Standing in the shadow of Madrid’s grand Catedral de la Almudena, you are at the historic heart of Spain. The area surrounding the cathedral is a vibrant tapestry of royal palaces, medieval squares, and bustling markets. Choosing to stay in this neighborhood places you within walking distance of the city’s most treasured landmarks.
The Palacio Real district, often called "Madrid de los Austrias," offers a unique atmosphere that blends regal elegance with authentic local life. Narrow cobblestone streets open onto sprawling plazas filled with street musicians and outdoor cafés. It is a sensory-rich environment where history is not just seen but felt.
However, the sheer volume of accommodation options can be overwhelming for travelers. From converted 16th-century convents to modern boutique apartments, the quality and character vary significantly. Finding a hotel that balances location, comfort, and value requires careful consideration.
Your choice of hotel here impacts more than just your sleep quality. It determines whether you wake up to views of the cathedral dome or the quiet hum of a hidden courtyard. It influences how easily you can return for a midday siesta before tackling the nearby Gran Vía.
As a visitor, you likely want more than just a bed; you want an immersive experience. Proximity to the Almudena means you can visit the crypt during off-peak hours or enjoy a quiet morning coffee in the Plaza de Oriente before the tour buses arrive. The right hotel acts as your gateway to this exclusive rhythm of life.
This curated guide focuses on properties that offer exceptional access to the cathedral while providing distinct amenities. Whether you are a luxury seeker, a history buff, or a family on a budget, the area has something tailored to your needs. We have analyzed location, service quality, and atmosphere to bring you the definitive list.
Below, you will find the best places to stay near this iconic monument, followed by essential tips to help you navigate the booking process like a local expert.

We had an absolutely wonderful stay at Central Palace Madrid! INCREDIBLE SERVICE!!! UNBEATABLE LOCATION—right across from the Royal Palace—with convenient parking nearby and easy access to Madrid’s main attractions.
We were warmly welcomed with a complimentary bottle of champagne, a thoughtful touch that made us feel special from the moment we arrived. Our room was spacious, luxurious, clean and had stunning views of the Royal Palace.
A special thank you to Jose for his exceptional hospitality and service. He was professional, friendly, and incredibly helpful throughout our stay.
Breakfast with a view of the Royal Palace was another highlight. We were also lucky enough to be in Madrid during FIFA World Cup finals, making our visit even more unforgettable.
We highly recommend Central Palace Madrid and would happily stay here again!

Lovely little “affordable” (as far as Madrid prices are concerned) hostal in the middle of Madrid in a really nice neighborhood with lotanof cafes and restaurants nearby. The taxi I took frm airport could not find the street as it is a pedestrian street mostly but if you book the taxi to airport via the hotel, the taxi can stop right in front of the hostal and costs 33 euros which is the set fee for an airport transfer. The door to the hostal is not obvious - there is a small sign right besides a big brown door right in front of a café. You enter the door, then turn right, up ancouple of steps to a lift, then to the first floor where the reception is. The receptionist was very nice and friendly. I opted for the cheaper room that was at the top on the 6th floor. It said “bathroom accessible via stairs”. What this means is that it was accessible via a ladder! A little bit unsafe for me to pee at night. It felt a bit like cinderella’s tower. A small single bed. A closet. It was all clean and in good order though. A bit dated but I personally like that style to be honest. The safe did not work. I just do wonder how they are able to clean that bathroom! The cleaner deserves a raise for that. Overall I really liked the hotel and would stay again. I know the other double rooms are very spacious.

The service was very good. ദ്ദി(ᵔᗜᵔ)
The elevator was broken.🛗 So they offered to bring our bags to the room and gave us a free breakfast. 🥐
She was friendly and knew English.
There was a kitchen in our room. But no plates. So kinda useless. Also just 1 tea bag per person. Free drinks though. 🍸
Lots of sounds in the room. It sounds almost like the other guests are in your room.
The rooms are very big.
The temperature is good.

We had room 502 which was on the 6th floor. Largest room ever plus private rooftop patio. It was slightly dated but clean and fully functional. And the AC worked great. Highly recommend.

Stayed at Central Palace Madrid and had a really good experience. The location is perfect, everything is a walking distance.
The staff were all really friendly and helpful, which makes a big difference. The room was clean, comfortable, and had everything I needed. The only thing missing is breakfast.
Would definitely stay here again.

Just want to start off by saying the location is amazing! Its very close to the Metro and it was easy to walk to the Plaza Mayor. Lots of life in the neighborhood with lots to see and do.
The staff was always very friendly and helpful. 5 Stars for service!
The rooms... small. The bathroom definitely does not feel like it belongs in a 4 star hotel. Its small, not well built and after taking a shower it feels so humid in the whole room its like there's not enough airflow circulating through their HVAC. I get that Europe typically doesn't do fans in their bathrooms but yikes. We definitely had to open our windows during showers to help with the humidity.
The bed was spacious and comfy however while laying down it was not pleasant looking up at ceiling. In our room there appeared to be some water damage? Not exactly sure but a pretty sizable brown stain on the ceiling.
Overall, I probably wouldn't stay here again.
Juané Schoeman★★★☆☆
I stayed here for 3 nights. My favorite thing about this hotel is the location, close enough to everything to walk but far enough to be out of the busy streets when it’s time to sleep (I was here for the FIFA final celebrations and was still able to sleep like a baby). I walked everywhere, never felt like I needed to use public transportation.
The room was perfect for a solo traveler - a single bed, closet, desk, and small fridge. I was also on the first floor, so I was able to pop in and out really easily by using the stairs. They provide shampoo, conditioner, and body wash, but only one set of towels. There is a hairdryer and a towel warming rack. Windows open with no issues, and AC is very good. Front desk speaks English.
Now for the downside and why I took away two stars… my bathroom had no shower curtain or wall, which is fine if the drain worked properly. The first night I noticed the shower wasn’t draining properly, but it wasn’t bad enough to be alarmed as it was only in the bathroom and resolved quickly once I was done. The next day I decided to wash my hair (so a longer shower) and the whole bathroom flooded, it was so bad that the water went into the bedroom (down the little ramp) and soaked my luggage and items on the floor. I had to clean it up and do a load of laundry. After this happened the whole room and bathroom smelled bad.
I didn’t try the breakfast nor the restaurant downstairs, so I can’t speak on those. There are so many good restaurants, coffee shops, and a supermarket nearby.
For the location alone, I would stay here again, but I’d probably pay a little more for a better room (and have them check the drain).
Fabrizio Francioso★★★★☆
Hotel Opera is located in a perfect location for taking advantage of all one can do and see in the centre of Madrid. The Royal Palace, Plaza Major, the Mercado de San Miguel, la Gran Via, the Thyssen Bornemisza museum and, of course, the Opera theatre are only a stroll away. The area is bubbling of shopping opportunities, restaurants and bar of any sort. And if that is not enough the metro, almost behind the corner, gives you access to everything else. In the hotel the staff is extremely helpful, polite and discreet. The breakfast is rich and tasty and offers enough to get you going through the day without thinking of lunch. The rooms are very clean and reasonably spacious. However the style comes across as slightly outdated and overall a bit tired. The shower deserves a special mention for its generous size and the water flow which offers pressure and consistency of temperature that, with well functioning drain, make for a very enjoyable experience. Less enjoyable is the smell that sometimes can be perceived in the stairways or along the corridors revealing, perhaps, some hidden humidity issues. Overall a very good value for money accommodation even if some very demanding clientele may be disappointed.

My wife and I are returning to the UK this morning after a 3 night break with some friends. We have had a lovely time which was enhanced by our stay in Hotel Opera. It is in an excellent location within easy walking distance of many interesting sights and venues. The hotel is well maintained to a very high standard and has excellent amenities available for guests. The best part of our hotel experience was the level of service provided by all of the excellent staff in all areas of the hotel. In particular, the reception staff and a shout out must go to Luis Miguel and Andrea who, when I initially checked in, immediately leapt into action to retrieve an important bag which i had inadvertently left in a taxi. I had no record of which taxi I had used but they managed to swiftly track the driver down and retrieve my bag. I am so grateful for their help and I felt that they definitely put my needs first and made my stay in the hotel a lovely experience. We will definitely be back. Thank you!

We had an excellent experience during our overnight stay at Hotel Ópera. The location is superb, offering convenient access to the surrounding area and making it easy to get around. The hotel’s interior design is particularly impressive, reflecting a high level of attention to detail and aesthetic quality.
Our room was clean, well-maintained, and compact yet entirely adequate for a comfortable stay. The reception team was consistently polite, professional, and accommodating. The front desk manager, in particular, was exceptionally helpful — attentive to our needs and always willing to assist, even on multiple occasions.
While the breakfast selection was somewhat varied, the overall experience was very positive. The quality of service truly stands out and makes this hotel easy to recommend. We look forward to returning in the future.

Rooms were clean, pretty quiet too! Location is perfect, very near the centre and other attractions. Staff were very friendly and helpful, they gave us a list of nearest go to restaurants and bars. We also had breakfast, which was really, really good and worth the price. Thank you for the lovely stay!

It is located in La Latina - one of the oldest if not the oldest neighborhood in Madrid. The building itself is historic as it dates back to 1868. it is a boutique hotel so the rooms tend to be smaller but are equipped with a mini-fridge. The staff is attentive and are always working to ensure a pleasant stay. There is so many things to do near the hotel as the location is ideal.

Excelente location and frindly people. Walkable to many attractions but the best part was the Tapa bars right there, on the same street. I highly recommend it.

CHARMING, LOVELY, PERFECT.
Our balcony over the road was something we throughly enjoyed. The ringing church bells on Sunday were devine.
The location was exactly what we wanted. Sitting in the heart of tapa paradise, with friends gathering all around in the evening for wonderful times and food.
Speaking of which the hotel itself has its own hopping little bar area, and multiple areas to have a nice dining experience from their own restaurant.
Staff was wonderful and the rooms were A+.
Clean and quiet, great decor, super linens, and COMFORTABLE BEDS!!!!
Would stay here again and again.
Thank you for the wonderful stay! ♡

Very nice boutique hotel in one of the best touristic areas in Madrid. Room was comfortable, clean and neat. A/C worked perfectly, even in late fall. 5 minute walk to Plaza Mayor, steps away from La Latina restaurants and night life.
Parking can be challenging, but there are public underground parking spots within a 10 minute walk. Lobby has a bar/coffee bar.
Note that breakfast bar may not be included on rate and it is $30. there are plenty of places for breakfast within a short walk.

Recommended place to stay in central Madrid - in front of the royal castle, on the back of the opera house. Rooms cosy and stylish, however noisy - tons of tourists just outside the windows.

The location is good but the rooms are not very private as you can hear alla the voices from outside the room like they are inside in the room. Also rooms are not very cured in details. Location is the best, walk distance from everywhere!

From the minute, we walked into the pretty lobby and were graciously greeted by Mariana, we felt welcome to have a beautiful hotel in a beautiful location. Prior to our arrival, she communicated very clearly with helpful information and tips.
She showed us up to our comfortable room on the first floor with french doors on a balcony and a lovely window that both opened and looked out over the manicured park and the Royal Palace.
The room was tastefully decorated with a crystal chandelier on the ceiling, a sitting area at the window, and a fantastic bathroom. It even had a magnifying mirror on the wall.
Housekeeping came every day with fresh towels linens and coffee, water, etc.
The café/restaurant below has an arrangement with the hotel for a €10 breakfast. The restaurant itself is absolutely beautiful and the service is superb. Our hearty and delicious breakfast kept us going until late lunch every day.
If you note the word, “beautiful” has been used over and over, it’s because that’s what our experience was at Oriente Palace Apartments!

Excellent Stay – Perfect Location and Impeccable Cleanliness
I had a wonderful stay at this hotel. The location is absolutely perfect – just a few minutes away from all the important sights, restaurants, and attractions. It made getting around incredibly easy and stress-free.
The room was spotless and exceptionally clean, with great attention to detail that really made a difference. Everything was well-maintained and thoughtfully arranged.
Despite being so close to everything, the hotel is very quiet and peaceful – a true oasis in the city. The owners were kind, attentive, and clearly care about offering guests the best possible experience.
Highly recommended for anyone looking for comfort, convenience, and a touch of care in every detail!

Great place to cap off our trip to Spain. There seemed to be a front desk attendant always present even though the hours said he shouldnt be there so late (or early!) We had the smaller top floor room, the Don Quijote, and the deck was nice for views and sunbathing, though it did have half shade basically at all times. It got a nice breeze too. Plus, the outside shower is nice for cooling down.
As others said, it’s walking distance to quite a lot, including the palace.
The flooring by the door was too thick so you have to actually slam the door to shut it, and yank to open. If you try to just let it close behind you, it wont. I felt like we disturbed neighbors with the slamming and I did occasionally hear another next to us slam a few times too.
There is no freezer in this room, just a fridge, so if you plan to use ice or store ice cream, you’d be disappointed.
The room was surprisingly quiet, especially with a white noise playlist going. Every morning, even with all windows closed, the unit smells like a wood burning stove, as does the outside. I suppose someone in the area is still using that tech, but I couldnt see smoke. That said, it never smelled like sewer or dirty pipes in there the way other hotels we stayed in did.
We would stay here again if we were to travel back to the area.
Paola Caronni★★★★★
It was the BEST choice for location, quietness, comfort, cleanliness, and convenience. We came straight to Sol ( the closest metro) by train from the airport in 30 minutes, paying only 2.60 euros, and then walked for 5 minutes to reach the serviced apartments. Next to them, a supermarket, restaurants, coffee shops and amenities. From there, we walked almost to any spot in Madrid that we planned to visit. The receptionists were all super kind and willing to help with any possible need/requests. Super recommended! We will definitely go back.
Kristine Sweigart★★★★★
We stayed in this hotel for a vacation from the US. We picked it for its central location to the train station and many things we could walk to. We had a terrace apartment on the top floor which was huge compared to the other European hotels I have stayed it. We also had a big glass shower. We had a fully equipped kitchen which we didn’t use to cook but the refrigerator and microwave were handy for reheating leftovers for breakfast. They only provide coffee the first day but there is a grocery store less than 50m that you can buy just about anything at. The front desk was helpful and friendly. I would definitely recommend staying here. Even though we were about a half mile from Plaza Mayor, we couldn’t hear a peep.

Great place to stay, reception is not in the same location but very easy to get to and you get to enjoy a walk through the city! Fab room (I booked the one with private balcony and bathroom) room was very clean, staff friendly and helpful and mobile app easy to navigate. Very pleasant stay and will defenitly book again when I go back to Madrid. The location of the room was beautiful, close to all the sights that Madrid has to offer and metro services are close if you would like to venture away from the centre.

Great location! The room was fine, very tight fit with all of mine and my partners belongings - almost impossible to move without one of us on the bed. The bed was fine but had a weird dip in the middle which got really uncomfortable on night 3 .
The worst is the check in process and everything being on an app, it for some reason gives an option to skip the id verification - which we did. We had access to our room for two nights until they randomly deactivated our “key” due to us not completing the verification. There was only notice of this after the fact. We were stuck outside the apartment for 45+ minutes with all of our belongings inside, luckily we had our passports on us. We completed the process but still couldn’t get in until it had been approved, it took multiple messages on different platforms and took ages for someone to reply to us. When we said that it was stressful they just put the blame on us.
On top of that, the app only works about 50% of the time to actually open the doors.
The cleaners were lovely when we ran into them in the hall, and the room was fresh when we arrived.
An incredibly frustrating experience!

Stayed at this hotel for 7 nights. The only good thing about this hotel is the air conditioning which does a great job of keeping room cool during the summer months, the location as it is very very central and how comfortable the bed was at night. Despite all of this, there is no onsite reception so it was nearly impossible to sort out leaving bags early before check-in. Another annoying aspect which was brought to the attention of the staff was that one of the legs on the bed was broken for the duration of our stay, and nothing was done to rectify the situation. The walls are paper thin and we had to make several complaints regarding noisy guests. All in all this was not a pleasant experience for us and we had to stay in a hotel elsewhere as a result of having a broken bed. Would not recommend

Reviewing this place is according to what we have been truly experienced, an honest review and no more no less on staying for 3 nights.
If you want to ruin your vacation this is the best place to stay. Here is why. The dirt on the floor which is on the picture was there from the night we got in there until the end of our stay. The bed we had was the worst. It was making noise a lot. I called, wrote a message and reported it, they didn’t do anything. shower is very slippery, shower heads are very dirty. Failed digital door. We woken the guess next to our room because the door was like clogged we cannot open it. you can hear what the next room is talking about. There is no sound proofing of the rooms. You can even hear if someone is walking outside your door. Cleanliness of the building as well is a failure. It smells like molded.
Elizabeth Williams★☆☆☆☆
The room was tiny and not clean which did not look like the photo's on line. No room for suit cases and could barely move around the bed.
The noise from the street was terrible so we were unable to sleep.
The bathrooms were very ordinary and all the door handles were squeaky.
You can hear your room mates threw the walls and the noise appeared to travel loudly down the corridor.
Overall not a good experience.

We stayed 2 nights midweek and were pleasantly surprised. Location is super central literally next to the Royal Palace. The rooms were a little dated but perfectly adequate and clean. Lobby area, restaurant and bar are nicely decorated and we give this hotel a solid three star rating.

Extremely disappointing experience. I booked this hotel because it was advertised as pay at the property, and I provided my card details only because they were required to confirm the reservation. I never checked in, yet I was still charged for one night's stay.
The cancellation charge was never disclosed during the booking process. If this had been made clear, I would never have made the reservation. Despite contacting the hotel and explaining the situation, they flatly refused to issue any refund or make any effort to resolve the matter.
This feels highly misleading and reflects a complete lack of transparency and customer care. A booking advertised as "pay at the property" should not result in unexpected charges without clearly informing guests in advance.
Based on my experience, I cannot recommend this hotel. I strongly advise future guests to be extremely cautious and scrutinize every term and condition before making a reservation.

Great location and even better service. The hotel is perfectly located for exploring Madrid, but what really makes it special is the staff. I highly recommend this hotel and would definitely stay here again

Very comfortable, clean and modern rooms. We had the junior suite and it was plenty spacious for 3 adults. Super well situated with easy walking to all the sites and neighborhoods. The water temperature in the shower is a bit tricky so one has to be cautious.

Very good stay overall. The location near the Royal Palace is excellent, with easy access to the metro, shops, and beautiful walking areas, including a large green park just nearby.
The staff were very friendly and helpful, including allowing an early check-in and storing my luggage after check-out. The room was spacious and very well soundproofed despite facing the street.
The hotel itself and the rooms feel a bit outdated, and the bathtub/shower design was not very practical as water easily splashed onto the bathroom floor.
Breakfast offered a good variety of basic options, although the selection remained exactly the same during my four-day stay.
Overall, a comfortable and well-located hotel with very kind st

Nice hotel in a good location in Madrid. We stayed here during a heatwave (40 C) and the air conditioning was ice cold the entire time! The staff are friendly, helpful, and English speaking. The assigned room was on the ground floor, which caused a great deal of noise, both from other rooms and from passersby on the street. Furthermore, it wasn't possible to raise the blinds without being completely exposed, which compromised privacy and natural light.
The cleanliness was adequate, but the room smelled musty.
On the first day, a towel was missing, which we only received after requesting it. According to the hotel's rules, rooms should be cleaned daily (even though towels were changed every three days). However, no one came to clean at any point during our stay. There was also no sign indicating that cleaning was required, so we relied on the written rules.
When I informed the accommodation contact on the third day, I received no response.
For accommodation that charges over €200 per night, one expects a much higher level of service and customer care. This is an aspect they should definitely improve.

Small rooms that are concerned with posting signs everywhere of what you can’t do instead of providing amenities. Why have so many signs to not put luggage on the desk without adding a luggage rack? Customer service isn’t rude but surely isn’t hospitable. Low priced for a reason but I absolutely wouldn’t be back.

From the start I had many issues with this place. They made me run around the city back and forth from their office and my room because they failed to send me a final contract to sign before my arrival. However, they were happy to collect all my money beforehand. After making my first day a living nightmare, they continued to cause all sorts of other issues throughout my stay. They consistently just drop by for room tours and open your rooms without consent or sufficient notice ahead of time. They consistently threaten to fine our apartment for not keeping the most random things clean. Additionally, they decided to charge every single person in our apartment 50 euros because a few people were being too loud in the main living area and got a noise complaint from a neighbour. Instead of reasonably addressing the issue, they continued to drag it out over the course of a month and insist that we provide evidence that we were not there so we are not to be fined. They also have cameras all around the apartment that they did not mention prior to booking, that were also were conveniently not working when this alleged “party” was taking place giving them the right to charge our whole apartment. Do not live here, find somewhere else to stay if you don’t want unnecessary headaches. The rooms and place are fairly nice, but everything else makes it a nightmare to deal with.

For some reason, they had a DJ in the foyer until 22.30 on a Tuesday, which was pretty annoying because you it was loud in the rooms and I was trying to work.
The breakfast is pretty poor: a coffee and a croissant or muffin is all you get.
Good location, staff were nice, room was fine but not very well soundproofed so you could hear all the doors banging on your floor (as well as the Tuesday night DJ)

The worst hotel I have ever stayed in.
I stayed at Letoh Letoh Gran Vía in room 504, and it was an absolute nightmare.
The air conditioning did not work every evening and throughout the night. I reported the issue multiple times, but the hotel only pretended to solve the problem. They told me that a technician had repaired the air conditioner, but nothing changed. It remained broken for my entire stay.
Despite knowing that the room was unbearably hot, the hotel refused to move me to another room. As a result, I spent several nights unable to sleep because there was no cool air and almost no ventilation.
The attitude of the reception staff was shocking. Instead of showing any concern, one receptionist was rude and dismissive, making it clear that my problem was an inconvenience rather than something the hotel should fix.
The management promised to review my case and refund part of the money for the nights when the air conditioning was not working. However, as soon as I checked out, they completely stopped responding to my WhatsApp messages. It is obvious that these promises were made only to stop me from complaining while I was still at the hotel.
The conditions became so unbearable that I even had a nosebleed on my last night.
This hotel has no respect for its guests. They ignore serious problems, make promises they never intend to keep, and hope that once you leave, you will simply give up.
I would strongly advise everyone to avoid this hotel. There are many places in Madrid that deserve your money—this is not one of them.

I recently stayed at Letoh Letoh, and while there are some distinct positives, the overall experience was dampened by a significant lack of hospitality.
The Location & Atmosphere
The absolute best thing about this hotel is its central location. You are paying for the convenience of being in the heart of the city, and in that regard, it delivers. The hotel itself has a very modern, nice aesthetic, and the housekeepers were notably friendly and hardworking.
Service & Communication
Unfortunately, the service in the common areas was a different story. Throughout my stay, I noticed a complete lack of warmth—no smiles or greetings from the lobby staff or the baristas. It felt as though once you checked in, the staff didn't want to be bothered.
They use WhatsApp for customer service, but the responses were very selective. Even simple inquiries often went ignored, which is frustrating when you are a paying guest expecting a basic level of attentiveness.
The Rooms
The rooms are modern but extremely small. If you book the smallest room, be prepared to live out of your suitcase. Even as a solo traveler, you have to get very creative with space—storing bags under the bed just to be able to move around. There is no real room for luggage or spreading out.
Final Thoughts
If this hotel weren't in such a prime location, I don’t think it would stay full. I hope the management takes this constructive criticism to heart. A little kindness and a more responsive approach to guest needs would go a long way in making this a truly "amazing" stay rather than just a convenient one.

⭐ Ordered a Quad Room – Great Location, Terrible Room Design
I booked a quad room, but it felt extremely cramped for four people. The room is very small and poorly designed. There are only 3 lockers for 4 guests, no safe box, nowhere to properly store clothes, and no dedicated space for luggage. We were constantly moving bags around just to have space to walk.
The bathroom setup is one of the worst I’ve experienced. The toilet is separated only by glass, offering almost no privacy, and there is no soundproofing at all. The sink is outside the toilet area, which is inconvenient and awkward when sharing the room with others.
To make things worse, all the room lights are controlled by a single switch, so one person can affect everyone else in the room. There isn’t even a TV. The room looks modern and stylish in photos, but the design clearly prioritizes appearance over comfort and practicality.
I also arrived a little early for check-in and was asked to pay an extra €10 for early access to the room, which felt unreasonable given the quality of the accommodation.
Another disappointing experience was their “complimentary drink” offer. At check-in, I was told that if I chose not to have my room cleaned, I would receive a complimentary drink. I agreed and skipped room cleaning for one day. When I later returned to reception, I was told the offer was only valid once for the entire stay. That important detail was never explained when I checked in, making the promotion feel misleading.
The only real positive is the location, which is excellent and within walking distance of many attractions. Without the location, this would easily be a 1-star review.
Overall, this place feels more like a budget hostel with a fancy design than a proper hotel.

I had an amazing experience at this hotel thank you so much! It was the perfect place to stay for my boyfriend and I’s first trip to Madrid and we would definitely stay here again every time.
Although the rooms aren’t huge, we didn’t need any bigger and it had everything we needed. Nespresso machine, hair dryer, shampoo and shower gel, safe, comfy bed and fluffy towels. The shower was lovely, really hot and good shower pressure. I also really liked the mirror in the hotel - the lights around it meant that it was the perfect spot for me to do my hair/makeup. The only thing was that the bathroom isn’t super private (frosted glass shower but can slightly see in). This was not a problem for us at all but may be something to bear in mind for some people.
We had a balcony which was the perfect spot to sit with our coffee and pastry in the morning from the hotel coffee shop - which was lovely! It also got the sun for a while and was such a good sun trap.
The location of the hotel was absolutely perfect - everything was within walking distance which was so good for sightseeing. It’s located just off of the Gran Via area with a 24 hour supermarket practically next door which was so handy.
The staff were lovely and couldn’t do enough for us! 5 stars all round, thank you 🙂

Overall, the hotel is clean, smells good, and the garden is beautiful, but it needs some refreshing, the pool area and the walls in the rooms. Only reason I gave a 4 to the hotel staff is because the housekeeping left a dirty glass in our sink, which wasn't ours, took our key card from the socket by the door when we left it there by mistake, and the coffee and milk were not replaced at all, but that may be because of the difference in standards between the United Kingdom and Spain. The location is perfect! Pool is clean, bar is nice, but working hours are 11-19:00, so early mornings and evenings are not possible.

Honestly best hotel I've ever stayed at. The sunset from the roof us a must. It's beautiful. The room was really nice bit of noise from the street but expected with balcony room. I'd stay here again for sure. Amazing stay. The staff were very helpful. The door to balcony wasn't working when we got there and someone came to fix it immediately. Also one of the sockets in the room was very loose and I didn't feel safe using it at all, definitely a hazard but I used a different one instead for my stay.

I really enjoyed my stay at Inhala.
We had a superior double room so a beautiful terrace and sun loungers came with the room. The bed was so comfortable and the bathroom was gorgeous. I was not expecting the room to be cleaned every day so thank you to the cleaners and their hard work.
The rooms do need updating they are tired and the walls are a bit shabby but I’m happy if somewhere is comfortable and clean.
The pool was stunning to say the least. The restaurant served gorgeous food.
The staff are helpful and the usual Madrid hospitality to be expected

I’d rate the rooms 3/5 overall, based on the average of the two rooms we stayed in during our visit.
We were initially assigned Room 440 and were disappointed by its condition. The room felt worn, with stained carpeting and dated finishes that didn’t match the photos on the hotel’s website. The bathroom also featured an unusual sand-under-plexiglass floor that wasn’t to our taste.
After the first night, we spoke with the front desk again. The gentleman who assisted us listened to our concerns and quickly moved us to a newly updated room at no extra charge. The difference was significant, and the new room was excellent. His customer service turned the experience around.
The hotel’s location is outstanding—right in the heart of Madrid, steps from Gran Vía and with a Metro station directly across the street. The property is attractive, parts of it have been nicely renovated, and the staff are friendly and accommodating.
One thing I would skip is the breakfast buffet. At €16 per person, it didn't offer great value. We tried it on our first morning, but for the next two days we chose to explore nearby cafés instead. Given the location, you're surrounded by countless cafés and bakeries within a short walk where you can enjoy a better and more authentic breakfast experience for the same price or less.
Overall, I would recommend this hotel, but I suggest paying close attention to the room type you book, as the quality can vary considerably.
This hotel should be getting 4.5+ ratings if the rooms were better based on location and the great staff but I can see why they are stuck between 3.5-4.0 stars.

Majestic decor in a strategically-located area downtown Madrid. 360-degree views of Madrid's skyline and nearby green areas. Worth taking bath suit, flip flops and towel for a full experience in its rooftop pool. During the Pride Week, don't feel guilty for not looking at every detail of the terrace, and instead, admiring the sculptural bodies passing by or having a calm, respectful bath.
Refreshing vertical garden, although not as accessible as it deserves. The hotel offers tour guides at set hours, for about 25 Euros.
Essential Tips for Choosing Your Hotel Near the Cathedral
Before you finalize your reservation, it is wise to understand the logistical nuances of this historic neighborhood. The area around the Almudena is pedestrian-friendly, but it also has restrictions that can surprise first-time visitors. The following advice will help you avoid common pitfalls and maximize your stay.
Prioritize Soundproofing
The Plaza de la Armería and surrounding streets can be lively late into the night, especially during festivals or weekends. Street performers, late-night revelers, and early morning delivery trucks are common. Always check recent guest reviews specifically mentioning noise levels, and request a room facing an interior courtyard if you are a light sleeper.
Confirm Accessibility Needs
While the area is flat compared to other parts of Madrid, many historic buildings have been renovated with modern elevators, but some boutique hotels still have steps at the entrance or narrow doorways. If you have mobility concerns or heavy luggage, verify that the property has a fully accessible entrance and elevator access to all floors, not just the lobby.
Consider the Walking Distance to Sol
Staying right next to the cathedral puts you slightly west of the main shopping artery, Gran Vía, and the Puerta del Sol. While the walk is scenic and usually takes about 10 to 15 minutes, it can feel long after a full day of sightseeing. If you plan to use the metro frequently, check the distance to the Ópera station rather than assuming Sol is "close."
Look for Rooftop Access
One of the most underrated benefits of hotels in this district is the view. The skyline of the Royal Palace and the Almudena is spectacular, especially at sunset. Many mid-range and luxury hotels offer rooftop terraces or bars. Booking a property with a view can save you the cost of a separate observation deck ticket and provides a stunning backdrop for evening drinks.
Book Parking in Advance
If you are driving to Madrid, parking in the historic center is extremely restricted and expensive. Most streets are designated for residents only, and traffic cameras strictly enforce this. Only a few hotels near the Almudena have their own garages, and spaces are limited. You must reserve a parking spot directly with the hotel before your arrival to avoid circling the narrow streets looking for a public lot.
Embrace the "Menu del Día"
While hotel restaurants near major tourist sites can be overpriced, the surrounding streets hide excellent local taverns. Rather than booking a hotel with an expensive all-inclusive meal plan, opt for a room-only rate. Venture a few blocks away from the cathedral toward Calle Mayor or La Latina to find authentic Spanish lunch menus at a fraction of the price.
Choosing to stay near the Catedral de la Almudena places you in the most historically rich and visually stunning part of Madrid. It is a decision that prioritizes atmosphere and convenience over the modern bustle of the financial district. By selecting a hotel that fits your specific style and preparing for the logistics of an old city center, you ensure your trip is as comfortable as it is memorable.
As you walk back to your hotel after a late dinner, the illuminated façade of the cathedral provides a quiet, majestic end to your day. This is not just a place to sleep; it is a continuation of the cultural journey that Madrid offers. Take the time to choose wisely, and the neighborhood will reward you with an authentic Spanish experience that lingers long after you return home.
