Finding a great steak in the South of France often means balancing French culinary finesse with the robust, comforting traditions of a classic grill. While Menton is widely celebrated for its sun-kissed citrus and proximity to the Italian border, the city also harbors a deep appreciation for high-quality beef. The proximity to Italy introduces a unique dynamic where French butcher cuts meet the influence of Northern Italian grilling traditions, creating a steakhouse scene that is distinct to the Côte d’Azur.
The dining culture in Menton leans heavily toward leisurely, multi-course experiences. When you sit down for a steak here, you are not just grabbing a quick bite; you are settling in for an evening of ambiance, whether that means a sea-view terrace or a rustic, wood-beamed dining room. The best establishments understand that the quality of the meat is only half the equation; the sauce, the wine list, and the atmosphere are equally critical to the experience.
For the discerning diner, Menton offers a range of options that go beyond the standard tourist traps. You can find everything from traditional French bistros serving perfectly seared entrecôte with peppercorn sauce to upscale Italian grills offering tagliata di manzo drizzled with local olive oil. The common thread among the top venues is a commitment to sourcing superior cuts, often from France’s Charolais or Limousin breeds, or from Italy’s prized Fassona cattle.
Knowing where to go requires understanding the geography of the town. The historic old town offers charming, intimate settings where the grill smoke mingles with the scent of the Mediterranean. Down by the port and the beachfront promenades, you will find more modern establishments that pair your ribeye with panoramic views of the Bay of Garavan. Each neighborhood offers a slightly different flavor of hospitality and price point.
Whether you prefer your filet served with a rich Béarnaise or a simple grilled cut finished with fleur de sel, Menton’s culinary landscape has you covered. The key is to look for places that respect the resting time of the meat and understand the importance of a proper sear. It is this dedication to technique that separates a mediocre meal from an unforgettable one.
Below, we have curated a list of the top destinations for meat lovers in the city. These venues have been selected for their consistency, quality of sourcing, and overall dining experience.

What a great place - little bus ride from Menton (but beautiful moonlit walk back along the promenade).
Small menu - but then you know its done right - wife had lamb rack with truffle pasta with pomegranite - she loved it!! I had the Angus entrecote cooked to perfection served on a warm plate (tres importante) with some great frites (maybe too many) and a local herb sauce - was brilliant.
You have to try the lemon tiramasu - just glorious and of course the standard cognac and double espresso.
The steak and lamb a little expensive but well worth the spoil.
Hugely friendly and efficient serveuse who topped the evening with a smile.

A lovely place to eat. Great food. Lovely atmosphere. Very reasonably priced. Hostess was warm, friendly and made sure everyone felt special. On her own. Went twice in the week there it was that good though booking recommended.

Great steaks and lemon pie with friendly staff. Even the chef came to our table to check if everything was fine!

The steak and the hamburger was really good, totally recommend to try this place .

What a great little place. We didn’t book but were fortunately early enough to get one of the few remaining tables. As the restaurant filled, there was a lovely buzz of people enjoying their evening. The service was excellent with everyone attended to by one person who remained friendly and attentive despite being on the go non stop. The food was delicious and great value. We’re hoping to squeeze another visit in during our stay but will definitely reserve a table first.

Oh my god, everything we ate was absolutely delicious! This is an excellent Argentine grill offering top-tier quality. Being a restaurant by the Michelin-starred Chef Mauro Colagreco, expectations were high, and they completely blew us away. Every single ingredient was of the highest quality, truly doing justice to authentic Argentine cuisine.
We ordered the Milanesa Napolitana served with mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, and a tomato salad—it was perfection. For dessert, we had the Dulce de Leche Flan. What a spectacular show! It made us feel right at home for a moment

amazing food, very on point, traditional Argentinian cuisine. chefs and staff were incredibly kind, makes the restaurant experience unforgettable!!! nice views and the chorizo was incredible, would recommend for a date night in menton!

We had an amazing dinner here! Nothing to complain about, the food was perfect and service was very friendly. A plus was the absolutely stunning sunset view over Menton.

Very nice staff. Unfortunately they forgot about us and we had to remind them about dessert. When it finally arrived we didn’t get the limoncello also ordered. One picana was great the other one very chewy and tasteless. Not fantastic all in all but the kids were happy which is the most important.
Corinne Walter★★★★☆
I wanted to love it but the service was not great. We had to find our waiter most of the time. She forgot my mother in law’s wine. Our steak was cooked medium rare but it was chewy and did not seem quality. Unfortunately, it’s not what I expected. We love Argentinian food, love Mirazur and live in the neighborhood. I guess I thought this would have been a better experience.

I visited this All's Stars expecting great things, but it was just okay. The burger looked good, but the patty lacked seasoning and tasted quite dry. The fries were decent, but nothing to write home about.
On the bright side, the service was fast and the staff was friendly. It’s a fine place for a quick, casual bite, but don't expect to be blown away. Average food for an average price.
The best part about this place is definitely the location. Sitting outside offers an absolutely breathtaking view of Menton’s gorgeous coastline and turquoise waters.

We had reserved for eight, came as ten and it wasn’t a problem at all they’ve been really kind to add a table to ours. We ate and drank and everything was very good. I personally recommend the cheeseburger and the PinkStar cocktail, they were very good.
It was a football game night and the ambiance was really good, we’ve been able to see the game at a few angles with the multiple TVs around. The staff was adorable, I truly recommend 🙏🏻

We visited twice in the day. The waitress was friendly and quick. On the second visit my wife ordered a Tequila Sunrise. It was terrible. She didn’t drink it and asked the bar man ( very politely to change it). He was rude and a bit aggressive and said No. My good lady asked me not to get involved so I took a picture of the drink to leave a review. The barman came to over and took our drinks ( I had nearly finished my pint 😂) and said “ no pay- out”. We left. Such a shame he had no clue how to deal with people and customers. Great potential let down by the middle aged dark haired barman. See photo of the cocktail. 🍹
Debra Thompson★☆☆☆☆
Awful Cocktails, extremely rude bar tender. Ordered a tequila sunrise, took one sip and couldn’t drink anymore, sweet, frothy and just tasted weird and was a weird pinky purple colour. Tried to explain it wasn’t right and the bartender became very aggressive and rude, telling me I didn’t know what I was talking about. €10 for this drink, didn’t even have a cherry or orange garnish. I asked to swap and he said yes but you still pay. I sat back down and waited for my hubby to finish his IPA, he then stormed out grabbed both drinks and shouted at us to leave.

We came here for lunch. I really enjoyed the gnocchi with truffle and floating island desert. Both are delicious. I advise to book ahead especially for the Meton Lemon Festival in February.

We tried Entree II last week on a holiday in Menton. We were both pleasantly impressed. The food was top quality and the presentation was really good. The lady serving us was very nice and helpful. My partner became very quickly envious of my dish choice (even though his was great too) so we decided to go again another day. Unfortunately we didn't book and couldn't get in. So obviously a very well liked, popular place and I am not surprised.
I recommend it.

Stopped here along the waterfront in Menton for a bite and a drink. Prices in all these heavily touristed areas tend to be somewhat inflated but thankfully this restaurant made up for it with decent portion sizes and yummy food. The fries were particularly tasty, and they were generous with them! There was some confusion in that I thought I was getting a chicken burger rather than a beef burger, but it was no trouble as the burger was great. The only downside was that the outside seating area was mixed smoking and non smoking, with two full tables of four smokers on either side of us--but this was more bad luck on our part than any fault of the restaurant. Overall, a good spot for a meal on the waterfront in Menton.

A great restaurant with friendly & helpful staff & great food and wine overlooking the Marina - we visited twice & enjoyed both meals - croque monsieur, cheeseburger & deserts & steak & fries & tiramisu - good beer & wine

We were here by mistake, but we will definitely come back! Was a win! The lunch menu is quite fair on the price and the food. Definitely fresh… we end up satisfied…. the view and environment of this place is amazing I mean was a good deal.
Just be aware that there’s a lot of flies around since is an open area but not the restaurants fault.

A fantastic spot for classic French cuisine. The duck magret (duck breast) in sauce was simply magnificent—an absolute standout. The starters and the egg dishes were decent, but the duck really stole the show. They also have a very solid wine list featuring an excellent selection of Natural Wines.
The service was wonderful, and our waiter was an absolute super guy who made the whole experience even better. Everything was just great. Incredibly delicious and easily the best restaurant I visited in Menton. I highly recommend it!
Alina Moleshtianu★★★★☆
Overall, a pleasant experience . The service was excellent—our waiter was absolutely wonderful, friendly, and attentive. As for the food, the duck breast was really good and well-cooked, while the egg starter was simple and classic. The only minor downside was the sauce and the french fries, which weren't quite to our taste. Still a very nice dinner overall, largely thanks to the great staff!

This place was amazing. I was there before 12'o clock but they allowed us to take a seat first during waiting and take a look at the menu first. Foie gras was so soft and delicate that I didn't want to have them even with baguette. They recommended beautiful duck breast and wine also, perfectly well paired. It was my last meal in France this time and I don't have any regret about my choice🌸
Claire Wee★★★★★
Amazing French food here, duck was the best we’ve ever had. Ingredients are sourced locally, with a unique modern twist on the dishes. I recommend the cocktail with Jacoulot. Service was friendly 🙂

We came expecting a sea view after a friend requested one, only to realise the restaurant doesn’t actually overlook the sea! Instead of brushing it off, the waiters completely ran with the joke and kept the light-hearted humour going all evening, which we absolutely loved.
The food was amazing, and the wine recommendations were spot on too. The service genuinely made the whole experience memorable.
Would 100% come back, even just for the waiters!
Merci!!

Such a cute and cozy little place right in an alley. The food was absolutely amazing! So interesting and unique. We ordered the Diablo tartare, the ceviche and the crying tiger. The crying tiger was my absolute favorite. It’s served with noodles and everything tasted great.

These two owner chefs are Goddesses of the kitchen. Everything we ate there was more than delicious. The Tom Yum soup, the gyozas, the salads, the chocolate mousse and profiteroles were all 10/10. And the service too.

Haoran Zhang★☆☆☆☆
totally not recommend this restaurant. The service was terrible, they were ripping off tourists, the food was mediocre, and the ambiance was just average. During our 15-day trip to the South of France, we ate at 20 restaurants, and this was the most expensive and worst experience we had. We didn't want to give a bad review; every business is struggling. But given how rude they were, we had to tell the truth. We chose this restaurant because other restaurants were crowded at lunchtime, while this one was less packed, and the Google rating seemed acceptable. Upon entering, we were the only customers seated indoors. Our group of seven was crammed into three small tables, which was extremely cramped. We asked for an extra table, but were refused. After we sat down, the waiter (pictured in photo 2) was very impatient, constantly rushing us and pressuring us to order. We wanted salad, but it wasn't on the menu. He offered to make us two small vegan mixed salads, but when we paid the bill, we found that each salad cost €23. At other restaurants, it would have cost less than €10. We ordered a cappuccino, but the bill listed it as a beef carpaccio. When we disputed the bill, the staff immediately admitted it was a mistake. However, his expression and attitude clearly indicated he was lying, trying to get away with it since we were tourists. At the end, they even gave us their shop's QR code, asking us to leave a 5-star review. We don't want to give any bad reviews, but after eating at 20 restaurants, this one clearly had a problematic attitude, and our experience was terrible. We don't recommend eating at this restaurant.

The food was some of the best tasting on our 2 week trip through Italy and France. The spaghetti with seafood is one of the bedt I have ever had. It was creamy and flavorful. My wife loved her veal dish. Even the prosecco was grest.

L’Orangerie was a wonderful surprise in Menton. From the moment we arrived, we received a warm, professional, and genuinely attentive welcome.
Every dish fully lived up to our expectations, not only because of the quality and freshness of the ingredients, but especially because of the chef’s precision and excellent execution. The combination of Mediterranean cuisine with subtle Japanese influences brings personality and balance to each dish while always allowing the ingredients to shine.
After our experience, we completely understand the recognition from the Michelin Guide. The quality of the ingredients, precise cooking, flavors, and attention to detail can truly be appreciated in every dish.
Excellent cuisine, outstanding service, and a very pleasant atmosphere. Without a doubt, one of the best dining options in Menton and a restaurant we would definitely return to.
Anonymous eat★★★★☆
We had the €39 set menu for dinner. The food was not exceptional, but the quality was good given the price.
For starters, the red pepper mousse was flavorful, but a little too firm and not quite cold enough for my liking. Given the weather these days, I think it would have been more refreshing if it had been served cooler. The gazpacho was also well-balanced and fresh.
For the main courses, we ordered the salmon tataki. We won’t compare it with the salmon tataki we’ve had in Japan, but the salmon itself was good quality, with a nice balance of fatty richness and firm texture. The portion was generous, and the salmon was seared perfectly, with the interior remaining raw. The rice underneath, however, was not as chewy and fluffy as we would have liked, and the sauce was a little bland. The acidity of the pickled vegetables was great for cutting through the richness of the salmon, although it could be a little overpowering.
The pork was also cooked perfectly, and the fattier parts of the cut complemented the texture nicely. The sauce and vegetables were reasonable, although nothing particularly memorable.
The parfait was a little disappointing. It was a good combination of seasonal fruits, but nonetheless felt like not much work had gone into the dessert. The chocolate terrine, on the other hand, was rich and silky.
We would also like to mention that only two pieces of bread are served with the meal at a time, with more provided upon request. We felt that the portion was a little insufficient and, to be honest, somewhat ungenerous.
Service was okay. The servers were generally polite and did what they needed to do, but nothing more. We passed by the restaurant another day towards the end of service and stopped to look at the menu. The server who had previously served us happened to be there, but did not respond when we said, “Have a good evening.” It gave us the impression that, as long as you are a client, they will do their job, but there is little warmth or attentiveness beyond that.
The atmosphere, however, was pleasant, with an occasional breeze that made the outdoor seating enjoyable. A nearby restaurant had live music playing, which added nicely to the experience. When making the reservation, we were given the option of sitting indoors, outdoors under the tent, or outdoors without the tent. We would recommend sitting outside when the weather is good, as it really complements the dining experience.

Was in Paris for some Parisian Pride and Lyon Bouchon before Nice, dropping by in Menton for a lunch and I must rate this is the best pairing we ever had throughout the journey, the flavour and taste turns out as one of the best experience, we had white asparagus and seafood sashimi as starter, Salmon Tataki for both my daughter while I had Tuna and wife having Veal Tenderloin to perfection. Dessert was an absolute completion tocthe course…

We absolutely loved everything!
A special mention goes to the red pepper mousse, the guinea fowl dish, and the peach dessert – they were simply outstanding.

Loved our lunch. I had Spaghetti alle vongole and my husband had Scallopini Marsala. We shared a caprese appetizer. Everything was delicious and service was impeccable.
Martina Savic★★☆☆☆
Unfortunately, our experience at this restaurant was very disappointing.
My friend and I ordered one large pasta to share along with a drink each. The waiter accepted our order without mentioning any issue. A few minutes later, a woman came out of the kitchen and aggressively insisted that we had to order two separate dishes. Since nobody seemed to speak English, communication was difficult and involved a lot of hand gestures rather than a clear explanation of their policy. If ordering only one dish was not allowed, the waiter should have informed us before accepting the order.
What made the situation even more uncomfortable was that members of the staff stood by our table and waited until we ordered another dish. We felt pressured rather than welcomed.
The food itself was okay, but nothing exceptional. Unfortunately, the unpleasant treatment from the staff overshadowed the entire meal, making it difficult to enjoy the food. Throughout our visit, we felt as though we were being looked down upon and that our presence was somehow an inconvenience.
Good service can make an average meal enjoyable, but poor service can ruin it completely. Sadly, that was the case here.

In a world full of pasta and pizza, it was very nice to stumble upon this restaurant in the old town of Menton. The food was excellent, the service was excellent and the place was excellent with a very good AC. It different from the main street establishments. Run by 2 brothers that are building the place from the ground. Give them a visit and their food a chance. I don't think you will regret it. Highly recomended.

Absolutely first class! There were three of us, and it was an incredible dining experience. The Korean tabletop BBQ concept is fantastic. For starters, we had the excellent homemade kimchi (Kimchi Maison) and pork gyozas. We also tried both signature broths – the mild Bouillon Soban (soy, garlic, and ginger) and the Bouillon Épicé with gochujang – and both were full of deep, rich flavors. For the main course, we grilled the Honey Sriracha Chicken, the classic Beef Bulgogi, and the shrimp. The meat was perfectly marinated, and grilling it ourselves added a great vibe to our evening. Highly recommend this place, we will definitely be coming back!

very cute location and atmosphere, the dishes were delicious and good quality! one thing that I would say is that the pasta was a bit cold while the zucchini one was boiling hot but otherwise everything was perfect❣️ also might be worth to make a reservation if you want to be sure to get in!

This little bistro tucked away in the old town was really, really nice. I went in the evening around 8:30pm and I waited for about 10 minutes for a table. The atmosphere is peaceful and charming and the food was delicious. The waitress spoke French, Italian and English. I will be coming back a few more times.

Pasta ravioli was delicious and the lamb skewers super. Ate here twice in the week it was that good. Will definitely return. Highly recommended. Patrice.
Essential Tips for Enjoying Steak in Menton
Navigating the culinary scene in a border town can be tricky, as menus often blend French and Italian terminology and dining customs. To ensure you get exactly the experience you are craving, it helps to understand the local nuances regarding cuts, preparation, and etiquette. Here is how to make the most of your steakhouse visit in Menton.
Know your cuts. In Menton, you will often see both French and Italian terms on the menu. A French "entrecôte" is a ribeye, while "filet" is the tenderloin. If you are in an Italian-influenced restaurant, "tagliata" means the steak is sliced and usually served over arugula, while "costata" refers to a bone-in cut. Don’t be shy to ask the server to describe the cut’s texture and fat content.
Embrace the local wine. While Bordeaux is the classic pairing for red meat, being this close to the Italian border means you have access to spectacular Piedmontese wines. A Barolo or Barbaresco pairs beautifully with a fatty ribeye, but if you want to keep it local, look for a robust red from the Provence or Rhône regions to complement the char.
Respect the local dining hours. Unlike major metropolitan cities, Menton adheres strictly to meal times. Lunch is generally served from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM, and dinner rarely starts before 7:30 PM. If you are hungry for a steak at 6:00 PM, you will likely find most kitchens closed. Plan your day around the Mediterranean schedule.
Don’t overlook the "Sauce au Poivre." While purists might argue that a great steak needs nothing but salt, French bistros in Menton often excel at sauces. The peppercorn sauce (sauce au poivre) and Béarnaise are usually made from scratch and can elevate a standard cut of beef. If you are dining in a French establishment, trying the sauce is part of the cultural experience.
Check for "Fassona" or "Charolais." The quality of the beef depends heavily on the breed. If you see "Fassona" on the menu, you are in for a treat; this Piedmontese beef is exceptionally lean yet tender. If you see "Charolais," you can expect a richer, more marbled flavor. Menus that specify the breed are usually more dedicated to quality sourcing.
Ask about the grill. The method of cooking matters. Many of the best restaurants in Menton use charcoal or wood-fired grills rather than flat-top griddles. This imparts a smoky flavor that cannot be replicated. If the restaurant advertises "grill au feu de bois" (wood-fired grill), it is almost always a sign of a superior steakhouse.
Menton provides a unique backdrop for a carnivorous feast, where the elegance of French dining meets the warmth of Italian hospitality. The sea air seems to sharpen the appetite, making a perfectly charred piece of beef taste even more satisfying. Whether you are sitting under the stars in the old town or watching the sunset over the harbor, the memory of a great steak here lingers long after the plate is cleared.
Taking the time to choose the right venue based on your preference for French or Italian style will define your evening. From the first slice into a perfectly rested cut to the last sip of a bold red wine, the steakhouses of Menton offer a sensory journey that rivals the city’s famous coastal views.
