, a baker who remembers your order, or a regional specialty you have never tried before. These moments turn a simple errand into a memorable part of your day.

Whether you are a local looking to switch up your morning routine or a traveler seeking an authentic taste of Madrid, the bakeries near Alhambra offer a delicious education in Spanish baking. Take your time, ask questions, and do not be afraid to try something new. After all, the best bakery is often the one that feels like home.
