10 Best Cafes in Ciutadella de Menorca

Ciutadella de Menorca may be famous for its Gothic old town, hidden harbor, and dramatic fiestas, but its café culture deserves just as much attention. Unlike the bustling beach resorts on the island’s east coast, the western side of Menorca offers a slower, more refined pace of life. Here, a simple coffee break often becomes a two-hour ritual of people-watching, reading, or simply soaking up the Mediterranean sun.

The city’s café scene reflects its dual identity as both a working local town and a sophisticated travel destination. You will find historic bakeries serving strong espresso alongside modern specialty roasters experimenting with single-origin beans. From the narrow, limestone-paved lanes of the old quarter to the breezy terraces overlooking the port, there is a distinct venue for every mood and time of day.

Because Ciutadella remains a year-round home for many Menorcans, its cafés are not just seasonal tourist traps. They are community hubs where artisans, fishermen, and families gather daily. This authenticity means you are likely to hear the melodic sounds of the Balearic dialect while enjoying your drink, adding a layer of cultural immersion that larger resorts often lack.

Whether you need a quiet corner for remote work, a sun-drenched plaza for a mid-morning pastry, or a shaded patio for an afternoon vermouth, this guide has you covered. The following selections prioritize quality of ingredients, consistency of service, and atmosphere. They range from heritage institutions that have stood for decades to newer spots that are pushing the city’s coffee culture forward.

We have considered practical details such as location, opening hours, and accessibility on foot. Since the historic center is largely pedestrianized, almost all of these spots are easy to reach without a car. However, some of the best local gems sit just outside the main tourist flow, offering a more peaceful experience.

To help you navigate the city like a local, this curated list focuses on places that offer exceptional value and genuine hospitality. You will find that many of these cafés also double as excellent breakfast spots, as Menorcans take their morning fuel seriously. Expect to see ensaimadas, freshly squeezed orange juice, and artisan breads featuring prominently on the menus.

Below, you will find the ten best cafés in Ciutadella de Menorca, chosen for their distinct character and reliability. Each entry offers something unique, ensuring that whether you have one day or one week in the city, you will drink well and feel connected to the local rhythm.

Fantastic cake and coffee. Quick friendly service and a spot in the shade of the Basilica. Recommend the cinnamon bun and iced vanilla coffee.
Jon Place★★★★★
Perfect place to stop off for a smoothie and snack. Very friendly staff and delicious food.. Had the acai bowl with strawberry and banana smoothie , very nice!
Michelle Kok★★★★★
A super nice coffee shop with really delicious coffee and pastries. The staff are very friendly and explain everything. Plus, they are located in an incredibly beautiful spot. Thank you! Highly recommended.
Sofia★★☆☆☆
We took different things, the empanadas were okey.. i didn’t like the spinach ones, they were too much spinach and with no specific taste. The Con carne were good. On the sweet side, the banana bread was okey, the tartas were definitely not tasty… tasted a bit industrial for some reason .. The best best sweet was the Pistachio cheesecake, it was really tasty, I recommend it. Coffee was good, but matcha was a big big miss. Definitely not quality. Another big miss is there is no tables to sit and eat… i don’t understand why 🤷‍♀️ Service lady was nice though! But overall, I don’t understand the very high ratings…
Seunghan Yeum★★★★★
They have ice americano, acai which is gluten free breakfast or brunch option. Lots of warm small meals for the quick and light meal. Cozy atmosphere and kind staffs. Located in front of old church and square makes mood better. I had focaccia and tortilla, they warmed it up for me. Nice and fresh.

We had a really nice time here on our last night in Ciutadella. The owner was really passionate about the local products and told us a bit about the history behind them in spanish. There's also a nice variety on the menu and good music 👌. Gracias otra vez 🙂
Lydia Lynch★★★★★
We visited a couple of times for drinks (wine/gin was 👌🏼) and then, having looked at the menu, had to return for dinner 😍 Perfect amount of choice, and the food was absolutely delicious. The interior of the bar is thoughtfully designed and really comfortable, and the owner and staff were so super friendly and helpful. Everything was perfect. We have been visiting Menorca for a really long time and look forward to many more visits to Curda to sample more of the menu 🙌🏼🍷🧀
Andrea Lopez★★★★★
I spent a full week in Menorca for my holiday and I had to come to Curda more than once. The food here is phenomenal, the service is incredible, it’s always packed bc it’s that good, the owner Nico is so inviting and personable. The huevos rotos, calamari, zamburiñas, even the sangria… is the best of the best in all the island. I 100% recommend dining here for lunch or dinner while visiting Cuitadella, it’ll be one of your best meals of your entire stay. Gracias Nico and team, you guys are incredible!!!
Jordyn Spencer★★★★★
Amazing atmosphere & great service! Loved the Spanish Omelette, octopus and olives to start!
joseph o'brien★★★★★
Excellent cafe and bar with a great menu and wide selection of drinks. Coming here as a family was great as there is something for all. I recommend their decaf cafe con leche and iced latte. Sitting inside is good too as they have cool air con! Friendly locals and welcoming staff. 100% place to go.

Luca★★★★★
By far the best coffee on Menorca and how could it not be when they use coffee from Hidden, ThreeMarks and Nomad? We came here 4 times at least. The location is great and they have 4 chairs ioutside to enjoy the views although the coffee is really to take away rather than drink on site. They sell all kinds of coffee-related items like Yeti cups.
Alexis Lechevalier★★★★★
A really lovely experience at this coffee shop tucked away in a little alley next to Ciutadella’s main square. The owner is very friendly and clearly knows his stuff. Every day, they serve a different single-origin speciality coffee, as well as homemade cakes and pastries (banana bread, cookies, brownies, etc.) The coffees are excellent and the service is quick ☕️ You can even buy coffee-themed clothing and accessories 👕
Markus D★★★★★
A true specialty coffee shop with superior quality and a nice rotating selection of different coffees. I had a fermented one from Nicaragua that was amazing. Also loved it that they carry my favorite Kombucha brand from Spain, LOV Ferments.
Anna Miroshnychenko★★★★★
Finally found good coffee place in Menorca, indeed the best! Had a great flat white, good vibe and extremely friendly and talented barista. Would highly recommend it to true coffee lovers 🫶🏼
Laura DOcon★★★★★
Really thoughtful, friendly, and fun staff! The coffee was excellent, and the café has such a warm, inviting atmosphere. I loved making Better Coffee part of my morning routine—grabbing a delicious flat white before heading out to explore the island. I also picked up a cute T-shirt and some coffee beans for my husband. They have a great selection, and the team is happy to help you choose the perfect one based on your taste. Highly recommend stopping by! THIS IS THE PLACE!

Great place for Spanish omelette, drink, coffee and sandwiches. Food was good and the service was quick. Great location and lovely interior. Sitting outside and inside, as well as back garden. Spanish omelette with vegetables was amazing! Spanish potato omelette has a bit too much egg and not enough potato for my liking but still was good.
Tereza Šafaříková★★★★★
Saved us on a few occasions when everywhere else was closed for siesta. Great sandwiches and drinks!
Jeremie Bernard★★★★★
Everything an institution should be. Super efficient service with smiles and speed. Small menu with traditional sandwiches on white or black bread, made with local fresh ingredients, and inexpensive. Try fig and cheese! Great coffee too.

Truly an amazing spot for breakfast and coffee! Great coffee and the sobrassada sandwiches are delicious. The service is quick and very friendly

Xabier Granja Ibarreche★★★★★
I highly recommend this coffee place for breakfast while you vacation in Menorca! Excellent coffee, and the matcha latte I ordered was also really good. We ordered a couple sandwiches and the yogurt with granola and fruit for our gluten-allergic friend, everyone was fantastic. I did not expect this coffee shop to be this good, and it's not expensive either, quite fairly priced! We liked it so much we came here twice in the same week. Try it!
Di★★★★★
The best brunch place in Menorca ❤️ Manuel was super welcoming and friendly, found us a table for 6 people and made our experience great. Both the food and the coffee were really delicious - we ended up coming here twice during our holiday. Would definitely recommend. (they also have great matcha!)
Susan Lohse★★★★★
A very pleasant experience, the staff were very friendly and helpful. The coffee was one of the best I've had in Menorca. We had coffee with oatmilk, the result was a very creamy coffee without losing the taste of the coffee. The atmosphere was very chilled.

The most incredible breakfast I’ve ever had. The produce was so fresh and flavourful. Coffee was also amazing. Beautiful indoor and outdoor dining. Service was great. Highly recommend. Looking forward too returning

The service was excellent; the waiters were very friendly and helpful. We’re French, and the croissant was delicious 😁 The coffee is speciality coffee and also excellent, with some lovely latte art

The cutest little spot in Ciutadella owned by two sweet people! I spent an hour reading my book here and loads of people coming in & out. You can tell its a hotspot. One of the best Iced Americanos in Menorca!

loved everything about it!!! Super nice staff, very happy and vibrant ambiente and good Menu 🌟🌟🌟

Lovely little place for breakfast/lunch. Great coffee, delicious matcha and tasty, fresh sandwiches, focaccia and pastries. All of that accompanied by beautiful interior with lots of cute things- if only we had bigger bag! Friendly, helpful and welcoming staff with excellent English. Vegetarian and vegan options available! What’s not to like? You need to visit Bubu’s corner!

A fantastic, high-quality coffee bar and such an unexpected find during a brief visit. Coming from London, great coffee is part of my daily routine and this place truly delivers. Excellent coffee and a lovely coconut water! Wishing you both the very best with the business.

We stopped here mainly because they had a highchair and we wanted somewhere our son could run around and let off steam. We were highly impressed with the food. We had the stuffed aubigine and squid in honey - both delicious. Drinks were great too. Perfect for relaxing informal tapas or a quick drink. Good value for money.
rixaries★☆☆☆☆
Please don’t go there. The food is terrible. Everything is from frozen pre-bought food. My aunt got sick form alcachofas and was throwing up all night. My buttered fish I could tell was frozen, croquetas also. The prices for this are absurd. Only the waiter was really kind. Not recommend.
gissel B★★☆☆☆
Hey, I just wanted to say the food I ordered was not at all what I expected, I asked the waiter if the fish was fresh he said yes when I took the first bite, it’s extremely noticeable it’s frozen fish. You’re charging €15 for frozen food? ,that’s really frustrating. The quality and taste weren’t even close to what I expected. I don’t usually complain, but this really wasn’t worth the money. I hope something can be done about this
Ian Knights★★★★☆
We stopped by here recently for drinks and tapas. We sat outside on the shaded terrace and ordered a small glass of Mahou beer, a lemon ice tea, some croquettes and a plate of patatas bravas. Service was friendly and efficient. The camarero graciously tolerated our attempts at some Spanish and we concluded our visit with a couple of cortados. All for just over €22. By the way, later that afternoon I needed the loos and came back here to use theirs. No problem. That was nice!
Bob & Kim Dusselleeuw★★★★★
We had a good time at "Es Pou" the server's were very friendly and advised us what was best on the menu after we asked and they did great. Made us feel very welcome and we didn't get rushed when it got busy. The pomado was great ♡

We came here and had a delicious brunch in the sun! I ordered the pancakes with Nutella and fruit and they did not disappoint! The iced coffee was really yummy and they also had some tasty homemade lemonades. My partner got the scrambled eggs which he really enjoyed. Really nice location and the staff were so lovely and smiley. Definitely would come back again!
Monika Cloutier★★★★★
What an amazing and quaint cafe. Food was delicious and fresh. Worth a stop.
Marctopus★★★☆☆
We came for breakfast (almost a brunch), so I can not assess the full lunch experience, but I believe that my major drawbacks about rhis place will persist: slow sercice and food looks much better than how it tastes. The spot is nice, in front of the flea market, so foe some the ambient can be considered very nice. The menu is massive: breakfast specialities, then brunch combos and finally full set of lunch options. Food presentation is very nice and detailed, which increases expectations about the taste, but unfortunately these did not match, e.g. the Mood had imprissive looks yet avocado was tasteless and mixed with some citric that ruin the full experience. Anyway, not saying was bad, just far below expected. Service, was helping either. It was a bit messy and definitely slow. We were the first one sitting at the table and yet it took ages to get served and others came first (dispite ordering similar dishes). We both ordered the chicken salad, but asked for it to be grilled instead of fried. It ended up being the best salad either of us has had in a long time. The dressing was perfect, and the flavors match perfectly. I wanted to lick the bowl, but I refrained from looking THAT much like a stupid American. 🙂 Plus, they have vermut on tap! Fabulous experience.
Fabrice★★★★★
After a long night out, my friend and I were looking for a place where we could grab a bite and recover. Found Shelby in Ciutadella, that offered everything we could ask for. I went for the burger with bacon eggs and lots of sauce. It was AMAZING! They also have amazing juices.

Great water-front spot for drinks & dinner. They don’t rush you and you get a great view of sunset. Some dishes are great, others are okay. Sangria was good! Service is great
Matthew Tarling★★★★★
Fabulous coffee and croissants, right on the waterfront. Large beers are similarly great, and all sensibly priced for the location.
Peter A★★★★★
We escaped inside on a very hot day to cool down in the air conditioning, and it was a great decision. We ordered a plate of fried squid, which was cooked perfectly . The beer was ice cold, just what we needed. The interior was well kept, and the waitress was very pleasant and welcoming. A refreshing break from the heat with great service.
joseph o'brien★★★★☆
A good location by the marina. Service is quick and friendly with no persuasion needed to come and visit. The only one that aims to sell tapas. Generous portion - dont need many dishes!
Santi Talo★★★☆☆
The place is OK, seating outside is quite nice, service is excellent specially the gallego one, the food is normal, the mussels were not very taste, the skids OK, the beer Graham Pearce was always very good but they have only the pilsen, the grilled razors at 19 euros very expensive. Desserts also good

The food is good with fresh ingredients, the service is super. The owner is active and kind . The most important for us is it’s clean with reasonable prices

Love visiting here when we are in Ciutadella. The owner is so friendly and provides great service. Food and drinks are very good as are the prices. Nice local Spanish bar/cafe that is well worth a visit if only to soak up the atmosphere when the locals are there
Henri Bliudzius★★★★☆
We got our bocadillos made in Cafe Viena for our day in Macarelleta beach. The sandwiches were great, the vibes of the place are immaculate and I must say the ambiance is very Viennese. I wish the owner/server asked us which ham we wanted when we asked for that and cheese as he just grabbed the bread and went to the kitchen to prep it with english ham rather than the iberic one that we preferred and we didn’t have the guts to stop him. Otherwise all super!
Debbie Newcombe★★★★★
Great , busy atmosphere. Full of locals. Right next to the market. Authentic Menorcan experience. Tasty bacon and cheese baguette. Very reasonable price. Muchas gracias! Muy bien.

How to Choose the Right Café in Ciutadella

Choosing the right café in Ciutadella depends largely on what you want from your visit. The city offers distinct micro-neighborhoods, each with a different energy. The old town is ideal for history lovers who want to sip coffee while surrounded by centuries-old stone architecture, whereas the port area is better suited for those who want a view of the water and passing boats. To get the most out of your experience, consider the following practical tips before you set out.

  1. Time Your Visit with Local Hours. Menorcans tend to eat breakfast late, often around 9:30 or 10:00 AM. If you want a lively, authentic atmosphere, go at this time. If you prefer a quiet, peaceful coffee, arrive before 9:00 AM when the city is just waking up.

  2. Look for Seasonal Produce. The best cafés in Ciutadella adapt their menus to the seasons. In winter, you might find warm pastries and hearty breads, while summer brings fresh fruit, cold-pressed juices, and lighter fare. Asking what is fresh that day is a great way to ensure quality.

  3. Don’t Skip the Savory Options. While Menorca is famous for its sweet pastries, the savory snacks are equally impressive. Many cafés serve local Mahón cheese, sobrasada, and freshly baked coca flatbreads. Pairing a local savory bite with your coffee gives you a true taste of the island.

  4. Embrace the Terrace Culture. Sitting outside is part of the experience, but not all terraces are equal. Some are on busy pedestrian streets with constant foot traffic, while others are hidden in quiet plazas. Walk a few steps off the main tourist routes to find a shaded terrace where you can linger without feeling rushed.

  5. Check for Specialty Coffee. If you are particular about your espresso or milk texture, look for cafés that advertise specialty beans or roast their own coffee. While traditional Spanish torrefacto coffee is common, a growing number of Ciutadella establishments are embracing modern barista techniques and lighter roasts.

Ciutadella de Menorca rewards those who wander without a strict itinerary. The best café discoveries often happen by accident when you turn down an unmarked alley or follow the sound of a coffee grinder. Use this guide as a starting point, but leave room in your schedule to follow your senses. Whether you end up at a century-old bakery or a minimalist specialty bar, the city’s café culture is designed to be savored slowly, never rushed.
