12 Best Theaters in Oviedo

Oviedo’s cultural identity is inseparable from its stages. While the city is celebrated for its pre-Romanesque architecture and cider houses, its theaters represent the living heartbeat of Asturian expression. From gilded opera houses to intimate black-box venues, the performing arts scene here is remarkably diverse for a city of its size.

Choosing where to spend an evening can be overwhelming for visitors and locals alike. The right venue depends on your mood, whether you crave a world-class opera, a contemporary dance piece, or a children’s puppet show. Understanding the distinct personality of each space is the first step to planning a memorable night out.

The local calendar is heavily influenced by the prestigious Princess of Asturias Awards and the annual opera season. Consequently, many venues maintain exceptionally high technical and acoustic standards. This commitment to quality means that even smaller productions often enjoy a level of polish found only in major European capitals.

Accessibility is a defining feature of Oviedo’s cultural landscape. Most major venues are clustered within the compact city center, making it easy to enjoy a pre-theater dinner and walk to your seat. This pedestrian-friendly layout allows you to transition seamlessly from the bustling Gascona street to the hushed silence of a concert hall.

Beyond the performances, the architecture of these spaces tells its own story. Some venues are housed in historic convents, while others represent bold contemporary design. Visiting them offers a dual experience: you are simultaneously watching a show and sitting inside a piece of the city’s evolving history.

Programming is intentionally varied, catering to families, classical purists, and avant-garde enthusiasts. You will find traditional Asturian tonada singing alongside cutting-edge independent film screenings. This eclectic mix ensures that the city’s stages remain relevant to all generations.

To help you navigate this rich scene, we have curated a list of the most distinguished venues currently operating in the capital of Asturias.

The biggest popcorn bucket I have ever seen! Fantastic sound, great screen, great seats. What more can I ask?
ROBIN★★★★☆
Good cinema place with 14 screens inside a shopping mall.
Olga S★★★★★
You can buy tickets online or in the vending machines near the entrance. There is an option to watch movies in the original language with Spanish subtitles
Duke (Duke)★★★★★
The ticket kiosks are easy to use; it's right across from McDonald's so you can get some coffee before you watch a movie. I like the multiple theater screens near the ticket taker --- you can see what is playing and whether it has started. El bañu... el bañu necesita limpiase un poco, y ta asitiáu de manera rara. En xeneral ye un cine perguapu, bien asitiáu dientro de la Plaza col supermercáu Carrerfour.

Comfy seats plenty of room and having just seen Dune Two I can say a good sound system and top notch picture quality.

The place is clean and adorable. They now have popcorn all day in case you had come when they first opened and wasn’t available late in the evening. The price is reasonable for everyone and it has discounts for seniors and students. I love watching the VOSE films so far I’ve seen films in English and French
Rosa Espindola★★★★★
Love this place and love the moviegoers of this city; they love the art.
Fish★★★☆☆
It's a cozy little cinema within easy walking distance of the downtown part of Oviedo. They have a good selection of movies and I greatly appreciate that they are VOSE (original language with Spanish subtitles). I thought everything was comfortable and the staff was very nice. Also, they don't show previews so the movie actually starts at the time it says unlike other cinemas. My only complaint is that they don't have a popcorn machine and only give pre-made (cold) popcorn to children for the children's movies. It would be a lot better if they invested in a popcorn machine.... for now, you are allowed to bring your own snacks at least. They do have soda, water, coffee, chocolate and haribo gummies. I am really disappointed in the lack of popcorn - it takes away from the experience of going to the movies for me. I will improve my review if this is changed.
Dimitris Theodossopoulos★★★★★
A smart series of small cinemas easy to teach in the city centre. Good collection of films and convenient times. Good price, 7-8€
Dima White★★★★★
This is the best cinema in Oviedo, showing films that you can’t see anywhere else in Asturias. Thank you for being here!

Beautiful building. But there's no place to leave the coats and the space before some seats is very narrow.
B Gilmour★★★★★
Charming theatre with classic old world vibes. We had a box close too the stage. It was a wonderful place from which to watch the performance. We could see into the orchestra pit and had excellent views of the performers.
Kulvinder Singh★★★★★
Lovely theatre, well maintained and staffed by people who show care for the place. The seats can be a little small for modern body sizes (length wise, anyway) but there is pretty good visibility all around, the boxes are worth the extra depending on the show. Surprisingly, the tickets are very reasonable (for the shows I've attended anyway).
Hester Lott★★★★★
Wonderful ballet and a beautiful old traditional theatre. The sightlines we're pretty poor from the cheapest seats, but we had a wonderful evening anyway

Just visited from outside. The building is gorgeous. Recommendable in any case

It was great to get away a little bit and unlike most movie theaters that I've been to, the prices are not completely outrageous to get some popcorn and a drink. The theaters are pretty big and have a large maximum occupancy. The seats are fairly comfortable with large cup holders.
Gustavo Paz★★★☆☆
Temperature insight was not comfortable and the air was heavy. Something wrong with the HVAC system
Lisa Dold★☆☆☆☆
We wanted to see the Programm of the cinema. The website is not working. When calling it says to look on their website they don’t answer calls.
Lilli Reilly (Llillibug)★★★★★
Very nice theater and they are taking every precaution to ensure guests' safety during the pandemic.

Darren Wyles★★★★★
A decent place in a good location. This place is a popular place for all ages. There is a very good cinema showing the latest releases. There is a very good sized gym for those who want to lose a couple of pounds, that they gained after visiting McDonald's, which is also here. There is an hairdressing salon, also another play area for kids. There are restaurants, fashion outlets, including opticians, sports shops and phone shops. Everything is spread over three floors, all are easily accessible for everyone, wheelchairs are not a problem here as the escalators are like the ones in airport, without steps. Carrefour is also here and it's massive, everything to fit your needs. This place doesn't have everything, but it is still more than worth a visit.
ROBIN★★★★☆
Good shopping mall with food places to eat in Macdonalds/ KFC / and food supermarket Carrefours plus 14 screen cinema and many others.
Samuel M★★★★★
Super clean and not too busy. Just like the whole of Oviedo. Best to research the shops before going as it's not too big. There is a bigger shopping center on the outside of Oviedo. But I can't say anything bad because Oviedo is the best City in Spain. Thank you Mr Alcalde
Alland Parman★★★★★

It's small and comfortable. Sadly not so well projected, but it's a wonderful place to be! It's lovely and cozy.

Pedro de Mendoza★★★★☆
A good experience, highly recommended for its welcoming atmosphere and staging, although some parts are a bit dated. Theater in the center of Oviedo with two levels for the audience. The best: - A place with a historic feel and aesthetically pleasing. - A good incline on the lower level that allows for a perfect view of the performance. - Excellent lighting and sound. - Good programming. - Clean facilities. - Conveniently located for grabbing a drink in the city center afterward. - Good seating capacity. - Accessible for people with disabilities. The worst: - Old wooden floors that are very noisy when someone gets up during the performance. - Difficult parking: it's best to go directly to the nearest public parking garage if you're driving.

This is undoubtedly a wonderful space, well worth a visit for its unique facilities. It's ideal for hosting artistic events and cultural activities, such as those held during Princess of Asturias Awards week. It's definitely worth a visit.
Ana Diaz★★★★★
The FPA knows how to make the most of the wonderful facilities at the arms factory and gives it the exposure it deserves. The 2022 exhibition is incredible.
Marisa Donat★☆☆☆☆
There's nothing there. It's closed and looks abandoned.
Hector Fernandez★★★★★
How incredible! I'd never been to the events at the factory before, but I loved it. Some buildings have been restored, while others are falling apart. I just hope they restore all the spaces and use them for more events like this—cultural events that help us reclaim the industrial spaces of the last century and allow us to continue enjoying them.
Nazaret Rivadulla★★★★★
My favorite spot in Oviedo. Magical, decadent, majestic... The FPA events there are a unique experience.

How to Choose the Right Venue in Oviedo

Selecting the perfect theater involves more than just checking what is playing; it requires matching the venue’s atmosphere to your expectations for the evening. Whether you are a first-time visitor or a resident looking to explore beyond your usual spot, a few strategic considerations can significantly enhance your experience. The following tips will help you secure the best seats and enjoy the performance like a local.

Check the language of the performance. While opera and classical music transcend language barriers, many plays and comedy shows are performed in Spanish or Asturian. If you do not speak the language, prioritize venues hosting music, dance, or visual theater to ensure you fully appreciate the artistry.

Book box office seats for acoustic accuracy. In historic venues like the Campoamor, the best sound is often found in the center of the stalls or the front rows of the first balcony. Avoid side boxes if your priority is balanced audio, as these were historically designed for visibility rather than sound quality.

Look for "Día del Espectador" discounts. Many independent theaters in Oviedo offer a specific day of the week where tickets are significantly cheaper. This is an excellent way to experience high-quality productions without stretching your travel budget.

Dress in layers. The climate in Asturias can be humid and cool, but the interiors of older theaters can become quite warm when full. Wearing layers allows you to adapt to the fluctuating temperatures of historic buildings without discomfort.

Explore the alternative circuit. Do not limit yourself to the main stages. Venues that double as cultural centers often host experimental theater, poetry slams, and indie music that provide a raw, authentic glimpse into the city’s contemporary creative pulse.

Arrive early to appreciate the lobby. Many of Oviedo’s theaters feature ornate foyers, historical photographs, or art installations. Arriving 20 minutes early gives you time to admire the architecture and read the production notes without rushing.

The beauty of Oviedo’s theater scene lies in its intimacy and accessibility. You can easily spend an afternoon touring the architectural wonders of the old town and transition into an evening of high culture without ever needing a car. The proximity of these venues to the city’s famous cider bars also makes for a perfect cultural pairing.

Ultimately, the best theater in Oviedo is the one that aligns with your personal taste. By exploring the variety of spaces listed above, you are not just witnessing a performance; you are participating in a civic tradition that has defined this elegant northern city for centuries.
