12 Pharmacies in Vigo City Centre

Finding a reliable pharmacy is about more than convenience; it is about accessing trusted healthcare advice, essential medications, and peace of mind. Whether you are a local resident or a visitor exploring the historic streets of Vigo, knowing where to turn for medical necessities is crucial for a stress-free experience.

The city centre, known locally as Casco Vello and the surrounding commercial districts, is well-equipped with modern farmacias that offer high standards of care. Spanish pharmacies are highly regulated and staffed by trained professionals who can diagnose minor ailments and dispense both over-the-counter and prescription medication.

Navigating a foreign healthcare system, even for simple items like painkillers or plasters, can sometimes feel daunting. However, understanding the local pharmacy culture—including opening hours, the green cross signage, and the availability of English-speaking staff—can make your search significantly easier.

Unlike in some countries where pharmacies are located inside supermarkets, Spanish farmacias are distinct storefronts. They are often marked by a prominent green cross, which may be illuminated or animated, making them easy to spot even from a distance on a busy street.

While most pharmacies operate during standard business hours, the city maintains a system of farmacias de guardia (duty pharmacies). These designated locations remain open overnight, on weekends, and during public holidays to ensure that urgent medical needs are always covered.

This guide provides a curated overview of accessible pharmacies located in the heart of Vigo. Whether you need a specific brand of sunscreen, pediatric medicine, or simply a bottle of water to take with your prescription, these locations offer professional service and convenience.

Below is a practical list of pharmacies situated in Vigo’s central area, designed to help you locate professional care quickly.

Excellent professionals. Thx. for your advice.

I've shopped with them several times without any problems. Good service and fast delivery. The reason for this low rating is a problem with their 3-for-2 sunscreen offer. I contacted them because it wasn't being applied at checkout, even though the website said "3-for-2 offer on all sunscreens." They replied that it applied to all products in the promotion, which isn't stated anywhere on the website. It simply says "all sunscreens," without any asterisks indicating any limitations. They've just changed the offer's advertising, and it no longer says "all." This is unacceptable. They should admit their mistake, period. They didn't offer an explanation without admitting their mistake and then changed the offer. What a shame. This was a pharmacy I trusted; I used to shop there and had recommended them. I've attached a photo of the products they were offering.

Thank you so much for the shipment, everything was perfect!!! My two boxes of supplements, which I desperately need and found here at a reasonable price, arrived despite the holidays, quickly and very well packaged. Thank you. Highly recommended!!!

Months ago I ordered a product online and it never arrived. They claim it was delivered to someone at a collection point I was never aware of. Who did they deliver it to? I don't know. All I know is that I have neither my money nor the product.

I highly recommend this pharmacy! I placed an order yesterday and it arrived this morning—in less than 24 hours! And the prices are fantastic. They respond immediately to inquiries, both online and via WhatsApp. Thank you so much for the prices, the shipping, and the excellent service. Best regards.

I went because I thought it would be cheaper, but it turns out I ended up paying more for the medication, which isn't covered by social security. Then I asked for a recommendation, and according to them, because they'd already made me doubt myself, I told them it was for something else, but I also told them what I usually used for that. Of course, they didn't ask me anything else; they just gave it to me automatically, without asking any further questions. I called them to talk to them, and the service was awful because they could have found other solutions. I'm left without what I really needed and without the money I spent on something I'm not going to use. I've been reading comments, and it seems this happens more often than usual. They recommend things that aren't what the customer is really looking for. The customer might confuse terms or something, but they've studied to know that if I use something else for what I want it for, they should ask me or say, "Hey, could it be that you're confusing things, and since you use this other thing, this might be what it has?" Otherwise, what's the point of taking a patient's medical history? That's what it's for. I'm really disappointed because I thought it was a great pharmacy.
Mireya García★☆☆☆☆
I called this morning to ask a question, and the woman who answered the phone was quite unpleasant. I understand that things can get stressful at times, but her manner was very rude and unprofessional. It's a shame, because customer service is also important in a pharmacy.
nelly sampedro★☆☆☆☆
I'd give it zero stars if I could. I went today at midday and was helped by a technician whose nameplate says Belén... he couldn't have treated me worse. Rude, curt, he sounds like a robot. I took the products because I needed them, but he could learn a thing or two from his colleagues!
María Belén Gonzalez★☆☆☆☆
Don't buy from their website; you order and pay for one thing, and they send you something else. I had to write several emails and send a photo of the order to get them to acknowledge their mistake. After several days of back-and-forth emails (in which I included my phone number in case they wanted to talk to me—they didn't call, of course), they admitted that the shipment was incorrect and that they could arrange for the product to be picked up and returned. They haven't said anything about the money I paid; I hope they'll refund it. It was quite a disaster, really, a shame.

This afternoon I went with a friend to buy some creams. The service was outstanding. The expert advice and extensive information on each product were unprecedented. I think it was Miriam; she gave us a masterclass in dermocosmetics. Hats off!
Marta Fernández Castro★☆☆☆☆
I went with my daughter to get her ears pierced. A woman with black hair in a slightly dry ponytail attended to us, but that was all. Right after piercing it, she told me it looked too low because the earring she already had was very large. I wasn't reassured because it didn't make sense, since the center of the earring should be in the middle, whether it's big or small. I stopped at several pharmacies, and they all confirmed my suspicions: too low, and the back too high and too close to the cartilage. We took her back, and she insisted it was fine. Finally, she took it out and gave us our money back, still adamant that it was fine. I've attached a photo without the earring; from the front, it's too low and not aligned with the one she already had, and from the back, it's too high and too close to the cartilage—completely diagonal. The review won't let me attach a photo, which is a shame because it's quite clear.

I love this pharmacy! I've bought so many products, and I even got four or five earrings. The brunette who helped me was incredibly attentive, making sure everything was to my liking. Little to no professional ethics. Under no circumstances should you take advice from their staff. It's more of a sock shop than a pharmacy. Note: I suspect their good reviews are bought, because otherwise, people wouldn't know what they're getting.

I want to highlight the excellent service and expertise of this pharmacy, especially in the areas of supplements, women's health, and menopause support. As an athlete, I also greatly appreciate their knowledge of supplements focused on performance and recovery. I especially value the pharmacist who conveys a sense of warmth and professionalism, always offering personalized advice tailored to my needs. I'm 46 years old and starting to experience physical changes (skin and body) as well as hormonal ones. He helped me better understand the changes typical of this stage of life (especially the physical ones) and choose appropriate products for my skin, hormones, and physical activity. It's wonderful to find a place where they truly listen, explain clearly, and offer well-informed recommendations, without rushing or pressure. Without a doubt, this is a go-to pharmacy for women (especially athletes) seeking support, confidence, and guidance regarding menopause and supplements. Highly recommended.

This essential pharmacy for the neighborhood is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, making it a vital resource for any nighttime or holiday emergency. They have a wide selection of products, practically everything you could need: medications, dermocosmetics, cosmetics, over-the-counter medications, pregnancy tests, orthopedic supplies, and much more. The staff is highly trained and always ready to assist you. It's a business highly valued by all the residents of the area.

Since when can you pay by card if you're missing a part of your prescription? The pharmacist is a bit rude, but the pharmacy technician is lovely, a real delight; it's a pleasure to be served by her. The pharmacist should know that all payment methods are accepted. Again, the technician really knows how to serve customers; he should learn.

A modern and well-equipped pharmacy on Avenida del Alcalde Gregorio Espino, right in the heart of Lavadores. It belongs to the Farma8 network, which is evident in the organization and the variety of products available. The pharmacy staff is very professional and friendly, providing detailed advice on any treatment or health product. They have a good selection of dermocosmetics and natural products. The premises are spacious and bright, making it easy to find what you're looking for. The only improvement would be extending their opening hours on Saturdays. Overall, a quality pharmacy in the neighborhood.

Only 24-hour pharmacy in the area, half-hour wait. I asked for a generic similar to Frenadol, and when I got home I saw they gave me one for a child. Thanks for nothing, I hope I don't have to go back.

Dr. Fleming (the one with glasses) works here. He's incredibly arrogant, cocky, and downright unfriendly. Plus, his prices are outrageous, so it's a disaster in both service and products. It's great that there are so many pharmacies to choose from! 😀😃

I've been coming to this pharmacy for years and I always leave satisfied. The staff is very friendly and professional, serving you patiently and without rushing, explaining everything about the medications or products you need. On several occasions, they've ordered items they didn't have in stock and managed to get them for me very quickly. The prices are reasonable, and the personalized service makes all the difference compared to other pharmacies. Highly recommended for the whole family.
Silvia Vidal Malleiro★☆☆☆☆
The worst experience I've ever had, and I still can't believe what happened. I brought them the prescription for an ointment for my son, stamped by the Galician Health Service (SERGAS), issued and signed by an ENT specialist, and with the doctor's code, prescribing an ointment for a child who had just had a vein cauterized. And the "boss's wife," as she calls herself, told me to go all the way to the Cunqueiro Hospital to get the prescription because she couldn't sell me the ointment with what I had. They had me running around for two hours, calling the Cunqueiro Hospital at all hours begging the on-call ENT specialist to write me a prescription, going back to the same pharmacy in despair... when I finally discovered it's a medication sold without a prescription everywhere (at least 20 online pharmacies sell the same medication without even asking for the prescription I had). And what's more, the Galician Health Service (SERGAS) can't charge my health card for it because it was non-prescription from the start and not covered by social security! It's absurd, and I understand they only did it either to mess with me (in this case, a child who needed it) or because they have too many customers. I went to another pharmacy where they didn't know me at all, and they gave me the medication right away without any problem, just with the doctor's note I had, which was the only document needed to get that ointment! They've certainly lost me as a customer, but the ordeal they put me through... That's just wrong. The name of the medication is Rinobanedif ointment, so that any user can verify the truth of what is stated here and think very carefully before going to this pharmacy. I want to believe they don't know the difference between a prescription and a medical prescription because if I think they're doing this on purpose to cause trouble, I don't know what's worse... RESPONSE TO THE PHARMACY'S RESPONSE: 1) Nobody offered me any solution. The employee's solution was simply to tell me to go back to the center. I asked her to call them, which she reluctantly agreed to. 2) I brought a medical prescription which, as the on-call ENT specialist at the Alvaro Cunqueiro Hospital later confirmed, was valid in all respects, and this was demonstrated when another pharmacy dispensed the medication to me without any problems. As I mentioned in the initial review, the document was issued and signed by a doctor, even including their registration number, and outlined the dosage instructions. I assume you're not implying that only you comply with current regulations in this country, because otherwise, the more than 20 pharmacies selling this medication online without requesting any documentation wouldn't be doing so so openly. I invite you and everyone who reads this review to verify this for yourselves. 3) The attitude of the employee, who in this case referred to herself as "the boss's wife" (information no one asked for), left much to be desired in terms of service and offering no solutions (she didn't offer any). She showed absolutely no empathy and barely bothered to look at the official and valid document issued by the doctor, simply telling me very reluctantly that "it wasn't good enough" while I explained that the child was very ill and that it seemed strange to me that for a medication not covered by social security, they had to put the prescription on my health insurance card (everyone knows that), and that the doctor's prescription wasn't sufficient. 4) I think it's great that they're trying to split hairs, but the reality is that I was finally given the medication at another pharmacy without having to do anything other than show the doctor's note, since the prescription I had was valid for it. And I reiterate, it's an ointment that pharmacies are selling online without asking for anything. 6) For having made such a glaring mistake, they should be more humble and apologize for the treatment they received, the inconvenience and the harm caused, especially considering I've been a customer for over 17 years with three children. Thank you very much.

—> Review updated November 2023. I placed the same order as before, 4 cans of baby formula, and 3 of them arrived crushed and badly damaged. I complained to the pharmacy, and the only response I received was a refund of the shipping costs (€4); shipping was free because it was a high-value order. I find the minimal compensation for poor handling and/or inadequate packaging appalling, especially considering it's baby food and can be exposed to contamination from external agents if the can is damaged (potentially causing serious illnesses). A very bad experience. ——— First experience with this online pharmacy, and everything went perfectly. Very fast shipping, arrived in 24 hours. The package was perfectly wrapped, with the contents very well protected. 100% Recommended (After checking the cans in my first order, I found two were damaged. Once I wrote the review, I didn't think it was necessary to change it, since it was my first time ordering and I wanted to support local businesses.)

This pharmacy is very well-stocked, offering everything from pharmaceuticals to cosmetics and excellent over-the-counter products. I'd like to highlight the excellent service from the staff, who are more than professional. In this pharmacy, I witnessed a beautiful story. They were taking an elderly woman's blood pressure. It was very high, and she also had a hemorrhage in one eye. The pharmacist knew she was taking medication to lower it (she dispensed it herself): even more worrying. She asked which of her family members they could contact to tell her they needed to take her to a health center, and preferably today, since tomorrow was Christmas Eve and there would be hardly any staff to attend to her. Her grandson, she said. But she didn't know his mobile number, only the landline, which they weren't going to answer right now. The pharmacist then told her employee to take an umbrella and her phone and accompany the elderly woman to her house to find her grandson's number there and call him to explain that it was urgent for her to receive medical attention. The elderly woman then mentioned that she had already suspected something was wrong, because she had felt a little dizzy that morning at home, and that's why she had come to the pharmacy. And, meanwhile, neither the pharmacist nor her employee forgot to apologize for the delay in serving those of us who were waiting. I was so touched to see them walk out arm in arm. Slowly. When I got home and told my partner about it, we both burst into tears. There are so many good people in the world.

I'm giving one star because I can't give less. I placed an online order, items were missing, I contacted them, and I still haven't received a response, a replacement, or a refund—just thousands of advertising emails flooding my inbox every day. This pharmacy is a disgrace.

I went yesterday (the day of the blackout) around 3:45 PM with a physical prescription for an antibiotic I had just been given after having to see the doctor urgently for an infection that made it almost impossible for me to walk. The service was terrible. They told me they were "without power" (something we all obviously knew by that time of day) and that they couldn't give me anything (so I don't understand why they were even open). I went to this pharmacy precisely because it's a "manual" pharmacy (and doesn't rely on robots), but they didn't even try to check what medication I needed. I couldn't get to the counter to explain, and when I tried, they replied that they "couldn't even see how much the medication cost." I left and went to another pharmacy where they were incredibly helpful, gave me the medication, took the prescription, scanned the barcode, and wrote down my name and phone number in a notebook (where, by the way, they had a list of other people in the same situation) so I could come back later to settle the bill and pay the €2. With this experience, I've been able to clearly see which pharmacies have genuine compassion and a genuine desire to help a sick person, and which ones are only interested in making money.

I had a very unpleasant experience at this pharmacy during the morning shift. The person who served me, a dark-haired woman with curly hair, was incredibly unfriendly and argumentative from the very beginning. I tried to ask a simple question, but her tone and manner of responding were rude and unprofessional. I believe that working in a pharmacy requires kindness and empathy, as customers usually come seeking help or solutions to health problems. However, this person made my visit uncomfortable and disappointing. I do not recommend this place and hope they improve their customer service to prevent similar experiences in the future.

My sister-in-law worked there until she retired. They've changed owners two or three times already. I lost my pills and can't find them. I went to see if they would give them to me—they're pills I've been taking for 20 years—and they told me they didn't have them, to come back around 12:30. At 12:30, my husband went to get them, and they told him they wouldn't sell them without a prescription. We could have sorted things out another way, but first they tell you yes, and then you get there and they tell you no. My husband asked her why they didn't warn us beforehand, and she replied that they were very busy. I just called, and they answered both of my calls in seconds, but they were quick to warn us in advance that they wouldn't sell us the pills without a prescription. They're awful. This pharmacy is not recommended at all. The fact that they don't have the 75 mg retard is a disgrace.

Typical friendly neighbourhood pharmacy.

I really like this pharmacy. They provide friendly yet professional service. Whenever they don't have something in stock, they order it and let you know right away so you can pick it up. Everyone there is very kind.

Always very kind and attentive, both the girls and the gentleman. They give you information, make recommendations, and provide excellent service. I always leave happy 😃

Lack of professionalism and a poor image. I was served by a girl with nails so long they looked like they were for a costume party, with the obvious lack of hygiene. A terrible way to undermine a healthcare facility. The worst part is that she didn't seem to know anything. They could at least install a medication dispenser so we wouldn't have to deal with people who contribute nothing.

Tips for Visiting a Pharmacy in Spain

Understanding the local protocols and etiquette can save you time and ensure you get exactly what you need during your visit to a pharmacy in Vigo.

  • Know the Green Cross: Look for the illuminated green cross sign. It is the universal symbol for pharmacies in Spain. If the cross is lit, the pharmacy is currently open for business.
  • Ask for the "Farmacia de Guardia": If you need medication late at night or during a holiday, ask your hotel concierge or check the local newspaper or pharmacy door signs. These signs always list the nearest duty pharmacy (farmacia de guardia) that is open 24 hours.
  • Bring Identification for Prescriptions: If you are picking up a prescription, especially for controlled substances, always carry a valid passport or national ID. Spanish pharmacists are legally required to verify identity for certain medications.
  • Don’t Expect to Self-Serve: Unlike drugstores in the US or UK, most medications are kept behind the counter. You will need to speak directly with the pharmacist. Describe your symptoms clearly; they are trained to recommend the appropriate treatment.
  • Check for the "Farmacia" Label: Ensure you are entering a dedicated farmacia rather than a general health store or parafarmacia. While parafarmacias sell items like cosmetics and supplements, only licensed farmacias can sell actual medication.
  • Ask About Generic Brands: Medication in Spain is often sold under different brand names. If you cannot find a specific brand, ask the pharmacist for the genérico (generic equivalent), which is usually more affordable and just as effective.
  • Utilize Pharmacist Expertise: Spanish pharmacists are highly qualified and can often treat minor conditions like colds, allergies, or minor skin irritations without a doctor’s visit. Don’t hesitate to ask for advice; this can save you a trip to a medical clinic.

Knowing where to find a dependable pharmacy allows you to enjoy everything Vigo has to offer without worry. From the bustling shopping streets of Urzáiz to the charming alleys of the old town, professional help is never far away.

By keeping these tips in mind, you can navigate the local health landscape with confidence. Remember that Spanish pharmacists are your allies in maintaining your well-being, providing a vital service that keeps the city healthy and moving.
