The province of Cádiz represents the southernmost edge of continental Spain, where the Atlantic Ocean meets the Mediterranean Sea. This unique geographical position creates a diverse coastal landscape that ranges from wild, windswept dunes to sheltered urban bays.
Unlike the overcrowded resort strips of the eastern Costas, the coastline here retains an authentic Andalusian character. Fishing boats still pull up on the sand, and ancient watchtowers stand guard over stretches of coast that remain remarkably unspoiled.
The quality of light in this corner of Europe has drawn artists and travelers for centuries. It is a bright, sharp Atlantic light that makes the whitewashed villages gleam and turns the sea into a brilliant spectrum of blues and greens.
Water temperatures remain pleasant from late spring through early autumn, making the region ideal for swimming, surfing, and paddleboarding. The famous Levante and Poniente winds also create a dynamic environment where the ocean is always moving and alive.
Many of these beaches sit within the boundaries of protected natural parks, which means you will not find high-rise hotels or noisy promenades. Instead, you discover wooden walkways, native vegetation, and the sound of waves rather than traffic.
Accessibility varies significantly from beach to beach. Some are right in the heart of historic towns, while others require a short walk through pine forests or along cliff paths, rewarding those who make the effort with solitude.
Whether you are looking for a family-friendly day out, a world-class surf break, or a quiet cove to watch the sunset, the coastline of Cádiz delivers. Below is a curated list of the twelve best beaches this remarkable province has to offer.
La Caleta

Judith Ka★★★★★
La Caleta is a truly special beach and one of the most charming places in Cádiz. Surrounded by historic fortresses and the old town, it has a unique atmosphere that is hard to find elsewhere. The views are beautiful, especially at sunset, when the sky and sea create unforgettable colors. It may not be the largest beach, but its character, history, and location make it absolutely magical. 😍😍😍

It seems to be a nice beach. The sand is soft. Few people were in the water.
Edwin Mendez★★★★★
Located in beautiful Cádiz, it is an idyllic spot. The beaches, good food and rich history. Definitely plan on returning!

A nice place to hang out at during a day trip to Cádiz even in late December! Kids run around with gusto, collecting seashells and pebbles

This beach is very wide quiet and not crowded, water is peaceful, had a great afternoon with my wife here. I liked it very much and for me is one of the best beaches I’ve ever been to.
Ovidiu Popescu★★★★★
Playa de la Cortadura, with its golden sands and refreshing Atlantic waters near Cádiz, is not just a tranquil escape but also a hub for surf enthusiasts. The beach, known for its serenity, offers a mesmerizing backdrop for both sunbathers and surfers alike. With waves that beckon the adventurous, it's a perfect blend of relaxation and excitement, making it a must-visit for those seeking the coastal charm and a vibrant surf scene in Cádiz.
Valeria A. Escobar Ortíz★★★★★
Nice and calm beach. We were looking for a place that wasn’t too crowded and since today it is a holiday, we thought it was going to be full. To our surprise, there were just the right amount of people. Also, we had the opportunity to rent umbrellas and a place to sit down. Overall, it was an amazing experience and it’ll be likely that we will come back.
Daniel Wu★★★★★
Might be a bit further away from Cadiz but worth the journey.
We got the number 1 bus from the town and 6 stops later, you arrive at the beach via a 5 minute walk. It’s better than the other parts as it’s not full of people and the buildings behind.
There is more space and sun beds for hire too. €15 for two beds between 10:00/11:00 till 19:00.

Remember the sunscreen and to hydrate, we tried the Sangria & LimonFanta, both delicious. The view is worth every minute to get here, the water was crispy cool to balance the heat. Mid to late May visit with grandkids.

Small Beach, location is very close to the Cadiz old town. Nice sunset view. There also long promenade for walking and just chilling.

Cosy, small and beautiful beach, with old town vibe. But the bottom in the ocean is not perfect for swimming, sometimes there are small rocks.
Playa de Santa María del Mar (Cádiz)

Paweł★★★★★
A beautiful urban beach in Cádiz with a relaxed and authentic atmosphere. The sand is clean, the water is clear, and the views of the city coastline make it a perfect place to unwind.
It’s not as large as some other beaches, but that actually adds to its charm. Great for a walk, watching the sunset, or simply enjoying some peaceful time by the ocean. Definitely one of the nicest spots to relax in Cádiz.
Marina Lussich★★★★★
Wonderful beach with waves and family atmosphere. Lifeguard available. Chiringuito Tirabuzón was deceptively poor customer service.

Playa de Santa María del Mar is one of the best urban beaches in Cádiz and a perfect place to enjoy the Atlantic coast. The beach features soft golden sand, clean water, and plenty of space to relax, whether you're looking to swim, sunbathe, or simply enjoy the sea breeze.
The waterfront promenade is ideal for a scenic walk, with beautiful views and several cafés and restaurants nearby. It's also conveniently located within walking distance of the historic center and cruise port.
Whether you're visiting for an hour or spending the afternoon, Playa de Santa María del Mar offers a relaxing escape and is a must-visit while exploring Cádiz. Highly recommended! 🌊☀️🏖️🇪🇸

Beautiful Beach very accessible from Cadiz Centre
This is a beautiful gold sand beach very close to Cadiz hpercentre. I am only getting it a four because it is too crowded. Other than that we thought it was great!
Playa de Santa María del Mar is perfectly orientated to see the sunset. It is an Atlantic beach and stretches for a few miles.
I would say it is more or less ten Km from town centre.
Highly recommended!

Very beautiful and peaceful. However, the dog beach area is not respected, and dogs roam freely along the entire beach.
Valentina Arduini★★★☆☆
I'm giving it two stars because it doesn't deserve zero stars at all. It's a quiet and very clean beach. What I don't like is that it's not comfortable for naturism; families with children pass by, and that's not convenient for me. Otherwise, it's very nice.
Carmelo★★★★★
A quiet beach, especially from Monday to Friday in summer; the rest of the year it's a perfect place for a stroll along the parallel path. Clean water, undeveloped beach. There are several designated areas where dogs are allowed and naturism is permitted.
Antonio ST★★★★☆
A nearly untouched beach, best enjoyed when the Levante wind is blowing. Accessible on foot from Cádiz or by car (access is somewhat dangerous). You can go without a swimsuit if you walk a little to the right.

This is such a nice place. The beach -which is usually very busy by the end of the day-was totally empty early in the morning. The low tides allowed me to take these pictures.

Golden sand. Golden sunsets. Golden showers. This beach has it all. The dizzy highs. The creamy middle. The terryfying lows.
Hugo Watters★★★★☆
Nice sand beach, very popular with locals at weekends, gets a bit congested at high tide. Reasonably clean, decent water quality but no shower that I could see.
Nathan Meme★★★★★
Beautiful setting of the sun over the horizon and a small look out point for standing or in your vehicle and beach gazing It also has some nice discreet coves if you want to lay out on the beach possibly Without clothes or nude but There aren't any signs of any sort saying if there are any nude beaches here in el puerto Santa Maria either Supposedly there is a nude beach out at Valdegrana but from my experience, it is mysterious and no one seems to know where it is or It is not easily accessible. You have to walk very far to get there.
John Barry★★★★★
A wonderful place for a stroll. It is dotted with great restaurants which have ample terraces to serve great food and tapas even during Covid restrictions.

Cádiz, Playa de Santa Maria del Mar, a great and beautiful 850-meter long city beach. The beach with it's golden sand and tranquil waters. In it is located the great semicircular panoramic point from which you can enjoy a spectacular view of the city center. The beach has obtained the Blue Flag.

Beautiful large beach in Cádiz. In June warm enough to go swimming and not crowded at all. Necessary infrastructure is there (showers, toilets, bins, someplace to eat) and there are also multiple supermarkets 5-10 minutes by foot away
Playa de la Victoria

It is a really good beach in Cadiz. It is clean, wide, and looks nice. The water is also perfect, and the boardwalk is great to walk on at night to head to the old town or to just walk around, because why not? The restaurants near are also great, with many options and a variety of different restaurants.

I am making this comment on August 2024 to help you with fees and facilities.
It is really an incredibly pleasant beach. you can bring your own sunbeds, chairs, umbrellas and tents etc. or if you come unprepared, there is a sunbed and umbrella service that you can use for 9.5 euros for two people. you can pay in cash or by credit card. there is also a very clean shower and cabin service in the red gated sections between the beach and the road for 1 euro. If you want to take advantage of this service, make sure you have coins with you. you buy tickets with 1 euro from the vending machines and they do not accept paper money. there are taps where you can clean your feet-slippers from the beach sand for free. apart from that, the ocean water is quite clean, there is no algae etc. there are areas where you can enjoy the beach with sports such as padel, volleyball and free of charge.
Finally, there is a parking lot very close to the beach. again, as in the shower system, you need to buy a ticket from the parking lot vending machine and you print a ticket for 3 hours for 3 euros. this vending machine only accepts coins. you can park your car in the white striped parking sections around the beach.

Nature-wise is a nice beach. But unfortunately doesn’t have any beach shower, beach changing room, safety signs and reminders, thrash bins and toilet considering the number of people visiting here and its location.
Thomas Hvid★★★★★
Very nice and sandy beach with a view towards Cadiz and Rota. Mild waves which made me go crazy and there are small 'chiringuitos' on the beach where you can buy drinks and food.

Chato Beach

Eva Branišová★★★★☆
Pretty, natural beach with a nudist area spanning 700 meters starting at the Ventorrillo El Chato restaurant. In certain areas it can be hard to swim during low tide because of the rocks, but you can still sit around and enjoy the water. If you don't have a car, prepare for a walk. You can get there from the Coradura bus/train stop walking either on the beach or alongside it using a sidewalk in about 30 minutes (45 if it's too hot to walk at a reasonable pace). Showers, restrooms and bars available every 15 minutes or so.
X King★★★★★
Great large and lonely beach with lots of sand and some small dunes. Great for sunbathing, exercised a dip in cold water, walk and great place for kids to run and play!
Legend Crysty★★★★★
As you see the sign starts the nude friendly area. We as a couple enjoy 3 days here, quiet place, large sandy beach.
You can leave the towels near the dunes, because lot of people cross this beach from both sides running, or just walking. But you can go for a skinny dip and walking on the beach till Playa Santibanez connecting with the nature.
Dani Baal★★★★☆
Playa del Chato is a small, secluded beach located on the island of Lanzarote, part of the Canary Islands, Spain. Situated near the village of El Golfo, Playa del Chato is known for its rugged beauty and peaceful environment, making it a great spot for those seeking a more tranquil and less touristy beach experience.
Key features of Playa del Chato include:
1. Seclusion: Unlike the more popular beaches on Lanzarote, Playa del Chato is less crowded, offering a quiet escape. It’s a great place for visitors who want to enjoy some solitude in a natural setting.
2. Black Volcanic Sand: Like many beaches on Lanzarote, Playa del Chato features dark volcanic sand, which contrasts beautifully with the blue waters of the Atlantic Ocean.
3. Natural Surroundings: The beach is surrounded by volcanic cliffs and rocky landscapes, making it a picturesque destination for those who enjoy nature and photography.
4. Not Ideal for Swimming: Due to strong waves and currents, swimming may not always be safe, so it’s important to be cautious. The beach is better suited for sunbathing, picnicking, or taking in the scenery.
5. Access: Playa del Chato is a bit more challenging to reach compared to other beaches, requiring a walk or drive along a dirt road. This adds to its secluded charm, though it also means fewer visitors.
If you enjoy more off-the-beaten-path beaches with dramatic landscapes and a sense of serenity, Playa del Chato is a great choice on Lanzarote.

La Barrosa is a wide, spacious beach – even in the afternoon when it gets a bit busier, there’s still plenty of room to relax. The water here is noticeably cleaner compared to Cádiz, and unlike in Sancti Petri, you don’t have to deal with as many rocks or uneven ground. Parking is mostly on large paid lots, but if you head left near the lifeguard tower, you can actually park for free on the sand. A great spot for a beach day!
Along the beach, you’ll also find plenty of vendors walking by. Many sell clothes, accessories, or small items, and prices are usually negotiable. There are also food carts offering tasty snacks, which is perfect if you don’t want to leave the beach. One large stand sells simple churro-style tubes and even a Nutella-filled roll (delicious, though a bit pricey at €3). Another vendor walks around shouting “coco!” and offers fresh coconut treats – €1 each. While you can buy larger packs in shops for the same price, it’s still a fun little indulgence right on the beach.
Chris Constantine★★★★★
This beach of fine golden sand goes on for miles. The distance from promenade to sea is large enough that, even on the busiest festival weekends in the height of summer, there’s plenty of room for everyone.
The sea is shallow so this is kid friendly and most people we saw in August were in family groups.
Along the beach are a smattering of restaurants and kiosks. However the location is relaxed and not too commercial, with no hawkers trying to get you into their establishments.
A Spanish gem.
Chiara Venanzetti★★★★★
Beautiful beach - reminds me of New Zealand's ones. Very clean. Avoid August: it's the busiest time! Perfect to watch spectacular sundowns. Lots of good bars and restaurants close by.

Tips for Making the Most of Your Beach Days in Cádiz
A little local knowledge goes a long way when planning a day on the sand here, as conditions can change quickly and each beach has its own personality. These practical tips will help you avoid common pitfalls and enjoy the coast like a seasoned visitor rather than a first-time tourist.
Check the wind direction before you choose a beach. The Levante (east wind) can make west-facing beaches uncomfortable with blowing sand, while the Poniente (west wind) does the opposite. Many locals choose their beach for the day based on the forecast, not just the temperature.
Arrive early or late in high summer. Parking near the most popular beaches, especially those in natural parks like Bolonia or El Palmar, fills up by mid-morning in July and August. Arriving before 10 a.m. or after 5 p.m. also gives you softer light and cooler sand.
Bring cash for beach bars. While most chiringuitos now accept cards, smaller kiosks and parking attendants in more remote areas often operate on cash only. Having a few euros in coins will also help if you need to use public showers or rent a sunbed.
Respect the dune systems. Many beaches in Cádiz are backed by fragile dune ecosystems that are protected by law. Always use the designated wooden walkways and never walk or lay your towel on the dunes, even if it looks like a shortcut.
Pack a windbreak or umbrella with a sand anchor. The Atlantic breeze can be strong, and standard umbrellas often fly away. A windbreak is a common sight on beaches like Zahara de los Atunes and will make your day far more comfortable.
The coastline of Cádiz offers something genuinely different from the typical Spanish beach holiday. It is a place where nature still dictates the rhythm of the day, and where a simple lunch of grilled sardines in a beach bar feels like a small celebration of the sea.
Take your time exploring beyond the first beach you see. Each cove, dune, and stretch of golden sand has its own character, and the real joy of this province is discovering the one that feels like your own private corner of the Atlantic.
