Staying overnight inside the medieval walls of Ávila transforms a simple visit into an immersive historical experience. As dusk falls and the day-trippers depart, the granite streets empty, leaving an atmosphere of quiet authenticity. You are not just looking at a UNESCO World Heritage site; you are living inside it for the night.
The old town is compact and walkable, but the quality of accommodation varies significantly. Some properties occupy restored palaces with centuries of history, while others offer modern comfort hidden behind ancient stone facades. Choosing the right base is essential for enjoying the city’s unique nocturnal ambiance and legendary local cuisine.
This guide focuses exclusively on properties located within the defensive perimeter. By staying inside the walls, you gain the advantage of stepping out your door directly into the plazas and alleyways without worrying about parking or taxis. It is the most convenient and atmospheric way to experience the city.
We have evaluated these hotels based on location, historical character, guest comfort, and service quality. Whether you are seeking a romantic parador experience, a family-friendly stay, or a budget-conscious room with a view, the options below represent the best the old city has to offer. Each selection offers a distinct perspective on Ávila’s heritage.
To help you make the right choice, we have considered the practical needs of travelers. Accessibility, air conditioning for the hot Castilian summers, and the quality of breakfast are all factored into our recommendations. You want a stay that is memorable for the right reasons, not one that leaves you wishing you had booked elsewhere.
Understanding the layout of the city is key. The closer you are to the Cathedral or the Plaza del Mercado Chico, the easier your logistics will be. However, some of the most charming options are tucked away on quiet side streets, offering a peaceful retreat after a day of sightseeing.
Below, you will find a curated list of the best places to stay within the ramparts. We have focused on properties that enhance the overall experience of visiting this remarkable Castilian city, ensuring your night is as memorable as the views from the walls themselves.

Everything I had cause to use was very good. Did not eat though, I prefer the local restaurants. There is a fantastic garden here. Where in late evening the birds singing and bats flying around are brilliant

This hotel has a great location just within the city walls, and it is adjacent to an access point for the top of the wall. The breakfast buffet was excellent and the building is historic and impressive. What stands out was the thoughtfulness and caring of the staff, who helped at every turn.

Parador de Ávila marked our first experience with the Paradores de España state-run hotels, and it was absolutely amazing - setting an exceptional standard that would shape our future travel choices. The room was luxuriously spacious with a very affordable price that offered outstanding value, making historic luxury accessible without premium pricing.
We loved the view from our room overlooking the charming interior courtyard, and appreciated how close the location was to the iconic walls of Avila. This proximity allowed easy exploration of the UNESCO World Heritage site while providing a peaceful retreat within historic surroundings.
The hotel kindly welcomed us with thoughtful touches including complimentary bottles of water and the delicious Pastel de Membrillo - similar to jam tea cookies - that introduced us to traditional local flavors immediately upon arrival. These small gestures demonstrated genuine hospitality.
An interesting charming detail was the traditional physical key with a very heavy keychain weight, adding authentic character that connected guests to the historic nature of these converted heritage properties. This old-world touch enhanced rather than hindered the experience.
We loved the Parador de Ávila so much that we decided to join the Amigos de Paradores membership based solely on this first experience. This immediate commitment speaks volumes about the quality, value, and memorable experience that convinced us to explore the entire Paradores network.
Parador de Ávila successfully combines historic architecture, modern comfort, thoughtful hospitality, and exceptional value to create an unforgettable introduction to Spain's prestigious Parador system.
David Marshall★★★★☆
Pretty much all good here, the location is central, the hotel was nice, as are most of the Paradores we have stayed at.
My only gripe relates to parking. The web site says parking is available, well it is, but very limited and you really have to reserve a space in advance.
When we arrived at around 15:30hrs we were told the hotel was full and we would have to park on the street. The narrow alleyways are chaotic, occasionally a space becomes available, but you have to move quickly before it's taken. Some spaces are free some have to be paid for. The machines are unsurprisingly all in Spannish and we weren't able to decipher them. To add to the stress the Police are renowned for towing away illegal parkers.
The web site should be clearer and the hotel could have been much more helpful in explaining on street options for parking and the payment system.
Fred Cookerly★★★★☆
A lot of renovation and construction going on while we were there. Needs an upgrade when compared to other Paradores. The staff, however, were excellent. Location is great. We still enjoyed our stay. Recommend a stay after upgrades are finished.

The location of Las Leyendas is par excellence! It’s right by the heart of Old Town. In the summer, you can sit at tables under the medieval city wall at the Leyendas restaurant, and in the winter, when the restaurant is closed, it’s a 2 minute walk to the wall. The walk at night by the wall is truly magical.
We reserved a lovely garden room and it was refreshing and tranquil. (Though if you come on the weekends you can hear your neighbors talk, sneeze and laugh in the adjoining rooms).
We reserved breakfast on a Sunday morning (breakfast is only on weekends) Traditional tortilla is served ( sort of a crustless egg and potatoe quiche) along with fruit, breakfast butter cakes, beverages to include juice, hot chocolate (Cola Cao), coffee, tea and water. Filling and satisfying.
Loved that the hotel sends you a map and list of sites with opening and closing times before checking in. It’s very thoughtful! The staff is friendly and helpful and speak English. We had to switch rooms and the desk staff was accommodating and understanding.
My one small complaint is mold in the shower and no soap at the bathroom sink, but you can lean in the shower and get bath gel to wash your hands
Overall the room and bed were comfortable and we slept well. I not only recommend the hotel but will return to stay in the future.

Leyendas Hotel is comfortable, clean and handy to sights, restaurants and transport. Katia, one of the receptionists, was very helpful, pointing out the walks and not-to-be-missed sights and experiences of Ávila. She speaks three languages fluently. The food at La Bruja restaurant on the top floor was delicious! If I am in Ávila again, I would want to stay here.

Cute hotel, well located - the staff was friendly and helpful. The breakfast wasn’t amazing, but well suited for the 5€. The HUGE downside was four creepy guys hanging in the lobby at night. The first night we arrived one guy was looking around and another was hanging in front of the rooms. We thought he was security, which he was not! Unfortunately, they were harassing me and my girlfriend by offering to sleep in our room. After we declined they followed us and knocked on our door a few times. We panicked and called the hotel security and they handled the situation instantly. Until now we don’t know what happened or who the guys were, just that the next morning they were not around. Would not recommend for solo female travelers!
Qaphqa Smith★★★★★
My high expectations were exceeded. The room I stayed in exhibited expensive taste and was deliciously clean. Bottled toiletries in a lovely bathroom enhanced the feeling of value for money for the well-located hotel. Nonetheless what stands out is the warmness of the staff, who offered me a variety of helpful advice and printed information, and answered the multiple questions I had.
If you like elegant restaurants with impeccable service, on-site restaurant La Bruja is worth a visit.

Excellent hotel, great location and the rooms were modern and very clean. The staff were friendly and we stayed with our 3 dogs who were welcomed there. Would definitely stay there again, lovely stop.

We slept comfortably in a very nice room with a timbered ceiling. You can hear people in the corridor but one could say that of most hotels. Our room didn't have a view which is probably a blessing as there was a bans playing on the nearby square, not that we heard it. It's an old building without a lift, fortunately we were on the first floor. Location wise it was perfect with parking just outside the city walls, a few minutes away.
john du Heaume★★★★★
Friendly stop over on our way south, good breakfast, motorcycle parking literally outside the door, a challenge to find in the one way and pedestrianised streets, we should have ignored the no entry and sneaked down C. Bracamonte, everyone else did.
Vernon Dickson★★★★☆
Excellent hotel in the center of the old town. Great location, though parking was a bit of a challenge. Rooms are nice, though old and not air conditioned (it was the middle of summer). Hotel was fairly noisy, but I think it was just the group that was there when we were. Service was excellent. Recommended.
Peter★★★★★
We loved it. Charming building, great continental style breakfast, helpfull staff. The hotel is in a historic building, so no A/C but that is the price you pay for leaving buildings as original as possible and not walking around a city cluttered with A/C units on every facade. No WiFi, but who needs it now we have good 4g coverage? Our room was lovely, nicely decorated, 4 poster bed and a sitting area.
Will MacIntosh★★★★★
4.5/5. Absolute best value w/ a fantastic location in the city center; greatly exceeded our expectations.
Other notes- they let us check in early to our room. Hotel has a lovely and inviting cafe & bar area to relax in w/ or w/out kids. Hotel & room was nicely decorated (but certainly old! One of the latches on the windows in our room didn't close & the small balcony door was a bit tough to open; not a problem though. Just part of the charm!). Very comfy bed (but on the smaller side) for the standard double room. The provided bathroom soap was a little too chemical-smelling for our liking.
Overall, would definitely recommend and stay here again!

The location is fantastic. All attractions are walkable. The room is very spacious. There is a nice restaurant in the hotel. Last but not least, breakfast was a very nice surprise, all fresh and delicious. We really recommend it.

Only thing above 2 stars in this establishment is the location, awesome indeed. The room was plain an ugly, the bed uncomfortable and the shower flooded after 3 min shower. To be fair, price was also good Never to be back, that’s for sure.
Vittorio Sangiorgio★★★☆☆
We slept there one night.
The rooms deserve 2 stars out of five. It was raining, and our window was leaking with water dripping on a bench. The ceiling is too low for someone 1m80 tall, and the soundproofing of the room was non-existent as we were woken up by the cleaning staff.
The staff was nice, but the hotel remains unattended in the night - something very unusual for a 4-star hotel.
What saved the final score was the breakfast, which we both enjoyed, and the very central location.
Although fairly priced for what you get, we would not go back again.
Kasey Garrison★★★☆☆
Cool hotel with a nice restaurant but sooo loud after hours that it ruined it for us. The staff seemed very young so maybe it was the place to be for their mates as two hours after the restaurant closed, people were still very loud in the courtyard beneath our windows. Not great for a restful sleep flying out early like us but good if you plan to stay out late somehow in this quiet city!
Ismoyo Hardi★★★★☆
Too bad the bathroom in each room has no door. Not everyone is comfortable enough to stay in one room and at the same time there are no bathroom door if you take a bath. But aside from that, the location of this hotel was perfect and the breakfast also very nice. Perharps this hotel breakfast was our most delicious breakfast in our entire trip in Spain last February.

Room was bigger than I thought it would be for a hostel, frigerator in room, private bathroom, staff were friendly and helpful and location was perfect inside the walls of old town.
The Compass Guy★★★★★
Located inside Avila’s medieval walls, which immediately earns it historical bonus points and slightly more respect for your suitcase. You are right in the old town, steps away from restaurants, cafés, and the walls themselves, with everything walkable and atmospheric once the day trippers thin out.
The front desk staff are friendly and attentive, genuinely helpful when present, though it is not open 24/7, so a little planning ahead for check in is wise. Communication is clear and professional, no confusion, no unnecessary drama. A practical bonus, the DIA supermarket is about 50 meters away, which is far more useful than it sounds once you realize medieval towns were not designed with convenience in mind.
The design is clean and modern, a deliberate contrast to the centuries old stone outside. Rooms are compact but thoughtfully laid out, clean, and clearly well maintained. Beds are comfortable, bathrooms are efficient, and nothing feels neglected or improvised.
This is a no nonsense stay. No grand lobby, no dramatic storytelling, no fake rustic décor trying to match the walls. Just a solid, well run base in a city that has been standing since Roman times, roughly 1st century BC, and still looks like it could outlast most of us.
Verdict. Practical, comfortable, and perfectly placed. Sleeping inside the walls turns Avila from a sightseeing stop into an actual experience.
Ricardo Albuquerque★★★★★
Really good and clean rooms, good wifi, cute decoration. Stayed here one night and had no major complaints. In the heart of Avila, inside the walls. Only small complaint was the mattress quality, not the best.
Eric Lenghan (Foto)★★★☆☆
Great location. Good service. Clean room. Competitive price. No AC or fans for 40 degrees temperatures. We sweat like pigs for two nights and barely slept. Only window was 30 inches by 20. They don’t give you any information about the city, but only a discount at a local restaurant *Cine* (that hasn’t got the best reviews). Parking was also messy as you cannot access the hotel and the staff just told us “park in the blue or green zones” without saying anything else. You basically just have to figure it out by yourself. So that you know, the best spot is in the green zone outside the walls on the western side of town (see image - green circle- although there is a no entrance sign, you can use that street) Price is very reasonable at around 1€ a day. The blue zones will have you checking you’re watch to pay every two hours using their app. There’s a 2 hours limit. We used it and it was kind of a pain. Your other option are 20€/day parking lots.
Chrissie★★★★☆
The location is great! Just in the city centre. The hotel is new and the decoration nice and modern. The rooms are simple but clean an cozy and the staff friendly. The wi-fi signal is quite good for a hotel.
On the other hand there is no air conditioning so it can get pretty hot in the room. Also the rooms with a street view are very noisy. There are bars downstairs and even with the windows close you can hear everything. And taking into account that there's no a/c it can be hard to sleep.

Old world class in a 16th century palace. What is there not to love about this place, besides the fabulous location? We stayed in the more affordable rooms on the first floor as a treat after our pilgrimage. Fantastic staff at check-in, as we had hoped to just drop off our backpacks and explore the city. But the room was ready! Everything perfect from the comfortable twin beds, cleanliness, mini fridge (complimentary mini bottles of water), bidet (a plus for Italians), and a big flatscreen with streaming services.
For those who like to sleep in total darkness, the shutters are electronically controlled, and of course, there is A/C that is not noisy. The only thing I didn't notice in the room is a menu for room service, so I cannot comment on the availability.
Jonathan S. Ng★★★★★
Hotel Palacio de Los Velada boasts an amazing location within the walled fortress at Avila, offering a truly special setting steeped in historical charm. We loved how quaint and quiet the hotel was, creating a peaceful retreat that felt worlds away from modern bustle while remaining conveniently central.
The rooms are all renovated and very spacious, successfully blending historical architecture with contemporary comfort. The bathroom is so amazingly modern, featuring updated fixtures and finishes that provide luxury amenities while respecting the building's heritage character.
The food proved great as well, exceeding typical hotel restaurant expectations. We particularly enjoyed the tempura-ed vegetables, which were light and crispy, and the chuletón de Avila was absolutely perfect - showcasing the region's famous beef with expert preparation that honored this premium local ingredient.
The breakfast buffet offered a decent spread that covered all bases. They featured all the traditional Spanish breakfast staples including a quality charcuterie board and authentic Spanish omelettes (tortilla), providing guests with genuine local flavors to start their day.
Hotel Palacio de Los Velada successfully combines historic ambiance with modern comfort, quality dining, and prime location within Avila's iconic walls.

A charming hotel right in the heart of Ávila. Its central location is ideal for exploring the city, yet it remains very quiet, with no street noise at all. That said, you may hear some noise if neighboring guests are loud.
The rooms are spacious and comfortable, and the housekeeping staff are especially kind and professional. The price is also very reasonable, offering great value for money.
One small downside is that the taps are quite old, making it a bit tricky to adjust the water temperature—particularly in the shower. Overall, a very pleasant stay with a lot of character.

Perfect location in Ávila. It cannot be better. Cathedral, city wall, restaurants are all within 3 minutes walk. Enjoy your stay during easter processions in Semana Santa. You will see everything. It’s actually a historical builing right next to Avila cathedral. Special thanks to Juan who kindly greeted us in the middle of the night as we arrived late due to an EV car charging issue. Lovely place, very quiet despite being in town center.
Guido Coenders★★★★☆
Decent 4 star hotel in an absolutely beautiful city.
The location is excellent, with the central town car park only 3 minutes away, so, if you don’t have too much luggage, you don’t have to drive your car into the small streets.
The hotel itself is OK, service is good enough, yet not very engaged and breakfast is decent.
The rooms themselves are a little dated and the walls are thin, but the rates are also not that high - so, value for money is quite reasonable.
We did one night here and saw the town next morning, and for purpose it was definitely good.

Very nice and clean hotel. It's close by, about a 15-minute walk, to the parking lot next to the local police station. I think the value for money is excellent, and the staff is attentive. If I had to find fault with anything, it would be that there's no reception in the hotel building itself, although they are available by phone; in any case, for those who are apprehensive, this might be a drawback, although it's offset by the overall sense of security in the city.

Upon arriving at 1:00 PM, we were informed by phone that they had no staff on site, it wasn't possible to leave our luggage, and there was no complimentary bathroom. They sent us a link to check in online and receive the room access code, asking us to wait until 3:00 PM to check in.
We returned to the hostel at 3:00 PM and had to call again to get the code. After a considerable wait, they finally gave us instructions over the phone on how to access the room. To our surprise, when we entered with the provided code, the bathroom was uncleaned and the beds were unmade, clearly used. While we continued communicating with the management company, they asked us to send photos of the room's condition via WhatsApp. They offered no alternative but to wait. This seemed unacceptable, given that we had been there since 1:00 PM and were about to check in. They also hadn't provided us with a place to leave our luggage, nor did they have complimentary bathrooms. The complaint to Booking received the following response:
"Dear Oscar, Thank you so much for being a valued Genius traveler and for your continued support of our services. We have received your message and would like to respond. We regret to inform you that your booking 3948221052074064721 is provided by a partner company and is therefore not eligible for a post-stay review. We sincerely apologize for the lack of this feature. We understand this is not an ideal situation for you and we appreciate your understanding and support in this matter. Please let us know if you have any further questions, comments, or concerns. Have a good day and take care."
In short, no one took responsibility until I raised a huge fuss on the phone, an hour and fifteen minutes after check-in time. They finally changed our room.
Booking also didn't send an email asking me to review the property.
ROBERTO PINO MARTINEZ★☆☆☆☆
It's not a hostel. It's more like tourist accommodation where nobody works. If you have a problem, nobody can help you because there's no staff. A vacation rental company bought the place and hasn't updated the website. The website says you can check in at 1:30 PM, but when we arrived, we had to check in online because nobody was there. It turns out their new policy is that they don't let you in until 3:30 PM, leaving you with two children and your suitcases on the stairs, all without informing the guests. Our TV didn't have a remote, and obviously nobody fixed it because nobody was there, even though we reported it at 4:00 PM. Otherwise, the location is very good, the price is reasonable, and the room is adequate. They should advertise themselves as tourist accommodation, not a hostel.
Natalia Casas★★★★★
Our stay was very pleasant. The hostel is very well located, making it easy to explore the area on foot. The room was clean, comfortable, and had everything we needed for a good night's sleep. It's definitely an excellent choice.

Terrible place to eat. Like don’t go. I’m front of the trash, food ok if you starve and 50 cents on any plate if you eat on the terrace. So if you order a tapa of 1 euro the price is 1.50 (+50%) if you order a tapa of 10 euro you ll pay 10.50 (+5%) … to someone who studied economy this doesn’t make sense.
Anyway. I took bravas (one of the worst ever), salsicion y jamon.. they were ok. The tapas given with the food were good.
The service was ok. The waiter tried his best to be nice!!

Tips for Choosing Your Hotel Inside the Walls
Choosing the right hotel in Ávila’s old town requires a slightly different approach than booking in a modern city. The historic architecture imposes certain limitations and unique charms. The following practical tips will help you avoid common pitfalls and ensure your stay is comfortable, convenient, and fully aligned with your travel style.
1. Clarify Vehicle Access Before You Arrive
Driving inside the walls is heavily restricted and often reserved for residents or hotel-authorized vehicles. Contact your hotel in advance to ask about their specific parking arrangements. Many have agreements with public parking lots just outside the gates, and knowing which gate to use will save you significant stress and time on arrival.
2. Check for Elevators and Accessibility
Many historic buildings have been converted into hotels, but not all have elevators due to preservation laws. If you have heavy luggage or mobility concerns, explicitly request a room on a lower floor or verify that a lift is available. Never assume a historic property offers modern accessibility features.
3. Understand the Noise Factor
Staying in the heart of the old town means you are close to the action, which can also mean street noise, especially on weekends. If you are a light sleeper, request a room that faces an interior courtyard or a quiet side street rather than the main plazas. Alternatively, pack earplugs to ensure a restful night.
4. Book Dinner Reservations Early
The restaurants inside the walls are popular with both tourists and locals, and the best ones fill up quickly, particularly on Friday and Saturday nights. Once you have secured your hotel, do not wait until you arrive to book your dinner table. Your hotel concierge can often assist with securing a reservation at a top local spot.
5. Look for Climate Control
