12 Best Hotels in Ciutadella de Menorca

Ciutadella de Menorca carries a different kind of energy than the rest of the Balearic Islands. While it certainly knows how to welcome visitors, it refuses to pander to them. This is a working aristocratic town, a place where medieval stone walls hold the echo of horse hooves during the Fiestas de Sant Joan, and where the harbor is filled with a mix of weathered fishing boats and polished yachts.

Choosing to stay here means choosing atmosphere over anonymity. You are not staying in a generic resort; you are staying inside a living museum of sandstone and history. The streets are narrow, the light is golden, and the connection to the sea is palpable from almost every corner of the old quarter.

The accommodation landscape in Ciutadella is uniquely fragmented. Because the historic center is protected, you will not find massive, sprawling high-rise hotels here. Instead, you are greeted by converted palaces, boutique townhouses, and rural estates that sit just on the fringes of the urban sprawl.

This selection focuses on properties that offer more than just a bed for the night. They offer access—whether that is access to the labyrinthine old town, a secluded cove, or a level of gastronomic excellence that rivals the mainland. These are stays that enhance the specific magic of Menorca’s western capital.

When compiling this list, we looked at the nuances that matter to discerning travelers. We considered the preservation of historic architecture, the quality of the breakfast (a vital component in Spain), the proximity to the port, and the overall sensory experience of the property. Whether you are a couple seeking romance or a family looking for a base to explore the island’s rugged northern coast, there is a specific type of sanctuary here for you.

From the moment you arrive, you will notice that hospitality here is a serious craft. It is less about flashy amenities and more about the texture of the linen, the temperature of the pool, and the silence of the air conditioning. It is about creating an environment where you can decompress from the ferries and flights and slip into the slower rhythm of the island.

Below is our curated guide to the finest places to stay in this corner of the Mediterranean. Each property has been selected for its distinct character, commitment to service, and ability to provide an authentic connection to the landscape of western Menorca.

Far Beyond Our Expectations – We Still Don't Understand the 2-Star Our stay at this hotel exceeded our expectations by a very wide margin. My friend and I were simply looking for a comfortable room and good service, and we found much more than that. The location is outstanding. It's easy to find parking, transportation is convenient, and there is a beautiful stretch of sea right in front of the hotel. There are plenty of parking spaces around the property, so finding a spot was never a problem. Another huge advantage is that the town center is only about a 5-minute walk away. We could simply leave the car at the hotel and enjoy our evenings in the center without worrying about driving, traffic, or finding parking. It made the whole experience much more relaxing and convenient. Every evening after returning from the beaches, we would come back and enjoy a final swim right in front of the hotel. Those moments became some of the highlights of our trip. As for the rooms, one thing that often disappoints us in hotels is the quality of the beds. Many hotels have mattresses that are worn out, sagging, and noisy. Here, however, both the bed and pillows were exceptionally comfortable. The room was clean and well-equipped, with a refrigerator, a safe, and plenty of hangers for our belongings. When it comes to the bathroom, the two things that matter most to us are cleanliness and water pressure. Both were excellent. The bathroom was spotless, and the shower had a strong, satisfying flow of water. The hotel staff deserve special recognition. They were incredibly helpful and always ready to assist with anything we needed. In fact, they often anticipated our needs before we even asked. For example, while planning our beach days, we were wondering where to buy an umbrella. The hotel provided umbrellas and towels free of charge. When we were unsure which beach to visit, the staff checked the wind conditions and recommended the best options for the day. Another thoughtful touch involved our cooler. We were trying to figure out where to get ice, and the hotel informed us that they could provide small ice packs. They also offered frozen 1.5-liter water bottles (for a small fee), which turned out to be the perfect solution because they stayed cold much longer during a full day at the beach. That frozen bottle became our favorite option! The only reason we are not giving a perfect score is the presence of ants in the room. We would recommend being careful not to leave any food visible. Unfortunately, we made that mistake ourselves, which may have contributed to the issue. There is also a supermarket very close to the hotel, making it easy to buy anything you might need. As an added bonus, if you buy a watermelon and want it sliced, the staff are happy to help! Overall, we are leaving today with wonderful memories and a very positive impression of this hotel. We felt genuinely cared for throughout our stay, and the combination of location, comfort, cleanliness, and outstanding service made this a fantastic experience. We would absolutely recommend this hotel and would happily stay here again. 😊

The best hotel I've ever stayed in. Absolutely amazing staff, amazing view from the terrace. They waited for me when I arrived late and on my check out day I could stay and use the common areas and toilets which was a great help! The breakfast was really good as well. I had a fantastic stay, highly recommended!

The hotel is situated in a cove right by the waters edge and is in an ideal location. Upon arrival we received a lovely warm friendly welcome and shown to our room, which was comfortable, clean and overlooking the cove. We loved the location of the hotel and enjoyed the walk into Cuitadella being 15 minutes directly or 25 minutes by the sea which was beautiful. Food at breakfast was typical continental and ample. All the staff are very friendly and helpful and the prices of the drinks at the hotel are cheap.
Nikolai Siegrist★★★★★
Booked one room for one night really spontaneous. The Receptionist was really friendly and showed me everything I need to know. My room was really big, clean and a good working AC. Nothing to declare. Breakfast was completely fine for the price. There is everything you need. Also nothing to complain. I would immediately book another room there, if I go to ciutadella back again. Big thanks.

I had a wonderful one-week stay at this hotel in Menorca. The entire team was incredibly kind, welcoming, and attentive. Although my English and Spanish are both quite limited, everyone was patient, understanding, and made me feel completely at ease. I loved the family atmosphere, the peaceful setting, the private beach access, and the impeccable cleanliness of the hotel. Thank you to the whole team for your warmth and hospitality. I highly recommend this hotel and would happily return! 🌞🏖️✨

Lovely suite with two bedrooms on the top floor! Not suitable for heavy suitcases, but we absolutely loved the place... it's not the 5-star hotel next door and there are no elevators, but the room did the job for one night before catching our ferry to Barcelona.

We were there on a business trip. You can't even call this place a "honeycomb" or an "apartment." Like all the previous reviews, there were cockroaches, and the smell of dampness was unbearable when you walked in. Everything was filthy. In the end, we had to leave and get another hotel. I don't know how the health department doesn't see the reviews and shut it down. I wouldn't go back even if I were dead. The owners are disgraceful for letting the hotel get into such a state.
Queta Pascual★☆☆☆☆
I absolutely do not recommend it. We were in a room with no window, just a door that opened directly onto the street and couldn't be opened. It was dirty, smelled of damp, and the bathroom was awful. It was a very bad experience.
Rosalyn Hills★★★☆☆
I don't know how a hotel can have a permit without an escape route in case of fire. We spent a freezing night because there were no blankets. The bathroom smelled strongly of sewage. In short, a bad experience; I don't recommend it.

Check in machine worked fine for me. The machine works in several languages & took about the same time as a person doing it. (Hardest part is finding your booking reference - just search your emails for this). Price is fair for the room & location so no complaints

When you show me photos of a bright room with a window, then place me in a dark moist cave, and shamelessly call it an upgrade (which I’m not allowed to refuse), sorry, you get 1 star.

Check in is an absolute nightmare. Took us an hour in a humid room trying to check in. Ended up calling the hotel and they did it manually. I paid via the checking counter which resulted in the hotel called me at 1:00 IN THE MORNING telling me that the payment is not showing, I send them a screenshot of the bank statement No hot water, which I’ve never seen No elevator, so I ended up carrying my baby with the trolley because he was sleeping for 2 stories The room was nice though, a bit small Luckily this was our emergency room for 1 night. It would’ve ruined our vacation if I stayed longer

Auto check in is an absolute nightmare! Got to the hotel around 9am thinking I could do work in the lobby or storage my stuff and explore until check in at 2pm. Upon entry there is a room, a door, and the auto check in machine. This is where I learned there is not a single staff member on site, no one to open the door to the “lobby”. I had to sit on the floor until a staff member came. When I asked if I could work in the lobby that is when I find out there is no lobby and everything is programmed through the machine so the staff member couldn’t even assist with an earlier check-in. There are lockers to storage your items if you can get passed the locked door. 2pm comes and I try to check it…the machine requires each person on the reservation to scan their passport/ID. The second person in my party had not arrived and would not until that night. Without the second passport I couldn’t check in on the machine. I had to call the hotel and instead of someone coming to assist me, I was directed to open the door via camera!!! (They use security cameras instead of on site staff). Auto check in was more of a pain than it was worth. Room was small but decent and the location is great. Not a great choice if you don’t plan to have every person on the reservation at the hotel at 2pm.
Eugene Cheng★★★☆☆
Checking in was an issue (and I had read about others having issues too) and had I not had a international phone and a translator I wouldn't know what to do. Location is fantastic. Washroom is an issue if you are not staying alone as the toilet is in the fairly small room with no door. The upstairs patio overlooking the city was amazing to share with a friend with a glass of wine.

A great “petit” hotel in the heart of Ciutadella. Spacious room, comfortable bed, quiet and very clean. The reception is 300m from the hotel which is a bit inconvenient, but not a thing. The receptionist is very friendly and helpful. There is a free parking not far from the hotel.

The room, housekeeping and the location were great. I would like to give my thanks to the receptionist who spoke French with blonde hair (sorry I didn't catch your name). Thank you so much for reserving a taxi for me and my partner. We couldn't have done it without you. Encore une fois, muchas gracias.
Brenda Serenelli★★★☆☆
The rooms are standard, just as they appear in the photos. On the day we arrived, we were informed that we would have to be moved to a different room on the second day because ours was the only accessible room available and they would have to use it. We couldn't fully relax because we had to keep packing and unpacking the entire time. We were compensated with an extra night, but had we known this in advance, we would have preferred to stay elsewhere. For the same price or just a few euros more, there were better options without having to change rooms. The location and the staff were excellent, both the cleaning staff and the receptionists.

One of those reviews you almost don’t want to write because you want to keep the secret for yourself. Absolutely superb boutique hotel, the place oozes attention to detail. Comfy beds, great AC, light and ventilation, perfect location in old town but close to edge for short walk to car parks, modern aesthetics, friendly and very responsive service even when we locked ourselves out. If we come back to Menorca would stay here again

Just had a great 2 week vacation. Hotel Patricia has a very simple feel at first, but when you learn to love the details it's just great. Location = if you like to drive around the island during the day and enjoy the cutest town at night is simply perfect. Parking Space around hotel = easy. Breakfast buffet = awesome. The whole ground, breakfast, pool floor is refurbished and has a great fresh vibe. Sun is shining for an evening glass at the pool until very late. Rooms are simple but were fine for us + large, renovated and clean bathroom. People in the hotel very friendly and nice. Thank's for everything. Already looking forward to coming back! 🙂

Hotel located very close to the port and old town, on the street where you can easily (April) find a free parking spot. Rooms very basic but comfortable. Breakfast ok, good value for money. Staff don't know what we they are doing (reception - one day we had breakfasts included, the other day we had to pay for them, restaurant - go around in circles, but don't clean tables or bring food to the breakfast buffet), but I guess you have to get used to it in Spain, but everybody was very nice. Gives an extra local vibe to your stay 🙂

A beautiful hotel in a beautiful city. Immaculately clean with wonderful staff. Plenty of choice of food for breakfast with plenty of time to eat (7:30 - 11:00). Room was kepted spotlessly clean by Danielly. There's a pool with 10 sunbeds, gym and leisure area too. Definitely recommend this hotel.

My wife and I stayed at Hotel Patricia for three nights recently. We had a great stay. We had one of the 4 suites on the top floor with a patio. Great sunsets! The pool was very nice, clean and never crowded. The front desk staff was very helpful. The breakfast was delicious. The hotel's location was excellent - just a very short walk to the center of town and close to the buses to the local beaches (the buses are excellent, frequent and timely and very reasonably priced). The hotel is also just a short walk (7-8 blocks south) to a local cala where there is great swimming along the rocky shore. My wife and I have stayed at three different beautiful "rural' Menorcan hotels but we also loved our stay at the Patricia in Ciutadella, which is a truly beautiful town with lots to see and do and many great restaurants.

We stayed in two rooms. The first room, room 5 on the ground floor in the backyard, was very dark and humid - there was very little daylight and the smell of humidity was very, very strong. I don't think that room is fit for purpose in it's current condition. We then moved to another room in the main building with windows and no humidity problems. Issue remains that in both rooms the toilet and shower are in the same room as the bed - not ideal... Location is good, kitchen is well equipped and there is a public parking lot around the corner.
Pats Van Dam★☆☆☆☆
My husband and I booked for 2 nights in April. We paid extra for a room with a patio view. The room was absolutely tiny! The toilet had a sliding glass door that couldn't shut, because the sink was in the way. This was about 40 cm from the bed. The shower used the same door, sliding the other way. The window from which to see the garden view was tiny and high. I had to stand on my toes to see the patio. Above us was a communal terrace upon which someone started dragging furniture at 8 am. We had room 6. Don't stay in it. We left after 1 night and didn't get a refund.

Fantastic hotel with extremely friendly and helpful staff. So close to all Cuitadela has to offer. Also we'll placed for bus station to travel locally and to Mahon. I do not recommend staying at The Alfons Hotel Prague. For our 40th anniversary trip, my wife and I booked the Alfons hotel Prague with our travel agent who uses Bedsonline they recommended the Alfons Hotel. We had a terrible experience. The description we received was totally misrepresented. The accommodation was not at all what we were told it would be. The staff were terribly abrupt and rude. The room we were given was tiny and on the top floor with only a small pop up window on the ceiling. In addition, the elevator did not go to the top floor, instead it stopped one floor below our floor and we had to climb 12 steep steps with our luggage to get to the top floor. I asked for assistance as I had recently had a knee operation, however I was told there was no help available. The rude front desk person told us the hotel was totally booked and there wasn't another room available. We called our travel agent and he acknowledged there was a problem when I had him speak to the front desk person. He suggested we book another, more appropriate accommodation which he assisted us in booking, he said he would deal with the problem with the Alfonse Hotel with Bedsonline by filing a report. Our report was very detailed and we provided names, details and photos. The new accommodation took a couple of hours to find, we wasted almost a day dealing with this very unfortunate incident. The hotel we booked was $600 more dollars for 4 nights than what we paid for the Alfons. Over 2 months after the incident our travel agent sent me a string of notes that he sent to Bedsonline who all but didn't respond until the agent had to re-send a number of follow up notes. The latest one indicated that Bedsonline had investigated and closed the report and gave us a 20% refund as a goodwill gesture, without ever contacting us to discuss the details. We did not stay at The Alfons after our terrible experience so they had our room to rent out, they refused to refund us or our agent. I am not asking for anything more than the total full amount we paid for the Alfons refunded back to us. I would not recommend staying at the Alfons and I would never use Bedsonline to book any travel.

Our stay at this hotel was excellent. We especially want to highlight the friendliness and attentiveness of the staff, who were always looking after us and made us feel right at home. Room number 9, early July 2026 Let me tell you about our personal experience: We stayed in this lovely property for 8 nights and had a wonderful stay. It was spotless, smelled wonderful, and the location was ABSOLUTELY perfect. The rooms are small, but you'll be close to a supermarket, pastry shop, bars, and restaurants—practically steps from everything, right in the heart of the historic center. Susana, the property manager, was fantastic, both in giving us recommendations for places to see, eat, and do, and in managing our needs. I should point out that it is EXPRESSLY STATED that linens, towels, and cleaning are NOT changed for the first 3 days, but we had no problems because, even after those three days, we always found the linens clean. If we ever return to Ciutadella, we will definitely consider staying at this property again.

We stayed 13 days at the hostal and everything was great. Pablo welcomed us and was available during the whole stay to give us advice when needed. The location is amazing. If you come by car it's very easy to find a parking spot close by. The city center is basically around the corner, with the Plaça des Pins at 30sec walk (perfect place to have breakfast!). The rooms are cleaned every day (amazing service: the cleaning woman even untangles your charging cables), and new towels provided. The room and bathroom are not super spacious but we had no problem spaces at all. There is a TV (we didnt use), a ceiling ventilator (very useful) and an AC (we didnt use). If you sleep with the AC off and the window open, it could be sometimes a bit loud outside during the night because the rooms are in the first floor and the street is narrow, so you could hear a car or motorcycle passing by. Although, from the 12 nights there it just bothered me twice. There is also a shared fridge and free coffee available. Moreover, we were also very glad to see that there were beach umbrellas we could use! All in all, great hostal, with great location, and service. We'll come back!

We went on vacation from August 3rd to 7th. The location is very central with lots of things to see and do nearby. There's also a motorbike rental company close by, which is a real plus on the island. The rooms were very clean and had air conditioning (you really need it), although the bathroom is quite small, as many people mention in the reviews. We also want to highlight the owner's friendliness. Highly recommended! Thanks!

A TREASURE DISCOVERED IN CIUDADELLA!! I spent a few days with a friend at this hostel and we couldn't have had a better time. Excellent location, tasteful decor, comfortable beds, very clean and welcoming. The weather wasn't great during our stay, but the warm water in the shower and the perfectly functioning heating system made our stay very comfortable. If all that was good, Pablo was even better: a charming owner and perfect host, always available, with a very friendly approach, and who provided us with a lot of useful information. In short, 100% recommended accommodation!! THANK YOU for everything, Pablo. It's a pleasure to find people like you!!

This hotel was in a perfect location. It’s walking distance to Moulin Rouge and to the subway. It is NOT handicapped accessible. Yes there is one tiny elevator but you still have to walk up about 5 steps from the lobby to get to it. The dining area/bar is down 3 steps from the lobby. It is Air Conditioned! The room was beautiful and spacious enough. But the restroom was very tiny and did not have a vent. Other than that if those things do not matter to you, it was a great hotel and the staff was very helpful and accommodating. There is free coffee by the elevator and tiny cookies as well as a variety of tea bags for free. FYI there are a lot of adult sex toy shops along the main road but everything was very clean, there were no problems or bad people that I saw. A huge plus was the Post office, western union and a big Monoprix store that is equivalent to a wal-mart plus (but better!) with groceries, clothes, and other necessities.

Host is ridiculously friendly, repeatedly went out of her way to solve problems that were 100% my fault (for example GAVE us aftersun when she saw me and my girlfriend burnt in the sun). My favorite place in Ciutadella. You'll love it for the decor, the boutique chicness, the delicious breakfast, the central location but most importantly you'll love it even more b/c of the staff. They make me feel at home, so nice, great recommendations, always available for anything and really just great and good energy people all around. My home away from home in Ciutadella. Selecting the right base is crucial for your experience, as the geography of Ciutadella offers two distinct types of holidays. You must decide whether you want to be in the thick of the historic action or removed from it, and this decision will shape your daily logistics, dining habits, and overall level of relaxation. Here is what you need to know before you book.

1. Decide Between the Old Town and the Coastline.
Ciutadella’s historic center is pedestrianized, atmospheric, and loud during festivals. If you stay inside the walls, you sacrifice a large pool and parking for the ability to walk to tapas bars at midnight. If you stay on the outskirts or along the coast, you gain tranquility and sea views but will need a rental car to get into town for dinner.

2. Do Not Underestimate the Summer Heat.
The stone walls of the old city retain heat like an oven. If you are visiting in July or August, a property with a pool or modern air conditioning is not a luxury; it is a necessity. Many boutique hotels in converted palaces have limited outdoor space, so verify the cooling systems before booking if you are sensitive to heat.

3. Parking is a Precious Commodity.
If you plan to rent a car to explore the beaches of the north, such as Cala Macarella or Cala Turqueta, you must confirm the parking situation at your hotel. Parking inside the old town is virtually impossible for non-residents. A hotel with private, secure parking will save you hours of frustration circling the one-way streets.

4. Book the Breakfast.
Unlike major cities where you might skip the hotel breakfast in favor of a local cafe, the breakfast culture in Ciutadella’s hotels is exceptional. Many properties feature local Mahón cheese, sobrassada sausage, and fresh ensaimadas. It is often the best meal of the day and provides the energy needed for exploring the cobbled streets.

5. Consider the Timing of the Fiestas.
The Fiestas de Sant Joan (June 23-24) is a spectacular cultural event involving horses and massive crowds. If you want to experience it, book your hotel nearly a year in advance. However, if you are seeking a quiet retreat, avoid these dates entirely, as the streets become impassable and the noise continues until dawn.

6. Look for "Rural" Options for Space.
Properties classified as "agroturismos" or rural hotels often sit just five to ten minutes outside the center. They offer a completely different experience—think olive groves, infinity pools, and converted barns. If you are traveling with children or value silence over convenience, these are often a better value than the cramped (though beautiful) city center hotels.

7. Check for Accessibility Constraints.
The charm of Ciutadella comes from its medieval architecture, which means steep staircases, uneven floors, and a lack of elevators are common. If you have mobility issues or are traveling with a stroller, ensure you book a modern property or a ground-floor suite, as many historic buildings cannot be retrofitted for full accessibility.

The beauty of Ciutadella is that it serves as a perfect microcosm of Menorca itself. It balances the sophistication of a capital city with the raw, natural beauty of the Balearic coast. Where you choose to sleep will dictate how you interact with this environment, whether you wake up to the sound of church bells or the gentle lapping of waves against the rocks.

Ultimately, the best hotel is the one that aligns with your personal travel philosophy. If you are here to soak in history and gastronomy, stay in the heart of the stone labyrinth. If you are here to disconnect and swim in turquoise waters, head for the coast. Whichever you choose, you are guaranteed a stay defined by authenticity, warmth, and the undeniable allure of Menorca.
