Burgos is a city that rewards a healthy appetite. As a historic stop on the Camino de Santiago and the proud capital of Castile and León’s gastronomy, this northern Spanish city takes its food very seriously.
From wood-fired ovens that have been burning for centuries to contemporary bistros reimagining local produce, the dining scene here is remarkably diverse. The local cuisine is defined by its hearty nature, born from cold winters and a tradition of resourceful farming.
Central to the experience is the region’s world-famous suckling lamb, roasted slowly in clay pots to achieve a texture that requires no knife. Alongside this, you will find the iconic black pudding known as Morcilla de Burgos, a spiced rice and blood sausage that is a staple of any tapas crawl.
But the culinary landscape extends far beyond meat and stews. The proximity to the Ribera del Duero wine region means exceptional red wines flow freely, while the dairy farms of the north provide the basis for the famous Queso de Burgos, a fresh, soft cheese that contrasts beautifully with the heavier stews.
Navigating this city of narrow cobblestone streets and grand plazas can be overwhelming for a first-time visitor. The historic center, clustered around the magnificent Gothic Cathedral, is dense with dining options, ranging from standing-room-only pincho bars to elegant, linen-clad dining rooms.
To help you separate the historic institutions from the tourist traps, we have curated a guide based on local reputation, ingredient quality, and consistency. Whether you are looking for a quick bite between museums or a long, leisurely Sunday lunch, this list has you covered.
Below, you will find our definitive selection of the best places to eat right now in Burgos.

We come here every time we visit Burgos, probably every year for the last 5 years and we will continue going in the future.
The food is very unique and good, the service is great and always the same two servers working that have been very kind to us.

The best restaurant in Burgos. The people are incredibly friendly, the portions are more than enough, the price is amazing and the food is incredible!! You might want to reserve in advance
Maggie Driggs★★★★★
fun experience here! me and my poor college friends booked a reservation here not knowing it was $54 and like a 10 course meal, but we stayed anyways cuz we didn’t wanna waste the food and lemme tell u. Best accidental expensive meal of my life. This place was DELICIOUS. We at first were so mad at my friend for not checking the price but by the end we didn’t care cuz we loved it all.
The employees were so kind about us not knowing and let us try some special olive oil and with each plate they described what the dish was and I tried so many new wonderful things. Like I’d pay so much more for the quality of this food. I’d go here again even! It was a positive experience me and my friends will all always remember and we adored the food here! We all went into a food coma after, it was a lot of food (in a good way)

Definitely a must when in Burgos. Very forward concept restaurant and team. Beautiful food and service. Loved the different asian flavors as an Asian American tourist. Clean flavors and just wonderful energy and chef! Will be back. Wear comfortable pants, come hungry, and check out the shop next door for asian delicacies. Worth the Price as well.

La Fábrica is an excellent restaurant in Burgos for those looking for a more refined dining experience. The restaurant is located on the second floor and is beautifully designed, with a very elegant atmosphere. The staff is friendly, professional, and fully uniformed, which adds to the overall experience.
The restaurant has a Michelin mention, and it is easy to understand why. The service is efficient, the presentation is excellent, and the food is both delicious and creative. They often take ingredients or dishes you may already know and reinvent them with different sauces, flavors, and presentations in a very positive and interesting way.
If you are visiting Burgos, La Fábrica is definitely worth a visit, especially if you enjoy upscale cuisine. I highly recommend making a reservation, particularly on weekends, because the restaurant gets very busy.

I got the meat with fries.
Nothing was wrong ,5 stars 😄
Parents here and we agree. We had delicious appetizers, mains, and dessert. It was a wonderful meal with family. We appreciated that our daughter's meal showed up quickly, before the appetizers. 😋

The food is excellent and well priced. I highly recommend the foie gras oxtail ravioli. The service is good and helpful. Only two small things that could make this better - the decor is quite cold and if you're sitting by the window you feel separate/closed off. Also restaurants shouldn't charge for bread that they provide and wasn't asked for
George Scribner★★★★☆
The food was very good although not distinctive. I’m not sure I will remember the dishes in a few weeks. The setting was perfect. But, the service model is flawed. My waiter was spread too thin, didn’t take my desert order, and never checked back to see if I was satisfied with my meal or his recommendations. That said, the experience overall was nice. I would go again.

Wonderful menu. Very tasty and harmonious. Special mention for the desserts !! Very good value as well and would totally come back if I didn’t live so far away (Canada!). Thank you for this gastronomica experience. Best food we have had in Spain yet.
Amanda Wiggert★★★★★
Absolutely wonderful! Beautiful room tucked away in a central, locals' quarter of Burgos. Every course of their set menu (which is for everyone- no à la carte) was exceptional. Quite a find!
Tea Macecevic★★★★★
One of the best restaurants i have been! Food was flawlees from the appetizer until the dessert. Amount of food is more than enought, really high quallity and from local area! I took Menu Paseo Gastronomico, presentation and flavours were amazing! Deffinetly recomending this place!

A culinary gem you can't miss.
A fantastic experience! We ate wonderfully from start to finish. You can really taste the love and care behind each dish; everything we tried was impeccably prepared, with quality ingredients and meticulous presentation.
The dining room is small and cozy, but it's so well laid out and designed that it doesn't feel cramped at all. On the contrary, it's incredibly comfortable and has a very pleasant, intimate atmosphere.
Add to this the excellent service: the staff is super attentive, friendly, and professional, making you feel right at home from the moment you walk in the door.
Without a doubt, a highly recommended place that I plan to return to very soon. A 10 out of 10!

Typical atmosphere and tasty pintchos.
They serve quite a variety, among others, of stuffed red peppers (boletus, bacalao, Morzilla de Burgos...). The Morzilla one was my favourite allong with the croquetas de jamon. You might need to wait a bit during the rush hour but both the food and the atmosphere deserve it!
Rae Zyon★★★★★
Authentic tapas bar, the tortilla was flavourful, soft and fluffy, the fried cod was fried upon order, batter is crispy and not too thick. Very friendly service. A nice warm and cozy place to have a meal especially during the winter.
Maria Del Amo★★★★★
Came across this restaurant that at first looked like a bar/tapas place but the restaurant is on the second floor. The restaurant is very small and if you are in a large group (6+), you better make reservations. The food was excellent specially the morcillas. Service at first was tricky but one of the bartenders was extremely accommodating for the 6 of us and gave us a table that was reserved but the people didn’t show up. Our waitress was amazing—giving us recommendations and being very attentive even during the busy dinner time.
James DeVore★★★★★
This is a great place. Lots of smiles and laughter among the staff and regulars coming in. Delicious tapas! I feel like I really scored with this place. It was like the happiness of the staff was infused in the food.
David Znidersic★★★★★
Great tapas/ pinchos bar in the center of Burgos. Many locals as well as tourists stop here for a tapa de morcilla or seta. You can also reserva a table for proper dinner. Good Price/ quality ratio. Very traditional institution. Must See when in Burgos.

We loved this place💕 we were early, 4:00 - 5:00pm so maybe not the height of the busy time but the service was fast and friendly! The Pinchos were really good with lots to choose from◡̈ We enjoyed a Gin tonic and several pinchos! Probably the best we’ve had so far in Spain!

What a great place to eat Tapas 4 Tapas and two beers 16euro it was busy but we found two high stools great place to see the food all lovely presentation if you in Burgos go there you will not be disappointed. God Bless to them

What a great experience. Food was to die for. We've had a lot of great meals on the Camino but the lamb chops that we had here were out of this world. Highly recommend this restaurant! Great waiters. Great food.
Stacey Wittig★★★★★
I like this spot to join the Spainards for their main meal of the day: lunch. My Camino friend and I enjoyed Menu del Dia: 3 courses with wine for E22.
Marco De Rossi★★★★★
A lot of people and great food.
Uou have to options, ground floor is for eqting tapas and drinking, upper floor is for sitting down to lunch and dinner.
For lunch, we had the daily menu, with 10 options for first and 10 options for second dish, it also includd bread. Drink and dessert for a fixed price, very good value.
Try to arrive as early as you can, it fills up quickly, and be patient, it can get very chaotic

Santi Talo★★☆☆☆
Was unpleasant surprised of the restaurant, the lechazo was OK but too oily, we suffered the night due to this, so better for lunch than dinner as this is quite strong food, my recommendation would be to be downstairs tapas not in the restaurant, the starters were quite tasty, specially the mushroom 🍄🟫 with truffle and eggs, the sardines were also very tasty, we do not took dessert as we were full. Referring beer selection i was expecting more variety while they had the good rioja bottle for 24 euros. Waiter brought twice the drinks and food from other tables. Maybe it is my taste as I am not quite fan of lechazo but the overall was 50% spend bad night due to lechazo. One throwing up all of it, while the other with stomachache, the other 2 loved the lamb. So it is more tasty 😋 per person.
Pablo R★★☆☆☆
5.20 for a bottle of water. Unacceptable.
It’s my 2*. Sorry, but I can’t stand this. The food was superb, lechazo & chuletillas were amazing. The atmosphere was fantastic however I must say the service wasn’t the best. There is no sommelier service (when you pay 5.20 for a bottle of water).
The rest of the lunch was pretty decent, with a good selection of local dishes. Sopa castellana is a reinterpretation of the classic Castilian soup and the taste is great.
Overall, you’re better off going to Asador Azofra just minutes away.
Agne Ser★★★★★
An excellent place. Very good food. I particularly liked morcilla de Burgos - my first try of the dish and really enjoyed it. And the ball shaped dessert is not a gimmick - it's truly amazing. The service was very professional and proper. Recommend!
Art Mitchell★★★★★
The food was tasty and well flavored. The wine list was extensive but poorly organized. This made finding and selecting our wine challenging.
The only glitch was not bringing both main courses at the same. Had to wait five minutes with my warm oxtail cooling for my wife's fish dish to arrive.
Richard Brett★★★★★
Well if you only eat lamb once in a lifetime do it here. I had the suckling lamb and it was the best lamb I have ever had in my life.
The surroundings were good the staff were very helpful and suggested some fantastic wine.
Compared to UK prices this was so cheap for the quality of the food and wine.

Delicious food that can be taken in small portions…impressive list of wines by glass…for a very good price!
We enjoyed the busy but nice place!
Gracias🙏
Michelle★★★☆☆
Delicious but super overpriced for Northern Spain, especially for the portion size (about 14 euros for 3 tapas and a coke). Ultimately the portions worked out for me as a solo traveler, but I still recognized the prices were kinda outrageous. Still, it’s a nice, very chicly designed place, and the food itself is good. So go for the ambience or if you don’t have much of an appetite. But don’t come here to get the best bang for your buck. I tried the tempura cod, octopus tacos, and black spaghetti with aioli. The octopus was prob my fav, albeit a tad too saucey; the cod wasn’t very memorable.

Updated 2022. Had much of the same and it's still excellent flavor wise. The presentation of food has slightly gone down though. But not a deal breaker for me. All about flavor and good service.
2021 Review. Enjoyed the food very much. It's rich and flavorful. They have small dish so for a single traveler, I get to taste different food. Service was quick and friendly although it gets busy.
Highly recommended!
Had ox meatball, black spaghetti with alioli, pork cheeks in chimichurri sause, vegetable tempura, cod tempura, and torrijas for dessert.
J. Ascensão★★★★★
Amazing place for cold beer and interesting tapas! They are also dog friendly (they literally placed ice cubes in the dog water bowl!!). Totally recommend them 🥰
Mikhaël Bélanger★★★★★
Really great spot for tapas at a very good price. We had enough to feed 3 hungry bellies, plus a bit of wine, for 45€!
Most tapas were very good, while a few were just ok. Still overall very pleased and would go again!
Try the fried cod, tacos del pollo and pulpo as well as the black spaghetti with aioli.

We had a great experience in La Sastrería. Every course was inventive and tasty and the wine we had was really good too. What I also really appreciated was the ventilation in the restaurant, with CO2 leveling out at about 850ppm when it became busier.

The food was very, very good. We paid about 30 euros for an experience for which we would pay 50+ euros back home in Belgium.
Sergio. Casado★★★★★
Friends who had thoroughly enjoyed their tasting menu recommended this restaurant to us, so we decided to come and have lunch with the family. The experience couldn't have been better.
The food is spectacular. They work with familiar ingredients and flavors, but elevate them to a higher level through modern and meticulous preparations. Each dish surprises with its technique, presentation, and balance, making every bite a truly unique experience. You can taste the care and effort behind each creation.
We also want to highlight the excellent service from the entire front-of-house team. The waiters were very friendly, professional, and attentive at all times, making us feel very comfortable throughout the meal. The service was quick and perfectly coordinated.
In short, a perfect experience that exceeded our expectations. A highly recommended restaurant for those who enjoy creative and sophisticated cuisine without losing sight of the essence of quality ingredients. We will definitely be back.
JI PR★★★★★
A good option if you want something beyond a simple set menu and are willing to spend a bit more. The service was excellent. The restaurant is pleasant, although I personally didn't like the lack of tablecloths. We enjoyed all the dishes on the weekend menu. The service was consistently fast-paced.

Best cordero lechal ever!! Highly recommend this place for traditional high quality typical food from Burgos!
HT Z★★★☆☆
The staff are friendly and the location is good. You can walk along the river and through a very nice park to get to the town center. The hotel room itself is a bit more like a 2 or 2.5 stars as it is a bit old and outdated. The entire room also smelled like cleaning products, suggest to air out the room first or spray it with some air refresher.
Mary Hogan★★★★★
We were driving to Bilbao to catch the ferry and wanted to break the journey. Hotel was lovely, staff so friendly, the area is full of history and lovely to walk around. We ate in the restaurant and the steaks were mouth watering lying delicious as was the bread! Definitely would recommend it.
David Manuell★★★★★
We liked this little hotel. I only gave 3 stars for location as it is a good walk into town, although that suited us. We had been on the motorbike for a few hours so wanted the exercise. It is a nice walk into town along part of the Camino, and along a linear path. Loads of parking spaces. Our room overlooked our parking space.
N B★★★★☆
Nicely appointed room with comfortable beds. It’s situated above a large restaurant. I asked a room with a view but instead I was given attic room with a light window in the ceiling.

Great place, had dinner in the restaurant one evening and tapas one day. Loved the food and atmosphere, it felt really authentic. After a week in Northern Spain, this has been the best place for tapas.
Shay Begun★★★★☆
We went four people for a quick launch but the place was already full with reservations socwe have to find a spot on our own on the bar.
We had some tapas and raciones amd the food was pretty good. The cecina rolls filled eith Foie were amazing amd by far ma favorites.
Service was a bit off - the confused some of our order and we had to battle for their attention at the bat even for getting the bill. I assume it's different when you get an actual table though.
Overall a nice spot with some unique tapas and decent pricing.
Value for money 7/10.
Julian Macias★★★★★
Nice spot for pintxos. It gets really crowded around 9pm. Angus cecina is a must here.
Anna Blackman★★★★★
We were lucky to find La Favorita around the time we got hungry for breakfast. They served a variety of freshly made sandwiches with a combination of eggs and other ingredients such as chorizo, jamón ibérico, atún y más. The food was delicious, the coffee and service as well. We saw them putting out a delicious array of tapas for the midday crowd. We will def come back and highly recommend.
J Wo★★★★☆
The food is overrated, the steak sandwich is overcooked and very chewy. There were only two staff and they weren’t really pleasant or friendly, especially to outsiders. The wine is also over priced. I do not think I will go there again in the future.

I arrived from Alicante to Burgos on foot, as a pilgrim, and I made this nearly 800 km as a vegan, finding it quite difficult, since in Spain - in my experience - people are not very familiar with vegan nutrition, and in fact, they mostly eat animals seasoned with animal products. This made me a little sad and made me hungry on the road, so I greeted it with bursting enthusiasm when I saw a vegan menu on the menu in this restaurant. However, the real surprise came only after that, because what was put on the table in front of me was incredible: wonderful flavors, perfect harmony with the ingredients and the quantity was excellent, no exaggeration. I am very grateful to the place, the chefs and the staff for this experience. If another vegan menu were added to the menu, of the same quality, I would gladly come again, even from further away, out of respect. Thank you very much, guys!

Thank you to Niama for her fantastic and friendly service, we hope to see you again. Tasty pinchos, especially the morcilla and a great selection of Vermouth.

Delicious food, delightful service, unique tapas, but the best mention goes out to Niama who guided us and suggested some fresh and tasty bites.

I can understand some of the comments here about service but being Irish and somewhat assertive I had no problem and the tapas are very good. I would return.
Dolores Caspe★★★★☆
A really good place to enjoy some tapas! The mini croquetas were absolutely amazing! The morcilla was really good too. I ordered the vegetarian menu and it was ok, the bread in the mini burger was a little hard and dry and the yakisoba had a little too much oil, but anyway, I recommend the place! The service was friendly too 🙂

A place with a great variety of pinchos, tapas, and larger portions. Stuffed eggs with cured beef, peppers stuffed with cured beef, anchovies, pig's snout, and pig's ear. The waitresses were very friendly and efficient; especially Natalia, who had a bit of a sense of humor and was, above all, professional.
Edit: Today I was there with my nieces, and they served the patatas bravas sauce on the side in case they wanted it spicy or preferred just potatoes—a nice touch! 😀 High tables inside and tables on the terrace. Clean restrooms.
Penélope Santa-María Estébanez★★★★★
Highly recommended. Natalia treats you like you've known her forever and makes you feel right at home.
Then we move on to the food. A super varied tapas menu, with fresh, high-quality products at a great price. It's a shame they're not also open Saturday afternoons and Sundays for vermouth… but that's just pure selfishness 🤣🤣

. . Repetiré

I had blood pudding and milk lamb. Very traditional dishes in somewhat refined dining environment. Somewhat because service was not quiet as elegant as expected in the best restaurants, for a tavern it would rate as excellent. Both dishes were prepared very well, lamb was very soft. Food was a bit boring, healthy vegetables, no vivid tastes or textures, no indulgences. A tavern would have embellishments, tipical decorations, bustle that goes well with traditional food, here the dining room is beautiful but colder and quiet, better suited for fine dining. It felt like a joyless meal, taking sustenance but not much more.

To be honest didn't reach my expectations. The food nothing special to be Michelin the don't even have a sommelier. Fish under cook in same part, paella salty, foie gras was ok.
We definitely don't look to come back

Wow! Had a splendid dinner with excellent service. All 4 dishes were excellent, most of them you can get in half portions as well (including fresh fish) good wines by the glass.

Great atmosphere, I liked the location and the food. We ordered 2 starters and 2 first dishes to share, I recommend to order the scallops and the artichokes. The pulpo and the croquetas were also good, but less creative dishes than the first two. Service is attentive and prepared, good suggestion for the wine selection.

The best restaurant in Burgos hands down! Carmen is a family owned restaurant: Oscar, the brother, is the amazing Chief, Monica, the sister, is the maitre d’ who coordinates the service with precision and efficiency while always smiling and last but not least, the lovely Alba, Oscar’s wife, organizes the restaurant and its PR. Carmen’s cuisine is traditional spanish with a modern twist. It’s beautifully presented and absolutely delicious. This is a must try if you are in the area! Try the cecina cocida, the grilled calamari or their amazing aged steak. Everything is delicious in the menu and they have information on allergies, which is helpful.

Absolutely loved this place! Came for lunch on a Tuesday without a reservation. It was packed, but they managed to seat us at the bar. We had the lunch menu (three courses for only 12 euro!) and everything we tried was delicious. The service was attentive and very friendly - the chef even came out to see if we had enjoyed the meal. Cannot speak highly enough of this place!

Very good experience even under covid19 circumstances. Everything was clean and very professional staff. Products are super fresh and high quality fish and meat. One of the best bravas in Burgos. High prices well deserved, worth for the amount. The menu is huge and full of options. Hope they will success in this city, they deserve it. Coffee is from Illy, very good temperature and texture. Desserts are premium and home made.
I really want to come back to taste more courses.

Essential Tips for Dining in Burgos
To truly eat like a local in Burgos, it helps to understand the rhythm of the day and the unspoken rules of the bar. The city operates on a schedule that may feel late to international visitors, but adapting to it will unlock the best flavors and atmospheres. From knowing what to order to understanding when to show up, a little preparation goes a long way in ensuring you don’t miss out on the city’s signature dishes.
- Embrace the "Pincho" Culture: In Burgos, lunch and dinner often begin as a standing affair. Don’t look for a table immediately; instead, push into a busy bar and order a small beer or wine. With every drink, you will almost always receive a complimentary small bite (a pincho). The quality of this free snack is often the barometer of the kitchen’s skill.
- Look for "Lechazo" not "Cordero": When ordering lamb, you must look for the word Lechazo. This refers specifically to milk-fed suckling lamb, which is much more tender and delicate than older lamb. It is usually cooked in a wood-fired oven (horno de leña) and should fall off the bone.
- Order Morcilla as a Starter: Morcilla de Burgos is unlike any other blood sausage. It is soft, almost spreadable, and heavily spiced with paprika and oregano. It is almost always served sliced and pan-fried or grilled. Ask for it as a ración (sharing plate) to start your meal.
- Respect the Spanish Schedule: Kitchens generally close between 4:00 PM and 8:00 PM. Lunch is served from 1:30 PM to 3:30 PM, and dinner rarely starts before 9:00 PM. If you eat at 6:00 PM, you will likely be limited to cold tapas or tourist-oriented restaurants.
- Venture Down Calle San Lorenzo: While the area directly around the cathedral is beautiful, the highest concentration of excellent, authentic tapas bars is found on Calle San Lorenzo and Calle Sombrerería. This is where locals go to "tapear" (go bar hopping), and the noise level and crowd density are usually a sign of quality.
The beauty of dining in Burgos lies in its lack of pretension. Even in the most famous establishments, the focus remains firmly on the plate and the company rather than elaborate presentation or gimmicks. You will find that waiters are often direct and efficient, a reflection of the Castilian character, but they are also deeply proud of their culinary heritage.
As you wander from a bustling bar serving sizzling mushrooms to a quiet dining room with the scent of roasting lamb, you will understand why this city is considered a pilgrimage site for food lovers. Take your time, order a glass of Ribera del Duero, and enjoy the slow, satisfying rhythm of a meal in Burgos.
