Stepping away from the golden sand of the Plaza de Toros de la Real Maestranza, the historic heart of Seville offers a culinary landscape as dramatic as the bullfights themselves. The narrow, winding streets surrounding this iconic bullring are not just a haven for history buffs but a paradise for food lovers. Here, the tradition of "tapeo"—the art of hopping from bar to bar—is not merely a meal but a way of life.
Finding the perfect spot among the hundreds of establishments in the Arenal and Santa Cruz neighborhoods can feel overwhelming. You want to avoid the overpriced tourist traps with pre-made food while uncovering the authentic gems where locals gather. The best experiences are often hidden behind unassuming facades, where the sound of sizzling olive oil and clinking glasses spills onto the cobblestones.
This guide focuses on quality over quantity, highlighting venues that balance tradition with taste. Whether you are looking for a quick bite of jamón ibérico before a tour or a leisurely evening of montaditos and manzanilla, the area surrounding the Maestranza has something for every palate. We have prioritized places known for fresh ingredients, atmospheric settings, and genuine Sevillian hospitality.
The proximity to the Guadalquivir River means that many of these bars offer stunning views to accompany your meal. However, the true magic lies in the atmosphere: the rush of the waiters, the chalkboards listing daily specials, and the distinct aroma of garlic and seafood. It is a sensory experience that defines the culture of Andalusia.
Below, we have curated a list of the ten best tapas bars within walking distance of the bullring. Each recommendation offers a distinct flavor of the city, from classic bullfighter haunts to modern, innovative kitchens. Prepare to stand at the bar, order loudly, and eat with your hands—this is the authentic way to experience Seville.

Great spot - thought the tapas potions were generous and well priced.
Had to wait 5-10 minutes for a table but food came pretty quickly when we got there.
Standouts were the pork in whiskey sauce and Camembert with blueberry jam. Sangria was also delicious!

I came in on a Sunday via train and most places’ kitchen were closed so they were a life saver. I liked the aesthetic of the place. Food was pretty good. I expected the portions to be smaller than what they actually were. I shared with my dad and he went in for seconds when it came to oxtails. It was my first time having it and had no expectations but it had good flavor and tender

Just a walk-in turned into an amazin meal. Everyting was fresh and tasty. Ox tail was my personal favorite. Staff was vonderful and friendly. Drinks could be a litte colder but I can not complain. Paid 63€ for 4 people.

This place has great food! The portions were huge, even though it was tapas-sized. The food was very traditional Spanish, both in taste and decor style. A kind gentleman staff member was always there to help me as a rather helpless tourist sitting in the corner. The service seemed great to me. No wait at the time I came, obviously because it wasn’t local people’s usual lunch time as the queue got long enough by the time I finished.

Myself and partner went into this place blind tested. It did not disappoint. It was very busy, we arrived around 8pm. We ordered a few plates of tapas and a few drinks. I went for whisky and coke. Which I found reasonably priced, My partner had a coke and a beer. I used the bathroom facilities in the establishment and they were clean. We enjoyed the the food. I especially enjoyed the ox tail. Would definitely eat in this place again. We found the bill to be pretty reasonable.

The atmosphere of the place is really cozy, and has nice vibe.
There is a variety of tapas, everything was good and the price was also really good.
I didn’t have a favorite dish everything was good hut nothing stood up.
Nice place to try a bunch of dishes

We stumbled across this restaurant local to our accommodation and decided to give it a go. The restaurant was busy, there was good variety on the menu and the prices were good too.
I chose the pork cheek, which was particularly good. The meat was so tender and flavoursome, with a small accompanying portion of fries.
The sangria too was good and brilliantly priced at €3.50.
Two of my family ordered the chicken breast plate. Again, great value, but whilst one was cooked well, the first cut into the portion revealed that it wasn't just undercooked - rather raw.
We pointed this out to serving staff, an apology was offered and the chicken returned to the grill. It came back a few minutes later, properly cooked and piping hot - except for the fries, which based on their temperature, hadn't been changed.
Service was of an acceptable standard but bordered on being slightly cold and frosty. Whilst staff did correct the uncooked chicken dish, we [perhaps reasonably] expected somebody to come and ensure our satisfaction when the meal was re-served. That unfortunately didn't happen.
For the food, the restaurant was good. For the service, it was simply rather average and frankly forgettable.

Tradicional taste.
Service and atmosphere:
We received very good customer service. It was helpful and friendly.
The restaurant was super cozy, clean, well decorated and had great vibe.
Food and drinks:
Both were very good too.
Traditional food with lots of flavours and homely preparations. The right amount of seasoning and spices.
Good selection of wines and other beverages.
Pricing:
€€ - entire experience was worth the price.

Really enjoyed the authentic flavors here. The portions are generous and the prices feel fair for the quality. It’s a cozy and welcoming place, definitely worth a visit.

Great food quality. The oxtail and pork cheeks were both very tender and flavorful. I did find both had similar taste, perhaps due to them using the same gravy. Service was quick and friendly.

This is the best tapas bar if you want to experience a truly local and convivial atmosphere. It’s always packed, though. Even though I don’t speak Spanish, other customers helped me out, and the staff were incredibly kind and welcoming. The food was delicious, the ambience was great, and I even met a gentleman who unexpectedly paid my bill, as well as the bill of a French couple sitting next to me. I didn’t understand what was happening at first, but if he ever comes across this comment, I would love to thank him properly and get in touch. The charm of Spain I would say.

we had been coming to this place everyday for our 3 days stay in Silvia. food and drinks are cheap and delicious. always packed with people so there were not many seats available, most people stand . Definitely check thus place out if you are around .

Thank you Senor Manuel for being patient with us! He was super friendly and nice. You are the best!!!!
We just went up to the bar and ordered with no problem. The serving time was super fast!
We were able to grab a seat later on and made friends with people sitting around us.
Everything was delicious and so much fun!
Highly recommended just for the experience but food was also good.
Huevas fritas was our favorite😋

Tapas start at just over 3 euros, which is an amazing price for a location in the heart of a major city like Seville. Plus, the food is delicious. The waitstaff are attentive, and the place is bustling with energy. It’s a tapas bar that left me feeling nothing but satisfied.
There are only about four tables on the terrace. It was lucky to get a seat here?

One of the best lunches I’ve had in Seville ! Just fancied a salad , so ordered the Special salad , not knowing what I would get - it was absolutely amazing, a warm salad with roasted pork , grated egg & cheese , tomato, young broad beans lettuce and topped with caviar -delicious! Sorry about the photo but I had eaten half of it before I remembered to take a photo 🫣 we also had the scrambled egg dishes - both delicious , all washed down with a bottle of local wine . Superb and around €20 per head - perfect !

An unexpected surprise! We ate so much delicious food in Spain prior to our last night in the country. We opted for the “set” menu so we weren’t expecting anything special. We were wrong! Some of the best food we had on our visit! The flamenco show was icing on the cake! It was soulful and passionate. Our last night in the country did not disappoint thanks to this experience!

Amazing food. Great tapas. Sometimes its little difficult to get a seat but luckily we got the seat faster. We loved all the tapas we ate and its very affordable. Very recommend.

Super crowded, not easy to find a place. Food is ok, but it is difficult to enjoy in a chaotic environment especially if you are standing at the counter. Piripi is the famous sandwich here. Tastes are nice but nothing so special. I would definitely suggest pepper filled with fish which is pimiento bellen. Some dishes names are added to captions of the pictures.

Our favorite restaurant in Seville was La Bartola. Delicious tapas, great sangria for less than 3 Euros and very friendly servers. We are still dreaming about the Iberian pork cheek stew over potato purée, the caponata, croquettes and homemade desserts. We ate there 3 times during our visit it is that good!

Really tasty food here! We ordered a few tapas and everything was great, especially the baby squid, swordfish roll, pig cheek, and beef.
Service was fast for the first round, but a bit slower on the second. The place has a great vibe, very lively at night and can get busy.
Prices are very reasonable. Overall, a great dinner spot.

We were there last Thursday for dinner and we weren't disappointed.
We've eaten a meal without paying a lot of money and the atmosphere was quite nice due to the smilling staff.
We've really enjoyed the food.
Everything was simply amazing so - in my opinion - you should visit "La Bartola" and you won't regret for no doubt! 🤩

The best food I had in all of Seville.. stopped by this place for late dinner during my recent trip to Seville and this place did not disappoint. We ordered their roasted lamb with cous cous, garlic shrimp croquetta (that was the croquetta of the day), pork cheek stew with potato purée and the chocolate panna cotta for dessert. We also ordered their sangria and tinto de verano. Every dish we ordered was AMAZING - tasty flavorful well seasoned melt in your mouth meat bursting with flavors. We devoured every bite and it was hard to pick a favorite. Both the lamb and pork dishes were 11/10. Not just the taste but the presentation of every tapa was fantastic. Their drinks were also great. The dessert was to die for.
This place is super packed during peak dinner hours and there is barely any room to stand. Since we walked in around 11pm, we got a seat and were well taken care of all thru the night. Also noticed alot of veggie options on the menu which was great. Service was awesome ambience is chic. I am certain I am going to crave their tapas once I am back home. Highly highly recommend this place when in Seville.

We tried several things, the anchovies, cheese, sushi verdura, stuffed zucchini, tataki de salmon, thai red rice as well as eggplant salad. The thai red rice was our least favourite but everything else was delicious. There is always a line up here around dinner time but the staff are amazing and get the line moving quickly. We were impressed with our server as she was gracefully attending to a dozen tables and didn't forget any of our requests.

This place covers all the Andalusian tradition dishes without going places. Love the tapas portions so you can try all different kind of dishes without overstuffed and breaking the wallet. The portions are generous; the staffs are diligent and welcoming; both food and service are supreme and such a pleasant satisfying lunch!

El Postiguillo is exactly the kind of place you hope to find in Sevilla. Authentic, lively, and rooted in the city’s rhythm without feeling touristy. The food delivers across the board, with well-executed tapas, fresh ingredients, and flavors that feel both traditional and intentional. It is the kind of menu where you can order freely and trust that everything will hit.
What really elevated the experience was the service. Pepe took incredible care of us. He was attentive without hovering, genuinely warm, and clearly proud of what he was serving. He guided us through the menu with ease, made great recommendations, and kept the energy of the table exactly where it should be.
Great food and even better hospitality. If you go, ask for Pepe.

The pork shop with whiskey sauce was amazing!
Eggplant 🍆 was pretty good too!
Enjoyed the meal there and the I’ll definitely go back and try some more in the future!
The cocktail wasn’t impressed with kinda similar with mojito but not really~

The staff was very nice. The tortilla was a little too oily, but the flavor was really good, especially with the garlic. The ensaladilla was good as well, although there was slightly too much mayo. Unfortunately, the eggplant sticks were disappointing, and I couldn’t really taste the Moroccan spices they were supposed to have. However, the smoked sardines were really delicious !

We visited Bar Postiguillo Tapas between 17:00 and 18:00 in the evening. The atmosphere is truly unique and stands out from other places. One big advantage is their opening hours, which are more flexible compared to other local restaurants.
You can clearly feel the chef’s special touch in the Tapas, the flavors are different and more refined than usual. The portions are generous and satisfying for two people. The service was fast. Although the staff don’t speak much English but they are enough kindly.
Thank you 🙏🏼

Islamorada restorana: Our waiter, Mr. Williams came to our table and asked “okay, French, English, Spanish” we answered “عربي" and out of all the restaurants we passed by, we picked the one where a Sevillian Lebanese gentleman greeted us. We gladly put aside the menus and simply said we would like fish dishes so please your expertise. He had suggested the sword fish since it is a true Andalusian dish, and I wanted sardines so the next best thing available was anchovies, which were the star dish personally speaking and to my sister as well a lovely meal. Crispy, succulent and excellently prepared. The calamari was a bit too salty for our palates but would kindly suggest less salt next times. There was another dish, two anchovies each on a piece of long crispy bread, also this would go according to different tastes of palates, so personally speaking, I’ve tried it once and I think is enough. In total we had five dishes, grilled shrimps, two different anchovy dishes, calamari and swordfish.
Star dish: Fried Anchovies (well prepared, well cleaned and excellently seasoned). Crispy, tasty, well cooked and absolutely deliciosa!!!!
Maybe again: Perhaps calamari but just less salt please. Well prepared. The swordfish has a definite Andalusian twist with the sweet succulent green chalapas.
Wouldn’t order again: shrimps (unfortunately not cleaned but alright in taste, and not well grilled, please know I am a true fish eater and have tasted all sorts of fish and seafood from the gulf peninsula to the Mediterranean Sea and baltics, both river and sea fish) so my choices will certainly NOT disappoint and ofcourse I will try to be as kind and fair as possible since the waiters Alberto and Williams were at the utmost respect and welcoming so deserves the visit! 🇪🇸🙌🏻💃🏼.
FYI, shrimp price wasn’t on the menu, so I’m not sure how much we were charged for it, kindly ask and verify.

Very warm and welcoming staff which was a great start to the meal.
The food was excellent and I could see why it had such a good rating already.
Started with the Pareja De Gildas which were delicious little skewers.
Next up were the Croquetas De La Abulea which were also excellent. Crunchy, gooey, and perfectly cheesy with jamon.
Lastly the tapas version of the Carrillera Iberica En Salsa. Tender meat, tasty sauce.
Highly recommend a stop here.

Quiet, warm place serving delicious authentic tapas in generous portions.
We went here for dinner and were met with lovely service.
Good tinto de verano and house white wines. The tortilla with ruffle is a must try!! The best thing we ordered . The patata bravas were also crispy and light and the pardon pepper were generous.
We really enjoyed the pork cheeks, the sauce was rich and very flavourful.
Overall an excellent meal, would love to come again.

Wow, hands down one of the best restaurants in Seville. Great prices, high-quality products, and a service that is both warm and professional. I went several times during my stay in Sevilla, and everything we ordered was phenomenal every single time. I could have dinner there every single day.
Essential Tips for Enjoying Tapas Near the Bullring
Navigating the tapas scene in Seville requires a bit of local knowledge to maximize your experience. The rhythm of dining here is different, and understanding the unwritten rules will help you blend in and eat better. Here are some practical tips to ensure your culinary tour near the Plaza de Toros is a resounding success.
1. Time Your Visit Like a Local
Sevillanos eat late. Lunch typically starts around 2:00 PM, and dinner rarely begins before 9:00 PM. If you arrive at a tapas bar at 7:00 PM, you will likely find it empty or closed. Use the off-hours to enjoy a coffee or a cold beer, but arrive early or late for the prime food atmosphere.
2. Embrace the "Barra" (The Counter)
The bar is the best seat in the house. It allows you to see the tapas displayed in the glass case and point directly at what you want. Eating at the bar is also often faster and more authentic than waiting for a table, and it gives you a front-row seat to the theater of the waiters.
3. Order in Rounds
Do not order everything at once. Start with one or two cold dishes or a drink, then assess your hunger. The pace of service is fast, but the experience is meant to be leisurely. Ordering in rounds allows you to try the house specialty and prevents food from getting cold while you wait.
4. Look for "Especialidades de la Casa"
Every reputable tapas bar has a signature dish that keeps locals coming back. It might be a specific type of croqueta, a slow-cooked stew, or a unique cut of pork. Look for handwritten signs on the wall or ask the waiter, "¿Cuál es la especialidad?" to ensure you don’t miss the highlight of the menu.
5. Pay Attention to the Napkins
It sounds strange, but the state of the floor can tell you a lot about a bar. A floor littered with used napkins and toothpicks is a sign of a busy, high-turnover establishment where food is fresh. It indicates a lively atmosphere where people are comfortable standing and eating. A spotless floor near the bullring often means a place caters primarily to tourists.
6. Don’t Skip the "Tapa" vs. "Ración" Distinction
A "tapa" is a small plate, usually enough for one or two bites per person. A "media ración" is a half portion, and a "ración" is a full plate. If you are with a group, ordering several "medias raciones" to share is often the best value and allows you to sample a wider variety of the menu.
Exploring the area around the Maestranza is a journey through the soul of Seville. As the sun sets and the crowds disperse, the tapas bars begin to hum with the energy of the night. Taking the time to wander slowly, rather than rushing to a single destination, will lead you to hidden courtyards and bustling corners you might otherwise miss.
Ultimately, the best tapas experience is the one that feels unforced. Let the aromas guide you, be willing to squeeze into a crowded bar, and don’t be afraid to ask for a recommendation. The memories of shared plates and lively conversation are the true taste of this remarkable city.
